Good lord, the weather has been terrible lately. Tanus thought as he checked the reports on his computer. His recent venture to Strak with the rest of the Stormtrooper Corps had left him no worse for ware, but he was beginning to feel the mission in his body: the nightmares had been hellish and he couldn’t get the barren, irradiated wasteland out of his head. As he pulled out a glass and a bottle of scotch, Riqimo walked in with a folder and several datachips. Tanus moved frantically to put the bottle away, but Riqimo just waved his hand and smiled.

“Oh spare me. Offer your PC a drink and we can get started.”

Tanus pulled out another glass and put ice cubes in each glass. He poured some of the brown-amber liquid for both Doc and himself. Doc took one sip and winced a little; he wasn’t used to Onderonian scotch whiskey. Tanus merely chuckled and took a large sip from his glass. It burned all the way down – he had missed that feeling. He put his glass down and folded his hands across his chest, staring at Riqimo.

“Well, what do you have for me Doc?”

Doc slid the file across the table to Tanus, and it came to a stop right in front of him. The datachips soon came after.

“About a day ago, we received word of visiting Imperial dignitaries to the planet Balmorra. This is very important, because Balmorra is a neutral planet. The dignitaries are there to sway the populace into joining our cause, but unfortunately some of the populace doesn’t see it that way. To answer them in a sense, they have started committing various acts of terrorism around the city. Now the dignitaries will be there one more week, and it looks to be all-out war of they don’t leave sooner. There have already been some attempts on their lives, but no one has come forward to claim responsibility. The local security forces have declared martial law, but that doesn’t seem to be helping, and they are getting bogged down against the people. They are trying their hardest to keep the peace, but that has all but dissolved at this point. Now, this is where my work ends and Blackjack squad’s begins. I want you to take your men to Balmorra and act as a bodyguard and Special Forces detail for the local forces and the dignitaries. Keep them alive at all costs, but most of all try to maintain order as much as possible. And now I leave this in your capable hands.”

Tanus and Riqimo saluted, and then Riqimo left the office. Tanus sent out a squad-wide message:

Meet in the ready room in twenty minutes.

--- --- ---

Soon all of Blackjack squad was in the room, and they were ready to explode with anticipation. Tanus stood off to the side of the holoprojector, juggling datachips in his hands; Alater was busy lighting up another cigar. The others were getting restless. Tanus stepped forward and all fell silent.

“Good morning gentlemen. And welcome to the new Blackjack squad. Now, as you may have guessed, we have a mission, so let’s cut to the chase. About one week ago, Intel reported Imperial dignitaries on the planet Balmorra. Balmorra is a neutral planet, and they like it that way.”

Tanus popped a datachip into the holoprojector, bringing up a recording of rioting citizens.

“This has been the reaction of the people for about a week now. They really don’t want these guys there, and have even gone as far as to try and kill them. Other than that, martial law has been declared, and the local forces are doing all they can to try and maintain order, but that is a battle uphill. Having said that, there has been blood lost on both sides, and both sides want a resolution as soon as possible. Unfortunately, they seem to have different views on how this should be fixed. This whole debacle has pushed the planet to near civil war, and its making headlines everywhere. So, here is the reason we’ve been called in: we are to act as both a bodyguard detail for the dignitaries as well as extra muscle for the local forces."

"Now, when I say that I mean cooperate, but only take orders from Alater and myself; you are still my men and mine alone to keep alive. This both entails keeping watch over the dignitaries at all times as well as going on patrols and keeping the populace in check during the day. Now, the dignitaries will be there for about one week more, and we need to keep them alive until this thing evens out, so we’ll be taking our squad standard only; I don’t need any cowboys on this mission. We will be taken there via a Cygnus spaceworks shuttle with our full gear, because I have a feeling that this will get dirty quickly. Now, speaking of gear, I have some things to show you. Follow me.”

Tanus moved for the door on the right and punched in a code and it slid open; the others fell in single file and followed him in.

“This is our gear, boys. We have urban camo Shocktrooper armor, two E-HWB cannons and one Starcat grenade launcher. But now we have the personal weapons.”

Tanus unveiled three very shiny new weapons from inside of a crate.

“This is the R-88 Suppressor rifle. It’s an anti-riot weapon, so it fires non-lethal rounds that knock the target out. If we do need killing weapons, we have the E-11/F and my personal favorite, the Merr-Sonn taser stave. Both of the aforementioned weapons have a stun and kill setting, so if it’s necessary go full power. But of course, we have one more little number.”

Tanus pressed a button on the wall and parts of the wall opened, revealing a very dark and very large mass of shadow. Tanus flicked another switch and lights came on, revealing a rather large repulsorlift vehicle.

“Gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the Strikebreaker air platform. This thing is armed to the teeth, and will be our friend for much of this mission I am guessing. It has enough room to carry all of our gear around, including us, so we’ll be fine for transport.”

Tanus turned around to face the troopers one at a time, straight in the eye.

“Gentlemen, this mission is very important. If we succeed, the Vast Empire will net a new ally; failure is not an option. We leave in one hour, and the trip itself will take five. I suggest you take snacks and something to entertain yourselves. Dismissed.”

OOC:
Well, boys, this is it. Someone post us getting on the shuttle and we're good to go. Its a five hour trip, so please post something.

"Awesome, Sarge. Do we get to keep 'em?" Gates asked.

"No." the SL said. "They were issued to us for this mission."

"It is still okay if we take other weapons, too?" Gates then asked.

"Fine. But you're carrying it." Tanus responded. "Ok, move it out. We have to be on the shuttle in a half-hour."

**** About a half-hour later ****
Gates was sitting in the shuttle, smoking. He was the second one there, besides Tanus. He had the three pieces of the E-HWB in a box, as he was the heavy weapons spec, and had to carry it. He also had the riot gear and his E-11, as well as plenty of ammo and extra clothes.

He had to jam it into three bags- one for the rifles, one for the armor, clothes, and other equipment, and one for his ammo.

He also had the urban shock trooper armor on top of all that, and he had a few packs of cigarettes and cigars as well as his lighter in his pockets. He looked at his datapad for a little while, while his squadmates arrived.

He sighed, and went to the programs of his 'pad, and changed the banner from 'Dark Dragoons' to 'Blackjack' instead, seeing as the change in name didn't really change anything; the squad was still entirely together.

He thought to himself. "Kinda funny, that since I got here, we've been through three different SLs, two ASLs, and a different platoon.

"Eh, whatever. We get to fly this 'strikebreaker' thing, a couple of E-HWP, and a grenade launcher. Awesome."

*Clang!* rang out thru the transport as Tank let his spacer's chest hit the deck, before sliding it into the underseat stowage.

Garryll notes the third trooper to arrive is already in his urban camo Shock Trooper Armor with all the assigned gear in place.

*Addressing Gates* "Forgive me, Sergeant, but what is it with you guys & death sticks?"

"I can't speak for the others, but it relaxes me.  Why do you ask?"

"I don't understand how people can enjoy poisoning themselves.  As soldiers, we should make every effort to maintain our second most important weapon in best condition possible."

"But if you're saying our body is our second most important weapon, then what is our first?"

"That's easy!" says Alater as he boards the ship, "Our minds."

Noting Alater & Tanus elect not to comment on their smoking habits, Tank drops the subject & pulls his personal datapad from his utility belt.  He didn't get to know his squadmates in the Dark Dragoons; he and Alhzen were last-minute additions as other troops were rotated out.  The mission was happening so fast, there was no time to really bond, but they did earn his respect.  The rest he figures will come in time

Orobos asks "Is that some kind of GameDroid, Tank?"

"No, Sergeant.  I cobled together primers & sims to familiarize myself with the Strikebreaker Riot Control Vehicle.  They didn't have those at either Academy, and I like to know my vehicles."

"Well, now I know why they call you Tank!" exclaims Garryll.

"Thats part of it Sarge; the rest it how much has to hit me to stop me.  Nickname from my friends at the Corellian Miltia Academy, and it stuck.  Unless Tanus wants to drive I'm the default driver, as the Vehicle Specialist of the Squad.  Alhzen is a tech & could co-pilot the vehicle, and he's a Combat Medic.  But I haven't yet learned what everyone else's specializations are."

"Well, that's easy; I'm the Heavy Weapons Specialist; Orobos is a Combat Engineer (in traing?); Alater has completed his Heavy Weapon Specialist training & Tanus is (if I recall correctly) both an architectural & weapons engineer."

"Wow.  Most Impressive.  Good to know.  Well I geuss if he doesn't already, then by the time we arrive Sgt. Solvona will have planned who takes what duty on the Strikebreaker."

"So what else can you tell me about the Strikebreaker.  And call me Garryll."

"Okay, Garryll, the Strikebreaker, like the Floating Fortress, sports heavy armor of the same grade as what you find on the large walkers, such as the AT-ATs & AT-TEs.  Even Better, the Strikebreaker has more firepower than the HAVr A9 Floating Fortress!"

"Ohhh, yeeaahh..." Garryll says as lips stretch into a wide, evil grin...

"Hey, Alh!  What kept ya?" Tank asks as his fellow Dreshda-alum is the last to arrive.

"Sorry about that; I was only allowed to take a single flask of corellian ale.  So, Tank, not taking your upgraded Stormtrooper Armor?"

"We're not allowed to on this mission, Alh.  Though I suppose it makes sense politacally."

"How so, buddy?"

"A lot of the modifications we can make to our weapons & armor are illegal in most parts of the galaxy.  This mission, more so than the last Dragoons' mision is politically sensitve; they both were."

"Hmn, I think I see what you mean."

"I admit I was temped to modify the Shock Trooper Armor, but that would've only made the quartermaster prissier than a 3P0 unit, then charges would go up the chain of command until Riqimo has to come down to personally kick my can; you get the idea..."

"Um, yeah..."

Noticing no other troops boarding the Cygnus spaceworks shuttle he asks, "Sgt. Solvona, there's only 6 of us.  The Strikebreaker needs 9 troopers to operate at peak capacity and can carry 40 troops.  Shouldn't there be a lot more troopers on this mission?"

Garryll I'm going to have to ask you to either postpone your post or edit it in some manner. You can't simply skip an entire process and expect everybody to just roll with it. Just because not everybody is as active as you are does not mean you can run the time line based on when you'd like to post. I know it's annoying, as I've had to sit around for days at a time before, but it's a necessary evil. Tanus, Orobos, nor myself have had a chance to post and you all basically skipped 6 hours. Now that we get into it this goes as a warning towards you too Tank. What if Tan or I had needed to make a post before we left? Ect. ect.

"Our squad will be supplemented by troops from the local militia." Tanus explained, "as for who we'll be transporting will be the delagate, their staff & security detail."

"Thank you, Sgt.  Unusual, but it does make sense."

"Any questions?" Tanus asked.  "None?  Alreight then; I'll let the transport crew know we're ready" with that Tasnus headed  to the cockpit.

As Tank was about to get deep into some Strikebreaker-sims when Garryl whipped out his handy Sabacc deck, and swiftly talked the whole squad into playing; Tanus got back in time to join the fun.

The first hand went to Alh who got a 22.  Alater got the second hand with a -23.  Tanus was tantalizingly close with a 21, but the randomizer struck faster than he could lock it in; Tank got 23!

Alater took the 4th hand (& nearly Gates' shirt).  Tank loans Garryll some credits to play the 5th round.  At one point or another, each stromtrooper came close to a 23 but the randomizer would cruelly snatch it away!

Then a small miracle happened!  Garryll blinked in shock; his 18 (a 3, 6 & 9) had changed to a 0, 2, 3!  "Sabacc!"  Garryll cried out as he proudly displayed his cards for all to see!  He won the hand pot & the Sabacc Pot!

The game over, Alater went to strip & adjust his rifles.  Tank went back to his datapad to review the Strikebreaker data & sims in earnest; their lives could depend on it...

Alh took a swig from his flask, then engaged Garryll in a friendly (no credits) game of Pazaak using the deck he got from an old mechanic in the hangar on Tadath...

That takes the first hour or so...

Tanus stood in the hangar bay, waiting for the squad to get here. As it turned out, they had a trooper added to their number last minute: Zolos. Tanus waited for him to show up before going over a last minute check of equipment and orders before introducing him.

“Gentlemen, I’d like you to meet Zolos. He is our newest trooper. Welcome to the family.”

Tanus gave him a slap on the back as he turned and made his way towards the shuttle. Alater caught up with him as Tanus made it to the ramp.

“You know, Tanus, its lucky that we got this mission. The boys were starting to get a bit restless.”

Tanus nodded. He didn’t say anything; he didn’t need to. He knew exactly how his men felt, because he was getting just as anxious. He took his seat towards the back as usual, and Alater sat next to him lit up a cigar. Tanus closed his eyes and started to doze. Of course, his squad quickly ruined this, as the malcontents quickly woke him up. Tanus got up and walked to where they were sitting; Zolos was abnormally quiet. I’m not surprised. It’s his first mission with a new squad. And this one is going to be a big one. He bent down low so that his head was level with everyone else’s.

“Listen, guys, its great that you’re hyped up over the mission and all, but so help me God if any of you wake me up, you’re getting shoved out the airlock. Understand?”

Tanus walked back to his seat and sat down; Alater started chuckling. Tanus merely shook his head and smiled a little as he drifted of into a dreamless sleep.

---Two Hours Later---

Tanus woke up to the sound of silence. He looked around and saw that the others had been either reading or playing cards. He looked over and saw that Alater was wide awake, merely glancing over every so often at the squad. Tanus got up again and walked toward where everyone was.

“Okay boys, I think its time you got acquainted with your equipment, so take out your gear and study it – hard. Take it apart and see how to repair it, stuff along those lines. I want us ready to move as soon as we hit planetside. As for me, I’m going to check our kit in the cargo hold.”

Tanus turned around and went back towards the cargo hold, which was a large interior lit by fluorescent lights. He went over to the two E-HWB cannons to make sure everything was there. He then moved to the Strikebreaker and ran a hand along one of the durasteel handles.

Good lord, this is going to be a long flight.

"I know what you mean Death Leader." Alater muttered, moving from behind Tanus to set a hand upon the Strikebreaker. The Empire's idea of 'putting down a riot' was obviously displayed in this vehicle.

Trevor jumped and turned around to see Alater, standing nearly beside him now. He shuddered a little. "Damn man, you scared me." Tanus said as he looked from his Assistant Squad leader to the vehicle.

"I'm sorry sir, it's my natural habit. Special Forces has helped as well." Alater commented, running a claw across one of the turrets of the vehicle. Equipped to fight a small war, the Strikebreaker was indeed an awe inspiring piece of machinery, especially for something so small. To think that such a thing would be needed in this mission gave the veteran shivers. He had seen major firefights before, and had been in them, sometimes with multiple squads to back him up. Here they had a grand total of five troopers, three of which were green.

"So is that where you disapeared to? I kept up with you after you left to join Eclipse, but you seemed to drop off the map for two or three months there at random." Tanus commented, eyeing the black Barabel.

Alater turned his head to stare at Tanus, and idly stroked one of the large scars the criss crossed the scales on his upper torso.

"Maybe I'll tell you about those some time, but it's something we're not supposed to speak of. As you can understand it's heavily classified and technically I was on vacation." Alater stopped tracing scars and turned to his squad leader.

"Fair enough. For now, what do you think of the squad?" Tanus asked.

"I think they need some uh, shall we say..." Alater's voice trailed off.

Garryll, until further notice your posting privileges are suspended pending a discussion with either Tanus or myself. You have been warned, instructed, helped, and everything we can do to help you understand that you must READ what other people post. You have consistently ignored this most basic rule and have continued to make posts that stand in blatant disregard for the posts of others. Until Tanus and myself are satisfied that you get this concept, you are not to post on the squad story. I am available from 7:30/8:00-9:30/Midnight Eastern, every night on mIRC. Don't think for a minute this is us being mean, or just me for that matter. Both SL and myself feel the same and have agreed on this. Get in contact with both of us. Sergeant Alater- BlackJack ASL.

Orobos sat hunched in a seat near the ramp of the shuttle. He preferred to be out of the thing and onto the ground quickly instead of waiting at the back of the squad. He looked around at his squad mates. Same squad, new name. He looked over at the man Tanus had introduced as Zolos. He seemed to be keeping to himself which was to be expected.

Orobos grabbed his bag off the floor where he had left and shoved it under his seat. It had the brand new shocktrooper armour in it which had been customized using the same template as his last set of armour. The only thing Orobos wasn't happy with about the mission was the though of going in with non-lethal weapons... well they did have the vehicle and it was better then their last mission. At least they were going in with something this time.

A large plume of smoke drifted his way. Orobos looked over to see Alater looking over at him. He watched as Alater breathed out another large cloud which floated over to swirl around Orobos's head for a while before it was sucked up and thrown out into space by the air recycling system.

"Point that thing somewhere else will you, I'd be better off out there," Orobos said jerking his thumb at the wall of the shuttle.

Alater just smiled wickedly in response he held the cigar between his fingers and blew smoke out of the corners of his mouth which drifted over to Alzhen. Alzhen just stared at Alater for a bit and then went back to talking to Tank. Orobos leaned back in the creaking chair his head tilting back and resting against then thick, metal, shuttle wall.

*****************

Orobos jerked awake and stared quickly around the passenger area. Everyone seemed to be engaged in a pazacc game gathered around a thin, spindly table all clutching cards. An unnatural amount of smoke hung around the tables.

"I go to sleep for a few minutes and you've all created your own atmosphere," Orobos said as half the group sat smoking, "Anyway make room I'm joining,"

"Fine but I'm on a roll, so don't pull out the moment you start losing credits," Tanus said looking down at his cards,

Orobos sat down at the table and waited for the next round to start before joining. He stared at the clock on the wall. there still seemed to be another hour at least before they arrived at their destination. Orobos sighed and returned his attention to the pazaac game.

Zolos was sitting in the front seats, looking around. Everybody was a stranger to him, which was exactly what he was expecting. At least Tanus helped him make the first step in making friends with the rest of the team. He knew it wouldn't be hard, but he wasn't sure when he would make his first friend. He was also a little bit nervous about his first mission, although he was feeling ready. He then heard Tanus saying to the rest of the squad to experiment with fixing their blasters.

Nice idea, I've got the feeling I'm gonna need this, Zolos thought

He experimented for about half an hour and then saw some squad members gathered round a table and playing cards. They were talking and smoking, and a cloud of smoke floated over their heads. They were playing with money, so the game looked more interesting. They seemed to have fun. Zolos stood up to see if it was interesting to watch, but the smoke made it difficult to see, so he sat down again. The smoke could be seen spreading around and then entering the air recycling system like a stream.

Thank goodness there is air recycling in here, Zolos thought. He didn't like cigarette smoke very much. First of all, it made him cough, and he also knew about the dangers of being a smoker.

There was still plenty of time until they would reach Balmorra, so  he comforted himself in his seat, looking at the cigarette smoke flowing over him.

I love my armor Tank thought as the smoke in the cabin thickened.  If it weren't for the filtration system standard in the armors' helmets this much smoke would have been an annoying distraction from the Strikebreaker-sims he was using to familiarize himself with the squad's vehicle (for this mission, at least).

Finishing another sim, he pulled up the tech specs again and mused I gotta get me one of these!

After a few minutes, Tank stood up and checked over his Imperial Munitions HardRide helmet interface system.  Addressing his SL, "Sergeant, with your permission I'd like to give the Strikebreaker a good once-over."

Tanus looked up from the hand he was playing, a bemused grin on his lips "Permission granted, Tank."

After Tank nodded and left, Alater chuckled at how by-the-book Tank was.  At least that one learned not to do anything stupid, thinking back to their not too long ago black op, and the close call the young trooper had told him about.

In the cargo hold of the shuttle Tank tried to forget the creaking seats & sleggish air-circulation of the passenger compartment, poor indicators of the transport's condition.

Looking at the metal beast, his concerns faded away...

Although the Strikebreaker wasn't the fastest Repulsorlift vehicle in the Imperial arsenal by a long shot it was one of the most solidly built and well-armed.  He handn't even heard of this vehicle before, and he thought he knew every war machine the Imperial Army had ever fielded.

I guess I still have much to learn Tank mused as got started on a systems diagnostic.  This is slightly more compact than the Floating Fortress; the LAAT/c Gunship could deploy this monster.

After an hour and a half, Tank has finished checking every part of the vehicle, every system.  Finally emerging from the vehicle, Tank sees Zolos, the newest member of the squad; apparently admiring the Strikebreaker.

"Hello, Zolos."

"Hello, you're Tank, right?"

"Yeah, that's me alright.  Are you a vehicle crewman too, or a combat engineer?"

Tanus and Alater had been in the cargo hold for some time, shooting back stories between the two of them and ideas, talking about the squad making sure the equipment was in order. A few hours had passed, and Tanus could feel it in his bones: they were getting close. He looked at his chrono; it read 16:00. One more hour till debark, better let the men know, Tanus thought. Tanus put down what he was doing and looked over at Alater.

“We’d better get ready. We only have one hour till landing and debark. Run whatever remaining diagnostics you have to, and then come back to the main hold and get ready. I have a feeling entry is going to be a little bit bumpy.”

Alater nodded and started tapping some more functions on his datapad as Tanus walked out the door and saw that the squad was being loud and boisterous; apparently the lack of the squad leader had meant going on a verbal field trip. Tanus walked up to them and nodded to them all.

“Well boys, in another hour we’ll be planet side. Do whatever remaining gear you have to, because we won’t have a lot of time on planet to do that. Just letting you know.”

Tanus walked back to his seat and started checking his weapons and armor. He hadn’t put it on yet, and figured now was as good a time as any. He took it to an isolated part of the shuttle and started attaching armor pieces. When he finished he went back to his seat and put his helmet on the one next to him, facing the main viewport out. Alater walked back in at this point and took a seat, taking a look at his weapons. Tanus didn’t look up to really get a look.

“So, how did everything check out? Is all the kit accounted for, or will we be needing new toys come planet-side?”

Alater shook his; he was getting g into the warrior spirit now, and there wasn’t anything that was going to bring him out of it.

“No, we’ll be fine,” he said with a hiss. “All we have to do is make sure none of it gets burned out. But if it does, chances are they’ll have some cooling rods or power generators on hand. I mean, in all seriousness the shield generator should give it ample cover from whatever the rioters have.”

Tanus nodded; he wanted to be sure that none of his men, or anyone else, had to die on Balmorra. He had finished checking his E-11 when a message came over the comm system:

“We’ll be hitting the atmosphere of Balmorra in ten minutes. Secure all sliding gear for entry. Fasten safety harnesses, gentlemen.”

Tanus slid the extendable belt across his chest and waist, holding the E-11 firmly in his hands. His R-88 was strapped to the wall, and everything was in the cargo hold, help down by magnetic locks and lord knew what else. Tanus knew the kit would be fine; the question was: would he?

--- --- ---

The entry into Balmorra was a tad bit shaky. More than a few times, Tanus had been jerked around in his. He looked at the others to see how they were dealing with it: Alter was sitting cross-legged, eyes closed and arms crossed across his chest. The others seemed to be hanging on for dear life; Tanus guess that this was their first planet entry in a long time, perhaps ever. Tanus was just happy he wasn’t free falling this time. Once they cleared the turbulence, they still had about twenty more minutes before reaching the capital city starport. The rest of the city had been closed off, and because of martial law, no commercial transport, save food stores, could enter or leave the city. However, the military had special access and Blackjack was landing smack dab in the middle of one of the riots.

Tanus got a chance peer through one of the viewports. Balmorra’s capital was a sprawling metropolis, covered by skyscrapers and buildings as far as the eye could see. Military police speeders were cruising all around the city. Out of the corner of his eye, Tanus could see two Z-95 Headhunter starfighters coming to both the port and starboard sides of the shuttle. Tanus looked to Alater and didn’t speak, but Alater knew why he had looked at him: They meant business. The fighters guided down the shuttle towards the city where the Cygnus shuttle landed in one of the docking bays. Tanus felt the slight lurch forward as the hydraulics let out a hiss as the gangplank lowered. Tanus nodded to Alater, and Tanus got up and grabbed his helmet and rifles; Alater followed close behind. The squad was silent as they made their way off the shuttle. When they reached the ground, they were greeted by a small contingent of soldiers holding A280 assault rifles. Tanus looked them over carefully: they were wearing full riot gear and looked ready to blow anything that moved away. Out of the back, a rather tall human male came forward and saluted Tanus; Tanus saluted back.

“Sergeant Tanus Solvona I presume?”

Tanus nodded. “Yes sir, I am. This is Blackjack Squad. And you are?”

The man folded his hands behind his back. “I am Captain Borsa Ventura. I am the head officer of the military forces in the city currently. I’m glad you made it. Its become an absolute nightmare here.”

Tanus nodded; he knew what the man was dealing with.

“Tell me the situation, Captain. I know that we’re being sent off rather soon as it is. Do you mind telling us what is going?”

The captain cleared his throat. "Certainly Sergeant. About three standard hours ago a bomb went off in the city center, wounding sixty and killing 13. The populace has become totally involved in sending these delegates from your government off planet, in a body bag if needed. We just don’t have the manpower to deal with them any longer. I know that we’re supposed to be getting two additional brigades soon, bringing the total military forces to ten thousand troopers, along with armored divisions. However, at the moment we can’t protect the delegates and keep the populace in check without spreading ourselves too thin. What I’m asking is that you take over as body guards units for the delegates.”

Tanus nodded. “Not to worry, Captain. Those were our orders from the start. We will of course cooperate with your men, but will act outside of your jurisdiction; we have separate orders and directives than you do. Also, I’ll need to borrow four men to help pilot our vehicle into the riot. Everything will be taken care of by us.”

Borsa nodded and motioned for four of his men to step forward. “These are four of my best. They will take your orders without fail.”

Tanus nodded. “Excellent. Thank you Captain.” He saluted and the Captain did so as well before leaving. Then Tanus turned to his squad.

“Gentlemen, this is it. We’re being called in as support for a growing riot near the city center, about two kilometers from where the bomb went off that the Captain mentioned. We’re taking the Strikebreaker in as added cover for the delegates and to act as support for if things get out of hand. Start loading everything onto the Strikebreaker. Don’t leave anything behind. The shuttle will come back for us in about a week if these negotiations go as planned. Let’s move gentlemen.”

--- --- ---

It took about 45 minutes to load everything onto the Strikebreaker and to move out. Tanus was at the head of the vehicle, piloting it towards their rendezvous point. Everyone else had taken positions on one of the weapons mounts, with Alater manning the grenade launcher, two separate crates of grenades next to him: Tear gas and fragmentation. It took a few minutes to reach the riot from the hangar, but when they got there, Tanus’ eyes went wide: there were hundreds of thousands of people shouting and yelling against a wall of riot police and military police standing behind a barricade with the delegates moving behind them to an armored meeting area. Tanus moved the Strikebreaker low over the military police barricade, having the port side face out. He turned to Alter and nodded; Alter loaded a tear gas grenade into the weapon, but held his fire. Then Tanus turned to the rest of the squad.

“Blackjack squad, lock and load.”

Tanus heard the buzz of the blaster cannons charging up on the Strikebreaker’s outer frame. And then, somewhere in the crowd, the first bomb went off.

Alater turned as the bomb went off and screamed "Down!" to the rest of the men. Tanus and the four other experienced troopers dropped to the deck, and upon semi-instinct to orders the green troops hit the deck a second later. Shrapnel and a few stray shots from slug weapons dinged against the armored hull of the Strikebreaker. Tanus looked to Alater and nodded. Alater lept to his feet and began to fire tear gas followed by fragmentation grenades in a line across the crowd. The site was awesome to behold. Standing before thousands of angry, screaming, weapon bearing citizens faced down by nine men huddling in a vehicle. Alater sighed and spit out his cigar.

"Alhzen, Garryll, man the blasters and shoot anybody armed or looking threatening that crosses the line." He said, flexing his left arm and ignoring the bullets bouncing off the reinforced hull of their vehicle. They stared at him for a moment, not sure what to make of their Sergeant without a cigar in his mouth, but recovered quickly.

"Yes sir!" They both barked, ducking in unison as a stream of shots rang out but still ran to their posts and immediately started up their weapons. The turbolaser fire into the crowd caused a sudden lapse in fire while the rioters attempted to find out why they were being killed and where it was coming from.

"Tank, I want you to take up that grenadier position. Keep using the tear gas and frags until you run out of ammo. Understand? Good." Not waiting for an answer, Alater turned to the newest member of the BlackJack squad.

"Zolos, come with me." Alater barked, and started to depart the vehicle, stopping only to pick up a huge package that would take three normal humans. Tanus turned from his spot near the front and looked at Alater departing with such a huge package.

"Where the hell are you going you crazy lizard?!" He exclaimed, seeing his assistant squad leader jump into an active hot spot.

"I'm gunna bring some fire to the party." He said, winking before running out into the field with a green trooper hauling ass behind him. Tanus muttered something along the lines of referring to Alater as a future purse before continuing to hell out orders to his men.

Alater's booted feet slammed against the ground as he lept from the vehicle and headed a few hundred feet from the vehicle. Once from behind the safety of the vehicle's reinforced hull they became an immediate target, but Alater didn't have time to worry about that, instead he had to be concerned for only Zolos, who was lagging a bit behind the well trained Special Forces' long strides. When he reached his destination he turned around to see Zolos had picked up the pace and was only a step or two behind. He motioned for him to stand back a bit and ripped the package off and set down the huge gun in a quick minute.

The huge E-Web slammed down to the ground, the generator being moved beside it. Zolos stared at Alater for a minute before he gave him a big toothy grin. With a swift motion he slammed the huge slide back on the weapon and a noisy electric humm signaled its booting into life.

"Don't just stand there Private, get that damn generator running and signal me when the shield is ready to go up." Alater ordered, turning back and pressind down on the pedals. The E-Web fired up and a massive stream of fire poured into the crowd.

"I do love putting down riots." Alater yelled.

Orobos stood crouched low in the Strikebreaker watching out of one of the windows as tear gas spread amongst the rioting crowd with the occassional burst of a frag landing near the more trigger happy members of the crowd. All weapons on the side of the hull which was facing the rioters were manned. Orobos looked around when he heard Tanus yell over the roar of the weapons.

"Where the hell are you going you crazy lizard?!"

Alatar had popped the rear entrance open and now he and Zolos with a large package between them jumped out. Orobos looked out the hatch as they ran around the other side of the hull away from the rioters.

"Will I close it back up?" Orobos shouted up to Tanus,

"Leave it," He said,"Make sure no one else gets back in,"

"No problem," Orobos said smiling at the prospect of punching in some of the rioters faces.

Orobos looked around out the door to where the two had gone but wasn't able to spot them. A moment later however he heard the unmistakable sound of heavy blaster fire. Orobos reached back and grabbed one of the Tazer Staves. He switched it on and was greeted with a humming sound and the ends of the stave started to glow a lazy looking blue. The first of the rioters seemed to figure out that the vehicle where all the grenades and blaster fire was coming from had it's rear hatch open and exposed. Unluckily for him though Orobos had figured out which setting was kill and which was stun and was ready for anyone coming near the door.

The man holding a small slugthrower pistol in one had and a piece of piping in the other looked up at the large stormtrooper. He raised the gun and let of a round which pinned uselessly off the armour as though it was just a stone. He then ran forward grabbing the doorframe of the rear hatch he started hauling himself up. Orobos shoved the stave forward catching the man right in the middle of his chest. The man screamed then fell back to the concrete below. The other rioters seeing this surged forward. Orobos also watched as the same man he'd just electrocuted got back up and joined them. There was a hole in his shirt and it revealed a worn out-dated body protector. Orobos set the Stave up high and started jabbing wildly into the crowd around the foot of the vehicle.

A lot of the rioters fell but there were more to take their places. The heavy fire still coming from Alaters position signaled he or Zolos wasn't finished yet. Orobos jabbed once again into the crowd but before he grabbed it back about half a dozen rioters grabbed on to the none electrified end and pulled. Orobos lost his grip and watched as one of them turned it around and pointed in back towards the vehicle and started jabbing it into hulls weapons which were sticking out.

"Sarge, we have a problem," Orobos yelled back while pulling out his E-11, setting it on full auto started blasting into the crowd,

"Alater and Zolos will be back, hold them," Tanus said holding the shuttle in the same poisition.

Orobos half closed the rear hatch to decrease the amount of space which they could get in. Then turning around from a second he ran, crouched over to TX who was still launching grenades into the crowd and still had a crate of them left.

"Can I borrow one of these?" Orobos said and then without waiting for a response took a tear gas and a frag grenade out of one of the near empty crates.

Orobos ran back to the rear of the vehicle, where one of the rioters were just after climbing in and was helping another up. Orobos kicked the man in the back sending him flying out of the door. Then chucking a tear gas grenade out the door after him he watched as the red smoke began to consume the group. He'd save the frag to clear the crowd when Alater and Zolos needed to get back in. Far off in the distance Orobos could see the rioters at the end even though they hadn't been hit by anything started to run seeing what was happening to the rioters nearer the police, military and stormtroopers.

"C'mon," Orobos shouted lashing out into the smoke and catching one of the men in the neck.

Zolos let his body fall to the ground as soon as a bomb would go off. Several troopers ducked after Alater shouted "Down!". Weapon shots were constantly hitting the Strikebreaker, making a loud noise all the time, so all the troopers needed to shout in order to communicate between them. He could see Alater firing tear gas and throwing fragmentation grenades. The situation seemed tough, nine trying to stop a truckload of angry people carrying guns. Zolos was trying to stop the citizens from coming too near when he heard Alater

"Zolos, come with me!", he shouted.

I guess it's party time, he thought.
Zolos followed Alater, who was carrying a big package. As they were departing from the vehicle, Tanus said to Alater

"Where the hell are you going you crazy lizard?!"

"I'm gonna bring some fire to the party", he replied.

The two went for some hundred feet away from their vehicle. It was obvious to Zolos that they had no protection against enemy fire, and he felt like shouting "Hey, I'm here, kill me!". Alater did not seem to worry about that. Zolos could see the rest of the squad protected heavily from the Strikebreaker. Alater took out an E-Web blaster and set it up, then said

"Don't just stand there Private, get that damn generator running and signal me when the shield is ready to go up"

Zolos quickly set the generator and replied "Ready sir, you may fire when ready". The generator put the E-Web to life and Alater started firing a huge amount of fire, just like the angry citizens before. Zolos could hear Alater saying "I do love putting down riots!". He took his E-11 and attempted to protect himself from enemy fire, while checking that the generator worked perfectly. Luckily, it didn't stop once, and Alater seemed to enjoy using it. The citizens were being scattered from the E-Web fire. Many of them were shot, and had fallen to the ground, with a variety of injuries from light to fatal.

Except the fact Zolos had to protect himself, he confirmed his thoughts

It's party time all right!

He believed he succeeded in his first mission, although he was a little bit pulled back. He preferred the cover behind Alater, since almost no shot could reach him there, so he changed from defensive to attack position and helped Alater take out the crowd.

"Are you all right?", Alater asked him

"Yes sir, I'm firing at them", Zolos replied.

"Keep it up, we'll need to break the riot", Alater said to him.

I hope the rest of the team is ok, Zolos thought.

In about ten minutes the tide had turned.  The Stormtroopers unleashing their own brand of chaos on the rioters with their Strikebreaker & one E-HWB cannon; those who could run were.  The crowd was clearing faster than the red gas clouds.

Seeing the others who dared to challenge the Stormies on the E-HWB were dead or seriously injured, the rest of the rioters near the vehicle thought better of it and ran for their lives!

Alater almost opened fire on them but discipline & training won out.  Waiting until the police and local militia had things under control (for the moment) Alater had Zolos help him repack the artillery.

As they returned to the Strikebreaker Orobos kicked a corpse out of their way.
"Enjoying the party, Sergeant?"

Alater merely smiles wide, satisfied, as he stows the E-HWB.  He lights a fresh cigar in victory as the hatch closes.  Tanus steers the Strikebreaker toward the fortified building holding the delegates.

As Tanus navigates the Strikebreaker around Riot Police & EMTs, some MPs help clear the way to the building's garage.  "Secure the vehicle & Move out!" Sgt. Solvona orders.  "Our first priority is to get the delegates to the Strikebreaker."

As Tank locks up the Strikebreaker Lance Corporal Alhzen sees a girl on the ground; apparently trample by fleeing rioters.  His instincts kick in and he runs to the girl as he automatically grabs a medkit from his belt...

"Alhzen!  Get back here, you fool!"

"I got him, Sergeant!" Tank says as he heads after Alh, his R-88 Suppressor riot rifle at the ready.  As Alh starts checking the little girl's injuries Tank spots a shooter on the next building taking aim with a slugthorwer rifle; Tank gives the shooter a nap with a blast from the R-88 Suppressor rifle.

"Alh, we have to return to the Squad" Tank tells his friend; Alhzen is focused on stabilizing her wounds.

"TOK" a cardboard tube bounces hamlessly off Tank's urban camo Shocktrooper armor.  "What the..." Tank turns to see a small group of teenagers charging him!

He drops two with the Suppressor rifle then switches to the Merr-Sonn taser stave.  The first kid lunges at him with a cardboard tube and Tank disarms him with a swift & firm whack of the taser to the boy's arm.

The next kid swings his cardboard tube like a sword and Tank stikes it with his taser; the tube breaks and the rocks taped inside scatter in all directions!  Doesn't even scratch the shockguard coating Tank notes as many stones patter harmlessly of his armor as he backhands the boy in the face with plasteel-armored-fist.

As the boy slumps to the ground, the next assailant breaks his cardboard tube (stuffed full of sticks) on Tank's helmeted head!  What the hell's possessing these kids?!?.  Tank taps his attacker on the solar plexus with the stun baton once; the kid goes down.

Alhzen picks up his patient & double times it back to the garage.  As Tank follows him a lone thug breaks through the riot police's barricade with a Tire Iron!  He charges Tank only to get clotheslined by the taser!  The unconscious man hit the pavement & Tank grabs the tire iron.  Could use this later he thinks as he heads into the garage; Orobos hits the switch, closing the blast doors.

"Don't do that again, Lance Corporal Alhzen!" Tanus barks out.  "We don't need heroes!  We need to protect the delegates!  Squad, move out!"  With that he leads the squad deeper into the building to meet up with the delegates.  With all the hovering holocams we saw out there, this will likely be all over the local media by tomorrow; I hope it'll be a good thing... Tanus ponders briefly before putting full focus on his suroundings...

"That was bizarre, Tank!  Did those kids think they were Jedi or something?" Orobos asks.

"Beats me, Senior Sergeant Orobos." Tank shrugs, "Maybe they were on stims or something."

"Cut the chatter, Tank.  Everyone, stay alert!"  Now it's time to meet the delegates...

Tanus could still hear the shouting and screaming from the rioters outside. It was deafening. Even through the blast doors, Tanus had to turn on the sound dampener in his helmet. It had now been brought down to a low rumble, but Tanus could still feel the bunker vibrating under the angry mob’s trampling. Whatever the explosion was, it had certainly started what it intended to, and Blackjack was smack in the middle, just as Intel said they would be. Tanus looked to see as technicians and some of Blackjack squad was huddling around the Strikebreaker, making sure all of the dings and scratches were buffed out and banged out. Tanus took off his looked around and saw some military personnel standing off to the side. He went over and put his weapon at his side.

“Okay, where are the delegates? We need to get them out of here ASAP. I can’t risk their lives here any longer.”

The man to the right shook his head.

“Its no good, Sergeant. The meetings are still in place, and as we speak the delegates are meeting with the military officials of this planet to negotiate. And quite frankly, I don’t know how much longer they’ll be in here.”

Tanus swore under his breath as he walked back over to the squad. He still had his weapon in his hands.

“Listen men. We’re going to be here for a while, as the delegates are still meeting. Just sit tight and get ready to-.”

Before Tanus could finish the sentence, another explosion broke out, shaking the complex at its very foundations. Tanus lost his footing and stumbled a little bit to the left; Alater caught him and propped him up. Tanus looked around: he could see lights flickering and technicians and members of his own squad getting up off the ground. Tanus then went to the Strikebreaker and hopped inside. Alater looked at him in disbelief.

“Tanus, what the hell are you doing? The weapons are supposed to stay INSIDE…”

Tanus then shoved a case of grenades in his hands, along his the grenade launcher.

“Shut up and get moving. We’re going outside to check the damage. Based on how loud that explosion was, I’m going guess pretty bad. At this point they’ll be screaming for blood, and we need to make sure no more is spilt today.”

Tanus got up and looked to the squad.

“Men, grab all of our kit out of the Strikebreaker! We’re setting up a roadblock to give the MPs support here, because it sounds like they’ve got their hands full. I’m assigning two teams of two to each of the E-WHBs and Alater will have the grenade launcher. I’ll be up front with the forward line to help however I can. Just make sure you don’t kill me in the crossfire. Move out!”

Tanus opened one of the hatches leading outside, and all he saw was chaos. Fires were raging everywhere, and bodies lay in the streets. He could hear screaming and shouting from down the main causeway. He waved the squad forward. They sprinted down the stares, Tanus leading the way with his E-11. He extended the stock and aimed the muzzle from out beneath a stone bridge to make sure the squad was covered as the set up. What Tanus saw next stunned him: The MPs and riot police were in a deadlock with the rioters, a wall of flesh and plasteel pushing against a wall of violence and adrenaline. Tanus yelled over the crowd:

“Zolos and Orobos, you take the right pedestal. Have one of you maintain the power generator. Garryl and TX, you take the left; same orders. Alater, lay down suppressing fire in the crowd’s center. Use tear gas for now. If they manage to break the line, fall back and start using frags. I’ll be up there with them. If I get stuck in there, Alater is in command of you till I get back. Blackjacks, fan out!”

The squad hurried off to their positions. Tanus looked back to watch as Alater fired the first grenade into the crowd. It sailed into the air and landed in the hub of the crowd, dispersing a vile wave of tear gas and sending the rioters in random directions. Tanus ran forward, shouldering his E-11 and taking out his taser stave. He ignited it, hearing the low bzzz as it glowed a cool blue-purple. He ran into the back of the MP wall, pushing forward with all his might. He someone managed to get to the front of the wall. He was immediately slugged in the face by an angry rioter. Tanus responded with a swift sweep of the taser stave, bringing him down in a heap. The falling man gave Tanus an opening, and he took it.

Tanus thrust himself into the crowd, pushing the rioters back with prods from his stave as if he were a matador. Soon the gap was wide enough that the rest of the MPs pushed in and forced the crowd to split in two. Tanus stood there as many people were arrested and savagely beaten. He then shook his head and closed his eyes, even though no one could see it. They don’t pay me enough. I should ask Doc about a raise when I get back, Tanus mused. As he came back to reality, Tanus heard the popping of automatic weapons fire coming from the left. He looked over and several of the rioters had armed themselves with blasters and slugthrowers. Tanus took out his R-88 and started to lay down some fire, bringing several of them down, and pushing some of the back. Tanus could see that Garryll and TX had used the E-WHB’s cannon to push them back, and Alater finished it off with some well-placed grenade fire. Tanus could see Zolos and Orobos blasting at some rioters themselves.

When Tanus got back up to the pedestal, a man in a military uniform came running up him.

“Sir, the delegates have finished the meeting. They are ready to be transported now.”

Tanus snorted in derisive anger. “Well, I’m so happy we fit into their schedule. Men, pack it up and let’s move.”

The squad started bringing everything inside; Tanus knew that this was going to be a long day.

Reserving a spot here, please be patient and let me post. I'm sorry this isn't up yet and will be up tonight, most likely in two hours. The reason I haven't taken this down is Tan and I have a specific way these needs to go. Sorry about the delay guys.

Alater walked into the building, flanking Tanus as they headed to meet the delegates. The rest of the squad waited in the main lobby while the pair, escorted by four MP, headed towards the delegates. They were met halfway by several important looking men that seemed to be completely unaware of the situation outside the building. They looked at the huge barabel first, and then noticed Tanus standing infront of him. One of the delegates offered a hand.

"I don't mean to sound rude," the older man said, shaking Tanus' hand, "but this doesn't seem like much of a protection force." The delegate, having expressed his concerns added a quick smile and a non-threatening posture to complete the picture. Alater didn't like it.

Tanus chuckled a bit. "I am Tanus, this is my Assistant Squad Leader Alater, and the rest of the squad is downstairs. If you gentlemen would please follow me we would like to get you out of here as soon as possible." Tanus said, nearly grabbing one of the men by the arm and dragging them.

"Well, I don't see what the rush is..." His voice trailed down as everybody in the room hit the deck. The ground shook and small debris fell from the ceiling. A bomb had just exploded not half a kilometer away. Alater hissed and mumbled something in Barabese cursing the fools that had put his squad in such a compromising position.

"We need to move." Tanus said, and then he did grab the arm of a delegate and rush them downstairs. Alater took place behind them and shepherded the rest forward towards the main entrance. There the rest of the squad waited, lined up as if somebody was going to try and breach the doors. Tanus looked around and began to give orders before a news cast started, the title silencing all in the room.

Tank's comlink burst with static "Tank!  This is Tanus!  Get the Strikebreaker turned around & ready for a fast exit!"

"Yes Sergeant!  I'm on it!"

Changing channels with his tongue "Orobos, you and the keep the our flanks clear!  I've got the delegates; be ready to move out!"

With that Orobos & Gates used their respective E-HWBs to drive back the crowd some more as Alhzen & Zolos got ready to strip down the cannons.

As the building shook from another distant explosion and dust rained down, Orobos & Gates switched to their E-11/F rifles to provide cover as Alhzen & Zolos shut down & disassembled the cannons.

The Strikebreaker rumbled to life, rising off the duracrete, dust falling off.  The four local troops continued providing cover fire as the quartet of Stormtroopers loaded the cannons on the Strikebreaker.

As some rioters tried getting closer the MPs started tossing stun & tear gas grenades with abandon!

SSGT Orobos orders the four local soldiers aboard; as soon as the last man is on deck Tank rotates the vehicle in place.

As Tanus reaches the garage Tank is lining up the open hatch with the hallway; ignoring the delegates' complaints Tanus & Alater practically thro their charges into the Strikebreaker, then dash in themslves!

Alater secures the hatch as Tanus runs to the front, taking control from Tank; the rest of BlackJack are already manning their gunnery stations.

"Hang on!" is the only warning Tanus gives as he sends the vehicle into chaos at full speed!  Changing comm-frequencies again, "Captain Ventura?  Sgt Solvona here, we need a secure location!  Now, damnit!"

"We location Noble-Delta ready for you!  Here's the coordinates now!"  With the Tanus & Tank's HUDs turned the datastream into topographical & route data, superimposed on visuals of the vehicle's exterior; carnage and chaos in all directions.

Tanus made a hard right, following the course he was given.  Some of the bolder (or less sane) rioters try running in front of the Strikebreaker, only to bounce off the Stun barricade like ragdolls to land unconscious; more than likely minor injuries at least.

Tank increases power to the repulsorlifts, gaining some altitude; at ten meters Tanus lets him level out, clear or rioters and their makeshift barricades.

Things seem to go smoothly for a bit; but it doesn't last!  A repulsorlift Fuel Truck comes onto their route at high speed, aiming for a head-on collision!  The delegates scream in terror as Tanus & Tank work like madmen to make the Strikebreaker rise faster!

Not fast enough as the two titanic vehicles collide in mid-air!  The Fuel Truck explodes, swiftly blossoming into a fireball that spans the space between buildings!  Windows shatter on all the surrounding buildins.  Moments later the Strikebreaker soars clear of the inferno; blackened but undamaged!

Keeping at an altitude of 30 meters, they avoid further catastrophe and reach the base Noble-Delta and set down inside the walled compound...

"Zolos, get ready, the squad is coming with the delegates. Pack the weapon; we're going to get into the Strikebreaker as quickly as possible."
Zolos turned off the cannon and disassembled it while Orobos covered him and the other soldiers who were coming. He packed the cannon into the Strikebreaker. The MPs were covering them, throwing tear gas and stun grenades whenever a rioter came dangerously near them.

"Let's get in, quickly", Orobos shouted to Zolos

Zolos rushed into the Strikebreaker, following Orobos. When the rest of the team, as well as the local soldiers, Tanus said

"Hang on!"

Zolos held tightly as the vehicle dashed to top speed. He could feel the force pushing him back. It was strong, and he thought he would hit the wall and end up flat. But luckily, he didn't. The vehicle then gained height and was en route to their next destination. All seemed okay for Zolos, when suddenly a fuel truck headed towards them at high speed.

Yikes!

Zolos was sure this was the end. The truck exploded, but the Strikebreaker wasn't damaged.

This thing's tough for sure! Zolos thought as he gasped. If that didn't break anything, what else do we have to worry about?

After some time, they reached their next stop. The Strikebreaker landed smoothly on the ground. Zolos could still not understand why there wasn't a scratch from the fuel truck collision.

Orobos sat in the strikebreaker as it sped off leaving the mob behind them. The disgruntled delegates were on board, straightening out their robes and grumbling at the way they'd been treated.

"I don't think that was necessary," one of the delegates said glaring at Tanus who had thrown him into the vehicle.

"Trust me," Tanus said looking out one of the windows at the rioters,"It was necessary."

"Hmph, easy for you to say," another one of the delegates said cradling a sprained wrist,

"You would've gotten a lot worse then a sprained wrist if those guys had got you," Orobos said to the man who stared at him,

"Lucky we got there when we did or that building would've been in ruins," Alater hissed,

"What do those people want anyway," one of the delegates said. He looked like the leader of them judging by how elaborately decorated his robe was compared to the others.

"They want you off their planet Alive or Dead. They seem to prefer the latter," Tanus replied bluntly still staring out the window of the strikebreaker.

"What the hell," Orobos heard someone shout before the vehicle was thrown wildly forward by an explosion but steadied itself straight away.

"What was that?" Orobos asked staring around,

"Oil truck," Zolos said looking out the back window.

The vehicle began its descent towards a large square which was completely empty apart from a squad or two of around two dozen of the local police. The vehicle set down and hovered about a foot off the ground. Orobos moved forward and opened up the rear hatch. Alater jumped out first, looked around and then motioned for everyone to follow. Orobos jumped out next and Zolos followed. Next the delegates came out and wandered over towards the local police who created a protective semi-cricle around them facing away from the strikebreaker. A tall broad shouldered man broke away from the group and moved towards Tanus his hand held out.

"Lieutenant Robert Garner," he introduced himself as,

"Gunnery Sergeant Tanus Solvona," Tanus replied grasping the mans hand and they shook.

"I was sent to help you and your squad to escort the delegates," the man said looking over Tanus's shoulder at the stormtroopers who were standing around the strikebreaker weapons raised ready for any threat,

"Ok," Tanus said nodding," Follow us and stick close,"

They moved across the square the delegates struggling to keep up encouraged to move faster by Alaters and Orobos's Large forms moving behind them. They heard them before they saw them. They could hear the rioters screaming and yelling. The air was punctuated with the sound of windows being smashed.

"Lets quicken the pace," Tanus said and started into a light run.

Tanus was at the head of the pack, his R-88 shouldered and his E-11 out, ready for whatever came his way. The breaking glass didn’t matter to him anymore; he just wanted to get the delegates inside the compound and save from the psychos around them. Alater and Orobos had taken up the rear, backpedaling to keep up with everyone. Harper and his men and taken up other flanking and forward positions, Harper himself running with Tanus and the rest of Blackjack. Soon they came to a square, rubble and debris around them, papers crumpled up and blowing down the street. Tanus didn’t like the look of it.

“Fan out guys. Alater, you take some of the squad and do some recon and make sure nothing is coming to get us. Harper, I need you men to stay with me and the delegates and whoever I pull away from the rest of the group.”

Tanus motioned for Orobos to stand next to him and gave the order: “Move out.”

The Blackjacks fanned outward, their E-11s probing every open crevice they could find. Tanus had knelt down in front of a fountain, taking a look at the delegate’s sprained wrist. He sighed as he put it back at his side and rubbing out the kinks, and got back up to look around, the stock of his E-11 resting against his shoulder. There were intermittent sounds of glass breaking and shouting, but nothing that sounded like it would be close to them. As the others came back, a soft pop emanated from the right. Tanus turned around, Orobos behind him, both weapons trained forward. Turns out that they had been followed.

“Damnit, we can’t seem to catch a break today. Gentlemen, protect the delegates. Orobos, stay here with me and we’ll take care of them. We’ll catch up with you guys later. Alater, you’re in charge until I get up there with you guys.”

Alater nodded and turned around, the delegates in the center of the circle, with most of Harper’s men going with the group. However, it turned out Harper had told some of his men to stay with Tanus; he felt relieved slightly when they took up firing positions. Tanus took up positions behind the fountain, while Orobos took up a building’s forward window. All weapons were trained forward now, in unison of black death. Tanus wasn’t even concerned with using his R-88 anymore; at this point, taking no prisoners was easier than chancing more people dying, especially the delegates or his men. Tanus heard some shouting and some soft pops of blaster and projectile fire. The rioters were close, and Tanus just hoped that what they were doing was putting enough distance between them and Alater.

The rioters came out between two buildings; there were about 15 in number and looked ready to kill anything that moved. Tanus kind of smiled though; this was what Blackjack was designed for. Tanus raised his rifle and gazed down the scope, flipping the switch on his rifle to pump fire and getting a victim’s head in his sight. He pulled on the trigger, and a red blaster bolt sailed out of the muzzle and right through his target’s skull. The blast wasn’t hidden and immediately all eyes turned to Tanus. But Tanus didn’t even flinch. Out of Orobos’ position, a flurry of bolts shot out from the window, hitting another one of the rioters. Now Harper’s men got the idea, and then more fire erupted from Tanus’ side of the street. The remaining rioters ducked and ran for cover. A few of them took potshots at Tanus and his group, most of them sailing safely over them. A few shots grazed Tanus’ armor, but some came dangerously close to being a fatal shot. Tanus took his shots carefully and precisely; he had to make every one count. A few he took just to scare the rioters, which Tanus had to admit was quite fun. Others he took deliberately, dropping two more rioters within ten seconds of each other.

Within five minutes, the score had evened out, and no losses were incurred on Tanus’ side of the street. The military trained sextet had mostly obliterated the rioters, and now it was only a question of when the others would come out. Tanus turned on his infrared imaging and looked around. They had hidden themselves in buildings all around the area. But Tanus wasn’t worried that much. The projectile weapons they had bounced harmless off of his armor, and the bolts were easy enough to sidestep and then give them a full reprisal. The rioters were trading some pot shots with Tanus and his men, and most were missing as always. Some managed to hit, but more often than not, rock splinters filled the air.

Tanus advanced forward about 3 meters and crouched behind a stone pedestal. He raised his rifles and looked around. He moved to the left as a blaster bolt whizzed past his head. He quickly shifted and spotted his attacker. He raised his rifles and pulled the trigger, planting blaster bolts in his chest. He dropped to the ground dead; Tanus heard the clatter of his rifle hitting the floor. Tanus walked forward, flanked by one of Harper’s men, both of their rifles raised. Tanus walked in the first building to his left, rolling up against the wall. He looked around and saw no one. He keyed in his comm link to the others.

“All of you take a building. If you find anyone with a gun and no armor, slot them.”

Tanus turned to Harper’s soldier and nodded; he saluted and turned out of the building, heading for another one. Tanus turned back and raised his rifle again and walked forward, carefully and quietly. His infrared picked a movement up on the second floor. He made his way for stairs and pushed his back against the wall. Tanus turned his head and looked up the stairwell; he didn’t see anyone. As he turned and went for the stairs, red blaster bolts rained down from the top of the flight. Tanus swore as he took cover behind the wall again. He waited before turning again and looking up. He saw no one and ran up the stairs. He threw his body behind a dresser as fire erupted from the east wall.

Tanus looked around the side of dresser to see the man that was firing at him. Tanus grimaced as he got ready for his move. He got a ready crouch and waited for his moment. And then the fire ceased for a split second, and Tanus got up and leveled his weapon at the man and opened fire. A full auto burst came out of the muzzle, lighting the man’s body with sparks. When it was over, he commed everyone again.

“Okay, I’m clear on this end. When you finish up, meet in the street and we’ll get back together with the others.”

Tanus made his way for the street and didn’t have to wait long for the others. When they were all present, Tanus turned on his heels and ran towards Alater’s signal.

Tanus and Orobos ran off, a few of the local MPs in their wake. Gates followed closely to ASL Alater.

Alater motioned for a circle around the delegates, and the stormtroopers and local military forces complied. Gates was at the 3 O'clock position; Alater was on point at 12, Alhzen was at the 9 point, and Tank and Zolos were at about 7 and 5 respectively. This gave the stormtroopers a good, solid position, not blinded by the MPs and with a good view in all directions.

The local men filled in the gaps. Then the group moved carefully forward. Gates kept his R-88 at shoulder level, and his E-11 loose in his holster, ready to be drawn if necessary.

The group got a few hundred feet when Gates heard distant blaster fire. "Sarge must be given' 'em hell!" he thought with a small portion of his mind.

The rest of his awareness was on sweeping every window, door or building with his rifle and doing a quick scan with his thermals to check if there was anything alive inside.

Eventually, Sergeant Alater raised his hand, open palm- no contacts, but halt. The stormtroopers stopped instantly, the local military an instant back, and one of the delegates walked straight into the large sergeant's back. Gates sniggered. He hated politicians and diplomats.

The sergeant looked around. "We'll have to hold here, wait for Sergeant Solvona and the rest of the MPs," he ordered. "In here." he led the delegates into a sturdy-looking building that looked to be a police station. The delegates crowded in, and most of the MPs followed. Gates hesitated. "Sarge, permission to take a position in the building across the way. Give us some cover and a spotter position?"

The sergeant considered the request a second- "Go. Take someone with you."

The younger non-com saluted, then tapped Alhzen on the shoulder, gesturing the universal 'follow me.'

The two men ran across the street. Gates kicked down the door of a  two level shop, then ran upstairs. He and Alhzen crouched at windows, looking down either way of the street, and waited for their leader to appear.

Orobos kicked down the metallic door of a pawn shop. The clatter of the door hitting the ground seemed to have alerted someone in the next room as some random blaster fire came through the walls. Orobos crouched as low as he could expecting the attacker to be aiming around chest height. He ran into the room. There was a man standing there with a large cumbersome blaster rifle. He spun around and aimed at the him. Orobos kicked at a large wooden chair against the wall sending it flying towards the man and then followed up with a flurry of shots. The man hit the ground and Lay there motionless.

Orobos moved quickly over to one of the smashed out windows the glass littering the street. Taking up a firing position he stared out the window in the direction in which the noise of the rioters was coming from. A large group came around the corner alert and ready for action. A flurry of shots came from Tanus's position and Orobos watched as one of the rioters fell to the ground. Following suit Orobos fired dropping another one as the rioters opened fire on Tanus's position.

The rest of the local police that that were accompanying them opened fire and the rioters ran for cover. Orobos caught one of the fleeing rioters around the legs sending him flying forwards. The rest of the rioters after finding something to hide behind started to return fire.

The fire-fight continued on for a few minutes each side exchanging fire. Orobos heard a yell come from across the street and he looked over as one of the local officers fell a large burn mark through his armour. His rifle still clutched in his hands the man was still alive as he rolled over. His fellow Officers reached out pulling the man into cover. One of their number started to attend to the mans wounds.

The fire fight continued the rioters growing smaller and smaller in number. Their accuracy lessened as the group, which was growing smaller quickly, became more desperate. They started to run. Some of the police began to pursue but Tanus stopped them reminding them they had to protect the delegates and meet up with Alater and his group again.

Orobos heard Tanus give the order to get a building and clear it. He moved out and further up the street. He reached a door which was partially open and light spilled out onto the street flickering. Someone had lit a fire inside. Orobos moved in his E-11 raised. Whoever had been in the room was gone. Orobos searched the rest of the building but didn't find anyone. He moved back out into the street.

"Droid shop on this street cleared," Orobos said over the com.

Tank tried the door of a shop titles 'Wilderness Outfitters" and was surprised as the unlocked door slid open.  With his R-88 at the ready he cautiously entered the shop.  Hearing voices not from the helmet-comlink, he turned a corner to find a half-dozen beings making Grenades from Chemical Supplies and IEDs from Blaster packs!

Not giving the group a chance to try anything he hit the lot of them with a blast from the Suppressor Rifle!  As his enemies collapsed, Tank noticed the Rodian was holding a blaster, and falling toward the pile of IEDs...

"Oh, Sith!"
****
"BOOM!!!!" the building exploded into a gigantic fireball that shook the street and shattered every windoe within about fifty metres of the disintegrating structure!  A blazing, fiery projectile shot from the Outfitters' storefront and into the bookstore Alhzen was clearing...

****
As a dissident was sneaking up behind the Stormtrooper a massive blast rang out but before the would-be killer could turn his head the bookshelf on his right smashed him into the bookshelf on his left;  Alhzen spun around to assess the mess.

Tank found some difficulty extracting himself from whatever he crashed into; for that matter he didn't think he was alive anymore.  Then the comlink in his helmet hissed and buzzed...

"Tank?  Are you okay?!?  Let's get you out of that mess."

Tank recognized Alh's voice and answered "Yeah; I'm okay!"  Alh helped his friend & squadmate out of the ruined bookshelves & red paste, Tank's armor was still hot & smouldering, and was heavy with carbon scoring.

"Thanks, Alh!  I'm fine; just need to walk it off" he lied.  The two Stormtroopers cleard what was left of the bookstore and got back on the street.
Orobos was well ahead of them; running to catch up Tank took the convenience store as Alh took the giftshop/infocentre...

OOC:
Just a reminder, please let at least one of these guys post, if not both. None of you are familiar with their characters and should give them a chance to introduce themselves and what not.

Alater looked down the street to his left and caught site of Tanus and Orobos running towards them. Tanus was making a double time down the middle of the street with the rest of the local militia, and Orobos was clearing buildings of interest along the way. Both of them seemed completely oblivious to the force of nearly sixty men barreling down on them from an opposing alley. Alater watched, and homed that the Comm call he had just gotten was indeed accurate. Otherwise his friend and Squad Leader were about to be fried.

"What are we waiting for?" A delegate asked, the one that had previously ran straight into the sergeant's back. Alater just hissed for him to be silent and adjusted his weapon on his shoulder. They were past the alley now, and had spotted the threat. Unfortunately the threat had spotted them and the mob was rounding the corner, Orobos and Tanus sprinting a good hundred meters in full gear in mere seconds to slide in next to Alater.

"What's the sit," Was all Tanus got out before his chest hit the ground and the wind flew from his lungs. Alater closed his fist and pumped once, motioning to the ground.

"Down!" He yelled for the sake of those that didn't understand what he was commaBnding. Alater himself dropped down to the dusty street and tried to get a fix on the sky, but just couldn't. The roar was approaching and the mob had obviously just seen their own death.

An entire payload of missiles exploded into the group. Followed up were blasts from the power turrets of the Dx-9. The specifically designed Stormtrooper transport roared in from low orbit, unleashing hell on the new retreating and more manageable sized mob. Both hatches were open as the ship descended the last few meters on its repulsorlift. A squad of snipers from the local police force was positioned facing the few stragglers of the retreating mob. Their leader hopped out and shook hands with Tanus.

"Good afternoon sir, I understand you've got some men for us." The man said, giving the squad leader a firm handshake. Tanus returned it in earnest.

"I'm very glad you showed up when you did. We've got the delegates and your men, all here in one piece, save a twisted ankle from a rather large push from my assistant squad leader." Tanus said, motioning more or less towards Alater and the afore mentioned delegate. Alater simply smiled a toothy grin and adjusted his rifle. Something smelled weird here.

The delegates and the militia forces of the local city all filed onto the vehicle. Alater had just started to explain how they were going to have to meet up with the group later because the area was too hot, when two people lept from the vehicle and headed for the squad. Both Urakai and Giovanni had smiles on their faces.

“Sorry we couldn’t get here earlier, there were a few rogue ships circling one of the local police stations.” Urakai said, walking up to the squad.

“You know how boring flight trips get,” Giovanni stated, examining his new battle dirtied squad, “hope we didn’t miss the fun.”

“Far from it.” Alater stated with a grin.

Tanus walked up to his new squad members, “Nice to see you again Urakai, and you too Gio. It’s been a while.”

Urakai and Gio looked up at the transport and gave a wave as its engines slowly roared back to life. Then it lifted itself into the air, and with a quick thrust, was off again. Before much more could be said, an explosion shook the area for several seconds as orange flames erupted behind the view of several buildings.

“We need to move, more time for chit-chat later.” Tanus ordered as Gio and Urakai securely placed their helmets on and raised their rifles.

Back in the field. Just hope I can keep my feet on the ground this time Urakai thought to himself.

“Orobos, Zolo, your with me. We’ll head back down toward the station and see if we can get our hands onto another armoured vehicle. Alater will take the rest of you toward the roadblock up ahead and see if you can help them out. That explosion was right next to it and is dangerously close to the prisons.” Tanus instructed.

After Tanus had reassured everyone understood, he, Orobos and Zolo began moving down the street. Alater then ordered everyone to lock and load.

“Good to see you again, Garryll.” Urakai said as they moved out.

“Yeah you too Urak, and glad your with us, Gio.” He replied with smile before placing his helmet back on his head.

“Alright guys, let’s move out.” Alater ordered.

Urakai kept with the squad at a swift pace. He was covering their left flank while Gio was on their right. The squad slowly advanced down the street, separated by a few meters each. Suddenly, Urakai heard light treads right behind him. With a quick move, Urakai spun around, drawing his vibro sword and slashing at the figure, leaving a deep but clean gash in his ribs.

A hooded teen dropped the knife in his hand and dropped to the ground, revealing a whole mob as Urakai yelled, “They’re here!”

Quickly pulling his sword up, he deflected a strong stroke of a metal pole by a mobster. This gave his squad enough time to turn around and left a barrage of fire rip through him and three others. Suddenly an array of fire came from them as they rushed toward the squad, throwing bomb made from alcohol right in front of them.

Urakai quickly retreated, replacing his sword and bringing his rifle up to aim. Blasts were flying everywhere as he suddenly realised they were pouring out from an alleyway where more rioters were rushing out of. Giovanni quickly did a barrel roll and knocked down one with a hard blow, then letting more bolts rip from the his gun’s barrel.

A sniper rifle was in clear view, a few stories up in the building across the street, smashing a window and peaking out.

“Take out the sniper!” Alater yelled, reloading a cartridge into his rifle.

Quickly, Urakai caught a bottle filled with alcohol and a burning piece of cloth. With a hard throw, he sent it flying upwards, landing inside the window.

That matter dealth with, Urakai though as flames flew with the window, but if these rioters keep coming, we’ll be overrun by sheer numbers.

A dagger suddenly swept through the air and stuck itself into the wall inches from Garryll’s head.

“This is just getting nuts!” He shouted, emptying a round of fire into the croud.

“Quick, in here!” Alater shouted, as he opened the door of a large apartment building.

As the squad quickly rushed in, the mob followed, though never made it through the door as barrages of blasts came through the small hallway. Quickly, Urakai shut the door, hearing a small bottle just bounce off it. Gio quickly blasted the controls.

“That won’t hold them for more than 20 seconds.” Garryll said, moving through the building, looking for a way out.

“There must’ve been 50 of them! Is this what you guys have been putting up with all day?” Urakai asked, following the squad.

The hallway lead them to a small room with a public communications booth and a pair of stairs. The squad quickly went up 3 flights of stairs before coming to a pair of windows.

“These windows are showing the other street.” Giovanni stated, opening it.

“Alright, we better hurry.” Alater said, crawling out of the window and down the fire escape.

Urakai was the last one out, when suddenly a large blast was heard followed by several roars.
