Now that I live on the West Coast I thought someone may know if and when they would be having a SW convention or better yet when is Vast Empire going to have one, or at least some type of reunion or something.  It would be interesting to meet some of you, or not.  Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

To my knowledge, the VE hasn't had any type of real-life get-together.

If you're truly interested in physically "speaking" to someone, I suggest downloading Skype. It's a fun little program that works as MSN, but you talk instead of type (it does have the typing feature as well, though).

Well.... It is an interesting idea, but most people would probably not be able to go, and it might be too much trouble to organize it.

I've drank and had pizza with Three (thanks for letting me crash on the couch).  And I've had Korean and beer with Kadaan (HITE!).

I imagine there are a few more people in the club I wouldn't mind meeting in real life as well.

That said, we ARE, after all, an online club.  The premise is that we don't have to meet one another. Heth and I lived an hour from each other but we never got around to meeting. It's not that I don't like him as a person, it just never seemed to be something we both would go out of our way to do.  I don't think he minds that we didn't meet, nor do I. We still work well together in the club.

There's also the shared dynamic of it. Never mind the actual cost of putting together a meeting (do you have *any* idea what booking hotel rooms and conference areas cost? me neither, but it must be huge), it would create a situation we don't really have now.

Let me explain.

At the moment we are all on the same basic plane.  Some of us share time zones and group together accordingly, but we do have a lot of non-US members and they are just as welcome as anyone else in the club. If we consider official meetings involving just US/Canadian members, this starts cutting everyone else out.  Same thing if the Aussies did the same thing and flew Hashi in for the weekend.  It would be the difference between those members who are on IRC often and those not, but magnified.

We share a common bond as Star Wars fans and to the club.  Expanding that to involve more and more things somewhat threatens that.

By all means, go and meet anyone you want. Don't show up uninvited on my doorstep or I'll have you cuffed and trussed into the hoosgow, but you get the idea.

I'm just unconvinced we all need to see the faces behind the characters. That said, as Tal is currently just some nebulous voice on my phone, I'd pull a beer out of the fridge for him and same goes for a few others of ya.

haha, just got pass that state, my dad actually wanted to send me to france for a year a few months ago as exchange student, i told him not a damn, then i miss a year school since i wouldn't be able to study much there, so im going to frace next december till 2007 Jan,..
its sad, the convention thing...hmm, how big can a conference get on skype?

Do you mean to tell me that there is no real money behind my IC's?  I'm sure glad I didn't quit my job yet. Well if anyone hears about a Star Wars Convention let me know.  Then maybe we could have a unoffical VE night during it.  I also forgot that a lot of you are young.  The way you talk and write makes you seem older.  I really feel older now.

Well, Comic-Con is on this weekend, but I'm not planning on driving to California for it.

That would be the best concept I suppose, other than another Celebration - whenever that will be.

The idea is truly interesting, but as Fury said, the concept of booking hotel rooms, getting everyone to a certain location (after finding a suitable one, which would be difficult considering the people in other countries, and age-groups) and then getting them back. I would enjoy meeting many of you, but it doesnt seem possible.

Plus, I'm glad knowing you over my computer, its enough for me.
