I know quite a bit about cars and machines in general,
I know quite a bit about being poor and eating bad food,
I was a soldier once, so I know some stuff about that,
I know a little bit about words and what they look like when glued together.
I know some stuff about writing,
I have a large amount of free time,
I like learning new stuff,

I don't actually have any marketable skills. I do want learn new skills though and I do seem to sort of understand writing and people. So, if people need help with anything and the patience to teach me as I go along, I am more than willing to help. I'm always available to talk about writing and the multitude of subjects that come with that as I do know a wee bit about it.

I can and will proofread, as long as you expect a frank response. I like doing it, keeps my editorial skills sharp.

Misc other stuff.

It's remarkable to me, how many of the following skills I learned first and/or mostly in the VE.  Like, this place has helped me build the skill set that I use irl.


1.) Trained as an actor.  This is relevant, only insofar as it explains why I like multi-faceted characters with understandable motivations, and flaws.

2.) Trained as a Peer Specialist in Behavioral Health.  In other words, I have some training as a counselor, or therapist.  Relevant only insofar as it explains my interest in interpersonal communications.

3.) Writing.  I initially sought out the VE because I was looking for a Writers' Group, and I thought the DJO especially would be a good fit.  Since then, I've written more than 200 story posts for this site (and the EE, the past couple years), and completely one self-contained long-form piece, for the DJO.  Over the 5 years of Star Wars writing, I think I've learned quite a lot.

4.) Role-playing.  I had very limited experience with role-playing games, before joining.  I've read several different manuals, books, and guides, now, for various different role-playing games/systems (Star Wars D6, D&D 4E, Pathfinder, etc.).  In trying to understand why people seek out and play rpgs (so I could help the VE cater to those people better), I've learned a lot.

5.) Star Wars.  In 5 years, I've visited Wookiepedia more than almost any site.  I've probably opened it more often that Wikipedia.  As first the Chief of Naval Training (in charge of the VEN's academy), then Chief of Naval Warfare (basically the overall Dungeon Master or Game Master, for the VEN), then Chief of Naval Operations (in charge of the day-to-day operations of the VEN, and making sure all the parts function together as a seamless whole), I've learned a LOT about Star Wars.  I've built up a huge collection of reference materials, both physical books and pdfs.  And I've made a particular study of the new, Disney-ratified canon.

6.) Graphic design.  My skills are fairly narrow, but deep.  Specifically, I'm a fair hand with Photoshop, for photo manipulation or digital collage.  I've also forged relationships with a few different digital artists, over the years, who have given me their permission to use their Star Wars art for the VE/EE (oftentimes, they only want to be credited somewhere, in return).

7.) Video.  About 10 months ago, I wanted to teach myself how to make youtube videos.  I scoured the internet for Star Wars clips, taught myself how to use Adobe After Effects, and used the latter to edit together all of the former.  Is that the best or most efficient way to make videos?  No!  But the results were ok, for a first attempt, and I'm confident I could do even better next time.  Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9p0HIuyIZs

I'm an absolute luddite so thought I'd post just in case. Zero experience with web design, absolutely shite with technology so I can't contribute on that front.

I studied English/History so I'm quite good at proof reading and writing. Not sure that's much use considering the calibre of writing I've seen so far on the site!

I was a reservist for a couple of years so I know a little bit of military stuff . Nothing exciting, I was with Logistics. 

I'm an avid mountaineer, I love the outdoors, so I know wilderness stuff fairly well.

I'm good with languages too (English, Irish, Polish, German) so anything linguistics related, I might be of help.

Taken aside, I am a software engineer and educated for Security and Privacy, Digital Forensics.

1.  Programming / Software Development: C/C++, Perl, Python, C#, Java, Javascript, php, Bash; can easily learn more

2.  Databases: Oracle DB, MySQL; hardly a DB architect

3.  Network and computer infrastructure

4.  Plethora of computer security (hardware, software, usability) and digital forensics techniques.

Hmm for me I would have to say, fairly fluent in Star Wars Stuff, very heavily fluent on military history between American Civil War and Vietnam Specifically. beyond that, not much, lol.
