Why are there stupid people in this world that make fun of what they don't care about? Why do people with disabilities need to be institutionalized all the time or treated unfairly?

I am writing this as i am in a mood today/tonight because i was treated badly as a young child due to my disability which is deafness, mild cerebral palsy and a few other things.

I had the same problems as you. And as some of you know, I jave a visual impairment caused by Hydrocephaly which has also gifted me with mild cerebral palsy and a few other anomalies.

I used to be frequently beaten at school as a child, but I'm getting past it Lams. I'm now sticking up for myself and with the help of the teachers at school, I lead a quiet , lonely school life.

It'll all come to pass. You have to learn to live wit hwhat the world throws at you.

The masses remains uneducated and treat anything they don't view within their definition of normality as a disease. Life will always throw that at you Lamel, but think about it...would you really be the person you are today if it wasn't for the hardships thrown earlier at you in your life?

You're letting taht small issue take over ypur present life it seems. You're doing the excat same thing as I did, but now I have the tools and self-esteem that I needed to move on to some other things like college and a decent career in whatever I want.

example: In our city's newspaper last summer was an article abput a man who is "blind as a bat". He flew an airplane alone, and he had flown 250 miles from the time he started 'till the day the newspaper was published. He's probably still flying as we speak.

Granted that I have neither of the "disabilities" aforementioned, I happen to believe I have much to learn from situations like this so that I might not be so callous if something similar were to arise in my own life.  Regarding the disparity that seems to disturb you, Lamel, I can only say that we must act in an opposite fashion by refusing to be beaten- we'll educate in what ways we must, but circumstances mentioned by either yourself or Luckystar should simply not be allowed to continue.  I urge everyone to fight indifference and defend those whom seem to be at a disadvantage, as they have gifts of the like we may never receive; I sincerely hope the best for both of you in your efforts and remind you that, as always, the VE and its members will be here to support and share in the joys of this life.

Several of my closest friends have disabilities and I've had to stick up for them on many occasions. I went to a particularly judgemental and selective school in high school, and all of the "elite" would look down their noses at my friends or beat them. I spent a fair amount of my highschool time in in school suspension because I would end fights for my friends.

I may not be the most understanding person in the world, but when it comes to abusing/tormenting/etc those with disabilities, I cannot abide it. You have my support as well.

People can definitely be cruel.  Hopefully you don't get down on yourself for what others do or say.  You have the power to think what you want about yourself; so use that power wisely and don't give it up.

No one is perfect in this world.  So by making fun of someone with a disability or an impairment only emphasizes the imperfections of those who are making fun.  They may not have what they are making fun of, but their heart and mind are more impaired for they have no love for themselves or others.

These types of people would rather point out everyone else's problems in order to ignore their own.  For if they could actually see and face the problems in their own lives, they wouldn't be likely to pick on others.

Because of their ignorance, it's a lot easier to make fun of something than to try to understand it.  They've basically taken the cowards way out.

I'm not sure that the whole world will ever completely embrace the concept of not everyone being alike. But you cant let it get you down.

If I see someone with downs syndrome, just a complete example, of course I look at them because it is human nature to try and work out something that is out of the ordinary. Once my mind has worked out that its a disability, I normally carry on walking. The one exception is if they look back at me, and if that happens I smile and sometimes say hello.

Some people don't as lots of people have said before me, and some actively use a disability as a weapon against the individual. It's no different than using someones sexuality, race or origin as an insult.

Anyone that does that isn't worth you time, and you shouldn't worry about them. I got picked on a lot, its better now but I still get the occasional jab. And I don't have a disability to speak of, it's just typical human bullying. I just saw the people that did it as pathetic, simply because they had to find a way to put me down just to amuse their friends or keep their self esteem high.

Plus, one of those days one of those people might need me, or you. If one ran up to me and asked me to help them with revision, I'd say they should have considered that before insulting me.

Anything out of the ordinary and you're ridiculed because of it. Don't let it get to you but don't hate the person who laughs at you either. He/She either doesn't know what you're going through or has problems of his/her own and this s the way of venting some blocked up emotion such as anger or guilt. so you shouldn't hate them for it because they are ignorant/uneducated about the problem of another person.

Maybe it just makes them feel big. If they're that kind of person then they're sad and pathetic enough without anyone adding to the list of insults for that person.

Okay..sorry if this might sound a bit dark to all of you, especially from me.

This is what life's about.
People stepping on other people.

Or life could be about the living it, just forgive and forget or whatever.

Life is all about from which perspective you look at.

And yes, you might think its easy for me to say, to live and let live. And it is.
I know its hard, but forget about other people, forget about them being bullies, and the problems of the world you cant fix right now. Thinking about that only drains your emotional energy.

Why allow someone to sap at your energy with their petty insecurities about life?

Lamel...the only person who will be able to help you would be yourself.

All these posts that was replied to you, is only words of comfort and advice.  They will not make it better. Why? Because its bin said and repeated across the world. These words have bin said so much, in so many books, by so many people that they have lost their cause, if thats the correct term to use, but yet they offer the meaning of people who still care. And you should find hope in that care, but finding the comfort, the answers....the answers of the questions you asked....is actually asking what is the meaning of life?

Because life is after all...not just about the flowers and the blue skies, but also about the storms which rages and destroys those flowers, yet they grow back, greener and maybe even stronger.
Only you can make it better for your own quality of life.

Call me whack, but this is my philosophy.
I hope all goes good, I wish the best for you.

Orobos has aptly pointed out that which may be among the greatest challenges: forgiving those who harm us.  It's just as easy to hate as it is to bully or become cruel- true strength lies in the ability to reconcile differences and repent for one's actions and, in turn, forgive those egregious acts committed against us.  Affected as that may seem, we truly fight our human nature to hate when we engage in situations like these, where irrational behavior, born of either ignorance or cowardice, prevails and makes those who would usually challenge into an indifferent species.  Again, I strongly urge people to draw a line- conflict is not wrong if it is for the right reason, but even after the conflict passes- don't hold grudges.
