Bum bum bum...that music sounds good!

Squall began head banging as he packed his equipment tightly into duffle, suited up in his SnowTrooper armor, his helmet in his right hand.  The armory was a good place to hang out and listen to the radio, Squall hadn't done it in years.

The death of the new trooper had been affecting all of the troopers thus far, but Squall hadn't taken a moment to grieve with all of the new information coming in about the new mission.  He was pumped up more than he had been in a long time, and this time he would give it his all.  No let downs.

The music was blaring as Squall finished packing in his explosives and other things to be used for his Combat Engineer improvisions.  The maps on his datapad had been running through his mind since he had gotten them.  The entire Squad had been running through tactics all day after the briefing.  With the entire coalltion of the Army's forces, they would be able to take down the enemies in no time at all.  Many troopers had been training up lately, things were going quite well.

Squall exited the armory with a smile on his face.  He knew that things were going to be good this time, but yet he would concentrate fully now on his mission and the objectives.  It was almost time to get serious, and meditiation would help him out greatly.

Bum bum bum, bum bum bum

"Darr," Squall called out to his Squad Leader.  The man had been good to him recently over the few fueds they had had, but things were getting better overall in the squad.  Predator had a small smile on his face, teeth glaring as he spotted Squall.  It made him feel a lot better about things.

"Welcome, I see you have your things packed," said Darr, "Ready to go?"

"Yeap, good to go.  Just waiting now..." said Squall

Durandal looked down at his cards, the game was going horribly. He sighed and folded the cards, stashing them under the seat . He looked up to see Gunny Kams and Zafo to pull away, a smile on Kami's face showing she trusted him, which meant Durandal could. He felt reassured knowing that.

He felt the rumble of the ship and leaned down, grabbing his helmet, and pulling it over his head, sealing the suit. He warmed it up and went through one last systems check. All green.

He wanted to hold his E-11 but it was on the rack over his head. He watched as everyone tensed to the rumble of the ship. They were going out, and the great silence before battle dawned over them for a moment. But the moment soon passed as the Senior Sarge smiled and stood up.

"Now, i'm not one for speeches, so don't expect a wonderful one from me, but we are one of the greatest squads in the Vast Empire. And as such, when we get down there, I know you all will make me proud. But just to be safe, keep your heads low, and try not to get shot just to get off to med-bay while the rest of us earn our pay." He smiled and looked at Kael, and we smiled with him, knowing who he meant by that joke.

Kael smiled sheepishly back and Durandal couldn't help but smile behind his helmet.  Durandal stood up and picked his legs up gingerly, trying to get used to the thicker armor. He sat back down and huffed, looking at the other troopers.

As he felt the ship rise and heard the engine whine louder he closed his eyes to catch a wink of sleep.

Preditor leaned on the counter as he patiently waited for his armor as the man behind the counter was searching for snowtrooper armour that would fit the Barabel. Finally Preditor heard a satisfied grunt of agreement and the man came back to the counter Preditor could smell the fear in him and knew he didn't have good news.

"Uhh...Sir? This isn't an exact fit but it's the closest we have, but there is no room for a tail."

"This one has a solution, just give it the armour."

With trembling hands the man handed over the armor and as Preditor began to turn around the man whispered.

"I...ne..ed your sig...nature."

Preditor turned around and stared long and hard at the man who seemed paralyzed with fear all of a sudden Preditor's eyes opened wide as he picked up a strong scent coming from the man. Preditor let out a hiss of laughter before signing his name on the paper and leaving the man with brown pants.

Preditor entered his room at the barracks and prepared to make a few adjustments to his gear. While he did not need snowtrooper armour because he was cold blooded he thought it best not to argue that with his commanders. Preditor used his claws to tear a hole into the armours back end in order to let his tail move around freely. Preditor pulled out his datapad and looked at the time he was slightly behind schedule, he quickly grabbed his equipment and headed towards the door taking a long look back.

A mischievous glint appeared in Kael's eye as he glanced at  at the cards in front of him. He slowly sorted each one before laying them out on the small table in which some of the Dragoon's were sitting.

"Sabacc my friends"

He flashed his most annoying grin at his squad mates as he pulled the small pile of credits, money cards and candy over to himself.

Durandal sighed in frustration, muttering under his breath as he stashed his cards away. Kael continued to grin as Sam stood too speak

""Now, i'm not one for speeches, so don't expect a wonderful one from me, but we are one of the greatest squads in the Vast Empire. And as such, when we get down there, I know you all will make me proud. But just to be safe, keep your heads low, and try not to get shot just to get off to med-bay while the rest of us earn our pay."" He looked pointedly at Kael who did not lose the grin marring his face.

Sam sat and the Dragoons sunk into silent thought at the mission ahead of them, the thought that not all of them would make it back was there for all of them.

Kael's thoughts quickly turned to brooding

Fantastic, first live mission and it's against Thrawn's damn army

Hundreds of images of himself dying flashed before his eyes before he chased those thoughts away, glancing down he saw that he had clenched his hands tightly

Don't be nervous, your gonna make it through this, just concentrate on the mission

Sighing aloud he once again activated his datapad and ran through mission data.....anything to keep his mind off death.

Snipes slumbered mostly peacefully, the occasional stir of a lewd dream or a glimpse of home were the only things to disturb him, well, at first anyway, then through the haze of sleep he felt something breathing on his face, this led into even more weird dreams, some lewd, some horrific, the last one involving some sort of ugly face leech woke Snipes up.

Snipes sat bolt upright from where he'd slid onto the floor, a few seconds and he was oriented, for some reason Yoder caught his eye, hugging his legs in the corner.

"You've been sleeping a long time."

"Err. . .right." Snipes said, before picking up and moving next to Yillis.

He had no more sat down than the intercom came on. "Fifteen minutes till we exit hyperspace."

This had the unfortunate effect of waking everyone up at once, and their various groans and gurgles created a symphony of sorts. Snipes just sighed and got up, found his snowtrooper armor, and started putting it on. He was fairly upset with the final product, it was big, uncomfortable, in the ship it was too damn hot, Snipes had to go find the environmental controls and turn the temperature in their ship way down. Snipes sneered and grabbed up his commando armor, packing it securely into his duffle bag, the silenced pistol and knives, along with a disassembled whisper rifle, he doubted he'd use it, it'd been a long time since he'd picked up a long rifle and he wasn't overly fond of doing it again, he preferred not having to aim so much. His new Stormtrooper II carbine would go with him, the snowtrooper armor didn't really allow for carrying much else. It did have a heated canteen full of water and some scarce cold survival equipment on the utility belt, but Snipes knew it wasn't enough to do very much good.

Snipes cast his eyes around again, and laughed when he noticed Yoder either had his armor on backwards or his helmet, and considering how much stumbling around he was doing Snipes assumed it was the latter. Snipes jabbed Yillis in the ribs and pointed over, they both took a good laugh before Yillis got up and pulled Yoders helmet off, turned it around and gave it back to him. Snipes chuckled a little more, then let it die down, he was quickly surprised to find Tnepres sitting on his other side, then Yillis back in his spot, slowly the squad began finding places to sit and try to adjust to their new armor. Snipes was left to assume moving around in that armor made you too damn hot, even with the environment controls set so low.

Snipes didn't like cold weather, in fact he hated it, he liked it hot and sunny, with a beach and senoritas, this cold miserably climate had nothing for him personally. He knew he was going to hate it. He'd met the 'clients' on a couple frozen worlds before, way back in a part of his past he never liked to think about, he had lost money a couple times because he hated being in the cold and instead of haggling he'd just left with what he could get.

Joy; more cold, more sweaty snow suites and probably no warm meals. Hmf.

Riqimo was starting to doze off during the meeting, all the excitement of deploying had winded down, leaving him with a mild headache from all the thoughts racing through his head.

Voices started to be drowned out by the humming in his head, then he found himself nudged on his right side.

"Riq, you all right?" Garet asked.

"Oh yeah, just need some rest," Riqimo replied when he realized that he had started napping, "Won't happen again."

"Okay, well we were talking about how the cold affects us and you told me earlier you had something to say about that."

"I did?" Riqimo jogged through his memory, "Oh, yeah.  About our weapons, we need to advoid excessive firing to prevent our weapons from heating up, and we must try to keep the snow off them as well.  The reason is simple, if the weapon heats up and snow or ice is on it, then once it cools, you will have a layer of ice on your weapon, which will decrease its effectiveness and cause it to possibly become unstable."

Jag looked at him strangely, "And how would you know this?"

Riqimo replied, yawning, "It was in the medic manual for cold climates, how to prevent exploding blasters so that you don't have to fix someone up."

"Ah... well we will try to avoid that then, anything else?" Garet asked the squad.

The room was silent.

"Great then, get some rest, especially you Riqqy, and we'll make our final arrangements when we make it to Illum."

Darr-Rann grinned as he saw Preditor running towards them. The Barabel was an odd sight, wearing corps uniform, people nervously edging around him to avoid his flailing tail as he proceeded towards his squad. They were aboard their transport, in the lounge. Darr-Rann had decided to organize them there while they waited for their arrival on the ice-world Illum.

"This one gives his apologies for his lateness." The lizard-man said, sitting down on a nearby bench. The seat groaned to support his weight.

"Don't worry about it, our transport isn't here yet anyways." Darr-Rann said, looking down at his datapad. "The ships shouldn't be much longer." He switched to his mission files.

"This is the perfect job to test our abilities Snowtrooping. This is exactly the kind of mission we're trained for." He said half to himself, half to his squad. "Interesting. It seems like we're going to be working closely with DD in the first stage of the operation."

He switched over to his holomail. He had some of the usual spam, along with a few letters. He saw one was from Dawn, and opened it. I wish we'd have had more time before getting sent out again. He thought to himself. They were both in the corps, and there were times when it was hard to see eachother amidst various missions. He closed the message, switching back to his work.

"We're equipped with our regular snowtrooping gear, along with our A280s. Additionally, we've got an E-Web and a Rocket launcher." He turned to face Aeos and Rogueboy. "You two can decide which of you gets what."

He drew out a deck of cards. We need to relax a bit. This is going to be an intense mission. "Anyone up for some sabaac?"

Jag listening intently to Garet about the mission at hand was surprised to see Riqimo asleep in his chair. Jag considering to nudge him awake didn't bother when Garet noticed and woke him up. Then he started talking about the weapons being over-heated and brought out his deecee-fifteen and started spinning it around his finger- with the safety on of course- when Garet noticed him he said, "Jag I told you not to bring any personal equipment. Why have you brought that?"

Jag looked up and replied, "Well I thought it might be useful to have an extra gun along..." Wishing he'd never brought the thing now.

Garet seemed to be pondering on whether to let Jag bring it but in the end decided, "No only bring your designated equipment."

Jag said, "Yes sir." Then Garet dismissed them and when he reached the room for eclipse nearly fell over all the medical stuff still strewn about the floor with Riqimo now fast asleep on the bunk that was supposed to be his because Riqimo's was covered still with medical supplies.

Jag not feeling tired at all started to pack Riqimo's things whilst he kept his pistol under the bunk until he got back from the mission. When he was finished he laid down on the bed and fell in an uneasy sleep until Garet came in shouting them a ten minute warning before they had to leave.

"Riqgy, wake up!  Come on Riq, time to go!" Jag was shaking Riqimo to wake him up.

"Huh?  We're there yet?" Riqimo asked rubbing his eyes.

Jelly turned around from his breakfast, "Almost, we get on our shuttle in about an fifteen minutes for the surface.  You better get your med  supplies together, Garet saw your mess last night."

Riqimo grinned as he started opening a ration pack, "Well, who is piloting our shuttle?  Some lady I know."

Jelly and Jag looked at each other and Jag motioned for Jelly to say something.

"Uh... guys?" Riqimo was starting to get uncomfortable.

Jelly tried to hide his grin, "Well, you remember that night at the bar last week?  We all picked up a date and you got the short blonde human and I got that wookiee?"

"Uh, yeah, Sarah for me... Selene for you... Why?"

Jag jumped in, "She's piloting."

Riqimo sprayed out his milk, "WHAT!"

Garet walked in right at that moment and looked at the milk on the bunks and then to Riqimo, "Do I want to ask?"

Riqimo meekly replied, "Uh, its nothing I, umm, coughed, err, what's happening?"

Jelly laughed, "We just told him the pilot of our shuttle is a girl he likes."

Garet stared at Riqimo, "You like this Sarah? I was just with her talking about the mission," Garet kept staring at Riqimo, and then burst out laughing, "If you want, we'll leave you two alone in the cockpit."

Riqimo stammered, "Guys, come on, its just coincidence."

"A funny one," Jag choked out though his laughter.

Riqimo turned away from his squad mates, and tried to drown out their laughter by playing his C-3POD. How the hell do these things always happen to me?

Jelly pointed Riqimo to Jag's bed since he didn't even want to disturb Riqimo's supplies. I hope he doesn't mind Jelly thought to himself while he walked out of the room. He tried to decide what to do with his free time as he walked down the corridor. Jelly's stomach rumbled I guess I'll go to the mess and find something to eat. He tried for the next thirty minutes to navigate to the mess hall through the maze of corridors.

"Hey" A tiny voice squeaked from behind him startling him. Jelly quickly turned to find Sarah Riqimo's girlfriend standing behind him.

"Oh hey Sarah umm I'm kinda lost can you point me to the mess hall." Jelly said back giving a little wave.

"Sure its through the door right behind you." She replied pointing behind him. "Thanks" He said quickly turning to leave but Sarah stopped him.

"Oh before you go I wanted to tell you I'll be your pilot for the mission."

Jelly grinned Jags is gonna love this one "Cool I'll inform the Squad then."

They said their farewells and parted at which Jelly ran into the mess hall. He quickly grabbed some food and shoved it on a plate and hurried back to the Bunk area. While in the hall He ran into Garet.

"Hello sir." Jelly stammered quickly but tried is best not to drop the plate and salute.

"Good morning Private " Garet said in greeting taking an apple off of Jelly's plate" Mind if I have this?"

"No sir go right ahead." Jelly said more calmly.

" Thank you" Garet said taking a bite out of it. Jelly turned to go on his way but Garet interrupted him "Please inform the squad that we will be  landing in thirty minutes." Garet then walked off.

"Yes Sir!" Shouted Jelly who then proceeded to the bunks without any further interruptions.

When he got there he explained everything to Jag who got a mischievous grin on his face from the mention of Sarah. Jelly went about eating his breakfast while Jag went to annoy Riqimo who was still asleep.

Rogueboy sat down and started up a game of Sabaac with the rest of his squad, just from glancing he could see that Preditor was not a very good sabaac player he eyes betrayed his emotion even if the rest of his body language was foreign and unreadable. Aph played smart and only stayed in when he had something, Darr was likewise, Aeos didn't really seem to care as they were only playing for small bets, Leon kept raising the pot even if he didn't have anything in his hands. Even though Rogue knew each and everyone's strategy his luck was just terrible and he never got dealt good cards.

After a few games of sabaac Rogue stepped out to get a breath of fresh air, leaving his helmet inside with the squad he took out his pack of cigarillos and lit one up taking a deep drawl the smoke exhaling out of his lungs. Rogue was nervous he had a deep sense of foreboding, he has heard stories of General Thrawn he is not known for his mercy. Rogue had one encounter with a Chiss and it wasn't very pleasant, Rogue had lost a lover but gained a head to add to his collection.

How many more men must I kill until I am satisfied? Don't think about it you will never know. Screw you I will think what I want to.

Rogue closed his eyes he never told anyone about the voices and perhaps he never will. Rogue threw the cigarillo on the floor and used his boot heel to crush it. Just like I will do to Thrawn's little army.

Darr-Rann glanced down at his hand and sighed. "I fold." He said, placing the cards down on the table - He wasn't about to match the cash on the table with the hand he held. He thought he saw a flicker of a grin cross Aphamos' face, but it quickly dissapeared. Damned pot-bully. He thought, seeing his stradegy.

Squall folded his hand as well, and then Aeos after a what looked like a moment of consideration. Darr-Rann shifted his gaze to Leon. This one's obvious. The squad leader thought. His prediction turned out to be true, and Leon matched Aphamos' bet. Once again he caught a flicker of emotion cross the Corporal's face, but this time it was disappointment.

He wanted everyone to fold out. Now he's going to lose his cash over a crappy hand he thought he could bluff. Rogueboy took a moment as well, then also matched the bet. Bad luck for you Aph. It seemed like Rogueboy had also spotted it.

They revealed their hands - And the assistant won. Rogueboy shook his head, and Darr-Rann could hear him mutter "Double bluff...", a depressed look taking his face as he watched Aphamos slid the money across the table to his pot.

It's good to see everyone getting along so well. Let's hope this attitude continues planet-side. Darr-Rann thought, as the transport continued towards it's destination...

Garet leaned up against the briefing room table as his troopers filed out. Phenix had held back and slowly made his way into Garet's view; he probably sensed the annoyance and stress in Garet's aura. Garet looked up to make eye contact only to see that Phenix was stressed as well.

"Should I see you some other time?" Phenix asked, Garet was too ambiguous for his ASL to get a read.

"No," Garet replied, getting into a more relaxed position, "no, this is fine."

"Don't worry too much about the troops. They'll warm up to you."

Garet pushed aside the reassurance Phenix was offering him. "My major concern is this battle. Think it was the right thing to keep them in the dark about our mission?"

"That info would've just caused uneasiness. It's better they don't know until they have to." Phenix handed Garet a datapad. "This came from Adjutant Kami. Apparently Riqimo sent her a request for the forecast." Phenix's presence became slightly stronger, "Sir, if I may speak freely, I don't think Riqimo should have done something like this."

"You read my mind," Garet said looking up from the datapad, a small expression of rage apparent.

"I'll deal with him tonight," Phenix offered, quickly being shot down by Garet.

"No, I think it's about time we had a chat anyways."

-

The lights got dimmer in the Eclipse barracks as it got later, and the low level they were on now sent Garet into a mental frenzy on his way to see Riqi.

Why does it seem I can't control my Squad? Do I lack the leadership? The know-how? Could my age be distracting people? There's too much... And this battle; a charge into enemy lines? It's dangerous... soldiers will lose their lives.

Uncertainty was a horrible trait he had picked up lately. Perhaps that's it.

Before he completely got to himself, Garet arrived at the bunks of Privates Riqi, Jag, and Jelly Bean. He listened in for a moment to try to hear what was going on, then, after hearing nothing, slowly and quietly slid open the door. From the dim light of the hallway he could make out the three from in their bunks, and from the sounds of snoring he assumed they were asleep. Littered across the room were piles and piles of... something that Garet couldn't see in the dark. "What a mess," he mumbled as he shut the door. He couldn't bring himself to wake them up to scold them.

-

The night was spent thinking about what they were getting into. The gruesome reality of war. This battle seemed recklessly drawn out. A full on charge into superior firepower; a waste of life if that's what it would come down to. Though, it isn't a waste, Garet tried to convince himself, the Vast Empire is at stake.

Garet's sleepless night yielded to a morning of hunger. He made his way to the mess hall as one makes their way with no sleep. As he entered the rather energetic Jelly Bean stopped him.

"Hello sir," he exclaimed.

Garet examined the Private, he seemed well enough for the rather drab meal in front of him. "Good morning Private," Garet replied in his grogginess. He set his sights on an apple sitting on JB's tray. In a sleepless mistake, he reached out for it. Trying to save the embarrassing action he asked JB for it.

"No sir go right ahead." Jelly said more calmly.

Trying to get rid of the awkward situation, Garet told JB to go get the squad ready. Even though they weren't actually landing in thirty minutes, that's what came out of Garet's mouth.

    HSC WRAITH PRIDE!

The wind blew with force, the coldness biting into Talstorin's skin like a rabid dog.  The snowtrooper armor didn't provide as much use as it looked like it would.  There he stood, on a snowy hill, alone.  His armor didn't weigh so much anymore, strangely.  It was more comfortable as well, but it didn't help warm the body much.  Had it been someone else, they would've minded but Talstorin loved snow and the cold.  To him, it represented sanctuary, the symbol of purity and grace.  The whiteness of the snow had always intrigued him, especially since there were none on his home planet of Tatooine.  The wind blew again, sending a chill through Talstorin's body, like a surge of despair and uncertainty.  He suddenly sensed something wrong with the mission, something terrible was going to happen.

He looked down, overseeing the enemy fortress, which was much smaller than he had expected.  Stormtroopers lined around the walls of it, armed with E-11s.  The ground was a blank whiteness, the area in front of him inclined in a slope.  It was just him on about twenty troopers.  The radio sent a message.

    "Tnepres, you there yet?"

    "Yeah.  I'll start soon enough."

"Hurry up with it."  The voice was indistinguishable though it was monotonous to make it clear it was a computer.

"Okay, okay, keep your pants on."

There was no answer.  Talstorin took it as a signal to go.  He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.  The chilled air felt good as it burned in his lungs, it instantly wiped the nervousness Talstorin felt out.  He readied his carbine, running his hands along it.  He loaded it's magazine, then took a step forward.  The wind blew, though this time it went a different direction.  The winds of war had changed.  With that, he ran forward and stopped halfway there.  He brought his carbine up and aimed.  Then it happened.

Like a hornets nest, the ground around him sprouted forth snowtroopers, everywhere.  They sprung up almost randomly, appearing in scattered locations on the field, each of them facing Talstorin, gun ready.  Then with a horrifying sound, the guns exploded into rapid fire, all towards the single Wraith.  His body was shot quickly, from all directions as well.  Shots pierced through his body, spraying bits of blood out.  The gunfire never ceased.  They just kept shooting, and Talstorin just stood there, in pain.  His body burned beyond belief.  Every single nerve in his body sent pain signals throughout the rest of him, it was unbearable.  Finally, he felt the strength drain from his legs.  He lost circulation with his legs and suddenly became wobbly.  Still they shot at him, blasting him without mercy.  There were so many holes in his body, every piece felt as if it was torn out from him.  Blood dripped from the wounds, drops of melted bone also fell.  Finally, his knees gave.  He felt on his knees, and when he looked down, he noticed the snow was no longer white.  Drops of red blood fell on the pure whiteness, strangely staining it a thick, swampy black.  He felt lightheaded, and he took one last breath.  It was a dragged out breath, long and painful.  The wind chilled his exposed wounds and bones.  He exhaled, and with the air, drops of blood followed as well.  Still they shot.  He took one last look at the world and then his eyelids felt heavy.  They lowered slowly, like curtains after the final scene.  They fell completely, they finished the show, it was the end.  And he felt his body fall forward with his last seconds, and after a final thought, a final word, he was gone.

_______

An eternal shade of darkness turned to a bright light.  He opened his eyes, quickly bring his hand in front of him.  It was alright, he was still alive.  He felt a tap on his shoulder and he turned.  He found Snipes looking down at him.

"We're getting out of hyperdrive soon."

Talstorin nodded and closed his eyes again.  He felt another tap, and he opened his eyes again.

    "What?"

    "Mind if we talk?"

Talstorin blinked inside his helmet.  His forehead was still sweaty from the nightmare.  It felt awkward, Snipes never said it before.  "You still drunk?"

Snipes shook his head.  "I wish though.  Life is so much more depressing when you're sober."

Talstorin chuckled.  "Fine, have a seat."  He sat up and Snipes sat down besides him.  Talstorin looked at his fellow trooper and glanced around.  "So. . . What is it?"

Snipes nodded.  "You okay?  You've been like this since I've met you but do you always have disturbing dreams?  Every time I look around and see you asleep, you're always tossing and tumbling, and that's not normal, no matter how much alcohol you take.  Talstorin laughed.

"I. . . just have bad memories of a lot of things."

    "You sure?"

Talstorin nodded.  "Don't worry about it."

Snipes nodded, "Remember, if something is wrong, tell one of us.  We can't let you mess up our mission with bad memories."

Talstorin gave him a weird stare.  "Yea sure."  Snipes nodded.

"Alright."  He got up and left, and as he walked away, Talstorin shrugged off the terrible feeling he had.  Something was going to go wrong this mission.  He knew it.

Leon watched as Darr-Rann shuffled the deck of Sabaac cards, doing all sorts of tricks with the cards that Leon could never manage to do no matter how hard he tried. Leon turned his gaze towards the evil grinning Aphamos, who had taken most of the pots today, and had just won another pot that mostly consisted of Leon's credits. Aeos and Darr-Rann could now be heard chatting behind him, adding to the rest of the noise that surrounded him. He then turned towards Preditor, who to his surprise, was staring straight at Leon. He realized now just how big the Barabel was, and Leon new that in a second, he could leap across the table and tear Leon to shreds. But, Leon didn't feel scared, in fact, he was fascinated by the huge creature, and couldn't wait to see him in action.

"Strange," Preditor said. "I do not smell any fear coming from you, why is it that you don't fear me like most others do?"

Leon stared at him for a second and then answered, "Why should I be scared? Were on the same squad aren't we? So that makes us friends, or at least I hope so." Leon then stuck out his hand, waiting for the Barabel to shake it. For a second he just stared at Leon, seeming almost as if he were amused, and then he to stuck out his hand and wrapped it around Leon's.

"Preditor thinks it's nice to meet you."

"Yea same here. And you know, I've always wanted to meet one of you're kind, I've heard all about the Barabel back on Tatooine, and now I have one that's a friend. It's great to know that I have someone like you as an ally," Leon replied while shaking the huge reptilian's hand. Leon and Preditor then turned there heads towards Aeos, Darr-Rann, and Aphamos who had been quiet for a while. And unfortunately to Leon's and Preditors embarrassment, they had been watching the whole time, and were now grinning wildly at the both of them.

"Well it's good to know that everyone's getting along. You guys up for another game?"
Asked Darr-Rann, patiently waiting for them to reply.

"Yea sure, I just hope you guys plan on loosing some Credits!"

The ship's intercom suddenly rang out a notice: "Attention to all personnel. We have exited hyperspace and are making our way towards the planet. Be ready to unboard and proceed towards the camp." An unrecognized officer said. Darr-Rann nodded to Aphamos, who collected the cards. The squad leader stoop up and stretched.

"Alright, time to head for the lockers - Full snowtrooper gear, it's going to be frosty out there. Bring the rest of your gear as well. I want you ready in twelve minutes."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Darr-Rann fastened on his right gauntlet, completing, with the exception of his helm, the armor. He was reluctant to put on the headgear until he had to - He had no problem with the regular equipment, but he found the snowtrooper variant rather claustrophobic.

"Alright, we've been through the sims for this kind of thing before - I expect great performance out of you guys, after all, this is what we do." He equipped his back-holster, sheathing his blaster shotgun inside. He then grabbed his A280 and a few clips. Placing the former with the shotgun and the latter in a pouch on his belt.

"Alright troopers, head to the lounge - It should be a bit yet before they enter atmosphere and land." The sergeant said. Just a little longer now, and then we'll prove what this squad can do.

Arnaut's dreams were tumultuous at best, horrid at worst. Dreams were muddled and torn apart. If he'd overcome all the side effects from the last mission visibly, it sure didn't show in his dreams.

"Tnepres, come back!" Arnaut was running after Tnepres, as fast as he could. He had to tell something to him but...what? He couldn't remember. All he knew is he needed to catch him before it was too late. Too late for what, he didn't know. Just too late.

The floor opened up below him and he was falling, a dark, endless abyss below, and a fading glimmer of light above. Screaming he fell. And fell. And fell and fell.

He sat bolt upright, a cold sweat glistening on his forehead. He was breathing heavily and his hands unconsciously gripped the hilt of one of his knives.

Wiping his brow, he stood up and peered out the window. The blue swirls of hyperspace flew past the window, a dizzying array of patterns that made Arnaut's head hurt. He turned away to look at the squad, sleeping around him on the floor of the shuttle.

"Fifteen minutes 'till we exit hyperspace," the captain crackled over the comm system. The squad was instantly awake. People groggily shuffled to their feet and began putting on their snowtrooper armor. Arnaut grabbed his armor off a rack on the side of the shuttle compartment and started slipping it on.

I always wanted a skirt, he thought sourly as he inspected the armor. It was quite bulky armor, with not much room to move. Even worse, it was hot under the armor.  Stiffly he found a seat with the squad, and peered out the window. Still the painful blue. He turned to address the squad.

"I don't know what we're going to face down there. Well, I do in a sense, but not very well. I do know that it's going to be tough. Most of us haven't had to fight through snow before. It's a whole different battlefield.  Concentrate on the battle and nothing else. An environment like this can get to people's heads. Just pay attention to the goal at hand and we'll do--" The ship rocked and shuddered, and the crew bounced out of their seats.

"Planet Ilum has been reached. Orders are to stay in orbit for an undetermined time until we get orders to land. Thank you for flying--" The intercom cut off abruptly, Snipes' fist where the speaker used to be.

"Hey, what can I say? He was annoying." Snipes said apologetically. The squad chuckled.

"Well, if we have time to kill, we might as well get in a round of sabacc or two," Tnepres commented.

"I'll agree to that."

"Count me in."

"It just wouldn't be gambling without me!"

Arnaut tossed his helmet onto a seat and joined the squad on the floor. Might as well, we could be here a while... he thought smiling as he picked up his first hand. Pretty soon the smile turned into a wide grin.

"Kams, wake up, we're about to exit hyperspace."

Kami snapped out of her light doze, her hand flying to her E-11 in pure reaction, "Wha?"

Sam smiled from where he was crouched before her, "Chill commando Kami. We've got a few minutes until we're there."

Shaking her head to clear her grogginess, Kami came swiftly to her feet and glanced about the lounge. The Dragoons looked steadily back, the newer recruits bearing expressions of pure terror.  Feeling the urge to reassure them somehow, Kami opened her mouth then clamped it shut. She had no right to tell the Dragoons that all of them would be coming back from this mission...especially since she didn't believe that scenario herself.

"We just got a transmission from army intelligence," Sam said, resting a hand lightly on Kami's shoulder "You might want to come and look at this."

Tearing her gaze away from the Dragoons, Kami nodded, tucked stray bangs of dark hair behind her ears and followed her squad leader up front to the shuttle's cabin. The captain of the vessel, a young man clad in a naval uniform, glanced back as they entered,

"Howdy Gunny, this just came in for you from the Colonel."

The screen hanging from the middle of the view port flashed to life, revealing Rizzit's haggard face,

"We've received the initial assessment of Thrawn's forces. It seems that a Star Destroyer is hanging in orbit, the Halberd which has been identified as the command ship of a Commodore Vaynus, one of Thrawn's lower, less favored lackeys. The Destroyer is hanging far enough back from the planet that we should be able to enter the far side of planet unnoticed, which is great news..."

The virtual recording of Rizzit paused, glancing down at something before him before continuing, "The bad news is that Vaynus himself has gone down to the planet, with his own deadly entourage. We suspect that he may have realized during initial debriefing that Fro-Ja transmitted the information in our space, so he knows we're coming. Rough projections place ground forces at platoon strength, with mech support. Also, we've received additional information on the defenses of the research facility, which are slightly more lethal than previously released. It seems as though the Gorgodons have been giving them trouble, so they've installed turrent emplacements and manned guard towers about the perimeter of the building."

"Damnit," Kami caught her lip between her teeth, a nervous habit that neither the Kuati academy nor the VE military had been able to drill out of her, "We're so undergunned it's not funny."

"So as you can see we're very undergunned," The recording of Rizzit echoed her words, "By the time this reaches you you'll be about to enter Illum. This recording has been forwarded to the other squads, as well as a basic battle plan which is attached. This plan has been thrown together in a hurry following vague guidelines, so be prepared to adapt if things on the ground aren't as intelligence has predicted. Other than that, I wish you all good luck. I have a feeling we'll need it."

The recording before the two Dragoons disappeared, and was replaced by a sketchy map of the positioning of Vaynus's forces on Illum. Taking in the squares and designations of numbers, Kami felt the sick feeling in the pit of her stomach intensify, "This is going to be one hell of a battle."

Sam nodded, his expression grim, "We've got the mechs to play with."

Kami glanced back over her shoulder towards the lounge and the waiting Dragoons, "They haven't had a lot of practice against Imperial mechs, let alone AT-ST's."

"Here's hoping intelligence is wrong," Sam responded, though the tone of his voice suggested that he himself doubted they were, "We need to go and brief them. Touchdown is in 15 minutes. We need to figure out as much as we can now because it's going to be chaos down there."

Kami nodded, pushed her anxiety aside and focused on the task at hand. Take out the mechs. And keep the members of her squad from being gunned down in the process.

** Alright everyone, PHASE ONE is here. All of you will recieve the recording described above and the battle plan which will inform your characters of their objectives for the mission. You may describe the landing process and emerging out onto the battlefield. Remember: Vaynus is prepared for our arrival **

** Some of the objectives require some squads to work together, so it is important that you include them in your posts where necessary, i.e. Dark Dragoons & Raiders. You are BOTH on the same battlefield, and will realistically engage each others targets, and if the need arises, aid each other at times. The same goes for Nightstalkers and Wraith at the beginning of their subsquent missions **

The ship lurched. No, lurched wasn't quite the word. It felt like a rather large creature heaving over to throw up. Twice. Almost nose down, the shuttle flew through the atmosphere. The squad members, all safely strapped to their seats, wore similar masks of fear, hands clentched tightly around the edges of the seats. Well, all except Snipes who was busy counting as many dust particles in the air as he could find just to prove to the squad he could stay calmer than them.

Arnaut shook his head. No time for idle thought. Slowly, he went over exactly what they were to do again. Fly in, infiltrate the base, and blow things up. Sounded like a good plan. The ship gave another hideous bump and finally began to slow down. That didn't mean the ship was going slow, just...slower.

Arnaut peered out the window. Clouds rocketed by at incredible speeds, but other than that, nothing was incredibly visible. Until Arnaut realized that what he was seeing between clouds wasn't just a white sky...it was a white world. As they got closer, Arnaut could start to pick out cliffs and ledges, dark grays and browns standing out against the white. Once or twice they passed over a small lake, their reflection keeping up with them on the glistening surface.

The cockpit door opened to reveal a pilot, looking very grim, no doubt over his broken intercom system.

"Two minutes 'till touchdown," he said gruffly before slamming the door shut again. Jerkoff.

The squad was starting to calm down now, occasionally looking out the window or ruffling through belongings looking for something in particular. Arnaut hunted out his new Whisper Sniper rifle. Still shiny, fresh out of the box. Slowly checking over all the pieces, he closed its case again and set it back into his pack.

Arnaut peered out the window one last time, just in time to see the Nightstalkers shuttle come up alongside theirs. Suddenly, the ground was approaching the ship at an alarming rate. With a thud, they hit the ground and the engines died. A stillness descended on the shuttle. With a pop and a hiss that made the squad jump, the doors swung outward revealing a snowy landing pad.

"Helmets on," Arnaut ordered. Arnaut was the first off the ship, jumping down due to the lack of stairs on the shuttle, and out into the freezing world. Snow crunched under his boots as he made his way to the other shuttle. If the pilot had landed them in the right spot, they should be no more than a kilometre from the base. He looked back and was pleased to see his squad was following. Suddenly an impulse thought came over him.

Yillis didn't even see it coming until his was on the ground, the remnants of a snowball dripping off his helmet.

"Hey! That was a cheap shot!" He said laughing, and started to make his own ball. Soon snowballs were flying through the air all over the place. Arnaut's datapad beeped, signaling a new message, but he ignored it. I can read it later.

The door of the Nightstalkers shuttle opened wide, and the squad disembarked. Snowballs dropped out of hands, and crouching squad members stood up. All means of fun were instantly forgotten as the Wraith squad went to meet its 'diversionary support'.

Raiders

Leon held his Snow trooper Helm up and stared into it. This is my enemy. These are the faces of the ones that I must kill today. They want to kill my squad mates and me, but I won't let that happen no matter what. They want to kill ME,just like I want to kill them. Show no mercy, no matter how hard they beg, because they won't show it to you. Leon could feel it now, he was going to kill someone and nothing was going to stop him. He could feel the rush spread through out his body, changing him into someone else, or rather, something else. He was letting the being inside of him take over, the blood-thirsty one, the one that took lives and never looked back. It was game time now.

Once Leon arrived at the lounge, he took a seat in one of the chairs at the back of the room. No one had arrived yet, and Leon was glad that they hadn't, he needed a little bit of time alone.

"So are you ready?" Leon asked the thing inside of him.

"When am I not ready? But the real question is are
you ready?"

Leon took a moment to answer this, knowing what he would have to deal with after.
"Yea I'm ready, but can you do me a favor and let me take control for now? I at least want to spend some time with my squad mates; I might not ever be able to see them again." Leon asked, hoping the thing would hold out a little longer.

You're a bastard Leon, you know that? But fine, I'll wait a little longer. And I want you to know that the pain will be even worse, cya soon."

And with that, the feeling was gone. Leon new though, he had done the right thing, even if it did cost him the pain later on. At the same time though, Leon couldn't help but feel a little angry, that stupid thing inside of him mocking him the way it did. He wish he could give it a beating, but new that was impossible, and without that thing Leon would be dead by now. "Just be thankful for what you have," Leon mumbled to himself, trying to sound the way his mother did when she told him that.

And as if on cue, the rest of Raiders walked into the lounge, followed by his new Squad Leader Darr-Rann, who was carrying what looked like a Holo-projector. "Alright everyone, have a seat. I've just received this Holo-projector, and it has very important information pertaining to the mission. Let's see what they have in store for us."

20 minutes later

Leon had been through this many times before, but this time, it was different. Leon could feel his adrenaline pump as the ship began to shake, the bolts that connected everything together seemed like they would fall out at any second. Leon never enjoyed entering the atmosphere, but then there was that side of him that did. And as fast as it had begun, it stopped. "Alright boys, get ready, this is gonna be a tough one," shouted Darr-Rann over the roar of the engines.

They traveled a couple of more seconds, before Leon felt a thud, signaling that they had touched down. The large flap door at the end of the ship opened, and they all quickly hopped out, there rifles scanning the flat terrain ahead of them. Leon had never been in the snow before, and always wondered what it would be like, and now he new. It was beautiful; an endless sea of pure white, that seemed almost to hypnotize him. Leon stared for a couple of seconds more, savoring the moment, the first time he had seen snow. And then, he let the thing take over, and it slowly faded away.

Talstorin was the last to get off.  He landed with perfect balance, immediatly heading away from the rest of the squad.  The snow, it was beautiful.  He looked out into the landscape, the mountains and ground were all white with snow.  He turned around, to find a snowball fight had erupted.  He ignored them, crouching, however uncomfortable it was to do in a snowtrooper armor, he picked up some snow between his fingers and played around with them.  He then let it fall, the powder gracefully falling back onto the ground.

Much to his relief, the armor still weighed a lot and did keep him warm, unlike the dream.  He stood up, back to his rigid standing position.  He shook his head in disgust with the armor, he couldnt wait to get out of it.  Talstorin took a step, almost seeming mechanical.  It was ridiculous, like someone had dumped starch on his clothes.

Nightstalkers arrived, their shuttle lowering.  It landed next to Wraiths, the snowball fight immediatly ceased.  Talstorin walked back up to the rest of the group.  The door of the shuttle opened and the nightstalker-ers jumped out.  Kairo came first, giving the Wraiths a stern stare.

"Well, well, look who's late for the party," said Leth, though he immediatly shut up after Kairo turned to look at Leth.  Talstorin walked closer, checking his armor.  Arnaut took a step forward and gestured Kairo away from the rest.  Obviously, it was to discuss plans.  Yillis watched the two walk away and soon followed after quickly, leaving the remaining Wraiths and Nightstalkers pondering what was being discussed.

Yoder nudged Talstorin, causing him to face Yoder.  The trooper smirked.  "Where's Christina?  I heard she wasn't too bad looking."

Talstorin blinked a few times, taking a while to understand the statement.  Soon after, he withdrew in disgust and shoved Yoder into the snow.  "Can we not talk about that?"

Yoder laughed.  "I was just yanking you're leg."

Talstorin gave him a look and then walked away.  Snipes was watching the plan discussion, apparently understanding parts from far away.  He didn't notice Talstorin creep up on him.

Raiders & Dark Dragoons

Rogue packed up all his gear unfortunately he would be carrying the generator for the E-web, which was strapped to his back along with the rest of his kit. The dropship touched down and the Raider squad quickly ran off the shuttle and dropped to their stomachs looking around for a possible enemy. The cold quickly hit Rogue and he was forced to adjust his suits thermal heating to match it.

The transport took off. Darr slowly raised himself to his knees and commanded his squad to do likewise, which they did.

"Alright guys huddle up, we have landed about a kilometer from the base. So, depending on our speed, we should reach it within an hour, so get in goose formation and follow keep your eyes sharp, we will be meeting with Dark Dragoons halfway through. "

With that the Raiders started moving out in the V formation with Darr at point. Rogue mentally remarked the effectiveness of this formation it was good because if they were marching single file a single blaster bolt could kill half the squad, but in goose formation they were each forced to break their own path through the snow which was extremely fatiguing especially if you are carrying a fifty pound generator on your back as well as at least another fifty pounds of miscellaneous gear including tend, portable heating generator. (which Rogue didn't have to carry because of the E-web's generator) Together the squad marched on to rendezvous with Dark Dragoons and to thwart General Thrawn's underling. Vaynus.

Squall began shaking with anger as he layed his cards down.

"I fold damnit, that was a cheap game," said Squall, yelling at Rogue.

Rogue had quite the grin on his face as he took a puff of his cigarillo.  Squall grabbed his pack and lit one up for himself, letting the smoke fill his lungs.  With a long exhale, Squall stood up and made his way towards the rest of the Squad.  They were now boarding the landing craft.

Squall now had all of his gear, including the explosives that he might need for the mission, breaching C4 packs, Anti-Mech Mines, and Squall's favorite, A large arsenal of Frag grenades.  He felt the heavyness of the small but compact duffle as he threw it over his shoulder and entered the transport.  Within a few minutes, they were all boarded.

After a small amount of time, they were in space.  Squall took the time to meditate for a short amount of time, staring blanky at the planet with no emotions showing on his face.  It had been nearly a year since he had entered battle, and he hoped that the lack there of wouldn't hinder his ability whatsoever.  Deep concentration at this point was helping him greatly.  He had learned this tactic from his uncle as a small child.  Anger problems overdrove Squall in his adolencent years, throwing him into a rage of fits at any given time, and the one thing that would calm him down was meditition.  This thought brought back good memories, letting Squall now that there was some motivation to life, something to live for.  And that one thing was hoping that he would one day reunite with his uncle and share more memories.

Gotta let it go Squally....too much depends on you right now

The seargent quickly snapped back into reality as the transport entered the atmosphere.  The ship shook violent, one feeling that Squall never forgot.  He braced himself with one arm near the bench where he was sitting to make sure he didn't loose any control and hurt himself before the battle even began.  The feeling lasted a matter of 5 minutes before they entered the lower atmosphere.  Squall could make out other transports on the ground now, and a large amount of troopers coming out of them.  Battle was coming, and Squall could taste it.

"Hey Squalleh, one more before we get out of here," said Rogue, tossing Squall yet another cigarillo.  Squall quickly let it up and took his helmet in his right hand after throwing the mechanism that lit the cigarillo back to Rogue.  It calmed him, a feeling that Squall cherished.  He didn't smoke to often, but when he did, he felt good.

Squall began putting his long hair up in a bun so that it would fit underneath the helmet.  He wouldn't want it distracting him this time, nothing to get in his way.  As the transport set down, Squall could feel the coldness of the planet enter his body.  It was a chill that brought him straight into reality.  Darr stood up and grabbed his things, the first one off of the transport.  Squall dropped the cigarillo and stomped it out just before exiting the transport.  Squall hopped out, his things ready.  The crunchy ness of the ground made Squall feel good.  He could move well in the snow, he had trained in it many a time, but this was reality, and he would have to take that into consideration.

The Dragoons shuttle landed just beside theirs, and the troopsers came out with confidence on their faces.

"Helmets on boys," said Darr, "Lets get to it"

The Shuttle shook and buckled as it entered Illum's atmosphere. All Eclipse members where silent as they waited for most of the turbulence to pass. "We're five minutes from the LZ everybody hold tight." Came a feminine voice over the com system. Jelly meditated clearing everything from his head getting ready for himself to get his battle senses going. When he opened his eyes something snapped and all his energized self went out the window. Jelly checked out the window seeing they where close to the LZ finished  preparing himself .

The Shuttle landed with a heavy thud slightly jarring everybody. The transport was alive instantly with movement. Jelly unbuckled his safety strap and moved towards his designated bike. The OverRacer in front of him had been modified for this particular engagement with a new paint that would be difficult to spot even on a clear day on this planet. Jelly unclipped the restraining straps that kept the bike from shifting around. As if in unison all of the squad where on their bikes and had activated them the transport roared from their engines.

"Shuttle doors are now opening" The pilot called over everyone's com." Good Luck."

The Shuttle doors shifted open letting in the coldness of Illum. Jelly's suit adjusted to a comfortable temperature keeping him from freezing. Without further pause all of Eclipse Squad departed from the shuttle heading towards the Rendezvous point with Raider and Dark Dragoon squads.

Jelly monitored his bikes engine making sure he didn't overheat it which he didn't want after Riqimo's explanation about the blasters. He wasn't sure but he was somewhat concerned the same could happen to the bikes.

The journey to the Rendezvous didn't take very long which was about a twenty minute trip. Ok we hold here till Raiders and Dark Dragoons arrive. Jelly made one final sweep of his equipment making sure all was secure on the bike. His hand went to his back feeling the warm reassurance of his Vibroblade.

Now we just wait for the chaos to begin&&

Adrenaline rushed through Garet's body as the bay door began to open. He sat comfortably on his overracer, front and center, ahead of the Squad who were still in the passenger area. An icy blast hit his uncovered face, making his eyes water as they adjusted to the temperature. He synced himself into a mellow rhythm, the subconscious soldier that took over during combat. One final rush of inertia came over him as the ship slammed to a halt and hovered inches above the ground. The bay door lowered itself into a ramp, allowing snow to be picked off the ground and brushed into Garet's face. The family sound of armor clucking against metal filled the room behind him as his troopers streamed in and saddled up. He clicked his helmet on and checked the Comm system, the cold blast instantly disappearing from his face.

"Alright Eclipse, sound off," he said into his helmet. His Squad reported back promptly. "Alright gentlemen, watch that first step." Garet accelerated slowly into the ramp, then blasted off into the clear as he hit ground. He made sure to keep the trip nice and easy; less risk of danger and better synchronization with the other Squads.

"What's that noise?" Typex inquired over the Comm. "It sounds like buzzing."

Garet heard it too. He shifted his weight around to find the source. The cloth, designed for camouflage, was flapping against their armor and the bikes, which did make a distinct buzzing sound. Hopefully it wouldn't attract attention.

"Just keep going," Garet ordered, trying to keep his Squad focused.

The rendezvous point was motionless. The air was still, the snowflakes had the chance to become big -  which was a huge problem for sight. It was almost serene. Garet had his eyes closed, practically dreaming of somewhere, sometime else, when someone tapped him on the shoulder. Garet instinctively reached for his pistol but was stopped as he remembered where he was. He turned around to see almost a full platoon of troops around him; the 'Goons and Raiders had arrived.

Wraith Squad

Yoder after commenting on Christina to tnepres, he started looking around in wonder at all the snow I wonder if anything here will try to kill me other than blaster fire today&

"Hey talstorin, wanna bet who's going to get inside the base first?" Yoder quickly and quietly said. "I bet snipes or me will be first." "No way me or arnaut, you're to slow and snipes might fall off from trying to act drunk." They both snickered. I hope there are plenty of enemies inside and easy pickings since this armor is not meant to hold against blaster fire, Oh geez were easy pickings too!

After getting situated in the freezing bloody weather, Yoder check out his helmet's systems making sure they were all fine. After checking the systems he looked at the map briefly, what the, blood and ashes we have to go through the enemy to get inside. Bloody
Enemies I'll kill as many as I can for making me take a day of my break of drinking.

Yoder looked at his rifle in disgust that it couldn't snipe or switch to anti-armor like his DC-17 could, whoever came up with the idea that rifles shouldn't be able to change and switch should be hanged, burned, chopped to pieces, and be blasted into nothing by his own pathetic creation.

Yoder then checked to see if his gear is ready when he was going to change, Alright DC-15 and 17 is there, my Katarn commando armor is there, my two stiech & hiech knives are there to I doubt I'll use them. Blood and ashes I forgot! I hate swoops good thing I can use them well enough to live this mission.

"Listen up were going to get to our swoops and prep before we try and run the enemy lines like smugglers, but first lets meet our diversionary squad. Now let's go wraith." Arnaut. Yoder and everybody else in wraith headed over to the 'late squad', slow enough that a bantha could walk faster.

Talstorin tapped Snipes's  shoulder as Yoder walked off to the rest of the nightstalkers.  Snipes jumped, startled, before turning back to see who it was.  "Oh hey, Tnepres.  What's up?"

"Just wondering if you knew what they were talking about," he gestured towards Yillis, Arnaut and Kairo.

"Nothing much, going over a general strategy before going into depths.  We're getting swoops while Nightstalkers provide distractions."

"Nice," Talstorin nodded in approval.

"I'll get back to you when i find out more."  Talstorin nodded in response and ran off towards the Nightstalkers.  The rest of Wraith was there as well, making friends with the other squad.  The Nightstalkers were wearing snowtrooper armor as well, though they wore jetpacks over the armor.  Talstorin stared at the troopers curiously.  The jetpacks made strange additions to the armor, besides, weren't they a little too heavy to be airborne?  Talstorin shrugged these questions aside and walked up to a one the squad members.

"Hey, I'm Talstorin Yalmic," he said to the man, offering his hand.

"AlanRJ," the man responded as he shook Talstorin's hand.  The man quickly walked away, much to Talstorin's dismay, and stood next to a girl.  She seemed to be the center of the crowd.  Talstorin came to one conclusion, the ASL of Nighstalkers, Christina.  He looked for Yoder, who was busy talking to another Nightstalker, apparently complaining about the weaponry.  He shrugged, some people just never change.

Talstorin walked up to Christina, who had just finished talking to Leth, and introduced himself.  "Hey, I'm Talstorin Yalmic, new to the army actually."

Christina gave him a smile and replied.  "I'm Christina, ASL of Nightstalkers."  Talstorin opened his mouth to continue but he found Alan giving him a cold defensive stare.  Immediately, he closed his mouth, smiled and nodded goodbye to Christina.  He walked away feeling left out.

Che, I can't believe Alan actually thinks I'm interested in girls.  Err. . . Scratch that, interested in Her.

Raiders

Rogue looked around and saw many unfamiliar faces which came as no surprise Rogue usually watched his corner of the woods and didn't pay much mind to the other squads. One thing caught Rogueboy's eye an unfamiliar soldier wearing a Raider's patch, Rogue walked up alongside him and tapped him on the shoulder.

"And who the hell are you?"

A few other troopers from various squads turned around to look at the exchange and seeing how the new recruit would react. The new recruits head turned softly.

"Private Rayden Shiong."

And looking at Rogue's Corporal stripes and added "Sir." but it sounded more like cur. A few of the other troopers chuckled at the way Rogueboy's body language responded to the minor insult. Rogue looked at how Rayden had packed his equipment.

"You didn't pack your backup firearm properly."

Rayden turned his head to check it and as he did Rogue threw a punch which knocked the new recruit off his feet, he stood up almost immediately and threw one which almost knocked out Rogueboy's lights Darr was in the middle of the scuffle in an instant breaking both combatants apart with the help of Aphamos.

"Break it up you two, save it for the enemy. Rogue I would of expected more self restrain from you."

Rogue and Rayden resumed walking alongside Dark Dragoons and Eclipse squad, Rogue hated this job, in ancient times when assaulting walls there was a nickname for what they were doing; it was called wall fodder as you would get fed to the wall. Rogue let a couple of minutes pass before walking alongside Rayden again all under Darr's ever watchful eye of course.

"I got to hand it to you, you punch like a damn rancor, I think my face might be a bit bruised by the end of the night."

Rogue extended his hand in friendship and continued.

"But your going to have to punch a hell of a lot harder if you plan on surviving tonight, you need someone to watch your ass and by damn I am that man, and nobody kills a Raider and lives."

Rayden clasped his hand and spoke.

"You don't punch so bad yourself and if you plan on surviving tonight I think you might just need my help."

Rogue started chuckling but was cut short when Darr raised his hand in the universal sign as shut the hell up and look alert. When the orders were given Rogue wondered why Raiders was ordered to be the scouts and than he realized that as the only squad not to be using any vehicles they would make less noise and their heat signatures would be less transparent to the enemy. Darr dropped to his stomach and began inching his way up a little, his rifle cradled between his arms. Rogue reached behind him and flicked a switch turning the Eksoan class generator in an attempt to reduce that fifteen minute warm up period. Darr pointed at Aph and Preditor and made the hand motion to crawl their way up, which they did, Rogue crawled his way to Aeos and whispered.

"What do you reckon Darr sees?"

"Shh. You'll find out."

His firearm tucked safely behind him, Phenix thrusted on the accelerator, almost being torn back by the initial jolt of the speeder bike. He could hear the wind tearing past his helmet, which only made him even more appreciative of his snow gear. Then Phenix listened for another distinctive sound, but not something he expected. A sharp buzzing sound was radiating from his speeder. He chanced a look and noticed his snow cam rapping against the speeder, which in turn made the distracting sound.

Similar observations came on through the comm frequency. The first to make a noticable comment was someone whose voice Phenix did not recognize. "You guys are making a lot of racket out there," came the message. "Don't let it draw attention upon yourselves."

Per Garet's order, the squad did not slow down, but rather sped up. By the time they had reached the objective point, barely a couple minutes had passed. It's going to be very fast-paced out here, Phenix thought. This mission may seem very short. He knew in the back of his mind, though, that this mission was going to be a ride to Hell and back.

Garet and the squad leaders from Dark Dragoons and Raiders communicated with each other on the routes they were going to take and other tactical maneuvers. Phenix knew that this mission's advancement had to be very on-the-spot, seeing as how both armies had similar, if not identical, training processes. And he expected the same from them as well.

Their squad leader finally turned to them and said, "Okay, Eclipse. This is how we're going to lay it out..." And with that, Garet began to explain the upcoming procedure.

The Dragoons shuttle lurched violently as it entered the atmosphere of the planet Illum. Sam, from where he was standing at the pilot's shoulder and gazing out onto the white landscape below let out a low whistle of appreciation, "What a beautiful planet."

"Beautiful now," Kami jabbed a gloved finger at one of the monitors on the console before the empty co-pilot chair, "This is picking up some pretty extreme weather conditions not far from here."

"I used to live on a cold planet," The pilot interjected, his gaze remaining focused before him, "The weather changes so damn quickly you don't know it has until you can't see five feet in front of you."

"That's reassuring," Sam turned to Kami, "You want to ready the boys? I'll contact Darr and see where he and Raiders are."

Nodding, Kami moved from the cabin back into the lounge to where the Dragoons were still sitting in semi-readiness.

"Helmets on," She barked, moving between them towards the rear of the shuttle, "Check ammunition charges. Check life support. Check communications equipment."

The squad scrambled to life, locking armor into place and raising their rifles to ready position. The shuttle lurched viciously again, heralding another significant drop as the Dragoons filed towards the boarding ramp in Kami's wake. Throwing out an arm to steady herself as the floor bucked wildly again, she yelled to be heard over the whine of the shuttle's engines,

"As soon as we land we will unload and secure the mechs from the cargo hold. As you know, it is our job to take out the mechs that Vaynus has put on the field before us. I cannot stress how important it is that we succeed. The Raiders, whilst sufficiently equipped to engage and destroy ground units, won't last long against the firepower of AT-ST's. So we cover their asses, and they cover ours in turn."

"The Raiders are on the field and scouting out the initial area. Eclipse are at the rendevous point." Sam yelled as he appeared behind the group of Dragoons, "We'll wait for their signal to move in. I will be piloting one of the repulsortanks, with Galant as gunner, while Zafo will be piloting the other with Durandal on gunner support. Sayah, Kael, Urakai, you three are with Kami in the flying death trap."

"The flying what?!" Kael's indignant voice was clear despite the roar of the engine.

"The GX12," Kami responded, "It's not shielded, but it's fast enough to avoid most trouble. The repulsortanks will be doing most of the damage, so it's our job to take out smaller threats and provide a moving target for the AT's so the others can get a lock."

"Sounds great!" Came Kael's sarcastic response, "Fantastic."

"No idle chitchat from now on," Sam snapped, "This mission will push all of us. You don't need me to tell you that 9 versus 3 aren't great odds. Focus on the task at hand, and watch your and your squad mates backs."

The ship lurched again, then grinded to a halt as the landing pads came in contact with the earth. Moments later, the boarding ramp slammed open, revealing a world of pure white. Kami moved out without a moment's hesitation, her booted feet sinking in the soft snowfall, the others at her heels...
