The game of Sabaac was getting interesting to Hector, He had learned about how to play on Coruscant, and his skills in learning new games, and new things were amazing to say the least. Looking around he could see that the players around him wanted to play the game of Sabaac intently before they had arrived at there location. No one wanted to die, and no one wanted to have there leg blown off either. It was something to ease there minds before they had to use there weapons, and begin the real fighting.

What was on the planet was what intrigued Hector the most. Would they meet a horde of bounty hunters ready to turn them in at a moments notice, or be caught by the rebel alliance who hated them so much. Before the battles at Yavin, and Endor, Hector gained some knowledge about the existence of the empire itself, he liked the history of how it was created. The Emperor was settling in through politics, and Anakin had his future ahead of him.

And now that the empire was left by fighting off its enemies one by one so that it could have a peaceful resource to its fruitful beginning as the republic, and now was called the galactic empire. With this Hector had in mind he brought back his memories, and then focused back on the game of Sabaac.

"Hector, you were out in your own little world for a second, good to have you back" Orobos had replied back to Hector after he had noticed him being a little discombobulated.

"Ah thank you" Hector noted then passed the cards to Orobos who dealed them to the entire crew aboard the ship who wanted to play seeing as they were very interested.

"So I wonder what we can hope to see once we arrive, I want to have my blaster pistol on maximum fire power" Hector motioned to the rest of  them playing sabaac.

Looking back at the game, it was progressing well, and all the players were excited with being with each other, and having the piece in mind that the squad was one instead of split into two.

Zafo made sure to sit inconspicuously close to the threat at hand.  They were definitely good at whatever it was they did. Zafo noticed very little direct mention of the squad, but there were quite a few random words thrown in the middle of sentences.  Sam was now seated beside Rizzit, and they were now in deep conversation. There was not yet a window to safely inform the squad the two suspicious characters.

The Dragoon was beginning to grow restless.  The ship was nowhere near as fancy as his Yacht or other transportation ships of the Vast Empire. That, on top of being tuned in non-stop to the Rodian/Human conversation. Usually, one relaxed on the ride to missions as big as this one.

A monotonous voice spoke over the intercom, announcing the end of the hellish ride. As soon as the intercom clicked shut, some turbulence struck the shuttle, forcing everyone to remained seated. Zafo shifted his gaze over to where Rizzit and Sam were seated to find both of them staring right back at him. There was a piece of paper crumpled in his hand, which he then proceeded to throw at Zafo.

He caught it discretely and quickly unfolded it. He quickly scanned over it's contents;

We cannot let these two out of our site,
You will follow the Rodian, I will follow the human, just in case they split.
Rizzit knows what is going on, he's going to rally up with the rest of the squad and let them know whats going down. He's also gonna take your gear for now.
Keep a low profile, our cover is all we got right now.

The turbulence and noise of the engines stopped altogether, indicating the arrival at their destination.

Zafo pulled his hood over his head and rose from his seat, throwing the occasional glance at his target.
It begins...

Tanus sat playing cards with Hector and the rest of the Dark Dragoons for a while, telling jokes and exchanging life stories. After an hour or so more of cards, Tanus started to get tired; he was never much for cards or socializing. He put down his cards and nodded to the rest of his squad mates and headed back to his area to continue his meditations.

With barely fifteen minutes of their flight left, Tanus was awoken by Urukai. Urukai sat across from him, his equipment next to him in a small black duffel. Tanus gave him a small wave, and leaned back against the wall.

"Urukai, what the hell happened to you? The ARCs missed you."

Urukai smiled. "Medical leave. Was recuperating during a lot of what happened."

Tanus nodded; it was good to see a familiar face on he mission and someone he could share a similar camaraderie with from missions past. The two sat there, talking of what happened while Urukai was away, and what happened to him in the first place. When all was said and done, it was time to depart.

---

Tanus and Urukai got up at the same time. Tanus strapped his sword to his waist and out of the way; he did the same with his pistol. He fastened his cloak at the neck and gathered his duffel. He watched as Urukai did the same. As they both headed for the debark ramp, they received strange looks from both a human and a rodian as they headed off the ramp. Urukai and Tanus side-glanced at each other, then back ahead.

Trouble, Tanus thought.

Tanus made sure his pistol was within easy reach. He wasn't taking any chances on this mission; too much was at stake to fail.

Hector felt the ship descending onto the ground, and the plates around him were a little shaky to say the least while playing cards. Hector was about to say something when ZaFo made the look towards all his squad mates.

"Looks like were going to get into action" Hector replied after ZaFo made the appropriate adjustments to his gear. ZaFo was looking over at Rizzit, and Sam at the time, and when they arrived it was time for them to hit the trenches shall we say.

The ship ramp was making a steady run towards the ground as the ship had already ejected its landing gear. It was long and thin as Hector had thought standard lambda vessels of the imperial caliber would be like in the empire.

He studied them for a while on Coruscant knowing that these ramps lets troops get off ships, and let troops get on. As it was time with logical deduction Hector got his gear, and was properly suited up for the occasion of ground bound combat.

The other troops in the squad looked a little tired but were ready at a moments notice so once they had landed it wasn't as bad as it seemed.

Crew compliment was at a good limit with all the good soldiers needed in battle, gear was plenty, because the empire cared for every one of its imperial units so that once they entered into battle they had everything they needed.

Hector walked casually down the ramp with the rest of the squad not knowing where this would lead, hopefully he would not be shot. Either way Hector had his bag with him, and a whole bunch of gear and weaponry in it for the occasion. If there was to be a firefight Hector was ready but for now he would lay low and just walk and learn from his squad companions.

Giovanni followed with the plan. He slowly walked out of the shuttle and zipped up his leather jacket. He gripped onto his duffel bag and casually looked around to spot his teammates in the large crowd of people that had gathered by the entrance of the shuttle.

Sam and Zafo had each followed their respective targets, and Rizzit was out of sight. For the time being, Giovanni had nothing else to do but remain in cover and make sure the rest of his squadmates were out of danger.

He grumbled a little when he saw Tanus and Urukai being a little too friendly with each other. Luckily for them, they were just two people in a huge crowd of organisms of all shapes, sizes and species. Still, it was an unnecessary risk to take, especially when there were sure to be people here looking for them.

The Vast Empire Army had a reputation that followed them to any planet they stepped foot on. No doubt the local thugs had been alerted.

Giovanni took a seat and set down his bag in between his legs. He looked at the terminal and read each of the arrivals, destinations, and shuttle numbers. It helped keep him calm. Or at the very least it took his mind off the fact that his squad leaders were off somewhere, possibly being led into a trap.

"...and where the hell is Rizzit anyway..." he said quietly to himself.

He heard a light chuckle and reached slowly into his weathered jacket.

"Easy..." said a familiar voice. It was Rizzit. He had sat behind him and was killing time as well. Gio turned around to look and saw the rest of the squad filled in a random fashion in the empty rows of seats.

"Now we sit tight. I've got a channel open with Sam and Zafo. Any moment now, we move out," whispered Rizzit.

Giovanni tensed up.

"Does the rest of the squad know?" asked the Senior Sergeant as he looked around for any suspicious individuals.

"While you were busy dozing off and staring at the wall, i confronted each of them. They're all set and ready to go." retorted Rizzit, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

"Well, wake me up when it's time to go."

Giovanni closed his eyes and tried to nap. The ride over hadn't been very relaxing.

Orobos walked of the shuttle after his squad-mates. Rizzit had informed him shortly before the shuttle had landed that there were people looking for them and to be ready for action at a moments notice. Orobos had shifted everything in his bag around so that his vibro-axe and blaster were in a position in which they could be reached easily.

He walked down the ramp and heard a gentle clacking noise behind him. He glanced over his shoulder at Alater. He seemed to be smiling. He suspected that it was the thought of the seemingly inevitable fight that lay ahead that had him looking so& happy wasn't the word for it& bloodthirsty. Orobos quickened his pace and sat behind Urakai and Tanus who were remenising about the ARC squad.

He listened for a while and then started to fall asleep. He shook himself a little knowing it would be bad to be cought of guard.
He glanced over at Rizzit to catch his attention. He looked back but just shook his head. Orobos got up and started to walk up and down the aisle in between the seats catching snatches of conversations as he walked by.

Sam headed out at a good distance from the rodian's human companion. As he stepped through the door of the landing bay, he closed up his trench coat to hide his dual pistols strapped about his waist. He knew that using them would be the worst thing that he could do to start off his time on the planet, but he wouldn't hesitate if he absolutely needed to use them.

The human began to weave this way and that way through the corridors of the landing station as if to lose anyone who may be following him. Sam had quite the experience in trailing people, but he was in no way as good as a professional tracker or bounty hunter. The halls were not all that crowded and it was fairly simple to maintain a visual on the human.

Sam knew where he was planning on going, but having just arrived on planet, he was unsure if the human was just taking a very round about way of getting there or if it was really this difficult to get there. Sam had his suspicions as to this just being a round about way. He would bump into people every so often unknowingly and get a flow of curses flung at him. Sam just kept on moving with out taking any notice to the people he unintentionally upset.

The human paused in the middle of the corridor and he scanned the area for a few moments before heading to a door on the right. Sam assumed that this was the hangar bay ZaFo mentioned. Sam crept up slowly and casually to avoid bringing any attention to himself. The human punched in a few keys on the console outside the door. When he finished the door opened with the sound of pressure being released.

"Hmm, somewhat of an extensive security door they have there for the middle of a star port," Sam thought to himself. Sam looked about for a bench to take a seat and wait. He was going to wait around to see if the rodian would lead ZaFo here. The only bench that was in view of the door was right next to it and Sam opted against using that one knowing that there was a chance that anyone could come out of the door at any moment and chances are they would be on the look out for anyone unusual.

Sam headed up hall way a bit to the next bench and took a seat. Although, he could not see the door directly, he would be able to see anyone go in or out of it. He pulled out his data pad and typed in a short message, which read, "The hatch is in sight, human entered. Not seen 'Z' or rodian. I'll send an update soon." When he finished it up and felt that no body would understand as to what was intended by the message if it would be intercepted, he sent it off to Rizzit.

"Now, all there is to do is to sit tight for a bit and wait for any word from ZaFo or see if that human comes out of that door," Sam thought to himself. He undid his trench coat and fingered his weapons. He never really cared to sit around and wait. It made him nervous, but he worked his hardest to maintain his cool and not draw any attention to himself.

Alater's eyes snapped open as the shuttle began its descent, and he headed for the cargo area, but was intercepted by Rizzit on the way there.

"Private, come with me." Was all Rizzit said before turning towards the cargo hold Alater was already walking towards. He followed him inside and over towards some of the squad's spare gear, and Alater's gadgets.

"We've got a problem, but nothing to worry about. There seem to be a pair of troublemakers in the shuttle, maybe you've noticed them? Either way, I am going to ask you and Tanus to shadow ZaFo and Sam, but don't be seen. They are each going to follow one of the pair and keep an eye out." Rizzit finished.

"DeathLord, I have seen the two, a green Noser and a Pinkskin. They didn't smell right to me, but don't you think our DeathLeader and DeathMember can handle themselves? They are just just pinkskins, but the other two don't seem like much of a threat. Why not continue with our objective?" Alater replied as he began to check all of his equipment.

Rizzit smiled only for a second before turning it into a frown, "I know they can handle themselves, but Tanus and yourself are possibly the two physically strongest troopers on this squad, and I have a feeling that a little muscle may be needed. Not to mention, something about this doesn't smell right to me. Oh, and next time Private, do not question my orders." Rizzit made a swift about-face and departed the cargo hold to inform Tanus no doupt.

Alater blinked twice, and returned to inspecting his gear. His explosives were all safed, his guns loaded, and his knives sharp. In an automatic expression he loosed his claws and licked each one before drawing them back in. With a hiss and a prayer to the Death Gods Alater stood. His explosives he would put into his backpack, but his DC-17M and DL-54 stayed strapped to him behind his backpack.

As Alater trudged out of the shuttle he almost ran into Tanus, who was intent on ZaFo and deep in thought. Alater turned to him and nodded before slipping into the crowd. Despite his size and the rarity of his species Alater was still just another face in the crowd. Following Sam, they took a very strange path like one a running prey would to lose its predator, but this predator was going nowhere. When the human entered the door, Alater popped around the corner. Sam was at the far end of the hall, typing on his data pad.

Alater waited a minute or so, and sent a message to Tanus; "At local with DL, awaiting confirm on second Z." Alater scribled messily and sent it off to Tanus.

Tanus was talking with Urakai when Rizzit seemingly materialized out of nowhere behind him. He grabbed Tanus by the shoulder and pulled him aside, leaving Urakai to stand and look at his surroundings. Rizzit pulled Tanus over to the area before the landing ramp and pulled his head down.

"Listen, Tanus," Rizzit said, his voice resounding the weight of the mission. "I have a job for you. You remember those two guys on the shuttle, the Rodian and the human?"

Tanus nodded; he remembered them well. They had given looks that mixed anger, anxiety and amusement. Tanus had a feeling he knew what Rizzit was going to say before he had said it.

"Sam and Zafo are tailing them to wherever they happen to be going; where that is, I cannot say. But, what I want from you is to follow one of them. If I'm not mistaken, Alater has decided to trail Sam, so that means you'll be tailing Zafo. All I need for you to do is stay out of sight until Zafo starts to make his move. Then, send me a message via datapad that it's started. I'll move the troops out."

Rizzit paused, thinking of what to say next.

"I know you can do this; you are an ARC, so I have absolute faith in you. Just remember: stay hidden unless you feel it is necessary to come out. Just watch over Zafo for the time being, and act as some silent muscle."

Tanus nodded. He threw up his hood, made sure he had his pistol and blade, and moved out into the sea of vagrants that lay before him.

--- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Tanus walked several paces behind Zafo, to be sure that it looked like he was acting alone. Luckily for Tanus, with all of the ne'er-do-wells filing about, the fact that he was following somebody with his hood drawn up just made people get out of the way, rather than confront him. More than once, Tanus had to dive into an alleyway to keep Zafo from noticing him, and had to be extremely cautious; his hand was always at his side, ready to draw his pistol, ready for the kill.

Zafo had been tailing the Rodian for about twenty minutes when he slipped into an alleyway and out of sight. Zafo followed suit, seeing a flash of silver as his arm protruded from his cloak. Tanus put himself up against the wall, drawing his datapad and relaying a message to Rizzit:

Zafo's made his move. I'm gonna keep tailing him.

Tanus drew his pistol and made sure it was fully charged. And then turned into the alleyway, letting himself be taken in by the dark.

Give people more than they expect, and do it cheerfully. This is especially true of treachery.

"Let's move, squad." Rizzit motioned.

Urakai looked up, opening his eyes and then sitting up from the bench of which he was resting on. Hector, Orobos and Giovanni all soon stood and began following Rizzit in their own fashion. Urakai was trailing behind. It was a natural habit of his, to see the entire squad, a habit that didn't go away like the battle sensation. In fact, coming from his month's leave, Urakai wasn't so sure he was ready to fight again, but still, here he was. Urakai was just wondering about Tanus, Alater and the rest when suddenly, a blast could he heard in the distance of the large shuttleport.

Rizzit turned his head to look back at his squad, stopping. Then he gave the nod. Soon, each squad member was moving faster and faster through the crowds keeping up with Rizzit's pace. A few people scurried away from a particular area that Rizzit was leading to, and they began to pick up conversations such as, "&and they ran through that door!" or "&he just fired and then the other guy chased him."

Urakai didn't like the look of things, and neither did anyone else as they began to draw further away from each other, looking around. The life forms were moving away from that area, and soon the crowds were just a trail of voices behind them.

"There's a blast on the edge of that pillar." Gio spotted, examining the black mark on a tall pillar hold the roof.

Then Orobos noticed a door with a jammed panel, and moved over to inspect this. Urakai noticed this too, and moved over. A dull red lone shone from a small dotted light at the top of the door.

"Make sure no one's watching, and let's try and get thought that door, no one's responding!" Rizzit ordered, replacing his com and moving his hand down and lightly resting it on a blaster pistol.

Hector scanned the area while Gio, Urakai and Orobos tried to breach the door.

"The controls are jammed, It's impossible without blasters." Urakai said after the failed attempts.

Turning to Rizzit, the three looked at him, until finally, he nodded.

Withdrawing blaster pistols each, they all aimed at the door, but before they fire, Orobos said, "Wait! Don't you hear that?"

Each listened more closely, and they soon made small *peow* sounds. There was no need for explaining, so then they all aimed, and as they pulled the triggers, bolts ripped through the air and chewed away the door in small explosions. Smoke rose and the blasts continued until Rizzit held his hand up. They all stopped, and as they did, louder blaster fire was heard. When the smoke cleared, the door appeared disfigured, and the edges of the holes seamed melted. With a kick, Giovanni knocked down the door and rushed in, with Urakai right behind followed by Orobos, Rizzit and Hector.

A small gunfight was taking place right before their eyes. It seemed to be two bodyguards and a tall, fat, curiously dressed man was firing at a group of people, along with a Rodiana and a Human. The small group was none other than Sam, Zafo and Alatar, but no Tanus. The trio was hiding behind some large ship parts, and the others were behind a small speeder. Lying on the ground, dead, were two humans.

Rizzit's group wasted no time in dispersing and begin firing. Urakai, with his blaster pistol, launched several shots from his barrel before retreating to Sam's position.

"What happened?" Urakai yelled over the blasterfire as he fired another shot.

The squad was beginning to take cover now, as the others seemed very well trained to cover and fire. Then, the Human man screamed as his torso was blasted from a shot by Zafo.

Then, as one of the bodyguards was shot, Sam yelled, "We'll explain later, just shoot!"

Then, the squad noticed that the Rodian, the bodyguard and the fat man had stopped firing and dropped their weapons. One by one, the squad came out from their hiding places, all guns drawn.

Not five minutes ago, Giovanni was comfortably nodding away on a dingy chair, watching the glowing type of the terminal screen scroll the names of ships he had never heard of, heading off to destinations he had never seen.

Now more than half a dozen bodies lay strewn about the floor. The muzzle of his pistol was red hot and a thin trail of smoke was rising towards the low grey roof.

As soon as he had kicked the door down he charged in, squeezing off accurate fire in the direction of the enemies. He paid no notice to the green laser bolts coming from behind him, scorching the air and tearing his targets to pieces. He trusted the accuracy of his squadmates.

Whatever doubt the Senior Sergeant had regarding his battle readiness had fled from his mind with the first pull of his trigger.

"We'll explain later, just SHOOT!" was all he needed to hear, and enough of an explanation for the rest of the Dragoons to follow suit and find a spot to return fire. Urakai and Orobos ran and took cover with Sam and Zafo. Giovanni ran behind a pillar while Hector stuck by the crudely breached door, popping out periodically to lay down suppressing shots from his firearm.

Giovanni began to grow impatient.

"Why don't you bastards just pop your heads out and make this easier for both you and me?" he yelled. There were three of them, hidden behind a sturdy desk, shooting blindly at the Dragoons. The pillar he was standing behind was slowly turning from a finely crafted ornament to a horrible, scorched piece of crap. As he popped out to try and hit his target, a shot came too close for comfort, scorching his leather jacket.

One of them popped out as if to make a run for it, when Zafo's shot connected with his side. He went down limp, as another shot connected with his accomplice.

Intimidated, the rest of them threw their weapons down, and whimpering, came out with their hands up. Giovanni tried to imagine what they must be feeling like, staring down the barrels of the guns of seven highly trained and terribly handsome Vast Empire troopers.

He chuckled quietly to himself. Then he looked down and put a finger through the hole in his leather jacket. Holstering his weapon, he planted a firm headbutt right on the portly human's nose. He stumbled back and ended up on the ground.

"Serves you right..." he muttered, bringing the palm of his left hand up to his forehead.

A few of the newer recruits shot nervous looks over to Sam, their squad leader. Sam just smiled and holstered his firearms.

"So, which one of you wants to tell me why you were watching us on the shuttle ride over?" he shot an inquisitive look to the two that remained standing. The one on the floor looked unconscious, and was bleeding dark red blood from a cut on the bridge of his nose.

The bodyguard and the Rodian didn't respond.

"Or maybe you'd like to join your friend there..." he motioned over to the fat man on the floor, who had begun to groan in pain. The Rodian and the other human swallowed nervously as they caught sight of their accomplice on the floor.

"Whatever it is you're trying to get out of them, sir, i suggest we make it quick. I don't think there's a person in this place that didn't hear those blaster shots." Urakai chimed in, taking a look at Hector who had taken it upon himself to guard the entrance.

Giovanni, who had taken a seat on an upturned desk was nursing his aching forehead. "He's right, we need to get the hell out of dodge unless we want to shoot our way out of this wretched place."

"Ok." said Sam, his furrowed brow a sure sign of the plan he was hatching in his head.

"Orobos, bind the fat one and stow him in the other room. The rest come with us. We'll see if we can't convince these bastards to talk."

And so the interrogation process began.

"I know you don't plan on talking," said Sam as he paced about the room. "But i think that by the time i'm done with you, you'll tell me anything i want." The Rodian seemed not to care, but his human companion was visibly shaken.

"You see, me and my friends here..." continued Sam. "We have our ways."

"I'm tired of this," said Gio. He brought his hand down from his forehead long enough to walk over and give a left hook to the Rodian, aiming for what would have been the kidneys on a human.

Did he care whether the Rodian even had kidneys? No.

A few more and the Rodian was kneeling on the ground. Just the sight of it was enough to get his human friend talking. So Giovanni brought his hand back up to his throbbing forehead and sat back down.

"It sure is good to be back," said Gio, digging his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.

Tanus walked through the streets of the slum, having lost track of Zafo in the crowd of degenerates. He kept his pistol in his hand, concealed beneath his cloak and watching for his mark. Tanus continued migrating through the crowds until he came back to where he started, at the ship. He looked around and saw none of the Dark Dragoons around. He commed both Rizzit and Sam to find out where they were, but all that he got was static. Tanus sighed and started to walk away from the shuttle when he heard the sounds of blaster fire in the square below. He ran towards the site, pistol drawn and peering down. He saw the Dragoons laying fire down on many of the criminals, dropping them like flies. Tanus looked and saw that there were some others running towards them from the right flank. Not bloody likely, Tanus thought.

Tanus saw the crooks as they were running past: they were a motley crew of aliens and humans, ranging from Weequays to the average human. They were all carrying weapons that looked like they either should have stopped working in the Clone Wars or looked like something the Vast Empire could really use in the field. Tanus eyed a couple of Tenloss disruptor rifles, and a single LJ-90 sniper rifle. Tanus eyed the sniper. So there's my target, Tanus thought. Tanus kept at a slowed pace behind them. And then they stopped, and so did Tanus. Tanus raised his pistol at the back of the sniper's head, and fired. The bright blue bolt flew from the end of his DC-15s to the back of the sniper's head, leaving a smoking hole where his face might have been. The body dropped, and the others turned, surprised and angry. They raised their weapons and fired as Tanus dashed behind a metal crate on the side of the ground. Red bolts hit the crate with a distinctive pang as Tanus turned his head around the corner to get a shot. He opened fire with a burst of three bolts, dropping two of the criminals and injuring another. Damn, still three more... Tanus thought. Then he smiled and drew his sword.

Tanus jumped over the crate in a spectacular flip that landed him neatly in front of his targets. The enemies were stunned, and opened fire, pelting the ground around Tanus with blaster fire. Tanus charged, dodging every bolt he could, until he reached his first target. He brought the blade up in an upward cleave that relieved the man of one of his arms. He fell back, screaming, as Tanus brought the blade across the man's neck, severing his head clean off. He spun around, his blade extended. The man behind him got hit in the torso, sending blood everywhere. Tanus finished him off with a final slice to the spine. Tanus walked over to the wounded Weequay on the ground. He was simpering, begging for mercy in guttural basic. "Mercy?" Tanus asked. "I only give that to those who have earned it." And with that, Tanus brought the blade down, ending the alien's life. He sheathed his sword, drew his pistol and headed down to the square.

Tanus walked forward in the square, absorbing the chaos of the battle that had just occurred. Tanus had his pistol drawn even as he approached where the Dragoons had taken up residence for the time being. As he came to the door, he belt a blaster barrel come to the side of his head. He looked side ways and its owner. "Hector, relax. It's me, Tanus." Hector lowered his weapon and eyed Tanus. "Good of you to show up. Sam's been looking for you. Where the hell've you been?" Tanus shook his head. "I'll tell Sam that one myself." Tanus walked down the hall to where Sam was with the rest of the squad.

Tanus walked in to one of the rooms that was open, where Sam, Orobos and Urakai were interrogating one of the men from the shuttle. Sam turned and saw him enter the room. "Tanus, I was starting to think you were dead. What happened to you?" Tanus told him the entire story. Afterwards, Sam nodded.

"Well, its good that you're still with us. We're just finishing up with this guy now. Rizzit and the others are working with the Rodian. It appears we have our objective. Several rebel and militia groups, along with some New Republic personnel, are here because they think Thrawn his coming for them. Based on this, they have taken many prisoners that are supposedly allied with Thrawn, but we know that that isn't the case. We're also not the only ones here: several other rebel groups and Vast Empire personnel are here, but they're with us. Other than that, it's really just a question of breaking into a prison facility and saving our guys. After that, we raze the place to the ground. No survivors."

Tanus nodded. He gripped his pistol and his sword tightly. They were going to be getting a good workout.

Giovanni was still sitting on the upturned desk, his forehead now throbbing a little slower than before. As expected, their "prisoners" had been very cooperative. And to Giovanni's surprise, it only took a couple jabs to the side for them to decide to help. His knuckles hadn't even bruised at all.

He had been carefully considering the information they had strung out of these half-conscious bodies that lay on the ground before them when Tanus walked in.

"Hector, relax. It's me, Tanus."

Hector looked nervous as he held the barrel of his gun to his teammates temple. He brought a shaking hand down as soon as he was sure this man that just walked in was Tanus.

He hasn't been with us long enough to have a steady hand, thought Gio to himself. All in due time.

As soon as Sam had briefed Tanus on the new developments, they made ready to set out. They had no need for their prisoners anymore. Zafo led the remaining two at gunpoint to the room where the fat one was being held, and closed the door behind him. The Dragoons, newly joined by Tanus, holstered their weapons and made their way out of the door and into the hallway, keeping a close eye on any suspicious activity.

Three muffled shots later, Zafo came and joined the pack.

The gunfight they had only minutes earlier had cleared this section of the starport. The squad was out in the open. Giovanni was on edge.

Sam checked his datapad with Rizzit, held his hand up to stop the squad, and brought it down in the direction of the nearest exit. All made haste to the location. All but Alaster.

"And where do you think you're going?" questioned Gio. Alaster bowed his reptilian head and pulled a detonation pack out of his Army issue bag.

"To buy us some time, Deathmember." he hissed, his voice heavy with his native accent. Gio nodded and ran to rejoin the squad, now about twenty-five yards ahead in the slick, dimly lit hallway.

Behind them, the squad began to hear what sounded like the trotting of many boots. Sam gave another signal and the squad broke out into a full sprint towards an open door adjacent to the hallway about a hundred and fifty yards away. Light poured into the hallway from the opening, and nothing stood outside as to cast a shadow onto the adjacent wall.

A loud blast and a concussion wave threw a few of the squad off balance, as they approached the opening, which appeared to be a back service entrance into the starport itself, a lucky break for the Dragoons.

Orobos, running near the front of the pack, pointed out some starport service vehicles, which the dragoons quickly boarded and set out in. Zafo commandeered the sled looking vehicle, while the rest of the squad took their place in the rear area, which was probably designed to carry cargo from the terminal to the shuttles themselves.

As they sped off into the hills surrounding Abregado-rae's capital city, with the starport, spewing forth black smoke against the horizon, dotted and streaked with the many canals that lined the landscape, Giovanni slept.

Tanus took a back seat in the cargo hauler, preferring to keep a low profile as fire suppressant ships flew to the scene beneath them. Tanus closed his eyes and started to rest when Urakai shook him awake.

“Sam has our target in range, you may want to get ready.”

Tanus looked around and saw that the squad had begun to fan out in different directions, getting their armor ready. Tanus nodded and got up and took his duffel with him. He unpacked it and put on his armor, piece by piece. When he was done, he holstered his pistol and put his blade on his back. He then grabbed his helmet and held it under his arm, looking at the rest of squad. Most of them were ready to go. Sam called them all in to a circle around Rizzit.

“OK, here’s the plan. The detention facility is around here in a cut off section of forest outside of the capital. The plan is to infiltrate it and liberate the prisoners. Now, as I said, these guys are some planetary leaders that have no allegiances. Not with the New Republic and not with the Vast Empire. After we break them out, we turn them back over to their groups, so at the end it will be like ‘Driving Ms. Daisy.’”

The whole squad chuckled and looked from Rizzit to Sam. The situation was virtually bursting with excitement. Rizzit looked over the squad.

“Oh, and while we’re in the facility, be sure to grab some weapons for yourselves. You guys seam... under equipped.”

Tanus looked around: Rizzit seemed to be correct. Most of the squad only brought small arms with them, based on the secrecy of the mission. Then Sam started to speak again.

“Now we’re going to need a diversion to distract a good number of the guards. To that end, we’re going to be lighting a few fires in the forest. But we’re going to have to be cautious; because patrols will be guaranteed based on that we did in the spaceport. Hector is going to take the cargo hauler down and drop us off, then he’s going to retreat to a safe location. When I radio him, he’s going to come and pick us up, and we’ll high tail it out of here. Any questions?”

The entire squad shook their heads in a unified “no.” Sam gestured over to some fuel cans.

“Let’s get started then.”

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

The ship was brought down silently in the forest minutes after the briefing. Tanus hopped out, carrying a can of fuel under his arm, his helmet on. The rest of the squad came out soon after, most of the carrying fuel canisters as well. Tanus ran about 200 meters east and set up his can of fuel. The others did the same. When they all set them up, Hector took off and retreated back towards the city lights. Rizzit gave the command:

“Fire.”

Tanus let a single bolt out of his pistol, sending the fuel in flames and incinerating the tree it was near. The fire spread quickly. Tanus was already gone, trailing behind the Dragoons as the hurtled themselves into the burning night.

Burn, baby, burn...

The fuel from the canisters picked up quickly and spread nimbly from branch to branch, and from tree to tree. The radiant glow of the flames reflected softly off of his slightly worn stormtrooper armor. He stowed his lighter away and clasped his helmet back on. Taking one last look at the inferno, now steadily rolling down the hills and slowly making its way to the detention facility, he pulled out his blaster.

It would hardly do him any good from long-range, but neither he nor the squad planned to bring this fight outside. The facility was not exactly known to the public, since it jailed opposition leaders, rebel warlords, and political prisoners. For that reason, it was heavily secluded and fortified. But it also meant that the squad had a better chance of keeping the situation under wraps, at least long enough for them to nab their targets and escape.

A bead of sweat rolled down Giovanni's brow as he finished his sprint and came back to rejoin his squad. They were all in a line, clad in white, with their firearms at their sides. Sam and Zafo, in the middle, were quietly surveying the scene. Rizzit, with his scope, began to count the forces at the main entrance, guard posts, and around the perimeter. Giovanni took a knee in between Tanus and Orobos and awaited further instructions.

A small rush of wind was picking up, blowing the smoke and ash into the shallow valley where the detention facility stood. The guards could be seen rushing in and out of the building. The three guard towers sprang to life, and beams from their search lights strafed the brown ground leading to the timber line.

After what seemed an eternity, Sam brought his hand up, bringing the entire squad to attention. Rizzit remained looking through the scopes.

Out of the reinforced steel doors came a squad of about eighteen to twenty personnel. They hopped onto a fire control vehicle and sped off.

Rizzit looked over and nodded to Sam, who gave the signal.

Out from the timber line, the Dragoons slid down the steep side of the hill nestling the now smoked-filled valley.

Giovanni brought the rear and rolled to a stop at the bottom.

It was a surreal scene. Smoked trailed and twirled in the wind in front of them. The only light came from the watchtowers, which strafed and sliced around in the vast sea of gray in front of them.

The light of the fire burned bright against his back as Tanus slid down the hill. The smoke was generating excellent cover for the squad, as the spotlights swept back and forth along the area. One by one, the squad slid to the facility, taking points near the entrance and close to the guard towers. In the center of the facility stood the checkpoint where the personnel came in and out. Tanus gripped his pistol, just waiting for the mistake that could end his life... A comm channel call broke the silence. It was Sam.

“OK, the three guard towers are going to make this incredibly difficult for us to get into the facility, Furthermore, we have a security checkpoint to get through. The only viable option we have is cut the power. I’ll create two teams to handle each operation. The first team will be me, Orobos, Urakai and Giovanni. We’re going to cut the power so you guys can get in. The rest of you will get in and free the prisoners. Hopefully when you get out, the power should still be off. If its not, then we will be in a lot of trouble. OK, teams, split up and move out.”

Tanus stayed where he was, as did Rizzit and Zafo. Tanus began to creep along the ground, sliding his way towards Zafo. Zafo barely even looked at him. “You ready kid?” Tanus nodded, holding his pistol tightly. “OK, then lets go.” Zafo nodded to Rizzit. Rizzit started to move with the grace of a dancer, nimbly dodging the beams of light as the swept past. The destination was a group of metal cartons close the security checkpoint.

Zafo and Tanus moved themselves behind another group of cartons, waiting for the right time to go. When it came, Zafo launched himself forward, barely even touching to ground as he landed neatly next to Rizzit. Rizzit ushered Tanus forward, and Tanus waited for his time... and it came. Tanus rolled across the ground, not making a sound as he landed right in front of Rizzit. Rizzit gave Tanus a thumbs up “Nicely done.” Tanus nodded, and continued silently behind Rizzit and Zafo. Rizzit held up and a hand and Tanus came to a halt and crouched down.

From over the crates, Tanus could see the security checkpoint, and he could still see the light sweeping back and forth. And Tanus was just waiting for when it became pitch black.

"The generator should just be head," said Sam. Giovanni once again was in the back of the group, with Orobos within arms reach in front of him. Urakai, eager to leap into some action kept the pace up with Sam at the front of the pack.

Just ahead, nestled in another small valley, was the power generator. It wasn't hard for Giovanni to spot it, even though he was in the back of the group. There were lights set up to illuminate the generator and the area around it. It was massive, considering the relatively small size of the building. Clearly there were things hidden from the eye that this giant power source provided energy to.

Not to the group's surprise, there was a small security detail, reinforced by a few dressed in prison guard garb. Surely the incident with the fire had caused them to consider the power generator a security threat. But while this had certainly secured the perimeter, they would have to rely on a reduced number of men at the prison itself. Surely some smuggler had given them word of the seven mysterious figures that appeared at the starport, giving them some sort of false hope and confidence towards this meager force.

They underestimated the capability of the Empire. The Dragoons would make sure it was the last mistake they would ever make.

"Ok, let's stop here."

Sam took a knee and the rest of the group followed suit. They took what little time they could afford to try and plan something out.

"There's too many for us to just barge in and shoot it out. Not in the open like this, we're not armed for this situation..." thought Giovanni aloud. And he was right. The most they could sneak on were their blades and hold-out blasters.

"Maybe a distraction?" suggested Orobos. "If we can get them into the forest we wont have to worry about closing the distance."

"Sounds good," said Sam casually. "But we can't be spotted. If they radio in to base we'll put the entire plan in jeopardy, not to mention  Rizzit, Tanus, and Zafo."

"I'll take Urakai around the bend, right behind the generator. If you guys can draw the majority of them out, him and I can sneak up and take out the rest along with the generator. With no light, the rest will be easy." Giovanni's plot had been carefully considered. It seemed to him like the only rational way to go about the elimination of over a dozen targets. Being outnumbered five to one was no trouble.

Excellent odds for any soldier of the Vast Empire.

So they went through according to plan. Gio and Urakai went around behind the generator. There they could sneak in quietly without being seen. Directly across from them were Sam and Orobos.

Using the reflective surface on his pistol, Sam shot a glare using one of the light posts right into the face of a guard.

He brought his hand up to his face and for a second wondered what he had just seen. Gio and Urakai were too far away to hear what uncouth words he might have uttered, but his body language was unmistakable. The game was on.

The guard motioned over to a group of five of them, playing a game of sabaac on top of a few iron crates. Altogether, eight walked into the forest with their lights, hoping to find nothing in the darkness.

On the other side of the gully were Giovanni and Urakai, ready to pounce. They slid down in the same fashion as before and came at a stop right behind the generator. From what he remembered, Urakai had seen three guards standing in the middle and on both sides of the power source.

They would be no problem to take care of.

But to do so without alarming the other four still playing sabaac by the light post was a challenge. At that distance there wasn't much they could do. Before they could act however, a series of muffled shots and screams came from the forest, attracting the attention of the four left playing sabaac. They stopped to argue about what to do.

Gio and Urakai took this as their chance and the two leapt out from cover to attack the three targets closest to them. The first went down with a leg sweep from behind from Gio. His arms firmly nestled the man's head and snapped it into an awkward angle. Urakai took use of his blade and slit the other man's throat. His gurgling attracted the attention of the last guard, however, who caught a glimpse of the two men clad in white and black.

Whether by fear or sheer surprise, the man stood petrified. With an upward strike with the palm of his hand, the man's nose broke. Unconscious, he fell back in a heavy heap of meat and bone.

The four, now convinced they had to go into the forest, walked slowly, one behind the other, into the woods. Gio stood and watched, kneeling close to the generator so as not to attract their attention. That's when Urakai cut the power.

Green bolts from Sam and Orobo's pistols cut through the group of men, and the battle was done.

All Giovanni and the rest of them could do now was hope that Rizzit's group could tackle their objective with relative ease.

Urakai had barely noticed that the shine had now faded behind the hills, and the only light was the burning blaze in the distance. Muffled cries and shouts could be heard in the distance as sparks flew from the generator cable, leaving no source of power. Urakai cut it fast and without hesitation, or else he would have been fried.

“Let’s move.” Gio motioned as blasterfire could be heard in the distance.

Urakai grinned, replacing his helmet on top of his head, party time.

It was lucky that Sam had them pack their armor in their packs; else the heavy smoke in their lungs would affect their fighting. Giovanni advanced forward, while Urakai crouched low and dug his vibro blade deep into the dry dirt, cleaning it from the blood. Then, he picked himself and followed Gio, replacing his blade opposite his second blade on the utility belt. As Urakai and Gio walked outside, two shadowy figures emerged from the blaze behind them.

“Nice job.” Sam congratulated, with Orobos right behind.

“What now?” Orobos asked.

Before Sam could answer, the comlink buzzed with static, “Sam, we’ve snuck inside past the guard towers. They’re pretty frantic right now but I don’t think they’ll have a battery system for the spotlights. Proceeding to cells.”

Everyone heard this, and Urakai was the first to speak, “It’s Zafo. Think we should go in?”

“No,” Sam responded, “Better stay out here just in case they have any friends. We’ll be ready if they need backup, though.”

In the follow short minutes, the Dragoons had positioned themselves all over the entrance, waiting to burst through the entrance, or eliminate a backup group. The flames from the fire had dimmed, and fresh air began to come through the helmet filter again as the smoke cleared. Urakai looked up to see thousands of stars, gleaming in the sky. It was not as dark as they all had thought. This became a problem, as the white stormtrooper armor easily reflected.

Soon, Urakai whispered into the helmet mouthpiece, “I think we should take out the guard towers now.”

He was soon responded with, “Okay, but lets be quiet, we don’t need anymore attention.”

Urakai crept over to Giovanni’s position and handed him one of his short vibro blades. Gio took interest in this, as he gripped it and slowly made his way toward the guard tower ladder. Orobos was ordered to keep guard while Sam took the third towed, positioned more like a lookout. Slowly, Urakai crept up the ladder, making sure to be as light as a feather.

He was only a few feet away from the top, when the comlink buzzed, “Guys, there are too many turrets at the security checkpoint. We easily killed the people but the turrets are indestructible-” the comm suddenly switched from what sounded like Tanus, to Zafo, “The turrets have some sort of generators attached to them, but also have some kind of shields protecting them, we’re going to need some heavier equipment to penetrate it.”

Everyone heard this, and the worst part, was that at that moment, the spotlights in the guard towers suddenly boomed on, revealing Orobos, laying in the long grass, stunned. Urakai and Gio pulled themselves up the ladder at incredible speed, getting up and over in a flash. To Urakai, he saw two men, one aiming a rifle at Orobos and another grabbing his own. Quickly, he shot his arm out with his wrist fling the blade through the air and slicing the hand off one. Orobos was already on the move as Gio took out the guards in the tower while Urakai dodged a blast from the other man, giving him a nice hard kick to the jaw, sending him off the platform. To the other man, Urakai saved him the pain of just blasting his head.

“It’s safe now, Orobos!” Urakai yelled, wondering where he had ran to.

Soon, Orobos showed himself as Urakai aimed the high beam spotlight away from his face.

“Damn, man, your lucky Orobos.” Gio commented, sliding down the the tower.

Urakai grabbed his vibro blade and strapped it to his belt, then picked up the two blaster fifles, “Here catch!”

He dropped them to be caught by Gio and Orobos, then he himself slid down the ladder to regroup with them.

“Where’s Sam?” Orobos asked, looking around.

“Right here,” Sam replied, climbing down the last of the ladder, and in hand, he was carrying a heavy blaster rifle, “I think this will take care of those shields.”

The heavy repeater rifle was a godsend. None of their light arms packed the punch to cut through the shields and heavy armor plating of the automated turrets. And it looked as if both the turrets and the basic lights in the place, including the spotlights in the towers outside, were being run by some backup power source deep inside the facility. It was something Giovanni had failed to consider, but the Dragoons could have done nothing about it. Luckily for them, the Communications array was still down. But for how long?

The short range communicators each of the guards carried posed little threat to the Dragoons. Everyone outside of the detention facility had been neutralized, and the nearest backup was out of the range of their transmitters, back in Capital city. This kept many smugglers and other shifty characters from infiltrating the channels, but also kept the guards relying on the Communication array for long distance transmissions.

"Ok, we've got the firepower... let's go in there and clear the way. Move out Dragoons," Sam barked with confidence. As they entered through the main door, they noticed the many bodies lying on the ground. The majority of them were guards, who lay dead at their desks, their weapons still holstered to their bodies. It seemed like the darkness had proved to be all the cover Rizzit, Tanus, and Zafo needed. Farther up ahead, through a security door, they could see the three, huddled by the corner of a wall, the occasional blaster bolt flying by them and hitting the far wall. The fact that the entire place was lit dimly by the emergency lights made the bright red lasers stand out even more, washing their shiny white armor in a crimson hue for fractions of a second.

Sam put his hand on Zafo's  shoulder, who noticed his squad mates for the first time since they had entered. He looked down at the heavy blaster, and nodding, moved out to make way for Sam.

He peeked around the corner long enough to catch a glimpse of two heavy automated turrets, along the hallway, one on either side of what seemed to be an intersection. No doubt the intersection would lead them to the wings where the detention cells were located. Such destructive firepower meant that whoever tried to escape, or in their case, break in, never made it down the end of the hall.

Sam brought the barrel around the edge of the wall and squeezed off a shot that went wild. The kickback on the blaster caused Sam to jab Gio right in the rib.

"That damn thing packs a punch!"

Sam settled once again and fired another shot that connected, bringing the shields down in a splash of sparks and noise. Another bolt wrecked the turret and turned it into a piece of molten slag. A couple of well-placed shots did away with the other turret, allowing the Dragoons safe passage for at least another stretch of dimly lit hallway. Once they arrived at the intersection, Sam decided to split the squad up again.

"Ok guys, same groups as before. Rizzit, Zafo, and Tanus, you guys take the left fork and see if you can find the cells. I don't think we got rid of all of the guards, so stay on your toes. The rest come with me, we're going to search the other wing. If the cell isn't in the east wing, its bound to be over here."

In the back of Giovanni's mind was still the worry that the Comm array could be brought back on-line. He had experience in dealing with things of the nature, due to his specialty training, but for him to put any of it to use he had to find it.

And if he didn't find it, he hoped the guards wouldn't either.

Sam and Giovanni stormed in, blasters at the ready. As they turned the corner, they found three guards that had taken shelter in the corner, thinking the turrets would keep them safe. They were wrong, and were quickly put to an end with a few well aimed shots from Sam and Gio. Blaster fire was also heard in the left wing, but thought of nothing to worry about. The detention blocks became visible. A short hall with doors parallel, each sealed with heavy bars. Projectors in the ridges of the doors indicated that the doors must have also been protected by a shield, however taken down with the generator.

“Hold your fire, Dragoons.” Sam ordered as he cautiously moved down the hall.

Most of the cells were empty, apart from a Twi-lek, a Human and what appeared to be an indigenous species of Abregado-rae.

The human became wide-eyed, “Imperials?” he asked himself, “That can’t be.”

Once again, the comlinks buzzed, “Three humans in this part, sir, the bars are thick, what are you intending?” Zafo asked.

“We’re here to free you, that’s all you need to know at this point,” Sam said to the prisoners before returning to converse with Zafo.

Then Orobos pointed out a console at the end of the hall, the glowing blue lights indicating it was functional.

“Wait sir,” Zafo said, “we see some sort of a computer terminal at our end.”

“Yeah, we see it too, it must unlock these jails. Proceed.” Sam responded, then walking up to the console and examining it.

Sure enough, there was a release button. Without hesitating, Sam clicked on the button. All too suddenly, the dim blue lights of the roof turned red as the bars lifted from the cells. A small alarm when off, follow by a strange beeping.

“You think that beeping is radar?” Urakai asked, puzzled at the sudden change.

“No,” Gio responded, who realized what it was, “It’s a beacon!”

“It must’ve been a trap button!” Rizzit yelled through the comlink.

“All Dragoons, forward those prisoners and out!” Sam shouted, grabbing the arm of the Twi-lek and running behind the rest of the squad.

In all the confusion, Urakai just ran with the rest, who soon combined with the other ring, running down the hall, past the two melted turrets. The part of it, though, was that the entrance door began to shut. Without thinking, Urakai darted to the door, grabbed it by the bottom, and with all the energy he had in himself, he pulled the door up. It began to slow in shutting, but it was still shutting. Quickly, Orobos joined Urakai, and together, they held the door enough so everyone was able to crouch under it.

“Go!” Urakai shout to Orobos.

Orobos then dropped and rolled out then Urakai quickly did the same and missed having his head crushed by an inch.

Picking himself up, Sam ordered, “Get them onto that transport, and let’s get out of here.”

Urakai stood as the four humans, the two indigenous Abregado-rae creatures and the Twi-lek were led out into what was left of the forest, a black smoky heap.

The sun was now barely starting to shine its new rays onto the landscape. The smoke was starting to clear, but was still a bit of a nuisance, as it made finding the cargo transports they rode in on even more difficult.

"Over there," yelled Gio. He spotted the transports, both parked on the edge of what used to be the timber line. The two vehicles hadn't sustained any internal damage from the fire, but they each looked more roasted than he remembered.

Either way, they were a sight for sore eyes.

The seven they had just busted out walked stumbling, and covering their eyes from the bright sun that was pouring over the hills. They hadn't seen the light of day, or been out of their cells in some time.

The twi'lek turned to him and spoke a few words of Ryl, but he couldn't understand a thing. From what he could read off the body language, he assumed they were words of thanks. These resistance groups were zealous fighters, but all too often, they lacked the manpower to mount such an attack on the facility.

Once they were onto the cargo carriers and ready to roll out, one of the human men spoke out.

"Why did you come to get us? If you expect us to join you and the Empire, then i regret to tell you it won't happen. Put me back in my cell if you want." He was only a little bigger in build than Giovanni, but he showed a zeal that he didn't often get to observe in those outside of the Army.

"We're not here to convert you," said said calmly as he drove the transport through an old dirt track through what little was left of the forest. Somewhere far away the fires still blazed, but here the flames had already consumed everything they could. "You were all resistance leaders, and i think it is in your best interest to help us. Think of us as temporary friends...with a common goal."

The human spoke quietly with the others in his transport: a short furry creature native to the planet, and two other humans. They deliberated in a mix of basic and some other language. Giovanni paid no attention, however, and took the time to rest a little. He never knew when he'd get a chance to take a nap.

Looking over to the other transport, running parallel to them, he saw Orobos, Urakai, Hector, and Zafo at the wheel. Rizzit was in the passenger seat. The rest were in his transport, he was sure. All but Alater, who has staid behind in the starport to distract the Planetary forces.

He would no doubt try to mix in with the locals and seek out one of the other squads operating in the capital city. He'd be alright.

"All right, imperials." spoke up a bearded man, not the largest or most strong of the group, but definitely the oldest. "You have helped us escape, and i am grateful. We are all very much in your debt. Take me to my people, and we will help you as best we can..." The humans on either side of him didn't seem too excited by the idea, but held their tongues.

"Ok. Lead the way."

The older man climbed into the passenger seat and gave Sam directions. The second transport slowed down just enough to get behind them and follow.

Giovanni reached behind his back and unclipped a flask from his belt. He took off his helmet and laid it by his feet, and unscrewed the cap slowly. He shot his eyes to one of the humans, who had been staring at him and was startled at the smile on Giovanni's face.

"Drink?" he offered.

The human looked dis trustingly at the flask held out towards him.

"Suit yourself," said Gio, as he took a drink and then offered to the human next to him. He wasted no time, and took the bottle from Gio's hand. After he had taken a hearty swig, he handed it back.

"My thanks," he said. "I haven't tasted Corellian whiskey since Shelov's men put me in that wretched cell..." his head sunk a little lower.

"Well, you're out now, and Shelov's days are numbered. Be glad the Empire decided to step in." The transport gradually came to a stop, just past the charred forest and in view of a road that led them in between two mountains.

"From now on, we walk," said the old man. "If things are as i left them, they'll shoot a vehicle full of uniformed troops and ask questions later."

And so they left the transports behind, and walked, not as captors and captives, but as a group of soldiers, all embroiled in the same struggle. As they came closer to the gap in between the two cliff's a loud voice shook them to their core.

"HALT! Who goes there?!" The cliff walls did a good job of amplifying the sound, shaking the very ground beneath their feet. Giovanni had heard of them. The Gado Hill Clans. Separatists forced to live in the mountains, their supplies cut off by Shelov and forcing them to rely on smugglers.

"Has it really been that long, that you don't recognize your father, Jynn?" said the third of the humans, the largest of them all.

The young man on the cliff side stood speechless.

"I think it is safe for us to pass," said the old man, and the seven separatists walked ahead of the Dark Dragoons, leading them through what seemed more like a huge chasm in the ground than a road in between two cliffs.

He lead them to an opening at the end, where a number of tents and fire pits were bustling with life. One look at the stormtroopers quickly changed all of that, and before they knew it, there were guns pointed at them from all directions.

"I thought you said it was safe?..." whispered Rizzit.

"Put your weapons down!"

Jynn yelled as he ran down from the cliff above, and ran to embrace his father. The rest saw this and slowly put their blasters down, some newer models, and some that looked like they needed to be replaced.

"Tell the council the seven have returned." said the old man to the senior-most guard. "And make sure our guests are accommodated.

Tanus stood at the center of the group, pistol and sword at his feet, watching the spectacle in front of his squad. The squad stood, hands raised and weaponless, surrounded by rebels while a village elder hugged his son. As the elder stepped back, he stared at one of the senior guards.

"Tell the council the seven have returned. And make sure our guests are accommodated.”

The man stared from the old man to the Dragoons and grimaced. He nodded to his men to lower their weapons, and they did, albeit reluctantly. The senior guard nodded at two of his men to come towards him, to provide backup, but from what, Tanus had no idea. None of the Dragoons were stupid enough to make a move in a camp where just about everybody had a weapon. The guard finally spoke after about five minutes of muttering to his guards. Tanus watched as the scurried down to the camp.

“Grab your weapons and follow me. No funny business, or you’ll be dead faster than you can blink.”

Tanus rolled his eyes, and reached down for his pistol and sword. He holstered his pistol and secured his sword before moving out. He was at the back of the group with Gio and Urakai. Tanus eyed the camp. It looked positively ancient. It was in what appeared to be a dead grove of some kind, was there were still trees here and there. From all appearances, it looked like a Tusken Raider camp. Tanus continued forward, getting very strange looks form the locals: a mixture of hatred and awe.

The senior guard stopped short, bringing the little trip to a halt. He turned to face the rest of the squad. His face was contorted in a look of disgust. He then addressed both Rizzit and Sam directly.

“These three tents are your quarters for the time being. You can explore the camp as you wish, but if you or your men do anything, we shoot to kill. Just remember that.”

Rizzit gave a curt nod. Sam just grunted his answer.

Then the guard turned and walked away. Sam turned to the Dragoons.

“OK, well, we can’t do to much here. As it is, we have to convince these rebels to help us as much as possible; that will be Rizzit and mine’s job. As for the rest of you, just keep a low profile. I don’t want you doing anything that will hurt our chances of using their aid. And now, to divide the troops to their quarters; Rizzit, Zafo and I will take this one,” Sam pointed to the tent directly behind him. “Orobos and Hector will take that one. And Gio, Urakai and Tanus will take the last one.”

Tanus walked in to the tent, and realized how much these people must hate outsiders. They had cots that were probably held together by duct tape or less, and probably should have been burned after the Clone Wars. Tanus shrugged and dropped his duffel on the ground. He unzipped it and pulled out his regular clothes; he figured that if he walked around in his armor the entire time, people might get anxious and just make a move. When Tanus was finished, his armor was at the foot of his bed. His pistol was still holstered at his side, his blade slung across his back. He looked to both Gio and Urakai; they had decided to sit down for a bit. Tanus told them he was just going for a walk. They both nodded and fell back on the ancient mattresses they were given. Tanus lifted the flap of his tent and walked outside for a while.

--- --- ---

When Tanus got back to the tent area, he saw the rest of the Dragoons all talking. He moved in closer to hear the conversation better.

“...Well, we do need to talk to them. If we can get them to help us, it’ll make our lives a whole hell of a lot easier,” Sam said. He turned and saw Tanus walking forward. He nodded at him and gestured him forward.

“Hi, Tanus. We’re just discussing what we’re going to do when we have to leave. We want to try and get the elders on our side, maybe send some support, so we can get to our next objective.”

Tanus nodded. He had thought that they would be leaving the camp soon, but he wasn’t aware that it would be this soon. Sam looked back at him. “Put on your cloak. We’re going to meet the elders now.”

--- --- ---

The elder’s tent was a gigantic, almost circus tent in the far corner of the camp, with the setting sun behind it. Tanus trudged along, still getting the same looks as when the Dragoons had entered the camp. Tanus merely ignored them; this was going to make or break the mission for them. As the Dragoons walked forward, they were stopped my some of the guards.

“We have business with the elders. Stand aside or meet the dirt.”

The guards moved out of their way, and the Dragoons entered the tent. There was a fire in the center of the room, with eight old men and women seated around it. As the squad entered, Sam ordered them to stop at the door.

“Let Zafo, Rizzit and I handle this. Just stay here and look pretty.”

Tanus smirked as the three of them walked forward. The men and women eyed over the members of group with a detached interest. Finally, after what seemed like hours, one of the elders finally spoke.

“Well, soldier, you have done us a great service in returning those people to us; without them, the resistance may not have survived for much longer. We are in your debt.”

Sam nodded. “Thank you for your praise elders. But the reason we’re here is to pick up that debt you just mentioned. It seems that there is a list of targets that our superiors are interested in having. It is a list of targets and schedules and things of that nature. Do you happen to have something like that?”

There was quite a bit of murmuring among the elders. Tanus could feel it; the tension in the room was palpable. Then a surprising answer came: “Yes, soldier, we have that document. You may have it. It seems like you need it much more than we do.” The elders rose. “Good luck and God speed.”

The entire squad bowed, and then left the tent. Now this is where it was going to get interesting...
