Helena’s eyes widened, she’d never in her life seen a sight such as this. People were marching at a fast rhythm up the side of hill chanting some sort of battle chant between them. She turned towards Kand, who was already looking over the edge, his weapon at the ready. Helena’s hands began to shake as she reached for her rifle she’d put back in it’s holster. Her stomach had also decided to do a few flips causing her pale complexion to become paler, and leaving her feeling rather nauseous.

“Kand, What are we meant to do?” She called out to him, her head spinning.

Helena wasn’t the best on the battle field. She was more comfortable just being a medic but they wouldn’t let her in just on those grounds. She had to be ready to fight her corner in case she or another member was in danger. Her training didn’t really go to plan and she didn’t really listen. But with Kand there she didn’t have to. He seemed already ready to save her from anything that came in her way. Helena loved being the baby and only girl of the squad, she had a short fuse but she could be sheltered by the men on her squad.

The people marching up the hill didn’t seem to notice the mass amounts of people on top of their hill, and staking out their cave. Helena kicked the head of the dead man in frustration, causing blood to spill onto her boots.

“Ew! I just cleaned those!” She screeched.

“Shouldn’t have kicked it then should you?” Joamer laughed, armed and ready for the Barbarians that were ever so slowly reaching the hill top.

The head person which seemed most in charged seemed outraged as soon as he saw the cave had been raided. He seemed to have muttered something under his breath before calling a charge on his men. Wraith and the Mortar team were by far out numbered. The men were coming up the hill quick and fast as the Mortar team began to spin around, hoping to be able to wipe them out swiftly. Their huge size made them appear unstoppable by gunfire alone..

“Joamer, I’ll need some help over here!” Helena called out, firing as much as she could from her little pathetic E-11 blaster rifle.

“I’ll be there now Hel, Ananzi take over for me?”

Both Helena and Joamer edged their way closer to the hilltop edge, peering down at the barbarians. They both then counted down to three together.

“One...Two...Three!”

Half a second before he said three he opened fire.

Blasts from his DLT-20a hit the barbarian who appeared to be the leader, two more shots from Helena brought him down. As he fell two more took his place. Joamer noticed the rest of the squad take positions around the hilltop, on any other day their combined blaster fire would of made him proud.

At this moment, he doubted it would be enough.

By this time Kanderin had shouted a simple command "Form line of Battle." The squad was somewhat unfamiliar with the phrase, but old Academy days kicked in suddenly and they rushed to stand shoulder to shoulder. The combined firepower of Wraith Squad rained death upon the encroaching army.

But, they kept coming.

"Reconfigure for close range." Kand said over his shoulder, he did not bother looking away from what he fired at.

The terrified mortar team leader could not talk, only give a very small shake of his head.

"We ne..ed.." He said quietly, his voice broke so many times it was hard to tell what he said "Four mi..untes."

"What do you mean four minutes?" Joamer shouted. He flipped the power lever on his DLT-20a to full and fired, the bolt nearly took the barbarians head off, the body fell backwards taking two more men with it. Cursing to himself he exchanged the empty clip for a full one.

"Can't do that to many more times." He said as he brought the power lever back down to mid range. "Might kill one of them, but it also drains the clip. To add to our problems, I'm beginning to run low."

"If you can't see," Helena said, she swung the barrel of his E-11 around and fired on the closest barbarian "We do not have four minutes. Now decrease that time or I will tell Ananzi here he can eat you!"

The men looked at the newest Wraith for a brief second before resuming their work.

The seconds stretched on, the barbarians were over the halfway point by now. The squad had lost track of how many had fallen, but by some miracle none of the barbarians had fired a single shot. They kept firing at one target at a time and the bodies kept falling.

Suddenly the whole barbarian force had stopped, for a brief second the Wraiths had also stopped firing. Crossbow bolts suddenly rained down among the squad.

The sound of a scream was abruptly ended in a gurgling gasp.

"Take cover!" Half the squad shouted in unison. Dodging bolts Joamer and Anival lept behind a boulder. Peering around he noticed the rest of the squad take cover. He noticed one of the mortar team members was down, a crossbow bolt stuck out of his neck.

Surprisingly a sudden fury had engulfed the remaining mortar squad, instead of drawing blasters and laying waste to the barbarians, the only doubled their efforts to reconfigure the weapons.

"I don't think we have four minutes anymore." Anival said.

"I don't think we even have one." Joamer muttered quietly.

"Right." Ron said after a long silence.  "Everyone back to the break spot, I want Rogueboy and Grahim and any others who are good with snipers to lead our group.  From now on, we're going to have to place our trust in the fine marksmen in our squad."

Grahim saw that Ron, Jae, and RB was coming back to them.

"Who are we missing?" Ron said.  "Who isn't here?"

"When I came back to report to you, I left Havock to guard our position..." RB answered.

Ron started to run towards the tree where Havock was supposed to be guarding, the rest of the squad followed. The sound of blaster fire greeted the troops.

“Oh, bloody hell” Karash said “I hope she is unharmed, last time she wouldn’t admit that she was in pain.” When the squad came to the tree, Grahim saw that there were burn marks on the tree, the residue from blaster fire.

“Shut it Karash. Rogue, you and Grahim will find a good sniping spot and try to find where the bastards have taken Havock” Ron said.

“Okay Grahim, come on” Rogue said as he started to move.

“And remember to keep contact over the comlink” Ron said “We will run through the forest and follow your directions to the barbarians” Rogue and Grahim searched for high trees or high hills where they could get a good view. At last they found a tree that had grown up on a high hill so they got an excellent view over the forest, they could see the whole forest from this location.

“Wesa have found una good position” Grahim said over the comlink.

“Good look at west I think they came from there but remember they are in their own terrain, so they know where to hide and how to move without alerting any animals so you will have to be extra vigilant.” The comlink responded with what Grahim thought was Ron’s voice but it could be Karash’s voice for all Grahim knew and he didn’t care to find out.

“Theysa want usa to look west theysa think thatsa the barbarians isa on thatsa direction” Grahim said.

“Then let us start to look after barbarians then” Rogue said.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~
40 minutes later

“Mesa did see three barbarian. Una of themsa was carrying Hav” Grahim said.

“How do you know it is Hav?” RB asked.

“Mesa saw her face.” Grahim answered

“We have found Havock, she is one klick to northwest from your position right now.” RB said over the comlink.  “Are they moving on ground or in the trees and how fast?” Jae answered.  “The one that carries Hav is moving on the ground and there is two barbarians that are running in the… Wait they have stopped, they are in a village. It is about one and a half klick northwest from your current position. They have guards and they are using our weapons so watch out we will join you as soon as possible” Rogue said.

A thud, and Kanderin noticed something flicker past his vision and land somewhere behind him. Instinctively, he grabbed anyone he could reach and threw himself out of the way, waiting for the explosion to engulf them all. Helena, Joamer and Anival all shouted complaints and spluttered dirt before looking up at Kand for an explanation. He was preoccupied with what was thrown.

A head stared back at him. the sockets that used to hold the eyes now dripping blood. It was fresh, blood having spewn in a spiral over the area it was thrown. It was over his own clothes as well, but he had failed to notice until now. It made him want to throw his armor to the ground, but he knew doing so would simply make him a bigger target.

Target.

The bolts flew over the space his head had occupied a few seconds before, and he was immediately crawling back to safety. The world may of stopped for him while he was identifying the skull, but not for the Barbarians. They had taken the time to aim their weapons properly, to identify him through his actions as their leader, and to aim for him. The other members of his squad had been far slower to react and were still out in the open, but they seemed to pay no attention. Take the head out and the body would fall, pretty advanced techniques for savages. If it worked, it could spell the end for the squad. Helena had been a squad leader herself and would be capable of taking command quickly, but she was inexperienced compared to himself. He couldn't guarantee she would organise the squad quickly enough. He wouldn't even let her try - He wasn't going to let himself die. He was scared still, he'd never stopped being scared, but becoming a target had changed it entirely. He would beat them or he would die, it was a definite yes or no answer, not the maybe's he had been taking on until now. It made him determined enough to fight.

"How long till you can shoot!" He shouted over at the mortar squads, covering his face from the debris loosened by the bolts.

"One minute, we're working as fast as we can!" The response came.

"As soon as you're ready fire on them!"

"We were going to anyway!"

"Remember you said that" Kand smiled, before jumping over the top of the rock and down the ten feet drop to the road below. He glanced up quickly, the Barbarians were about 50 metres away from him but had grinded to a halt, his sudden movement startling them somewhat. He began to run straight towards them, blaster rife firing shots into them at maximum capacity. The few in the way actually began to dive out of the way, a reaction he hadn't seen the entire mission. The ones further back however weren't as easily surprised, rising their own crossbows and beginning to fire bolts back. A few clinked off of his armor, but he managed to keep himself low enough to not become a suitable target.

Finally, he found his mark. Another mini cave about halfway between the two forces, just low enough for him to be able to hide within. He barely hit the ground before he had managed to throw a grenade from his belt, aiming at what he believed was the centre of their forces. He heard it go off but did not see if it had caused any damage. Raising his head, he saw Wraith now returning to full firing capacity, happy now that their leader was not in danger of becoming a target. A few more cries of pain echoed into his hiding place, before a large pop was heard behind the Wraith line. Finally.

The explosion landed just above his cave, flooding the ground around him with fire and debris. Rolling himself into a ball and digging his way under the cover as deeply as possible, he prayed he would still be alive when the fire stopped.

We aren’t going to last much longer without those mortar launchers operational. They need to hurry up or we all will be dead before long.

Jori started shooting again, but was dismayed when a click sounded out from his gun. Checking it, he was in disbelief as the display read zero ammunition.

How has the clip emptied out that fast? It seems like just a minute ago, I was changing out the clips. I can’t last much longer like this because I only have a few clips left and at the rate I’m shooting, they won’t last but a minute each. This bites majorly.

Jori muttered to himself, but was stopped when an object flew over his head. Thinking it was a grenade, he dived to the ground and covered his head. He caught a glimpse of Kand near him when he went down, but lost sight of him. He waited a few moments for the burst, but was surprised when none came. Quickly jumping to his feet, he turned and saw Kand staring at a head that was lying on the ground near him. The gruesome skull was dripping blood from the eyes and had a horrible look upon its face. Unconsciously shuddering, Jori turned as a war yell from the barbarians brought him back to the real world. Resuming shooting, he slackened off on his rate of fire as he noticed a flash of movement that he caught in his peripheral vision. Looking over, he saw Kand disappear over an edge of the rock. Running over, he saw his Squad Leader making his way down the road, firing his rifle at maximum power towards a group of barbarians.

“What in the frak is he doing?” he said loudly.

He jumped slightly as the new recruit, Ananzi, appeared next to him.

“I think he is trying to get himself killed” he said, eliciting a small sigh from Jori.

Raising his gun, he aimed along the sights and drew a bead on the nearest barbarian. Pulling the trigger multiple times, he smiled slightly as the large form dropped to its knee. It was then finished off by a burst of fire that came from behind him, where Ananzi had dropped to a crouch in order to better aim. He stopped and frowned as a strange noise sounded out. As Kand ran into a small cave and gave a present to the barbarians in the form of a grenade, nearly all of Wraith let out a sigh of relief at the same time. Jori’s caught in his throat as the first mortar landed in the middle of the barbarian group and exploded, blowing them all to fiery bits. It also just happened to land right near Kand’s cave, making it collapse.

Oh jeez. That is not good at all. There is no way he can die, not now.

Yelling, Jori lept off of the rock, landed on the road, and ducked into a roll. Coming up to his feet, Jori continued running straight for the cave that was now a pile of rubble. Luckily, nearly all of the barbarians were pieces scattered all over the landscape, but a lucky few had been far enough away from the blast epicenter that they were able to avoid most of the damage. These were staggering to their feet as Jori passed, falling back down as Jori let off shots right into their midsections and heads. He was quickly joined by most of Wraith, with Joamer and Helena continuing on to help find Kand and the rest helping Jori clear out the rest of the barbarians. Once they was satisfied that the barbarians all were dead or at least immobilized, they ran towards the demolished cave where Helena and Joamer were helping Kand to his feet. Kand was really shaken and was cut up pretty badly, but was otherwise fine. The whole squad was thankful for that and, with Helena and Joamer  supporting Kand, they all moved back up to where the mortar launchers were stationed.

Helena and Joamer sat Kand down inside the cave behind the launchers.

"Get the launchers reconfigured, we have a mission to complete." Helena said.

Helena went to work on the cuts Kand had managed to aquire while Joamer went back outside. He looked off into the distance where the fighting was still going strong. Around him the members of Wraith squad had picked out spots and sat down, they kept a eye out for anymore trouble, but everything up here was quiet.

"Reconfigure for long range, it is time we helped our friends." Joamer said quietly to the mortar teams. He walked away without waiting for a response. They no longer appeared nervous, maybe seeing how efficient the squad was when backed into a corner gave them hope, or maybe they had passed the breaking point and no longer cared.

Joamer for one did not care, he was happy. The set of objectives was complete, and the squad was in relatively one piece, not counting cuts and bruises and shot nerves.

Finding a particularly comfortable looking rock he sat down. He was covered in dirt, debrie and blood, he was not sure if it was his, but at this moment he did not care much. Placing his DLT-20a against his leg he hung his head and breathed a deep sigh of relief.

He tried to hide the fear when placed into situations like this, he wondered if he was successful in his attempt. Other members of the squad choose to show it openly, others hide it. At the rare quiet times like these they all showed it to a degree, the deep sighs, the looks they had as the stared off into the distance.

He heard a faint whining from his right arm and looked over, a broke shaft from a crossbow bolt had wedged itself inside a flap in his armor. Gripping the shaft he pulled it out and tossed it away, the whining came from a overtaxed servo motor, with the way it was screaming it would give out soon, luckily he had backups in place to take over if one failed.

"You look like hell."

Glancing up Joamer half smiled as Anival grinned.

"You should look in a mirror."

Nothing else was said, that was the way with them. Few words and silence. Both of them were friends, comrades, brothers. All the Wraith were, surviving what they went through made them that way. He heard Anival sit down nearby and sigh deeply, he chuckled under his breath.

Kicking his feet out from under him Joamer slid the small distance to the ground, leaning his head back he rested it against the rock and closed his eyes.

"We need a vacation." Joamer mumbled quietly, Anival grunted a reply.

Soft thuds began emanating from the launchers, Joamer could picture the shells hitting the ground off into the distance, he wondered how the other battle was going.

Objectives complete. Continue to post though. Arn said I should do this, so don't yell at me Kand :P We pretty much finished up the objectives posts ago, but we needed a bit of a closer post.

Havock woke up, she could feel dried blood on her forehead and cheek. Guess I fell asleep, dang, wasn't supposed to do that. Hav's head was still swimming from the concussion she no doubt had. At first she assumed the pounding was her head, but after waking up further she was able to identify the sound as drums. She could see that it was night out side the small hut she was being held in. What in blazes are these bastards doing now?

Havock involuntary moved her arms, trying to get some blood circulating to the sore muscles. She felt the ropes binding her wrists grind against the wood. Havock frowned as she froze and looked outside at the patrolling guard. Working her arms up and down, Hav started to peel the layers of the binding away.

The patrolling guard turned and entered the hut. The large tattooed man looked at Havock with disgust then tossed a plate of sludge at her face. Havock spit as the 'food' slid down her face, the majority of it landing in her lap along with the plate. The man just chuckled then turned and left, tapping the other guard on the shoulder and sharing a funny story Hav was no doubt the main character of.

Using her tongue, Hav tasted the gross looking stuff smeared on her face. “Ack!” She promptly spit the gruel out. “Ick, yeah they are definitely trying to kill me, gross.” Continuing to spit and shake, getting the horrid paste off of her she looked up to see the two guards eying her suspiciously. When they noticed her looking they just turned to look at each other and busted out laughing.

Havock sent a seething glare out towards the entrance of her hut. She was grinding her teeth together, narrowing her gaze at the two barbarians, who were now paying no attention to the girl what-so-ever. As a few more drops of goop fell off her forehead, she continued working on using friction to break the rope. Luckily for her the 'rope' appeared to only be made of long leaves, probably from the forest that surrounded them.

Hav almost jumped when she felt the 'pop' of the rope finally breaking and her arms becoming free. Almost immediately she could feel blood rush to her arms and hands. Closing her eyes she enjoyed the feeling for an instant before re-assessing her situation.

The guards were not budging from the entrance, and her gear was way to close to them for her to manage to put it on without being noticed. “Humph.” Havock leaned against the poll, careful to keep her arms back in case the guards decided to check on her.

Suddenly all the sounds that had been permeating through the village ceased. The guards seemed bothered by something, they started to whisper and look off in the distance. Havock watched them patiently waited for them to decide to investigate whatever it was that had caught their attention. Frankly she could care less what was intriguing them she was just thankful for the distraction.

An explosion, rumbled the ground below her. Whatever caused that, was exactly the thing Havock had been waiting for. The guards took off at full speed in the direction of the explosion and flames. Hav ripped her arms from around her back and started to work on the ropes which bound her ankles.

Havock's eyes flicked from the rope to the entrance, she could hear sounds of screaming and shouting. The rope snapped off and Havock jumped to her feet, running for her gear. She didn't make it very far though. Her weakened muscles gave out almost immediately sending her sprawling back to the dirt floor. “Grrr, fracking hell.” Hav crawled to her gear and got her uniform back on. Her weapons and helmet were missing but at least she would have some protection.

Pressing her back against the wall of the hut, Havock peeked her head out to see the commotion. Many of the outlining huts were on fire. The barbarians were either frantically attempting to put out the fires or gathering weapons preparing to attack whoever was setting fire to their village.

Havock stood up, then a wave of dizziness and weakness struck her sending her falling back against the wall and down to the floor again. “Frak!” She slammed her fist into the mud wall. “Alright, enough of this crap. Its time to go.”

Grabbing the wall for support, Havock raised herself into a standing position. “You just need to get to the forest, just get out of the fraking burning village and get to the forest. You can do that.” It wasn't really bothering her that she had started to talk to herself, as long as it worked. Checking outside one more time, Havock made a run for it choosing a path around the hut that had the least number of barbarians.

She continued to use the building as support, but as she ran out of building to hold on to she made a break for the forest as fast as she could. She made it about thirty feet before falling to her knees and eventually prone, slithering to a pile of junk. She hid, coughing from the dust, looking around the village to re-assess her situation.

Cocking her head to the side she could make out the barbarians running around, it frankly looked like chaos. More buildings were burning, Hav flinched as another explosion took out a hut not far from her location. “Heh, time to go.”

Turning Havock could see that the crest of the forest was only another twenty, maybe twenty-five feet. She just needed one really good run and she could make it. Taking a few deep breaths, Havock got herself up into a standing position and took off at full speed. She managed to stay upright all the way past the first two rows of trees before slamming into one as she lost her balance. Havock rolled onto her back and slowed her breathing. She was tired, sore, in utter pain, dizzy, nauseous, and down right filthy but for the time being she was safe. Now maybe if she managed to regain the ability to walk she could find her squad.

Rogueboy ran his hand over the rifle, it was a bolt-action and for some odd reason Rogue always liked bolt action, and perhaps it was because you could always tell how much ammo you had. Either way, he liked it and that was all that mattered. Currently the squad had two ongoing problems; the first being that they were nowhere near finishing their objectives the second one being that they had lost a member and they were going to find her.

Knowing that Ron had a personal interest in finding Havock irked him for the simple reason that he knew Ron would expend more time and effort in finding Hav then he would in searching for another member. Perhaps that’s not true but the only way to properly tell would if another member would go missing, and frankly Rogue did not want to take that chance.

When the barbarian had attacked the camp, Rogue was pretty sure it was his shot that had taken down the ugly, after his shot he noticed that Grahim’s struck the earth not a foot from the enemy. There was no point in mentioning that to Ron as it would only make RB look cocky and he didn’t need the squad leader to think that. The search for Havock was going pretty bad, they had only found those barbarians and even then only small numbers of them and a few looked to be pretty banged up. Additionally the squad passed by fewer and fewer amounts of dead and displayed soldiers. Under normal times the squad would have called in every single body for pick up but the amount and time constraints said it would be unwise. Every second the squad wasted was time that could be spent trying to insure that Havock would survive.

Looking over his shoulder Rogue could see that Jae was checking him out and he couldn’t help but smile, even though he knew she couldn’t see. Opening a private com channel with Jae, Rogue started some banter. “Sorry sweetie, the meat market doesn’t open for a few more hours.”

Chuckling Jae responded. “Sorry sir, I just wanted a peep to see if there were any specials. No more fooling around though Rogue, I’m really worried for Hav.”

“I am too, but there’s no point in worrying about things you can’t change, Hav’s a good girl and she can take care of herself. When you’re in this business you either die or outlive all your friends, personally I would rather outlive them.” Rogue could tell Jae was looking at him before adding. “I’m sure you would as well.”

All of a sudden there was a slight woosh sound as something ran past Rogue, and it took him a few seconds to realize that it was Star running full speed ahead of the squad. RB ran as fast as he could in an attempt to stay in pursuit of Jaenna, he didn’t know what got her going but he was determined to make sure she didn’t get hurt. Then Rogueboy saw it, a lone stormtrooper running from two barbarians and it was Havock.

Before the rescue of Havock.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The squad was moving towards the barbarian village.

“I can see the village now.” Jae said. “And they are on alert, it seems like it has been an attack on the village.”

“We should try to flank them.” Ron said. “Rogue and Jae you two go around the village and draw their attention.” RB and StarFruit set off towards the other side of the village.

“Okay Grahim and Karash, you will try to get into the village and find Havock.” Ron continued. “Rae, Baretz, Beta, and I will try to take out as many barbarians as possible.”
Grahim and Karash followed the palisade that protected the village.

“I think we will have to climb the palisade and take out the guards up there then we will see what happends.” Karash said. “We will start to climb when RB and Jae is drawing the attention.”

“Okeeday, deysa barbarians have started to move. Mesa think RB and Jae have drawn the attention now” Grahim said.

“Okay we will climb this palisade as we climbed when we left our halftrack.” Karash said as he and Grahim started to climb the palisade. The palisade was about three meters high. Karash was the first to get up on the palisade, but Grahim wasn’t far behind. Grahim and Karash took out the two guards. Grahim and Karash used their knives to cut two barbarian sentries' throats to avoid making much noise. Grahim started to look where Hav could be.

“Mesa isa trying to spot Havock, what are yousa doing?” Grahim said.

“I I am looking to see how many villagers there are, also trying to see how many are armed.” Karash answered. “I think we would do Havock a greater favour if we started with taking out the villagers, because then she can flee on her own.” Grahim raised his sniper rifle and started shooting the villagers, he didn’t care if he killed a woman or a man they were just there to be removed. Karash didn’t seem to care either. Grahim saw that there were two barbarians guarding a hut in the middle of the village.

“Mesa think mesa found where Havock isa.” Grahim said. “Could yousa throw una frag so mesa can take out the first guard?”

“Yes I can do that” Karash said. Grahim took aim on one of the barbarians, and waited for the frag to explode. The frag exploded, Grahim shot the same second the frag exploded. The other barbarian ran away to get cover when his friend fell to the ground. Grahim shot the barbarian in the back when he was running away. Grahim tapped Karash on the shoulder and said. “Wesa should get down there and try to get Havock out of thesa place.”

“I agree with you, lets go.” Karash said as he climbed down. Grahim stayed up on the palisade to make sure Karash wasn't shot when he climbed down.

“I am down now I will protect you when you climbs down” Karash said. Grahim started to climb down. When Grahim was down he saw that Karash was shooting at something then he saw that Havock was chased by two barbarians. Karash shot one down and the other Jae took down.

Havock tried and failed to stand a few times before giving up and rolling to her side. The ringing in her ears was getting worse, she needed to find Karash or just anyone at this point. Looking back towards the village she could see two barbarians running in her direction.

You have got to be kidding me. Really? You are going to chase me when your village is on fire?

Havock just stared at them as they got closer to where she was. She couldn't stand without falling, she was shaking. The sweat had caused the once dried blood to run down her face yet again. She knew what was going to happen. There was absolutely nothing she could do to stop it. No weapons, no strength left, she wasn't going to make it easy but she had little in her arsenal to make it all that difficult either.

The barbarian that was winning the race to kill Havock, flinched. Havock narrowed her gaze, the ringing in her ears was making it difficult to make out the sounds around her. Then she watched his head snap back before he fell to the ground. Havock thought she was seeing things she shook her head, she could almost swear she heard someone call her name.

Looking off to her side, Hav saw the source of all the confusion. Two stormtroopers were running, full tilt, in Havock's direction. Jae stuttered in Hav's direction then took off towards the remaining barbarian.

Rogueboy knelt behind Havock's head with his rifle drawn, ready to hit any other barbarians that may run in their direction. “You okay there, Havvy?”

Havock tore her eyes away from Jaenna for a split second to glance up at Rogue. “Never better, what took you so long?”

His eyes were on Jae as well as he checked his rifle. “You know, beer run of course.”

Jae jumped at the barbarian, she was shouting something Havock couldn't make out. She grabbed his spear, yanking it from his grasp as she was stomping on his foot as hard as she could. The large man barely flinched, but he did lose his grasp on the spear. Jae rolled behind him, as he turned she jabbed the spear in his neck. Blood spurted and rolled down the poll, Jae kicked the barbarian square in the chest sending him falling to the forest floor. She stood over him, Havock could see her chest rise and fall as she struggled to get her emotions under control.

Rogue was still watching the perimeter for any more barbarians, they seemed to be far to involved in the firefighting to be bothered by an escaped prisoner. “Karash should be here any minute.”

Havock nodded. Jae yanked off her helmet and ran right at Hav grabbing her and hugging her as Hav slammed to the ground. “Ack! Good to see you too, Jae.” Havock chuckled as she winced in pain. Jae must have noticed she promptly let go, pulling away to take a closer look at her friend.

Jae's eyes were searching Havock, taking inventory of all of her visible injuries. She looked so concerned Hav could see her tearing up. “I'm okay Jae, I mean I'll live. I'm in a fair amount of pain right now, but I'm going to be okay, honest.”

“You really need to stop getting yourself into so much trouble.” Jae touched Havock's cheek then put her hand back on her shoulder.

Hav shook her head, a movement that hurt way more than it should have. “Naw, then you'll just miss saving my ass.” Hav smirked when Jae laughed softly.

Karash came running up, “Can you kindly get off my patient please.” Jae frowned up at the PFC, then seemed to come to terms with the the fact that he was the medic and she should listen to him. As Jae knelt next to Hav, Karash came to her side and started to examine her injuries.

Karash was shining lights in Hav's eyes, the brightness made her recoil from him. “So Havock, did you enjoy your little vacation? What have I told you about those wild parties?”

Havock looked from Kar to Rogue. “You boys are just full of jokes today aren't you?”

Karash looked up at Rogue, then addressed Jaenna. “She has a very bad concussion, who knows what else. I need more time, and we need to get out of here.”

Jae nodded, “is it safe to move her?”

Havock had an incredulous look on her face. “Hello, I'm right here. I can walk, I'm fine.”

“Like hell you can.” Ron came walking up to the group. “Karash, report.” Ron seemed to visibly relax when he saw that Havock was safe and conscious.

Karash rolled his eyes, obviously put out by having to repeat himself. “Concussion, its a bad concussion, probably something to do with that nasty gash on her forehead running up her scalp.”

Ron nodded. “Jaenna and Karash you help Havvy. Rogue you and I will cover.”

Jae got up to get her helmet from where she dropped it. Rogue stood and spoke up. “Hang on, what about the barbarians? Don't we need to make sure there all gone before we head back?”

“You missed my work?” Ron pointed to the burning village. “Grahim and the others are shooting any they can see, they are all trapped in the flames. This lot shouldn't give us any trouble for now, we have enough time to get back and meet up with the others.”

Jae walked up snapping her helmet on as she approached, “Sounds good to me, lets go.”

Jae and Kar got Havock into a standing position, each throwing one of her arms over their shoulder. Havock winced, the forest looked like it was swimming around her. She decided just to close her eyes, throwing up was not something she fancied at this point.

Ron turned to Karash just before scouting ahead with Rogue. “As soon as we get back Kar, you check her out thoroughly. And if you need to knock her ass out, you just make sure she gets some rest.”

Kar nodded, “yes, sir.”

The village of barbarians was now engulfed by flame and the screams coming from it were not recognisable as man, woman or child; Karash was not concerned with this because he thought they deserved to die for what they were doing to platoon. Karash could see that there were two barbarians chasing a smaller figure away from the camp, the smaller figure was likely to be Havock so both Karash and Grahim began to run in the same direction. Grahim shot on of the giants and by more luck than skill managed to kill it with a shot to the head; the other barbarian was attacked by Raiders ASL and ended up being killed with its own spear.

As Karash approached Havock, who had now fallen to the floor, Jae looked ever more protective. “Can you kindly get off my patient please.” He said whilst straightening himself out.

As Karash was shining lights in Havock’s eyes and prodding parts of her body, she said “So I am I going to live?”

Karash grinned and said “I should think so.” The grin on his face grew when he said “So Havock, did you enjoy your little vacation? What have I told you about those wild parties?”

“You boys are just full of jokes today aren't you?” Havock replied.

Karash turned back to his medpac, he could here Jae and Hav whispering to each other probably nothing important but he did not like to hear people whispering around him. Havock’s injuries were not too bad or at least she will not die, but still a bit more treatment may be required.

“She has a very bad concussion, who knows what else. I need more time, and we need to get out of here.” Karash said in a very matter of fact way.

“Is it safe to move her?” Jae asked.

“Hello, I'm right here. I can walk, I'm fine.” Havock said in a very frustrated tone of voice.

“Karash, report.” The squads SL had now joined the little group that was surrounding Havock.

‘I have only just said this, why don’t people listen?’ Karash thought before re-entering the real world. “Concussion, it’s a bad concussion, probably something to do with that nasty gash on her forehead running up her scalp.” He answered.

“Jaenna and Karash you help Havvy. Rogue you and I will cover.” As the SL gave out his orders Karash quickly began to pack his medpac away.  “As soon as we get back Kar, you check her out thoroughly. And if you need to knock her ass out, you just make sure she gets some rest.”

“Yes sir.” Karash replied.

As they made their way back to the makeshift camp that had been made Karash began to feel the weight of Havock push down on to him, she was not particularly heavy but it was not helping the injury to his foot. All that could be heard, no matter how far they got away, was the soaring of the flames and the screams of those unlucky enough to be trapped within them. There were no more ambushes from the barbarians as they walked back through the forest Karash believed that both sides had had enough for the time being.

“Alright, if we put her down here she should be fine.” Karash said to Jae.

“Jaenna over here.” Ron said. The ASL did not look like she wanted to leave Havock but she had no choice. “The rest of you keep up your guards.”

Karash reached into his medpac once again to find something for all the little cuts that were spread over Havock’s arms and legs, a small bacta patch would be enough for those. The large cut on her head would have to wait for now and internal injuries would have to be dealt with first, of Karash could not see if she had any internal injuries as he did not have the proper equipment.

“What the hell is that for!?” Havock said loudly referring to the needle Karash was now holding.

“Its some bacta to try and hold back only internal problems you may have.” Karash replied wondering why she was so worried.

“Fine but will it hurt?” Havock asked.

“Of course so brace yourself.” Karash did not wait another second and just pushed the thing into her arm. It provoked a less than happy reaction from Havock but he was concerning himself with that.

“Alright, I can put a bacta pad on that cut on your face. However a scar may develop unless you go into a full bacta tank.” The look on Hav’s face gave Karash his answer. “As you obviously aren’t going to leave the front lines that will have to do, now anything I have missed?” Karash asked.

“I have a pain in my leg…”She did not get to finish her sentence.

“I have said I can’t do anything about that, as you won’t leave the front lines.” Karash said once again speaking in a matter of fact tone.

Just then Jaenna ran back over to them, “Is she alright?”

“I’m fine Jae, what is it?” replied Havock.

“We have had our orders to get back; we wanted to know if you can walk on your own yet?”

Hav was just about to answer when Karash said “She still has concussion but that should wear off soon but apart from that she is fine. If anything is wrong we will soon know about it.”

“What do you mean anything else?” Jae asked.

Karash was about to explode by repeating himself for a third time but Havock managed to interject first, “I am fine, lets go, I could deal with some sleep though.”

“Take this one if any pain occurs and this one to get some sleep. For heaven sake don’t get the two mixed up because I am not carrying you again.

Havock chuckled before leaving with Jae. The squad moved out and they all hoped that they would see no more of those barbarians on the way back.

Raider’s had set up camp near a brook, the purity tester showed that it was relatively clean water so the squad had taken a break to gather water, eat a ration, and for Hav’s pounding head ache to clear up. Rogue had taken point on the walk from the barbarian’s camp to where they were now. The mental justification for being on point so many times was that Rogue had more experience then the rest of the squad and he knew what to look for. This belied the real reason why RB continuously volunteered, because traditionally if no one volunteers then the assistant squad leader or the squad leader does it. Glancing at Star, RB silently admired how the stormtrooper armour clung to her figure. Running her hands through her auburn hair Jaenna took a sip from her canteen.

Muttering to himself, Rogue finally built up the courage to approach Starfruit. “Hey Jaenna, want go for a walk?” He stammered.

Stupid, you couldn’t ask that properly?

Jaenna seemed to immediately smile at Rogue’s discomfort. “Sure, let me just tell Ron.” Star said as she ran off to the squad leader’s side.

It took Jae only a few seconds before she hurried back. “Ron says not to go too far, so let’s go.” Jae’s smile met Rogue’s.

Taking a romantic walk in a forest full of death was not Rogue’s first thought when romantic walk is mentioned but it will have to do. With his rifle slung over his left shoulder Alex used his right hand to grasp Jaenna’s gauntleted left hand. “I thought you were right-handed?” She asked.

“I’m a semi-ambidextrous.” Rogue answered.

“You just have all kinds of talent don’t you?” Jae said with a grin.

It was a relief to have their helmets off; the large plastoid bubbles tend to make intimacy rather difficult. “How do you feel about this mission so far?” RB asked Jae.

“I don’t particularly like it, I feel that this planet will be more problematic once we conquer it.” Jae said smartly.

Not just a pretty face. Rogue mused to himself.

“I agree with your assessment, the barbarians will definitely harass the local population under Imperial rule. Unless of course they can be converted or destroyed.” Rogue gave a cold smile.

“Enough about politics, what did you want to go on this walk for?” The directedness in Star’s question stunned Rogue.

Gathering his wits about him, Rogue slowly expressed himself. “Jaenna, I care a lot about you, much more than a soldier should for his ASL.” Taking a deep breath RB continued. “I want to know, if we both survive this mission when we get back to base do you want to go out with…” The rest of the sentence was lost as Jae’s lips met his, with enough force that they banged their heads, cutting the kiss short as they both collapsed on the ground holding their foreheads. “Damn it Jae, I didn’t think you were that excited.” Rogue said clutching his head as a wave of pain washed over him.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean too, this really hurts!” Jaenna yelled back.

Many minutes later the duo returned back to the brook where the Raider’s were waiting. “How was the “scouting” did you guys find any trouser snakes?” Beta yelled out, to a crowd of giggles.

“Alright guys enough.” Ron said with a grin before adding. “Back in formation we need to continue marching.”

Grahim saw RB and Jae walk away from the camp. Grahim cleaned his weapon to make sure it wasn’t damaged. Grahim was interrupted by some yelling from the forest.

“Damn it Jae, I didn’t think you were that excited.” Grahim heard RB yell.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean too, this really hurts!” Jae yelled back. Then Grahim went back to cleaning his weapon. When Grahim was done with cleaning the weapon RB and Jae came back to the camp.

“How was the “scouting” did you guys find any trouser snakes?” Beta yelled and Grahim couldn’t avoid laughing out loud.

“Alright guys enough.” Ron said with a large smile before continuing. “Back in formation we need to continue marching.” Grahim didn’t like this because it wasn’t long until it would be dark.

“Couldn’t wesa stay here for the night?” Grahim asked.

“Sorry we can’t we need to move out.” Ron answered. “And we wouldn’t want Wraith and Iron Horse to get all fun would we? And now when we have the barbarians on the run we must hunt them or we will soon be the hunted.” RAIDERS Squad started to pack down the camp so the squad could move on. Grahim and Beta packed down one of the tents.

“Why did yousa decide to come back to the corps?” Grahim asked.

“I had to much spare time” Beta answered.

“Why isa that?” Grahim said.

“I didn’t get a job” Beta said. Grahim and Beta had almost packed down half the tent when Ron asked for the attention.

“Before we starts to move I think we should have a briefing, dismissed” Ron said.

“I wonder why he would brief us here” Beta said. “Yeah well we should get this tent packed down before start to think about that” Grahim was wondering why this war even had started because it felt odd that the empire just would try to conquer a planet without a motive. When The tent was down Grahim went to see Karash if he could do anything at the wound Grahim had got on the leg when they climbed the palisade.

“Hidoe Karash, could yousa look at mine leg?” Grahim asked.

“Yeah I can do that I don’t have anything to do anyway” Karash said. “Sit here” He said and pointed on a rock. Karash examined the wound.

“You should be fine, it is only a chafe.” Karash said. “I will put some bandage around it so it doesn’t get worse.” Grahim walked around the camp to see if there were anything else he could do. Mesa want to get back home mesa don’t feel safe here, but mesa thinks it comes with the job. Grahim thought.

Day 14
Passes South of Death Valley, 12.00

Arnaut sagged against the side of his truck. His arms were trembling. There was blood over his armor, splashed haphazardly in crimson, swirling patterns. The smell was overwhelming, even with the helmet. It dripped off, steaming in the cold mountain air, before congealing on the ground beside him. The smell was overwhelming, even with the helmet.

Nausea came on so suddenly that Arnaut was forced to take off his helmet. He gasped, the biting air taking him by surprise. The smell wasn’t exactly better, but the wind took some of the edge off at least. With numb, shaking hands, he went to set his helmet down. There wasn’t a place though. To his left was blood, to his right were indiscernible scraps of meat and blood. He hesitated for a second, finally got fed up and tossed his helmet a good five feet away. It bounced, landing in a puddle of brackish mud.

Kanderin stumbled by, only noticing Arnaut at the last second. His eyes widened slightly, as if he were surprised to actually see another person still alive. He sank to his needs in the mud, not saying anything.

“We should...get moving,” he said finally. He sounded as if he was out of breath. His left hand tremored slightly and he used his right to calm it. “Can’t...stay here. Not safe.”

Arnaut looked away but he knew Kanderin was right. Frig, but they needed to get moving. How long had they spent here already? Twenty minutes? Forty? Sorin’s men had held off the barbarians for a while, but they would be on their trail now. There was no time to waste.

Ignoring his body’s cries for rest and using the sword as a crutch, he pushed himself to his feet. It felt better standing, he thought. He took in a few cold gulps of air, trying to get his body awake. He need to be sharp, not all strung out like this.

“Wildcard, form up. Army units, watch the rear. Wraith cover them.” He pointed with his sword, getting a feel for the weight and balance of it. He was much more used to knives, but the sword felt good in his grip. Almost, but not quite, natural.

“Kand, lead them forward. Almost forgot something.” His adjutant nodded as he stood up. “Get everyone inside and begin to barricade the entrance.”

“What about Raiders? They won’t be able to get in once we put up the barricades, most likely.” Kanderin’s voice sounded genuinely worried. And why shouldn’t he be? They hadn’t seen nor heard a single thing from the Raiders in nearly four days. If they barricaded themselves inside the caves, chances were good that they wouldn’t ever see them again. Arnaut looked up at the sky, trying to come up with an answer.

“I’m sure,” he faltered for a second, “sure that they’ll be fine.” Kanderin nodded, but looked hardly reassured. Thankfully though he didn’t say another word as he went to lead the troops off. Arnaut went in the opposite direction, onto the battlefield. He kept his sword in hand.

Finally he made it to the man he’d killed. The scabbard for Arnaut’s new weapon was still attached to his belt. Just where he’d left it after taking the sword. Slowly, reverently, Arnaut bent down and began to remove it from the man’s belt. Try as he might, though, he just couldn’t ignore the Vast Imperial insignia sewn on the sleeve of the man’s uniform, or shake off the feeling that he was doing something wrong.

Day 02
Death Valley, 16.33

One second. One clear, perfect second. For one second, the sun came out. For a second, the world turned to light and the clouds parted, and there was crystalline perfection. One, shining second.

The sniper round exploded a chunk of the vehicle next to Sorin’s head. The metal turned into superheated fragments that lacerated his helmet, scoring deep gauges in the pristine white armor. He convulsed, adrenaline and natural instinct propelling him to the ground, just in time to avoid two more sniper rounds, both hitting the ground next to him. They ejected a sooty cloud of ash into the air.

Up above, on the ridge, the sniper opened on full auto, peppering the area around his missed target. But Sorin was already gone.

“Wraiths, ten o’clock, on the ridge line! Sniper!”

The Wraiths turned, directing the mortar teams toward the ridge. It began to disintegrate under multiple mortar bursts.

“He could’ve at least said please,” Kanderin breathed under his breath.

* * *

Time seemed to slow to a crawl. It was all so unreal. He had had the shot. Perfectly. Lined it up, measured it out. He had had the shot. The shock of his failure left him reeling. He stopped thinking. He stopped calculating. He sprayed out his entire clip on one target. He was still in shock. He couldn’t believe what had happened. He hadn’t missed a shot since basic. Basic.

The hillside around him was dying. In a last effort of will, the Sniper managed to rally himself into a state of somewhat consciousness and make it out of danger. But the damage was done. They knew he existed. They knew that he could kill. They knew he was vulnerable.

Silently he cursed the scout commander that he’d missed. Cursed him not for who he was, but what he stood for. He was the one that got away, the shot that he missed.

Filled with cold fury, he vowed that he wouldn’t miss a second time. He stalked away from the battle, his knuckles white around his rifle.

* * *

The battle seemed to be ebbing, Arnaut remembered noting. The tide of men seemed to be slackening. Their quick defense of the convoy seemed to be working.

And then it was over. One minute there were men, the next there was nothing. It was like someone had turned off the faucet. In place of the din of battle settled an uncomfortable and eerie silence punctuated by the occasional cries of the wounded and sporadic blaster fire. From the way that some of the screams seemed to end abruptly after each burst of fire, it was safe to assume that not all of it was for the enemy. Looking around, Arnaut could understand why.

The bodies around him were not intact in any sense of the word. They had been rent apart, violently but diligently, until nothing remained but an assortment of mismatched parts. Here was an arm. Did it belong to that torso, the one without a head? Or did it belong to that one? Whose hand was this, whose foot? Did it matter any more?

The ash, once gray had now faded to a sort of maroon color. It was sticky and clumped uncomfortably around the soles of the soldiers’ boots. After a few moments, Arnaut didn’t even bother trying to scrape it off. There was simply too much.

“Officers’ meeting!” An unfamiliar voice called out. Arnaut looked around and found a junior officer waving to him from the back of the command tank. He seemed urgent and annoyed at the same time. Annoyed that Arnaut wasn’t coming fast enough.

“...the hell does he think he is?” Arnaut muttered and trudged over, keenly aware of how heavy the muck made his boots.

“And you might be?” Sorin asked gruffly, arriving before Arnaut.

“I am Cap—Major Antus, leader of Dagger Battalion. You must be Sorin. You came up quite a lot in our conversations.” Somehow, Antus managed to twist the last sentence to sound like an insult. Sorin bristled but Arnaut spoke up before he had a chance to retort.

“‘Our’? And where is Marcus?”

We – that being Marcus and I –  conversed many times. I was his executive officer. Unfortunately, he died of a fatal blaster shot to the head during the battle. Pity, really.” Antus smiled wolfishly. “He was such a good commander.”

Arnaut finally noted Marcus’ sword attached to the newcomer’s belt and pushed down the strong desire to shoot him in the face where he stood. He knew the sentiment was shared when Sorin’s hand flinched toward his pistol. Arnaut looked at him levelly and gave a small shake of his head. Sorin sneered back, but retracted his hand.

Antus watched the exchange with hungry eyes, smiling inwardly. It all but confirmed for Arnaut that Antus had killed his commanding officer. For power, for money, for a woman, it didn’t matter, but it had happened and that was that. There wasn’t much Arnaut or Sorin could do, not in front of the troops. The Daggers would be on them in seconds and, even with their better training, the Daggers would destroy Wildcard and Alpha alike.

As if to punctuate this point, Antus’ bodyguard joined them, creating a half-circle around the trio. They were the protection from people trying to get to their commander. Or get away from, Arnaut thought sardonically.

“If we may continue inside?” Antus asked, indicating toward the command tank. Sorin muttered an expletive under his breath, but stepped up anyway. Arnaut followed close behind.

The space in the tank, having seemed so crowded before with Marcus and his retinue, seemed even smaller then, with just the three of them. Arnaut was sitting next to a murderer and there wasn’t anything Arnaut could do about it. They’d all killed of course; technically they were all murderers. This was different, though. This was treason.

Antus opened his pocket and pulled out a mini holoprojector, laying it on the floor in between the men.

“Who’s corpse did you steal that off of?” Sorin said, just audible. Antus ignored the jab and opened it up. It displayed a picture of the mountain range they were in. A tap of a button and it was showing the valley that they were currently in. It looked much different in the hologram. Less...burned down. More forest.

“This is where we are right now,” Antus said, pointing to the glowing mark in the center of the valley. “Approximately. Without communications, we don’t have telemetry from the navy ships in orbit, and therefore can’t be positively sure about where we are.

“Now, this is the village we’re heading to. Roughly...twenty clicks north of here, thirty by the path we’re taking. That’s a good, solid three days at our rate through the passes. This is unacceptable.”

Sorin snorted loudly. “And you have a better solution?”

“Actually, I do.” He spun the hologram around. “We’ve found another pass. It goes around, circumventing the village and allowing us to come from the north. They’ll never see us coming.”

“They?”

“The men controlling the village.”

“The men who are believed to number in the tens, according to intel.”

“The same intel that stated that the locals would be of no threat.” Arnaut stared firmly at Antus. There was a tense, silent moment.

“No,” Sorin said finally. “We’ll be going down a longer unknown path, into their territory.”

“We’re pretty much already in their territory! We need to go this way.” Was there a hint of desperation in his voice? There was something Antus wasn’t telling. The Major calmed himself, taking in a deep breath and looking at the floor. “Major Sorin. I am the Commanding Officer of this expedition. Any attempt you make to defy me will be considered an act of treason against the Vast Empire itself.”

Sorin stared at him. “That’s funny, coming from you.” And then he stood up and shoved his way out of the command tank, disappearing amongst the crowds of men cleaning up after the battle.

* * *

They spent the evening camped in the valley. By the morning, the ultimatum had been passed around; leave with Antus, or risk being branded a traitor. In the morning, Antus finally took off with his band of ‘loyalists’. All but one Army Platoon left. Unsurprisingly, all of Wildcard and Alpha remained behind.

“Thanks,” Arnaut said, as Alpha’s commander stalked by.

“Hm?”

“Thanks for...staying behind,” Arnaut said, a bit sheepishly.

“Don’t think I did this for you. Better with a fool than with a backstabbing traitor,” Sorin replied rudely before stalking off. Arnaut took it as a compliment anyway.

Three days later, Sorin and the ‘fool’ arrived in the village. Antus was still conspicuously missing.

OOC:
Ah, the village.

A few things to point out that are not mentioned in my post but may be mentioned as already having happened in yours:

The village is abandoned. Nobody there. We destroy the AA guns as soon as we arrive. It smells like a trap, though. We hold the village.

We found out about the downed bomber. That's where IH's objectives come from.

The village is all wooden buildings, abandoned, rotting. No bodies, nothing like that. Just...empty. It's rather large, for a village in the mountains. We fortify these buildings.

It's day 6 now. The weather is dark and rainy, 24/7. This should add to the mood.

Now, onto the actual objectives:

These objectives seem simple, but they shouldn't be. Make them complex. These are good for character development outside of sitting around a sabacc deck with a pack of smokes. Use it.

Iron Horse: At half a squad, you get a relatively easy mission. There's a downed bomber up a ways from this village we're in. Trek through the forest around and find the fighter and the pilot. The bomber should have a clearer picture of the surrounding terrain and, possibly, enemy encampments stored in it's little...data...thing. Connected to its camera. The pilot, while expendable, needs to be recovered for PR reasons.

Wraith: You'll be staying in the village to fortify. You'll need to secure the western and North-West sides of the village however you can (we enter from the south, so no reason to fortify there). We're expecting mainly infantry, but armor is still a real possibility. You'll have the mortars, so you need to find a good place to set them up. You'll also have an E-webs or two.

Raiders:
You're in the village as well. You'll have the North-East and Eastern sides. Like Wraith, fortify it however you can. Mainly infantry, but maybe armor as well. Instead of mortars to place, you'll be given snipers and det-packs (like C4 basically). You need to create a series of sniper nests and fall back points in case we're overrun, and then fortify it all. Think...Saving Private Ryan. At the end of the movie. That's basically what we're doing. You'll have one or two E-webs to use as well.

The whole idea for fortifying the village, for both squads, is to set up fall back points that you can use in case we're overrun. Don't just mention them in passing either. You'll actually be using these things when it comes down to the battle for the village. If you want to capture the mood (and I mentioned this in the Raiders' objectives), watch the end of Saving Private Ryan. I think that's a perfect mood for what we're doing here. I could recommend a few pulp fiction books as well, but you'll probably have less time/desire to read them. So, yeah, SPR.

A map might come out for the village. I may not do it and leave it up to you guys to define the village in your own words. We'll see. If it becomes too confusing, I'll make a map.

I'm out this weekend, so I expect to see lotsa posts when I return. Questions to be directed toward the SLs. SLs...help each other.

"Rogue, take the left upper level nest and keep a watch out. I'll post Grahim in the nest directly opposite the street, same level." Jaenna said to the PSGT as she looked down on him, while he was cleaning his sniper rifle. Dirt smudged both of their faces, blood stained their white armor, and multiple scratches were obvious across the no longer shiny plates of white plastoid material. It was odd, looking down on Alex as he sat there, cleaning his rifle. Not a day before, she had accepted the PSGT's offer for a relationship. Jaenna had been checking out the slightly older boy a few times before on Kalee, and was worried to death about him during his absent time on Praexus. But now... the feelings were even more obvious. During their time here, on this horrible planet, Jaenna had grown to like the guy even more, looking at him with those sea-foam eyes showing obvious affection. He had noticed and perused after that kiss they shared. Heh, the kiss was odd. Different than many situations that two people who cared for each other would find themselves in, but it ended up turning out for the better.

"Oi. Jae. You alright there?" Alex chuckled as he nudged Jae's knee with the butt of his rifle.

Shaking her head, Jaenna came back from her thoughts and chuckled softly as their eyes met. "Yeah sorry. Alright, go to your post, and set your rifle there, then come back down and help the rest of us get these barricades set up. We're going to tear down a house and use the wood to build up some nice walls in the Eastern entrance of the-"

Alex laughed, cutting off Jaenna's speech and orders. "Jae, we will be fine." he said softly, reaching up to grab the white and blood stained gauntlet covering Jaenna's left hand. She couldn't but smile at the simple touch. They stayed there, staring at each other for a few moments. Then, Jaenna dropped to her knees between Alex's own legs, and pressed her lips to his, sighing softly as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

The guy was taken off guard from the sudden contact, but gave in and kissed back, a little less than passionately, only to save the two from continuing the contact for too long. When the two troopers finally broke the kiss, Jaenna leaned back, staying close enough to wear they were touching noses. "I just... I'm scared."

There. She had finally admitted it.

Sighing softly, Alex reached up a hand and set it against Jae's left cheek. He ran his thumb over the girl's green star tattoo. His eyes held worry, affection and overall confidence. He was sacred too, but with Jaenna now connected to him in a way more than just Trooper and ASL, he wanted to exude an air of confidence. For her, and for the rest of the squad. "Star, you go finish giving orders. I'll go complete mine, and then we can relax a little. Alright? Everything will be fine. I'll say it, but I'm not promising. This is the army after all." Nodding, Jaenna smiled and stood up, leaving Alex sitting against the wall of a building, his helmet next to him and rifle in lap.

While walking away, and heading towards Grahim, Jaenna couldn't help but think about Havock now. Ayme Katash, the girl who she mentored. What would she think about the relationship?

"Ugh. Not enough time, Jae. Come on. Focus on the mission." She said to herself.

Grahim was sitting on a crate, also polishing his rifle, cleaning the grime from it that had gathered during one of the attacks from the barbarians. The gungan looked as though he was about to burst with excitement.  This, being quite the odd expression for a gungan, made Jaenna cock her head to the side slightly. After covering the remaining thirty feet to wear the gungan was situated on his little crate, the ASL looked down at him, a smirk plastered to her soft pink lips.

She chuckled, the gungan looked up. "Hey there, Grahim. What has you so happy?"

He shrugged and chuckled back. "Hideo, Star. Meesa don't know. But messa is just excitedid about deesa next objective." Jaenna chuckled.

"Well I'm glad to hear that, bud." Grahim nodded and cocked his head, silently asking what the ASL needed of him. "Could you go up that building right there?" She pointed, the gungan followed her finger and looked at the building. "I want you to nest with your rifle in the second window from the left edge of the building, upper level. I already scouted the building's windowsills, and they are high enough for you to duck effectively behind one." She broguht her hand back to her side, and set it on her hip, looking down at the gungan, waiting for a response.

He looked back to the ASL after studying the building for a bit more, and nodded. "Righteo, mam. Meesa get to it right away."

"Oh no no." Janena shook her head and chuckled. "Wait for the signal. We are going to finish the fortification at the villages entrances and exits first, bud. Just go scout your nest for right now, and barricade it to your needs."

Grahim saluted, smiling as he did so. Jaenna saluted back and turned, adjusting the vibroblades on her back as she began to walk away.

The ASL continued on her way, getting deeper into the city while she made her way towards Havock and Karash, who were sitting on the steps of a building. Karash looked as though he was inspecting Havock again. Heh. Karash was a wonderful medic. It made Jaenna feel great to be in second command of a squad that cared for each other so much. Raelene was sitting with Baretz and Beta, talking about the mission so far, and Ron was... well he was probably off playing with his data pad somewhere, or trying to find out exactally how to blow down a building so they could use the wood and other debris from it for fortifying the rest of the village. Jaenna Reed 'Star' Caldwin. The Assistant Squad Leader of RAIDERS. It made her smile. Everyday. Just to know that she was part of such a wonderful squad.

Jaenna shook her head as she neared Havock and Karash. She looked at them, they waved to her, and she smiled at them. "Hey guys. How are you feeling?"

"Pretty good. Head still hurts a little though." was Havock's reply as she shrugged. Karash grumbled at her then saluted Jaenna, who saluted back rather loosely.

"I'm doing good as well, Star. What do you need from us?" Karash asked in a soft, and yet still obedient voice.

Chucking, Jaenna smiled some more before speaking again. "Havock just needs to rest. Oh shoosh. Don't argue with me, girl." Jae said playfully before Havock had time to respond in the grumbling way that she knew the younger trooper would try. "Kar, coudl you go find Ron for me? He told me to hand out orders to you, Hav, RB and Grahim. But I haven't seen him since then." Karash quickly saluted and got up to go find the SL.

Havock sighed and looked up Jaenna, who only smiled and chuckled softly. Jaenna sat down on the step just below Havock, and turned sideways, so that it was easier to look up at the younger girl. "So..."

Havock cut her off. "You and RB are together now." She almost sounded apathetic in a way. It made Jaenna look back down to the ground. "Jae. I'm not mad. Don't think I am. Why would I be?" Now, it sounded like Hav was denying something to herself.

"I know you aren't mad. It's just... I dunno." Jaenna needed to tell Havock. But she really didn't know how to.

Arg. This damn confusion was going to get on her nerves. She knew it.

They made their way through the forest. Being careful to try and keep a lookout for the enemy. One never knew if they had rear guards and were smart enough. Yet the rest of the squads were heading towards their goal as her com drew some static and Doc's voice came through.

"We have some new objectives that came through."

"Yes sir?"

"There's a downed bomber up a ways from this village the others are all heading or are already at. We need to head in that direction and get to the bomber. The pilot should still be there."

Saph frowned for a moment as sweat dripped down the back of her lek'ku.

"Why there sir?"

"The bomber might give us a clearer picture of the surrounding area. If we're lucky, maybe some of the enemy camps."

" Yes Sir. Regroup and head out together?"

"No. We'll meet you there. Just get going and be safe." Doc replied.

"Aren't I always ?" She chuckled back to lighten the mood. She could hear Doc sigh on the other end.

"That's what I am afraid of. Just see you there." He replied and cut the Com connection. Saph sighed and looked to the others and raised a hand to halt them.

"Alright troopers. We have new objectives...." Saphira started and went on to explain where they had to go. Once done an Alpha trooper spoke up.

"Why that way? I'm not use to this.."

"It's our objectives trooper.. " She said harshly. No on said another word as she waited for any other replies. "Alright then. Doc and the others will meet us there. Keep an eye out for any of the enemy. We don't know if there will be any ahead or not.."

With nods from everyone they headed out. Keeping their eyes open as they came across broken twigs and some footprints. Saphira leaned over and touched the branch. It was fresh. Standing she held her E-11 out.

"Keep an eye out. The tracks are fresh. Maybe within the last hour or so.."

Hav smirked at Jae, then shook her head. The girl looked plain confused, which was fascinating to Havock since she was almost positive she was the more confused of the pair. What she had to be puzzled about was the even better question. Her friend was happy. They were in a God-forsaken hell hole and Jae was happy. Maybe she was just envious of that, the fact that Jae had managed to find something to be happy about.

“Its okay, Jae. We're all tired, its been a long mission. Your doing a great job, by the way.” Hav started to rub her forehead, she could feel the bandage still covering the gash on her forehead. Most of the injuries were well on their way to recovery. She still needed her wrists and ankles bandaged from where the rope had been. The skin around her throat was bruised and, of course, there was her head. Karash told her the bandage had to stay on for at least another day. It was going to be a scar, but that didn't really bother Havock.

Hav was absentmindedly touching the bandage when she noticed Jae staring up at her. “You really think so, Hav?”

Havock frowned and looked at her ASL, her hand dropped back to her knee. “Yeah.”

Jaenna blinked, her green eyes flicked from Hav to the ground a few times. Sighing she half-way stood turned and sat on the same step next to Havock.

Hav raised her eyebrow and looked at her friend, who at the moment was lost in thought. Following her gaze Hav could see that she was staring at a pile of building debris some of the others were using as a make-shift barricade in the street below them. “I have to tell you something, Hav. I...I don't know. Gah.”

Now Hav, was really confused. Her jaw dropped as she looked at her normally fairly articulate friend and wondered what in the hell was that hard to say. “Jae.”

Jaenna pulled her head up from her hands and looked over at Havock. They just looked at each other for a few minutes before Hav jumped. She glared down in the direction of the crash, one of the newer RAIDERS had dropped a large piece of scaffolding in the street. He sheepishly waved to the two girls then got back to work.

Hav shook her head at the noobie, then looked back over at Jae. Her eyes had never left Havock's face. Hav closed her blue eyes and took a deep breath, then nudged her friend in the shoulder. “Okay Jae, come on. What is it?”

“I like Rogueboy.”

Hav had to forcibly stop herself from saying duh? to her friend who was obviously trying to tell her something important. She could taste the blood from where she literally bit her tongue. “Okay, right. I have to say that I assumed that at this point.”

Jae rolled her eyes. “Thats not all I have to say, so shoosh.”

Hav smirked and waited for Jae to continue. “I like Rogueboy but I like you too.”

Hav looked at Jae, she was more confused than ever. She didn't say anything for a minute, wondering if Jae was going to continue. When it was obvious she was actually done, Hav blinked and a small smile formed on her lips. “Umm right. I like you too, we're friends. So, we like each other, heh.”

Jae rolled her eyes, groaned and slammed her head into her hands again. “No. no.” Her head snapped up. “Okay I'm just going to say this, cause if I don't its going to drive me crazy. I have feelings for you the same way I have feelings for RB, understand?”

Havock laughed out loud, then had to stifle the laughter when she looked at Jae and realized that it was not a joke. “Wait, what?”

“Am I interrupting something?” Hav turned her head slowly, her eyes lagging behind. Looking up she saw Ron standing over both of the girls. He handed Havock her helmet.

“Oh thanks, sir.” Hav had dropped her helmet when the barbarian grabbed her, Ron must have kept it for her.

Hav looked from Jae to Ron then ran a hand through her hair. “Umm, I'm going to head in the building, see if I can find a spot...you know...for later. Right, I'll see you guys later.” With that Havock got up and headed in the building behind her, holding her sniper rifle in one hand and her helmet in another. Leaving Jae to give Ron an update on the situation.

Once inside the building Hav found a good window to use as a base for the time being. She looked out the window towards the northern front of the village. Her brain could not process what Jae was telling her. It just made her head hurt more, she rubbed her scalp. Regardless of Hav's feelings, which she could not sort out at the moment, she couldn't help but wonder why Jae was telling her this now? She was with RB, it just didn't make any sense. Turning she laid her body against the wall and slid to the floor, closing her eyes to get some rest as she was originally ordered to do.

"Only an hour? That thing could be anywhere by now!" Jelly replied as he ran up to her. Saph shook her head as they started walking in the direction they were suppose to.

"Well, lets hope we can avoid them. But keep an eye out for anything." She replied with a bitter voice. It was obvious she was getting tired and annoyed. A few troopers complained about not going to the fight directly. She had half a mind to let them go AWOL and deal with it later. Yet, every body was needed doe the time and mission. Even those that are already lost won't be forgotten. They died and saved those still here.. In her small pouch she carried a couple of the dog tags from the fallen comrades. It wasn't easy, but war was always a mean business.

"I don't like this.." Brock replied as he stepped on a twig and a loud snap erupted from it. Everyone froze as some bird-like creatures flew out from the trees. The sound of silence was heard as heads looked in different directions. After a few moments they moved on. Working around the woods and trying to be as quiet as they could. Chatter was to a minimum and no one could blame that. Whatever the enemy was, it was enough to make everyone nervous.

"Why can't we just do something where it's against rebels and not huge wookie sized human things?" Brock said after about a thirty minute walk.

"That would seem like a dream compared to now.. But don't worry.. We'll get out of here. As soon as we reach our objective and scan out to see what's going on. We'll be informed what's needed next." Saphira replied. She was about to speak more when they heard some movement to their left. Twigs and branches snapped and Saphira held her hand out for everyone to fan out. Whatever was coming their way sure as heck wasn't going to be a friendly.

“Here is our new objective: Fortify the village and lock down the Northwest and western areas.  We have very little intel so who knows what we’ll be facing.  Joamer, as our heavy weapons guy,  I want you on the E-webs. We’ll set up a post and have Joamer and the mortar team provide cover fire while the rest of the squad moves in," said Kanderin.

The sky was a flat grey, like slate, and was spotted with thin cumulus clouds.  Rain was falling in a slow drizzle, turning the ground into a brown and green mess of mud and grass. The village stood shrouded in fog up a narrow path, surrounded by hills on either side.

The heavy artillery was still disassembled, Ananzi and Jori helped Joamer carry it up the hill.

“This is the E -Web (15), better firing control, targeting, shield generator, and auto-configure;  it also slices and dices!  We’ll have this bad boy set up in five minutes,” said Joamer, displaying his encyclopedic knowledge of heavy weapons.  He had a glint in his eyes and was rubbing his hands together.

“Always look on the bright side of life, eh?” replied Ananzi.

Anival was scanning the village with a pair of electro binoculars.

“Looks like nobody is home” he said.

“One can only hope,” replied Helena, “those guys smell like wet dog”

The squad moved cautiously up the hill, the mortar team trailing along behind them.  They reached a pair of stone columns that looked like they were once a gate, symbols from a language none of them knew were carved into it.  The village was as silent as a grave, save for groups of small birds on the roofs of the wooden houses that greeted them with their song.  The small dirt street was lined with the houses, which were in various states of disrepair.  Further ahead, there was a large pile of rocks and what looked like the remains of a bonfire in the middle of the street.  The hill began to slope down, giving a good view of the rest of the village.  A larger building, maybe the village hall or temple, stood at the bottom of the hill, the lower half covered in fog.

“I want the mortar team working here.  A bit farther you can set up that E-Web.  You’ll have a bit of cover from those rocks.  Joamer, I’ll give you a few of the mortar team to help you operate. From here you should have a commanding view of the village and will still be in range to hit anything that comes at us,” directed Kanderin.

The E-Web was put together quickly and everyone in the squad felt a bit more secure having that kind of fire power behind them.  Along with the mortar team, it was enough to stop most anything, although they had all learned not to underestimate their enemy.  The village was a prime location for snipers, mines, and traps of all kinds so they had their work cut out for them.

The squad split up, and began moving toward the sides of the village to secure it, their eyes peeled for the enemy.  RK and Ananzi moved to the west, looking for a suitable spot to fortify.
“I heard your father was a clone trooper, pretty famous one too” said RK casually.

“Do you believe everything you’ve heard?” snapped Ananzi.

“Hey, I didn’t mean any offense to you.  Sounds like he was a fine soldier.”

“He must have been, he was in the 501st, but I never met him. Most of the clones didn’t have much of a sense of identity, but my Dad did.  His commander gave his group names, called him Appo.”

“Well that’s quite a pedigree.  Seems like a lot to live up to though.”

“He casts a big shadow.  All I can do is be my own man.  I’m sorry I reacted like that, I guess it’s a hard thing for me.”

“Don’t worry about it. You seem to fit in fine here so let’s just keep our heads in the game.”

The rain started to fall harder.  Ananzi had an empty, hollow feeling in his stomach, it felt like they were being watched.

Joamer had finished setting up the E-WEB, then quickly slipped his rifle together. The targeting systems on the heavy blaster were impressive, but the scope on his rifle was better. He knew Raiders were down there somewhere, but with him on the high ground he felt it was his duty to alert anyone of a potential ambush.

Laying prone he keyed the scope on his DC-15 and began scanning the various buildings of the village. The rain did not make the effort easy, the ceaseless tink tink tink of the drops hitting his armor sounded loud to his ears. The rain was heavy, but he had a clear view of most of the village.

It was of a moderate size, it looked run down, old, wartorn, and deserted. Spotting something moving, he keyed the range finder and zoomed in. Spotting what must be the Raiders, he decided to ignore them until he saw old Rogue on his knees with another trooper in front of him. They shared a brief but somewhat passionate kiss. Shaking his head slightly he began to zoom out until the other trooper stood up and turned around, even at this distance the sea foam green eyes stood out in his scope.

Something came over him then, he knew the feeling was wrong. Having even the slightest feelings for someone he had only seen once was so different for him. He felt jealousy fill him, and for a brief instant the desire to shoot Rogue filled his mind, but only for an instant. Instead his training kicked in and he zoomed out, somehow in the minutes that passed he managed to scan the area around Wraith, as well as the green eyed girl.

A deep joy filled him, he had wondered every day if she had survived the ambush. Now seeing her so close, yet so far away brought him a mixture of emotions he had no name for.

As the time ticked by he kept scanning the village, over time he noticed she gave orders, so she must be an officer of some type, maybe even assistant squad leader. He knew Ron was SL of Raiders, he wondered who was the ASL. He wondered if this girl was it, he still wondered why it mattered to him. Long ago he had made the decision to be in for the career, he knew he would die in this armor, on some lonely planet, given some basic trooper funeral. He knew this, and accepted it.

But now...

He did not have an answer that suited him.

"Head out of the clouds, Jo." Kanderins voice cracked over the comlink. Swinging the rifle around he found Kand who was starring at him from the village, he lowered his A280 and scowled. Obviously he had been using the scope on his blaster to scan the hill.

"Sorry sir. Was.. I'm not sure what I was doing." Joamer replied quietly.

Shaking his head Kand turned around and motioned the squad forward again. Joamer leaned back down and began scanning the village once more. He tried to ignore the troubling thoughts creeping into his head, but every few minutes he would see something green and remembered that moment.

"Kand." He said minutes later. "Who is ASL of Raiders?"

"Is that who you were?... Never mind." Kand's voice came over the comlink. " Corporal Caldwin, I think. Callsign Starfruit, no idea on the first name. Keep your head in the game soldier, you are our eyes up there."

Joamer did not respond, Kand did not expect him to. He knew she was ASL now, the names fit her so well it was obvious. Sighing he leaned back down and kept scanning the village.

The rain continued to fall.

As the hour ticked close, he noticed the desire to go down into the village. Maybe it was the loneliness of being on this hill away from his squad, or maybe it was another desire.

As the hour passed, he still had not come up with a plan for either decision.

Anival looked around through the binoculars, seeing nothing he relaxed, and slumped his shoulders. He had a hole in his armor, and air was rushing through it.

When was the last time my armor was this badly shaken?

Sighing, Anival lifted his head to the surroundings.  Putting the binoculars down Anival walked in a patrol pattern, looking alertly at everything. Anival noticed a secure little area that would be great for a counter attack if they were attacked, Anival noted it, and kept walking.

Again Anival felt the need to scan the area below, Anival spotted a gungan and grimaced, he hated anything that wasn’t human, he was thankful for that in his squad. Suppressing an urge to shoot the entire clips into the gungan below, Anival went to see what Joamer had seen.

“Anything?” asked Anival.

Joamer didn’t answer.

“Hey, Joamer wake up buddy it’s time for your cookies.” mocked Anival in a smooth, loud voice.

He still didn’t reply. Anival walked up to his ear and yelled.

“You see anything?”

Joamer jumped. He looked Angry.

“What?!” he barked.

Anival  bit back a retort.

“I asked if you’ve seen anything out of the ordinary.”

“Oh,no, no.” muttered Joamer, Anival shook his head.

Anival looked down and headed to join the rest of the team, Joamer tapped him in the shoulder.

“12 clicks North by northwest.” said Joamer offering Anival the binoculars.

“I don’t-”  Anival stopped himself.

“Let’s keep an eye on it”

“Yeah, I’m gonna go help barricade, if it gets closer or if it turns out to be something worse, tell Kand.”

“Mhmm”

Anival walked off.

“Hey Ananzi” said Anival nodding at the new addition to wraith, in a strange way, Ananzi reminded Anival of himself, but he couldn’t place why.

A short while later, the squad had done a lot. Anival was thinking about lunch, his stomach rumbling when he heard something off in the distance, ignoring it Anival kept working to make the village as barbarian proof as possible.

What a joke thought Anival.

Again the noise came this time the squad looked up.

“Kand!” came Joamer’s Call.

Anival froze, a sense of foreboding filled the air, as he anticipated Joamer message.

Grahim studied the building that his ASL had said that he would be in. "Righteo, mam. Meesa get to it right away."

"Oh no no." Jae shook her head. "Wait for the signal. We are going to finish the fortification at the villages entrances and exits first, bud. Just go scout your nest for right now, and barricade it to your needs."

“Okeeday.” Grahim replied before going to the building, to examine it and barricade it to his liking. Grahim went inside the door to the large building and realised that there were no turbolift. Mesa isa going to use theysa damn stairs and the worst part is that itsa the forth and highest level mesa shall be on. Grahim thought and started to climb the stairs. When Grahim had made it to the top floor, he barricaded all windows except for three. With those three windows he could see everything he needed to see because his back was watched by another squad so that was not his problem. Grahim saw that RB was barricading a house too. Grahim looked through the three windows he hadn’t barricaded and decided which he was going to use because he couldn’t run around then he would become a target for sure. So Grahim saw where RB chose to look, then he chose a window on the right side. Mesa have una good view here mesa can look forward and to the right and itsa in the shadows. So mesa won’t be visible. Grahim thought and started to walk down the stairs to help people on the street level. When Grahim was back on the ground he saw that Karash was running around looking for someone.

“Whosa isa yousa looking for, Kar?”

“I am looking for Ron, care to join?”

“Yesa why not.”

“If you go west I go east.”

“Okeeday.” Grahim went to the western side of town and used the time to go and check how RB was doing. Grahim went up the three story building where RB was supposed to be. When Grahim got to the top floor he saw that Rogue was placing his sniper rifle on the floor at the window that he was going to use.

“Hideo RB, yousa need help?”

“No I want to fix this how I like it so if you please could go so I can concentrate.”

“Okeeday mesa isa going” Grahim said and walked down the stairs and looked out the window and saw that Karash was coming back to were they had talked. Grahim went back there.

“Couldn’t wesa just use the comlink?”

“Why didn’t I think of that”

“Mesa don’t know”

“Yeah shush” Karash said and made it clear that Grahim should be silent. “Ron, Where the heck are you?” Karash was silent for a while, then he said. “Well SF want you to come back here she seems to have some problem so come back please.” Karash said. “I found him so lets get back and tell Star.”

Joamer breathed slowly, his fingers moving over the dials on his rifle.

The calculations it took to hit a target this far away were for the most part guesses. You could have the best computer in the world making the corrections second by second, but when it came down to it, it was all luck. Rubbing his finger against the trigger guard he squeezed ever so gently on the firing stud.

A nearly silent thud echoed from the modified DC-15, it sent the invisible bolt hundreds of yards down range, to inevitable miss the barbarian scout perched on top of a hill four klicks away.

The squad did not see the scout, he doubted anyone in the village did. With the rain it was hard to find him even with his scope.

His comlink crackled a second time, the voice he had been ignoring nearly shouted. "What is it?" Kand said, the SL did notice from his vantage point how Joamer was laying, so thankfully no explanation was needed.

"Scout, four klicks north by northwest. He's retreating." Joamer said quietly.

"No one makes all the shots." Kand replied.

Joamer only grunted.

"Raiders, this is Wraith. Found a scout north by northwest." Kand said into the tactical channel. Only static answered him. He tried again with the same message.

"Joamer, you've got the high ground, see if you can get through." Kand said into the squads frequency.

"Raiders, this is Wraith. Do you copy, over?" Only static.

"Short range is not jammed, but anything over half a klick is. Impressive." RK said as he walked up.

"Don't count on it, half your message was static to me." Joamer said.

"RK, Anival. Meet up with Joamer. RK take position with the E-WEB, Joamer and Ani go find Raiders and inform them of the situation. Keep your eyes open, and stay together." Kand said, this time Joamer caught most of the transmission.

It took RK and Anival a few minutes to make it to Joamers position. Unlocking the barrel from his rifle, he slipped both parts into the harness on his back and picked up his DLT-20a. Nodding to a scowling RK he walked down the hill with Anival next to him.

Entering the somewhat fortified village the duo quickly took to different sides of the street and began covering each other, as one would make a run to another spot. It took them longer to reach the location Raiders were supposed to be this way, but one could never be to careful.

A ceaseless tink tink tink woke Havock from a somewhat restful sleep, her ingrained sense of wrong caused her to go from sleep to awake in an instant. The room was almost dark, twilight had enveloped the land. She could fell something was on the other side of the wall. Sliding back into a dark corner she pulled her legs under her and drew both her DC-15s pistols.

One shape entered, the white storm trooper armor stood out, but it meant nothing in this place. A few seconds later another shape entered, wearing the same armor but with no helmet. His bald head stood out, as did the rifle held at the ready in front of him. Moving quieter then a shadow she positioned herself behind the second man and placed the barrel of one pistol to his neck, the other she pointed at the first figure.

"Now, no funny business. Or your friend here gets it." Havock said softly.

Instead of spinning around Anival calmly lowered his rifle and turned around, both arms outstretched. The look on his face made Joamer want to break out laughing, it was a mixture of anger and disbelief. Joamer he kept his arms on his rifle, he doubted whoever was behind would take kindly to having his arms outstretched.

"Now, which of you are in charge? And why are you here?" Havock said again, the barrel of her pistol pressed into Joamer's neck a little bit more.

"Wraith Squad recon." Anival said.

"Nice try, do better." She replied.

"Restlin, Joamer T. Imperial designation Alpha zulu 1293-165. Rank Senior Sergeant." Having a glint in his eyes Joamer added " We ran out of thin mink cookies, you got any spare? I really love those things."

Seconds passed before Anival and whoever was behind them burst into laughter. Lowering the pistols she stepped back and Joamer turned around.

The young female looked up as she holstered both her pistols, a bandage covered part of her head. She was tan, about 5'6 and looked tired.

"Lance Corporal Havock, at your service. So what can we do for you today?"

"Looking for one of the two folks in charge, we lost communication with you twenty minutes ago. Short range sometime after that." Joamer said.

"Out back, I think. Least that was where they were awhile ago." Havock said, she turned around and went back to the window, she half stumbled as she laid down.

Making their way to the back of the building Joamer and Anival meet up with Ron who was busy neck deep in a datapad.

"Nothing ever changed." Joamer muttered.

Ron began drawing his sidearm before he looked up. His face instantly went into a scowl.

"Did you not die a long time ago?" Came his reply.

"Close, but not close enough." Joamer said with a smile. Both men clasped arms and chuckled, Anival mumbled quietly about respecting leadership.

"What brings a former Raiders to see me?" Ron said, as he stepped back.

"Communication breakdown. We lost contact with you twenty minutes ago. Short range squad a few minutes later." Joamer reported.

"I've got my ASL on it, we noticed it as well. She's over in that building, see if she's found anything new."

Nodding Joamer signaled Anival to mingle and walked to the indicated building, stepping inside he found the ASL of Raiders half buried in wires and communication gear.

"I'm no commtech, but I am pretty sure the wires going inside that box." Joamer said after a few moments.

Pulling her head out of the tangle Caldwin scowled, thinking it was another member of her squad. Seeing a bald trooper in wet armor smiling from the doorway caused her to scowl even harder. Plugging in the last wire from the contraption she was building she smirked as the screen came to life.

"Wraith, this is Raiders. Do you copy, over?" She said into the joint channel.

"Raiders, this is Wraith. We copy. You see my messenger boys yet?" Kand's voice came from the commlink.

"They just got here." She said. Kand mumbled something so low the commlink did not pick all of it up, it sounded like and you can keep them.

Shaking her head she stood up and waited. Frowning slightly, Joamer snapped to attention, and saluted. Waiting a few seconds longer then was necessary, she gave a quick salute and said "As you were."

"I should be going, ma'am." Joamer said as he turned to leave. Frowning Caldwin said "Jaenna, my friends call me Jaenna. Or star, it's my callsign. You call me ma'am again and I might shoot you." Joamer turned and extended his hand " Name is Joamer."

They gripped hands, her eyes narrowed as he did not wince. Then frowned when he smiled.

Rogue was fortunate for the building he had been given; it was a school with a bell tower. The bell tower was reached through a series of nasty twists and turns, the school itself was pretty small.  The school was perhaps only able to fit about a hundred students, comfortably. RB used his vibro-bayonet to make some improvements to the school’s wooden steps; cutting the sides of five stairs strategically placed after the landings. This would make anyone coming up (or going down) vulnerable to falling through and breaking a leg, or getting stuck on the stairs depending on where they place their other foot.

Currently Rogue was making some improvements to one of his detpacks. Cutting open the thin layer of protectant and removing the putty like explosive gave Rogue two smaller explosives with only one detonator. Inside one of the classrooms RB was able to find many shoes inside small cubbyholes, removing two pairs he took out the laces. Rummaging through the desk of the educator Rogue was unable to find what he was looking for, so he searched through other classrooms until he found two lighters.

Insuring that both were full was difficult but he managed to come up with them. Pushing down the child proof and using tape to hold it down insured that it would not interrupt with the plan. Running his thumb over the flint wheel caused the lighter to ignite, creating a small red-orange flame. The smiling Rogueboy then taped it under a stair, using two of the four shoe laces Rogue was able to fasten one end around the bottom of the hand rail. The other end he ran across the length of the stair through the other rail, making a knot Rogue ran the lace through the flint wheel. Using his hand RB pushed the rope, causing it to go with him and starting the flame. Quickly blowing it out Rogue muttered some incoherent babble to himself about the rope being too tight, and how anyone walking slowly will feel it before it goes off. Praying that anyone who comes up would be running Rogue placed half the detpack under the stair.

Quickly Rogue turned on his comlink and notified his squad not to take the staircase, or if they did to pay extreme close attention. RB was not so simple as to make the school is tomb, or final resort; they would most likely have to retreat to some other building. Using his vibro-knife Rogue removed the bell’s rope and climbed out of the tower, walking on the tiles Rogue fastened one end of it around a pillar and the other leaning off the side of the building. It was the perfect height, not too high enough to cause him serious injury, and high enough that anyone jumping would have to be really tall; even for those barbarians.

The last thing for Rogue to do was set up some slug proof, blaster proof, and crossbow proof material to use as a barricade. Inside the school there was not much  to use so RB had to bring up some student desks and flip them over so the weak metal face the outside. It wasn’t much but it should hold for a few shots. Satisfied Rogue stood at his perch and began to glimpse in all directions. RB spotted two dark figures moving between the houses, however they were coming from the wrong direction. Turning on his comlink Rogue tried to contact Ron but there was only static. Adjusting the rifle for the distance of about three hundred meters, RB looked at the flag pole where a green flag was hanging lazily.

Looking through the scope, Rogue quickly noticed that the two guys were imperial soldiers. No one in their right mind would wear white armour on this planet. Raising his rifle RB chuckled at the sheer stupidity of the two. Sneaking into an area that you know is controlled by friend lies was perhaps the quickest way to get friendly fucked. Now all Rogue could do was wait, but more importantly look in the proper direction and listen to the pitter patter of the rain pelting the roof of the tower.

Havock turned her head, her eyes were still closed as she leaned against the wall in the short building. She didn't need to be high up, her skills with a sniper rifle were lacking the pistols at her sides were much more reliable. She smirked as she remembered the Wraiths who came by to visit earlier.

She heard a noise coming from the main entrance that led down to the street and popped open one eye to look around. The room was very dark and smelled musty. It looked like an old office building that had not been used in quite some time. Havock watched as a figure came through the doorway and headed right for her position.

Hav smirked as Ron sat down next to her, his helmet was off and his datapad was out. Typical. Havock took a deep breath and rubbed her eyes to wake up then looked at her SL.

“Your supposed to be resting.” Ron muttered without looking up from the datapad.

Havock rolled her eyes, Ron had gotten more overprotective with every minute this mission had continued. “I was, sir.”

Ron looked up from the datapad with a frustrated look on his face. “Really? Cause from what I heard you were sneaking up on Wraith soldiers and catching them before they could sneak up on you.” He smirked slightly. “Nice work, by the way.”

“Heh, thanks.” Havock looked around, still trying to clear her head. The pounding had gone down in her skull but there was still a dull ache in her forehead right around the gash. “Jae got the com working again I guess?”

Ron nodded without looking up from the datapad again. “Check it out.” He reached over and put the datapad in front of Havock so she could see. She looked at the picture, which appeared to be of one of the AA guns that had been abandoned in the city.

She looked up at Ron, who kept looking at her expecting a reaction. “Gee, thanks Ron, but I got one just like it last Life Day.”

Ron pursed his lips in a sour expression before hitting a button with his thumb. The screen zoomed and Havock could see the detpacks set up in key spots on the AA gun.

Havock smirked and looked back up at her amazingly patient squad leader. “Oh, right. How do those work exactly?”

Ron retracted the datapad back to his lap. “Its on a low frequency emitter. I just push these buttons here on the datapad, and no more AA gun.”

The com crackled to life. “Oi boss, you there?”

Ron glanced over at Havock then set the datapad down. “Yeah Rogue, go ahead.”

“We still have an E-web that needs to get set up, the things just sitting in the middle of the road right now.”

Ron frowned and thought about that for a moment then turned to Havock. “Feel up to a walk?”

Hav shrugged. “Sure.”

They walked out into the street and not 50 meters from the entrance was, in its parts, an E-Web.

The com crackled again. “You guys should set it up somewhere soon, before it gets any later.”

Havock shook her head. “Why can't we just set it up where it is?”

“In the middle of the road, are you nuts?!? Its a repeating blaster!” Rogueboy said more but he was muttering and Havock couldn't make it out.

“Any other suggestions, Lance Corporal?” Ron turned to Havock, with genuine interest not sarcasm.

Havock glared up in the direction of the tower Rogue was perched with his sniper rifle then turned her eyes back to Ron. “Why don't we set it up where I was already, its close to the main streets and would be redundant any higher with the snipers set up.”

“Wow boss, they can be taught.”

Ron smirked, “alright Hav and I will get this set up, thanks for the heads up Rogue.”

They carried the the pieces into the office building and started to assemble the pieces so they looked like a functioning gun. Havock noticed that every time she picked up anything remotely heavy Ron was watching her. Not in a checking out way, more in that over protective making sure she wasn't hurting herself way.

Ron and Havock got the gun all put together, he was checking the clearance on the window when Rogueboy's voice was in their ears again. “Sir, does Hav know how to fire that thing?”

Ron raised his eyebrows and looked at Havock, she just shook her head in the negative. “I'll go over it with her.”

“Oi, if I may. Just watch the power, its got a huge battery, and you can control that. And don't let the bloody thing overheat, you really don't want to do that.”

Ron watched Havock, to make sure she understood, with a nod he called in an affirmative to Rogueboy.

“I think this is all ready, you get back in that corner and rest. I have some more stuff to check on before all hell breaks loose.”

Havock stood with her arms crossed, ready to argue. Then decided against it. “Yes, sir.” She sank back down into the floor and pulled out her own datapad, technically she was still resting just learning how to use this crazy looking gun now in the room with them at the same time.

“Life’s too short; gather happiness when and where you can.” Has been Rogue’s motto since he was sixteen and why wouldn’t it be? The majority of his life he had spent with one foot in the grave, and it didn’t look it would change anytime soon.

Reflecting back on Starfruit, Rogueboy wondered if he would be happy with her. Any doubts he had should have been taken care of before he asked her out, but he was expecting her to say no. Expecting the girl to say no always puts your mind at ease, because you don’t really care if you look like a fool because you’re tired of wondering what the person is going to think when they find out.

Rogueboy’s mind turned back to the thought of dating Starfruit, she was definitely attractive, smart, and she knew how to take the initiative. The first kiss was a good example of that, and there will definitely be many more. A sudden doubt crossed his thoughts; what exactly did she see in RB? He wasn’t particularly attractive one of his best features being his eyes; however he seemed to have the knack to actually listen to people on top of rarely telling lies.

Dismissing self doubts had always been easy for Rogueboy he just had to focus on the task at hand. Looking at the small sack of detonators Rogue contemplated setting up the explosives to bring down the school. Knowing it would be unwise and that it stemmed from RB’s constant fear of someone sneaking up on him while he was sniping which had been created during the Euceron games a few years ago. There had been a nasty melee fight on the catwalk above the games; obviously Rogue had been the survivor.

A dark speck darted between two relatively small stands of trees. The Raider’s sniper raised his rifle and peered through his scope keeping a watchful eye on the trees. “I believe I have some movement.” Rogue said into his comlink.

“Friendly or hostile?” One of the trooper’s asked, most likely in reference to a possible Wraith drill or something similar.

“Well I didn’t see too much of a it, however it wasn’t wearing Imperial whites. I’m going to go with hostile on this one.” Rogue responded.

“Get visual confirmation before you open fire.” Ron said before continuing. “I don’t want to nail any stray army elements or alpha scouts.”

“Yes sir.” Was RB’s response as he wished the person in question would move to a more visible area.
Using the sniper’s scope Rogueboy zoomed out just a bit and caught the large shape of a barbarian lying on his stomach inching forward. “Definitely hostiles, Not too sure on their numbers.” Rogueboy zoomed farther out of the scope and saw many more of the barbarians. “I’m going to put their numbers at approximately twenty, from what I could see. Permission to fire?”

When it came to sniping one should always pick off the officers/leaders thereby reducing the morale of the enemy and having the common soldier tripping all over themselves. With the barbarians it’s going to be harder mainly because they aren’t your traditional army; they don’t salute each other, and they don’t wear differing uniforms or have ranks attached. However there was a subtle difference in the enemy they were barbarians so most likely those wearing precious metals as arm bands had some sort of rank. There were others that had feathers of some sort of bird in their hair; this can also denote some form of prestige.

“Permission granted, let’s get ready for the hell storm guys.” Ron said.

Looking through his scope Rogue decided to pick off a guy who had many arm bands and a feather. Swinging the rifle ever so slightly to the right, the cross hairs pin pointing on where the man’s heart should be. Ever so gently Rogueboy squeezed the trigger.

The handshake between Jae and Joamer had lasted longer then was necessary, but it had turned into a battle of wills.

You get used to the idea of being the only one with cybernetic appendages, but when you do meet something happens, some deep rooted thing triggers and you want to see if you are the best.

The grips got tighter as the seconds passed, Joamer could feel the warning systems start to kick in, without his helmet on he could not get an accurate reading of the damage that was being done, but he could imagine the motors in the hand section were close to breaking point.

Having one of the most advanced setups available, he imagined Stars would be close to the limit as well. Neither broke off though, neither even showed signs of wanting to.

"I believe I have some movement." Stars comlink crackled slightly, the distinctive voice of Rogue could be heard.

"Friendly or hostile?" Someone said a moment later, Joamer did not recognize the voice.

Whatever was said was lost as the battle of wills continued, though both of them released the grips slightly.

“Definitely hostiles," Rogue said. Joamer stopped listening, spinning on the balls of his feet he made for the door as he slapped his comm link.

"We have incoming." He said into his squads frequency. The seconds ticked by, he could hear the blaster fire start to sound farther out. His worry level started climbing as he got no response.

"Nothing here, alls clear." Helena said over the longer range channel. "Help them mop up, we will hold position here."

Joamer was suddenly shoved out of the way as Star pushed through the door. "Look alive, we have incoming. Snipers take positions and open fire. Havock, get on that E-WEB and stay frosty. You, what is your name?" She said as she marched over towards Anival.

"Anival, ma'am." He said.

"Take position in this building here." She said, turning on her hill she pointed a finger at Joamer and motioned him up on the roof.

Nodding briefly he stepped into the building and made for the roof. Swinging his DLT-20a around his back he unclasped both pieces of his DC-15 as he mounted the steps and walked to the second story. Locking the barrel and body of the rifle together he stepped out on top a balcony and looked up. Luckily the roof was low hanging, propping his rifle against the wall he planted his foot on the railing and pulled himself up onto the roof. Reaching down he gripped the tip of the rifle and pulled it up, then he shuffled to the remains of a chimney and keyed the power up sequence.

He flipped night vision on and searched for targets. He then remembered to change frequencies, turning the dial a few clicks he heard Rogue's voice.

"North-north east location, hundred yards out."

Joamer grunted as he angled that direction, obviously Rogue had been watching his ascent. Selecting a different zoom he found them and zoomed in. Breathing slowly he flipped the power settings for a hair over short range, and sighted a target. He saw the end result of one of the barbarians who had many arm bands and a feather who came up against a sniper bolt. He aimed for the one to the left, mentally making the calculation he sighted for the neck area. He knew the chest was tough, he thought the neck would be softer.

A soft thump was heard as he squeezed the trigger, half a second later the throat area of the barbarian exploded and he slumped to the ground. Instantly the remaining attackers stood up and charged.

"Least we got two." Joamer muttered, he swung the barrel around and sighted another target. He aimed for the knee of one of the barbarians and squeezed the trigger, just as his shot caused the knee cap to fold backward, another shot nearly took off the barbarians right shoulder. The end effect caused him to cartwheel to the right and land at a very bad angle.

"Mesa shoot dee." Someone said a second later. Joamer's eyes narrowed as he sighted another target.

"Means he got one as well." Someone else said into the open comm link.

"To your left, by those two trees." Rogue said, angling slightly Joamer sighted another one and pulled the trigger. The power settings were still set to high, so the resulting impact tore a four inch diameter hole in the center of the barbarians chest. It took him a full two seconds to realize this before he slumped to the ground.

"They are inside the village." Rogue said, the sound of blaster rifles and the E-WEB coming to life nearly drowned out the comm link.

The skirmish keep going like this for a while, Joamer lost track of the time as he only sighted one target after another. Like all things it ended, when the sound of the blasters stopped, and the sound of the E-web stopped, there was only silence.

Moment passed before his comm link crackled again, "Report." Ron said.

"Alls clear up here." Rogue said, Joamer followed with "Clear."

More clears sounded out a few seconds later.

Changing frequencies Joamer said "Attack stopped, you guys still alright?"

He was met by static.

Standing up he changed the zoom and pointed the rifle at the other end of the village. He saw RK on the hill with the E-web, and one or two others on the rooftops. Everything seemed to be going as normal until he spotted movement in the trees. A long line of shapes hovered on the edge of the treeline, a second later he heard the sound of the E-web open fire.

He stopped counting when he spotted forty, he jumped from the roof and landed on the balcony. Rushing through the second story he took the stairs two at a time.

"Anival! Wraith are under attack, get moving now!"

He did not wait for a reply from anyone as he picked up speed. He knew though, that he was probably already to late to die by their sides.

Anival ran past the gungan suppressing an urge to punch him, instead he shouldered past him, he knew their would be repercussions, he scowled and ran faster. Anival caught up to Joamer, and looked at the spot were wraith was, he couldn’t see anything, he switched to infrared.

“All I can see is two dwindling heat signatures and about ten others, some are clustered together not moving, maybe wraith, the rest are charging and some, falling.” Noted Anival.

“Maybe we aren’t too late.”

“I sure hope not.” breathed Anival.

Anival heard a yell and the e-web stopped. They both ran faster.

They ran onto the hill in time to meet a small group of barbarians, Anival fired his blaster.

Just twelve?
Thought Anival, I would have sent more, out of the corner of his eye Anival saw Joamer shot his blaster.

Joamer!” said Anival as he saw one of the attackers flee.

“I see him” replied Joamer, “cover me.”

Anival started firing randomly.

“I have to reload in about twenty seconds, shoot already!”

Joamer Howled.

“Stupid son of a-” he cut himself off, taking a bolt out of his shoulder.

“He got away!”

Joamer got up an took his fury out on the rest of the attackers, Anival reloaded his clip.

It was over as fast as it had begun.

“Scouts?” suggested Anival.

“Probably” muttered Joamer checking his shoulder.

“Let’s look for the others.” They stood up.

A sharp intake of breath was all the was audible, two blood smears stained the floor, as if bodies had been dragged off.

“Either they’re hurt or dead.”

“Let’s hope it was a friendly that dragged ‘em off.”

They headed toward the two stains, more bolts came flying and they took cover.

The bolts stopped pouring over them, they got up, nothing came towards them, but when they tried to make it to the stains the bolts came flying again.

Anival was confused, why would they keep them away from the stains?

"Least we got two." Someone said on the op commlink as Grahim was aiming on one of the barbarians. The barbarian had got Grahim’s attention because he had a necklace that had trooper fingers. !Itsa looks like una trophy necklace! Grahim thought and pulled the triiger wich made the barbarians head to pop.

"Mesa shoot dee." Grahim said.

"Means he got one as well." A third person said. Grahim took aim for another barbarian.

“Anival, Wraith is under attack. Move it!” The other Wraith member said, Grahim didn’t have to think twice he heard that the one that wasn’t Anival was running when he talked on the commlink.

“Ron, what should we do?” SF yelled on the comm. There were a uncertainty even though they knew that they would get attacked.

“Grahim stay were you are, same for you Rogue.” Ron ordered. “Beretz you will be their eyes on the ground.”

“Could I at least have to hide in one of the buildings? I would like to have some cover.” Beretz asked.

“Of course you can’t.” Ron answered with a large portion of irony. “The rest of the squad on me, we shall go and help Wraith to push out the barbarians. RB I leave command to you while Star and I is over there.” Grahim looked after the squad as they started to move towards the fighting on the other side.

“Okay, Grahim make sure you have sight over the entrance” Rogue said. “Beretz you have a E-web down there that you can use the squad couldn’t carry it with them.”

“Mesa see at least duey dozen barbarians in the forest” Grahim said. “Do mesa have permission to shoot?”

“If there is a Barbarian with lot of armbands and one or more feathers in the hair you have permission to take him out” RB answered. Grahim looked at the barbarians. !Isa there una barbarian with feathers and armbands! Grahim thought when he saw a barbarian that had two feathers and a lot of armbands. Grahim took aim for the man. Grahim breathed in and aimed on the place where the barbarian’s head where. It felt as the world was slowing down for this shoot. Grahim pulled the trigger and saw the man’s head penetrated by the projectile.

“Hesa isa down, una reason for himsa?” Grahim asked.

“I think he was the ’’squad leader’’.” RB answered.

“Okeeday, theysa barbarians have went hiding in thatsa forest, mesa can’t see themsa any longer.” Grahim said as he ducked down for cover so a sniper wouldn't be able to retaliate. Unfortunately for Grahim he felt a slight sting in his top left ear, he touched it with his hand and he saw blood on it.

“Mesa isa hit!” Grahim said in the comm.

“Did you see where the fire came from? Where have you been hit? ” RB asked.

“Nosa mesa didn’t. Half mesas left ears is lying on the feetwalken.” Grahim answered.

“Can you stop the bleeding, and what does feetwalken mean?” RB asked.

“Mesa has stopped the bleeding, itsa mean floor in basic mesa think.” Grahim answered.

Ron turned his head towards the gunfire behind him.  It didn't take long to make the connection that they were under attack, but Joamer's voice over his comlink was a welcome confirmation of the fact.

Ron packed up his equipment as quickly as he could; reinserted his datapad back into his Titian v1 armor chestplate and moved his hand over to his wrist to power his suit...

Dammit.  He had forgotten once again that these suits were the standard ones.  He had no power except in his helmet and temporary chestplate (and those had been three hour jobs in and of themselves).  So instead Ron reached for the switch on the back of his helmet; blinking quickly as the visual screen inside his helmet flashed on.  Now equipped with area schematics, heat seeker, and power levels, Ron rushed off towards the hub of the fighting.  He had in his hand only a blaster pistol (his E-11 had been discarded earlier in one of the previous skirmashes), but this was Ron's area of finese, these blaster pistols, and he weilded it with no less courage than if he had been equipped with an assult gun and more than enough ammo.

Ron rounded a corner to come face to face with Beretz Sonok.  He was sweating profusely, bleeding in more than one area and from the smell of it had soiled himself.  Ron pulled him down as another line of fire came towards them, hiding behind a large embedded bolder for shelter.

"What's what, trooper?" Ron said.

Beretz looked at him blankly, as if he hadn't heard a thing Ron said.  Ron grabbed Beretz by the shoulders to calm him down.

"I need a report, Beretz.  What's going on?" he said, this time slower and directly to Beretz.

But Beretz just shook his head and flung himself away from Ron.  Ron grabbed for him again, but missed.  Beretz jumped from the bolder and ran out in the open, screaming as he did so and firing multiple shots into the foliage around them.

"Private!" Ron yelled.  "For your own sake..."

An explosion not fifteen feet away swept Ron off his feet.  A cloud of earth bubbled up from the ground and rained mud and dirt all over Ron's body as it lay outstreched on the ground.  He blinked and sneezed, wiping away mud and roots from his helmet.  He could tell that he was positively filthy, but that mattered little compared to the damage he could have suffered if he was only a few feet closer to that explosion.

Ron slowly got up and hid once more behind the rock.  He knew he'd have to break for more stable cover soon- he got a visual of a few areas that seemed likely, but by far the safest area was a good thirty feet away...

Ron braced himself and bolted for the area.  It was a dip in the ground, with debris facing the enemy line, and a safe exit back to the Raiders and Wraith combined areas.  As he ran he could hear all sorts of objects following him.  High speed rocks, bullets, and other projectiles.

He dove for cover and made it safely.  Ron removed his helmet and placed it on the ground, seeing for the first time just how dirty it actually was.  As he pulled at his canteen for a drink of some kind of energizing fluid standardly passed down through the ranks of the army, he reasoned to himself that the fighting had subdued immensely from the beginning of when it started.

"Senior Sergeant Ron, do you copy?"

Ron heard the low pitched frequency erupt from his helmet, and so picking it up gingerly, he donned his helmet once more to respond.

"Ron, sir... are you there?"

"I hear you loud and clear, Jae." Ron replied, easily identifying his Assistant Squad Leader's voice.  "Can you tell me what the hell is going on right now?  I'm under heavy fire on the west side of this hell hole we're in and I'm starting to get a feeling that there's no end to these barbarians!"

Ron turned around and peeked over a rock as he waited for an answer, just in time to see Rogueboy wave to him from his sniping spot.  Ron waved back, ducked as he suddenly came under fire, and prepared himself to make yet another mad dash towards Rogueboy.  Maybe he could make some sense out of this mess.
