Jegora winced as his shield disappeared. Somehow the last X-Wing had caught up to Jegora and had taken him by surprise. Jegora had managed to roll out of the way though, and so only his shields took damage. Still, it was closer than the young pilot would have liked.

Spinning his ship in a complete circle, spraying green lasers as he went, Jegora tried to keep the X-Wings at bay. Finally he managed to separate out, one X-Wing chasing him, the other waiting. I better not keep him waiting, eh?, he asked himself.

Jegora got out a far enough distance, then pulled a wide turn. Now he had an X-Wing in front of him and on behind him. Both were shooting wildly at Jegora, and the Imperial pilot was lucky that he didn’t get killed right there. Only the slim profile of the TIE Interceptor and Jegora’s erratic flying kept him from getting killed.

As he approached the X-Wing at full speed neither his pursuer nor his target changed course. Jegora was flying right at one X-Wing, pulling another X-Wing behind him. Red bolts were denting both of the large ships’ shields, but the AI apparently wasn’t programmed to avoid friendly fire.

At the last minute Jegora jerked his ship into a 90 degree climb. He craned his neck to see the results of his efforts, and he wasn’t disappointed when the two X-Wings flew right into each other.

Laughing to himself he sped off back towards the NR frigate. Trevor could handle the fighters. Jegora was going to cripple the capital ship.

Trevor was having a bit of a tough time deciding what he was going to do against the Anti-fighter cannons. On one hand he could arc over them and drop down on the other side, hoping they didn’t catch him in their deadly fire. On the other, he could swerve left or right and avoid the cannons that way, possibly causing an X-wing to fly wide and meet the cannon’s power source. Or plan three, shoot the hell out of them and fly right through where they had been. He thought, priming his own cannons and unleashing a storm of green shots.

The first cannon went up in a plume of smoke and flame, the one next to it suffering a bit of radial damage. Trevor was about to continue shooting when a problem warning light and buzzer went off. Doing a quick diagnostic he discovered that one of his wingtip cannons had locked up, and the energy still flowing to it was causing it to overheat. A fire right now would suck. Let’s just divert that.. He thought to himself, pumping the extra energy into his shielding to boost them back to 100%. Once they re-charged from the X-wings minor assault they’d be pushing 115%.

The X-wings behind him didn’t break off, but rather did something else he never would have expected. One of them cleared the damaged cannon with a shot from his own blasters, making the hole in the wall wide enough for all three X-wings to fly through. Shit, they’re willing to attack their own guys to get me out..Not good.

Jegora came in from behind the frigate, where most of the guns couldn’t get him. He was coming in fast. Very fast. The goal was to disrupt the engines enough to cripple the large ship. Jegora was by himself on this run, but the shields on the frigate were still down and no fighters were around. It should have been a fairly straight forward run.

Of course it wasn’t. Just as Jegora got in range to open fire, a laser cannon opened fire on him. It appeared to be coming from the frigate, but he knew for a fact that such ships and no rear-facing turrets.

Unless it had been specially installed.

Jegora cursed. Of course the simulation would have a specially modified frigate with a rear facing turret to make things difficult. Jegora should have expected as much. The young pilot rolled away and came back around for another try.

This time he kept going evasive, and he went in as fast as he could. He started shooting early, hoping to get lucky. He was focusing on one of the four engine outputs. As he dodged the anti-starfighter lasers he unleashed his green lasers.

He was rewarded by more sparks and fire as his shots connected with the engine. Keeping up the steady stream of fire he rolled his ship. He wished he had another concussion missile, but since he didn’t lasers would have to do.

Finally the engine shorted out and the frigate listed to one side for a quick minute. Jegora saw Trevor take the opportunity to get away from his pursuers and head back towards. Jegora grinned and pulled away, preparing for another run.

Trevor used the ship jerking to one side to pull a fast one on his opponents and dart around the edge of one of the anti-fighter turrets when he shot through the gap. The trio of X-wings shot apart in an attempt to avoid the hull of the ship that had just shifted in their direction. Trevor came charging back around at one of the three, cannons blazing, hoping that he would have the element of surprise over the X-wing as well as the anti-fighter cannons. The X-wing detonated in front of him and he used the momentary explosion to aid him in his escape of the anti-fighter cannons.

He carved a wide, sweeping turn around the top of the Destroyer and came around behind the now regrouped X-wings, neither of which had been able to figure out where he had gone. Behind him, the Anti-fighter turrets were lighting up and beginning to send red bolts his way, but not directly at him. He was far enough away from the ones behind him that their bolts just shot past him harmlessly, although they still made him slightly nervous.

Gunna need a long soak in the fresher after this one just to get rehydrated. Trevor thought to himself as he wiped his hands on his pants once again and began to dial in with the knobs on the weapons control box, doing his best to find a lock on one of the X-wings. He finally heard the confirmation tone and began to fire unrelentingly at the back of the X-wing, beating down the shields. Finally he struck through and began pelting on the back of the X, scoring a final hit by overpowering his three remaining cannons and blasting the edge of the X-wing. It exploded in a dramatic fireball, leaving Trevor down to his final X-wing.

Jegora was making his second run on the frigate’s engines. He had already knocked one of the four engines out, and the ship was having trouble maintaining course. He was going to knock out the other engine on that same side. With the other engine out, the ship would definitely list to one side.

Jegora pulled a loop and moved in on the frigate. Angling his deflector shields forward to help protect his front against the laser cannon he flew right at the engines, guns blazing. The first few shots were from a very long distance and failed to connect. The next shots did some light damage, and the next five to ten shots did max damage. Still rolling and pitching to avoid the laser cannon, Jegora saw the engine sputter and spark, but it didn’t go out.

Cursing to himself Jegora pulled out for another run. He saw Trevor mixing it up a lone X-Wing, but Jegora wasn’t worried. He had seen Trevor come out against impossible odds several times during the course of his naval career and this simulation, so he was pretty sure that Trevor could handle it.

Jegora made another run, this time knocking out the second engine. The ship lurched to the side again, worse than before. This time the AI couldn’t seem to correct the ships course and it started a slow spin through space.

Smiling inside Jegora sped off. Only two more engines to go, and then the ship would be completely immobile. Jegora would then be free to target other components on the ship at will.

Trevor was duking it out with the final X-wing, the both of them pulling some of the most difficult moves they could think of. Trevor’s fighter was upside d\own in relation to the X-wing, blazing away with his three blaster cannons. The X-wing was trying his best to escape the onslaught, but for some reason couldn’t seem to pull away from Trevor.

A few seconds more of this and Trevor had flown through the explosion of the X-wing, jumping involuntarily when a chunk of debris bounced off his view port. No damage was done though and he smiled, but that was quickly wiped from his face when he realized something else bad was happening. The Avenger and the X-wing had returned on his radar, both of them coming at him from different directions. The Avenger was coming in behind him while the X-wing was headed straight for him.

A twitch of the throttle threw his craft into a roll towards the now rotating Destroyer, and Trevor had to take a second to admire Jeg’s work. Two of the four engines were already out, while Jeg was attacking the other two unendingly. For some reason the battle has quickly changed in terms of who’s got the advantage. I wonder if they dropped down the difficulty or something. He thought to himself, avoiding the fire of the X-wing. The Avenger and the X-wing had joined up with him again, trying both to kill him.

Then a crazy thought struck him. What if they threw a real pilot or two in here to finally kill us off?

Jegora saw the Avenger and X-Wing duo come up on Trevor. He watched, worried that his squadron commander wouldn’t be able to handle it. He shook his head. He was in the middle of an attack run and couldn’t do anything about it now. He was about to fire on the engine when the laser cannon opened up on him.

“Alright, that’s it,” he said aloud to no one in particular.

Switching targets to the small tower holding the laser turret Jegora let loose with his cannons. Most of the shots missed but four or five of the bolts hit dead on, frying the cannon. Jegora pulled around and simply parked a few hundred meters away from the engines. It was easy now to simply shoot them. He was unopposed.

Making quick work of the last two engines and disabling the ship, he started looking for more targets. He knew that he would have to choose his targets carefully and for maximum effect. He didn’t have time to waste shooting every gun turret, so if possible he needed to see if he could find some sort of parabolic antennae that fed all the guns with firing data.

Flying around the ship in search of an antennae Jegora noticed a single large spike sticking out from the bottom of the ship. Jegora didn’t know what it was, but he thought it was probably good to blow it off.

Choosing the spike-like rod as his next target, Jegora sped in underneath the frigate on an attack run. Guns blazing, he blew the rod off the frigate. All the guns quit firing at once, lost without the data.

Jegora let out a whoop.

Trevor didn’t even notice the cannons had stopped shooting at him; he was too tied up in trying to avoid the Avenger and X-wing. The two craft were keeping on him tight as glue and he had only managed to shake them for a second, but not nearly long enough to get away from them. With a quick snap of the throttle and control yoke, he brought the craft through a two-seventy degree spin and launched off in the completely opposite direction that the X-wing and avenger had thought he was going into. The move worked, and both the Avenger and X-wing fell for the fake.

A quick one-eighty and he was behind them, but knew perfectly well that one of them could easily break off and come after him. He began to line up the X-wing when he saw the Avenger bank hard to the right and disappear out of his field of view. It didn’t take him very long to get a lock on the X-wing and began pelting it, following it tightly through a loop and combined barrel roll, hunting for some sort of escape.

With no escape presenting itself, the X-wing soon succumbed to the fire of Trevor’s tri-linked cannons. Still wish I had all four though, that’d be nice. Trevor thought to himself with a quick glance at his top-left cannon, the one that had had a problem earlier. It hadn’t burst into flame, but he was expecting one of his other ones to at any moment, with the amount of extra power he was pumping into them. The X-wing’s vaporized components drifted away from the center of the explosion and Trevor turned hard to the right to avoid it, now looking for the Avenger.

Jegora was circling the frigate again, looking for any target he could find to shoot at. He was on his second circuit when he saw the radar signatures. It appeared to be only four ships, but they were all E-Wings, high performance ship killers.

And they had red stripes across their nose. Jegora didn’t know what the red stripes were for, but they made the ships look intimidating. Bringing his TIE around to engage the E-Wings, he sped up.

Under normal conditions Jegora wouldn’t have engaged four ships of any kind by himself. But this being a simulation, and him being tired, caused him to become aggressive and perhaps a little overconfident in his skills.

The E-Wings opened up a tad early. Jegora exercised what little patience he had left to avoid the bolts and wait for his shot. As he neared the ships he got his chance. One of the E-Wings had quit firing just long enough to give Jegora a whole to slip through. Once he was in the hole he opened up with his cannons.

The effect was immediately satisfying. The E-Wing he was shooting at lost shields and took some serious hull damage, going into a crazy spin when one of its engines overloaded and blew. It collided with its wingmate, causing both E-Wings to explode. Jegora let out a whoop and smiled.

By now he was past the remaining two E-Wings. He pulled a snap turn and came around for another pass. This time the two ships came in slower, waiting for their shots. Jegora had a harder time avoiding their accurate lasers, but he managed to avoid any serious damage. Taking a potshot at one of the E-Wings, Jegora decided to make things more interesting.

The X-wing was easy enough, but the former Dragon Squadron Avenger was particularly challenging. He assumed it had to have been the squadron leader, because from what Trevor remembered that pilot had been one of the top pilots to that point in the battle. Whatever was controlling it seemed to have a good handle on how to fly though, as they were managing to avoid Trevor’s locks every single time.

He had the throttle to its stops and was slowly gaining ground, but was still wary of the rearward facing cannon. Yes, he had caused it a little bit of trouble earlier on in the battle by knocking the cannon funny, but it seemed to have figured out how to adjust the cannon and still make it usable. Trevor had to roll quickly out of the way in an attempt to avoid the cannon’s fire, but at first he didn’t quite dodge the shots.

He saw his shields flash blue and blinked his eyes, trying to clear them from the slightly bright flash. The bolts had connected with the shielding right in front of him and he quickly forwarded most of his shielding power, putting him to over one hundred and fifty percent in the front. He was about to begin firing when he noticed a small flame jut from his other top cannon and a warning siren went off within the cockpit. He quickly channeled all energy away from that cannon and inspected the damage readouts.

Damn! Down to only my bottom cannons! He thought to himself angrily, frustrated for not having noticed the cannon beginning to overheat.

Flying against the last two E-Wings was proving to be more of a challenge that Jegora had first anticipated. The first run had proven successful, but after the Jegora had killed the first two E-Wings that others had gotten better. They flew cautiously, waiting for the right moment to shoot and never getting greedy. Jegora was starting to have a rough time of it.

Finally Jegora got a lock on one of the E-Wings. Flipping his lasers to stutter and spraying green bolts all over, Jegora managed to drain the E-Wings shields. He didn’t get a chance to do more than that, though, because the NR ship broke off.

Giving chase to the fast and maneuverable E-Wing was not an easy feat, especially not with another E-Wing behind you. Somehow though Jegora managed to avoid the fire and get within range of the other E-Wing. He spun his targeting knobs, trying to dial in his target. As he did so, the shots crept closer and closer. Finally a laser rocked his shields, causing him to go into a dive. He had stopped flying evasively, and as a result he had got hit.

His shields were shot. They had no juice, and wouldn’t for a while. Jegora grimaced. He was starting to hate these programmers. When he got out of this simulator, he was going to have a long talk with them about what four hours of hard combat can do to a man. And what a man who’s been through four hours of hard combat can do to the man who put him there.

The Avenger was juking and diving, trying to escape Trevor’s duel-cannoned TIE interceptor. He’d made due with his newest inconvenience by putting the extra power from having one less cannon into his shields, booster them even higher than before. The Avenger had transferred his front shielding power to his rear cannon and Trevor could swear he could see it beginning to glow red from the amount of heat coming off it as it fired each overpowered bolt.

So far they were mostly missing, but the few that did hit his shields managed to bring them down twenty-five percent each time. The challenge was no longer staying behind the pilot, but trying to find ways to keep away from the blaster bolts and keep his shields up. Trevor slammed a fist down on the shielding indicator when it dropped below 100% and began playing with the knobs on the targeting system, trying to get a lock directly on the laser cannon on the rear of the Avenger.

“That’s it..” He said to himself, squeezing the trigger when he finally got a lock. He saw a few bolts whoosh towards the Avenger, making splashes on the shielding. Finally the shots broke through and a few made contact, one of them finally knocking the rear cannon completely off and sending it flying back towards Trevor. It bounced off the top of his cockpit ball and fluttered off away from his fighter. Nothing special now, jerk. Trevor thought to himself angrily as he continued to pelt the rear of the fighter with green bolts.

Jegora was still occupied with the E-Wings. He had managed to drain the shields on one, but the other one had chased him off. He was now making a wide loop around, trying to flank one of the E-Wings and take it by surprise. The move didn’t work, but it did get Jegora in position behind the E-Wing. Jegora checked his sensors and noted that it was the one with no shields.

Jegora grinned and dialed in his knobs. He didn’t break his chase when the other E-Wing pulled off of his partner’s wing to attack Jegora. He was flying on instinct now, avoiding laser shots and adjusting the knobs.

Finally he got a lock. He depressed his fire button and green lasers shot out of his TIE, ripping into the E-Wing and tearing it apart. Jegora had little time to ponder his kill as the other E-Wing was behind him now. Jegora pulled up sharply, and then spun to the right. The E-Wing couldn’t follow him through the physics-defying maneuver.

Jegora spun again to chase the E-Wing, and was greeted by red lasers that he barely avoided. What the hell, he thought to himself. How did the E-Wing manage to spin around like that? Only a very, very good pilot could pull a move like that in a ship like the E-Wing.

Jegora didn’t ponder it long. He got right back in on his enemies tail, determined to take him out.  Pushing his throttle forward, Jegora let out a tight grin. This one was going to be for his squadron mates.

The Avenger was flying much differently now that it had lost its rearward facing cannon. Instead of just trying to avoid Trevor’s shots, it was now desperate to get behind him and take him out before he could do the same to it. The Avenger pilot was engaging a turning battle that could only end if one of the pilots pulled out, seeing as the turning radius for both ships was basically equivalent.

Neither pilot was going to win that, Trevor knew it. He also knew that the AI pilot probably wasn’t about to run out of fuel any minute, and with the knowledge he twisted the fighter out of the tight circle it was in and cut hard to the left, then to the right. He wasn’t aiming to get behind the Avenger at the moment as much as he was trying to stay away from it. It was then that he noticed the Destroyer had stopped shooting at him.

“Jeg! Did you do something to the guns on that Corellian ship?” Trevor asked, the thought striking him a little bit late. He heard nothing but blank, and for a few seconds thought that maybe while he had been dog fighting the Avenger he had made a drastic mistake and lost his wingman. He was relieved a second later when Jegora burst through on the comm. with increased volume.

“Yeah, I knocked out the antenna that transmits targeting data to the guns. It’s basically dead in the water until they get that or the engines back online.” Jeg said, thinking to himself that it was about time Trevor noticed.

There was only one E-Wing left and Jegora decided to end it quickly. He wanted to take out that capital ship before he ran out of fuel. Pressing his throttle to the max he sped after the E-Wing. After closing the gap considerably, he opened fire.

His attacks were unsuccessful, as he expected them to be. But his real point in attacking that early was to make the AI pilot react to being shot at. And he had reacted just as Jegora had expected. He turned and fired at Jegora.

Jegora was flying one of the fastest ships in the galazy, however, and the E-Wing shot way behind him. Now the E-Wing was directly in Jegora’s sights, and the Imperial pilot was going to finish the NR ship. Jegora adjusted his knobs, got a luck, fired…and nothing happened. His guns simply did not fire.

Jegora had no idea what had happened. All his power readouts were stable, he still had a goodly amount of fuel, his guns hadn’t overloaded. They had just quit working. The only thing Jegora could think of was that the programmers were messing with him. Jegora didn’t like being messed with.

Quickly shutting down everything and rebooting it back up again would take precious seconds. Seconds that would give the E-Wing the perfect opportunity to shoot him. Jegora didn’t know any other way to solve the problem, though.

Jegora killed all the power to his guns, hoping that maybe that would bring them back online. He had no such luck, and the guns remained disabled. Jegora cursed to himself. Just when he was feeling better about the simulation, something like this happened.

Trevor’s engines continued to work flawlessly as he sped along in front of the Avenger, doing his best to avoid the shots as he watched behind him out the rear view port. Most of the New Republic ships had spread out to take on the few and far between VE vessels, so he wasn’t worry about colliding with one of those. For some reason most of their fighters had been taken out too, or at least re-docked with their original ships. The fighter between him was dancing right along with him, following his every move.

“Damn, this guy is good Jeg. How’s the capital ship going?” Trevor asked, throwing the fighter into a barrel roll that almost made him get dizzy. The ships in front of him spun and spun, then finally leveled off as he did. The Avenger was still right on his tail though, and he was running out of maneuvers.

“Not good, One. E-wings are giving me hell and my cannons quit.” Jegora said, much to Trevor’s surprise. He knew his own cannons weren’t working, but he also knew why they weren’t. He still had two of four anyway, so he wasn’t too worried about it.

“Ah. That’s a bad thing. Better get those back online quick, bud.” Trevor said, cutting hard to the right to avoid some debris left behind earlier in the battle. His follower didn’t react quite as quickly and flew right threw them, a few of the chunks of durasteel bouncing off his cockpit but with no visible damage, or so Trevor noticed.

Jegora straightened out and put all power into the engines. He would have to get as much distance as possible for what he was about to attempt. In fact, what he was about to attempt was so suicidal under current conditions that Trevor would probably yell at him if he knew. Then again, maybe not. Jegora wasn’t really sure, and he didn’t really care.

Gaining distance on the slightly slower E-Wing, Jegora turned his ship off. He didn’t simply cut the engines, he turned everything off. He flipped the emergence shutdown switch. As soon as he had flipped that switch he was trying to restart the TIE.

Time was critical, and restarting a TIE Interceptor in the middle of space was no easy feat. Jegora looked up from his control panel and saw the E-Wing flying straight for him. He turned back the panel, knowing he had about another ten seconds before he got blown into pieces.

Finally the TIE lit back up. Jegora yelled, laughed, turned his TIE to face the E-Wing, and blew the unsuspecting NR ship out of the sky. Jegora laughed. He reached up and wiped the sweat of his brow. He was grinning from ear to ear though. Nothing was more thrilling than escaping death.

Turning his TIE and heading back towards the frigate, Jegora tried to pick out a target. Screw it, I’m killing the bridge, He thought to himself after a moment. Speeding off in the direction of the large NR ship, Jegora spun his dial knobs.

Trevor wasn’t paying attention to what Jeg was doing; he was concentrating on getting away from the Avenger. He had thrown it through a debris field, but it had still pulled out and was behind him. By now he was starting to get somewhat frustrated, a feeling he knew could make him make rash decisions that would bite him back later. He wasn’t worry about that right now though, and swung his fighter in a tight arc, then cut his engine power and spun the fighter even tighter. It was almost as if he had made a sweeping 180 and then performed a right angle turn.

This threw the Avenger off enough for Trevor to get behind it once again; this time he rejoined the fight with both cannons blazing. The Avenger couldn’t get away and took a fair few hits to its rear shielding, finally Trevor’s overpowered shots making it through and contacting the hull. Trevor saw a few small chunks of durasteel break off, then he saw a series of sparks glance off the top of the Avenger’s cockpit. Hm? I didn’t hit it up there. Oh, shit! He’s taking me through that debris field! Trevor thought to himself as he saw a chunk of a TIE fighter’s wing float past him on one side. The Avenger was taking the occasional hit as well, but it was enough for work for Trevor to avoid the larger pieces of debris while still sticking to the Avenger that he couldn’t find time to shoot.

He did end up with a small moment of victory though, when the Avenger was nicked by a sharp piece of durasteel and Trevor saw a bunch of gas begin escaping from one of the tubes that was stretched out over the wing pylon, connecting to both the wing and the cockpit. Trevor had had a similar experience at one point in his career with a cooling line, but Trevor had a feeling that that wasn’t a cooling line that had been cut.

Trevor watched a little more carefully as he got closer to the Avenger ahead of him. He was trying to figure out where the line that had been severed went. It was still gushing a whitish steam although the pressure behind the flow seemed to be lessening. He traced the line with his eyes a few times and almost couldn’t figure out where it went, then it came to him. The fighter had just severed a fuel line. On the Avenger, the fuel lines had been routed outside of the cockpit of the TIE, although Trevor had never been able to figure out how come they did that. It seemed like a stupid idea to him, and this simulation only proved why.

The fighter seemed to have quite the fuel capacity though, and Trevor was now trying to strike the jet of fuel with his blaster cannons. So far he’d been unsuccessful, but knew that if he could just catch the jet with his shots he might be able to set it alight and blow up the fighter that way. He wouldn’t be given the opportunity though, as the Avenger quickly ducked downwards and away from Trevor’s fighting, pulling into a tight barreling loop and trying to get behind him. Trevor managed to match the move perfectly though, both cannons blazing as he followed his target.

“You think you can get away? Eat this one, jerk.” Trevor said calmly, finally managing to hit the TIE enough times to cause it to shred apart. He couldn’t help but throw a fist up into the air as the Avenger’s wings blew past him on both sides and the cockpit ball sailed forwards before splitting apart. About freaking time. Now I can go give Jeg a hand. Trevor thought to himself as he pulled the fighter around and headed back towards where the Corellian Destroyer was.

Jegora seemed to be doing all right on his own, having managed to make a few passes at the bridge of the Corellian Destroyer. He had paused for a moment when he noticed one of the blips disappear from his monitor; nervous that the Avenger had bested Trevor he had been dealing with. It took him a moment to differentiate between the red and the green on the radar and realized that it had in fact been the Avenger that had been taken down. He spotted Trevor’s dot headed in his direction and smiled; he wouldn’t have to take the Destroyer down by himself.

He continued to make his runs at a slower speed, blasting the front of the Destroyer with his cannons overpowered, most of his shields having been drained now that the immediate threats were gone. It didn’t take very long for Trevor to show up on his wing and open fire as well, the two tired pilots working as a team once more.

“Starting to get a little wrecked over here, how about you?” Trevor asked, adjusting the way he was sitting in his TIE and glancing back at Jegora’s TIE. Jeg shrugged even though Trevor couldn’t see it.

“You bet. I’m totally going to fall asleep during the debriefing.” Jeg said, causing Trevor to laugh. His laugh was cut short though, when a pair of red lances shot at them from the Destroyer. A second later a few more light up the expanse, slowly more and more anti-fighter guns joining in.

‘Damn it! They got them back online!” Trevor said loudly as he spin his fighter downward in an attempt to avoid the hail of fire that was raining down upon them. His overcharged shields didn’t really take much a hit from the anti-fighter cannons. Jeg however, was a different story.

With his weapons overcharged with shield energy, his shields had been weakened to begin with. The red blasts from the Destroyer’s guns pierced through them quickly, and a few of them scuffed up his wings, sending chunks of solar panels flying off of them. He managed to get down to a point where he was safe as well, although by then the damage had been done and his shields had been weakened. He’d have to recharge them quickly if they were going to make another run for the bridge.

“Jeg, you alright?” Trevor asked, recalibrating a few settings on his energy placement controls and glancing across the void at Jeg’s fighter that was floating not too far from his. The other pilot was sitting in his own cockpit, desperately trying to get a bunch of his systems back. Not only had his shields been knocked out, but his cannons had also been drained but a rapid power switch within the TIE’s computer itself, trying to reinforce the shields faster then the human hands that control the TIE could.

“Yeah, I’m going to make it. Going to need a minute to recharge though.” He said, and Trevor smiled. Good to know he’s not leaving me alone in this yet.

Trevor tapped his fuel gauge again to make sure it was still showing him the correct and that it hadn’t gotten stuck and ended up dipping any lower then it already had. Jeg’s fighter now had the majority of the systems online again, and all the ones that hadn’t come back yet were ones he could live without. The two pilots formed up together and prepared to make a run at the Destroyer’s bridge again, but Trevor slowed his fighter down when he realized that they were no longer the only fighters in the area. Slowly headed towards them was another pair of fighters, ones Trevor recognized as A-wings. Twisting in his seat to get a better look, he spotted a few things that made him nervous.

To begin with, The A-wings were flying towards them at a speed that was much higher then an A-wing’s usual speed. Following that observation, he spotted that they sported a few extra cannons more than normal, and possibly missile tubes as well. Damn it. Modified A-wings, just our luck at this point. Trying to make a killing blow and we end up having to fight off more and more bastards. Trevor swore in his mind, flicking the comm. channel open to alert Jeg to the new threat.

“Jeg, this is Trevor. We’re being approached by a pair of modified A-wings from 8 o’clock, and they’re just bristling with cannons. Keep any eye out and let’s get this final run in, then we’ll have to engage them.” Trevor said, and Jeg nodded. Before they could get very far into their run though, a missile warning alarm went off in Trevor’s cockpit. He instinctively pushed his fighter into a diving roll, while contacting Jeg. “I’ve gotta ditch, Two, they launched a missile after me.” He said, frantically trying to regain control of his spin.

“Me too, Lead. I broke in the other direction.” Jeg replied, but Trevor wasn’t paying too much attention. He was more worried about not being killed, nothing new to him in this simulation.

Trevor’s fighter swung left and right as he danced it across space, doing his best to avoid the missile that was hot on his tail. He rolled and dived, twisted and spun, doing whatever he could to put more distance between himself and the missile. So far nothing was working, although he had gotten a glance at Jegora a few times and seen the pilot performing his own share of maneuvers to avoid the missile that was on his tail.

Trevor sighed and continued flying, glancing over his shoulder every few seconds to see if the missile was still behind him. Each time he did he saw a jet of flame shooting out from behind a long, missile shaped body and assumed that he hadn’t managed to lose the missile yet. Damn it, this is getting way to stupid. I need to find some way to get rid of this missile without having to fly for so long, or I’m going to run myself out of fuel prematurely. He thought to himself, when an idea struck him.

He quickly adjusted a few knobs on his energy controller and caused the ship’s speed to drop incredibly. He quickly made another few adjustments and then prepared himself to be struck by the missile. At 100%, his shields would have disappeared and he would have received major, if not fatal hull damage. But with every ounce of power he could spare being transferred to the shields, they were running at more than 300% output levels, and he knew they could withstand the missile. He checked out his rear view port and braced himself for the impending explosion.

The TIE Interceptor was rocked by the explosion and sent Trevor into a lateral spin that he hadn’t been expecting. He was doing his best to regain it and adjust his shielding at the same time, having a little bit of luck in the given situation. He managed to pull out of the spin, and to his surprise he was facing his aggressors head to head. One of them anyway. He punched the trigger out of instinct and watched as the A-wing cut down and to his right, not having expected his opponent to pull out of the spin and shoot back at him. Rather, the AI had been expecting to come in and pick Trevor off while he tried to regain control after his spin.

Trevor quickly took the chance to follow his enemy, pulling in behind the escaping A-wing and attempting to get a lock as quickly as he could. Even with half of his weapon power being splashed into his engine power, he would need another few moments before the engines were up to their original power and able to help him out much. All he could do now was tail the A-wing and hope to catch up to it shortly. Slowly but surely his craft was picking up speed as the engines recharged, allowing him to begin gaining on the A-wing.

Once he was within firing distance of the enemy craft, Trevor began to cycle the knobs in an attempt to get a lock on the A-wing. Despite the fact that it was dodging around at an incredible rate of speed, Trevor’s experienced hand managed to quickly dial in the A-wing and get a lock. He heard the sound of the lock buzzer and depressed the trigger.

The A-wing’s shields ahead of him lit up brightly from the green bolts he was pumping into the back of the ship. They just didn’t seem to want to break though, and always seeming to find another spot of power just as they began to flash red. Trevor was frustrated, knowing that if he had still had all four cannons he wouldn’t have a problem at all taking down the A-wing. At the same time he wasn’t going to overload his final two cannons out of fear of accidentally causing them to have problems too.

The A-wing was twisting and turning, trying to escape from Trevor. He wasn’t going to give it the chance though, continuing to hang right on the rear of the craft. It was almost effortless flying for Trevor, which surprised him considering he was beginning to feel the wear of the simulation on his body. His muscles aches with every move he made, and he was almost to the point where he was ready to let himself be killed just to end it.

If it was real life, I’d definitely fly until I was killed or managed to escape. However, considering it isn’t, the only thing I’ve got going for me is a high mark on my report card at the end of this. Trevor’s mind grumbled, trying to avoid thinking too much about the situation at hand. He only wanted to consider as much of it as he needed to, no more or no less then that.

Finally Trevor’s unrelenting pounding on the shields of the A-wing paid off. It was a few short seconds after he pierced the rear shielding that he managed to set off a catastrophic explosion in one of the engines. It bucked and then exploded, setting off the second engine a moment later before ripping the craft apart, AI pilot and all. Trevor let out a sigh of relief and checked his radar for Jegora, who was now being tailed by an A-wing. Trevor sighed again and angled his craft around towards where Jegora was flying.

“Need a hand, bud?” Trevor asked, finally getting Jegora in his sights. The pilot was engaged in a tight turning battle with the A-wing, getting shot at all the while. The A-wing that was chasing Jeg had moveable cannons, allowing it to shoot at him even while they were turning. Trevor had to admire the creativity of the scenario designers, but at the same time he was beginning to hate how they couldn’t just provide them with a means of escape. We have to die for this to end. He thought to himself as he began to get closer.

“What’s it look like?” Jeg replied, the frustration in his voice obvious as Trevor watched from a slowly lessening distance. Finally Trevor got within the range of the A-wing and sent out a stuttered burst from his two remaining cannons, enough to startle the A-wing but not enough to destroy it or cutout it’s shields. Instead it broke off from Jeg thinking that it had an opponent right behind it and began to go evasive. It had jumped the gun though, because Jeg didn’t start to follow it for another few seconds.

Jegora took a minute to get pulled out of the turn, but once he did he was chasing after the A-wing like there was no tomorrow. The A-wing was jerking back and forth in an attempt to avoid Jeg’s unrelenting fire, for the most part being successful. Jeg was as frustrated as Trevor was, but he didn’t yet have the experience required to control all his feelings while behind the view port of the fighter. He was firing out of being mad at the simulation for not wanting to end yet, and this was causing his aim to be off.

“Jeg, take it easy for a minute and get a clear shot off.” Trevor said into the comm., keeping close behind Jegora and watching the entire chase unfold. Jegora was keeping behind his target just fine, but for some reason he wasn’t able to get a cannon lock and this was costing him precious seconds of his simulated life. Trevor also noted that the A-wing seemed to be leading Jegora closer to the Destroyer that had had its turrets reactivated.

“Jeg, watch out for the Destroyer..” Trevor said slowly, making sure all his words were heard by Jeg. Jeg didn’t reply, but his aim did seem to become more accurate. He scored a few hits on the A-wing’s shields and brought them into the red. This one isn’t powering them back up like mine was. Trevor thought to himself as he watched. Then the moment of victory happened, as Jeg finally managed to rip through the shields and hit one of the engines of the A-wing. It shorted out and kicked the A-wing into an uncontrollable spin, heading right for the bridge of the Destroyer. Trevor slowed down and took a moment to watch in satisfaction as the A-wing plummeted through the space between itself and the Destroyer, then crashed through the bridge’s transperisteel view ports.

Although the durasteel shutters tried to close over the broken durasteel, one of the supports had been taken out as well, preventing them from closing all the way. The Destroyer was as good as done.

“So what do we do now?” Jeg asked, having calmed down from the fluke chance that the out of control A-wing did the damage that it did. Trevor shrugged within his fighter. It seemed as if for the moment the programmers weren’t quite sure what to throw at them next.

“Not sure, bud. Maybe they’ve maxed out everything and we actually win.” Trevor said with a tone of sarcasm in his voice, knowing that a sim could never be maxed out and that he and Jeg could never win this. He was just going to have to sit and wait around for the next massive attack to be launched at them. He didn’t need to wait very long.

It took the programmers only a few moments to figure out what they were going to do. Wanting to get on their breaks and end the simulation, Trevor saw swarm after swarm of X-wings. They were coming in a squadron at a time, a bit of space between them, then another squadron. Sure, freaking come in and try to obliterate us. Oh well, it’s about time anyways. Trevor thought to himself as he pointed the new targets out to Jeg.

“I see them. I have a feeling our time here is limited.” Jeg said, a sound of relief and disappointment mixing in his voice. Trevor laughed and turned his fighter to face the new threat. Sure, they were going to lose, but they might as well go down fighting.

“Shall we do this?”

“Yes. Lets.”

Jegora checked his radar and saw the giant swarm of X-Wings. He counted five squadrons flying at them at small intervals. The first squadron would be on them in mere seconds, but Jegora was ready. He had killed more than his fair share of fighters in this simulation, he had severely injured a capital ship, and he had watched his entire squadron die at the hands of programmers.

Oh yes, he was ready to be done. But he was also ready to kill more fighters, if only to piss the programmers off. Together, Trevor and Jegora launched their fighters and the first squadron and full speed. In seconds the X-Wings were in gun range, and both Jegora and Trevor opened up. Trevor’s two remaining cannons and Jegora’s four lit up the space between the two pilots and the large X-Wings before any of the NR ships even fired.

The two Imperial pilots killed two of the X-Wings during the initial charge. Spinning around in unison, each pilot managed to kill another X-Wing. By now the X-Wing AI’s had gotten over the initial ‘shock’ of two pilots charging their squadron, and were opening up on the two pilots.

The two interceptor pilots threw their ships into spins and pushed through the squadron. The next X-Wing squadron was still a ways away, so together the two Imperial pilots dove back in to the fight, guns blazing.

Jegora had to laugh. Something like this would never happen in real life. For one, he doubted the New Republic had the resources to attack the Vast Empire like this, and for another he doubted they had this many pilots to throw at two fighters. But it wasn’t real life, it was a simulation. Jegora acquired another target, and depressed his firing button.

Trevor was kind of surprise dhow well their initial attack went. Four X-wings down within seconds, and soon there would be more deaths. It was beginning to become so unrealistic and easy to predict the crazy amounts of NR fighters that killing them was no longer a challenger. They all started off by evading the same way, and this made it horribly easy to led their fighters and just blast away with the TIE’s cannons. Even Trevor’s dual cannons were making easy work of the NR fighters, but he hadn’t noticed his gauge drop pretty much the entire way. He didn’t yet realize he was running on fumes.

“I want them to be a challenge.” Jegora complained as he finished blasting yet another X-wing out of the sky. Their kill counts would be phenomenal, but Trevor never based his skill off of a simulation kill count. They could be badly inaccurate, such as the ones that would be printed today. Anyone can out fly a droid or computer. Any one, any where, any time. Trevor thought to himself as he spun his fighter after one of the other X-wings from the first wave. So far they had destroyed half of the first Squadron in very little time, and Trevor felt sad about it.

“We definitely need them to become less predictable. I’m almost begging for some sort of ship malfunction here.” Trevor said, glancing at his monitors and finding himself inwardly disappointed that none of them had frozen or turned off. What I’d give, for something to completely turn this on it’s head and finish us off, just like that. He thought to himself, taking his hand off the yoke and snapping his fingers.
