The goal of socialism is to create a classless society in which everything is shared by the community. No one has more money, possesions, prestige, etc than anyone else. The closest anyone one got, in my opinion, was Old Economy Village, near Pittsburgh, PA. It was a religious, communal society in which you were provided with housing, food, and various passtimes as long as you finished your assigned chores. They didn't use money within the community, but squirreled away a fortune through the sale of wine. This they saved, intending to use it to rebuild the Temple of Jeruselum after the Second Coming of Christ. However, Christ didn't come and the community fell apart at the end of the 19th century. -----------------------

Lesse, Capitalism in its pure form, no (trust me, I have a friend who's and Objectivist, I hear Capitalism all day long). Communism, no. Fuedalism, no. Fascism, no. Imperialism, no. Socialism is the only maybe I see. If you could keep it going for several generations, it would become the norm, and would sustain itself. By the way, I believe Communism aims to create a classless society. Hence the name Communes - thats what that place in PA is.
The aim of socialism is for the rich to support the poor, bringing them out of poverty and giving everyone a decent standard of living. You still have classes in socialism - hell, you NEED classes. Without poor people, inflation would spiral out of control and everyone would have no money. -----------------------

Also, if you look into capitalism, you find that it also needs gov't regulation to run smoothly, none of this laissez faire (sp?) stuff that got us into the era of the monopoly -----------------------
