Joamer was laying prone, bolts from blasters and crossbows were flying over his head every few seconds. His nerves were shot, and he was getting angry. Snarling he shouted "I don't have time for this!"

Reaching into his belt he pulled out two class A thermal detonators, grinning while he set the timer he tossed both of them over his head towards the general direction of the on coming fire. Dragging Anival to his feet who had covered his ears he went full out in the opposite direction.

"Twenty meters." Joamer said.

"What do you mea..?" Anival was cut off as Joamer grabbed his shoulder and spun him around a wall.

"I really hope this is far enough away." A second later a massive explosion sounded in the direction of the hill. A few seconds later the sound of what he thought was the E-web exploded. Shaking his head to clear the ringing in his ears he lurched away from the wall and continued to run towards the Wraith's last known location.

A thought occurred to him suddenly, I really hope our people had dragged the survivors away from that hill.

During the few minutes it took to get back to the main building the village had become silent. Joamer signaled a halt and crept forward slowly. He could not tell if anyone inside was friendly, but he heard murmurs. Stopping at the door he thought a moment before nodding to himself slowly.

Clear and loud he said "Wraith." He brought the barrel of his DLT-20s up and aimed towards the doorway. The seconds ticked by and he begun to feel fear. Maybe they were the only ones left.

"Pride." The simple word caused him to exhale the breath he did not know he had been holding. Standing up he tapped Anival on the shoulder and walked into the building. Instantly three blaster muzzles aimed for his chest, they lowered a few seconds later.

Joamer lowered his own blaster and stepped aside so Anival could enter. He looked around the room before taking position by the window, RK was laying on the ground, a nasty welt on the back of his head. Helena was kneeling over him mumbling to herself. Ananzi was kneeling near the back, and Kand was frowning at maps in the center of the room. He did not bother reporting, they already knew what had happened.

"RK was jumped from behind. Luckily Ana shot the single barbarian and then half drug RK away. None have entered the village yet, so we can get to our positions and use the fortifications. Luckily we got them in place, we have sniper spots on four of the roof tops, all with fall back positions to this building. The street is lined with explosives on all sides. They are detonated from the remotes by that wall. RK will be up on his feet in a few minutes. We need Anival and you to go to the roof and find a spot." Helena said. Nodding slowly Joamer motioned Anival and they made for the stairs.

Making it to the roof, Joamer kept low and jumped the small distance to the next rooftop. Finding the barricade he looked around. It looked solid enough, some sort of wooden construction with small holes set every few feet, perfect for a sniper position. He looked around, the force that looked to be attacking was holding back. He looked left to where Anival had taken position, his location seemed to be a half circle created with old desks and a few dressers.

Hunkering down he clicked his comm link to the squad frequency and said softly "Where is the other E-web? We lost the one on the hill, that was not the best spot for the thing."

"I have it here, we put it in the back of this house. Last line of defense, could not board up this back room so we decided to put it here." Ananzi said a few moments later.

Nodding slowly Joamer picked up his rifle and waited.

Anival waited patiently beside Joamer. Anival wasn’t a great shot, but he was fairly competent.

Anival spotted something in a distance it looked like a body. Anival took out a pair of binoculars, and looked.

“Joamer look.” said Anival handing Joamer the binoculars.

“Kand.”

“What?”

“Where’s the mortar team?”

Kand held his breath.

“We got separated when we were attacked. Why?”

“I think we found them they are shaken but alive.”

“I can’t get to them right now” replied Kand, sounding defeated.

Anival thought for a while.

“I can.” Turning to Joamer, Anival said, “Cover me.”
Anival made his way to the fallen mortar team, going from building to building, he finally got to his destination after what seemed like an eternity.

The building they were in was a joke, it was one of the few that the squad hadn’t barricaded. It looked as if it was merely shut down for a holiday, no markings betrayed it, except for the tired looking soldiers on the ground.

“You made it” stated Anival.

“Barely” muttered someone on the floor, it looked like he had received a bolt to the arm, it hung limply to his side.

“Joamer, can I take them over to where the squad is?”

Anival heard  two thuds.

“Ok now you can go.”

“Lets get out of this poor excuse for a shelter.”

“Ahem, there’s a problem sir.”

Anival turned around.

“What is it?”

The soldier motioned at his legs.

“How many of you can go by yourselves?”

All but two lifted their hands.

Anival sighed, and walked to a fallen soldier, picking him up, Anival noticed as he winced.

“Your lucky, we have two medics.”

They made their way slowly, painfully slow.

“Anything Joamer?”

“Just……….about………….and…………..picking up………….”

Anival barely understood the message but he sighed and kept moving, spotting the building Anival hurried.

“Kand, their here, but two are wounded, I’m taking half to the roof, better range.”

Anival carefully put the soldier he was caring on the floor.
Kand nodded, and started to tend one of the injured soldiers.

“Come on.” They followed Anival.

“Corporal.”

Anival turned around, Kand had never called him by rank, unless introducing him.

“Sir?” asked Anival in a neutral tone.

“Next time tell me what your doing before you do it.”

“Yes sir.” replied Anival and walked out.

When they were positioned in the roof Anival looked at the sky.

“We need an extra hand.” came the voice from one of the mortar troop.

“Anival, help them.”

Anival walked over and started setting out their things.

“Here” said on of the soldiers handing Anival a mortar launcher. “It fell from one of our comrades, we held it for him.”

Anival didn’t say anything, he just set it down, and nodded.

Anival noticed a bend behind some of the building it was perfect for a fallout spot, it was sheltered, and had room for a covered retreat if the need arose.

Havock was a few paces behind Ron walking through the rubble filled streets. The buildings around her varied in size and need for restoration. From the moment they stepped into the village it looked as though many of them had not been used by civilized people in a long time. The paint on the walls was peeling off in places.

Havock had to sidestep some squishy material littered on the floor, looked like what was left of a fruit stand. A random shot swished past Havock's helmet causing her to duck and slip on a piece of rotten fruit her hand slamming into the building to keep from falling.

“I swear Hav, you really hate giving me a break don't you?” Karash was only a step behind Havock as they walked. The medic didn't want harm to come to Hav, but he was tired of her getting hurt on this mission. “Don't worry, I brought extra supplies just for you, Havvy.”

Havock straighted as she pulled out her DC-15 pistols. “Oh Karash, you are so very thoughtful. But how about a new tactic?” She paused and turned to look at the PFC. “Havock's not going to get shot, kidnapped, or injured in anyway. How's that sound for a change?”

Karash shook his head in disbelief. “If only Hav, if only.”

“Pfft.” Havock turned back around. She could see Ron ahead of her, but he seemed to be turned around. He was waving in Rogue's direction as an explosion rocked the group, Havock reached out and grabbed Raelene's arm before she fell.

“Thanks Hav.” Rae spoke as she held her head and got her footing back.

Havock nodded and kept going, she ducked behind some rubble on the side of the street. More shots both from blasters and crossbow bolts ricocheted against the rubble and the buildings around Havock. Her head kept flinching with her hand reflexively coming up to keep the debris out of her eyes, even though she was in a helmet. The bolts were flying randomly like a two year old was playing with a toy blaster more than over sized grown men.

Havock glanced up to see Beta40 walking by. Wait, why is he... Havock jumped up grabbing Beta at the shoulders and slammed both of them back to the filthy floor. She could hear the number of projectiles increase, it sounded like rain going horizontal over her head.

“Kriffin' hell, Private!” Havock yelled as she moved over to let Beta roll into a squatting position. She watched as he almost stood again, the man looked like he was walking to the market not in the middle of a battle. “Crap, Beta. Snap the frak out of it!” Hav grabbed him again and kept him down.

“Huh? Oh...wait.” Another symphony of fire headed in their direction, Beta reacted in a proper way finally this time, ducking as to not get shot. He shook his head, “sorry Lance Corporal.”

“Are you with us now, Beta?” Havock was yelling, something seemed to be wrong with the comms or they were just in the middle of a noisy battlefield, it was hard for her to tell.

“Yes, ma'am.”

Havock cringed at being called “ma'am” but just nodded and gave the trooper and shove on the shoulder to indicate he needed to keep moving.

Havock looked up and saw Jae speed past them strafing by the walls of the buildings. She intercepted Ron before he could go any further and the rest of the squad caught up to his location.

“Sir, its another 100 meters around that corner and we should be at the Wraith's location.” Jaenna updated Ron with a professional tone. He glanced at his datapad, all of them kept flinching and twisting to avoid the random shots being fired in their direction.

“Ah, right. Okay lets move. But make sure I'm on point. The comm's are acting up and I can't let the Wraith's know we are coming, I don't want anyone getting shot by our own people.” Ron made sure everyone had understood the orders in the noisy street before they moved on around the next corner to the Wraith's location.

Ron and Jae had a lead on the others, the privates just kept losing their footing in the rubble or over reacting to the crossbow bolts. Suddenly, a barbarian jumped out of nowhere right sending Raelene slamming to the ground on her back, her legs scooting rapidly on the ground trying to move backwards away from the hulking man.

Beta rolled, staying low until he ran into the building at an awkward angle. Karash and Havock unleashed hell with their blasters on the barbarian causing him to scream and stumble. Havock kept firing at him as Karash dropped his weapon and grabbed Raelene by the shoulders, yanking her to safety before the barbarian dropped to the ground in a bloody heap.

“He must have thought there was only one of us. Beta, Rae you okay?” Havock was laying on her back propped up on her elbows.

Beta rolled slowly back to face Havock. “Yeah, I think. Nailed my shoulder against the wall.”

“Raelene is fine, we need to move Hav.” Karash spoke kneeling next to the hyperventilating Raelene.

The four of them got themselves together and continued to crouch close to the ground using rubble and whatever else they came across as shielding. Jae motioned for the group to stop, and they all complied. It looked like they were about at the Wraith's location, Havock could see some artillery being fired at the barbarians.

Joamer's voice came over Havock's comm. “What you miss me?”

Havock reach up and touched Karash's shoulder. “Hold your fire people.”

Joamer came around the corner of the building they had halted in front of. “Sir, I have visual confirmation of RAIDERS squad.”

He nodded as if he was hearing instructions the rest of the group could not due to the faulty comm's at the moment. “Alright you lot come with me, Ron and Jaenna are going to meet up with Kand down there. But we could use your guys help to get rid of these barbarians.”

Havock shrugged. “Well we didn't come over here for tea and crumpets. Lead the way, Sir.”

Rogueboy surveyed the town, from their side there was only one main entrance which was depicted by the main stone road. The acting fire team captain wished that they had mines or at least sensor modules to attach to the detpacks. While wishing for those he might as well wish for another platoon, three star destroyers a hooker and a case of beer. On the road there was a makeshift barricade that an unmanned E-web was standing behind. Beretz had previously used it until Ron saw a grenade go off, oddly enough there was no carcass or signs of Beretz anywhere. Upon reflection the village had been poorly defended, however it had been hard to set up proper defenses. The village had been undamaged when they had arrived; no scorch marks no destroyed buildings. That is what makes it much easier for soldiers to hide in, the rubble and destruction is the natural camouflage. In the untouched village it’s impossible to hide from someone looking around, a gun is always out of place in the land of peace.

Sighing, Rogue saw something move inside the village. Quickly he swung his sniper rifle over and took a glance, dirty white imperial armour stared back at Rogue. Quickly RB jumped out of the door and near fell off the roof as he made a mad dash for his escape rope. It has to be Beretz, and he’s alive.

As soon as Rogue reached the downed trooper’s side, he knew that unless the soldier got some serious medical attention he was going to die. Quickly RB swung the soldier onto his shoulders and made for what the squad had called “the doctor’s house”.

Opening the front door while precariously balancing Beretz was hard and it took RB three tries before he finally got the door open. Proceeding past a small desk Rogue shouldered open a swinging door. This was the operating room; cabinets of pharmaceutical equipment and stuff gazed back at Rogue, and a table was set up in the middle. Placing the semi-conscious Beretz on the table RB, then quickly stripped him down to his underwear. There were grenade fragments that had pierced him in a dozen places. Dispensing with the familiarity with drugs that numb the senses Rogue went to work by quickly searching for the deep fragments.

An hour later and Rogueboy had stabilized Beretz who was snoozing on the operating table despite being covered in blood and bandages. RB was no medic but he had been wounded enough times to know what to do and pulling shrapnel out was fairly easy as long as no vital organs had been hit. As the situation stood, Beretz had a high fever but there was nothing that Rogue could comfortably give him.

RB was returning to his sniper point when as an after thought he decided he was going to make sure that no one could get in without Beretz’s say so. Unsure how Rogue was going to do that he gave up and as fast as he could returned to his post, mindful of the traps he had set up.

The sound came closer. Each time it did, Saphira could swear she felt her pulse beat harder against herself. Almost as if she was facing some kind of demon. Yet, not one as she moved to the side of a tree and leaned against it. As everyone was in place they waited when the brush parted and snapped and stood one of the humanoid creatures.

"NOW!!"

Saphira ordered as everyone scrambled. The enemy too wasn't dumb and ran like a train into a couple of the Alpha's. The went flying to the sides and hit trees with thuds. Yet they were alive as they stood and started to shoot with shaky arms or on one leg. Sith Spit. This is gonna get ugly

Brock came in with then a heavy machine blaster and started shooting as JB tossed a flash bang. The combination was enough to push it to the side as it was blinded. Yet it didn't stop and they had a limited supply of Thermal Detonators. Dropping down to a knee she shot her own E-11 at it. Others did to as it turned and the smell of burning flesh was starting to rank the air from it.

"DOWN!" Cried Draca. He was one of the Alpha's. By instinct she and others did as she saw him ready with a TD and had it rigged to a dead man's switch. he was going to commit suicide!

"Draca! No.. Don't.. I order you.. Not like that!" She cried out and as he slowed the thing swung it's weapon at him. Draca inaptly dropped and rolled. Making sure he kept the TD in his hand. "Everyone Scatter. Confuse him! Draca.. " She nodded to him and pointed. She hoped he understood as they ran back. Draca as well as the sound of anger came from their enemy. It didn't know which way and then just when Draca was about to ready a second one emerged from the woods. Time then seemed to slow still as it saw it's comrade injured and looked at her and the others. Not good...

"Drac.. Do it!"

She whispered and shot at both. A good portion only skinned them or passed by, missing by mere inches. Flickering her eyes down she saw the other was wounded as well. It walked with a limp on it's right foot. Breathing in and out she moved out of the range of fire and then out of nowhere came the explosion. A massive fireball that filled with a rage of death yells. Everyone stopped and waited as the damage died down.

"Everyone stay alert. There could be more." Saphira replied into the com channel for everyone. All she could think now was if Draca was alright and how her injured troopers were. As they approached she saw Draca walking up with a slight limp.

"No Worried.. it's just a twisted ankle.. Root got me as I ran out of blast radius.." He replied. Saphira noted the scorching marks on his armor. Shaking her head, she was about to say something when one of the two started to move. It's body was nearly destroyed. Instinctively, she shot at it. Even though it was already dead and in final death throws she couldn't take a chance. No one could.

"Damn Sarg.. " Brock replied, as he walked up to be next to her.

"I know.. It still seemed alive, but had to make sure. Where Aike and Blik?"

"Over here Striker." Came JB's voice. her head snapping to the far right as one of the Field medics was patching them up. Taking her helmet off she wiped sweat from her brow and walked quickly over to them.

"How are they?"

"They will be ok. Nothing the Bacta patches can't handle."

That's a relief.. She thought and turned to Draca. "You get that ankle checked out as well. No buts."

He only nodded and went over as the rest scanned around. After about thirty minutes and no other surprises they breathed a little easier. Of the three injured, one had a broken leg and needed to be helped and the other a fractured wrist as well as the twisted ankle. It was better then casualties. Although, with one of her guys slowing her down it would take a little longer. If they were ambushed again, things could go bad for them.

"Alright people.. Let's move out.. We still have a job to do.. and I don't want to be here if there's more about and heard the noise.."

With no complaints, they started walking on and Saph patched through to Doc's com.

"You guys ok? I thought I heard a blast in the distance." Came his first words. She swore he was a mind reader at times.

"Yea. We got ambushed by two of them. No deaths but the enemy. Three injured. One with a broken leg. Bacta patch and meds will help, but he'll need a bacta tank when this is over."

"Well, thats decent news. We are having to move a little more slow thanks to the blast. There's about five in our area. They don't see us yet."

"Just becarefull Riq." Saphira replied.

"Meet ya there. Keep them alive.." Doc replied before cutting off. So they have their own issues now. No thanks to us. Yet, that doesn't surprise me. Not with all that has happened. Everyone had their own issues and it was up to them to reach their goal to help the others. Saphira knew she had to keep the others alive. Yet, at the same time knew that if it came to it, she might have to let their injured be killed to save the rest. Without another thought they moved onward...

Ananzi looked around the small house.  Kand and Helena were doing their best to tend to the wounded mortar team soldiers.  One of them looked like he was going to lose an arm, he was pale and sweat beaded on his forehead.    He peered out the window to see the storm outside getting worse.  A fork of lightning illuminated the sky, followed a few seconds later by a loud crack of thunder.  It was dusk and the light was starting to go, He wondered if the enemy was waiting for the cover of darkness to mount a full assault.  It seemed like those they had faced were just scouts, testing the strength of the defenses.

Kand looked up from the man he was treating, “Private, I need you to get on that E-Web and give us some cover.  With us stuck here helping these two we’ll be an easy target.”

“Yes sir” Ananzi replied, thinking this was a hell of a first mission. He had a few very close calls but one of his squad mates always had his back.  He could tell if they made it out of here alive they would be a tight group.

He walked over to RK, who was hunched over against the wall.  He looked shaken but was showing signs of recovery.

“I’m all right, thanks for getting me out of there,” said RK.

“Forget about it,” Ananzi answered, helping him to his feet.

He moved over to the E-Web, which had a good view of the street.  It would take a lot of fire if a force moved in, but hopefully the shield would hold up and the snipers on the roof would keep the enemy from getting too close.  There was something about these barbarians, he thought, remembering the crazed look in their eyes.  It was like were happy to die. He realized if there were enough of them they’d just be overwhelmed.  They would kill many of them, but who knew how long they could defend this position?

“We have movement in the trees outside the village gates” Anival said, his voice crackling in over the comlink.

“Copy that, I also have activity in one of the buildings over in that area.  I don’t know how they got in there though,” added Joamer.

Ananzi remembered seeing a sort of trap door on the floor of one of the houses when they entered the village.  He had a sinking feeling in his stomach and his heart was pounding.

Using the comlink he reported,  “I think they are using tunnels underneath the houses.  There could be more of them coming in that way in any of these buildings.”  He hoped the message made it through to Raiders as well.  If they were only expecting an attack from only one direction, they would be vulnerable.

Switching on the E-Web, he was relieved to find an auto-configure mode.  Without this he would have been lost.  The weapon hummed to life, the screen showed a bar labeled “powering up” and a timer counting down from five minutes.  If the barbarians started moving in en mass before then he was going to be up the river without a paddle  . . .

Anival was torn, he didn’t want to leave the relative safety of the rooftops, but he wanted go and scout the area below, from what Ananzi said, they could be overwhelmed easily, especially if they came at them from below.

Psht, yeah right, safety.

Joamer reported the arrival of Raiders.

Anival put his blaster down and walked over to the mortar team, he looked at were they were.

“Do you have a line of sight?”

“Yes”

Anival looked around, it was the perfect place, they could bombard the enemy, Anival also noticed the lack of protection. Anival walked around, after a while he came back with scavenged equipment, setting up a small barrier so the mortars would have some protection from shot coming from below. Next Anival walked over to Joamer, Anival bit into a ration bar, he offered another to Joamer.

“You know.” said Anival through a mouthful, “I am happy I have insurance.”

The laughed, a forced laugh.

Anival bit greedily into his ration bar, you never knew when you would get a chance to eat, especially under their current situation.

Anival finished the last bite and inspected his armor, it was scorched and dented, and had several holes, most of the holes small, but two large holes at the back, one of which exposed the tender area above his neck, and the other exposed his shoulder.

Rain pelted the waiting wraith.

Anival saw the Raiders make their way to the building.

A barbarian crept behind the raiders, for their size they were silent, Joamer raised his rifle, and let loose a single shot, a trooper quickly turned around and noticed the dead barbarian, he or she waved in an awkward thanks.

“What I don’t understand is how we have no combat engineer in the squad.” mentioned Anival.

“Why don’t you do it?”

“I’m more of a vehicle man, there’s just something about being behind the controls of an AT-PT, or an AT-ST and blasting chunks out of the terrain that sets my heart on fire.”

Joamer shook his head.

“Any other movement?” came a voice in their comms.

“Who is this? Ron? Kand?”

“It’s Palpatine now answer the damn question.” Anival chortled.

“None that I can see.”

“Well he had some movement, if you see anything out of the ordinary tell me, well, anything besides what we are in right now.”

“This isn’t out of the ordinary. This is another day in a soldiers life.”

The mortar team looked at him, “another day huh?”

“Well,…” started Anival.

“Enough games, pay attention, I don’t want you guys dead, yet.”

“Will do.”
Anival made a mental calculation of how long they had been on the planet.

Anival sat next to Joamer’s position.

“Another year gone by.” said Anival.

Joamer looked puzzled.

“Never mind, just wake me if anything happens.” muttered Anival and he nodded off, hoping to get a little sleep before the madness broke out again.

Cursing, Jori held his head in his hands and thought about what had just happened. Some frakking idiot had unintentionally dropped a concussion grenade with the pin almost out. In the panicked atmosphere, they were rushing off, quickly leaving it behind. Jori had happened along and kicked it, dislodging the pin. He had a moment’s notice of it when it spun into the air in front of him. Realizing what it was, he scrambled backwards in an effort to get away. That effort was in vain. The grenade went off, sending a shock wave of pain in Jori’s direction. His vision went hazy and his eardrums popped with an excruciating amount of pain. Leaning against a nearby building, he breathed heavily until he recovered. Standing up, he was swept by dizziness and tried to steady himself. A minute later, he shook it off and continued on what he was doing, cursing silently all the way.

“Sergeant!” someone yelled.

Jori perked up when he heard his rank being called. Looking around, he saw nobody else above Corporal except for another Sergeant standing next to a building a few meters from him. Gesturing to Jori, the Sergeant waved him over.

“I’ve got a job for you. Wraith, right?” the Sergeant said after Jori jogged over.

“Yes sir.” Jori replied with a nod.

“One of your teammate has reported that there are trapdoors in some of the buildings that lead into tunnels. We have eliminated some of the buildings that Wraith and RAIDERS member have taken up temporary residence in.” he said as he pointed out the cleared buildings to Jori, “I need you to go check those out and possibly rig up some kind booby trap in case the barbarians decide to take them. Watch out though, some of the barbarians have already gone through the tunnels and are in some of the buildings. Another Wraith is on the roof and is trying to keep the barabarians inside the buildings that have been overrun.”

That’d be Joamer for sure.

Even though this was his first mission with Wraith, he had already learned some about the squad and knew that Joamer was the only decent sniper in the squad. Jori himself was ok, but was nowhere near the level of skill that Joamer had already demonstrated.

“I’m on my way.” Jori said, giving the man a half-salute, even though he was technically not required to.

Taking off, he cleared the first two buildings, but struck gold in the third house. There were not one, but two trapdoors, both tunnels leading off into different directions. Taking some demo charges off his belt, he rigged them up on the tunnel walls that were right at the trapdoor and instead of setting it to a certain time, he changed it to motion sensor. Stepping back before it activated, he climbed out and entered the other tunnel, setting up a similar trap.

That should do it.

Satisfied, he left and entered the next building. A couple buildings and a whole lot of demo charges later, Jori was walking up to a building that was like every other one, but felt weird.

It feels like I shouldn’t go in there, but I’ve got to find out if there are any trapdoors in there.

He had just layed his hand on the handle when his commlink crackled.

“Don…open……door…there……arbarian…..there. Do…yo….ead?” Joamer said.

Jori, getting the gist of message, replied, “Yeah, I read.”

Stepping back, he started to move to the next building, but stopped when he was struck with an idea. Taking out some different demo charges, he placed one part of the charge on the edge of the door itself and the other exactly beside it, on the building. What would happen is when the door opened, the beam between the two parts of the charge would be interrupted which will set it off.

“Thanks for the warning.” Jori said into his comm.

Moving on to the last building he had to check out, he noticed movement inside. Narrowing his eyes, he picked out the different bodies, but couldn’t identify them further than them not being barbarians. Letting out his breath, he approached with his rifle raised and opened the door. He let the rifle drop when he noticed the figures were in fact a couple of RAIDERS who he couldn’t identify other than Beta, who had had a very brief stint in Jester and a few Wraiths; RK, Ananzi, Helena, and Kanderin to be exact. Grinning, Jori entered and walked over to where Kand was crouching.

“Orders?” Jori said.

“Uh… nothing really. Most of the defenses are in place and we’re too busy at the moment. Go find Joamer, he just left up those stairs in the corner.” Kand said, without looking up.

Jori could tell he was concentrating on other things. He gave a curt nod and walked over to the stairs. He was halfway up it when a loud bell sound rang out.

What the hell was that

Confused, he looked back down the stairs, but the rest of Wraith was too busy to notice. Shaking his head, he jogged up the stairs and emerged on the roof. Looking around, he saw the bell tower immediately for it was being assaulted. The bell must have been hit by something because it was swaying back and forth. Jori could see a figure standing near the bell, but couldn’t see who it was. He couldn’t do anything for the figure at the moment so he continued on across the roof.

Now to find Joamer. Ah, there he is...

He kept low in case there were barbarians nearby and spotted Joamer on the roof of the adjacent building. Running forward, he took a leap over the gap and made it, rolling into a crouch. He must have surprised Joamer because he jerked to the side and swung his rifle around. Throwing up his hands, Jori grinned crazily, trying his best not to burst out laughing. With a relieved sigh, Joamer slumped against the barricade and, shaking his head slowly, turned back around. Crawling over to Joamer, he clapped the other Wraith on the back and chuckled a bit.

“Don’t ever do that again, ok? You scared the hell out of me.” Joamer said with a little bit of a grin.

Setting up his rifle in the sniper’s holes, he settled down and looked down the scope at the empty terrain in front of them.

There’s a time in everyone’s life where a mental alarm bell flashes and yells. “You’re going to die.” This happens because on a long enough time line everyone’s survival rate drops to zero. That’s what was occurring to Rogueboy at the moment.

The barbarians had attacked again this time in a larger force and they were making some major headway. Long range comms only revealed static and short range wasn’t very beneficial for Rogueboy right now. Finally RB wished that his sniper rifle was one of the more modern blaster types instead of a slugthrower, this was because of his shortage of ammunition. When using the blaster type you could control how much power is in every bolt thereby allowing him to conserve his ammunition even when the blaster leaves a distinctive bolt that shows where the sniper is. Rogue’s location was unimportant because everyone already knew where he was and a few misplaced bolts let RB know that they were head hunting for him.

A loud crack below Rogue showed that some of the barbarians were inside the school and making their way to the top, meaning it was time to get the hell out. “Grahim I’m pulling back!” Rogue said as he put his hand on the railing in order to jump it. Just as he was doing that a crossbow sailed just over his head and struck the bell. An unimaginably loud ringing sound filled Rogue’s head causing him to immediately drop his sniper and raise his hands to where his audio sensors were trying to drown out the sound. Slowly Rogueboy opened his eyes just in time to see his sniper rifle go over the edge of the building and land on the stones below.

A dimmed crackle sound alerted Rogue that Grahim was trying to tell him something. “Grahim I can’t hear shit, fucking bell!” RB yelled as a blaster bolt flew over his shoulder.

Running along the slanted tiles was proving to be harder than Rogueboy first thought especially with his pounding migraine that the bell gave him. An explosion shook the building, RB couldn’t help but smirk at the thought of the barbarian who most likely just got decapitated.

Reaching his escape rope Rogue swung down it causing his gloved hand to get extremely warm from the friction. Hitting the ground running used to always be an expression to RB but not this time, as soon as he landed he pulled out his blaster pistol and started running into the building that Havock had been manning the E-web. The sprint for safety was cut short when Rogue was at the door; a sudden pain in his leg forced him to crumple to the ground.

Looking down Rogue saw a chipped crossbow quarrel and that his kneecap was bent at an impossible angle. The pain was excruciating and there were tears in Rogueboy’s eyes as he holstered his pistol and used both of his hands to raise himself. Using the door for leverage RB hobbled towards the E-web every step an agonizing pain but he was determined to hold off until his head becomes a trophy on a stick.

“Grahim?” Rogue asked.

Not that he would hear what the Gungan had to say anyways but he wanted to know if he was alive and to update Grahim on where Rogue was situated.

After twenty seconds Rogueboy assumed the Gungan was most likely dead or the comms was in the shitter. Figuring he was alone either way Rogue entered the ignition code and made sure the E-web was firing bolts that were not to strong as to waste juice but strong enough to kill. Using the E-web proved to help Rogue stay upright while he began to unleash all hell on the barbarians.

Joamer handed back the Macrobinoculars to Anival and grumbled quietly.

"I just don't get it." He muttered a few moments later. "Why go through the trouble of setting up an attack over there, if your main attack never gets initiated."

Shaking his head he peered around the edge of the barricade and sighed. The barbs were sitting just at the edge of the village, doing nothing. He knew a few were inside the village, but nothing remotely dangerous, not in those numbers. The force outside outnumbered them three to one, that was what everyone was worried about.

He moved back inside the safe zoom of the barricade and stopped himself from snarling.

The run down rooftop was about twenty feet across, the house was square. They had used anything they could find and created a wall three feet high about a foot inside the outside perimeter of the rooftop. This gave them room to move, but this was the only one like that. Six other houses had simple barricades setup in strategic places on their rooftops, with beams spanning the empty air between buildings. The job was hastily done, he wished they had more time.

Why waste the effort of setting up an attack like this and not use it. Just why. His thought was cut off as off in the distance he heard the ringing of a bell. Peering that direction he could not make out anything, since it was nearly pitch black outside.

"Frak!" He shouted as he jumped up and raced down the stairway. "Anival, Jori stay there. I just figured out why they never attacked."

Racing down the narrow ladder, he jumped the last few feet and made for the stairs. Slowing down at the last step he came to a stop, the noise he made caused the small group to quickly take positions. Shaking his head he walked out into the center of the room and breathed deeply a few times.

"This whole thing was a double ruse. The attack on the Raiders side was the first one, to make us think they planned it so they could bring their main force on this side. The main force is on this side, but they are not attacking. This was the second ruse, they hoped we would fall for it and send reinforcements here, leaving a few to guard the other site. That bell was pure luck, the ones we left are under attack." Joamer said in a rush.

Two seconds ticked by before everyone started scrambling. Ron hit his commlink and began ordering everyone back to this location. Star stood near the center and shook her head a few times.

She cleared her throat before saying "We will go, leave your men here. If this is true they won't attack at all. Maybe this was all a ruse, to just hold us here."

"Hold us here for what?" Ron said as he clicked off his commlink.

"What about the army?"

Everyone turned at the sound of the new voice, Ananzi stood in the back doorway, a sheepish look on his face. He breathed deeply once before continuing "Think about it, we keep hearing about this army that is massive, but we never see it. This would be the perfect time, try to get us trapped here so they can wipe us out."

Kand had begun nodding, everyone exchanged glances and then began nodding slowly as well.

"Makes sense." Star said.

"Alright, game plan. Raiders fall back to their original location. If they do not attack we spend the time we have left building more defenses, we have to hold out till help arrives, if it arrives." Kand said.

"Raiders, meet up at this location. We are going to rescue our friends." Ron said as he exited the door.

Joamer exchanged a brief glance with Star before she turned around and walked out. Turning around he began walking back up the stairs, he shared a look with Kand for a instant before he mounted the steps.

Kand turned to Helena and scowled at the small smile she wore.

Off in the distance the peels of the bell cut off.

Ananzi scanned the building Jori had nearly entered with the E-Webs targeting system.  He had breathed a sigh of relief when the fellow Wraith didn’t enter.  There were at least 6 of the humanoids inside.  They seemed to be waiting for some kind of a signal, because they weren’t moving to exit the house or firing at them.

Along with the group Anival and Joamer had spotted in the trees outside the village, there was at least 30 of them.  He took out his electrobinoculars and scanned the distance , but it was impossible to see what was there through the rain and the vegetation of the tree line.  There was noise coming from the bell tower where he knew one of the Raiders was positioned, but the distance was too far for the E-Web and he risked hitting a friendly.

The barbarians were showing much greater aptitude for tactics than he had given them credit for.  By massing their forces, they were forcing us to make a move which they could then react to.  Clearly they knew how many of us there were, which really made Ananzi nervous.  If they managed to pull off a flanking maneuver, they would be cut off from leaving the village and surrounded.  At the same time, if they moved out of their fortified position, they would be picked off one by one by the enemy’s superior numbers.

Thinking about the mission, he realized he had been in a state of attention, fear, or anxiety for what felt like days.  He wasn’t sure exactly how long he had been there, after arriving it had become a blur of constant attacks and near death experiences.  Bringing himself back to situation, he noted he was getting sloppy.  One lapse in awareness could result in death for himself or another trooper.  Cirrus, his teacher in Teras Kasi, had taught him breathing and meditation exercises to calm and retain focus.  Cycling deep and short breathing, he focused and centered himself.

As soon as this was achieved a bright flash, followed by a tremendous explosion, blinded him for a second and he nearly fell over.  Thanks to the anti-flash blinding lense in his helmet, he recovered his vision to find two of the buildings Jori had rigged lying in a pile of smoking rubble.  A cloud of dust obscured the area, and chunks of rocks were falling from the sky.

“Good work Jori, that thinned them out a bit”, he said over his comlink.

“They may try and rush us now that Raiders have split off”, replied Joamer.

“What’s the status of the mortar team?”, asked Kand.

“They’ve lost a few men but are in position near me and standing by”, answered Ananzi.

The two forces were like boxers, circling each other around the ring, each throwing the occasional jab but not committing to a full attack.  Ananzi’s mind wandered for a second, remembering dog fights he had seen in the under city back home.  For a second he wondered why he this came into his head, then he remembered the glazed, blood-thirsty look in the eyes of the spectators and animals.  It was just like the look he had seen in the barbarians eyes.

“Hold your fire, I repeat, hold your fire until my order.  We aren’t sure what their next move is yet”

“Yes, sir”, he clicked off the comlink, thinking how much war was like holo-chess.

Anival looked around and spotted a barbarian.

“Kand I’m going scouting.”

“Alright, but hurry up.” he sounded tense.

Anival cradled his blaster, and climbed down from the roof.

“When I get out of this mess, I’m sending so many complaints to High Command, maybe I’ll get a fat compensation check or something.” Anival was talking to himself, he did this occasionally when he was overly stressed.

Anival heard the pitter patter of feet and looked around, he didn’t see anything, switching to infrared, Anival leveled his blaster, not wanting to let the enemy get the jump.

“Barbarian, alone, should I engage?”

“r….er……as……enience.” came the garbled reply.

“Alrighty then.”

Anival cautiously walked toward the giant red signature that was the barbarian. Anival turned off the infrared, and peeked, a giant axe came rushing down, nearly chopping his head off, Anival rolled and let blaster bolts fly, but the barbarian was already fleeing.

Strange, thought Anival.

Anival followed suit. Around a corner, over ruble, again the axe came flying down, this time Anival wasn’t as quick, and it’s managed to chip a piece of his helmet.

“Son of a bantha!” roared Anival tackling the barbarian, big mistake. A giant hand hit him like an hydraulic hammer, sending him flying towards a pile of debris, Anival hit it an stood up dazed, he followed the retreating barbarian.

Anival turned a corner, and saw that the barbarian wasn’t their anymore, it had vanished, Anival could taste bile on his tongue, sitting down were he stood, Anival contacted the squad.

“Barbarian got away, tackled the nerf herder and, when I got back up, well, wasn’t their”

“Tackled…….why………him?……..pid…….what?” Anival got the message.

“It was one of those spur of the moments things.”

Anival stood back up and took of his helmet, the cool breeze, rain wetting his hair.

“I really need a haircut, hey Joamer After we get off this planet we can both go to a barber shop eh?”

Anival heard audible laughs from the comm.

“Just wait till you get back here.” said Joamer.

Anival chuckled and head toward the base.

“Eh, I think I will fortify the surrounding area first.” said Anival

“What’s wrong Ans? To afraid to go see Joamer?”

“Uhh, no just the area looks like it could use some work.”

“Sure”

Anival could just imagine his head crunching, and Joamer electro drivers whirring.

Anival smelled in the fresh air, it was a relief, to smell the air during the rain, it was such a rare occurrence now for Anival, ever since he left his home planet.

Anival felt home sick.

Joamer had stopped at the corner of a building and kneeled down, they were trying to find the best spot to place the E-web, and so far all the potential locations had proved a bad choice. The rain continued to fall, it was not a downpour but it was not little drops either. Visibility was limited to maybe twenty feet, but he had the equipment to negate the rain or darkness.

Propping the butt of his DLT-20a on the ground he leaned against the muzzle and starred out at the small village square. Mumbling softly half to himself he tried to ignore the haunting ability the village had suddenly shown to possess. He guessed being so intent on other things he ignored this fact when they first got here, but now with nothing to do but prepare the shear emptiness of the village pressed in on him.

He could almost imagine ghostly figures entering and exiting the windowless shops lining the square. A toppled fountain stood in the center, the sign of generations of passing feet had rutted the cobble stoned street. Abandonment had caused the weeds to creep out of the stones, pushing some out of the way causing trip hazards in the darkness.

After the barbarians had suddenly vanished the village become a living breathing entity, he could almost hear the laughter of the children over the rain. Years ago, he had been witness to a powerful weapon being detonated in a region where thousands lived. He had walked the ruins of that region, he could sense then the ghosts that haunted the place. This was the same, something bad happened here, he doubted the villagers had simply decided one day to pack up and leave.

Studying the main road into this section of the village he stopped mumbling suddenly. Anival turned around and starred at him, but seeing nothing of interest turned back around and continued to watch their backs.

Det packs, there, there, and there. Placed just so in those alleyways, not to kill, that is only a bonus. No, more to topple the walls of those buildings. Collapse those alleyways into and out of this section of the village. Funnel whoever or whatever came through here into the center, place the E-web here. Cause them to bottle neck. Yes, just like on Yashuvhu over six hundred years ago. Minus the det packs, and the E-web. He thought, his right index finger tapping gently on the end of his rifle.

Standing up he tapped Anival on the shoulder and turned the corner of the building. Walking a short ways he kneeled down again and began grumbling. This was the tricky part, wide open thoroughfare leading to the other side of the village. In front of him the road widened to forty feet side to side, the buildings looked in slightly better condition then those in the square, maybe upscale housing, or this was the town hall section. The houses were built so close together one man could not walk down the alleyways without trouble.

We could thin their numbers here, but this is where part of the main force will go. He thought irritably.

The incessant tink tink tink of the rain drops had caused his long forgotten eye twitch to return. He took another deep breath and inhaled the stink of decay, mud, and rain. He watched the wide road for a minute more before tapping Anival on the shoulder again and walking off.

They walked a ways, looking for any place to set up ambushes, or fall back points. He spotted a couple and made note of them. Stopping at what looked like a brightly painted building he poked his head inside and  sighed softly.

Even someone who had spent more time out of school then in it could tell this was where children went to learn, and play. Low benches, to low for the average adult sat around the room, desks lined the walls, and hooks stood four feet off the floor on the front wall of the school building. Kneeling down he picked up a dark object, months of dust fell off the small figure, after holding it out under the rain he starred at the life like face and nearly lost it.

"What girl would leave a doll behind? What school teacher would miss it on the ground before they left for the day? These people did not leave willingly." Joamer said softly, he feared letting his voice carry in this place now. Opening an empty belt pack he placed the doll in it and closed the flap.

Tapping Anival on the shoulder again he walked away, leaving the ghosts of children to play in peace.

Opening one eye at a time Baretz felt like a piece of meat that had gone through many grinders. Trying to piece together how he got undressed and covered in bandaged, the memories were eluding him. Either way he needed to get himself clothed; looking around the room he noticed a lab coat was hung on a peg on a door. Ever so slowly Baretz stood up; feeling the world spin he took some slow deep breaths to slow his racing heart. Walking towards the peg was a lot harder then it looked and he could feel a wound on his thigh open up. Slipping one arm into the white coat a flashback struck him; he had panicked and ran just as a grenade exploded in front of him.

Grabbing a blood soaked scalpel Baretz realized that he would need any weapon he could find considering that any weapon was better than no weapon. Opening the door lead to a sitting room of some sort, an office desk was set up with a comfy looking chair and a terminal. The front door had a piece of see-through glass and it showed that outside was dark and wet. Figuring that staying indoors would not answer any of his questions Baretz opened the front door.

As soon as the door was opened a hulking figure made its way towards Baretz as fast as it could wielding a huge axe. Seeing the weakened trooper it roared out a challenge and was about to swing the axe when Baretz quickly shoved the scalpel deep into its throat.

Rogueboy watched as the barbarian took a step back as it was stunned by Baretz’s audacity; with one hand it clawed at it’s throat in an attempt to dislodge the blade while the other hand buried the skull had hard as it could into Baretz’s skull. RB watched in mute fascination has hair, skin, bone, and gray brain matter was cut in half. The barbarian didn’t last much longer than it took for Baretz to fall to the ground; shame Rogueboy could have used the soldier to get him some of the numbing agency inside the Doc’s house.

Ever mindful of overheating the batteries to the E-web RB felt like he was putting up a heroic defence; well at least that’s how he felt. Killing more than three enemies for an engagement was heroic for Rogue, even when he had his sniper rifle he had only killed about five of the enemy before he had been forced to retreat. If the traps had any kills those would of course be attributed to his confirmed kill count when they read it out at his funeral. Then again perhaps RB would not have a funeral, if he died to the barbarians they would most likely take his body leaving Raiders to dismiss him as an official MIA. The reason the army loved to stamp MIA on a most likely dead soldier was that they then did not have to spend the money on the aforementioned soldier’s funeral. It was realized a long time ago that this was a quick money saver.

Sighing Rogue wished the barbarians would kill him, or that Raiders knew he was in trouble; something had to happen soon.

BARman kept his position as Doc contacted Saph, he had his weapon trained in the direction of the creatures which they had figured out were following them. As he listened to Doc's conversation with the Assistant Squad Leader, BARman scanned the woods around him, thinking back to the last time he was in a similar situation.

He had just left the Navy after the fiasco which took place in the old Kaph squadron, involving him and one of his squadron mates there. Although the time immediately following this event had not been one of his most fond memories, he had gone through a similar experience to the one he faced now, while the creatures in the forest on that planet had been different, the situations he had faced were much the same.

As his thoughts returned to the present, BARman reaches back into the pack he carries, checking to make sure that in addition to the communication equipment which he was required to carry, he also has the Flame Carbine which he had requested from the Imperial Center Store before he left the barracks on this mission.

Looking back over toward his Squad Leader, BARman sees that Doc has finished his conversation with Saph, and Doc turns back to him, beginning to issue orders, "Private, we're going to move to link up with Saph's unit, they have sustained casualties, and I think that they could use our assistance at this point. We're going to move in two elements, you'll be with me, the others will follow. Understood?"

BARman nods his head and responds "Perfectly Sir."

"Then lets get moving"

they begin to move out, they move ahead while the second element follows them, and then they drop down and cover the second element while they advance, they do this in a leapfrogging fashion, moving through the forest slowly, keeping a careful watch on the group of five creatures which is moving through the area, it is obvious they are looking for the VE soldiers, but they have not yet managed to locate them.

As Doc and BARman stop to cover the other element's advance after the 5th or 6th set of leapfrogging maneuvers, BARman slowly moves his rifle across the group of creatures, scanning for anything that might have changed about their movements.

Something seemed odd to BARman this time and he began to scan across the creatures again, counting them off as he sights them, One, Two, Three, Four... Four... Four...

"Where is the 5th on-" BARman doesn't even get to finish his statement before the missing creature, which had wandered off in this direction after hearing a couple of twigs snap, was on him, they were both surprised by the appearance of the other, the creature was surprised by the sight of the two soldiers in white armor, the target of their search, yet appearing in a completely unexpected manner. Similarly, BARman was surprised by the sudden appearance of a creature which only two minutes prior had been about 50 meters off in the trees.

This initial surprise on both sides was the only reason BARman was still alive, as it was he found his rifle knocked out of his hands, and he was on his back on the ground, trying to ward off the blows from the creature while his fellow squad members opened fire with their weapons, this went on for what seemed like an eternity for BARman, but which was in fact probably no more than ten or fifteen seconds.

"Our blasters aren't having any effect!" someone yells, BARman can't identify the voice, preoccupied as he was with such small matters as his survival. Suddenly he remembers the flame carbine in his back and as he rolls to the side to avoid another swipe of the creatures claws, he draws the carbine and fires a short burst at the creature, at such close range, the flames quickly burn through the flesh of the creature's body, killing it instantly.

BARman pulls himself to his feet, examining the new additions to the collection of scratches he has gotten so far on this mission. He looks up as a shadow falls over him and Doc's voice clearly comes over his comm unit. "And when, Private, were you going to inform me that you were carrying that piece of equipment? You know there have been a number of situations where that would have come in handy."

BARman retrieves his rifle from the ground, and as he checks it he comments, "But sir, then it would have been to easy."

Havock could hear bolts being fired from an E-Web off in the distance. Ron and Jae were on point again checking around every corner before they advanced through the crowded village streets. Flimsy and other forms of trash blew by the troopers as they sprinted and crouched in unison. It seemed the RAIDERS were chasing ghosts today. Hearing and running towards an enemy that just kept eluding them.

The Wraith’s had been under heavy fire then the barbarians just disappeared. Now the fire was coming from the RAIDERS side of the village. Rogue was a capable fighter and Grahim was pretty good with a sniper rifle, Havock didn’t know much about Baretz but she hoped that the three of them together could hold out until they got back.

Ron and Jae were going to make a b-line for the communications hub, which was located in a building Havock had seen from a distance but never went in during their preparations. Ron was carrying his datapad out in front of them, checking for any traps they may have set up before leaving.

Havock was sweating profusely, it had been a long day the humidity was killing her. The weather alternated between suffocating her with humidity and raining that annoying slow rain, the kind that doesn’t look like much but can soak you before you know it.

The group came together as they reached the street behind the building Karash was using has his med bay. They could hear a scuffle then a horrifying wet crack a few seconds before something heavy hit the floor.

“What was that?” Raelene whispered with a shaky voice.

Havock looked at the girl, they were all crouched down below the windows. “Just stay down, Rae.”

“Rogueboy, do you copy?” Ron was trying desperately to raise anyone from the team they left behind on the comms, but they were crap until the two comm techs could get back in that building just north of their current location.

He shook his head in a negative then motioned for Havock to come closer. Hav scooted along the bottom of the building until she was close enough to hear her squad leader.

“Jae and I need to get these comm’s working, for ours and Wrath’s sake. You need to find Rogue, find out what the situation is here.”

“Sir”, Jae interrupted Ron, which he growled under his breath but did not object. “Why don’t we take Beta with us, he can cover us while we are working.”

Ron nodded. “Yes, okay. Beta comes with Jae and I. You take Raelene and Karash and find Rogue and the others. Let’s clear these barbarians out of here and get the comm’s working. Then I’m pretty sure we are going to need to do some more fortification they have probably made a mess of anything we did earlier.”

Havock nodded, the instructions seemed pretty straight forward but for some reason she couldn’t shake the feeling it wasn’t going to be that simple. “Yes, sir.”

Ron called Beta over and the three turned to leave. Havock grabbed Jae’s arm before she left. “Hey, be careful.”

Jae nodded, “you too.”

Havock watched them go around the corner towards the communication’s hub. The rain started to fall again giving a musty smell to the world around her. She looked back at Raelene and Karash. “Okay, we are going to find the others, kill any barbarian in our way, and not get ourselves killed. Got it?”

Raelene just nodded nervously, the girl looked like she was going to pass out. Karash kept an eye on her for a second before turning to Havock. “This building has my med supplies, it’s a fair bet someone is injured at this point. I’d like to stop in and pick up some more supplies before we move on.”

That makes sense. Havock nodded but stopped him from looking in the windows. She slowly peered up through the closest window herself. She could see him standing there, a barbarian. He seemed to be struggling with something stuck to the floor. A rod of some kind embedded in something that just looked gross, but Hav could not make out what it was.

Sighing she squatted back down. “Barbarian, but he is distracted. Karash you and Raelene take this window, I’ll get to that one right there. When I give the signal just give him hell.”

Raelene’s shaky voice came through Havock’s helmet speakers. “But, are you sure he was alone?”

Havock nodded from the other window. “There is something on the floor but it’s not a barbarian…not a living one anyway.” Hav gave some directions for them to point their weapons using hand signals and watched as Rae and Kar pulled out their rifles and got ready.

Hav gave the signal and they both shot up, their initial fire caused the glass in front of them to shatter and come smashing to the ground around their feet. The barbarian did not know what was going on. He went from shock, to action, then faltered and fell to his knee before finally slamming into the ground next to the object he was trying to re-acquire from the floor.

The three troopers climbed through their respective windows. Havock wanted to know what was so important this barbarian let his guard down, she walked over to the object protruding from the ground. It looked like part of a weapon, her eyes followed the rod down to the ground then jumped back from it. “Shit.”

“What is it Hav?” Kar had his face in boxes gathering supplies up into a duffle to take with them.

What is it? Better who is it? Havock looked at the barbarians axe, the metal was buried in the skull of a stormtrooper, his helmet snapped in half. The floor was covered in dark red blood from the blow, combined with the darkness it was nearly impossible to see what was imperial white armor from the window.

She looked at him and the weapon he used. He wasn’t gungan so that ruled out Grahim right there, and his weapon…no it wasn’t Rogue they were looking at. That just left Bartez. Poor bastard.

Havock swallowed she could see Raelene standing in the far corner, her hand covering her chest as she tried to get her breathing under control.

Karash was standing over Havock she looked up at him and stood. “We need to find Rogue and Grahim, and we need to find them now. Do you have everything you need?”

Karash only nodded his eyes on what was left of Baretz.

Havock swallowed to keep from vomiting. “Right, let’s move.”

Karash was searching through boxes, in what would of been some kind of medical centre but was now nothing more than a dilapidated wreck. Most of what could be found was either no longer suitable for use or just so old Karash didn't know what to do with it but he loaded up on what he could because he had a bad feeling that things were going to get a lot worse. There was odd smell in this place not only did it have an old musty scent but there was something else in the air, it smelt like everywhere else on this planet did like death and filth.

“What is it Hav?” Karash asked whilst closing up his bag.

“We need to find Rogue and Grahim, and we need to find them now. Do you have everything you need?” Havock said very softly but with a sense of urgency.

Karash looked to the same direction as Havock and he saw the body of what must of have been Bartez, although it was obvious that everyone felt sorry for him there was no real feeling of sadness as no one really knew who Bartez was. Havock was right because now they had to find the two remaining Raiders and hope they hadn't suffered the same fate or anything worse.

"We are just going to leave him here?" Rae had suddenly spoken and caught both Karash and Hav off guard.

"What else is there to do?" Karash asked.

"Well we could at least move him to a more dignified area." Rae was not speaking rationally and seemed to be in denial.

"He is dead and if we do not move we will be too. Apart from that he knew what could happen and thats it." Karash said in a matter of fact tone.

Havock went over to Rae and walked her back out on to the street to try and calm her down, Karash followed them shortly afterwards; Batez's body made them all think about how that could have easily been any of them and it still could. As they walked down the street towards the area where they had left Grahim and Rogue, Havock and Karash were in front with Rae slightly behind.

"She has to calm down or she is going to get herself killed." Karash said bluntly.

"She is just nervous, she will be fine." Havock answered knowing that Karash was getting annoyed with them, for no apparent reason. "Alright Grahim was in this building here and Rogue was just over there, we will have to split up."

"I will go look for the gungan, you two go find Rogueboy and get in contact when you have." Said Karash as he walked into the building where Grahim was.

As they split up Karash realised that he had been a little critical of Rae but he had no time to think about it because there were obvious signs of a battle as there were blaster marks everywhere and a few of those crossbows lying around. As he went up what would have been a stair case Karash prepared himself to find a dead or badly injured gungan however there was only half an ear and a small pool of blood. Then a figure flew out from behind Karash and jumped on him, throwing him to the ground.

"Damn it you stupid fool get off me!" Karash shouted out.

"Mesa thought you were one of thmsa." Grahim apologised and helped Karash to his feet.

"What the hell happened to your ear?" Karash asked after getting himself straightened out.

"Itsa was blown off, can you do anything?" he replied with another question.

"I'll put a bacta pad on it but apart from that there is not a lot I can do." Karash was actually relieved to find the gungan alive.

As they began to pack up was left of Grahim's kit, Hav's muffled voice came over the coms "We found Rogue... Knee cap... Get here..." the message trailed off.

Both Karash and Grahim looked at each other and began to make there way out of the building to see what Havock was talking about.

BARman's thoughts were brought back to the present immediately as one of his fellow squad members yells out "Incoming! Looks like the others noticed BARman's little barbecue!" As BARman whirls around, he sees the creatures coming at them, quickly he brings up his weapon and opens fire, although he does carry the Flame Carbine still, the weapon does not have that much ammunition, and BARman wants to save it for use up close to the enemy where he can use the shortest length burst to do the most damage.

As the stormtroopers fire at the oncoming enemy, they are able to bring down two of them with concentrated fire before the enemies reach them, but then they find themselves once again fighting for their lives. Doc yells to BARman as they fire on one of the creatures,

"Private, either you use that Flamethrower or you give it to someone who will, that is an ORDER!"

BARman responds instantly, drawing the Flame Carbine he aims it at the creature, and with short burst he kills the creature, then turns toward the other creature, but finds it already has been brought down by the concentrated efforts of the rest of the team. He turns to Doc for further orders, and his Squad Leader instructs him.

"Get moving soldier, we don't have to worry about those things anymore, and the rest of the squad is out there somewhere, with wounded."

"Yes Sir!"

Rain was beginning to pool under the open window Joamer was starring out of. He had not moved since returning from patrol. He told them what he found, and what he thought would be best. After that he had walked to the window, opened it and starred out into the predawn night.

He could hear the low murmurs behind him, he caught brief parts of it, the word snapped, and crazy came up more then the others. He knew he was a target, starring out an open window, with light behind him. He made a perfect target, but he could not bring himself to care.

Closing his eyes he hung his head out farther to allow the rain to wash over him. The tattered remains of the doll felt heavy in his beltpack. He could feel it weighting down on him, when he first stepped foot on this planet he felt this might be his end. He felt that he might never leave this place. Now, sitting in this village, surrounded by enemies, and light years away from home, he could feel all his long years creeping up on him.

Something stopped him from walking out into the night and vanishing, some weight pulled at him to stay here. To stay alive, to want to help those who could not help themselves.

Looking down he starred at the pitted roadway, he could imagine the thousands upon thousands of feet who had walked here, now all the memories this place held would vanish into eternity. No one would fight for them, no one would remember them. They would all go down, lost into the sink of time.

A single phrase brought him back to reality suddenly, "Maybe it is time we went home." Helena said softly.

Spinning around so quickly most of the members of the squad jumped, after looking into his eyes two of them gripped their blasters tighter.

"Go home?" He said, his voice was hard emotionless. He took a single step forward, the rifles raised a hair more.

"Go home." He said, it was a statement, not a question.

"Who dares think we can ever go home? We dares hope we will ever see friends or loved ones again." He took another step forward, Kand raised a single hand and the rifles lowered.

He walked slowly around the room, starring at the faces of his friends, his family.

"Does anyone know the reason we are here?" He said softly.

"To destroy the anti-aircraft guns." RK said, he was laying on the floor, a bandage around his head.

"I mean here, now. This cursed planet. What reason did they give Kand? Why did they drag us here." Joamer said, his voice was growing harder by the minute.

"I.." Kand did not complete the sentence.

"You do not know. I do not think anyone knows." Helena said just above a whisper. Kanderin starred long and hard at her, he sighed softly and nodded.

"Why are we here then. If we are to survive this, I think it is time we figure that out for ourselves." Joamer said, walking over to the window he picked up his DLT-20a and walked towards the stairs.

"Why are you here?" Ananzi said from the doorway of the backroom.

Stopping, Joamer turned to look at the newest member of the squad, his right hand against his will touched the beltpack on his belt. He sighed, and his eyes went cold for a moment.

"Justice." He said.

The group trounced as quickly as they could with the injured. Unfortunately, working their best to keep quiet and a good pace was practically impossible to do. Pushing through some underbrush and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot, it was fairly certain that their foes had a good idea as to where they were at all times.

Sam assisting JB in aiding the soldier with the broken leg kept a sharp eye on the surrounding area. He felt it was his duty to recall the path they had take to get to the downed TIE and work on a possible alternate path back to the village encampment. Yet, with assisting he limited his ability to get the best understanding of the surroundings.

“How are you holding up there, buddy?” Sam queried his comrade quietly.

“I have a broken leg, how do you think?” the soldier snapped back.

Sam did not even bother responding. So much for being a kind soul, he thought to himself. Seconds later, Saphira threw up a fist halting the group.

“Ready yourselves, I have a feeling company is real close,” she whispered.

Sam could only guess as to what was going through his leader’s head at that moment, but he was pretty sure that it was close to what was going through his. Plain and simple, we are about to get messed up.

JB nodded to Sam, without a word spoken the two eased their wounded ally up against a nearby tree. Both, Sam and JB, were needed in combat, should in ensue, and holding up one would doom the whole team. JB handed the soldier his weapon with a glib, “Point and shoot.”

The air was electric with silence. Pressure was building on each of the troopers’ shoulders. Each was on pins and needles, ready at the slightest of movement to fire without a second thought. To Sam it felt as if the temperature in his armor had risen a good ten degrees as the sweat dribbled down his face.

Come on, just hurry it up. What is taking them? Sam thought. It was unusual; the brutes had not ever been ones for holding off on an attack. They’ve always just bolted in swinging away in rage. Sam looked towards the group leader for any sign of picking up and heading out on their way again, but to no avail.

It very well could have been a gut reaction to nothing, but in Sam’s experience, gut reactions can save lives. In situations like these cautiousness is not ever unwarranted.

The tension in the air could be cut with a knife and any sudden movements would break it into pure chaos. The racing hearts of the team was nearly audible. Off in the distance, a roll of thunder sounds. Saphira stands and signals for the team to continue on. The sigh of relief eases the minds of all near. JB and Sam head back to the soldier against the tree. They hoist him to his feet and prepare to move out.

A barbarian turned the corner its bewildered eyes focused on Rogue standing behind an E-web. Too late; the E-web opened up, spewing two thousand bolts a minute. Rogueboy was not dumb enough to waste a minute firing at a single barbarian; particularly when they only lasted about a second and a half.

Thinking of how anything could survive for long in an E-web RB pondered where his squad was. His reverie was intruded upon when the door to the room that RB was in, unceremoniously opened. As fast as he could Rogue turned and pulled out his blaster pistol before quickly realizing this was not a good idea; unable to support his body wait on his bad knee he fell over. Instinctively bracing himself was another bad idea so to speak as his finger tightened on his blaster’s trigger. The bolt went wide of Havock, who immediately flipped out on Rogue. “Rogueboy, what the fuck?” She yelled.

Grunting in pain, Rogue’s hand immediately went to apply pressure to his knee which was his third and final bad idea. Gritting his teeth together Rogue responded with as much irony as he could. “Sorry Havvy, I’d dance an apology for you but I can’t even do that.”

Havock quickly saw Rogue’s knee and called Karash over through the comlink. “Karash found Grahim.” She stated.

“How’s the crazy Gungan doing?” Rogue asked inquiring to know if Grahim had indeed survived.

“Missing a chunk of his ear but otherwise doing ok, what the hell happened to your knee?” Havock asked, the amount of concern in her voice would have been hard to miss.

Trying to brush it off in an attempt not to scare the trooper Rogueboy responded. “It looks worse than it is, must’ve been a crossbow bolt from a far distance. Otherwise I would be lucky to even have a leg right now. Did you guys know Baretz is dead?”

The pause in Havock’s stance gave Rogue the impression that this was the first she had heard of Baretz. Unfortunately for Havock her helmet did not permit Rogue to see her eyes. “I saw him open up the door, damn barbarian charged him. I wasn’t able to swing the E-web around because of the window frame. Anyways he got an axe embedded in his…” Rogue was interrupted.

“Enough!” Hav cried. “I saw, we all saw. The poor bastard was unarmed and they slaughtered him.”

“Uh…last I saw of Baretz he stuck a knife in the barbarian’s throat before it…got him. I mean it was going to…you know kill him anyways but I think Baretz got him before he died.” Rogue had always been bad of talking about the fallen; his belief in death did not give him a reason to be sensitive when discussing it. All things that are born will die, regardless of how powerful they are. Many people feared death because no one has died for longer than a day and came back to talk about it, people naturally assume the worst. For all they know death was endless beer, dirty girls, and midgets.

Havvy’s response was cut off before it even began by the arrival of Grahim and Karash. “What’s wrong?” The medic quickly asked.

“Most likely a broken kneecap, think I’ll need an hallucinogenic and a beer.” Rogue joked.

A quick series of mini-tests were performed on Rogue. “Does this hurt?” Karash would ask as he squeezed parts of the black under glove avoiding pressing the plastoid plates.

“Best I can do is break it, reset it, and give him crutches for the rest of the mission.” Karash announced before continuing. “However I do not feel comfortable resetting it since I don’t have a scan of the bones. I could prevent him from ever walking on that leg again. I highly recommend giving him crutches.” Karash finished his diagnostic.

“Where are we going to get crutches?” Rogueboy asked the same time that Ron asked over the comlink.

“I would suggest checking the doctor’s house slash office or search for a substitute.” Karash said.

Havock knelt down as she covered another detpack with dirt. Part of her wondered why in the hell she volunteered for this crazy job. Rogueboy suggested they rig some detpacks to a pressure sensor, that way if anyone stepped on it…bam!

Of course, Havock was far from a combat engineer. She longed for a vehicle, any vehicle. She could rig a vehicle to blow up in so many ways, but these things were making her nervous. Meticulously she set the boobytraps up and overly precise when she logged their location into her data pad.

Her hands shook as she lifted them from the covered detpack, she was holding her breath. “Whew.” Havock brushed the sweat from her brow with a gloved wrist. Squatting, Hav rested her elbows on her knees and looked out at the village and forest beyond.

The buildings had pitched roofs and were tall. It looked like something out of a children’s holonovel, if they weren’t surrounded by death it would almost be quant. The forest stretched as far as the eye could see around the village, but there was a clearance between the first buildings and the thick trees.

Havock was on the north-west road, she had already placed detpacks on the west, and south-west road. They needed to figure out how to cover the main road, the center road running north-south. Wraiths and RAIDERS were split at that point, and it was a weak spot for both. They were running dangerously low on detpacks.

Havock wiped her hands and stood up, taking a deep breath as she did. The rain was dripping down at a slow pace, Havock didn’t have her helmet on she needed all the vision she could get setting up the traps. Taking a few steps backwards, Hav turned and snatched up her helmet as she walked back towards the town. She stumbled a little, an effect of not sleeping enough and her head which still ached.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she walked up to the building which contained Rogue, Karash and Raelene. Rogue was trying out the crutches Karash and Rae had cobbled together using things they found, his leg was bandaged with a splint to keep the knee from moving.

“Hav, everything set up?” Rogue was practicing standing on the crutches as he spoke.

Havock leaned against the doorframe, closing her eyes to rest them. “I set up three detpacks in each of the roads, except the main road. We still need to come up with a plan for that one. We are almost out of detpacks though. Oh and don’t forget the AA guns, they are rigged to remote detonate.”

Rouge nodded and glanced at Karash, they had obviously been talking about something just before Havock got there. “Good, well Rae and Grahim can handle the north-south road. I can tell them what to do. You need to rest.”

Havock frowned and wiped her face, her hair was dripping from the incessant slow rain that had been falling. “No, I’m fine. How are we going to cover the roads? The E-webs should be good where they are I think. What do you think?”

Hav’s eyes scanned the three other troopers, she met their blank stares evenly. They were looking at Havock like she had lost her mind. Maybe she had.

Havock shook her head and pulled out the datapad. “I’m just going to go give Jae and Ron these locations. I’ll be back.”

“Hav…”

“I’m fine!” Havock turned and yelled at the room. She chewed on her lip and rubbed her face, she really didn’t mean to yell like that. “I’m sorry. But I’m not going to just sit around and rest when we need to get stuff done.” Some of the words slurred, which was another bad sign, but Havock didn’t give them the chance to argue. She turned on her heel and walked down the street towards the communications hub.

Joamer slumped to the floor, his feet spread out in front of him. His head rolled slowly down to let his chin touch his chest. He fought his eyelids, while his hands rested on top of the DLT-20a sitting cross ways on his lap. His DC-15, sat propped beside him on the wall.

He could feel the last rays of sunlight shine in the open window, but they did nothing to stop the drowsiness that had suddenly taken hold of him. For the better part of three days, ever since the mortar team es court mission he had been popping stims, but now they did nothing for him. His body had hit the point of exhaustion, under orders from Helena he had grudgingly stumbled into the command center and slipped to the floor.

The defenses were nearly complete thankfully. His eyes drifted shut for an instant as he remembered what had taken place in the past ten hours.

They had begun work before sunrise, trying to come up with a decent defensive plan, what they came up with would work, for a time. On their three roads they had planted detpacks on the inside walls of the buildings, designed to push the walls outward into the street when triggered. In theory this would block off a good portion of the road. Five of the seven houses had been setup this way. The problem was the road was wider then the estimated blast radius, so they decided to set up detpacks down the center lane, they placed them with pressure sensitive triggers.

They had ransacked the houses, tossing out every piece of furniture they could find into the street. To someone who did not know it would look like a cluttered mess, but if you knew the trick you could run the maze at full speed and not hit anything.

Where the streets converged near the center of town, they had placed their mortar teams and the E-web. This gave them full view of all the streets, and it allowed them to stay put until they had been pushed back to this point. They all figured if the mortars had to be moved it would be to late, they had planted them to the ground and built up a last wall of defense. If they had been pushed to this point, the odds of surviving dropped drastically.

They estimated they could hold the streets for five hours if luck was on their side, when they hit the mortar bunker, they could hold for another hour. Their last place of refuge at that point would be the town hall, three people spent four hours making that place a fortress. With whoever survived from both squads hold up inside they could hold out for maybe a day. Luckily the walls were thick stone with reinforced joints, the flat roof, one of only a hand full in the town was set three stories up, and it allowed a good number of people to shoot from concealed positions. The windows had been boarded up, the doors were a half foot thick, the solid wood was some sort of oak. They had reinforced the locks and bolts with metal rods shot into the ground.

The real problem they had, and something they could not figure out a defense for was still the main north-south roadway. It had proven to be the ultimate conundrum, they did not have enough men, or explosives to setup an adequate defense.

They prayed they would get backup before the defenses had to be tested, but doubting this they emptied the remaining houses and built a barricade six feet high and five feet in width along the main entrance to the town. The mortar teams had been instructed to swing around and cover that road at all costs, it was more luck then any real plan they gambled on.

If they were attacked by an army of twenty, they could hold. The estimates got suddenly worse when you hit the two hundred mark. If more came, their defenses would not hold long. Long enough to claim justice for the men, woman, and children murdered here, but not to claim justice to the men and woman of the Empire who would fall, and have fallen on this planet.

A slow shake of his head, more a twitch then anything brought him back from the edge of sleep.

He cracked open his eyes just as Helena walked into the room, she wore an angry scowl, and it was directed at him.

"I ordered you to sleep, not to fight sleep." She said.

"Sorry, ma'am." He said, it came out more a mumbled mush then anything.

"You have done enough for the time being, let the other members of the squad take care of the remaining jobs. Sleep, that is an order."

He thought he heard her walk out, but he could not be sure. By the time his chin had touched his chest again he was asleep.

The rain, over the past few days, had been brief, coming in bursts of hard rain and then disappearing for a few hours. Jori always had liked the rain, but not like this. It was comforting to sit under a shelter and watch a light rain come down and hear the soft pitter patter of droplets hitting the roof. But this rain was harder than that, it actually hurt. Cursing as another short rain shower started up again, he walked through the mud, kicking off whatever clung to his boots. He looked over all the defenses they had put up so far and tried to think of more. It was hard going because they had limited resources and an uncertain amount of time until the barbarians attacked so they couldn’t spend too much time on one line of defense.

We have a good chance of repelling whatever forces come at us from any direction except for that big road. At least for a little while. So the main worry is what defenses to put on that road. None that we have tried so far will work because there aren’t enough detpacks to effectively cover it. There isn’t enough furniture to make a maze like the others, but wait. What if we didn’t use the furniture…

Turning to gaze at the house beside him, Jori quickly raised a boot and kicked, eyes widening as the rotting wood gave way.

“That’s it!” he shouted.

As fast he could, Jori ran towards where he thought Kand might be. Opening the door, he burst in and looked around for Kand. Spotting him in a corner, Jori bounded over. Kand looked confused for a little bit until Jori started talking. Crouching down, he began.

“I think I may have an idea for the defense of the main North/South road. Most of the houses are rotting, though some are strong, right? Well, what I think we can do is break down the houses in the middle of the town and carry the wood to the road. Using that wood, we can arrange it where it’ll basically be a barricade with some points open to purposefully let barbarians through. When they go through there, we’ll shoot at them and when they go down, that’ll be all the more obstacles the next barbarians have to go through. We can put dets in spots around those points in case the barbarians make it through our fire and get farther than we expected. We can sharpen some of the stronger wood from the houses and put them in the ground right beside the barricade on our side so that if they decide to go over the barricade, they will land on the sharpened wood, impaling them and allowing us to shoot them before they get any further.” Jori said quickly, wide eyed in excitement.

Kand looked thoughtful for a few moments and started nodding.

“That just might work.” he said with a grin.

Soon, after everybody was told of the plan, they set to work. All the rotting wood was easy to get while the hard wood took a bit of time because it was so strong. Soon they had all the wood they could get without taking down the outer ring of houses and they began to work on the barricades. Slowly, it took shape and the sun had just begun to set when they finished building it. Quickly, they dug holes near the open points and placed detpacks in them with pressure sensitive plates over them. After they had finished, Jori stood back and looked at it.

“It’s not perfect, but it’s better than nothing.” Jori said to no one in particular.

That takes care of some of the N/S road. Like the post said, its not perfect, but its better than nothing.

Rats... At this rate we'll be there when I'm old...

Saphira thought after they had started to move again. The thunder they heard could have been the real deal, or something else was going on. She couldn't help but think of Doc and the rest of the team out there. Not to mention the other squads who had harder missions she supposed.

"Sarge! Wait up.. We have to slow down.." Came Sam as he trotted up to her. His armor making a little more noise then normal. Twisting her masked face over to him she kept up the pace they were moving at.

" We can't afford to. Everyone is jumpy and the others are counting on us to get there." She replied back with a bittersweet tone.

"We have injured Saph -" Was as far as he got when she stopped, turned and pointed her E-11 at his chest. Everyone else stopped and watched. Some with hands on their own weapons.

"Listen, and listen well.. It's Not Saph, It's Gunny Sargent... Secondly, I don't like it either that we have wounded, but we have to move on. Those things ain't going to care that we have slowed down, or have wounded. We have a mission do finish." Her arm never wavered as Sam stood still as a rock. Her head turned to the others and had they seen her face it would be filled with blood rage in her expression. "I know You're all tired and hurt. We have wounded.. But we still have a job. We make it together. If you have to carry your comrades, then so be it." Saphira explained to everyone else as she lowered her blaster. Snapping her head back to Sam, "Are we clear?"

"Yes.." Sam replied with anger in his voice.

"If it makes you feel better.. Makeshift something to carry him on.. But we keep the pace.. Or would you rather they end up dead?" She was starting to get angry, but quickly people started to move and using what they had made a makeshift bed to carry their man with the broken leg on. It took less then an hour with that many people. Saphira was tired and those not working rested and drank a little water or ate a ration bar. After it was completed they stood and started to walk again.

"Gunny?" JB said as he caught up while two others carried the injured.

"Yes?" She replied as the pace quickened.

"What happens if we're attacked again?"

"You better pray to what god you have then that we aren't.."

Jelly blinked in shock behind his helmet. Never had he seen her in such a mood. Ruthless yes, but it was as if she had no heart at all right now.

"Yes Gunny.." Came the reply and they moved on. JB knew what that statement meant. If they were attacked again, they may loose the lives of those that were now relying on them as well.

Karash had spent the last hour or so trying to get Rogue in state where he could walk and not have to be sent back for emergency treatment but in this so called medical centre there was nothing to make crutches from so Karash and Rae had to make them from rubble. There were not perfect but they would stop any permanent damage as well as making him as comfortable as possible.

"Havock is looking very tired." said Rae.

"I know but she refuses to rest and I can't force her to do anything." replied Karash.

"Well knock her the hell out." Rogue suddenly began to speak. "And why can't I have any pain meds?"

"I have told you that I have to ration them and your pain looks bearable. Now quiet this sounds like her." Karash was right because Hav then walked in.

She really was showing signs of fatigue as she was slightly hunched and deep circles seemed to engulf her bloodshot eyes not only this she swayed every now and then also slurred her speech; she appeared to be drunk in actual fact. Hav searched the room with her eyes and could tell that something was not right and looked uncomfortable.

“Good, well Rae and Grahim can handle the north-south road. I can tell them what to do. You need to rest.” It was not long before she began to speak again “...I’m just going to go give Jae and Ron these locations. I’ll be back.”

“Hav…” Karash, Rae and Rogue seemed to speak all at once.

“I’m sorry. But I’m not going to just sit around and rest when we need to get stuff done.” Havock then rushed out of the building.

The three remaining troopers looked at each other for a moment before they all made there way to got after her. "Rogue stay off that leg for as long as possible and Rae keep him looked after, I'll deal with Havock." Karash said as he left.

Karash had no idea what he was going to say or do but if something was not done she would end up endangering herself and the entire squad; she was making her way across the road to the location where Ron and Jae were.

"Hav... Havock wait!" Karash shouted but there was no reply. "very well then... Lance Corporal Ayme Katash stop!"

Havock stopped dead in her spot and tuned to Karash, she gave a soul defying look that was far worse than anything that the barbarians could give. "I am not in mood for your petty comments Karash or any other your stupid 'medical facts' now go away." She looked like she could fall down at any moment.

"Havock you need to sleep and if necessary I will get Jae to hold you down while i put you to sleep!" Karash had no idea why he was becoming this involved after all it wasn't his business and he did not usually like to get involved.

"I would like to see you try." She scowled before turning around once again.

"Havock I am no longer speaking to you as a squad mate or as medic but as a... friend." The words actually left Karash's lips he had managed to say friend, he had never called anybody a friend before and felt strange to do so now.

At that moment Hav stopped and turned once again but this time she looked at Karash in a more vulnerable way and looked as though she about to relent to what he had said; this moment was odd because they both realised something about themselves. Karash knew that he did actually care about his squad mates and Hav realised she could accepted help even if she did not want to.

"Okay Karash but no meds, I will sleep myself but only for a bit." A small grin was now on Hav's face.

"Good I hope you realise how much of a pain you are becoming?" Karash was trying to return to his usual self.

It was then that the squads SL and ASL appeared and looked very strangely at the troopers "What are you two doing."

"Havock has decided to regain a sense of conscious stability." replied Karash.

"What the hell are you talking about?" said Jae.

"I going to have a rest." answered Hav.

"Why didn't you just say that and its about time you did. I didn't want to have to make ya." Jae said in a joking fashion.

"Pfft." Karash said in response to Jae first words.

"Anyway, we need to talk about what we going to do. We need to get the squad together." said Ron.

"I think we should do it here because Rogue still can't really walk." suggested Karash.

Jae looked worried by Karash's words and quickly made her way into the building; Karash did not know what her problem was but he could guess what was going on. "Very well, the coms are fixed and I have spoken with Kand."

As the remaining troopers made there way into the building it began to rain once again and hopefully dissuade any more attacks at least for the time being because no one really wanted to have to fight again.

The sun was setting, at least Havock assumed it was. The cloud cover made it impossible to know, and the rain continued to fall off and on. Jae walked fast enough to be considered a slow run, towards the room they were going to use as a meeting place. Havock shook her head and slowly made her way in the same direction. Ron crossed the threshold in front of Havock and Karash.

Havock stumbled and Karash put a hand on her shoulder to steady her. “You know I'm starting to think that Jae and Rogueboy are together.”

Havock gave Karash an incredulous stare. “Well, duh.”

Karash snapped his head towards Havock, but his retort died on his tongue. His hard face melted causing Hav to snicker. Kar shrugged then the two of them walked into the room. All of the RAIDERS had already assembled and were sitting on pieces of rubble strewn through the room.

Havock found a spot against the wall and slid to the floor, her head leaned lazily against the wall. She glanced over at Jae, who was sitting very close to RB. The two of them were talking softly to one another. Hav smirked and looked at Karash. Who was looking at the two of them wide-eyed and mouth gaping. Less than from the two of them being together and more from the fact that he really hadn't noticed until now.

Ron looked around the room making eye contact with all of the squad members before starting.

“I'm going to keep this brief. We have some fortifications set up on the three main west roads, if we need to fall back to the main north-south road we can use whatever we can find in the buildings over there to set up barricades then use them to fall back to. We need two people on each of the west roads to act as look outs, first line of defense. The rest of us will be where the roads converge. This is basically the same thing the Wraths are doing, and yes the comm works again, I've been in contact with Kand.”

Havock rubbed her forehead, trying to take in all of the information. She hated to admit it but she was beyond tired. Looking around she could see that Rae looked both tired and scared, Grahim subconsciously kept touching his ear where it had been blown off, Beta stood with his arms crossed near the wall opposite Havock.

Ron took a deep breath and scooted his foot for a moment before continuing. “We can do this, we are RAIDERS. I know you all are dealing with a lot right now. But I know we will come out on top. Because we always do.”

Havock had to admit the speech actually made her feel better. She believed Ron, it was something about the way he said it, the faith he had.

“Good, now lets get ready. Grahim, Rae and Beta you guys get those barricades up, take whatever detpacks we have left and rig it up. The rest of you know what you need to do. Lets move out.”

Grahim, Raelene and Beta left the building to get to work on the barricades.

Ron walked over to Karash. “How are we on medical supplies?”

Karash shook his head and looked at the squad leader. “Not well, I'm rationing the pain meds now. The other supplies are equally dwindling.”

Ron nodded and rubbed his eyes, he looked pretty tired himself. “Okay, I'll trust you to keep an eye on that.”

Karash had an expression that said, of course I'll keep an eye on that isn't that my job. But he smartly grumbled a simple, “yes, sir” to his squad leader.

Ron walked over to where Havock was sitting and knelt in front of her. Havock looked up at him with a blank expression. “Havock, you look like hell.”

Havock squinted, it was the only way to make his face come into focus. “Nice to see you too, boss.”

“Go to sleep, now. Or I will knock you out, meds or not. You hear me Lance Corporal.” Ron spoke in a serious tone, but his voice was full of concern.

Hav smirked, “Yeah, I hear you.”

Ron patted Hav's shoulder, his mouth worked like he wanted to say something else. Instead he stood and went to checking the location of all the fortifications.

Havock watched him as she let her eyes drift closed and her head tiled to the side to rest on a pile of rubble next to her.

It was starting to get dark by the time their little party moved around the forest and stayed as quiet as they could. Saphira was sure Sam was in a foul mood for what she said. Yet she was ASL and they were under her orders. Had he even attempted to try anything he would have been down.. She thought some time later as she sighed. The stress level was so tense it could choke any of them right now. It was a bad sign, and Saph had been in enough situations to see that one wrong move could set someone off.

"We're almost there.. Keep it up guys. It's over the hill and we should be there before it's too dark." She replied with hope in her voice. Hope was all they had at the moment. No one knew if the brutes could see well enough in the dark or not, but at least at the downed ship they would have some cover.

"Easy for you to say. We could be lost for all you know." Came Draca's voice from behind them. Not even looking back, she squeezed her hand around her blaster handle tightly. As if she was picturing her hand around his throat.

"Ease up. I know the way. I was given the coordinates. Soon as we are there you can relax. The others need us."

"You keep saying that.. and we've been marching for hours.." He complained.

Just count to ten and breath... She thought, keeping the pace. So far they had been lucky enough not to encounter another group of the enemy. "We will be alright."

They pressed on and for a few minutes more until they heard some crunching and movement in the brush and trees to their right. Everyone froze and Saph signaled to have everyone take cover. Moving slowly she lifted her E-11 into a ready position and pushed a branch aside. Brock tried to follow her when she let go and it whacked him in the helmet and he stumbled back. Rolling her eyes she hoped it wasn't heard. Calm easy.. Saphira thought as her pulse beat faster against her throat. The sound seemed different. It could be anything at this point. Another moment she shot up and was face to face with another masked trooper.

"Stop!"
"Saph?!"

She paused and lowered her weapon.

"Doc?"

"In the flesh." He chuckled under his helmet before taking it off. His face was matted with sweat as well as her own as she took hers off.

"I.. We've been jumpy. Glade to see your all ok?" She asked and cocked her head to the side slightly. Her Lek'ku flickered as she glanced over to see everyone else.

"I can see that."

"Least you made it through. No time to chat though. We need to go."

"Won't argue with you there. " Doc turned and nodded to everyone else as they created a path and walked back to her group.

"Whoa. Now this is one good piece of news I've seen all day!" Brock replied as the rest of their squad and Alpha's came together.

"Right you are.. Now let's go. We took care of the ones behind us.. But not sure ahead. Lets move.." Doc replied. Saphira nodded and placed her helmet back on as Doc nodded to two of his men and had them trade off carrying her wounded to give the others some rest. With new vigor and hope they marched onward and over the hill and sure enough there was the downed ship. Thank god... Lets hope what we find is good..

They sped up and vigor was renewed in the troops. Though they wern' tout of the woods yet as they reached the fighter. there was no pilot waiting for them.

"Sithspit... Where is the pilot?" Doc replied as people took their helmets off.

"Calm down.. He's gotta be around here somewhere. If one of those things got here we would have known." Came her reply. "Right now we need to make a perimeter. I'm sure the pilot is around here somewhere."

"Right!" Came a few replies and off they went as Doc and her went towards the ship to look for anything useful that could be used to everyones advantage. The thing itself was a wreck, metal was twisted and pieces were scattered on the landscape.

"Well, it's damaged. Won't fly again.. But I think we can find something to work with." Saphira replied.

"Good.. Let's get this going while the others are busy. Find anything that might prove useful... "

"Yes Sir!" Saph replied and smiled as she jumped up and took hold of part of the cockpit and started to look inside.

Sam and Broc walked along side the west end of the downed ship. There was even more pieces of metal on their side then they first saw in the wreckage. As it grew darker, they switched to night vision and sat up markers.

"Do you think the pilot is really alive?" Brock spoke up. Sam looked over at him.

"Not sure. You would think once we got here he would be happy to see us. Besides, there's places to hide, co uld be anywhere." He replied.

"What makes you think the pilot is a he? Could be a she?" Brock replied and chuckled.

"You're right.. But if it is.. I'd watch it.." He replied.

"Why?" He tilted his head to the side as they approached a side of what looked like a covered hole in a large tree. Branches were littered around the ground and it was obvious that part of the ship had possibly hit it.

"Do you really want to even try pulling something around another female? Haven't you learned your last lesson from Striker?" Sam grinned.

"Nah.. It be nice to comfort a scared female for a change.." Brock started to say something else before Sam punched him in the shoulder and made him stumble.

"Hey! At least I'm trying to be funny.. You're the one that got the E-11 pointed at your face..."

"Don't remind me of that.." Sam replied, and ignored Brocks laughter. It was then they approcahed the tree when something caught their attention. Part of a boot was sticking out from the tree. Without a word Sam rushed over and pulled the branches away and found the pilot inside. Still in most of his gear he looked like hell.

"Is he?" Brock replied. Sam pressed his fingers to the mans throat and felt a pulse.

"No, Just knocked out. Looks like he needed it. We'll need to get him back to the others and get medical attention. Looks like he has a broken arm and collar bone. Must have ran for safety here and covered himself before dosing a sleep aid." Sam said. Without another word He pressed a com into Doc.

----------

"Find anything yet?" Saphira replied as she tore through the cockpit. It looked like pieces were melted together. The Stick was twisted and she could smell the feint scent of burnt electronics. It didn't look good.

"Not yet. Just keep -.. Hold on.. " Doc replied.

"What is it?" She replied and poked her head up to see him holding a finger up. Saph didn't have to know twice it was a message from someone.

"Doc.. It's Sam. Brock and I found the Pilot..."

"Is he alive?"

That caught her attention and she just stared at her SL with attentiveness. Unlike the others, her species could see even better in the dark so she could see the expression on his face was astounding. Not to mention if anything does come at us I have more of a chance seeing them first...

"Yes Sir.. He needs medical attention. Looks like a broken collar bone and arm. Not sure about anything else. I'm no Field Medic expert. But he dosed himself with something. Found him inside a hull of a tree."

"Good to hear something. Get him back and we'll go from there."

He cut the transmission and looked to her. Riq did not even have to say a thing as she nodded and went back to trying to open part of the ship.

"It's like this thing was burnt on impact. I'm surprised the pilot lived.. and that the brutes haven't been here."

"I think our arrival got their attention.. Just keep trying.." Doc replied.

Cursing in smugglers argot she went and brought out her vibroblade and sliced into the melted components. It took several more minutes and Doc trying to keep her from just trashing anything that might be worth finding before she got through. Around the same time Brock, Sam and the injured pilot came back and their SL was over with another medic taking care of him.

When this is over with I am taking a hot shower, and then going to make sure next time we're more prepped for something like this...

Another hour went by and they stabilised the pilot. He was in and out of consciousness, but relaxed after they set his broken bones and gave him a few bacta patches. When Riq tried to ask about the ship he couldn't say. Too weak and tired there was nothing they could get out of him. Then, as Riq walked back up to the ship Saph tossed a panel of the ship out and barley missed hitting their SL.

"Hey! Saphira.. Watch what you're tossing.."

No sound came from her, as her eyes opened wide when she found what they needed. It wa slightly damaged but built down in the flooring of the ship.

"Striker!" His voice came again and she shook her head, Lek'ku twitching with excitement as she ignored the irritation of his voice. With care, she took out a radio type object with a screen on it. It was scratched, but not as damaged as she thought from the way the rest of the junk was.

"Sorry Sir! I found something!" She replied with excitement and came out. Handing it over to him as she climbed out of the ship. It only took a few moments as they worked on it, giving it a power source and copying it over for their uses. It gave screenings of the landscape and showed several enemy encampments that were in the area.

"Great job! I need to send this over to the other Squads.. Hopefully it's not too late for them to use it.." He replied and walked off a few feet and sent messages out to the rest of the Squad SL's. With a smile on her face she breathed easy and looked to the others.

"We're good for now. And in a safer area. There's nothing around us for a few miles as far as the enemy camps. Just stay alert and start watches until we get further Directions!" Saphira replied. Those with helmets off smiled and she felt allot of tension lift from most of the troopers. She could only hope it was going well for the other Squads....
