Raigen your stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Darfur is in western Sudan. I trust you know where Sudan is? ----------------------- WADJ, SPAC/1LT Corran "Arturus" Hargraves/SCR Doashim/VE/VEN/(=A=)(=SA=)(=*MA*=)(=JCPA=)(=SCPA=)[LoM][MC:1](x2)[SV][BRC][VC:B][CBV][LSM][LoC][BWC][SWC][GWC]
"The way of war is a way of deception. When able, feign inability; when deploying troops, appear not to be. When near, appear far; when far, appear near. Lure with bait; strike with chaos. If the enemy is full, be prepared. If strong, avoid him. If he is angry, disconcert him. If he is weak, stir him to pride. If he is relaxed, harry him; if his men are harmonious, split them. Attack where he is unprepared; appear where you are unexpected. This is victory in warfare; it cannot be divulged in advance. Victory belongs to the side that scores most in the temple calculations before battle. Most spells victory; least spells defeat; none, surer defeat. I see it in this way, and the outcome is apparent." -- Sun Tzu

Clam down, Art. This is why we're having this awareness week: Too many people are too ignorant to it. If you don't know what it is, please take some time to look into it. Just knowing about it can help.
And if you really wanna think about it, Darfur is just different because it's genocide. It's bad to say it, but most of Africa is a mess with war. It's good to know what's going on there. ----------------------- Eclipse Squad

/me tosses in his two cents
Apparently someone here has to be utterly jaded about this.
1. We, the US, are letting genocide happen at the same time as we're randomly invading countries and torturing folks in secret prisons. This is really, really sh*tty PR folks.
2. You'd think the French or Germans would be doing something about it and rubbing our noses in it. Does this make them as bad as the US or even worse?
3. Yes, Africa is just one tragedy after another like this. Kids that should be in elementary school are running around the continent with AKs and RPGs killing each other. Why anyone in charge anywhere allows this to happen is beyond me.
4. It would probably help if the people getting slaughtered weren't animists. You'd think they could at least fake being Catholic or something so they could get some actual moral outrage from the rest of the world.
5. Yes, this is completely wrong to think so, but why the hell aren't Western nations getting credit from the Muslim fringe for letting Muslims butcher "unbelievers"? You'd think the punks would give us that much "credit" for letting atrocities go unpunished. ----------------------- PRF/GG Fury/VEA/TADATH/VE [MoHx2][SCPx2][PoC][SotE:HC][SotE:VEA][SCP][MSM][IOC]

I don't think anyone should be judged for not knowing what or where Darfur is. And yes I do know where Sudan is. Honestly, It's not taught to us in school and I have never seen it on TV. This is the first time it's being introduced to me. Ignorance and unfamiliarity are two different things Arturus, and I don't like being called stupid simply because I have not had the opportunity to be introduced to something. Kairo, you don't have to encourage that type of attitude either. I am not ignorant, and I am not stupid(despite what my behavior would have you to believe.) I do not appreciate your judgement of my intellect based on my geography skills. Are you implying that I am ignorant, or that I am an apathetic American. I am certainly not ignorant so it must be the later. If it is indeed that you are comparing me to a heartless, privileged American who could care less, then I am thoroughly offended. That type of attitude is the cause of the world's unfounded hatred for a wonderful country. I am not apathetic. I made it a point to find out more about Darfur when this was posted. If you want to raise awareness about Darfur, then by all means do. But do not come and bludgeon me with insults for my lack of learning opportunity. If you want to be mad, be mad at the American public school system for not taking time to drill us on every region of Sudan. I tried to learn about Darfur, but if this is the type of appreciation I am going to receive, never mind.

I'm ganna have to agree with Raigen here- I didn't know about this until sometime late last year when I did a speech on it. By then the situation had already been going on for some time, and who knows- I may not have known about it until seeing this post if I hadn't been flipping through the channels one day or reading an article on George Clooney and his latest humanitarian efforts. Point being that the majority of folks are completely oblivious to the issue and could care less because they don't understand the absolute horror of the situation. In fact, if I say 'Darfur' they reply- "Who?" Sudan is easy enough, but I don't know most of those countries over there myself- tells you something about where our priorities lie. So, while it'd probably be in my best interest to become more aware of them, being without knowledge on the issue would hardly make me or anyone else ignorant.
The post was put here for a reason- inform so that you might be helpful. Whether we believe our government or others have been less than helpful is irrelevant- it takes 18 cents to keep a kid alive. Think you can spare 21 bucks to the World Food group to feed someone for a year? There are more than enough worthy causes, but if there is any more dire than this- donate your time, money and efforts to your hearts content.

I once listened to a man, a catholic youth minister as it were, say something to the effect- "I don't give a shit how busy you are- there's thousands of people dying every day... And what's really sad is that you're more surprised that I just swore over the fact that people are dying." ----------------------- *Flash Was Here...*
