I would suggest finding a pic that is at least 100 pixels in height. Makes it easier, unless you want to see some interesting add-on art on your avatar. -----------------------

If i am correct you don't need an specific one, i use adobe photoshop premiere, TK's avater took me about 8 hours to make, not because it was difficult to do. But, i had to think about what i was going to do, how to put my raw material into one final product.
I am not sure, but there is also photomatix and photoimpact right?
