The one time I motivate myself to post (which hasn't happened in months) I can't even use the post... I'm going to throw it up here just to show you all that I did...

Blackjack

Abalar couldn’t say that she was comfortable racing around on the tiny speeder bikes. The metal frame was cold and quite frankly painful. After the entire group had to jump that abyss, Abalar was really put on edge.

“I’m pretty sure they heard us doing that,” Abalar said over the squad channel.

“Agreed, but there was nothing we could have done,” the SL replied. “It was that or dive straight down the chasm.”

Abalar didn’t reply, and instead dropped to the back of the group of speeder bikes. At least this way she’d have more time to react when the next death trap appeared. All she could think about was being on the back of an animal, a warm, soft, predicable, safer animal.

“Stupid planet, stupid crystals, stupid base,” Abalar thought to herself over and over again.

Abalar’s instincts told her to look up, so she did. At that moment, she saw a flash of black on both sides of the canyon as they sped past.

“Anyone else see that?” Abalar asked

“See what?” Corvin asked.

“I didn’t see anything,” Saphira chimed in.

That other woman really was going to get on Abalar’s nerves. These new people weren’t Blackjacks. They hadn’t proved themselves to be anything other than an annoyance. They couldn’t just walk in and act like they owned the place. Who did they think they were?

Abalar didn’t respond. Instead, she glanced cautiously behind her, keeping one eye on the path ahead of her. There wasn’t anything behind them though.

“Abalar, did you see something?” Garryll asked. He trusted her. After all, Abalar had served as his ASL for a while, before Tanus, then Saphira had replaced her.

“Sir, I believe I did.”

“Take Corvin and a three of the scouts with you. Check our flanks. I don’t want any surprises later on down the road.”

“Yes’sir.”

Abalar spoke to the three scouts that were closest to her. “You heard the man. Let’s swing around and check. Be on guard though. I don’t want to have to patch up a hole in you chest if you get shot.”

The five of them slowed and broke off, Abalar and Corvin swinging around in the widest, slowest arc possible and the scouts turning on a dime.

“Stupid scouts,” Abalar said to Corvin over a private channel. She switched to the group channel. “I’ll take point. Corvin, I want you on my flank. The rest of you figure yourselves out. We’re going to head back down the canyon a ways then cut our engines. I want to be able to hear them coming.”
