Well, it has happened. My laptop died. Again. This is the second time around that my computer has kicked the bucket. The hard drive died somehow and my computer wouldn't let me get to the main screen. There were no thunderstorms, or anything like that. I don't believe I did anything to provoke this (at least I hope not). But it was stuck between loading Windows and a number of choices that would let me load in safe mode, or attempt to start up again, or use last good configuration. None of them worked. So my dad bought a new hard drive off the internet the other day; we would've called Toshiba but my warrenty ran out maybe a week ago. The thing is with this new hard drive, I have lost everything on my computer. This includes my music (which I've spent a lot of money on. Don't laugh at me for not being 'smart' and not..downloading my music).

Does anyone know if you can load songs from an ipod back onto the computer? Also, does anyone have any advice on how to avoid another computer meltdown or is this simply inevitable?

I didn't check Dez's link, however I know that you can find out pretty much anything you need to know about iPods here.

EDIT: Third time's the charm for getting the link to work.

Just curious, but did you happen to try and fix the master boot record? That could be your problem, but unlikely. Just curious.

Google for YamiPod. Free and good. Plus, get some external HDs like they said, you won't regret it. The thing about electricity... hmm... it could...well, the outlet or something may have problems, giving more or less power at times. That's how my bro's pc ended up with a fried HD. If this is the problem, you should consider buying a UPS

I hear that Toshiba's are typically pretty crappy. My laptop uses a Samsung, and those are pretty good (no meltdowns for me).

As far as the music goes, if you have an iPod, you can most certainly transfer music from the iPod to your computer. People do it all the time. Since you're not using a Mac, you'll just have to simply get a converter for your iPod in order for you to plug it into the computer.

And yes, the best way to avoid any unnecessary losses of files, I would suggest getting an external hard drive. You can get external hard drives for real cheap by looking at sites like Newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, or zipzoomfly.com. I purchased all of my new computer's parts from there, and they've been great.

I found this Western Digital external hard drive for $94.99 (120GB), so it'll hold plenty of songs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136059
