Info: The regions west of Montellian Serat are made up of deep rivers and marshland. Further west still is a region of deep valleys that would be impossible to march an army through.

Status: Imperial controlled. Patrol boats watch the rivers for enemy activity.

Dark Dragoons Mission: River Patrol

Intel suggests that the New Republic Special forces will attempt the cross the marshlands west of old Serat during the night. You will be sent to the river north west of Montellian Serat and deployed on a pair DB-7 patrol boats and will assist with Devaronian forces in attempting to stop as many of them from crossing as possible.

Do not stray too close to the northern bank as you may come under fire from missile emplacements. A previous attempt by a single special forces team was stopped and the details have been studied since. It seems they are using two methods to cross the rivers.

The first is a design we have not seen before. What appears to be a flat, black piece of metal, six-by-twelve feet in size is in fact a very compact repulsor sled. Teams of four men along with some equipment lie flat on the sled making them very difficult to spot visually or with sensors. Whilst our technicians are still working on some form of graviton sensor to detect these sleds you will simply have to use concentrated observation.

The second method is aquatic troopers swimming underneath the surface and then crawling across intervening marshland. The suits they are using make them almost impossible to detect by our usual sensors, so we have had to rig the patrol boats with archaic sonar detectors.

Equipment: DB-7 patrol boats (similar size toDB-7) These are equipped with a heavy repeater-grenade launcher combi on the deck. And also on the underside is a personal bubble loaded with a repeating harpoon gun. (Imagine the bubbles on the side of LAAT's underwater) The patrol boat has sonar for picking up aquatic troopers, but Special Forces on the surface will need to be spotted using the big IR flood light and goggles.
Hostiles Engaged: Republic Special Forces armed with a variety of weapons. They are few in numbers but very highly trained. Whilst those spotted on the surface will be easier to dispatch, the aquatic troopers will be easier to detect, but a lot more dangerous.

"Just a quick note, we have two new members to the Goons, Jacen and Bryan" muttered Evani briefly motioning her hand to the two recruits who were seated across them in their transport to their mission location. The Dragoons each gave a hasty wave or greeting before returning their focus to Evani. They have returned from Utapau with new scars and bruises as souvenirs. Evani intended to send the squad on a long deserved vacation, but much to her and Zafo's dismay they were called to Captain Raziel's office where he gave them one of their longest mission briefings Evani had yet to experience. Shortly afterwards Evani briefed the squad, and in a matter of hours they were sent on their way to Devaron.

"So why did you bring Jowak with?" asked Jakireth as he stole a glance at the colossal sleeping form of the wookiee.
"He will be managing our heavy repeater-grenade launcher, he would be able to handle it with ease thanks to his size and skill. I ask you not to throw any grenades you managed to bring with. That's what Jowak is for. At this time we cannot risk contaminating the water and causing a big racket with random explosives." Ordered Evani crisply. Some of the troopers had the tendency to bring along a weapon or two, which could only get in the way. She stole a quick glance outside the window. They were descending rapidly into a forest clearing about a mile from the river.

Evani will be the captain of the one boat, and I will manage the second one. Our teams consist of the following; Jakireth, Bryan, Vint and Gio will be under my command. The rest with Evani. Keep your eyes sharp. There are not a lot of these guys, but they are much more skilled then any of us are at the moment."  Said Zafo as they all clambered to their feet when the shuttle stopped. The doors at Garet's back open with a hiss, sharp sunlight started to flood the interior of the ship blinding them for a second.
"Ok guys, get out" ordered Evani grabbing her gear. They quickly jumped from the shuttle before it left hastily. They didn't need to attract an overuse of attention.
Far-off Evani managed to recognise the patrol boats assigned to them floating about the banks of the river.
"Quick-quick. Lets go," muttered Garet. It took a few minutes of hard marching to reach it. Once they reached their boats it took them another hour of preparations before they could leave. It took a combined effort from Zafo and Giovanni to rig their boats with sonar detectors.

"You think we should try and steal one of those sleds?" asked Garet as they waited for Giovanni to finish the last touches before he called them out to ship off.
"We could try, but first lets see them in action" muttered Evani when they scrambled on deck. Soon enough they set off and quick enough everyone had their rifles raised and aimed.

"Well that takes care of the sonar devices," said Gio after wiping the sweat from his brow. He put his helmet back on and familiarized himself with his surroundings.

He wasn't exactly an expert engineer yet, but he didn't have a problem wiring an archaic sonar device to a monitor on the patrol boat. After all, he had spent some of his time as a child tinkering with all sorts of outdated devices back on Coruscant.

He focused again on the task at hand. He got onto one of the two patrol boats and briefly greeted the new recruit. He gave Zafo a pat on the back as he brought the patrol boat to life, and his Assistant Squad Leader nodded a greeting back to him.  Giovanni made his way inside the cabin and sat down a seat away from Jakireth, who was checking his equipment. The two said nothing to each other. They knew it wasn't the time to fraternize. Giovanni put his bag and slung his rifle over his back and made his way to the back of the patrol boat. From a distance he could see Evani's group settling in.

"Is everything working well?," asked Zafo without looking up from the controls of the patrol boat.

"As far as I'm concerned they are," responded Giovanni taking a look around the river. "How are we supposed to patrol this entire river by ourselves?"

"We'll be fine.  Don't tell me you're starting to lose faith in our squad," said Zafo, only half-jokingly.

"No, not at all." Gio responded. In truth, he wasn't too confident in bringing two new recruits on a mission such as this. But then again, he had been put in a very similar position back when he had gotten his start.

"Well, we'll go as far west as we can without running into any enemy fire, and Evani will go the opposite way. Eventually we'll both meet right here at the rendesvouz point and continue East, while Evani's patrol boat will continue West and so on."

"Sounds good to me," said Giovanni. He took one last look around the River and surrounding marshland and set his chronometer to go off right before night fall. He took off his helmet and propped it between his head and the outer hull of the cabin and got some rest.

It was gonna be a long night.

The surrounding fire team shot a glance towards Jakireth as he slid an ammunition pack into his modified E-11. Mere minutes after Evani had received and spread the news of their dispatch to the struggle ensuing upon Devaron, he had tweaked his personal rifle for the mission at hand. Infrared and night vision scopes, along with high-energy rounds that would retain all of their velocity upon entering the expanse of water they were conveniently sitting on.

"We're going to need a more efficient way of guarding this channel..." Giovanni noted as he scanned the open area about him.

Jakireth laid his weapon along the empty space of bench next to him and responded with a nod:

"That's true. Two patrol boats isn't going to do much at all, especially with the amount of space the opposition can cross..." He paused for a moment, changing his view to the available squad leader, "Zafo, what exactly do these Rebel sleds look like?"

"I wish I knew more... Apparently they're flat pieces of an unknown material, able to skate across the river without detection or allowing its occupants to face the water about them." The man at the controls said as he steered the vehicle sharply to the right; avoiding a hidden bank of land.

Vint chimed in at this point, questioning with uncertainty, "If that's true, then how are we to pick them out without the overuse of our fog lamps? When we were briefed, it was advised that we avoid all unnecessary enemy contact. How are we to avoid the baddies when they're practically invisible... and the main equipment we have can attract unwanted attention?"

"We sweep the coverage area assigned, and keep crossing to a minium. No other way to put it." The Corporal who had once again began fumbling with his blaster observed.

Night was falling quickly over the marsh ridden location the Dark Dragoons were traversing, and the low hum of the boat's engine was the only noise that could be pulled out of the normal forms of nature. This troubled the current squad members within the given transportation, forcing everyone to watch their possible sight lines closely. If these expertly trained enemies spotted their position, things could turn quite ugly...very fast.

Zafo turned about, his eyes finding the new trooper, Bryan.

"You," He pointed, "Get the grenade repeater on standby...I want it at the ready if we need it."

"Sir." The recruit acknowleged, making his way to the back of the deck.

Jakireth had recently lifted his scope to his eyes, and his hand flew into the air:

"Zaf, cut the engines, lights, everything. You and Gio come take a look at this."

"You're right Jak, that is a beautiful hill..." Zafo said sarcastically in response to the Corporal's warning.

Giovanni rolled his eyes, poking his ASL in the arm, "No, Zaf... Jak, switch to the heat imaging."

There was a pause as the trooper tweaked the scope's view settings, and a rich cascade of red appeared on the finder. The screen's swirling plasma fell softly over the now visible targets.

"The wonders of technology..." He muttered as the nearby Senior Sergeant removed a hidden pistol.

"What action are we taking?" Vint asked from his crouched position near Private Bryan.

The squad leader turned silently around, grabbing a duffel bag that was concealed behind the left bench...he was also smiling.

"Are you serious?" Jakireth groaned, anticipating the inevitable statement.

"It's an amazing setting, Jak. We have the stars, nature...and must prevent it from being contaminated by the now apparent Rebel scum."

As he got over the initial shock of what he was asked to do, the Corporal stood quickly, removing his thick night gear and revealing a slim water suit beneath.

Vint nearly fell over with laughter:

"It looks like you were preparing for this possibility for a while now..."

"Someone told me 'river', I put on river gear. Not to mention...I was guessing Gio would push me in eventually." He retorted with a snicker.

"And my obvious dislike of this stuff aside," Jakireth noted as he pointed to the gentle collision of waves outside their boat, "I can still whoop your ass..."

Zafo did his best to contain his excitement, "Just get in..."

"We head east as far as possible for now while Z goes the opposite. We meet back here hopefully as we come down again. You guys reading me so far?"
Evani was hastily tying her hair into a loose bundle behind her head as she briefed her team.  An orange hue surrounded them as the sun set in a dusk evening. Far above them, tiny sparks already began to shine. A few constellations began to form as well. Night was coming in quickly along with a dry wind bring the smell of the surrounding nature to them. Along the few clear banks between the marshlands of the river the amphibian cold-blooded animals were slowly coming to live. Dimly Evani managed to catch the dim shine of blue tinted scales before it slipped into the water without disturbing as much as droplet.
Much to beautiful for war beings such as us Evani thought to her self before one of Jowak's growls of questions snapped her back to them. Checking her wristcom for the translation she went ahead.

"No, Jowak. I will do the sniping, Garet, you will be our aqua trooper while Jenny, as boring as it will be, you'd have to manage the boat for us through the river. Joey, you of course will be at the repetitive grenade launcher machine, and Jacen will be our scout" said Evani as she stepped over the small cabin where their equipment were stored. Jenny followed her hastily when she motioned to her to tag along her.

"Your job is to monitor any communication signals, the channels. Our navigations and so on as well as to steer the boat. Try and keep it down with the sound. We don't want anyone to spot us even though we are blipping about the radar. The chances of any activity in the signals and radars are zero, but keep a checkout none the less. Also, I already told Zafo to refrain from contacting us in case of emergency. I want to keep us shadowed.  Get to it"

"Yes, right away," replied the Twi'lek giving a small salute before she turned to the job at hand. As Jenny settled her self in at what Evani supposed was the rudder or wheel, Evani quickly gathered the rest of the equipment.

Jacen ducked startled as Evani unexpectedly seemingly hurled something in his direction. Garet caught it grinning at Jacen's surprise.
"Sensors and detectors for the water. I know there's nothin said about poison waters, but lets just make sure." She muttered as she pre-checked her sniper rifle. Jacen glanced about unsure.
"What am I supposed to do?"
Evani glanced up caught of guard for a second before she broke into a grin.
"Sorry, forgot, here, take this... and this... this, and this." She muttered handing him a variety of macrobinoculars, audio pickups, sensors and other equipment and last but not least a sniper rifle.
"I will scout the water from the front half of the ship, you do the back half, when Garet is not fishing in the water he will assist us, so lets get going"

After fitting the rebreather mask on tightly over his face and testing his visual gear out, Giovanni gave the go ahead signal and tumbled into the black depths. Above him he could hear the boat emit a dull roar as it churned the water near the surface. Another 2 crashes and plops later, he knew Zafo and Jak were in the water.

Giovanni turned around in the water and caught the two dark silhouettes floating only a few meters apart. He turned his heat sensor on and a slight shiver ran down his spine as the black space turned to a sea of blue and red.

Zafo signaled to his 9 o' clock. The patrol boat was now a short distance away from them, and the roar of the engines was no longer throwing their senses off. Sure enough, on Zafo's 9 was a cluster of green and orange blips gathering on one side of the river.

With another motion of his hand, the three Dragoons inched their way towards the bank.  The sound of the water churning past his ears evoked a feeling of nostalgia in Giovanni. He had loved swimming, and he had always excelled in it, but upon joining the VE swimming, like many of his other hobbies, had been left behind.

His muscles felt like they were going to burst through his wet suit, and his thighs were beginning to ache, when the three Dragoons surfaced a few hundred yards from the group of rebels gathered by the river's edge.

"I dont get it," whispered Jakireth. "Do they not know we're here? How could they not see the patrol boat?"

Giovanni gave a soft chuckle as he looked through his scope. "I can't believe this... They must've left all electronic equipment behind to stay off of our sensors. This is gonna be easier than we thought."

"Give me a head count," ordered Zafo.

"I count four special ops... At least i think..."

"Your orders, sir?" inquired Jakireth.

"Hold on a second, i think i have an idea..."

Zafo grabbed a handful of mud and rubbed it into his suit.

"Follow me."

"Old school?" Jakireth asked with a grin, nearly invisible through the dark blanket of night.

"You know it." Zafo replied, splattering the wet dirt all over his body and advancing at a crouch.

The shadows became closer and closer as the 'Goons assault team proceeded forward; the squad leader and Giovanni with bent knees, and the Corporal at a crawl, scanning the enemy constantly with his rifle. They had somehow retrieved a skimming sled in the time it took for the group to situate themselves in the water, and were now preparing to ski across. Of course, this couldn't be allowed to happen; any intel or reinforcement from this area could devastate the battles occuring violently already across Devaron, especially with how these Rebel troops were regarded as: experts.

The trio didn't give a damn.

The opposition cannot move about the prescribed marsh lands, any forward victory will result in errors to occur later.

"Of course, Sir..." Jakireth mumbled to himself, recalling the words of mission-head Captain Raziel.

A few moments later, Zafo lifted his muddied arm, raising three fingers and waving them hastily:

Split and flank, a classic he'd learned and practiced in training camp. The experience remained fresh in his mind as he regained what information was needed to complete it, despite how long ago it actually happened.

The sniper-toting trooper noticed the Rebels jump for the bank, and the team moved in with pre-determined; deadly speed.

"Down, asshole..." Giovanni yelled as he kicked his target to the ground, placing his shin on his chest and pressing with his body weight.

One of the stealthily clad enemies sprinted quickly for the river, and was dropped immediately by 8 weapon's rounds; a compliment of Zafo and Jakireth.

The ASL tackled the next nearest opposing soldier, with Jakireth knocking the remaining one in the neck with his recently unclipped blaster pistol, letting his rifle catch it's sling.

The struggling came to a stop, with one of the four dead and the others apprehended:

"Got mine..."

"He's down."

"This one just earned a headache..."

That was a little too easy, thought Giovanni to himself as he lifted the masked rebel soldier by his vest.

"How many in your camp?!," interrogated Gio, in the most menacing tone he could possible conceive. He looked around to see Zafo pointing his weapon at his man, and Jakireth savagely beating the other one after he had tried to get up and run away.

"ANSWER ME!," the muddy Sargeant demanded. Giovanni cocked his fist back and readied a blow.  The only sound he could hear was the cool rush of the water and the rustling of the vegetation in the marshlands.

"Im just a technician... I didn't ask to be put here," sobbed Zafo's man.

"What did you say?" asked Zafo in a low voice.  He reached down for the man's neck to find that there wasn't a dog tag.  He inspected the dead rebel's bag only to find a vibroblade and some circuit boards.

"What the hell's going on..." asked Jakireth, noticeably nervous.

"That explains why they didn't have thermal imaging..." said Zafo before hitting his captured prey with the butt of his rifle. "...or why they didn't even bother to put up a fight."

Giovanni spat on the ground. "We can't leave witnesses, you know that."

"I KNOW." retorted Zafo. "Gag them, put 'em on their sled, radio the patrol boat and tell them we captured some rebels."

"And the body?"

"Toss it in the river," said Zafo coldly. "Send his widow a medal some other day."

Giovanni took his shin off of the rebel's chest and then struck him with his forearm. The three dragoons loaded the Rebel technicians onto their state-of-the-art sled and paddled back to the patrol boat.

The sled skidded across the dark waters towards the patrol ship. It made no sound, save the light crashing of the small waves upon the sleek metal. A small pile of drooping mud had formed at the Senior Sergeants feet. He shifted his gaze from the hush water to the three captured rebel technicians.

"They aren't telling us everything." Zafo muttered quietly to Jakireth, who was standing to his right.

"Well, duh." Jak let out mockingly.

"I want either you or Gio to go through with some...interrogation...once we get back to the ship." whispered Zafo, crossing his arms over his chest. His glare remained fixed on the three captured technicians. Their eyes were filled with the fear of uncertainty.

"As they should be..."

Before long, they were along side the patrol ship. Once they had transferred the terror struck prisoners onto the patrol boat Giovanni approached Zafo;

"And what are we going to do about that thing?" He pondered, waving his arm at the floating platform.

"Tie it to the back of the patrol ship for now...I'm sure we can figure out a use for it. If we get into any trouble, we can always just cut the ropes."

The Dragoons nodded as he headed off to fetch some rope.

"Bryan!" Summoned Zafo, "I want you to look through the equipment of our little guests. See if you can find any way to use it to our advantage."

"Yes, Sir!" The Private snapped as he ran off.

Zafo scanned across the river with a pair of electro binoculars as each soldier carried on with their assigned task.

"Zafo," called Vint from the communications cabin, "Come take a look at this."

The screen seemed relatively normal, save for two obscure readings. They were moving, but too slowly for fish.

"Think it's some of them?"

"Very well could be." Zafo replied, fiddling with a broken switch. "Try scanning on different modes and frequencies and tell me what you find."

The Assistant Squad Leader stepped out of the small room and out onto the deck. He gazed out into the darkness, desperately trying to pick out any sign of new republic forces. They were out there. Stifled screams were heard coming from where the technicians were being interrogated. Zafo anxiously awaited Vint's update as he pondered solutions to the under-water menaces...

"Do try to contain yourselves, gentleman, you're disturbing the wildlife," Jakireth whispered into the ear of the nearest captive, driving the electrically charged hilt of his neuronic whip into his back.

The reclusive engineer let a series of screams erupt from his lungs, conveniently concealed by the pressed durasteel of the small room's door.

"You see..." He said slowly, thumbing the activation switch of his personal weapon, turning the dull hum of energy into a minor hiss as the blue light flowing over the cord disappated. He then twisted it with his fingers, moving silently about the room, "Your kind have caused me a hell of alot of struggle throughout the years... I might just see fit to make you three endure what display of vengeance I need for your people; the friends lost, security jumbled... it's all on you now."

"But it doesn't have to turn out that way," Giovanni added, "We have a mission to complete...and you might have something that would work in our favor."

Jakireth nodded, stopping suddenly and turning to face the wall. He spoke over his shoulder:

"Besides...doesn't it seem a bit obvious? A group of technicians going for a swim to jump into a firefight? No, it doesn't work like that. How about this..." At this he spun around, a smile slowly falling over his face.

The black haired technologist that was closest to the Corporal wimpered, a tear falling from his left eye.

"Instead of facing whatever event of death we decide upon, how about we just end up giving you a chance? Let's say: we drop you back into the swamp you appeared from without pursuit...save for a few dozen sonic and pulse grenades? This way, we get to see how fast you boys can put on the after-burners. Mainly...you have a choice between certain death, and probable death. All we need is some juicy bits from back home..."

One of the jailed men shook slightly from his position at his knees, arms raised and crossed behind his neck from the bindings. He spoke softly:

"I...please...I have a wife...child..."

There's always a family... Gio thought absently, still staring down the Rebels.

"What more can you ask then: to perhaps see them again?"

He nodded, and despite the shock and dismay of his comrades...sang like a bird.

After picking up key points from their captive's information, Jakireth and Giovanni placed a stun pad at the base of every engineer's skull, placing them in a suspended coma until a plan to dispose of them arose.

"Zaf?" The Sergeant ahead of Jakireth asked, aiming his question at the ASL tweaking his binoculars.

"We did get some info from the boys... And you know the special forces we were briefed on?"

He nodded, waiting for the next phase of the statement to come:

"Apparently, they dislike dry land..."

A stream of curses followed Jak's statement.

"So it is them."

Zafo motioned for Jak to follow him into the communications cabin when his only response was a confused stare. Vint pointed to the obscure readings about a hundred yards west of the patrol ship, which had grown from two to three.

"Jak," Zafo began, turning to the Corporal, "That rifle of yours...do you think you can pick them off from above the water?"

"I might..." The Dragoon replied, "But we may need to get a bit closer."

The Senior Sergeant nodded before letting out a stream of orders for action against the submerged enemy;

"Jak, ready your rifle. Once we get closer, try and see if you can take them out."

"If not?" the Corporal inquired while turning to pick up his rifle.

"Then Gio and I are back in the water."

Gio seemed eager to get back into the water whereas Bryan seemed much less enthusiastic.

"You heard the briefing, these guys are tougher than the New Republic forces we are used to fighting." The Private protested.

"They still need to be stopped." Gio stated. It was just that simple.

"Vint, I need you to stick in the communications cabin and monitor the surrounding areas. If you see the situation getting sticky, use the radio to contact me on my comlink. Remember, only in an emergency."

"Bryan, I need you to scout out the water for more of those floating...things. We can't forget about them." The Private nodded. He had already learned that formalities weren't something the Dragoons were particularly into, especially on missions.

"Let's do this." Finished Zafo as he brought the boat to life. He moved the craft at a speed much to slow for his liking, but it was the element of surprise which could win them the skirmish. After a couple minutes of silently gliding across the water, Zafo felt a pat on his shoulder.

"I'm in range."

Sporting a tilted sniper rifle, Jakireth walked over to Zafo, giving the ok. The distance limits on the gun were in the clear, and his squad leader nodded, bringing the ship to a stop a few hundred yards away from the dots on the thermals. Vint was still locked contently in the boat's mobile ComStation, and the remaining three were awaiting water dispatch, should the need arise.

"I got 'em lined up..." The Corporal said softly, letting one hand drop from the forward grip to point to the people he was addressing; his eyes were still locked within the viewfinder.

"Go when you're ready..." Gio whispered from behind the outer partition, preparing to spring over.

Jakireth nodded at no one in particular, finding a stagnant patch of blur in his heat imager. The only movement was below the torso; apparently the motion of legs to keep their position the same.

Perfect target; undeniable alignment:

He pulled the trigger.

The figure on the screen shot back slowly, his actions showing his surprise. The bullet traveled at a constant speed at the fluid entrance, and gained velocity as it raced downward. As contact was made, a flurry of darker red ran about his rifle's scope.

"Man one, eliminated!" Jakireth yelled over the lowering sound and recoil from the powerful weapon, his hands working furiously to reload with a remarkable time.

The three who had been patiently waiting near the edge of the hull flew over, hitting the water with a thunderous splash. The special forces team farther down the river broke in all directions, and Giovanni sped through the water quickly and galantly, going for his first target. Zafo and Bryan came up behind him a tad slower.

With the final click from his rifle as the 'OK', Jakireth looked down and found his aim, taking another single shot. The victim engaged in the same antics as the recent one, and the death toll hit two.

At the obvious demise of their team, the remaining couple of opposing soldiers took off; going farther away...and fast. They disappeared around the nearest bend, with the water-bound trio in pursuit.

"Vint! Get the engines running!" He yelled, running to the Communications booth.

Zafo's body stiffened at the sudden change in temperature. During the first couple of seconds, he found it difficult to propel himself forwards. However, once his muscles adjusted the liquidy coolness of the water, he propelled himself forwards, his surroundings growing darker and darker. The trooper activated his goggles, the night vision and heat sensors giving him a much better awareness of the area. Off in the distance, he saw the fleeing aquatic troopers. Giovanni was gaining on them. Bryan and Zafo forced themselves to keep up. Zafo didn't doubt Giovanni, but two against one, especially under these circumstances didn't promise good results.

Suddenly, within seconds, the special ops troops had re-united and taken cover behind an outcropping of rock of the river bottom. Giovanni cautiously slowed his approach. The excellent swimmer waited a couple of seconds for his fellow Dragoons to catch up with him.

The second the three united, a hail of fire erupted from where the special ops troops had taken cover. The rounds narrowly missed their mark as the three Dragoons swam with all their might towards the riverbed to take cover.

It was at this point that Zafo began to grow a tad nervous. The hostiles they were engaging were incredibly trained and at a significant advantage. Giovanni motioned for three Dragoons to try and make it to the surface. However, the second they made a move, more firepower prevented them. This time, the pockets of energy darted through the water from three different locations.

"Shit. They're surrounding us."

With extreme caution, Zafo poked his head around the side of their hiding place. Sure enough, he caught a glimpse of an aquatic troop swimming from one cover location to another closer one. It was becoming harder and harder for Zafo to keep himself from floating upwards.

Every couple of seconds Zafo would peek over, and just catch a glimpse of a limb of a special ops trooper growing closer and closer.

Suddenly, the ground shook and pieces of rock flew through the air.

"Grenades!"

At that instant, as if only now being aware of the danger the three Dragoons faced, light emitted from the patrol boat which was now nearly overhead.

"Of course!" Zafo smacked himself in the head. "The sub-boat repeater!

Whoever was manning the turret was successful in knocking out two of the three hostile units, or so Zafo guessed...or hoped, for return fire was only coming from one direction. Looking above the rock to see where it was coming from, Zafo motioned for the three Dragoons to follow. As they approached the rock they believed the Special Ops troop to be hiding behind, fire from the patrol boat ceased. After a couple of seconds, a head popped over the rock and was greeted by fire from three separate rifles.

Not wasting a second to get out of the deadly waters, the trio swam upwards as fast as they could before more aquatic troopers could arrive.

The rays of light shimmering and washing over him and the riverbed.  The tiny bubbles of water rising up from the silt that ran between his fins and gloved fingers.  The concusion blasts sending waves through the water.  The tiny rocks coming down from the surface.

There wasn't a doubt in his mind. There was no other place in the galaxy he would rather be.

He surfaced slowly to catch his breath in time to see a rebel troop running away in the midst of water and rocks and mud flying from all directions.  He couldn't make out if he was injured or not, but he could not make it to his friends.  It would compromise their mission if only one of their soldiers got back to relay information.

Giovanni rose up and uncovered the rest of his body with Zafo following in close sucession. The two crashed through the water and onto the river bed, running into the small clearing of marsh grass and other vegetation that the surviving New Republic soldier had thrashed through.  Through the darkness the two dragoons were hot on his trail.  Back on the river bed, the boat along with the rest of the squad kept watch or any other that might unluckily come knocking on death's door.

"I can barely see a damn thing," said Giovanni, "catching anything on the thermal?"

"I think so..." said Zafo, further surveying the scene. "I can make out a spot thats slightly hotter than the others, im just not sure what to make of it."

Giovanni activated his heat vision and took a look at it as well.  The two stopped and crouched to see what they could make out of the weird temperature reading.

"It could be one of the local fauna... Or maybe its just a..." Zafo was cut off by a stifled gasp from Giovanni.

"Shit..."

Zafo looked at him quizically looking for an answer. Giovanni merely pointed in the direction of the reading.  It was getting brighter.  The once blue green hazy blot on the lens was now an aura of orange and yellow, and it was no longer one blot, but four.

"You saw what happened in the water."

Giovanni's nod was subtle and hardly noticeable in the dark.

"Run."

Without loosing another second, the duo began fleeing through the small shrubbery that grew in the marshy region of the river. The plants whipped against Zafo's face as he didn't even take the time to push them out of the way. Once they had separated the distance between themselves and the enemy, the two Dragoons slowed down.

The patrol boat and the presence of the Dragoons was no longer a secret to the four troops chasing Giovanni and Zafo through the marsh.

"Bring the boat this way, quickly, we've got hostiles." Zafo shouted into the comlink. He wanted to make sure they heard him; he didn't want to have to risk repeating it. In response, a faint growl was heard off to his right as the boat accelerated from its rest position.

"Be ready to retreat. One quickly multiplied into four, and it's likely they aren't the only ones."

Gio nodded before taking a couple of paces and taking cover in a particularly thick patch of marsh plant.

Zafo shot a random shot in the direction from which the came. He didn't want the New Republic forces to lose their trail, after all, they'd only get back to base and inform the others...assuming they hadn't done so already.

Zafo's single shot was returned as a spray of fire emitting from many rifles. A small object soared through the air from where Giovanni was hiding. A loud explosion echoed across the relative calm of the river. The enemy replied with grenades of their own, some exploding too close for comfort.

Through the series of explosions, the engine of the boat was now roaring louder than ever. Seems like whoever was piloting it deemed stealth un-necessary at this point.

"Fall Back!" Cried Zafo over another explosion just fifty yards away.

The two dragoons darted in the opposite direction of their enemies. Sometimes, being a good soldier was knowing when to run. These New Republic Special Ops forces were unlike any foe Zafo faced in a long time. They knew better than to simply charge into the darkness of the marsh and were good at concealing their positions. Zafo threw a glance over to the water and saw the patrol boat about twenty meters away.

Giovanni and Zafo sprinted for the ship as a hail of fire erupted all around them...

"Vint, bring 'er in as close as possible!"

"Are you kidding? I'm scraping the bank!"

"Do it better!"

The exchange of commands and curses between the two patrollers increased quantitively as Bryan, Zafo, and Giovanni made their way back to the boat at top speed. Jakireth swore he'd never seen any of the sprinting 'Goons move as fast as they were now, but it was apparent that when one is being chased, it gives a nice kick of motivation.

As the Private manning the controls edged the ship along the river's side, the pacing Corporal nearly flew backwards; jumping at the grenade launcher positioned at the rear.

In what he considered a spurt of brilliance, Jakireth flipped on the forward spot-light of the weapon, projecting a blinding glow of white into the distinct and cold darkness. With that, he made a hand motion to his right, and the three troopers quickly trailing the ground dodged his described path.

At that point, it was simply a matter of how many he good hit at once.

The light had already disabled the Rebel forces partially, their eyes not adjusting to a change in visual perception...or the burning of their retinas. Jakireth thought good to take the opportunity from their slow in advance to unleash a volley of explosives.

And he did.

Thumbing the 'launch' switch several times, the cannon erupted with fiery orange; eight burning projectiles rushing outward to meet their targets.

The surface area of the designated barrage was devastated within seconds, and the gunner even noticed a few bodies thundering upward from the blasts. In the same motion, the trio of grounded 'Goons tossed themselves onto their method of transporation.

"Vint, we got the boys!"

Giovanni tumbled into the deck of the patrol boat and laid flat on his back facing up.  Besides the deafening sounds, the rocking of the boat, the smell of sulfide and metal, the screams and piercing shrieks and of course the fact that the three veteran troopers in the group had just narrowly escaped a brutal execution at the hands of highly trained enemy troopers, it was a pretty serene sight.  Somewhere in the background, the sound of water rushing cooled his senses. He could hear the coolness of the water. See it trickling through reeds and rocks.  The night sky was pitch black. No moon, no stars. It almost made him forget he had been grazed by a blaster bolt on his way into the boat.

Giovanni snapped to and cringed. He brought his hand to his right bicep and felt the raw wound.

"Get us the hell out of here," he heard someone say.

Vint immediately responded, turning the water craft a complete 180 degrees and turning the engines on as hot as they could run. Giovanni sat up and looked around. Jak had sit up against the outer railing like him. He looked at Gio's arm and showed a look of concern.

"It's nothing. Bastard shot must've grazed me."

Giovanni grabbed the medical pack from Jak and began to patch himself up primitively.

"No doubt that little display has attracted a larger force. We need to hit them hard, and we dont have the luxury of time or the element of surprise at our hands anymore. With only a few hours of night left we just need to hold them out.  They wont cross in the open. Its suicide." Zafo sat down and continued to draw out a mission plan in  his mind.

"Maybe we can use the technicians..." suggested Vint.

"Just what i was thinking..."

Zafo bashed open the door to the small dark room containing their captives. Emitting a growl from the depths of his throat, a large glob of spit hit the ground at the feet of one of the technicians. Their gazes met, Zafo's forced a gaze of rage, cowering the technician before his feet.

"He's afraid. Now he's right where I want him...

"You are a technician, right?" The Senior sergeant barked, keeping his menacing gazed fixed upon the technician's terrified form.

"Y..Y.yes." The technician stammered clinging to himself in utter fear of what the squad could do to him, should he not chose to cooperate.

"What were your objectives in going across the river?" Zafo demanded, trying to be as menacing as possible.

"I don't know."

"Futile."

"Well I don't believe you." Zafo said calmly, drawing his pistol from it's holster. Then gold plating glimmered in pale light.

The technician's eyes locked onto the pistol waving back in forth at Zafo's side. Even though the lighting was quite weak, Zafo could see the beads of sweating flowing down his face.

"I said I don't know."

Zafo threw the technician a cold stare before raising his pistol and releasing a pocket of energy which struck just inches above his head. Only a squeal managed to escape from the technician's mouth as he toppled over into the fetal position.

"You and I both know that's bullshit." Zafo growled, shoving the barrel of the pistol into the technician's cheek.

"You can be guaranteed that this next shot will splatter your brain all over these walls if you don't chose to cooperate. Now I'm going to ask you one last time...What was your mission!"

Unable to tolerate the tension or danger his comrade faced, one of the technician's sitting beside him blurted out;

"We are a team of communications technicians. Our mission was to set up a top secret, incredibly secure communications antennae that would allow our forces to communicate freely in the vicinity without any fear of interception. It's new technology."
Silence swept the room for a brief second as the Dragoons absorbed this information before the technician who gave in emitted fear filled sobs;

"Please, just don't hurt us."

Feeling pity towards those who's life he just threatened, Zafo ended his façade of the typical angry, brutal soldier. Lowering his pistol, he spoke;

"I promise that neither I, nor my crew will hurt you unless you give us a really good reason. Unfortunately, what happens once we hand you over to the authorities, matters aren't in our hands anymore."

The man's sobbing ceased. His grateful eyes met with Zafo, who turned away. Sympathy was not something with which a soldier wanted to ally himself.

"If you help us out, I'll put in a good word for you." Zafo stated as an idea came to his head.

"How so?" The techie inquired.

"Can you set up the transmitter on the back of this boat?"

An affirmative nod followed.

"Can you hook it up to the communications deck on the boat so we can hear all transmissions passing through?"

Another nod.

"Do it." Zafo commanded, then after a brief second added; "Your lives depend on it."

The crew scurried to life and towards their equipment.

"Radio your base when you are done, tell them everything ran smoothly and the antennae is up."

With this advantageous device being set up on the boat, the Dragoons looked out across the water for any sign of crossing New Republic troops...

Giovanni sat quietly with a smirk on his face as the technicians scurried out to do their task. He stared at Zafo, who turning around as he left asked "What?"

Giovanni began to clap.

"All part of the job," replied his ASL humbly before walking out onto the deck of the boat.

Daylight was quickly approaching.  If they could get the antenna up and running they might be able to catch word of the rebels plan in time to launch and counter attack.  If not theyd have no choice but to wait things out and hope that the rebels wouldnt be so stupid as to cross the river in broad daylight, as it would pose problems to them as well as the Dragoons. All of this was coursing through Giovanni's mind. The close call the night before had been an eye opener. These rebels were good, and taking them lightly would be a fatal mistake.

Now back in his underarmor, Giovanni stepped out onto the deck and surveyed the riverside. The creeping sunrise made it a bit easier to see his surroundings, and the vegetation and water washed in a sea of orange and grey was quite a motivating scene. Then again, so was the sight of 3 scared technicians, working a job for their lives.

Giovanni thought about breaking radio silence and asking Evani how her voyage was faring, but he'd just have to wait until they crossed paths later on in the day. Giving the rebels a radio signal would allow them to pinpoint their location and blast them out of the water. Regardless, he had confidence in his squad leader and he was sure she was doing just as well as them, if not better.

The sunlight was breaking through the morning mist now and without anything to do, jakireth retired and went to get some well deserved rest. Giovanni however, had been running on stim packs since 1900 that night, and was restless.

Maybe some food will do me right... he pondered. Grabbing a ration pack, he sat down on the front of the boat behind the technicians. Maybe they'd work faster if they knew he was there.

Jenny prepped her weapons as she got on to the boat, it was only 2, since she didn't want to bring too much, in case Evi had weapons for her, DC-17 Interchangable Combat System and the Treppus 2 vibroblade. Perfect for this mission and a trademark of what she came from, a hell of a training mission in which she killed her own clone. Jenny heard Evi's briefing as she prepared for her part. She followed Hell and heard her telling Jenny about the controls, hoping for a better job, but deciding that if this is the best she gets, it's going to have to do.

"Yes, right away," replied Jenny, giving a small salute before she turned to the job at hand.

And turned to the job at hand, she did. For right when Jenny sat in the driver's seat, she started the engines and on to getting them to patrolling in them as far east as possible. While the boat got going, she turned to the other matters, the sound and the radar activity. They were both relatively easy to control with, if you had been working with this kind of system for a long time, she used to drive her parent's boat, which had relatively the same kind of system. The thought of it bought tears to her eyes.

"Jenny, you okay?" Jenny snapped out of her thoughts, as she heard and saw Evi standing by the doorway, staring at Jenny. She quickly replied, with a bit of a bad voice:

"Fine, just getting over bad memories. The sound should be a bit low and the radar activity won't show much for the rebels. How's the outside?"

"Just great, no activity, hopefully Garet and Jacen will pick up something when he gets down checking on the underwater sensors." Evi answered and then asked:

"Your parents? Is that what you cried about?" Evi asked slowly, realizing Jenny's intentions for crying.

"Yes, it was, the clone training thing made me go back to that, one of the things that you can never forget." Jenny explained while also said, letting Evi go: "You should get back to watching the outside."

Jenny slowly brought the patrol boat to a halt and turned off the engine as everyone gathered up their equipment and prepaired for rebel troops. The sound of nature in the background and the consistant tapping of the waves against the boat seemed unnerving.

"Not much more to wait.", whispered Evani, as she walked around the ship checking up on the team.

They were in position and waited inpatiently for some action. The sun had almost commpletely set and Garet reached for his binoculars and switched them over to nightvision as he scanned the banks.

"Where the hell are they?" ,Garet complained in a low mumble.

Jenny gave a yell over to Evani from inside the cabin. Evani rushed over with a puzzled look on her face.

"What is it Jennabelle?", she said hastely. Jenny pointed to the sonar screen at a small figure indicating that something was comming directly towards them.

"Somethings comming in, and fast!" said Jenny.

"Where?", Evani demanded.

"Starbored side of the ship.", Jenny quickly replied.

Evani rushed out onto the deck and began yelling orders, "Stations! Their comming."

Evani picked up her rifle and aimed directly at the waters surface.

"Three Hundred Meters and closing!", Jenny yelled from inside the cabin.

Slowly Evani loaded a round into her weapon and eased her finger onto the trigger.

"I've got a present waiting for you, Rebel Scum!", Evani whispered to herself.

"One Hundred Meters!", Jennys voice shouted out again."

Evani could see the shadowing figure now. It was closing in on the ship right where Jenny had told her. She gripped the rifle closer waiting to shoot the minute the figure broke the waters surface. The figure came closer, and Evani could see its entire body now. She had the perfect shot and she couldn't wait. With a large splash the figure broke the surface of the water and Evani fired a shot. KnightWind yelled out in pain as he grabbed onto the boat swearing.

"Who in the hell shot at me?", complained Wind.

He rolled into the boat and the team rushed in weapons pointed directly at him. Garet moved in and grabbed Wind by his wetsuit.

"Who the hell are you?'' damanded Evani. KnightWind looked at his arm noticing that his suit and been torn at the shoulder from
Evanis shot.

"Nice welcome. I'm PFC KnightWind. I was transfered to DD shortly after you guys were disbatched. Had one hell of a time finding you though.".

Jacen grabbed at Winds tags, "Their Imperial alright." she said.

"I've been trying to contact you for the past hour, wheres Evani?" , Wind questioned as he slowly removed his helmet.

"That'd be me. We're in radio silence.", Evani replied.

"Back to your stations everyone.", Evani ordered.

Evani motioned for Wind to enter the cabin and so he did. Once there she rebrifed Wind on the mission and assigned him to his post. Now that things were settled again the team could focus on the mission. The welcome party would have to wait till the mission was over. Wind knew that and was more worried about getting through this mission than anything else. Like most of the Dragoons, this was the first time KnightWind had encountered rebels with this type of training. Never the less, he was determind to do his best for the squad.

Staring across the water Evani jerked awake toppling her self over the ledge of the patrol boat in the water. Spluttering about she heard rapid footfall tap against the deck of the boat as Garet ran to railings of the boat. Stifling a small snicker he helped her from the water.
"At least you're awake"
"Yeah, but we've bin patrolling this place for hours now and nothing. You went under a few times nothing. Jenny says nothing. There is nothing here." Evani muttered when her feet found it self firmly placed again.
"I was about to wake you anyhow, Jenny caught far of sounds of the sonar radar. Sounded to me like shots and grenades. Either way, it aint the nature speaking"

Evani silently pondered on Garet's report. It wasn't like they had anything else left do except take a risk.
"Take us around, full speed, boosters, whatever. Get to the other as soon as possible." She ordered crisply as she started drying her hair by means of wrenching the water from the thick strands.

It took them most of the night returning upstream. It was near sunrise when Garet stumbled on the first sign of some type of fight that might have taken place previously.
"How long do you reckon its bin dead?" asked Wind when Evani prodded the body with the hilt of her whip as she leaned through the railings towards the waters dangerously close. Its head was horribly ripped apart by gunfire, and judging by the scrapes and cuts across the opens patches of his body; he was killed in the Marsh Lands.

"A few hours at most. Keep er' going Jen!" Jowak grasped Evani's arm firmly and pulled her back to the safety of the boat. At Evani's command the engine roared back into speed. Everyone was waiting edgily. No need to go about silence anymore. Everyone knew where there was an enemy amidst him or her. It was all now a cat and mouse game in the dark. The night sky was quickly losing its blankets of shadows as the northern sun made its way up the horizon.

"Have you tried to get them hold?"
"Couldn't get through, but there is a pretty strong signal pulsing from where they should be. I suggest we keep going, but with caution" Garet suggested as they both spied through the environment with their macrobinoculars. The whirring as the super sensitive lenses focussed in and out quickly stopped when their eyes managed to capture the sigh of an patrol boat up ahead. Though limited by distance, Evani could without problem catch the scratches, blasts, and scorch marks littering the hull of the boat.
Definitely bin busy haven't we, she thought as she readjusted her rifle at the sight.

Jenny lulled the machine down to a gentle drift, silently towards Zafo's boat. She imagined shouts or of some sort, but through the distance it was difficult not to imagine those sounds.
"Jenny, still not getting through?"
"Nope,"
"Gonna climb over I guess" Evani muttered as she lfited her knee from the floor to rest casually on the middle railing.

"Hi Eve! Welcome aboard!" Evani literally jumped at the voice behind her as she clambered from boat to boat. Zafo grinned at her waving with a hand what seemed to clutching a half eaten ration pack. Evani stole a glance at the double mirrored glass to their side. Except for her wet hair, and perhaps a twig poking randomly from her head she seemed squeaky clean in comparison with Giovanni who seemed to have just emerged from primitivism.
"Why didn't anyone respond to my messages?" she asked when calmed down. Nodding a yes to  Zafo's offer of a ration pack for her, they continued to where Jakireth and Giovanni were in the task of supervising.
"Ah&.remind me to whack Vint, he was supposed to be listing in for us" he muttered.
"With all the stuff these technicians came up with, I think he got a bit fluttered around the controls."
"Either way, mind filling me in about this?" Evani cocked her head to the side motioning with a curious glance to their captives' side.
"Oh&they. Doing their mission under our supervision. Setting us an antenna up. If it fails they are dead. If it works we hear about the rebels' whereabouts." Muttered Jakireth. He took a deep swig from his flask, whether it was alcohol or water, Evani didn't know.
"Good, guess, all we have to do now is wait"

***4 hours later***

"It's done?" asked Zafo sharply crossing his arms as they studied the small contraption set up by the captive. Nodding vigorously they all backed away when Giovanni and Jakireth stepped forward for further inspection.
"Lets test it out" muttered Jakireth, though his demeanour remained suspicious. Evani noticed his hand never strayed to far from his thigh holsters.

In a matter of minutes Jakireth had the mechanics sedated while Evani and the rest of squad huddled about the ComStation. Giovanni quickly flipped the notches and switches before they were met with a radio static. His hand searched with the knob for the right channel till voices sounded dimly through the crackles.
"So&lets see. We lost two sleds so far. Technicians haven't made contact in a few hours&ship next sled at&."
"Are you getting this Zafo?" asked Jakireth as he walked in. Zafo gave a silent nod, his full attention directed at the small speaker box in the midst.
"Have you find the other patrol boats yet?&There is one waiting outside the bay. Affin imps. Its impossible for them to have hit us so close&ome.  And then there is one scouting further down stream."
Whoever the oblivious speaker was kept rambling continuously about the same topic. Evan I kept the recording though with a sigh.  She kept her ears along with the rest of the squad pitched for anything, which might be of concern.

"Launch four, get another four under their boat ad wh---"
"Get ready for action people, they are sending people out&fast." Muttered Jakireth jumping from his seat loading his rifle already.
"G, Jak and Z. You had combat experience underwater. Track these guys to their hole. It sounds like we are right on their spot. The rest of us keep them at bay here." Ordered Evani. The squad quickly peeled out from the small cabin leaving only Vint behind. Jowak, Garet, Jenny and Jacen have already moved everything from their boat to Zafo's boat and rigged the boat to a time bomb as Evani ordered.
"You got the distance controls here?" she asked the wookiee who had the repetitive grenade launcher slung over his shoulder as it was a rifle.
He handed her the black square device which she in turn hastily activated.
"Ok Zafo, you tell me where I send this boat," she muttered when he joined her at the side,
"Sure thing, Jak, Gio and I thought it would be best to try and get all the rats out. I think we can call Air Force in to hit them while they are outside." Said Zafo as he pulled his swimming gear over his face.

After the near death experience Zafo and Giovanni faced the last time they dove into the water was still very fresh in their memories so neither were really eager to go in.

"All part of the job." Zafo thought as he reluctantly threw himself overboard.

The trio swam a short distance before the blank heat sensors picked up faint signals, and lots of them. They were spread out, but at one point to the right of the Dragoons appeared to contain many more readings than the others. With a wave of his hand, the Senior Sergeant motioned for the other two to rise to the surface. Once their heads broke the barrier to the breathable air, Zafo spoke;

"We nearly lost ourselves to three of them earlier, we aren't risking it."

The three climbed into the patrol boat. Evani approached Zafo with eagerness, fiddling with the remote control in her hands.

"Where to?" She asked, a twisted grin spreading across her face.

Zafo pointed off into the direction where it seemed most of the underwater Special Ops troops were coming from.

By now, all of the important equipment had been transferred over to Zafo's boat. The abandoned vessel sprang to life. Without the weight of equipment or a crew, the boat sliced through the water with ease, speeding towards its destination.

As the ship made it's way towards the northern bank, bolts of energy erupted from countless places on the water.

"You see that?" Giovanni asked, "I'm guessing those are all troops on those mysterious platforms."

"I think he's right." Jak piped in "I hope you guys haven't forgotten about calling in the air force..."

A deafening roar echoed for what was probably miles as the bomb rigged patrol boat took a violent transformation into fire, debris and energy. One of the missile turrets on the northern bank must have been within firing range.

"There goes that plan..." Evani sighed, throwing the control mechanism into the water.

"There are too many..." Zafo let out with distress. "We'll all loose our lives if we try and hold them off out here."

"I know..." Sighed Evani. She wasn't keen on the idea of running from the enemy but sometimes you had no choice.

"Send us full speed to the southern bank!" Evani shouted so whoever was conducting the boat would hear.

"Vint, Contact the Air force, give them our location and call in for an air strike."

The ship jumped to life and began speeding towards the friendly bank. Just as they loaded themselves, their captives and equipment all off the boat, the sound of roaring engines blocked out all other sounds. Explosions began erupting from various points on the water as the pilot's took out many of the crossing New Republic troops with speed and accuracy.

Just as concern over the underwater troops began to arise, a voice broke out from Evani's comlink;

"Dark Dragoons, your assistance was great, but you have been re-assigned."

[OCC: Echk. The post isn't too good, but our mission needed to be concluded. This end's the location's first mission with the Dark Dragoons. /OCC]

The first rays of dawn seeped through the towering clouds of smoke, a result of the air strike called in just fifteen minutes earlier. The squad lay on the friendly river bank, taking a couple of minutes rest before they would be given their next assignment.

"Guys, I have an announcement to make." Evani said as she stood from her seated position. The whole squad drifted out of their post-combat daze and fixed their gazes upon the Sergeant.

"I am stepping down as your Squad Leader."

There was a brief second of silence as the words sunk into each soldier. Before she could be hounded with questions of why, she continued to speak;

"I want a bit of a change, I unno..." Her gaze shifted from her loyal troops to the ground. "Congrats Z." As she spoke these last words, her eyes darted over to Zafo. A lightheaded feeling of sorts washed across him.

"Did she just?...Yes..."

Zafo was nearly speechless as he rose up in front of his comrades. The Dark Dragoons was the only squad he had ever known, to now be their leader was an incredible honour. The change was extremely un-expected and scrambled whatever Zafo was thinking about.

"Guys..." Zafo began, feeling incredibly speechless at the moment. "You don't understand how much this means to me..."

Saving him from whatever was to come next, a speeder bike bearing the imperial flag was spotted approaching the Squad's location from the direction of Montellian Serat. The man brought the bike to a steady stop just a couple of meters away from the Dragoons. He quickly dismounted from the bike and trotted over to Zafo and Evani.

"Sergeant Evani," the man began, panting "I am sorry, but I must relieve Sergeant Jakireth from your command. He has been appointed as Assistant Squad Leader to Nightstalker squad, congratulations Soldier."

A smile spread across the Sergeant's face. Such a command position was what he deserved. Although they had not worked together for long, Zafo was sad to see Jak go.

"Zafo, Evi, Gio, and the rest of you guys, I wish you the best of luck. I'm sorry I had to leave in such a rush, I didn't see it coming either."

"As for the rest of you," the man continued "you are to head eastwards down the river towards the city Montellian Serat. Orders will be awaiting you as you pull into the small port."

Jakireth shook hands with soldiers he had fought along side and everyone said their goodbyes. Zafo and Jak gave out one final "Goodbye and Goodluck" before he hoped aboard the speeder bike with the man and sped off towards the city.

The squad's spirit seemed dampened by Jak's sudden departure.

"What now...Sir." Garet inquired with a grin.

"You heard the man, we head towards Montellian Serat. Let's do it quickly though, I don't want to spend any more time than necessary in these waters."

The squad boarded back into the patrol boat. Zafo brought the ship to life as all other Dragoons assumed defensive positions on deck.

"Hold on tight." Zafo said with a snicker as he gunned the boat eastwards to Montellian Serat...
