I've played the demo a few times with some different mods to check them out. Looks pretty good so far. Just waiting on the full version of the game to arrive now so I can play that. ----------------------- Grand Moff Kadann, Dark Lord

I played the demo and was horrified by what I saw (in my opinion) the graphics were nothing special, the gameplay was not what I expected, I thought it would of been something liker Generals but with more planets, the space battles I found were interesting and well put together. I highly disliked the land battles because of the limit on men. ----------------------- He will give them death, and they will love him for it

The limit on men just makes it more realistic. Or... as realistic as Star Wars can go.

The limit on how many men can be brought into a battle at one time is realistic? I understand the limit on how many you can hold in the universe because of supplies, but during a battle is ridiculous I mean I would honestly have about a hundred tanks. ----------------------- He will give them death, and they will love him for it

Were you attacking or defending? Because from what I hear, when you defend you can gain reinforcements.
Think about it though: IRL, when you begin an assault on anywhere, you only have the men you send to go attack. Of course, we're dealing on a planetary scale so it's easier to bring reinforcements in. It's not so easy when you're on a Galactic scale. ----------------------- DarkDragoons

Not what I ment when you attack someone you would deploy all your forces and have a reserve squad set to fix any breaks, here you can only have a set amount of people on the "board" ----------------------- He will give them death, and they will love him for it -Gladiator

In a "real" conflict, you'd never array the entire mass of your forces in one concentrated area, especially given the artillery provided in this game. You would, instead, array battle lines across the field of battle and send individual unit concentrations on separate missions.
The game doesn't allow for the former, as is accurate, but also does not allow for a full field deployment as well. This may be a limit of the technology, but more likely is a mechanism to control the player's urge to perform a Zerg rush with stormtroopers.
It is as close to a "realistic" deployment method as I can see in a videogame. You can't attack everything at once, nor should you be able to. You also can't overrun every enemy position with your full might; then again, neither can the enemy.
In MP, this may be an issue, but we'll see when that comes into play as time goes on. ----------------------- PRF/SM Fury/VEA/TADATH/VE [MoH][SCPx2][PoC][SotE:HC][SotE:VEA][MSM][IOC]

Well for mission deployment yeah I know artillery in the back with steady support so on......but put it this way being able to deploy your mass of troopers is more of an advantage on offense than defense but defense also has that advantage if they have more troops, I guess I just wanted Empire at War to become similar to the C&C series because in my opinion those were the best strategy games along with SC. ----------------------- He will give them death, and they will love him for it -Gladiator

I'm sure the amount of fieldable men also has to do with tech constraints to keep the game playing well on us with pregressively more and more outdated machines. Total War did the same thing with both games, as for Empire i haven't actaully played it yet, might pick it up next week, dunno, just sounded like a similair situation.

Heh, I have learned that in any RTS, you need numbers, otherwise you get pwned especially by comps because they can build up a force in the production time only. ----------------------- Staff Sergeant

They designed this game for strategy rather than brute force. If you don't have something to counter your opponent's ships, then you'll most likely lose.
I've had the rebels attack me with a couple Mon Calamari Cruisers and a Nebulon-B Frigate. I didn't have any support ships at my station at that time...and if I did auto-resolve, I most certainly would have lost it. I was able to keep their lasers directed at my fighters while my bombers ripped them to shreds. If they had some x-wings or a corvette to take out my bombers, the space station would have been gone.
In multiplayer games, it's pretty easy to take out your opponent if they don't know what to counter with what. ----------------------- Grand Moff Kadann, Dark Lord

I got the collectors edition today. Fun game, seems thought that the total war strategy of gathering all your forces into one army early on and just rampaging though enemy positions one at a time would have worked better than what i did. The space battles are well enough done with the units and counter units, land battles quit frankly have me confused as hell so I'm perpetually losing them. ----------------------- {Comnet Hermit}

I have the deomo and I was confused with the land battles to. But I got it, you need to rely on your units special abilities alot in my opinion. The demo land battle I did I got chewie and Han. Chewies special ability was steal a vehicle. I stole an AT-AT, and that baby led me to victory...I would say the best thing to do on land is use your units abilites to the fullest, and make a good balance of guys to start off with. ----------------------- FM/LCR Templar/Aegis2/Phoenix/mSSD Atrus/DEF/VEN/VE/(=A=)
