Cosmic....I need a completely New Avatar. I would like a tie pilot image...but make it comic like, you know, animated. I would also like coming down across the right side of the picture my characters name, 3D letters, but make them stick out.

It could be the wrong size or file type.
If thats the case, you'd open the image in an editor, go to the toolbar, click image, and click "Stretch/Skew" and then begin sizing the image down until you get to an okay size, and then save it as a .gif file. -----------------------

The above directions are for MS Paint for all those who are wondering.
To be more specific, your avatar needs to be no larger than 12k KB in size, and it MUST have the 100x120 pixel dimensions (otherwise you will get a "stretched" look). In order to resize the "drawing board" in MS Paint, you need to go to Image > Attributes > set width to 100 and height to 120 (Pixels/Colors radio buttons checked).
gif format is so-so in quality. JPG is better in quality. If at all possible, go with the JPG file extension - if your file is too large after you save it as a JPG, then you can resave it as a GIF and see what happens. If all else fails, take the image you want and ask someone to resize it for you and optimize it in a JPG format. -----------------------

Here's a thing to keep in mind then. Obviously, as seen now, you don't have many graphics artists in this club to help you with your biweekly (or so) avatar changes. It's hard for them to keep up with such a backup of avatars, and it can get hectic.
My suggestion to you (everyone) is that you find a picture and border that you like, and you stick with it. Look at Kadann, that is probably only the 2nd or 3rd avatar I made for him... 4-5 months ago. The image and border on my avatar, I haven't changed in some months either. So pick a design you want, pic a picture you want, and stick with it. If you want variability as often as twice a week, then it's quite easy to just make your own. -----------------------
