Welcome Andre! I am very glad one of the three new recruits I sent e-mails to yesterday have found their way here.

Now that you've posted here on the ComNet, you've actually completed the Imperial Initiation (II) phase of Basic Training (BT).  BT's second phase is called Flight School (FS), which is made up of three chapters and an exam.  The first chapter, and probably the most important aspect of our system, is that of Character Creation - the bio.  In order for your character to exist in our club, our universe if you will, you need to create them in written form, detailing their stories, their personalities and the physical aspects that we may be aware of with a glance or perhaps things we can not see with the naked eye.  Either way, you're going to tell us how to describe you're character in a more detailed fashion than you're probably used to, but that's part of the fun

So, if you'll follow the link below, you'll be able to see the entirety of Flight School, the portion of BT I was referring to above.  BT is, essentially, training and thus, once you've passed through it, you're going to be placed in an Active Squadron, in 'Active Duty'.  So, depending on how well you do here against the recruits currently training here, you'll receive a rank at the end of your training and receive certain recommendations or promotions.  You'll want to go to Chapter 1- Character Development.  So, lets get off to a good start and get you going...

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flight_School_%28FS%29

In summary: Write a bio about your character, you can find many examples on the Wiki if you're having trouble. Just read some of the ones by other pilots. They will also to give you an idea of what kind of information to include.

Once this is completed we will grade it and move you onto the next section, which will be described in further detail at that time. I encourage you to get on IRC in some form or another and if you're using mIRC (or anything that allows you to join more than one channel, find your way into #VENA) I will be on tonight after work/soccer and would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Welcome to the Navy!

This is my re-done rough draft for my character bio.

Name: Andre(AKA Andy)Last name: Never Known.
Gender: Male
Born on: Corellia
Born: 11-13?BBY(never recorded).
Height: 6 feet 7 inches.
Skin color: sun tanned.
Weight: 135
Characteristics: Brown hair, brown eyes, strong, scarred on head after hit and run(in detail at the bottom), great at formulating plans for battles, loves space, is 110% for Empire.

History: After being born on Corellia, he was nearly killed by a hit and run from a cruiser in space during one of many since the Alliance took control of Corellia. As he grew up his parents noticed his potential as a tactician, because when they pitted a master versus him in a board game, he won. When he was 13 he wanted to be an admiral after seeing an Imperial admiral(probably Palleon, because when he won he walked down to me to encourage me to join the Empire, and he had a grey beard.) When he was 14 he found his parents gone, nowhere, he looked everywhere he thought how he had no parents and became a bounty hunter, but when he and some Imperial met the Imperial chose to be his fatherly figure. When he became 21 he found out from his father(real name Kaer Vor Zad) that his parents were loyal to the Empire and so when the Rebellion captured Corellia they rounded up Imperial loyals and locked them up in a prison vehicle that was accidentally destroyed by enemies of the Rebellion who unknowingly destroyed all loyalists. And as such he vowed to be in the Empire to get revenge on the Rebellion and to become an admiral!  When he found a map of the galaxy he turned it in for money for  Kaer Vor Zad(his adoptive dad) who was a clone and was dying.

When he thinks of having wingmen, he would always think of defending them as if they were his real family.  He vowed to find the vessel that his parents were on to hopefully find them, however his main concern is to pass through the academy.  He always was a loner, so when he got friends he considered them his family and as such, would always defend them from anything, they once had pay for 100 credit tickets-he paid for it all.

When ever faced with a problem with friends, he always talks it out, because he never wants to loose a friend, he would always make friends anytime, anywhere.  When one of his friends died because of unknown reasons, he hand made the tombstone using the little money he had.  On his twenty first birthday, he wished to make friends, join the Empire and pass the academy, and to avenge his family.

This is him reflecting upon himself:
When I was born I always felt destined for greatness, I guess I would have never joined the Empire if I had never been a witness to it's magnificence, I always wanted to join the academy, and my adoptive imperial father always encouraged me to be loyal to friends, family, and the Empire.  The Rebellion always was pretty mean in my point of view, I never really wanted to be a bounty hunter when I was young, but I had no money, no friends, but now I am thankful for the empire for giving me those things, and for giving me my adoptive, Imperial, father.

Likes: To see battle plans work magnificently, military tradition in the Empire, to work out, ride bikes(because his adoptive father did too), and he loves egg drop soup!

Dislikes: The Rebellion!

If someone said hi, he would say hi, sir
If someone said bye, he would say later, sir.
If he sees someone on the street, he would take them in, just like his imperial adoptive father.
If he had a stone, a stick, and rope, he would make a spear and use it to defend the Empire.
If he had to pick favorites, he wouldn't.
He really loves making friends.

Your physical Attributes need some work, but you've got something going on your history atleast.  Maybe you could detail it out a bit more, well, a lot more.  Make sure you describe every situation in your history in brief but good detail.  Make sure you've got your timeline a bit right, and we'll have some of the trainers here give you a little help.

Keep up the good work...

Looks pretty good Andre, well done. It's definitely a good start to your Naval career (by this I mean you will have plenty of opportunities to expand on your character's history as time goes on). The only things I would change at the moment are the years with respect to the timeline we are in. We are in the midst of the Thrawn era (9 ABY)...this would make your character 29-39 by your given date of birth. Seeing as how you know you are 21, you could change that "20-30?BBY(never recorded)" to 11-13 BBY (could still mention it was never recorded, but shorten the range).

Other than that, some capitalization on things such as Rebellion and Empire and it should look great. Maybe decide what admiral you saw and why (would likely not be Thrawn as he was a secret right up until recently). I'll look over it again later, but it looks really good. I have to go do some errands on my way home, but I'll post the next step for your training when I get home.

Well done.

(Note: I can't officially pass you as I am an operator, but we might as well get you started on the next step while Jaden and Shazam look over the newly edited version)

Hey Andre, glad to see that you found your way on to IRC today. Anyways, the next step to your training can be found under 'Chapter II - Pilot Procedure' on the Flight School link I gave you earlier. The assignment is straight forward, but feel free to shoot any questions my way.

Also, there is a story on the Naval Story Board entitled "Battlefront: Suvari Conflict (VENA)" intended for new recruits. Most of what you need to know is in the first post, but if you have any questions feel free to ask me. It's pretty unrestrictive, so have fun and take the chance to get used to writing in the VE before being placed in a squadron. It isn't required for graduation from the Academy, but I'd recommend giving a try so you can get a feel for the writing here.

Once you've finished the second assignment, we'll get you working on your character's Wiki page, and you'll be close to being assigned to a squadron.

my second assignment.

An Aot can help determine which way to came to attack someone, however it can help you on the defense by letting you calculate the distance between you  and a potentially deadly situation.

A turning radius helps you calculate which angle of attack you should choose, and on the defense could save you from death, because turn too lightly and they can get behind you.

Basic flight maneuvers (bfm)

Break turn:
You can use it to find a new target and maybe your wingman, if used correctly, could get in a good aggressive stance too.  However it should also make a defensive position an aggressive one, allowing you to find another target while your wingman should be able to be on the bogie's six o clock, the reason for being is that if your target is coming from 3 o clock you would make him have to massive G's just to keep up.
You could also use it to avoid fire, and, hopefully dodge missiles.

Barrel roll:
If your aggressively trying to down an enemy, but your going too fast, use a barrel roll, a barrel roll is turning on a axis point to gain an advantage.  It poses many defensive advantages too.  One is that once initiated you slow down the enemy overshoots, and once completed it puts you at the bogie's six o clock.  However it has to be initiated 100% correct, any error and you will overshoot, too slow and you loose the advantage.  And he may follow you through it.

Extras:
These are extras, I thought they were useful.

Lag pursuit:
What happens is that you follow the bogie commence a break turn and get on his 6 o clock.

The sandwich:
What happens is you overshoot and the bogie follows you through, however, unknown to the bogie, your wingman then comes up and shoots at the bogie, when your at a safe distance, it is really useful for when you "accidentally" over shoot or really overshoot.  It gives you a great defense because it knocks off one bogie, and it poses a stupendous offense capability.

Other extra useful info:

Air craft I will most likely pilot:
Tie interceptor; An overall improved version of the "basic" interceptor, it has many features and can safely engage x's without fear.

My pilot personality (a combo, if possible):

Ace(someday maybe); someone who shoots down 5 planes or more.

Ace(pilot personality); follows the rules of combat and are extremely organized.

Duke(pilot personality); spontaneous pilot, but not foolish, in fact they are usually the first to understand a situation.
For the Empire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ace eh? FYI, in the VEN, shooting down 5 enemy planes doesn't make one an ace. If that were the case, everyone would be aces already. It's nothing surprising to shoot down 5 enemy fighters in just one battle.

Howdy- I was away when you entered the academy, so just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself.  *Sips drink*  I'm the TO and I'll be assigning you to a squadron when you get that wiki profile set up with your proficiencies.  If you have any questions, feel free to jump one of the staffers, but it's probably best you hit Tomas first, as he is an operator.  Anyways- lookin good and I'm glad you decided to stick around; keep rockin.

Alrighty then- I've double back and taken a look at your bio and I think there are some things that need addressing.  Note, though we don't have to be perfect here, and I see you've edited your post a great number of times to meet the specifications of the staff here, we do need to be somewhat 'realistic.'  Realistic is a relative term here because we're talking about the Star Wars universe that doesn't exist, however- what are the chances that you would win a game of tactics over a 'master,' and then have Palleon, one of the most famous admirals, drop by and say 'join the Empire!"  Don't worry, I'm not trying to be cynical, but do you understand that the chances of said events occurring and in that order are a bit unbelievable?  Lemme give you what I think would happen if, by some chance, Palleon was sitting there and saw you win a match against a master tactician:

"Kill his parents...  Take the boy."  He'd be kidnapped, brainwashed into working for the Imperials, and have almost no life whatsoever outside of his zombie-like workstate.  Somber and crude, but 'realistic' in the SW universe.  Furthermore- the VE is usually pretty strict about keeping main characters from the movies and books out of our scopes.  We create our own enemies and allies and just kind of let the rest of the SW universe play out its role in the background.  So, maybe saying that your character showed promise in tactics would be smart, or better yet, staging the win against the master tactician as some kind of fluke- or maybe he really was that good?  Either way, you could use it as something that your character always wonders about himself- "Did I really win that or was it just coincidence that I made all the right moves?"  Perhaps someday he'll find out.  But the whole series of events on how he becomes a bounty hunter...  Dude- it's just not making a lot of sense.  It goes against the constructs of your character- he was raised by a generous man and then he turns around and hunts people for money?  We don't need to be perfect, aiight, man- but let's try and be 'realistic.'

What I would suggest is not worrying about being a badass and not trying to cover all of your bases (jedi, bounty hunter and generally a good guy).  Rather, let's focus on the fact that your character's father was a good guy and, somehow, maybe because the Imperials were kind to your father and allowed him to live his way, made an influence on your character and his father further enhanced it.  Something that logically leads you there.  Sounds pretty plain, right?  The good thing about the VE is that your bio is never set in stone- we leave tremendous gaps.  We don't really say what happens in between.  If, sometime later, you still want to do a bounty hunter side mission- why not?  You'll just have to put it in there logically- most things around here are cause and effect relationships: people join the Navy because they like fighters, they join the Empire because they hate the Republic or think it's just better- they prefer java over glowstim because you become more alert without becoming subject to an Imperial court-marshal.  Anywho- I'm not sure if you really followed that, but I can help you out there if you'd like- I'm usually on IRC in #VENA.  I think Tomas would be very willing to help and I'm sure he also sees where I'm coming from here.  Keep up the good work, anyways, man.
