bah!
Ninjas couldn't have much better tooth care considering the era in which they were at their height, sure, pirates were reckless and didn't live forever, but at least they aimed for something higher, like fame and fortune, what did ninjas aim for? certainly not fame and doubtfully fortune, and what goods being clever if nobody ever knows about it. And then pirates are just plain tough, supposedly blackbeard took twenty four cuts from a saber and fourteen bullets before he was killed. Also, same guy, stuck fuses in his beard and lit them, literally scaring the shit out of a port Governor.

Ninjas were out for money. Perhaps not fame, but definitely money. They were mercenaries, meaning that they fought for profit.
BTW: It was twenty sword cuts and six gunshots, then he was beheaded. They kept the head and hung it from the front of the ship. They dumped the body in the water and it supposedly swam around the ship three times. -----------------------

Wow, I was surprised by the turnout on the priates vs. ninjas, thing. Sure, ninjas isn't grammatically correct, but it seems to be the way the debate is generally phrased. Thanks for the tip, though.
I liked the link to Dr. Ninja. That was pretty funny. Anyway, I updated the final tally on the first post, but here it is again, in case you didn't wanna go back to the first page.

Ninja: 7
Personally, I really could swing either way. On one hand, you have a guy who kills with stealth and skill, and on the other is a seafaring rogue... neither of which really knows what a scruple is, much less even having scruples about anything.
In reality, it'd be hard to have a pirate/ninja showdown, wouldn't it? Ninja don't really have showdowns, and pirates don't really fight alone. Anyway, thanks for all the feedback. -----------------------

that would all depend, remember pirates have pistols, muskets, amd cannons as well as sabres, in close combat a ninja would chew them up but dont forget that two possible shots a pirate might get off (fires musket, drops musket, fires pistol, drops pistol, pulls out sabre.) -----------------------

A ninja is just as likely to use a gun. They, much like pirates use whatever they have on had. But, the ninja is trained and thus has the upper hand. Not to mention the fact that pirate probably wouldn't know the ninja was there until it was too late. -----------------------

Well, on the long-range/short-range deal, a ninja is more likely to use shuriken or a hand crossbow, as those make little to no noise and are more reliable. -----------------------

I would had to say NINJA.
A pirate is a drunk who ambles from day to day taking what he wants or needs and generally has no life.
A Ninja on the other hand is a killing machine. Dressed in black you neither see them or hear them until you fall down dead, that is the only time you will ever know a Ninja has been near you. They kill whoever they want or whoever they are paid to kill. |

But not one ninja is famous from what i've seen(read), and there are some pirates are famous. which would you rather be a legend to be told for a couple of hundred years maybe more? Or a ninja a assassin trained to make a kill and die to ensure the person is dead. So far I haven't even seen or heard one famous ninja. -----------------------

ninjas, mainly because Sam Fisher is really like a modern Ninja, cause he's got that Ninja look and his tactics and things are pretty much identical to Ninjas, and if you play the Japan level in Chaos Theory, you'll grab a guy and he says you're a ninja, it's a really funny conversation. -----------------------
