  Suicide Run (Dark Dragoons)
December 3, 2006 4:48:44 AM    View the profile of Kami
The brisk, early morning air swept unmercifully across the concrete tarmac outside the Dark Dragoons barracks to assault the six shivering recruits who stood at attention on the parade ground. All had received a summons from their assistant squad leader, Gunnery Sergeant Kami the night before, detailing that they were to meet at 0600 hours in full battle gear for an 'introductory training session.' They had however, been kept waiting for over an hour, and despite the climate control mechanisms of their armor, were starting to feel the cold.

"I don't think she's coming," Kael drawled, more at ease than the others as he was familiar with the squads command structure, "Maybe we should all just go grab some caf."

"She's probably testing us," Twin Blade piped up, another of the squad's established privates, "Waiting for us to move out of formation so she can jump out from behind cover and lay into us."

"Pfft," Kael reached up to remove his helmet, revealing a tussled mass of blonde hair, "She probably just slept in."

"It's better to wait than be sorry," Durandal, a newly placed Dragoon responded, his intense blue gaze sliding to Kael's, "Unless you want to get in trouble?"

"It wouldn't be the first time," Kael quipped back, a crooked smile crawling across his features, "Besides, it's friggin freezing out here. I ain't going to be able to move soon let alone carry out some training exercise."

"Well I'm not moving," That was Galant, another of the newest batch of recruits, "Think she'd mind if we stamped our feet a little though?"

"I don't think we have to worry," Twin Blade tilted his helmeted head towards the side of the parade ground, "Here she comes."

All six recruits instantaneously snapped to attention, Kael unceremoniously jamming his helmet back over his head as their assistant squad leader made her way towards them. As she drew closer, all could see that she was carrying a rather large duffel bag bearing the insignia of the Vast Empire Army along its side.

"At ease," Kami dumped the duffel bag at her feet as she reached the Dragoons, her green eyes sweeping over each individual form, "And Kael, put your damn helmet on properly."

Looking somewhat sheepish despite the fact that his face was hidden from view, Kael reached up and readjusted his helmet so the visoured gaze was facing forwards instead of sidewards. Smiling despite herself, Kami addressed the troopers,

"Sorry about the delay, but I was organizing a few things. If you'll all follow me, we have somewhere we need to be."

Curious despite the cold, the Dragoons glanced at each other, then followed as Kami wheeled around and stormed back in the direction that she had come. Knowing better than to ask questions, each naturally fell into the formation that had been drilled into them at the academy, tracing their ASL's steps over one of the large hills within the army compound and towards a small, steel compound that was obviously their designation. Removed slightly from the surrounding buildings, the compound had a newly constructed look, its gleaming walls relatively unmarred by the elements.

Coming to a halt before the glass door, Kami punched a pin into the keypad on the wall, then walked through as it opened with an audible hiss. The Dragoons trailed after her, past a small booth containing an intense array of electrical and monitoring systems and five or so technicians clothed in dull Imperial grey. Pausing again before another large door, Kami cast the duffel bag at her feet and withdrew a strange looking rifle, shaped like an E-11 but bearing a series of glowing numbers on the side.

"Welcome to our new simulation center," Kami began, her voice echoing in the enclosed space of the compound, "Beyond this door is the sim room, capable of projecting incredibly accurate real life battle situations. Since we've been inactive for such a long period of time, Sam and I thought we'd give you the chance to have some fun while polishing up your skills."

Casting the rifle in her hands at Sayah, who caught it, Kami continued, "These will replace your E-11's for the duration of the exercise. Each has been modified to count the number of shots fired, and the overall hit percentage of each of you once you are in the simulation. They will also count your 'virtual lives' which I've asked to be increased to 3 for this training session, predominantly due to the fact that I'm throwing all of you into a heavily defended Rebel base."

"What?!" Kael was the first to speak up, echoing the thoughts of his other squad mates as he spoke, "How's about 300 lives as opposed to 3?"

Kami offered an evil grin, "You get 3. Once you move inside and the simulation starts you'll be alone within the expanse of a Rebel complex. You can choose either to meet up and work together with the others, or to stick it out on your own, though I heavily suggest the former option. Once you're discovered, the AI is going to get very hairy."

"Do we have an objective?" Garra asked from the rear of the group, "Or is this just a free for all?"

"Oh yes," Kami's expression, if possible, became even more malicious, "You have to track down and take out the two commanding Rebel officers within the base. They will be in easily defensible positions, and will probably require a little creativity and a lot of guts to get to."

"Sounds like a suicide mission," Kael spoke up again, "And a hell of a lot of fun."

A few of the Dragoons laughed, Kami included, "Yes, it's extremely suicidal. I doubt you'll ever find yourself in such a ridiculous situation as you'll be in once you get through that door, but the main aim is to have fun, push yourselves, and practice shooting some Rebel filth. Are there any questions?"

"Will you and Sergeant Sam be participating?" Durandal asked, taking the offered 'bogus' E-11 from Kami, "Or sitting this one out?"

Kami flashed him a wink, "Oh we'll be participating. Sam will be along shortly."

"Maybe we stand a bit more of a chance then," Twin Blade said, "8 against a platoon."

"I never said we'd be on your side," Kami responded, offering a sly smile.

"Ooo," Kael raised his phony rifle to a ready position, "I'll be buying drinks for whoever takes out the Gunny and Sam."

"Good luck trying," Kami laughed, rising to the challenge, "Now has everyone got their rifles? We better not shoot up the inside of the simulation room." As all the assembled Dragoons nodded, Kami glanced over at one of the technicians and nodded, "Open her up."

The technician complied, opening the large doors at Kami's back and revealing a cavernous steel paneled room. The Dragoons filed in and stood uneasily in the doorway, each glancing back to where Kami was still standing in the hall. She offered another smile, "Sam and I will join you soon. Until then, good luck staying alive."

The doors groaned, then clamped shut, sealing the recruits off from the real world and casting the new Dragoons into virtual hell...

Durandal sighed. all alone in the simulation. He took a quick look at his surroundings, he was in a dark room full of storage boxes, the light was too dim to make out what the lettering on the boxes said and he didn't dare use his own light yet. He listened in the room for a minutes and heard nothing. No people. So he was safe for a moment. He started up his mission clock and went to work.

He looked down at his rifle, it was an ugly weapon, angular like the fire arm it was modeled after, but with a large bulge-like box on the side.

He pulled up his tac-map on his visor, resting his back against a wall. He marked his entry point for reference and called it "storage room one" to perhaps use as a fall-back position until a better one was found, and to know where he was in relation to where he started. He then pulled up his priority list and filled it in:

1. Find others in squad.
2. Recon area.
3. Avoid engagements alone.
4. Find and take (dead or alive) the rebel leaders.

"Great," he silently muttered to himself. He had an urge to move out quickly, but instinct and training stopped him. No need to rush in and get himself a ticket right out of the simulation.

He pushed his way quietly past boxes and scouted the room, finding only one door. He didn't like this one bit, but found he had no choice but to exit that door and look for the other Dragoons. Just before he hit the release button to the side of the door he stopped, and hit the light button instead. He turned back around and he quietly opened up one of the boxes, finding that he needed to know what was in them. He pushed up the lid to find nothing more than food. He sighed, disappointed that he had not found a weapon cache.

He went back to the door and switched off the light. He steeled himself for a moment, and made sure the safety on his blaster was off. He pressed the release and the door slid up to reveal a long corridor, lined on either side with presumably storage doors.

He walked out and the door behind him shut. He moved down the hallway, his E-11 raised, and he came to a crossing. Strangely, it was devoid of any rebels. He moved faster now, rounding each corner with his blaster leveled, and tried to find a control panel.

He found a large room, with computers all over, and no one at the stations. The silence and the lack of staff made him uneasy. He walked up to a computer and looked around before setting down his E-11.

He searched the computer and found a rudimentary map of the complex, he quickly uploaded it to his own tac-map. Unfortunately there were no descriptions on what each room was, the map just showed a basic layout of the complex.

He closed the window and left the computer as he had found it, hoping who ever worked there wouldn't notice. He then proceeded to work his way along hallways to what he thought was the 'hanger'. As he passed a medical bay he labeled it on his map. He decided to take a look inside.

In the medical bay he found his first rebel encounter. Not hesitating he shot the Staff, leaving none of the doctors in the room alive. He moved through the dead bodies, wanting to clear the area before someone came to check up on the place.

He proceeded down another hallway, marking the Medical Bay on his tac map. He looked up and saw his mission clock read 0:33:26.

Durandal came to door and opened it, revealing a large barracks, filled to the brim with what appeared to be new recruits. Time stood still for a moment, as all the rebels looked at him, mouths agape, and he stood there, holding his E-11 tightly.

Only a few of them were armed, and Durandal opened fire first, walking backwards and turning to walk back down the corridor. He fired a few shots to stop them from coming out, and he hid around a corner.

Seeing that many rebels had shaken him up. Especially after having encountered none for the first half an hour in this hell hole. He turned back around and shot at the open door, dropping a recruit who had picked up a pistol the officer had been holding. He shot at the door control panels and watched the door slide shut and lock. That would take care of them for a moment. He policed the pistol and strapped it to his leg with a length of cloth from the dead rebel recruit.

With that he marked off the Barracks and moved down the hallway. He found himself skipping a lot of doors, and when he came to a large set, 100 meters down from the barracks, he decided to open them. He walked in a large room, full of tanks and speeders and skiffs, and lots of technicians, all of them armed.

He rolled back behind a tank, and watched the bolts fly by, one of them hitting had grazed his arm as he had dove for cover.

He poked up and shot at the technicians who were all running away. He stopped, looking at them confused, then realized he was next to a tank, one he could drive.

Durandal smiled, and hopped in and looked out the viewport of the T4-B heavy tank. He turned it on, and moved it forward, its treads protesting at first. He shot down the engineers and then using the concussion missile launchers, started destroying the other vehicles.

The technicians that were left ran out of the room, leaving Durandal all alone in the hanger. He hopped out and went to a door on the far side. With his E-11 leveled he opened the door...

A hell of a lot of fun indeed...

As soon as Kael had discovered what the squad was going to be doing he had been psyched, a chance to show his squad what he was capable of! The desire to do the best in this simulation overrode all other feelings of teamwork and friendship, After all... friends were only friends when it suited them.

As soon as Kami had left the room Kael had crouched down in anticipation, glancing at his squad mates stances, judging their reactions to the coming simulation. He had been ready for a straight up firefight, a competition of brute force and willpower....but he had expected to at least be given a chance to fight...

The door of the simulation room and slammed shut and Kael had to blink as the lights flashed off then on again, in that blinking span the room had gone from the metal walls of the simulation complex to the metal walls and bars of a rebel prison bay..

"SITHSPAWN"

There was no doubt about it, he had been spawned into a detention cell.

Bet Kami had the techs do this on purpose

A grin cut it's way across his face underneath his helmet, he knew he deserved it.

Glancing down he noted he still had a weapon, a large 3 showed on the vid-screen attached to the blaster, telling him his lives, smaller screen gave him additional information such as shots fired and accuracy.

There ain't never been a prison that could hold Kael Ja'Kar

He surveyed the cell, trying to find any weaknesses or flaws in it's construction...the room was maybe 4 meters either way and made of a dull metal alloy, the door was made of the same materials but included a small barred window into the corridor outside.

He immediately dismissed the idea of calling for a guard and considered his other options,

The only thing I have that other prisoners would is I have a weapon and this armor

Hundreds of idea's flowed through Kael's head, most impossible and some plain stupid....

Wonder if I can pop the powerpack out of this thing

Kael removed his helmet slowly, hoping that doing so wouldn't end the simulation and cost him a life. He let out a breath when the world didn't change and examined the inside of his helmet, drawing the knife he cut through the fitted cushioning on the inside of the helmet, reaching inside he pulled some wires aside and found what he was after. He reached in and yanked out the small powerpack that powered both night vision and comlinks and a host of other systems within a storm troopers helmet.

"Not much juice, but enough hopefully"

With a quick splice he hooked the powerpack up to the doors electronic lock and tripped the wire that would usually engage the comlink, the full energy flowed into the doors keypad, effectivily wiping it and sending small sparks tittering over the surface.

With the small sizzling noise and a groan the latch popped open and Kael had to restrain himself from shouting out with glee, he settled with pumping a fist into the air. A large grin rested on his face as he replaced his mutilated helmet and let the door swing open

Since when do things go right for me! That never happens

He was right......

As the room's color started to blur and images flashing by, Urakai waited a few seconds to adjust before realizing he had just spawned in a control centre. He was standing on top of a computer console, with a dozen eyes widening at his presence.

That can't be right&

He quickly jumped down onto the metal floor with a clank and lifted his E-11.

"Just some spawning error& I'll just go out the door and just& pretend you never saw me." Urakai said stupidly as they raised blaster pistols and rifles.

Urakai yipped as he let on a burst run against the door, clashing against the cold metal with no budge. Before Urakai could swear, sliding down the metal, he heard pistols fire. Turning around, he saw about five red glowing rods stopping right in front of his face. Relieved, as the images buzzed and disappeared as a wall took its place, Urakai stood up to explore the area.

Damn it that was weird. If that counts as setting off the alarm, I swear I will hack into this gun and boost my lives!

He stood up, checking his gun before surveying the room he was in. A chair was right in front of him slid into a desk with a data pad and pen. Urakai picked up the data pad, curious, and found it was schedules. Checking his watch and times, he found that a new recruits interview was in half an hour and a meeting of rebel commanders and officers  was taking place in the main bunker.

Grinning, Urakai slipped the pad into a pouch on his utility belt and made his way over to the door. Before his hand made it to the numbers on the door, it opened revealing a startled face.

"And so it begins" Urakai send, letting a bolt loose. It exploded into his chest making him spin out, hitting the floor with a thud. A smiling Urakai made his way stealthily through the door into a larger room with desks and more computer tabs. His training twitched as a clutching sound on a trigger made Urakai fall back, fast, letting his armour absorb the shock and pulling the trigger. Letting rip a bolt spark into a rebel guard's torso right as a bolt flew over him, Urakai grinned.

This is really fun, not like my regular training.

Then a door slid opened as three rebel soldiers rushed out to see what the commotion was all about but, to their dismay, found six bolts fly their way. After each got their black mark from the explosive blasts, they fell down. Right after Urakai got up, his intense hearing told him that numbers were being punched into keypads on the doors all around him. Looking around, he realised this was a body to one of the barracks. Jumping inside the room he got the pad from, he crouched down against the wall, ready for a suicide run. Doors opened as disturbed men piled in, but before Urakai could spring out, a door opened as another squad member walked in.

Shocked, he looked around and swore right being diving inside the door again right before a squad of bolts exploded on the door side, some flying inside but overhead the trooper. Using the advantage, Urakai opened fire from his position, blasting six troopers already but having to jump out to dodge an array of bolts leaving their black mark. Urakai realised it was Durandal who joined in on the firing and before long they had blasted out the entire barracks.

"Nice dive Durandal" Urakai laughed as he helped Durandal to his feet.

"Heh, nice attack&. Urakai?" the trooper asked, not entirely familiar with his voice as he was the newest addition to the squad. To Urakai's nod he said, "thought it was you. Well, got any info because I really got no idea what to do now, I just murdered a whole group of technicians with a T4-B tank!"

"Wow sweet, glad to know they keep the spirit alive even in here. Well I found this pad, they got a meeting going on in a main bunker somewhere but I think we just alerted them so scratch that idea." Urakai said unfortunately.

"Hmmmmm" Durandal thought for a minute but as he was his eyes ran over a great threat that posed it's self to them both. A camera zooming in&

"How are they going?"

Kami glanced up as Sam walked into the room, already clad in the appropriate uniform for the exercise, "Hey there soldier. They're doing well, though I think we have the AI set a little low, the Rebs are pushovers at the moment."

"That's something we can remedy isn't it?" Sam shot a questioning glance at the nearest technician, who grinned and nodded, "Good, we want this to be at least semi-realistic."

"AI level is set." The technician piped up, her fingers flying over her console, "I've also alerted the base to the presence of intruders. They will now react appropriately."

"Seems like a good time for us to enter then," Kami came to her feet and grabbed at the peak cap resting nearby, sliding it over her dark hair, "How do I look Sammy?"

Her squad leader flashed her a smile, "Like scum"

Kami grinned back, "Good. So do you."

"You'll have to enter through the side door," The head technician was saying, his eyes huge behind his glasses, "So as not to interrupt the flow of the simulation."

"Will they realize we've entered at all?" Sam asked, his gaze flicking to where the Dragoons where displayed on the screens littering one of the compounds walls.

"There's the chance the sim may flicker, or pause momentarily, but there's no announcement," The technician waddled out from behind his console, clipboard in hand, "If you'll please follow me."

Kami and Sam trailed after his wizened form as he walked to the other side of the main entryway and into a small corridor that curved to the side of the complex. Cast into darkness, they followed blindly until the technician abruptly stopped and raised a hand, "The entry is here."

There was the slight hiss of a panel being opened, before the technician reached out and guided both troopers towards the doorway, "Good luck in there."

Feeling an open space before her, Kami stepped away from the corridor...and suddenly found herself in a glaringly bright command room filled with four Rebel soldiers. All immediately snapped to attention as they became aware of her presence, whilst the closest, bearing an officer's markings offered a relieved smile,

"Thank god you're here Commander."

Durandal paused, looking at the camera, watching the lens focus and swirl chaotically. Those kinds of weird things fascinated him, but then he got bored, he lifted his E-11 and shot off a few rounds, turning the camera to smoldering wreckage.

"That's bad," Durandal said looking up at Urakai. He turned to the door that rebels had stormed through moments before. He quietly opened the door to find a long hallway, no one door on each side and a larger door at the end of the hallway. Above the doors on each side in basic Durandal read the words Armory room 1 and 2. He was almost scared to try those rooms, thinking other rebels might be on the other side with an entire arsenal of weapons at their disposal. He walked to the edge of the hall, motioning for Urakai to wait on the other side of the armory doors, he pressed the activation and slowly the door slid open.

Hovering over the floor in front of him was a T1-B Hover tank, its two laser cannons pointed directly at Durandal. He was frozen; his hand lowered his E-11 pointing to the floor. Quickly he pressed the activation panel, closing the door, half-way through the entire environment around him flickered slightly, and the door appeared completely open again. The simulation seemed frozen, so Durandal took the advantage and started back, the door started closing again and he could hear the tank whining. The doors sealed shut and seconds later he heard a loud thump as the lasers fired into the door. Somehow the doors held.

Durandal ran back up to one of the armory doors, as he was punching the open sequence for the armory the door behind him exploded; he looked back through the clearing smoke, his H.U.D.'s holographic display showing the tank  in a wireframe outline, making up for what he couldn't see with just the naked eye. On the side were three ports on each side of the tank; they were Proton Torpedoes.

Durandal sighed, he had forgotten about those, he raised his rifle and nodded to Urakai, motioning toward the armory. The door opened and he rushed in, seeing only three people and one other door in this room, that and a large rack of weapons, everything from power packs to the out dated T-21 light repeating blaster. He took three quick shots at the rebel forces, who seemed too stunned to act, and looked to see Urakai run in the door just before another explosion came from the tank's torpedoes.

Durandal looked around quickly, searching for anything to take out that tank. It was Urakai who found it or them rather, a crate of third class concussion grenades, meant for taking out vehicles specifically. He hefted one and pulled the pin, tossing it down the hall at the tank, and Durandal grabbed one, tossing it as well.

Two seconds passed, two seconds that seemed like an eternity. And then one, two, no three consecutive explosions as the grenades tore through the tank. Durandal peeked around the corner, and saw an open shell, the top of the tank peeled open like a banana peel. He turned back and surveyed the room. "Let's get some weapons, and open up the team on the comm, we need to get organized..."

A doorseal hissed quielty and several shots rang out. Quietly, clutching a stolen vibroblade, Sayah slipped into Armoury 3.

The few rebel troopers inside never knew what hit them, as Sayah quickly blew them apart, taking careful aim as to avoid commiting virtual suicide by blowing up the armoury. Checking a data terminal, Sayah estimated the position of the main corridor and sighted... Moments later, a section of wall exploded violently.

Clutching a DC-17 in one hand and a E-11 in the other, Sayah sprinted along the corridor. Hearing voices, he stopped and pussed the doorseal slightly ajar. The two rebels inside, on a break and drinking stim-tea, never knew what happened. Sayah took a moment to download a map of the compound onto a datapad that he took with him. Coming to a dead end and hearing footsteps, he turned and shot blindly, killing a rebel trooper sneaking up on him.

He turned back and came to a fork. Running along the high ceilinged chamber, Sayah saw a walker in front of him with its floodlights turned directly on him. Sayah sighted and fired. The rebel trooper fell out of his seat and landed, his skull fracturing with an audiable crunch. Two more well aimed shots turned the AT-RT walker into a blazing fireball. Sayah fled, knowing that even the most pathetic AI could ignore a noise that loud. He heard explosions coming from the other side of the compund and headed towards the apparent location of his squadmates, as shown by his datapad.

Sayah activated several battle droids in Armoury four. He had wiped out the few rebel troopers inside and another light walker with his DC-17 and a few vibroblade slices. He, seeing the neeed for more firepower, had sliced into their control circtuits and jury-rigged a master control, which he held in his hand. "Cause a diversion." he ordered. "If there are too many, activate the explosives." As they squads marched off, Sayah allowed himself a grim smile. The rebel scum would have their hands full for a while. He took off at a dead run and heard distant and sudden blaster fire ring out, followed by several explosions. Sayah suddenly grinned and ran towards his squadmates.

Sayah came running up to Durandal and the others, embarassed that he had gotten so lost. His HUD flickered slightly as he stopped. "Sorry I got sidetracked. What did I miss?" Noticing the crate of third class concussion grenades he took several in case another AT-RT turned up...

The two technicians operating the simulation darted their gaze over to the glass doors as they hissed shut. They stared in awe at the man, clad fully in stormtrooper armor, standing before them. He took a couple of steps before coming to halt. The confused looks of the technicians were only met by the cold, emotionless expression of a stormtrooper's helmet.

"I'm sorry, this simulation room is unavailable for the time being. The Dark Dragoons, a squad from Wildcard currently has this facility booked." Blurted out one of the technicians, still baffled by the man's sudden appearance.

"So I heard. That's why I'm here." Replied the man very calmly. He slowly removed his helmet, revealing his mismatched eyes and chin-long brown hair.

"Neither Senior Sergeant Sandwich Sam nor Gunnery Sergeant Kami Sharpe mentioned anybody else would be joining the simulation." The other, female technician replied, suspicion raising in her voice.

"Let's just say I'm...unexpected." The man replied coolly, a huge grin spreading across his face. He couldn't be any closer to the truth.

"I'll need your name for the simulation's records." Replied the technician with a shrug of defeat. "I take it you already know what simulation is running?"

"Yup, I've already got the info." The man replied. He placed his helmet back over his head and started walking towards the side door of the simulator.

"Oh and the name is Zafo, Gunnery Sergeant." With that, he stepped into the simulator.

-------------------------------------------------------------

When the computer generated world around him had fully loaded, Zafo took a couple of seconds to try and determine where he had spawned. The only light in the room leaked through a crack between the door and the floor, keeping most of the room hidden in darkness. As his eyes started to get used to the darkness, he noticed a white form standing in front of him. Within a split second, Zafo has his rifle raised, aimed directly at the figure. The strange part that kept Zafo from unleashing a wave of energy in the second half of that same second, was the fact that the figure repeated the exact maneuver.

"A mirror" Thought Zafo, as he cautiously approached his faint reflection. In the background, Zafo heard a familiar breed of lounge type music. When he removed his helmet, we was assaulted with the stench of vomit and urine. Instantly his location became obvious.

"The Bathroom of the Cantina." Zafo muttered to himself, half disgusted and at the same time, half overjoyed. By now the small amount of light passing under the door was enough for him to see relatively clearly.

"If I'm going to survive in this hornet's nest, I'm going to need to keep low. Rationalized Zafo. It had been a while since he was last involved in any form of combat, but his common sense had not quite faded.

Within a minute, Zafo had stripped from his stormtrooper gear and stashed it in one of the stalls. He inched the door open, trying to catch a glimpse of what he would find on the other side. Just like he suspected; a cantina. For the most part, it seemed relatively empty.

Zafo darted from the bathroom to the nearest vacant booth. He placed his rifle under the wooden table in a desperate attempt to keep it hidden from view. The chill music and smoky atmosphere made him feel very inconspicuous. Lighting up a cigarra, Zafo called for a waitress and ordered a glass of whiskey. It was a routine he had grown very familiar with in his days before the Vast Empire.

When his drink arrived, Zafo tipped the waitress very generously. His gaze followed her afterwards until she reached the main bar. There, a rather scrawny young man was nervously pouring drinks and shakely handing them to the waitress. Even though the waitress was no longer in sight, Zafo kept his gaze resting on the bartender. In the dim light, the bartender would never notice.

Zafo's throat warmed as he took a big swig from his glass. He was still observing the bartender. By now, Zafo has established that he would be the easiest target. When the waitress got to the counter, the bartender spoke into her ear and pointed to the washroom. She nodded in response and hopped over the counter. The Bartender nodded in appreciation and quickly skidded over to the bathroom.

Zafo's chance was laid out right in front of him. He couldn't spend much longer sitting around while his squad mates were probably engaging masses of rebels. Picking up his rifle, Zafo discretely darted into the bathroom...

Suddenly seized by foreboding, Sayah leaped behind the crate as a set of blaster bolts passed through the space where he had been standing a moment before. Exchanging fire with the troopers, Sayah gritted his teeth. There were far too many for him to deal with. Suddenly a blaster bolt hit him in the chest and his helemt cam suddenly deactivated. Sayah took some deep breaths and calmly waited. Blinding light filled his eyes and when he opened them again the crate, and the troopers were gone. The reek of ozone and spilled fuel drifted through the air. (to be expanded)

"Intruders have entered the base!"

The young virtual New Republic officer opposite Kami spun at the sound of the warning from one of his seated companions, "Give me more details!"

"I have notice of three separate engagements with stormtroopers," The Republic soldier at the large command console responded, "Fatalities in Armory 3, one of the smaller hangers and control room 2A."

The officer turned to Kami, his facial expression impressively realistic, "Orders?"

Abruptly realizing that she had to play along, Kami wiped the amused smile from her face and flicked her gaze to the facsimile Rebel before her, "Confirm their locations. Alert the base. Equip and deploy all off duty squads."

The officer before her arched an eyebrow, "Are you sure ma'am? I mean, it's only half a dozen troopers. I doubt we need to deploy all available squads."

Kami's upper lip curled in disapproval. If such insubordination had been shown to her by a lesser ranked member of the Vast Empire she would have set them quickly back in line. Yet here she was substituting as a New Republic soldier, and the New Republic had a strange command policy born from their idealistic democratic beliefs.

"Deploy all squads," She repeated slowly, settling her stolid green gaze on the officer's, "And please do not make me repeat myself again."

The officer hesitated for the barest of moments, then turned towards the team of soldiers manning the command consoles beneath him, "You heard the Commander. Sound red alert. Lock down all armories. We don't want them getting their hands on any more of our weapons."

"Have we heard from..." Kami paused momentarily, racking her brain for a reasonable rank, "...the Colonel?"

The officer's other eyebrow raised to join its twin, "Colonel Sam?"

Kami nodded, relived that she had guessed correctly "Is he on base?"

"Yes ma'am," The officer tilted his head towards the large screen displaying a complex map of the entire NR complex on the nearest console, "He touched in just moments ago. Following the first alert he geared up and made his way down the barracks."

Kami nodded again, stepping back to allow the officer to move past her and continue to shout orders. Sam must have been spawned within one of the barracks, a relatively dangerous position for the rest of the Dragoons as he was now in direct control of a virtual Rebel army. Glancing back over at the map the officer had indicated, Kami noted that her current location, the command center, was set to the very rear of the base in an easily defensible position above the rest of the complex below. It also had the advantage of having a small barracks at its base, so as to quickly provide reinforcements if the need arose.

Silently wondering about the manpower of the base, Kami turned to the officer only to see that his features had frozen stolidly in place, his mouth partly open as if cut off halfway through a sentence. Turning about in a small circle, she realized that the entire room had frozen in place, virtual troopers frozen mid movement by the simulation.

Glancing up at the ceiling, Kami raised her voice, "What's going on? Are we having technical problems?"

It was a moment before a voice answered, ringing about her, "We apologize for the interruption Dragoons, we're having some difficultly with a power surge that cut through the facility a few moments ago."

"Can you be a little more specific?" Sam's voice cut through the air, causing Kami to jump. She couldn't see her squad leader, yet the strength of his voice suggested that he was close by. She had become so immersed in the fake world about her that she had forgotten that they were all enclosed in the same room.

"Well, yes sir," The technician's voice hinted at bad news, "Our safety conductors failed to adequately cope with the surge, and I'm afraid that one of your troopers has been shocked as a result."

"What?!" Sam's voice flared up in a rare display of anger, "How badly? Who?"

"He is in a stable condition," The technician responded, "We have already removed him from the simulation. Private Twin Blade is currently enroute to the medical bay."

"What kind of sim center actually tries to kill its users?" Kael's indignant tone sounded behind Kami's position.

"Kael, calm." Kami warned, rubbing a hand across her face before once again addressing the invisible technicians "Is everyone else ok?"

The voice above her made to respond yet was cut off at the series of answers from Galant, Durandal, Urakai, Zafo and Sayah about her.

"Perhaps we should cancel the simulation?" The technician queried.

"Can you assure us that this was a one off occurrence and that my trooper's will not be endangered again?" Sam asked.

"Yes, and I apologize profusely Sergeant, I assure you that this has never happened before."

Sam let out an audible sigh, "Carry on with the simulation. I'd like an update on Twin Blade soon though."

"But of course," The technician's voice crackled as the floor beneath Kami hummed, "Restarting the simulation. Good luck."

Abruptly, the officer in front of Kami came to life, the room filling with the noise of an on edge command room, "....and make sure that Sergeant Atkins is full aware of the details!"

The officer turned to Kami, "Base is on full alert as requested."

Above them, the red light on the wall flickered, and then came to life, following by a loud klaxon of warning that threatened to drown out all other noise in the room. Shifting her concern about Twin Blade to the back of her mind, Kami forced an approving smile on her face. Things were about to get interesting.

Kael gingerly stepped over the corpse of the rebel soldier, wishing to himself that the simulations were not so realistic. The mans screams still reverberated in his mind...

It's just a simulation...get a hold of yourself

Sheathing his vibro-blade the private advanced cautiously up the hall-way of the detention center, reaching the most likely exit he popped open the doors maintenance hatch, splicing two wires together and hoping he wouldn't trigger any kind of alarm, the door swung open soundlessly when he thumbed the controls.

Well....guess things aren't going as bad for as I thought

A whooping alarm and flashing red-lights dominated Kael's senses as they triggered suddenly

"Attention, Imperial Troops have entered the base! REPEAT, Imperial Troops have entered the base!"

A surprised shout managed to reach Kael's ears above the announcement and blaster bolts followed it.

Typical....

The trooper threw himself down the corridor, blaster bolts blowing chunks out the the walls around him, wildly spraying shots behind him, scrambling along on his stomach Kael threw himself around a corner and tried to calm his heartbeat

It's just a simulation!

This thought burned his way into his mind as he calmly stepped around the corner, his false e-11 held steadily before him. The three rebel guards that had been in the process of sprinting down the corridor after him never had a chance to raise their weapons, they died as they tried to stop their frantic pace and bring weapons into line.

"Easy enough....now to find me this commander"

Thoughts of a hot meal flashed briefly through the privates head and a grin split the man's face beneath his helmet

Might even be done in time for dinner...

[OCC: Since technically I just returned to active duty at the beginning of this story (before the HSC), Im going to continue writing as such. So you newer Dragoons technically don't know who I am yet. Just thought I'd throw that out there. [/OCC]

Melee combat was never Zafo's specialty, but he'd learned enough back in his days at the Academy to eliminate the bartender without him letting loose even the smallest sound. Once he'd stripped the man of his uniform, Zafo dragged the lifeless body into the stall alongside his discarded armor.

Zafo knelt down to inhabited armor and removed anything that could prove which side he was really on. After all, Sam and Kami were the only Dragoons that would recognize him. All the greener members would shrug him off as another Rebel, and act accordingly.

By now the sticky floor and burning stench had become overwhelming. Rising to his feet, Zafo shoved his rank cylinders and Dragoons crest into his pocket. He grasped the doorknob and took a deep breath before slipping out of the bar, un-noticed.

Zafo had to shield his eyes when he first entered the hallway; it was considerably darker within the Cantina.

"Considerably more comfortable too... Zafo thought with a groan. Maybe that wasn't the greatest place to have him spawn after all.

Zafo stood still as he pondered his next course of action. So far, his plan was basically limited to disguising himself as a bartender.

"I should probably try and help from behind the lines as much as I can before I get caught..."An alarm which felt directly on top of him exploded into an annoying, deafening wail.

"Guess I don't have much time."

With that, Zafo turned and began to walk. He had no destination in mind, but was hoping he'd stumble across something useful. Somehow, these things always had a habit of happening...

Sam was standing in front of a platoon of fifteen rebel soldiers, all of them looking at Sam with curious faces. Sam quickly straightened his posture.

"As you all should be aware, we have some imperials that have infiltrated our humble little base here," Sam retorted with a smirk, "We will have the pleasure of dealing with them. Make me proud."

A few chuckles could be heard through out the group, which caught Sam's attention quickly. He shot a sharp glare in the direction of the chuckles. The room became dead silent.

"I guess, you all don't realize that you will probably die out there," Sam said sternly, "You there, Barbie, step forward."

A tall rebel soldier stepped forward. The soldier was one of the few that could look Sam straight in the eye from height.

"Yes sir?" the soldier said firmly.

"Name and rank," Sam said quietly with a deadly air about it.

"Lance Corporal Rparta Teustist," the soldier said with a wobble in his voice.

"Well, I bet you a thousand credits that you are the first to go," Sam said.

The entire group had a stunned look on their faces. This was apparently unorthodox treatment in the Republic military system. Sam gestured the soldier back into line.

"Alright, let's head out," spouted Sam. The platoon was silent and ridged as they moved out the door. Not even the squad leaders spoke.

Sam led the group down the corridor towards the armory. All the soldiers had their rifles poised to fire at the first sight of the intruding imperial soldiers.

"Major Kami, I need a report on the locations of the intruders," Sam said into his comlink.

"One moment Colonel," Kami replied.

Kami turned to the officer next to her, "Have you confirmed the locations of the intruders?"

"Not all of them ma'am," the officer replied, "There are two of them in the armory. It is advised to not engage directly. These two may have major fire power already in position."

"Sam&err, Colonel," Kami started catching her self nearly breaking character, "There are two in the armory and it is advised to avoid direct combat."

"Thanks Kams," Sam said completely oblivious to his break from character. The two squad leaders behind Sam looked at each other, but chose to avoid another thrashing from the Colonel.

With in a few moments Sam and the rest had made it to the armory door. He gestured to split the group on each side of the door. He then tossed down an image caster in front of the door and opened the door.

Just as the door slid open, the image caster shot Sam's likeness walking through the door. Urakai and Durandal were caught off guard from seeing the tall heavily armed Zabrak waltz into the armory.

"Sam!?" Durandal gasped, "Already?"

The image of Sam gave out a chuckle and a smile before moving out of the room.

Cutting off her connection with Sam, Kami paced back towards the large opaque view port that looked out over the extensive base. She had no doubt that the two Dragoons that Sam was on his way to meet would be unaware that their squad leader was temporarily batting for the other team. Examining her reflection in the glass before her, Kami briefly closed her eyes, battling with a surge of sudden emotion. Her sister, identical to Kami in almost everyway except hairstyle, would have looked exactly as she now did, clad within the olive green uniform of a New Republic officer.

"Major?" The baby faced officer in charge of the control room, Lieutenant Holt if Kami remembered rightly, took a wary step forwards, "We have a report of a break out in the holding cells. One of the initial Imperial scouts we captured earlier."

Kami turned to face the Lieutenant, "I'll deal with it."

Holt's expression turned stricken, "What?! Pardon me to question you again Major, but we have men available to deal with this without requiring you to personally become involved."

Kami was already moving towards the doorway, gesturing to the two Republic soldiers standing on either side, "You two, come with me." The two soldiers snapped to attention, before turning and following their commanding officer out into the hallway beyond.

"But Major! Major!" Holt started towards the doorway only to give up as Kami's lean form disappeared from view. Biting back a curse, he spun on his heel and stalked back towards the consoles where his staff were curiously observing his increasingly erratic behavior. Forcing a deep breath into his lungs, the non existent Lieutenant resumed his position by the command chair, silently cursing the strange behavior of his new director.

*        *        *        *        *        *

Kami moved swiftly down the metallic hallway leading to the command centers detention block, silently signaling one of her escorts to take point as they rounded the final corner leading to the access turbo lift. Above the trio, the alarms had died down, although the lights marring the ceiling every few meters still flashed every few seconds, lighting the way with an eerie red glow.

The guard in front of her hesitated at the corner, raising a clenched fist to signal a halt. Turning back to Kami and the other guard he raised a single finger, then gestured that their escapee was incoming. Switching places with the guard, Kami raised her E-11 to her shoulder and slowly inched about the corner to take in the stretch of corridor beyond.

A lone white clad Stormtrooper was gradually making his way towards her, his armor showing the telltale char marks of a blaster fight. He moved cautiously, his visoured gaze scanning the hallway before him, his rifle held point ready if any trouble presented itself. Recognizing the loping gait of Kael, Kami suppressed a smile, switching the safety of her ersatz weapon off. Taking a steady aim, she centered her rifle, and then gently pulled down on the trigger.

Her shot flew true, striking the young Private in the right shoulder. He let out a yelp of surprise before returning fire, his shots splashing harmlessly against the bulkhead Kami was now sheltering behind. Spinning out from behind her cover, Kami responded, laying down a steady stream of fire which forced Kael to dive side wards to prevent from being skewered. Desperate, the private slapped at the access panel of the nearest doorway then disappeared inside.

"Why didn't you kill him?" One of her guards hissed in a low voice, his confusion evident, "You had the perfect shot but took him in the shoulder?"

Kami offered a predatory grin, "Where's the fun of the hunt if you take your target down in a single swoop?"

The guard pulled a face, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with her statement. Coming out behind the corner, Kami signaled that the two soldiers pace her, then followed in Kael's footsteps.  The real reason for her off line shot was purely educational. She and Sam had brought the Dragoons into this simulation for a reason, to learn, which they would do very little of if the two squad leaders constantly burnt them down. She was simply waiting for Kael to show her what he was capable of when under pressure and outnumbered, something her replica escort would be incapable of understanding.

Checking the charge on her rifle, Kami walked purposely forwards into yet another darkened hallway, readying herself for another confrontation with her squad mates.

Wherever the action was, it defiantly wasn't in whichever hallway Zafo found himself wandering down. The lack of stormtrooper armor gave him a feeling of uncomfortable nakedness. "Good thing it's just a simulation..."

Faintly, Zafo heard footsteps, out of sync with his own. Instinctively, Zafo halted immediately, raised his makeshift rifle, and readied himself for attack. The echoing steps grew in loudness, and it became apparent that there was defiantly more than one guilty person. Looking down at himself, the fact that he was clad as a rebel bartender quickly flooded back into his mind. If he had any hopes of keeping his cover, he defiantly couldn't be seen standing alone in some deserted hallway, even more so with a rifle.

Zafo's eyes quickly darted around his surroundings, looking for a means of escape. Luckily there was a door no more than ten meters ahead, embedded in the right-hand side of the hallway. Without waiting for another second, Zafo sprinted as light-footedly as possible towards the door.

Zafo pounded at the keypad beside the door. Nothing Happened. A stream of curses followed subsequently. Zafo's fingers raced across the small keypad in a second attempt to open the door. Once again, nothing. A bead of sweat formed on his forehead and trickled down to his brow, before being wiped away. The Dragoon knew any other efforts would be futile. Zafo was about to raise his rifle and simply blow the controls away as a last resort but he was interrupted by a shout.

"Hey! What are you doing!?"

Zafo quickly spun on his heel to face a group of seven battle-ready new-republic soldiers. The one leading the group bore the insignia of a Senior Sergeant. Zafo quickly snapped to attention and threw the Sergeant a salute.

"Though it's YOU who should be doing such for ME, before I blow out your brains." Thought Zafo through surpressed rage. All the rebel ever saw was a smile.

"...Private First Class...Ziggy," Belted out Zafo. And not out of nowhere. For a long time the ex-bounty hunter operated under the name of Ziggy. However, that was a life he had learned to push to the back of his mind. "Too many unanswered questions...Too much unfinished business..."

"And what is your buisness here, private." Demanded the Sergeant, with more than just a hint of malice. "The base is under lockdown, you should be with the others fighting off the invading Imperial scum."

Zafo almost gave up his three lives just to drop his rifle and beat the Sergeant down. He changed his mind when he realized that would achieve absolutely nothing; as much as he deserved it, the Sergeant was only computer generated and would feel no real pain.

"I was told to fetch the security back-up tapes for the hanger." Zafo quickly replied. It was improvisation, but not entirely unbelievable.

"Really..." The sergeant began, his eyes showing a hint of amusement. "Here's what I think. I think, that when the red alert was sounded, you ran from your position in the bar and tried to flee the scene of action."

"I may be a Private, but I am no coward." Zafo stated boldly, locking into the Sergeant's gaze and returning one just as threatening.

"Then who sent you?" Demanded the Sergeant, his voice growing with impatience.

"Sam." Zafo stated confidently. He had been given the same briefing as the other Dragoons, so he knew both Sam and Kami were clad in the same dark green uniform as the men in front of him.

"We'll see about that!" The Sergeant hissed, "and that's Colonel Sam to you, private."

Another one of the New Republic troops watching the entire showdown tapped the Senior Sergeant on the shoulder and whispered something into his ear.

"Ah, perfect!" The Sergeant shouted aloud. "Seems like you are coming with us, boy. The Colonel just so happens to be assisting with defending the complex just where we were headed. This way, you get to fight, AND we get to see if your story is at all what you say it is."

Before Zafo was even given a chance to reply, the New Republic squad had began moving, keeping Zafo sandwiched in the middle of the crow so he could not escape.

"Privates." He heard the Senior Sergeant say with a laugh.

"Rebels..." Thought with a sly, twisted smile.
"We'll see who's laughing in the end..."

Durandal shook his head and raised his rifle, pointing it at Sam. He motioned for Urakai to gain some cover just in case. They had back packs on, loaded with virtual artillary, and they backed away from Sam as he stared at them. He looked over them and shook his head.

"Your only this far? And you havn't shot at me yet?" he chuckled slightly.

Durandal paused and crept towards the right, where an E-web lay set up, " I can't help it sir, its your.. godly presence that keeps me from shooting" He snickered under his helmet. See, it had taken him a second, but the Sarge had messed up. For this sarge was a hologram. Normally you cant tell even with a stormtrooper helmet whether or not they are holograms. But the sarge had made a horrible mistake, holograms couldn't set off mines, and he had placed a pressure sensitive mine at the two doors.

It's possible that Durandal may have messed up and not set the mine correctly, but he was counting on his luck and skill and triple checking to assure him that he had. He looked towards the open door, and saw a rather tall rebel peeking in the door. He looked a little, goofey, standing there holding his rifle awkwardly. But Durandal just smiled and held his rifle at the sarge-hologram, keeping up the charade.

Urakai must have noticed the mistake too, cause he was holding a grenade, but hadn't primed it yet, waiting till the mine was set off before throwing it. Finally Durandal shot at the hologram, begging the Sarge to be the first one through the door.

As fate had it, the goofey kid bellowed through, and virtual guts splattered everywhere as he and about four other people were blown to bits. Just after the explosion Urakai tossed the grenade, but apparently his hand must of fumbled or he held the grenade wrong, cause the grenade was too low, and hit someone dead on the chest, bouncing off and landing a couple meters in front of Durandal.

Durandal could feel the concussive force as it blew up, sending him flying back, and tumbling backwards to the un-mined doorway. He rolled end over end till finally he was sitting, slightly dazed. He could see the rebels had been slowed down by the force of the grenade as well. The hologram was flickering but somehow it was still active, and Urakai was blasting away at the rebels keeping them down.

Finally he saw Sam. He was holding a grenade of his own, and he chucked it at Urakai. But by some weird fate the grenade hit him right in the head, stunning him for a second, while the grenade bounced towards Durandal. This time Durandal rolled and took cover. After the grenade went off he leaned up over the cover to see what was going on, the rebels were pushing their way in with superior numbers but Urakai was laying down a hail of fire with his E-11.

Durandal joined in, adding his firepower to the defence. Finally the rush of soldiers stopped. And there lay at least two dozen dead bodies, none of which, were the Sarge. He had been smart, trying to soften us up. But they were ready. Durandal was in the corner of the room, next to the E-web, he charged it up and waited for it to reach full, while doing so he motioned for Urakai to fall back to the other one in the other corner, for over lapping fields of fire and better defence.

They were stuck for a moment. Out side one door was a tank, and outside the other was Sam and his forces. They couldn't do very much at the moment, as both the tank and the forces seemed impossible to get through.

The E-web finished charging up and he undid the safeties, and aimed at the door Sam had been earlier. All he could do for the moment was wait. And hopefully things in the Armory wouldn't get too hot.

[ooc: i was gonna have myself die from the second grenade, and come back to life in front of Zafo's group of troops, but switched that out for this instead.  anyways, i know the armory's gonna be hot, so whoever writes about that area next (zafo, sam or Urakai are the only ones i think) feel free to kill me if we're over run :P]

Looking stunned was uncommon for the young soldier, and with years of experience, it would be hard to surprise Urakai, but he could not believe it. How could they just get a tank inside without us hearing it!?

Coming back to reality, he lifted his rifle and snapped, "We got to go!" Springing up he quickly picked an extra rifle off a rack, but stopped as he saw Durandal looking at a crate, showing no sign of moving.

"Wait up," Durandal whispered as he jumped behind another crate and pulled the top off, "I don't think they understand the position they are in." He finished with a smirk.

Urakai peered over too see cases upon cases of concussion grenades, thermal detonators and emp grenades. Smiling in awe, Urakai heard footsteps behind him and he quickly spun around and closed the other door that led out, firing shots just before the doors closed, he heard screams.

"Crap!" Durandal said, grabbing out a case, "And you'd think they would had blasted the other door down by now..." Durandal and Urakai both looked up at each other, as if reading each other's mind.

With a case of grenades in hand, Urakai waited for Durandal to blast the doors. As he lifted his rifle, he pulled the trigger down and let a blast rip the air and a soon as it hit the door, a huge explosion shook both the hall and the armory. Urakai and Durandal were both blown back, Urakai smashing into a rack of explosives.

Dropping to the floor, he saw the fumes catch fire of crates with opened lids. Quickly he turned to Durandal and screamed, "RUN!!!"

His warning was too late as one of the crates blew up, sending massive explosions around the room. Getting blown back into a wall, he caught a glimpse of Durandal jumping up and trying to get through the bit of blasted wall.

He could only stand and watch as the rack of explosives caught fire and blew him straight through the steel wall and smashing him into the next. Argh, that would be a test for this armor in real life. He groaned as he landed on the ground, realizing he was now wearing black, almost melted armor.

"Durandal!" He yelled as fumes came through the hole. His helmet's vision was foggy and his helmet was filled with smoke so he pulled it off, to lay in horror as he saw burnt rebel bodies lying around the blown door. Crawling away from the smoke, he tried to stand but just limped down the hall and laid against the wall.

What just happened? How the hell did those doors blow if we didn't put an-... They were going to blow it! Well... They got what they deserved, now, sleeping with the flames. Jeez, did that get Sam? Or the tank?

Suddenly he jumped up, wondering if the limping was part of the simulation, as he heard a lot of footsteps coming from down the intersecting hallways. He ran back down the hall until he got to a door right across from what was left of the armory's door. The flames were growing bigger and were flying out of all the cracks from the wall so Urakai dashed through the door just before five squads of stunned troopers came from all directions down the hall to try and put out the fire.

Urakai dropped to the ground and looked up, finding himself in a medical room. Relieved, he went to jump up, but then looked down. There, in his hand was a case marked as THERMAL DETONATORS. Crap... I forgot about them... His thoughts were soon disrupted by a blinking light on his rifle that he had carried, a blinking light that read 2.

"Erm, Major, you aren't lost are you?"

Kami ignored the hesitant query by one of the members of her escort as she rounded another hallway, attempting to look like she knew where she was going, when in all reality she was completely lost.  The command center was a virtual beehive of corridors, armories and meeting rooms, which made the 'enemy' Dragoons substantially hard to find.

"Major? Major!"

Irritated, Kami halted and looked back at the young, red faced guard that was refusing to stop harassing her, "I'm not deaf private."

The guard glanced at his older companion, who offered a grim smile, before clamping his mouth shut and nodding almost sheepishly, "My apologies Major."

Rolling her eyes heavenward, Kami spun on her heel and resumed her aimless wandering of the hallways, silently contemplating calling a break and taking some much needed downtime.

"Major," The older of her entourage touched her lightly on the shoulder, "I just received word from one of our Senior Sergeants on route to the Colonel's position. He suggests that we meet up with his group and pursue the Imperials together."

Kami arched an eyebrow, "Where is he currently?"

"Not far from here," The soldier replied, "In fact, if you'd allow, I'll get his team to bypass our position?"

Offering the wily guard a thankful smile for subtly preventing anymore embarrassing queries about their chosen direction, Kami nodded her agreement. The trio came to another halt as the guard contacted the Sergeant and confirmed that they were waiting.

A few minutes passed before the sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor behind them. The three spread out, rifles at ready, before the friendly colors of the New Republic came into view, borne by a small group of heavily armed soldiers. The haughty looking man at their head walked forwards and snapped to attention before Kami, "Senior Sergeant Gallow at your service. I must apologize for the wait, we picked up...a straggler of sorts along the way."

He turned; gesturing to where a lone trooper, clad only in a serviceman's uniform was standing in the center of his troops. The soldier glanced up, seemingly realizing that he was the topic of the conversation, his mismatched eyes widening slightly as he recognized Kami.

A smile flashed across Kami's face in response, "I don't know how you get yourself into these kinds of positions."

Moving cautiously down the darkened hallway Kael kept a eye out for any enemy movement, the alarms had been halted quite a while ago and he had seen almost no movement in the base.....he was also hopelessly lost.

What I wouldn't give for a help desk right now

He gripped his rifle tighter and tried to keep his mind on the mission

There would have to be a data terminal around here somewhere..

This thought was interrupted by the whine of a blaster shot and a solid impact in his right shoulder, almost immediately pain lashed throughout his body causing the private to let out a loud yelp, his mind froze up but training took over and Kael found himself diving for cover and returning fire without fully processing what he was doing.

Can't stay in the corridor, making myself a easy target

Seeing the closest door Kael took a chance and threw himself towards it, slamming the access panel and letting his body fall through. He landed heavily on his right shoulder and the the pain almost made him pass out, black strands appeared at the corners of his eyes.

It's not real!

Forcing himself back onto his feet the private half jogged, half limped further into the small room in which he was  now occupying, he glanced around for a suitable object that could be of use to him as either a weapon or a barrier in the soon-to-arrive firefight. Kael's face, previously distorted with pain hardened into a grim smile

That'll work real nice

* * * * *

The rebel guards were not new recruits. According to the sim system in which the two guards existed they were grizzled veterans that had survived more then one battle in rebel uniform. Along with their commander the two moved swiftly and surly towards the doorway in which the lone stormtrooper had fled, ever alert for any movement  or hints of a trap. Reaching the door they deployed silently on each side, reading weapons before triggering the panel.

The door shot open with little noise, no blaster fire greeted the duo. With a silent exchange the two rebel soldiers advanced silently into the pitch black room, spreading out and straining senses for any sign of their quarry.

* * * * *

The troopers moved silently forward, looking for their quarry, one of them thumbed the illumination switch and a large clanging noise accompanied the sudden brightness. The door had slammed shut at the same time. Glancing again at the panel the soldier saw it had been crosswired to the door controls.

A low, bloody laugh echoed throughout the room and both rebel soldiers aimed at the source.. their quarry, now with his helmet removed proved to be a young, rakish looking man casually sitting in one of the rooms low chairs, seemingly unarmed.

"Stand up and put your hands on your head imperial, there is no where to go from here"

The stormtrooper flashed them both a grin and turned his hand over.....nestled inside was a thermal detonator....it's timer flashed brightly as it counted down from five, a low almost mournful beeping sound accompanying it.

The timer flashed to one before searing heat washed over the three, last images planted in their minds for eternity.

Revan opened the door to he simulation room. He hated being late, especially being so green to the Imperial Corps. It made him feel like such a rookie. Instantly, he felt the stares of the techs in the room upon him, and he swallowed hesitantly.

"Sorry I'm late to class," he said boldly, trying to maintain a higher air than the lab techs, "New marching orders... new to the Squad."

The techs remained silent for a moment. Revan knew it was because of his armor model, the old Commando suit wasn't common in the least anymore, but due to his handling of explosives, his higher ups had agreed to let him use it thanks largely in part to it's flexibility and strength. Handling heavy ordnance called for such demands.

"We've already had one intrusion no one told us about," one of the techs spoke up, "I suppose you have ord--"

Revan cut him off by tossing a datapad to him. It landed softly in the techs hands, "There's all the info you'll need," he said bluntly, "Transfer orders, permission to join the rest of my squad, and a hall pass from my superiors in case you wanna make a call on the validity."

He walked up to a rack with the gun replicas being used, "I suppose I take on of these," he asked, noting the counters and stats on the display, "Plug me in, lab rat," he told the tech, almost a demand.

*******

Revan landed on the ground with a thud. He felt his legs buckle a bit as his feet connected with the floor, "Damn techs," he growled, "Probably left me a foot in the air on purpose..."

Click Click... Click

"What in Primus's..." Revan looked up, "Ohhhh... The techs really are asses," he decided, looking around the room. Almost a dozen Rebel soldiers had their scopes locked onto him.

"Tell Colonel Sam we found one of the infiltrators," one of them said to another with a comm-pack on his back, "Ask him if he wants us to dispose of him now, or if he wants to interrogate him first."

"A moment, please," Revan asked, holding up a finger to silence the Rebel while he spoke, "What if we all just played dead?"

He pulled two grenades from his belt strap, and pulled the pins, and let one drop to the front, near the soldier who was just running his mouth, and another behind him.

"My only regret is that I've only two more lives to live to kill for my Empire," he said with a grin under his helmet, "I'll be right back..."

BOOM! BOOM!

*******

Revan shook his head again. This room was darker, but at least he was all alone this time. He looked down at his counter: 11 kills, two grenades. Two lives left.

"Well, I won't be winning any awards for longest life span," he grimaced, then clicked on his communicator. He didn't want to relive what just happened again, so he whispered. No telling if the line was being listened in on.

"Dragoons... This is Spartan106 PFC Alden. Is anyone there..?"

Explosions were everywhere as the Armory erupted. The entire room had been blown off the map and anyone within 50 feet down the halls had been vaporized.

In a last ditch effort, with the tank and the platoon blocking them,
Durandal had stacked all the explosives in the center and set off all of them, causing a chain reaction in the room and blowing him and Urakai to smitherines, as well as the remaining rebels and the tank.

Durandal's vision was dark, as the game set himup and he respawned. He appeared in an empty hallway.

He hit up his tac-map and his radio, waiting for any sense of danger and trying to find out where he was when suddenly-"Dragoons... This is Spartan106 PFC Alden. Is anyone there..?"

A message cut in on his radio. He hit up the radio and replied," Alden, this is Durandal, I'm uploading a tac-map of the area, do me a favor and give me your location. And i'll meet up with you."

He sent the tac-map out and waiting impatiently, after a few minutes he recieved a package, and there was the exact location of Alden. He smiled, noticing that it was just a door down, on the same hallway.

He walked to the door and opened it. There was Alden, his rifle raised in reflex. Durandal had his hands down and looked over the trooper in his older armor. He looked good.

He walked in and shut the door, and after locking it, turned around and explained the situation to Alden.

[ooc: urak, zafo, and sam, as i didn't survive the explosion, it is feasable that you may have been injured or killed, sam i can understand only being injured, since he isn't supposed to die so easily, but hey, iunno at any rate, i hope this was good, and didn't make too many people mad.]

Why haven't I respawned yet? Urakai asked himself as he picked himself up and examined the room.

It didn't look like much but a medical room. He picked up a bacta tank, which he immediately dropped as the door slipped to the side. To his horror, half a dozen New Republic Troops scrambled inside before they released their grip of the trigger. Urakai stood frozen as this had only happened in a matter of two seconds. Before the bolts could explode onto Urakai, his body began to turn into static and the imitations of life just stood in amazement as they vanish. Urakai now stood on top of a table. He had spawned in a bar, luckily a deserted bar. 'Bout time...

Outside he heard large amounts of footsteps and running as their boots clanked on to the metal floor covering. Urakai jumped down and ran to the door, stooped right near the control panel. He opened the door and eye width and peek through the crack.

"Wow..." was his only statement as he was peering into a large mess hall with an estimation of about ten squads, each with a dozen troops.

Urakai closed the door quickly, a little too quickly as a few troopers noticed the sound and alerted their squad leader. Now Urakai was worrying as they attempted to open the doors. Quickly, Urakai grabbed his thermal detonator off the side of his utility belt, and, as the door opened, he threw it as hard as he could before closing the door again.

"My eye!" screamed a voice on the other side of the door before the explosion erupted screams.

In the event, the explosion forced a massive dent in the door, and as the troops ran to open it, the dent blocked the door from slipping into the narrow opening. Urakai ran down to the actual bar to find if there was any means of escape. There was, to the side of the bar there was a small hallway that lead to a door. Urakai smiled but then wiped the grin off his face as the door opened halfway from all the banging. Now they started slipping in through the doorway. Before they could figure out where Urakai was, he had already pulled the pins off two concussion grenades and sent them hurtling not toward the troopers, but toward all the alcoholic drinks.

There was only am inch left of time for Urakai to sprint down the hallway and get inside the door. The explosions went off behind Urakai and he felt a force try to lift him up, but Urakai kept his ground. As the drinks started to catch fire, Urakai opened fire on the control panel to the door. He blasted the door open, only to be shut again by Urakai as he dashed inside and punched the control panel. Now ducking, Urakai did it just in time to avoid a collision with flying debris! The walls smashed in and chunks of metal clashed into the room. Urakai looked up and rolled just in time to miss a foot wide metal chunk.

"Dragoons... This is Spartan106 PFC Alden. Is anyone there..?" came an unfamiliar voice from Urakai's belt.

"Argh" Urakai groaned as he stepped up, noticing the fire was green, then changing to reddish green.

He looked do find a small crunched piece of metal at his side. It was a comlink! Of course! I forgot about it! He picked the comlink up and before he could respond, another voice traveled through.

"Alden, this is Durandal, I'm uploading a tac-map of the area, do me a favor and give me your location. And i'll meet up with you."

Durandal! Quickly, he pressed the talk button, but found it was smashed outward.

Before he could examine the damage, a burst of black smoke shot through the smashed wall followed by a few screams.

"How the hell can just one squad do more damage than our entire bunker!" shouted an officer as waves of men ran through the now blown door that led to the bar.

It would only be a matter of time until the troops flooded the room  down the hall, the room he was in. Quickly, he sought an escape, but all he could see was a small hatch at the top of the room. Good enough He thought as he jumped up and punched a small control panel to the side. After landing, he jumped again, this time, grabbing onto the hatch lid as it lifted up and climbed out. He was now in a dark room and, to his surprise; he turned his head to see Durandal crouched, lowering his blaster rifle next to another trooper.

"Wow" Urakai said as Durandal grinned.

Then Durandal stood, helping Urakai up and asked, "Was that you who sent us into the wall?"

Urakai smiled at his humor, but then turned around to see a half destroyed wall where he could see, through cracks, New Republic troopers scrambling around.

Revan nodded, "Friend, I take it," he said with a sarcastic smile, standing next to the two of them, "By the way, don't think I was formally introduced to either of you gentlemen: I'm Revan Alden, Demo-Tech.  New to the squad."

The situation didn't call for pleasantries to be too brought out, "Any of you have an idea on how to exit this room, assassinate some officials and not lose lives while doing it?  Not to be selfish, but I already croaked once here, and I'd like to keep the other two lives I got to myself."

Revan sat back against the wall and started looking over the tac-map.  For the most part, the room they now sat in was isolated from the rest of the compound in the sense that nothing but wall surrounded them on everyside but the door leading to the hallway.  Air ducts and function tunnels were laid through all over the building, but none of the Dragoons here, in armor at least, would be able to fit through any of them.

What made him mad the most, was that at the end of this hallway was entrance to both the armory and on the other side was the first of the junctions to the under-level garbage system.  Both could be put to great use if they could just get to them...

He bit his lip and sighed a bit, "Urakai, Durandal...? How many lives do you guys have left," he asked.  He didn't want to risk losing more lives, or those of his new comrades, but with this situation, that seemed unlikely.  And that type of sacrifice was becomming more likely by the minute.

Sam stood up slowly after being tossed against the wall from the massive explosion. All around there were bodies of his squad scattered about the ground.

"Sir," a voice coughed from the smoke of the burning room, "Sir?"

"Yes, what is it?" Sam groaned as he stood.

"We need to get out of here before anymore munitions go off," said the shadow gesturing Sam to follow him.

Sam followed the republic trooper and regaining his balance along the way. The thick black smoke made it hard to see where one was going. The nearly solid blackness filled into the lungs of those encased in it. The roar of the flames, along with a few random explosions, deafened the ears to the coughs of people still fumbling around in the armory.

As Sam and his guide broke forth from the sea of black smoke, a blinding light poured into their dark adjusted eyes. Sam squinted to try to see a bit better.

There were Republic soldiers rushing here and there. Poking the wounded with bacta syringes and placing bacta patches on them. One of the medics grabbed Sam and rushed him over to a table.

"Have a seat sir so we can get you cleaned up," the medic said quickly.

"I'm fine," Sam said sternly as he tried to get up. The medic pushed him back down on to the table.

"No you aren't," the medic replied, "You have a major wound in your leg from shrapnel and deep cut in your arm."

"Look here," Sam said piercingly, "I've had worse. Give me a bandage and a bacta syringe and I'll take care of myself."

The medic had a look of shock on his face, as if he had never been spoken to that way by a wounded soldier. "But sir," the medic began.

"No but sir!" Sam shouted, "I told you what I needed. If you haven't notice I am a Zabrak and we can take a lot. So do what you are told before I make you less of a being."

The medic quickly retrieved the supplies the Colonel had requested. He tossed the bacta and bandage into Sam's lap; then scurried off to help others. Sam wrapped his leg and arm. He took the bacta syringe and slammed into his leg, empting the crystal blue liquid into his thigh.

"Kams, I need an update on the situation down here," Sam said into his comlink a few moments later. He paused waiting for a reply.

"Two." Durandal and Urakai responded at the same time, glancing at each other.

"This place seems so small. I think we should leave soon, though." Urakai suggested, peering through the cracks as dozens of men ran around the room, keeping away from the actual bar in the cantina.

"What about the armoury? We could stock up there." also suggested Revan, smiling under his helmet at the thought of explosives.

"Been there, done that." Durandal noted as Urakai laughed.

"Yeah, such a waste of explosives. Too bad-" Urakai was interrupted by a sudden stop of scurrying footsteps.

"In there, I heard someone!" yelled a stumbled voice and a click rang from a small control pad of the door.

All three troopers were stunned by the quickness of the New Republic. They all quickly jumped out of the way, stunned, as a trooper barrel rolled inside. The three of them laid fire upon him, also exploding on two more men trying to squeeze in a few shots before dying. Urakai noticed a blast heading straight for him, so, only having half a second to react, rolled to his side where he played into a trap. Another blast flew only centimeters from his head, blasting into the wall.

"Go!" ordered a forceful voice from the other side of the door.

Durandal and Urakai stood up in confusion but Revan knew exactly what was happening.

"DUCK!" Revan yelled, jumping back.

Instinct forced Urakai and Durandal back as the door blew open with flames. A squad of six burst through the door, aiming their blasters at the three stunned troopers who dropped their weapons after seeing another squad run through. Urakai saw Durandal pulled out two grenades from his Utility belt, but before he could slip them behind his back, a trooper shot his arm with such accuracy, he didn't even flinch.

"Get up! Get up now and remove your armour!" bellowed a trooper at the squirming Durandal.

Revan shot up, as if he had a secret while Urakai helped Durandal up only to be knocked down by a NR trooper.

"Remove your armour! Now!" he shouted, keeping eye contact.

Before Urakai could even touch his Utility belt, Revan unmasked three grenades from behind him, diving behind a crate as he let each one fly. To avoid the blasts that were now ripping through the air, Durandal shoved Urakai into a corner where there was a pile of small crates. Urakai figured that Durandal had seen Revan's grenades and planned to hide behind the crates that he had now dived onto. The screams erupted as bodies flew everywhere and blasts occurred, buzzing all over. Once the racketing was finished each trooper stood up to examine the damage.

"We got to go, now!" yelled Durandal as he felt the effect of the simulated pain.

Urakai picked up his rifle and ran to the blasted wall to be on the look out for troopers. He could hear faint yells from down the hall as he waited for Durandal and Revan.

"Come on!" Urakai argued as he noticed they were stocking up on the undamaged grenades from the fallen bodies. Urakai pulled two off a dead body for himself before dashing the opposite direction down the hall from the yells. The other two troopers followed closely behind, keeping rifles at the ready.

"And here we have the armoury ruins." Urakai joked as he jumped over a wall of rubble.

"Why here?" Durandal asked, stopping at the rubble.

"Because it's the only way to the barracks that we were once in. You saw it yourself, a great cover spot to pick off troopers, though they are getting toucher. We blew up all the walls around preventing any other route and if I'm right, it would have alerted all the NR soldiers, emptying it." Urakai stated as he kicked away some burning rubble.

Durandal and Revan had not advanced over the wall of rubble that separated them from, Urakai. Urakai turned his head to see a blaster barrel aimed at his eye. Urakai noticed a squad of New Republic soldiers were standing with blasters, and to his surprise, his squad leader Sam. With a grin, the solder pulled down the trigger, letting Urakai see his last images of his second life as a super heated red bolt firing up before blackening out.

Images whizzed in his mind, once again and he found himself standing inside a barracks, though not the one they were aiming for. He pictured a squad through doors, heading down a hallway before the doors closed again. He saw three rifle racks, though holding nothing, and transarensteel doors that led into bunker beds. He noticed he was wearing new polished armour and a well made rifle. His utility belt equipped with two rounds and one grenade, battle ready. He moved forward to a data console, where he read the alert system:

Alert!
Vast Empire operatives have infiltrated the base, and have already killed three squads of your comrades! With iron hearts, we will conquer this threat and continue our loyal ship to the New Republic to rid us of this evil. Be battle ready, troops, and look to your squad leader for further information of the situation. Your training will not let you down, so let's show them why we won't fail!

Revan began over the wall of debris. He looked back at Durandal and nodded for him to hurry behind him. The longer the three of them were split up, the better a chance for an attack to drive them apar-

What was that, he asked himself. It was already obvious what it was. A blaster shot. Clear as the Telos night skies. "Urakai," he asked lightly, not wanting to draw more attention to his and Durandal's location, "You hear me, 'Trooper?"

Nothing.

"Damn," he murmured, looking back down the rubble hill and towards Durandal, "I don't think we're alone. Someone is in this room, and Urakai isn't answering. I don't think he made it."

Durandal grimaced a bit under his helmet, "Can you see how many are in there?"

Revan popped his head up, and ducked it back down. There wasn't a clear view, so he repeated the motion a few times to keep from being a target. A squad of Republic soldiers waited inside, surrounding a CO with guns trained towards the entrances and doors.

"A whole squad of them," Revan said, looking back to Durandal and shaking his head, "I've only got two grenades left, and that might be enough to thin their ranks, but I can't take out the entire group. Not unless they are really well aimed, and I won't have the time to make 'em count without taking a head shot, myself. And that would leave you alone. With all them."

Durandal nodded, "Let's think of something else then," he frowned, looking down the hallway. Soldiers were making a commotion towards the bar and in the rooms at the other side, but either couldn't see the troopers, or make them out from down the long corridor, "And whatever we do, it has to be soon, because we aren't going to be alone for a whole lot longer."

Revan sat on the rubble, keeping his head down to keep from taking a slug to the back of the helmet, "Well... Looks as if the Squad inside this room is guarding Sam. But entering that fray would be a suicide run. The only thing we can do that won't end with imminent death is let the kill go for now, and try to regroup with Urakai. He'd have spawned with more ammo and a few more grenades, so that would keep us busy for a while."

Durandal bit his lip under his helmet, "I don't want to let the target go. He's right there, and leaving would make things harder later. They'd have time to regroup and fortify a position."

Revan agreed. "What if we made them think we were somewhere else? A few select detentions on another side of the base would help spread out their forces."

Durandal nodded. It would slow back-up from reaching Sam's position, "Let Urakai know. He can make things happen from wherever he is now."

Revan clicked on his headset, "Durandal, This is Revan. Do you read me? Wherever you are, we need your help in restructuring some architecture."  He waited.  Static greeted him in response, while he hunkered down on the pile of debris.

Urakai traced the message on the data console to a small tech building one story up. Urakai quickly downloaded a tech map of the area and sought a safe route. The only problem with the tech map was that he never got to read it as a squad of troopers walked through the door, obviously patrolling. Urakai span around and dropped to the floor, staying behind a metal chair. This was his last life and only chance so he was not letting his guard down on either side of. As the squad advanced forward into a row of chairs, that Urakai assumed were set up for a briefing, Urakai dashed for the door they had just come out of. To his relief, they hadn't noticed him until he got to the door, instantly closing it. Urakai pulled out a grenade and stuck it onto the door roof, bolting down a hallway. As the squad blasted through the door, the grenade exploded sending all in it's path downward.

"Hey!" yelled a NR trooper, just walking out of a door.

Urakai saw another trooper poke his head out with a blaster rifle, but Urakai had already laid down heavy fire on top of them. He also blasted the control console, jamming the controls so the rest of the squad couldn't follow. He brought up his tech map and found a route through the next door to the left that lead around the armoury. Before Urakai could open the door, his comlink buzzed.

"Urakai, this is Revan. Do you read me? Wherever you are, we need your help in restructuring some architecture." it buzzed, obviously Reven.

Picking up his now unbroken comlink, Urakai asked with a smile, "What's that supposed to mean?"

They were about 120 feet away from each other but Urakai could tell he was grinning when Reven said, "Your further out, we need a massive explosion to draw the men out."

Oh yeah. That'll be easy. Urakai jumped through the door to be stunned by the room. Inside were tanks and speeders, some aligned while some were scattered. Troopers ran all over the room, carrying ammunition for the tanks. Urakai crept behind the tank and then climbed up to see a trooper hanging out of a port hole. Urakai jumped on to the top of the unidentified tank and kicked the trooper out of the port hole before jumping in him self and closing it. There were no more troopers in there at the time, so Urakai jumped onto the controls, spinning the tank about and away from the mob of troopers who were now scrambling to get into a tank. Urakai laughed as he opened fire, sending a stream of heavy blast fire down their way. It exploded, sending massive force on anyone within a five foot circumference. Next were the tanks, which Urakai saw they didn't explode as easily as he thought. The heavy blasters pierced the first layer of armour, but only dinted the other. Now Urakai was in the corner as four tanks moved and opened fire on him not to mention the grenade launchers.

"NO!" Urakai yelled as they penetrated his tank, blowing up the left side, sending the tank rolling to the right.

Urakai was flung from his chair into the racket where he laid still inside the tank as the others advanced. As Urakai came to, he noticed they were trying to break open the tank to see if Urakai was dead or not. He quickly got up and looked around. The tank had capsized, leaving Urakai with scratches and bruises. Urakai saw at to the side was the port hole, half opened. The troopers rushed all around the tank and soon saw the port hole, rushing to it. As one peeked through, Urakai blasted his head. Before more could come, Urakai blasted at the port hole. From the outside it was dense but from the inside it was like wood. Urakai then strapped his grenade to the fuel tanks in the back which were now upside down. With a dive, he jumped out of the port hole and bolted toward the door. The explosions ripped off inside the tank, blowing high enough to crash into the roof. The explosion caused a chain reaction from the tanks. Each one blew up, feeding the fire into one massive explosion which made even the roof explode! Urakai had only just managed to get through the door and down the hall when he was picked up by the force of the massive flames that burst from the wall.

"What the hell was that?!" buzzed his comlink with a familiar Durandal voice.

"A cake walk." Urakai responded as he stumbled up to look behind him.

Urakai saw how well built the room was, and then he realized it was one of the foundations that supported the entire bunker!

Quickly pulling up his comlink, Urakai shouted, "Reven! Durandal! Keep the explosions to a minimum! I'm so stupid; I exploded one of the bunker's foundations!"

The entire bunker shook. "Lieutenant Holt, I'm going to need you to find out what the hell," Sam began but getting cut off rather quickly by the lieutenant.

"Colonel, there was a massive explosion and destroyed one of the main support beams for the bunker," Holt said quickly.

"Thank you," Sam said acidly, "Do not, I repeat, do not send any troops that way! Far too dangerous, in fact signal the evacuation code after you have two teams rig the other two main support beams."

This little idea made Sam begin to laugh manically. He knew a collapse of this facility would be the least of his worries and a major one for the imperial intruders. The squad around him had a rush of fear poor over their faces. They had never seen such a crazed look on one of their officer's faces.

Sam stepped out to see Revan and Durandal crouched behind some fallen debris. "Here is a hint for you guys!" Sam yelled.

Revan and Durandal jolted back from the unexpected thundering voice.

"You can tell the rest of the Dragoons that you don't have much time in this bunker left," Sam cackled as he waltzed back to the rest of his remaining squads.

Moments later a high pitched siren erupted out of the remaining working loud speakers, "Attention all New Republic personnel, this is Lieutenant Holt. I have been authorized to give the 'Alpha-Omega' order. This is not a drill!"

The troopers around Sam gasped in horror as if they have all just been sent to their doom. Sam holstered his rifle and began to lead the Republic troops away from the intruders.

"Sir, is it such a good idea to turn our backs to them?" a squad leader questioned.

Sam shot him a glare that pierced straight through the Sergeant's will and silenced him. "Did you not just hear the order?" Sam hissed, "It is time to go, but guess what we are going to stay. Just know that if you try to bail out, I will see you run and I will terminate you. I don't stand for traitors."

Sam flipped a tiny switch on his comlink, which allows him to speak into the Dark Dragoon network. "Looks like you guys have one of two options, leave and risk failing at the hands of the troops outside or you can try to find and disarm the explosives on the remaining support pillars. Your choice," Sam laughed into his comlink. He flipped the switch back and moved on.

Although the expression on Zafo's face was close to despair, he managed a half hearted smile, "Uh, hi Kams."

Gallow arched an eyebrow at Kami, "You know this man?"

Kami forced the smile from her face, "I know him. Unfortunately, he no longer fights on the same side."

Raising her rifle, she lined the barrel up with Zafo's forehead and pulled the trigger down before either he, or his escort had a chance to react. The high pitched whine of the blaster bolt faded as Zafo's virtual self collapsed to his knees then rolled to the floor, twitching. Despite her quiet reassurance that what she had just shot was not really her teammate and long time friend, Kami bit back a wave of nausea.

"Major!" Gallow's mouth was agape, "Why did you..."

The rest of the Sergeant's comment was cut off as the loud roar of an explosion filled the air, the earth beneath the Rebel's feet shifting upwards with massive force. Cast sidewards, Kami flung out both hands seeking support as the floor began to crumple, caving inwards and taking half of Gallow's small squad with it. Their screams were cut off abruptly as they disappeared from view, collecting with the cement of the floor beneath them.

"Major! Take my hand!" Gallow's scream was barely audible as another series of explosions sounded, causing the hallway to shake violently once again. Feeling the ground beneath her feet finally give way. Kami lunged towards the Rebel Sergeant, who clasped onto her with an iron grip. Pulling her back and away from the crumbling section of floor, Gallow led her blindly down a hallway now rife with smoke and dust.

"The pillar must have come down!" Gallow was yelling, leading her around another bend, "We need to get off this floor before the whole thing collapses!"

Still dazed, her ears ringing, Kami pulled her hand free of Gallow, "I'm fine! Lead the way."

The Sergeant nodded, already sprinting towards the stairway visible at the end of the hallway. Kami pounded after him, painfully aware that the floor was quickly disintegrating behind her. Reaching the stairs, Kami threw herself forwards onto Gallow as the last of the hallway caved in in a shower of masonry, metal and stone, crushing towards the floor with devastating force. Upside down, Kami rolled uncontrollably down the stairs, her legs tangled with Gallow's, the two striking the doorframe as they burst outside into relative safety.

Flopping over onto her back, Kami watched, horrified, as the rest of the floor came down, burying whatever remained of Gallow's squad in rubble.

"Major," Gallow was back on his feet, blood flowing freely down his face from a head wound, "We need to keep moving. If the imperials somehow manage to destroy the rest of the pillars the entire bunker will come down."

As if to cement Gallow's concerns, a male voice abruptly burst from the speaker hanging limply from the wall, "Attention all New Republic personnel, this is Lieutenant Holt. I have been authorized to give the Alpha-Omega order. This is not a drill!"

Gallow swore as Kami pulled herself to her feet, "High command's gone insane! They're going to blow up the bunker just to get rid of a few lousy Imps!"

Inwardly smiling at Sam's maneuver, Kami gestured to the streams of Rebels breaking free of the confines of the bunker, "Take me to the closest command console, someone has to get these people back under control."
