Rogueboy lifted his head from the slumped position he had on the table, if he heard Darr correctly then perhaps the boredom that has plagued the squad since their last mission might be lifted.

"I want you to go assemble the squad in the training simulation rooms, I want to try a new simulation I ve been working on and see how it affects a squads shooting." Darr had said.

"What kind of simulation_" Rogue replied hardly able to keep the boredom out of his voice as he had asked the question.

"The simulation entails Gungans who have been infected with a virus of my creation, they need to eat living beings in order to survive. They re brain dead and move slow, but the kicker is only a shot to the head will kill them. Go get the squad."

Rogue had quickly sent messages to the squad and began heading to the barracks room in order to rouse whoever might be sleeping, they had a simulation to experiment with.

Pointless. Its all pointless, what’s the point of even trying to find out now? Leon had been searching for a good two weeks, trying to find something out about his past. He came up empty handed, the same results every time, none of them pointing in any right direction. He had lost all hope, and it was beginning to matter less and less every day. Leon knew he didn’t need to know anything about his past to survive; he had his family here, Raiders.

But lately strange things had been occurring. He had flashbacks, images of gruesome scenes stopping him dead in his tracks, one almost killing him. If something like that happened in a mission, it could cost him one of the lives of his squad mates, or even himself. He didn’t tell anybody however, for fear of someone snitching and getting him kicked out of the corps. It was all he had, and if he was AWOLED, where would he go?

Yes he could start a new life somewhere, begin anew, but what would he do? And would he have enough money? He just couldn’t risk it, no matter how close he was to the squad. This was something he had to fix on his own.

Leon walked into the empty barracks, making a beeline for his room. As usual, he and Rogue Boy’s dorm was a mess, clothes strewn all over the floor, and a couple of beer cans laying about, most of them belonging to Rogue. The faint smell of Ciggarillos lay in the air, making Leon cringe in disgust.

“I really have to buy one of those cleaner droids,” Leon said aloud, hoisting himself onto his bunk and falling on his back. He sighed, closing his eyes, the darkness enveloping him. He let himself drift in and out of consciousness, trying to rest as much as possible before his workout later on in the day.

Just as he was about to drift back into sleep again, a high pitched repeated CLINGING noise erupted from down below. Leon shot up in surprise, anger written all over his face as he turned towards Rogueboy. He hated being surprised when he was in moods like that, but he quickly concealed it and let a smile drift across his face.

“C’mon Leon, we have a training mission today. Gotta work out the rust.”

“Rust? You act as if I’m in as bad shape as you,” Leon replied, punching Rogue jokingly on the arm.

“Shut up, you know this is from all my drinking. If I didn’t drink so much, I’d be huge!!” Rogue said, flexing his biceps, and putting on a constipated look.

“Mhm, keep thinking that Rogue. Get like me, and then we’ll call it even. So what’s this training mission about?”

“Ooooohhhhhh, you’re gonna love it, but I can’t tell you until the whole squad gets to the simulator room, so don’t go nagging me the whole time.”

“Alright, sounds fun, let’s get this started.”

Darr-Rann nodded to himself with satisfaction as he viewed the object model he had received from the holoscanner – It was perfect.

During the selection of the simulation, the squad leader had realized that his energy shotgun would be perfect for fighting off the legions of the brain dead. With a bit of work, he had integrated the weapon into the simulation for his personal use.

He stood up from his chair and checked his watch – the squad still had another hour before they were to report to the simulator facilities at Echelon Academy. He had some time to burn.

He minimized the IDE he had been working in and opened up his holomail client. He took a quick look, trashed the junk mail (Which somehow even managed to get past the advanced filters placed on the corps accounts) then frowned. No word from Kal.

The pilot had disappeared again on another futile search for his parents. The young pilot (who Darr-Rann considered his brother despite no blood relation) had never known his family, and for what must have been the third or forth time the pilot had left the Vast Empire in search of them.

He sighed and closed the application, getting up from his chair as he did so. He had some things to do before the hour was up.

Another short post for the stack.

Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep!  Aphamos instinctively reached to his side and picked up the alarm clock, throwing it at the wall in front of him.  A thump ended the beeping as he pulled the sheets off of himself and sat at the edge of his bed, thinking about the jumble of wires and plastic that was now on the ground in front of him.  That’s the tenth one now.  You have to stop doing that.  The snooze button is just so conveniently placed.

He let out a small smile-something that he was starting to do less often since he had gotten back from the previous Raiders mission.  Aphamos had discovered that his girlfriend had been taken somewhere by someone, captured against her will.  The people who had taken her broke into Aphamos’ room and were searching for something that, judging by the state in which they had left the room in, they hadn’t found.  He sighed and walked over to the sink, not bothering to step over the clothes that littered the path to the bathroom.

He splashed ice-cold water onto his face, futilely trying to rid himself of the numbness that his rest had given him.  Regeneration through sleep was a foreign thing to him now; he rarely had time to get any rest and, instead, had a caffeine-delivery routine to keep himself awake and energized.  Even despite all of that, the only think that could really take away the numbness that Aphamos felt was battle.  Fighting.  Confrontation.

Aphamos lazily put on his uniform before he checked his datapad for any messages.  An icon came up saying that he had received a message from Rogueboy when he had been asleep.  He opened up the file and read:

Sim room at nine in the AM sharp.  We’re going to kill cool things this time!
- Sergeant Rogueboy

Dammit.  We just got back from the last one, ass.  He rose to his feet again and headed to the door, grabbing a caffeinated energy drink from the drawer next to the exit.  Aphamos quickly glanced around the room before leaving, taking mental pictures of where his things were in case there was another break-in.

Aphamos opened the door and before him stood a man about a head shorter than him.  He had platinum hair and a thin scar lining the side of his neck.  Aphamos crossed his arms and examined the man even more, trying to see if he had changed at all.

“You’re back?” asked Aphamos.

“I’m back,” replied Eviscares.

"Please brace yourself sir, we are landing", the Droid said and then walked down the aisle to tell the other people on the shuttle the same thing.
Eviscares slipped the safetybelt on and closed it while staring out of the window. The city beneath him was just about to rise out of the shadows, the sun not more right now then a red ball over the horizon.
The skyscrapers that stood in the center of Sianat were shining golden in the rising sun, but between them the shadows still were long.
Not that Sianat was a particulary dangerous city to walk around, it could sometimes get nasty for people who weren't used to it.
This thoughts brought back memories of some particular visits to the city at night that D'kaleth had undertaken with Kami and Angel to get a little bit of "Live excercise". Kami and Angel. He hadn't seen them in ages. The two were just like him Nomads going where the path would take them, but he was sure that their paths would cross once again.
The shuttle landed and the vibration that accompanied the landing was enough to get Eviscares out of his thoughts. He got up, grabbed the Duffel bag which stored most of his belongings and was on his way.
After having left the Spaceport he quickly got ahold of a Taxi that took him to the outskirts of Sianat.
There stood a boring looking hangar that he had rented when he left the planet for the last time. After entering the combination code, supplying a voice sample and sliding a magkey through a lock the doors slowly opened and there she was his baby, the "Vanguard". The shuttle he had received once as a reward from the High Command and since then it had been his home.
In it were most of his personal belongings as well as his gear when he wasn't at Tadath. When he was finished staring at the pictures in the passenger compartment and dreaming of times went by Eviscares changed into the standard Stormtrooper Dress Uniform, led his Swoop down the ramp in the back of the shuttle and was on his way.
It wasn't long before the massive imperial Complex came into sight and the nearer he got the more anxious he got. He hadn't exactly left at the best terms with Raiders leader Darr Rann, but now someone wanted him to come back, considering him needed.
Then he was there. He passed the gate after showing his ID, parked the swoop and strode over to Raiders Barracks. The comunique had told him to meet up with Sergant Aphamos
"Sergeant, huh" he thought. Aph had risen through the ranks too.
As he stood in front of Aph's room he could hear some rummaging in it, so he decided to simply stay outside and wait.
Crossing his arms he leaned against the wall.
The surprised look on Aphamos face was worth the wait.
And after mustering him the Sergeant asked:"You’re back?"

Eviscares flashed a smile and replied:"I'm back."

LK-486 finished combing his hair, and approached his bunk in the barracks. Laid neatly over the mattress was his usual black jumpsuit. After zipping it up, he holstered his ancient scout blaster in the built-in holster. Although an E-11 carbine fan, LK always felt that a side-arm was important, especially for a medic. After checking his holster, LK picked up his messenger bag, which contained all of his first-aid equipment. He preferred it to a backpack, but was sure he would need to ditch it if Rougeboy’s sim called for armour.

LK checked his chronometer. By his watch, he had exactly thirty minutes before the sim. Just enough time to grab a bowl of something hot to eat. LK-486 made his way to the mess hall, nodding his good morning to raw recruits and seasoned soldiers alike. He even saluted to a superior or two. Upon arrival to the mess hall, the smell of army food mixed with a high-powered cleaning solution nearly destroyed his nasal cavities. LK took a deep breath, savoring the smell of the military. He then fell into line.

As his ration plan did not exactly cover steak, LK treated himself to a white glop from a bubbling pot that smelled strongly of turpentine, and a biscuit. He took his tray to the middle of the hall, and looked around for a place to sit...

Rogueboy entered the simulation room with Leon; the rest of the squad was assembled and Darr was going to give a little speech on this new training simulation.

“Alright guys, this new simulation will hopefully increase your accuracy out in the field, by using simulated zombies that can only be killed by damage to the brain or spinal cord. I recommend avoiding melee weapons because it will make this test pointless. You may however “bring” melee weapons as a last resort if they get really close. We will not be using any armour in order to give our adversaries a little advantage.” Darr took a sip of a bottled water to clear his strained throat, a remainder from a common infection. “The simulation will start us off at an intersection in simulated Tadath. There will be barricades set up on three sides of the intersection with buildings that we can garrison in should we feel the need on the un-barricaded side. Questions?”

“How will the squad be divided up?” Rogue asked.

“I will be taking one point of the intersection with Marka and Eviscares. Rogue will take another with Aphamos and LK. Finally Namyr will take the final entry point with Leon and Sayah. Of course these may become muddled up should we need to retreat. Also remember they can only “kill” you if they get close to you, so keep em at a distance. Lets roll!”

Rogueboy entered the simulation and was in the “armoury” part of the simulation and began arming himself. Rogue walked through the many aisles of weapons and reached out and felt the guns as he walked by, finally he decided to take his standard A280 with dual .50 slugs with twelve clips. Rogue’s weapons were missing a little bang and as he browsed through the aisles he chose a one shot reload grenade launcher and six grenades which he wore around his belt. Rogueboy looked through the melee weapons for something that matched his usual gladius but he didn’t find one so he imagined it and it appeared on the floor.

The simulation began and it was just as Darr had said it would be; three speeders were parked to offer obstacles to the undead hordes. Aphamos and LK were standing next to him ready to defend themselves until the blood be sucked from them. Rogue also had a last resort which he was saving just in case he should be overrun.

The first Gungan zombie crested the slight inclination down the road and a bolt from a blaster tore through its chest followed by a few more rounds, one of which hit its skull. “Getting a little sloppy there Rogue.” Aphamos said as he sat on one of the three speeders that barricaded the road. Rogue put the rifle down taking his eye away from the rather shitty scope.

“What the sun was in my eyes.” The trooper said as he let the rifle hand down around his neck as they waited for a wave of enemies. Things have been a bit icy with Rogue and the rest of the squad ever since his attempted desertion.

Five minutes later

“Theres no force-damned end of them.” Rogue said as he quickly emptied a clip on full auto as the massive amount of corpses began piling up. “Reloading!” Rogue screamed as he ejected the empty energy pack and began pulling one off his belt.

Aphamos quickly began firing suppressive fire to keep the gungans at bay while Rogue was reloading but it was useless they were going to be overrun in a manner of seconds. That’s when they received the call.

“We’re losing the north part of the intersection we’re going south to regroup and might barracade ourselves in one of the buildings.” Darr said as the three troops abandoned their defending point and regrouped with the other soldiers in time to pull  back.

Unlike the protagonists in fiction the Storm Troopers were not as dumb to let the threat come near enough them that pulling back would be a real problem. A problem though was that Eviscares was rolling with a squad  again after a long time of solo action and so acted a bit out of place.
When Darr yelled:"Squad, retreat to the building southeast of the crossroads, Rogue you take point!", everyone except Eviscares sprung into motion and did his job. Simply out of habit he knelt down and started laying down even more surpressive fire, just to find that that Twi'lek and LK were on the same task.
Just as D'kaleth  realized that 3 persons covering the retreat were one too many according to Imperial Infantry Strategy, Darr gave new orders. "Corporal Eviscares, get over to my position ON THE DOUBLE! You are not rearguard!. The other two slowly catch up with us.".
Evis sprang to his feet, turned around and ran as if all hell was after him to the building. His Backpack with Demolitions equipment threatened to throw him off balance once.
The city Darr had chosen was littered and run down. Windows broken and messages of the last survivors written across the walls. Those were either religious writings or pleas for help. It hadn't helped them. Several Humanoid corpses in different stages of decay were laying along his way. Some of them appeared to have been partially eaten.
All this he realized in those split seconds it took him to catch up with Darr.
The Squad leader was standing in the doorway, whereas his squad had positioned themselves at the groundfloor and first story windows to provide covering fire.
Darr pulled Evis inside, and told him what he wanted done. Evis confirmed and then the two troopers  bumped their helmets against each others. Darr moved up to the first Floor and as he arrived there made himself heard through the comlink:"Namyr, LK retreat immediately. Evis, set everything up as told and execute as soon the two are in the building. The rest" a moment of silence ensued "GIVE 'EM HELL!". This was the command everyone had been waiting for. The troopers at the windows let loose a shower of well aimed blasterbolts and the occasional slug. LK and Namyr got up the moment they received their orders and ran to the doorway in which Evis set up the last detpacks. He then stood back and watched the rearguard run up to the building the Gungans were held back but somehow they seemed to have gotten more and were now only a couple of meters away from LK and Nams. As soon as the two were in he screamed into the comlink "Fire in the Hole!"  and jumped onto Namyr and LK, pulling them to the ground.
As all three hit the ground, D'kaleth pressed the button on the detonator.
