What are some of your favorite stories in the VE?

Inspired by Kami's recent post extolling the virtues of our little Star Wars literary-rpg/club ( The VE: Not just a Hobby.), I thought I'd start a thread where members could post links to their favorite stories other VE folks have written, to build on the sense of community Kami references in her post ("the welcoming and supportive environment" of the VE). With a list of members' favorite stories, new people, and people who aren't very familiar with writers in divisions other than their own (like me), would have a list of recommendations to reference and links to explore, and fans would have a place to acknowledge the efforts of their favorite writers. As Kami said, there are some truly great stories hereabouts, so I ask you: what are some of your favorites? A couple ground rules for posting to the list: 1. Keep it short: say five recommendations maximum to start out with, with links to the stories, and an optional sentence or two about why you like each one. Depending on whether or not this idea catches on, it may make more sense to edit your entry on the list as your recommendations change, rather than posting another entry to the list. 2. Keep it positive: this is a chance to thank your fellow writers for a good read, and introduce other members to work they may not have seen yet, not an opportunity to judge others or their work. Don't rank your choices, or compare writers; just share links to stories you enjoyed. 3. Keep it selfless: the idea is to support others, not to support yourself. Don't link to a story you've written yourself; give kudos to other writers, help guide people to writers from whom you've learned during your time in the VE, and help people find stories by which you've been entertained. 4. Keep it on-topic: this list is meant to encourage even more discussion and activity, but keep those conversations and tangents out of this particular thread, please.

I guess I'll go first. Here are some of my favorites from my recent in-VE reading: I reread the Into the Invisible thread the other day, a run-on story which involved the entire Navy Division. I may be biased, since this story marked my introduction to the VE, but I do think it's a great example of collaborative storytelling. There are some especially exciting battle sequences scattered throughout, with special mention going to Drac's posts commanding the light cruiser Cerulean. Raziel's teaser of his Reborn I: Exchanges is a great read, and a really impressive example of developing your PC through the POV of an NPC. There are fun little stories even being written as mission posts to satisfy the requirements of the Naval Certification and Ancillary Skills programs. Two I've read recently that were quite entertaining were Drac's Scouting post and Scral's post for the first tier of Top Gun. In short, I'm continually impressed by my fellow VE-ers, and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to read, learn, and have fun with you all!

I agree 100% with Embracing the Darkness from Hunter's reply there. By far one of my favs. Two others are The Watchers, part II Which was my fav RAIDERS story which I got to participate in and doesn't really need part one (Who Watches the Watchers) to make sense. and Path to the Numbered Bone A very fun run-on I did with Aeos although admittedly if you don't have any interest in our characters backstory it may not be as fun for you, but I still love it.

Some of my favorite stories were my very story in Paladin Squad, I found it a very fun story and everyone seemed to work rather well together and it was just...overall entertaining for me. It can be found here: http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/7983/Another story which I also enjoyed was VE Hospital http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/7983/Also the stories which I also enjoyed were those written for the Roworth Hunters series.

Anything on the ShadowNet is worth a read. It's there for a reason. Talon's DJM Journey, "A Glimpse of the Abyss". Also, in my infinitely biased opinion "Jester Squad, PI" is perhaps the single best example of an Corps-style run-on out there.

I remember reading 'Illusion' by Darkhawk when I was accepted into the DJO, and being completely and utterly blown away by the quality of his description. It really is a shame that not all of you can view ShadowNet. On the other hand, there's some fantastic work on the Corps story boards. As Jeg said, a lot of the run-ons in Jester not that long ago were great.
I'd also recommend reading anything and everything by Jager and Hashi Shiyun. They both have quite a similar style, but the depth of technical detail in their posts and their ability to immerse readers completely in whatever world or scenario they're describing is amazing. I wish that both were still actively participating in the VE, because each and every time I posted with either I learned something new.

I was really enjoying Dead Men Tell No Lies http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/13954/page/0/ before it was abruptly ended. Some excellent writing on that topic by Jager, Tanus, Jeg, Kami and many others. I miss the ensemble cast feel of Osk sometimes. Also Fury's "put down" story which featured the death of a whole host of characters created by some trolls a few months back (if only because they threatened to sue him): http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/14422/

My favorite story all-time would have to be Nazgul: The Ties That Bind. It didn't necessarily fall in line with most Naval stories, but the people in Nazgul at the time really made it a great ride. Tons of creativity without a lot of godmodding, plus great cooperation. VEN: Into the Invisible also makes the list for some great story elements at the beginning, extreme participation for its duration, and being a great debut for the Navy's new structure. I think it probably scores well for everyone in the Navy. There are some others as well, particularly in the ShadowNet, but I can't recall their titles at the moment. -Drac
