I think that boxing is an actual sport, where fighting is just something you do when you're mad. I am fully ready to back my opinion too. When you box, you have a referee, a clock, and a ring. On top of all that, a boxing match has a set time. Fighting can take place on a school playground, in a yard, in a hall, whereever. It can also take place physically and verbally. Fights are not usually planned, they just happen. There is no referee, there is no ring, nor a set time limit. It is usually just one-on-one venting anger. Or multiple people can rouse in a fight. Boxing is always one-on-one. That is my take on this. I am hoping to read more rousing opinions. oh, and I want a medal for being first to post!

i don't keep current w/ sports, but this a conceptual question so i'm in. times depend but i'm pretty flexible so i'll see when others are available and try to fit in. i'm on the side that they're pretty similar.

it's called a sport? also a good topic for the next debate could be whether golf is a valid sport.

Golf IS a sport, provided you don't use a cart or caddy. They make it too easy.
One sport I like is paintball. There's a 24-hour game in Pennsylvania this July, a recreation of D-Day. They're even going to have artillary and tanks there!

I think despite ome people interested greatly in boxing, wrestling, chess, etc, not everyone is as knowledgable about them.  A good sport would be soccer because it is known internationaly (am I saying soccer is good? hell no...) or football or basketball where b-ball is a big sport in US and somewhat in Europe, same with football, not soccer

If you are making the conclusion that the elements of running around, sprinting, leaping, and pain is "sport", then why isn't something like the game Tag a sport as well? What about a war of squirt guns? Water fights? You still have a good workout with those games, but they are they considered sport?

As for Golf, I have pros and cons of it being considered a sport. On the con side, you are just standing around, hitting a ball to a designated area. On the pro side, it takes an enormous amount of skill to get the ball to the place you want it to go.

I agree with 'Munk, Golf should be considered a sport.  This is my definition:

Sport - N - Any game which anyone can play with little or no experience, which has organized rules, provides physical and/or mental excersize, which takes skill, and at which one can improve with constant practice.

G5, I made it up    As for being sports, none of those that you listed have organized rules.  Make some up and actually follow them sometime and I'll concede it as a sport
