Rukver looked up from his terminal; he was designing the latest simulation which would allow troops to spend days in training while being fed through tubes so that they do not run the risk of dying. This project has been a long time in the making as they have run into certain mental difficulties; troopers cannot seem to run for more than three or more days before collapsing from exhaustion and in a few isolated cases this has caused death. It was his job to design a program that would allow troopers to garner some kind of rest while inside the simulation that would allow them to feel refreshed in mind.

Seeing someone approach his glass door, Rukver quickly closed the newest sex simulation that was on his screen and opened the files containing his actual work. A knock on his door caused the Imperial technician to push the button that unlocked his door. Since one of the other techies went crazy and shot up the offices all techies with their own offices got a lock and blaster resistant windows. The man that walked in wore an army commander uniform and his rank denoted a gunnery sergeant.

Gunnery sergeant who’s also a commander? Things have changed since my kids served in the army. Running his hands through his salt and pepper hair before saluting the commander. Tipak, Rukver’s youngest had always told him that commanders always looked older, and it was apparent with this one.

“What can I do for you commander…?” He said hoping that his guest would fill in the blank.

“Rogueboy, I have need of your services.” The commander said as he pulled up the seat facing Rukver without asking.

“I am here to serve, sir.” Rukver said while internally moaning at all the distractions this man will cause him.

“Good, I have approximately forty troops who need to go through a radiation trooper armour simulation on a planet following these constraints.” Rogueboy said as he handed the technician a data cube.

Popping it into is terminal the holograph reader kicked in and showed the planet of Strak with its light gravity and short days. Rukver personally preferred light gravity everything seemed to require less energy unlike standard or heavy gravity.

“I’m guessing from these files there’s a plan in the making to form an offensive on Strak?’ Rukver asked, even though he wasn’t expecting an answer.

“Not allowed to discuss it, sorry.” The commander said flatly.

“I didn’t expect you to, it never hurts to ask. What weapons do you want me to load them with?” Rukver said as he opened a drawer filled with files, pulling out a folder he started searching through it.

The commander raised an eyebrow at the hard copies that Rukver kept. “It makes the likelihood of them being destroyed so much smaller.” He said as he pulled out a sheet quickly scanned the top and emitted a content sound. “This is the one; the squad will need to take a radioactive city while engaging New Republic troopers, well it’s really more of a town then a real city but it conveys what we want to accomplish. Is that satisfactory sir?”

The commander hesitated as he processed what the technician just said. “Yes that will do, I expect you and your team to personally run the simulation rooms. You will send a report to me every fifteen minutes detailing the squads’ progress, and allow them a more unrestricted load out short of their armour. Strak does not have radiation levels that would hamper or restrict weapon choice.” Commander Rogueboy said as he stood up to leave. “Oh and before I forget, Rukvek?” He continued.

“Yes sir?” Rukvek said as he groaned in his mind.

“I was instructed to let you know that you may find yourself rewarded should the training guarantee successful results while in mission, dare I say a boost in your budget to fund additional research?” The commander left the room leaving Rukvek with his thoughts.

Working throughout the night Rukvek had his team assembled and all the simulation rooms prepped when the first of the groups started arriving. They were meeting in an auditorium where the commander would give a speech detailing what was going on, than the teams would follow a technician to a room.

Rukvek hurried to the auditorium as he could hear the commander starting the announcement.

“You will each be assigned to a simulation room, where a member of our technical staff will load up a simulation that will hopefully gain you each some radiation trooper armour experience. I will be monitoring your progress and any I deem unsuitable will not be participating in the upcoming mission. You have your orders ladies and gentlemen I suggest you start filling them out.” As platoon commander Rogueboy left the podium the huge holoplate behind him broadcasted how the groups were to be split up.

The first group filed past Rukvek as a technical assistant carried a huge flimsiplast board with a huge black. “1.” Written on it.

Zafo filed out with the masses from the conference room where Gunnery Sergeant Rogueboy just finished his briefing.

"Why the sudden need to train us in radiation armor?" Zafo pondered.
The mystery behind it had Zafo more excited rather than skeptical, as many other faces hinted. He was also looking forward to working with a group of soldiers outside of Jesters.

Zafo was the first to arrive at his assigned simulation room, where he was asked to give the techie a list of equipment he wanted loaded into the simulator. Zafo handed the technician a diskette containing simulation information for his custom pistol, customized Nightfalcon speederbike, as well as a list of things he brought with him on practically every mission. The technician nodded as he loaded the disks contents.

"Alright, you're good to go." The techie approved, giving Zafo a thumbs up.

Zafo nodded his thanks and stepped into the simulator. He was surrounded by darkness for a few minutes while he waited for the rest of his group to get set. All of sudden, without warning, the darkness slowly manifested itself into indistinguishable shapes before spinning wildly. Zafo closed his eyes. When he opened them, he was standing in the middle of a road leading into a medium sized city.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The city looked as if it had been fought over for decades. Grim looking buildings stood tall and strong. Amongst them, shells of former buildings could be seen, some more intact than others. The outskirts of the city, or at least what could be seen, resembled a ghost town for the most part. Masses of grey clouds blocked out any evidence of one or several suns, though the dull lighting was more than ample to fight an entire war.

The Radiation armor's HUD differed slightly from that of a standard stormtrooper's helmet. It seemed slightly more sophisticated, though Zafo never relied too heavily on said technology. An indicator in the corner of the screen revealed that there was a low-moderate amount of radioactivity where he currently stood. Enough to be of harm to anyone not protected, but not to much as to effect the use of most weaponry or equipment.

Zafo turned his head over his shoulder to see the rest of the squad had loaded into the simulation, along with his nightfalcon. "Heh, usually the techies like to make me look for it."

"So whats the game plan?" The voice sounded vaguely familiar. Zafo's HUD revealed each soldier's name as he singled in on them. As he glanced over the last one in line, he new who had spoken; Tanus. Quite some time ago, Zafo had been his squad leader in the Dark Dragoons. However, such was a time when Zafo was in a very unstable place and often disappeared for weeks at a time. In the end, he resigned from the position to take time off from the army. He was aware that Tanus was now in charge of the squad he left behind.

"Tanus, it's been a while. I'm glad to hear you are in charge of the 'ole squad."

"Aye, it has. Things are going well for us, though we should save the chit-chat for later. We've got some proving ourselves to do."

"I say we move in to the residential area first, set up some sort of field base. We have no idea what we will be facing in this city, and it would be nice to set ourselves up a safe zone."

Zafo's HUD revealed the speaker to be another ex-Dragoon squadmate, Jennabelle.

"I think that's a great idea. Glad to see you are doing well, Jen." Zafo replied, scanning over the other three troopers once again, though not recognizing any. "All in support?"

All troopers agreed with the notion.

"Into the city we go." Tanus cheered with a fist pump into the air.

Zafo hopped onto his nightfalcon. The engine gave a nice little growl as he started it up.

"That doesn't sound stock parts to me." A soldier by the name of Specter chimed with excitement.

"You have no idea." Zafo replied with a chuckle. "I'm going to speed ahead into the residential zone and scout it out. If I run into any trouble, I'll notify you guys and come speeding back. Keep in touch if you see anything sketchy."

"Will do."

With a grin under his helmet, Zafo fiddled around with the accelerator, revving the engine much to Specter's amusement. The clutch dropped, accelerator floored and Zafo went speeding off into the distance...

Ror watched as the man on the speeder bike zoomed ahead of the rest of the squad. He smiled, that is one bad ass bike. He looked at the rest of his squad, hmmm I don't know any of them, well I guess I will have to stick to small talk. They started to walk towards the residential area of town. They walked for a couple of minutes before Zafo spoke on the built in comlink of the suit, "Hey guys we got about six New Republic soldiers sitting in the street with what looks to be E-11s. I am about a block a head of you."

Tanus spoke up now, "Stay where you are, we will be right there. Okay Specter, Jennabelle, and me will crossover to the left and enter the back door of a building and ambush them from there. Anival and Zorgn, you will meet up with Zafo and attack from his position. Now then Zafo give us your exact position."

"I am in the first build on the left on... hold on let me check the street name," we heard some movement as he went and checked the street name, "I am on Liptin street, you won't miss the house my bike is parked outside it"

"You heard him men lets move out," finished Tanus. Ror and the rest nodded and started to get where they needed to go. Tanus must be a squad leader. Ror, Tanus, and Jennabelle quickly ran over a street and started looking for a tall building.

"Tanus, Specter look right there" Jennabelle called into the comlink, she was pointing at a tall four story building that was previously an office of some company.

Tanus nodded and the three walked over to the building and entered it silently. Walking over to the window Ror pressed himself against the wall next to it and looked around and saw the soldiers Zafo was talking about, they were sitting there with weapons nearby and very relaxed. Probably sentries, should be an easy ambush. Ror looked down the street back towards where they came from and saw what must have been the building where Zafo and the rest were, inside he saw a glimmer from the metal of a gun, "Hey Zafo or whoever watch it I can see a glimmer from your weapon across the street." A second later the glimmer vanished into the darkness. Specter felt a tap on his shoulder and when he turned around Tanus was behind him gesturing him to move on to the upstairs with him.

Ror followed him upstairs and saw Jennabelle already crouching down low by a window waiting for everyone to get into position. Ror crouched down as well and went to the window next to Jennabelle and waited. "Everyone ready?," Tanus called into the comlinks.

"Ready"

"In position"

"Yeah im here"

"Read when you are"

"I'm ready" Ror finished.

"Lets hit em hard" Tanus said and he stood up and started firing. Jennabelle also did the same. Ror waited a second, being new to the army he hadn't been in many combat exercises so he was still nervous. He shouldered his A280 Heavy Blaster Rifle and fired off a couple of bursts. The fight was over in seconds as both sides opened up on the six unsuspecting soldiers the rounds tore through their light armor and they all fell to the ground. "Okay regroup in the center of street," Tanus said a second later.

"Roger," came the response from all the team almost at once.

Ror followed Tanus and Jennabelle down the stairs and out onto the street. This is gonna be one hell of a mission I can already tell.

The squad regrouped where their enemies lay slain. They posed little threat, especially since they didn't even see their ends coming. The radiation protection they were wearing appeared primitive in comparison with the Vast Empire's radioactive gear.

"Probably just un-important skirmishers deployed here to add some sort of obstacle on our way."

"Check the bodies, you never know what you'll find." Zafo proposed. Already he could see a pair of thermal detonators he wanted his hands on.

Anival and Zorgn approached the corpses with Zafo, while the others stayed in their places. Once he had the grenades secured on his belt, he turned to the rest of the squad.

"We should really get to some sort of cover...I don't like standing out in the open like this." Zafo suggested, gazing around the street for a place to go. One building in particular caught his attention.

"I think we found our base of operations." Zafo said with a grin, pointing to a movie theatre across the street. The outside of the building was very intact in comparison to some of the surrounding buildings. In fact, if it wasn't for the complete absence of people, you wouldn't have believed it was from a radioactive ghost town.

Once the squad passed through the pair of rotating doors, they were greeted by a large circular lobby. To the left, along the wall was a counter with several stations for the ticket salespeople. The far end of the room had several doors leading to the viewing rooms. The purply velvet carpet gave way to staircases on both right and left extremes of the lobby, leading to an upper deck that surrounded the entire lobby, looking down on it.

"Definitely would be an easy place to hold down and lay low." Tanus commented looking up to the upper deck

"I think there's even a way onto the roof!" Zorgn piped with excitement, pointing to an emergency exit.

"Ill go give it a look," Zafo volunteered, already on his way up the first set of stairs. The upstairs deck surrounding the lobby was very deep and would serve as an excellent place for the squad to position themselves in the event that they had to defend themselves from the theatre.

The emergency exit passage was very narrow. Just like Zorgn guessed, the stairs went either up or down. Curious as to what lay on the roof, Zafo squirmed his way up the stairs and out the solid steel door onto the roof.

The city appeared to be even more of a wasteland from the roof. From the roof, Zafo could see something he was not able to from ground level earlier. Off to the north west was a section of city that stood out from the rest like a sore thumb. Tall, solid black buildings stood menacingly immune to the destruction which existed all around them. A unknown banner hung across the front face of the tallest building. It appeared as though most, if not all of this "new" section was blocked off from the rest with a twelve foot high concrete wall. Taking advantage of the macrobinoculars built into the radiation armor's helmet, Zafo scanned more closely for an entrance point from the "old" to "new" city.

He found it. A large road ended at a large gate on the eastern side of the new section. The gate was protected by two small turret towers and a reasonable force of New Republic soldiers.

"I think we found our strike point. This new section of city appears to be of importance to them. Though we might need to find a way in other than that gate, it seems heavily guarded..."

A slight rumbling interrupted Zafo's thoughts. What started off faint grew louder and more noticeable.

"Zafo, do you hear that? Do you see anything?" Tanus' voice crackled over the comm.

Zafo scanned each street he could see for a possible source of the disruption, but found nothing. Until he turned around to look down the road the squad was on before.

"We might have a problem..." Zafo moaned as he gazed upon the source.
"I don't know if they are onto us, but we've got four AT-APs heading up the street..."

Four At-Ap's I thought we were the only ones to use them and that was only at the beginning of the civil war! How did the New Republic soldiers get a hold of them? Dammit no time to think about that, I have to focus on fighting them right now. Ror grabbed his D-280, which fortunately was a heavy armor penetrating blaster rifle, from where he had lain it on the ground. "We could just sit here and hid inside the building," Ror suggested over the comlink as everyone grabbed their weapons.

"No good Ror, they must have seen the bodies so they will be checking for us. Our best bet is to fight them," Jennabellle replied.

"Shes right Ror, now then Ror get up on the roof with Zafo and fight from there, the rest of us will attack at ground level," Tanus added as he walked towards the door. "We need to attack at the same time to avoid one side getting hit as hard. So wait for the signal"

Ror ran up the stair and pushed open the door and quietly ran over to Zafo's position and kneeled down beside him. "Hey Ror, aww a D-280 that will help with their light armor, tip of advice aim for the joint of the legs."

"Uhh right," was all Ror manged to say as he looked at the massive tripods walking down the street towards them, how are we possibly going to fight all those at once?.... thats it! "Hey Zafo you still got those thermal detonators on you?"

"Yeah why....oh nice Ror good plan," he switched on his comlink, "Guys wait for them to get half way past us, I will use the thermal detonators I have to one or two of them out."

"Good idea Zafo," someone said, Ror didn't know who.

"It was Ror's idea not mine," he said giving me a thumbs up as he said it.

They waited until the first two had passed by them, then the third was, luckily, was close to the edge of the roof and Zafo jumped up and onto the At-Ap. He preyed open the cockpit door and threw one of the detonators down. Ror saw the fourth one aiming a shot with its laser cannon at Zafo so he ran and jumped onto that one and put his gun's barrel on top of the cockpit and unloaded a dozen rounds.

Zafo jumped off his At-Ap just a second before it went up in flames. Ror on the other hand, was caught in the explosion and knocked off the tumbling walker. He hit the ground hard, but his suit took most of the impact for him. "awwwwww," he moaned as he tried to get back up.

When he saw the other two walkers slowly turning around he scrambled up and limped over behind a broken wall to take cover, Shit Zafo is alone on the roof now, I hope they didn't notice him jump up there. The walkers fired off a couple of pot shots with there laser cannons, not risking firing a blaster of their main cannon in this small of an area. Ror didn't think any of his team mates were hit but he wasn't sure. He checked his ammo gauge, damn almost out of ammo on this clip, its a waste but better change here then when I'm in the middle of firing at the walkers. Ror ejected his power pack and thrusted a new one in and made sure it locked in before checking around the wall to see the walkers still trying to find where they were, one had walked about 20ft. back towards them and the other was at the end of the street.

Sweat trickled down the Sergeants back as he lay pressed against a vent on the roof. That little stunt he had pulled took a lot out of him: not to mention his simulated life would be quite short if either of the remaining AT-APs caught wind of his location. That main cannon of theirs was not something to be taken lightly.

"Anyone have any idea how we are going to take these two out?" Tanus' voice inquired over the comm channel.

"Don't bother opening fire." Zafo piped in quickly. "None of our weapons will do much against them, unless you can hit where the legs meet the head from underneath. Even then, the only thing I'd hope for is disabling the third leg which might knock them over if they tried to fire off their main cannon."

"...So we've got nothing on them?" A voice unfamiliar to Zafo moped.

Zafo could hear the clanking of one of the walkers passing right by Zafo for the third time since he took cover back on the roof.

"We only destroyed one of the walkers, I only shot the shit out of the guys in the other one!" Specter chimed. "All someone's gotta do is make it to..."

"Done." Zafo interrupted, already sprinting down the stairs and through the lobby of the theatre.

"...you sure? I'm right there..." Specter added, somewhat taken back by Zafo's sudden interruption.

"Sorry Bud, but this is not the easiest machine to handle solo." Zafo stated, peering out the window to try and get a location on the other two mechanical threats. "I've just about finished my vehicle crewman training, I know how to work these things with my eyes closed. I need some kind of distraction while I make a bolt for it. Any takers?"

"Can I use the nightfalcon?" An excited Specter inquired.

"Eh, its just a simulation, why not." Zafo replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "Go."

The silence which had enveloped the past minute was broken by a stream of blaster fire coming from the two remaining AT-APs. The decoy was in action.

Zafo threw himself into a sprint across the decrepit road towards the stationary, intact walker. He effortlessly clambered his way up the machine and into the cockpit. Luckily, it was big enough for Zafo to drag the three New Republic corpses into a corner where they would be out of his way. What was not so lucky, were the damages from all the stray bullets that never met with their target.

"I don't know what kind of operating state the walker is in." Zafo said very matter-of-factly. "There is a fair amount of damage that was done to the cockpit's computers. I'm running a system's check now."

The screen scrolled through a whole bunch of systems and components, many were green, indicating normal function. Though many were green, the amount of red that was flashing on the screen was somewhat alarming. Zafo bit hard on his lip as he read through the failing systems.

"Well, for starters, this walker isn't moving anywhere." Zafo sighed. "But luckily, all weapons and the stabilizing leg are functioning."

"Then waste no more time!" Specter shouted. " These guys know how to aim! Some of these shots are coming too close."

Specter's immediate danger had slipped Zafo's mind. His hands sprung into action over the various control boards and systems. Within a matter of seconds, Zafo had diverted full power to the walker's main laser cannon and was steadying the walker with the third leg.

"Boom." Zafo muttered under his breath as he sent the first blast exploding into the walker. The enemy cockpit shattered as an explosion tore the walker apart. Shards of flaming metal went spewing in all directions. One of said piece struck the second walker in the side, nearly knocking it over.

"What a shot!" Shouted Zorgn with excitement. "The next one!"

"Not so easy..." Zafo said, concern rising in his voice. "Since I diverted all power to the blast, its going to take a short while for the cannon to recharge."

Zafo could see the final walker attempting to stabilize itself with the third leg. The long barrel was pointed straight at him.

"Damn, Damn, Damn!" Zafo shouted, beginning to scramble out of the cockpit. His shot was not going to be ready in time. Just as he was about to leap from the practically useless walker, he caught a glimpse of one of the squad sprinting to the walker. A hail of fire began erupting from the soldier's rifle, heading straight for the underside of the walker. Involuntarily, the stabilizing leg began retracting. The enemy's barrel glowed blue before erupting a powerful blast from the cannon. The walker, unable to hold itself up properly while using so much energy for the cannon slouched slightly, sending the power blast into an adjacent building.

"Get out of there!" Zafo shouted.
3...2...1...Ready!

"Next shot is charged!" Zafo shouted over the channel before unleashing another blast of doom.
This explosion was nowhere near as spectacular as the first one, but got the job done none-the-less.

Though he could not hear any but his own, sighs of relief emitted from every squad member.

"Well done boys, I say we get the hell out of here before we've got more trouble..."

Ror looked around at the destruction the fight had cause as he zoomed up to the group of on the Nightfalcon, "Sweet ride dude" he said into his com as he approached the group. Sadly he got of the nice speeder and gave the thing back to Zafo. The two walked back over to the main group together to discuss the next part of the plan.

"Before we get started you two did a good job taking out those At-Aps by yourselves." Tanus said and we all kneeled or sat down. Zafo nodded to him and Ror flashed a smile, before realizing that they couldn't see it. Tanus spoke up again a couple of second later, "Okay I suggest we scout the New Republic base in the town and find there weak point and exploit it."

"There base had watch towers, I say it from up on the roof, it would be hard to get close enough to find a weak point without being spotted at least in the front." Zafo added.

"Could we possibly fix up that At-Ap and sneak into the base?" Zorgn suggested.

"No it would take part we don't have to fix it, then it would take quite a while to do it even with all the tools and parts we would need," Zafo replied.

"So anyone else have any ideas?" Jennabelle said in an irritated voice.

"What if we jump a patrol for their uniforms?" Ror considered.

"No that would be harder then it sounds and their rad equipment is no where as good as ours. We need to attack the base." Tanus said

Jennabelle laughed, "what if we had one or two people blow up an entrance some where along the wall so the forces go after them while the others attack the base in the front, after we know for a fact the forces are at the other side of the base. We might be able to get into the base fast enough that we could fortify ourselves in somewhere and fight them as they return to the base."

"Hmmm that could work" Tanus said, "but do we have anyone who would be willing to go after the back and fight there?"

There was a moment of silence, no one wanted to take on that task because it would be difficult to accomplish. After a minute Anvail and Zorgn raised their hands. "We will go and blow up something along the wall," Zorgn called into the comlinks.

"You sure?" Tanus asked them.

"Yes Tanus we can handle it, you guys just need to get into the base while distract them. Do you think you can do THAT?" Anvail asked.

"Yeah don't worry about us we will be fine." Zafo said in excitement that something was getting done. "Ah hell you guys can even take the Nightfalcon to help get out of there afterwards if you want." He added patting it on the front.

Everyone agreed with the plan and set the time for one hour from now on the dot. Anvail and Zorgn would sneak around back and set off a demo charge some where on the wall, and then make a quick exit and try to lose the New Republic in the city and then bunker down if they were under hot pursuit or join them in the compound if possible. While this happened the rest of them would assault the front gate, Ror and Tanus would sneak up on the towers and bomb them out with grenades and then cut through the fence.

Anvail and Zorgn both got on the speeder, Anvail in the front Zorgn in the back, and zoomed off to scout for a good spot to blow up. The rest of them walked closer towards the base and hid inside an blown out office building. They sat around and waited 20 minutes to hear that the others were in place and hiding out for zero hour. Ror looked out the broken window and saw the base a little ways down the street with his built in macrobinoculars. It had a good sized force sitting around in the four one storied buildings and two towers.

Zafo walked over to Ror as they waited, "Hey Ror what squad you in?"

"Hmm oh yeah I am in Paladin squad." Ror responded turning to greet him.

"Cool, I heard some good stories about the fights you guys have gotten into to. How long you been in it?"

"A couple of weeks, not long at all. I'm still really green so this is one of the first real....good?.....combat exercises I have done"

"Aww I see, yeah I use to be Dark Dragoons squad leader but left and now I came back and am in Jester squad." Zafo sat down next to Ror.

"Cool, so I take you have been in quite a few missions, any other rad armor missions like this one?"

"Well..." Zafo was interrupted by the sound of Tanus' voice on the comlink.

"Its time everyone get ready in five minutes in counting."
