I have been considering the ID Lines we use, and I was bored in class, so I have come up with a way we can represent our ranks graphically in our ID Lines. As well as a way to show the time the person entered the VE, or the time they were promoted to their current rank, depending on how the command would want it used, anyway here they are.

Ways of Denoting time in Rank/Time in VE
Using a series of colored symbols to denote both date of attaining rank, and years since then.
Example:
\\\\\\\\.

The way it would work is this, in the above symbol, going from right to left. the green dot on the right represents one day. Each of the red slashes to the left of that dot denote 7 additional days. So \\\. is 22 days. The yellow slash denotes a single month, while the two white slash represents 5 months, thus \\\ is the 11th month, or November. Finally the green slashes all the way to the left denote the number of years that have passed since that date. Thus \\\\\\\\. means that the person either was promoted to their current rank, or joined the VE on the 22nd of November, 2 years ago, (Or November, 22nd, 2006) this would be useful when looking at a page depending on what it is used to denote because it will either tell the person looking at the ID line in the signature that the person was promoted on such and such a day (Useful for determining rank seniority when both people hold same rank) or when the person joined. (Useful when someone is looking for an experienced person for advice, or if the person made a comment on one of their posts). I know it is possible that you will say that this is to difficult to implement, but I was not on computer and had nothing else to do, so I figured that I would use the time doing something for the VE, whether it would be used or not. As an example, if my ID line were to be changed to fit the above it would be:
FM/(SCR)}} Slasher/Nazgul 2-3/Phoenix wing/mSSD Atrus/1st Fleet/VEN/VE/(=*A*=) \\\\\.

This is denoting both the day I joined and also the day I was promoted, because they are identical.


Also, one final note, The ranks can be done in such a way that the Enlisted Ranks use Gold rank emblems, the NCOs use Orange or similar, and the Officers use red (With gold/yellow stars for FAD up). Which would lead to the following adjustments:

Final note, While I welcome comments on the feasibility of using these things, I do NOT want any comments saying it was a waste of time, because I have mentioned above already that I was just wasting time when I designed these, but as they were designed for the VE I wished to post them here. I have also designed another set for the Army which I will add to this post once I finish typing it in.

Actually, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate and say I like it. Seriously. Can you add colours too?

I don't want to smash anyone's pumpkins, but I'm going to agree with Angel. The creativity and time put into this is definitely superb. It's obvious a lot of thought was put into this.

However, there is that implementation problem. Some of the problems I see are:

1) Just pure confusion - I suppose there would be a page with a list of the symbols and their description, but it would just seem (to me) that it would just clutter the signature line.

2) I'm not sure how it'd fit into the current ID line system, nor would I really understand how the current ID line format would be modified.

3) The dating system also doesn't seem very intuitive to me. If I saw a group of colored slashes and dots together, it'd probably take me a good 15 minutes to figure out how long that member joined/when that member joined - I could just click on their profile and look at "Date Joined". :P

So, as mentioned, it's excellent work in terms of creativity and thought, but I would find this very difficult to implement into the current system.

Nope, actually it was not boredom that caused me to change my name. It was recommended to me as the best way to continue in the VEN.

And frankly, the above comments are generally to the effect that people LIKE the idea, but that it is too complicated to implement. However everyone is entitled to their opinion about my work. I will continue to continue doing it, because you never know when I will find something people will appreciate, and also be able to use, I have so many ideas of things I can do, or recommend to have done, that would make things much more interesting, and/or would make the VE run better.

Just to clarify for your sick mind Jager, the | is the officers Collar, and the * to either side is the rank insignia, get your mind out of the gutter. This was not meant to be fodder for crude jokes.
