Star Trek doesn't have Darth Vader.

That should be enough reason to win.

Darth Vader : Calrissian. Take the princess and the Wookie to my ship.

Lando : You said they'd be left at the city under my supervision.

Darth Vader : I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.

He is way cool.

Star Trek is to science fiction like Elvis is to Rock & Roll, neither one started it but both made a very big impact.

no, there's no chance for Star Trek to match Star Wars.

I think there are some pros to star trek, there seems to be alot more "stratagey" evident in Star Trek space battles however they couldnt compare a person to person combat worth beans to star wars. i still have to part with Star Wars though, at least they have star fighters.

How would you handle the the cloaking device that the Klingons or was it the Romulans had?  Most of the Star Wars pilots used visual or line of sight aiming ( I think).  How about transporting a squad of Klingons on a sucide mission on a Star Destroyer?  Never, ever under estimate your enemy.
I thought I'd throw something in to make the discussion a little spicy.

If I make a lot of spelling and grammer mistakes just ignore them.  I wish we had spell check on this site.  I made C's in English anyway.

The cloaking device is really the only thing that Star Trek has better than Star Wars. The only cloaking device that the Empire could come up with made the ships double-blind.

Don't forget that nifty cloaking device darth maul used.

Oh and even though I might make myself an outcast I think that Star-Trek is really good but in another way. I think it depends on what you want of a series and personally I say I like them both, maybe just because they are so different.

targeting computers maybe;

and if i remember right at one point there where properly functioning cloaking devices in use, but some criticle mineral or something ran out and so they became very rare, all before the tme of the empire.

Would've been useful for Qui Gon to just get "beamed out" at the battle with Maul... but that's all I see useful from the Land of Trekkies.

Yeah, that's true. And the mineral was a rare crystal from a volcanic planet somewhere between the Unknown Regions/Outer Rim border that *apparently* got destroyed around the time before "The Phantom Menace."

I don't know much about Star Trek, actually almost nothing at all but I'm pretty sure Star Wars has a more complex stories. And I've always wondered. Is it that hard to shoot without a targeting computer? And even if it is I would shoot anyway, even randomly if I see millions of TIE fighters flying at me. And Darth Maul's ship is cool. Qui-Gon would have died right there on Tatooine... I like Qui-Gon and all, but he kind of sucks compared to the other Jedi Masters. Even Obi-Wan did better than him and he wasn't even trained as much at that time.

Uh, TIE Fighters are on our side. Yes, targeting computers do help if you're aiming for a single target, but if you're flying through a storm of Rebel fighters, firing at random does help a little.

The numbers are completely unsupported except in one novel where the author made a comment about 200 gigaton turbolaser impacts and for some reason that number has stuck even though if the impacts were that great the observer even though they were a major main character would have been vaporized.  On top of that if ISD's were pumping that kind of firepower then there would be 0 point in a Deathstar, let alone 2.  Why build a planet killer that consumes so many resources that you could build a fleet instead with each individual ship having the same capability to render a planet uninhabitable?

Something else the authors have overlooked is the obvious bragging about speeds and the possibility of not showing every minute of travel times.  Even in the novels it says SW ships are known to make micro jumps to get to targets.

Even though it is 90% opinion and bad science I'd probably still put my money on the Galactic Empire.  I know the author says he is using sources but he is only using sources that suit his arguements and disregarding everything else, especially the contradictory evidence.

The problem here is probably that Star Trek actually tries to keep a level of realism.

Pulling some random numbers out doesnt really show anything. Saying that Imperial ships fight from a greaters distance doesnt seem to be supported at all in the films lol.

The Empire would still win, ever see a trained Federation soldier?

God those figures are rediculous, someone somewhere just thought, "now whats a really really big number . . ."

Star Wars Rules! One Jedi or Sith could take a entire ship full of those guys wearing their stupid outfits. Imagine a bunch of trek guys trying to hit a sith with a phaser. Zzzzzzttt! Goodby Trekies! And the ships on trek, as powerfull as they may be, suck. They fire too slowly to dogfight, and they dont have starfighters.  There is no question over who is better.

There are two things which i think would make Trek ships formidable: manuverability, and transporters. All the starships ive seen in star trek can haul ass quickly, this would presumably make up for the lack of starfighters... the tranporters would also be annoying if they could beam onto enemy ships. I never got why they never just beamed a bomb onto enemy ships in Star Trek.
