With the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic quickly approaching, I have created a new ComNet for any discussions about the game. If you haven't already done so, you can pre-order your game so you can have it when it comes out. It sounds like they'll be releasing the game during the holidays in 2011. Oh god. I'm still in denial about this game. I had myself convinced that I wouldn't get it after my WoW addiction grew to exponential proportions...but the combination of Star Wars, MMORPG gameplay and the VE?!

Guys, make sure you pre-order the game too. Awesome....application processed. I'm going to start with a Sith Inquisitor (Sorcerer) focusing in damage and healing. I'll probably roll a second character once I get the first one leveled up and know more about how all the classes play....cause they all look pretty cool. So upon caving completely and going to pre-order my copy I've discovered that the game will NOT be released in Australia when it's released to the US/Canada and the majority of Europe. I can import when you guys have access to it but there have been hints at latency issues, plus I'm not sure how I would go in terms of Bioware support since the game wouldn't officially be released here.
...am thinking, perhaps they intend to set up servers here? I'm hoping that's the reasoning behind the extra wait. Not going to get my hopes up though. I know what you mean Kami, there are no release plans here in Japan either (not that I could read enough Japanese if it was). I'll be importing a European copy and yes, I too am concerned about latency. If its any help, using WoW as a model, I played that for over a year here on a US server and it was no problem. And Blizzard even gave me support when I asked for it. I know we are talking about a different company, and Australia is further from the US than Japan, but I'm fairly confident we'll be okay. I played on a US server for WoW too but even with ADSL had to consistently deal with 400ms/500ms latency. It was bearable during off-peak time on the server but on weekends and late nights it would spike to 1000+ ms and I'd frequently get booted and have to brave queues three or four times as a result.
I tried to pre-order the digital copy Japh but am only getting a page stating 'Star Wars: The Old Republic is not available in your region.'

Yes Drac, I saw that one too! But then, with 8 classes, that is only 5 per class (assuming they are split up that way). Still, given the depth of characterisation they are boasting, even that is going to be a lot of RP fun. From the clips I've seen, though, you can only take one with you at a time (as opposed to two at a time in the KOTOT games).
