I;m actually not a big War Movies fan. I suppose my favourite ones that I can think of off the top of my head would be:
Kelly's Heroes
Saving Private Ryan ----------------------- ASL/SGT AlanRJ/3SQD/2PLT/1COM/1RGT/1BAT/Tadath/VEA [ES2]

Saving Private Ryan is the best war movie ever made, hands down, no contest. ----------------------- SCRW/FM Vasili "Decembrist" Rustam/Sentinel 3/Flight 1/STCR Doashim/Defensive Fleet/VEN/VE [SoA] [SoV] [CBV] (=*A*=)
My friends tell me I should run. They say that she's got a gun; but that just turns me on. Right on.

Starship troopers was a good movie in terms of action, but I dont think it was that good story wise. Just a big special effects showoff in all honesty.
But yeah, Svaing Private Ryan without a doubt. Or maybe We were Soldiers, thats not bad either. ----------------------- Lance Corporal Kanderin Draken

Well it did have a better storyline than the second one but in terms of proper War movies I would have to say The Great Escape. ----------------------- "You think you can run this ship better?"

Last of the Mohicans is a deadly film, but i think that Pearl Harbour was terrible.Even though I love aeroplanes.Still, the love triangle ruined it.

Full Metal Jacket was the first bloody movie I saw. That movie was also good. We watched it in secret. my mother didn't like the beginning of it, so she forbade us to watch it. But we watched it anyways. ----------------------- TRP/CPL Luckystar/1SQD/2PLT/1COMP/1BAT/1RGT/ Tadath/VEAVE [ES1]

Late to the show, but absolutely love the Kelly's Heroes votes.
I'd argue The Longest Day just for how freaking huge of scope the movie took. Not to mention the cast. ----------------------- PRF/GG Fury/VEA/TADATH/VE [MoHx2][SCPx2][PoC][SotE:HC][SotE:VEA][SCP][MSM][IOC]

Aye, Fury makes a good point about The Longest Day, It had John Wayne, Red Buttons, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda as well as other big names of the time. And the movie encompassed ALL of D-Day, as apposed to fallowing only one group it did what it could to encompass all of it. It's a hell of a long movie, not something I'd watch very often, but worth seeing at least once.

Man, you all have covered it all. Firstly, I didn't think anyone but me liked Kelly's Heroes. Sutherland was great as the hippie tank commander, and well Clint Eastwood, who doesn't like him.
Secondly, I only just recently watched Saving Private Ryan, like within three months. I heard it was a long movie and it had Tom Hanks and just thought it wouldn't be something I would like. It was great. I've watched it three times since then and I love it. It has a really good story.
Lastly, there are to many war movies to mention. When I grew up war movies and westerns were all there was. The Guns of Navaronne and Patton are a few that weren't mentioned along with countless others. Even the Good, the Bad and the Ugly had a war scene, but does that make it a war movie? No, not really. But one of Clint Clintwood's other films was more so, the Outlaw Josie Wales. Now that was a good movie. But was it a war movie?
It had elements of the civil war and Eastwood even attacked a prison camp with numerous enemies in a war type situation. What is it that makes it a war movie and what wars are we talking about? Braveheart is my favorite war movie of all time. Specially when they show thier asses to the English and the one dude gets shot in the ass. Now that was funny and war.
I don't know and I can't say. I guess the first question would be to ask, What is a war movie? Give us a definition first of what a war movie is. ----------------------- Grammar, mechanics, punctuation, spelling, diction, effectiveness in the science, and larger elements are the facts at hand.
