This is for Febuary 1st but I wanted to get it in before I forgot.

I wanted to recognize the Crew STS-107 when last year the Space Shuttle disintegrated over the United States because of a cracked reentry panel.

This is a website for the Columbia Crew
http://www.space.com/columbiatragedy/

If you look at the website I would like to here your comments about what you think and the things you think that could have been done better.

This was a horrible disaster, and the families of the crew have my prayers, and my thoughts go out to the memories of these fine men and women.

It was indeed a terrible disaster and something i feel strongly about.

I have more respect for those people who put their lives in the line to try and help better ourselves and advance forward. There has always been a high casualty rate for them and i could not repect their bravery more.

I agree with you 100 percent because reasearching for most things today can be dangerous and flying in the space shuttle is one of them.

In the army and navy as well as the other armed forces are at great risk of dying.

As well as many other jobs like the NASA program. The astronauts know what they get into and they know they may not come back safely.

To my knowledge, there aren't that many accidents for the NASA program when going into space because it is relatively safe and such.

But I give respect to any man or women who take risks like this.

And my condolences are to the crew members and there families, it was indeed tradgic.

To my knowledge there haven't been any deaths in space for the NASA program it has been either on the ground or in the earths atmosphere.

There have been plenty of accidents though like the Apollo 13 accident that did happen in space but luckily none of the astronaughts didn't get hurt or killed.

A number of astronauts died in the Apollo progam Knight.

Also the space shuttle Challenger exploded in the 80's I think it was killing everyone on board including the person who was to be the first civilian in space.

Yeah a lot of people have died.

I was in kennedy recently and an astronaut told us the survival rate for astronauts is only something like 9/10

All those men died but none were really lost in space. It was either in the atmosphere or in testing or accidents on the ground.

columbia was in atmosphere like challenger was.  I dont know if anyone has actually died in space itself.  Exit and entry are the two most dangerous parts I believe.

One of the Columbia's astronauts was an alumnus from my university. It was a tragic day here on campus and in town when the shuttle's crew was lost, and I'm sure there will be some kind of remembrance ceremony here Monday. My thoughts go out to the families of those who were lost.

i just want to say that i'm glad there hasn't been  more deaths.
just watch a launch and look at the powers that are being produced by the rockets.
astronaunts sit on a giant firecracker and light the fuse to see what happens.
they've got balls.
...
well all except the women...they don't have balls...they have something else...um...
THEY ARE VERY BRAVE

blah makes a good point though...these ppl are strapped to a bloody firecracker...that requires a lot of bravery and dedication...not to mention the ability to risk one's life for their career, the interest and their dedication to something they deem very important.  I hope one day a method of going into space is deisgned in which you can take off like in a plane and simply glide up out of the atmosphere...its much safer that way.

You can get in outerspace in a fighter jet, you just wont get far.  Apparently, by 2007, people will be able to take flights to outer space for 15 minutes at 100,000 USD a flight.

Ya they are working on planes that can go from LA to tokyo in something like 2 or 3 hours...they go up and skip off the atmosphere a couple of times at ridiculously high speeds before coming back down.

That will be really expensive, but I am thinking they will use jet propulsion systems also :-p  In other news, Singapore Air has the first non-stop flight from Singapore to LA :-p  I wouldnt wanna be on that flight

unless they change the amount of leg room on those flights they are going to have some serious bloodclot issues to deal with.

Apparently there is a lot more leg room, but not as good service (duh, it is singapore air ).  They increased the leg room a bit in economy, a bit more in business, no first class.

no, not a foot, a few inches.  And a few hours on a plane is not a health risk if you excersize on a regular basis...you could be flying for 15 hours a week and it wouldnt matter.  Though most of those people who fly that much are in Business Class :-p

still...it is proven to be a health concern...and not everyone is in 100% perfect physical shape...they should still be allowed access to airplanes and airplanes should cater to the needs of everyone.

No, but they dont need to be as long as they excersize a healthy amount, and it isnt really bad for people, if they dont do it often
