Well, I was browsing through, and I had a thought. A lot of times I'll make a post, or go trolling for somebody, and realise, hey, they aren't here. So, I wait, and wait, and wait, and then they show up at some odd hour my time. So I had a thought, what if, like under the avatar or rank, or someplace, was a place to post your time zone, so people would know about when you would be on.

It's just a thought.

Best place to put it would be in your accounts Profile area.

Da, but I was hoping for like, a little selector thingy, that you could like select from a dropdown your time zone and have it show up somewhere, like on the roster or something.

Because...it would be cooler and easier if it was just part of the profile options or something, like when you sign up.

Your signature, maybe, but not your ID Line. Time zones are Earth-related. The ID Lines relate only to the SW universe.

And, really, if people wanted to make a big deal about it, it could be added to the Profile section, but then you'd have to convince Kad as to why he'd need to spend his time coding that in.

( Just saw this topic)

Good luck doing that Alater. You'd have to somehow send it to him and you'll hjave to somehow finad a good reason for Kad to add that option to  about 3300 accounts and up.

I think Kad writes his own code - then there's the convincing him as to why we should have it in the first place. You'd need a popular vote as well, and I'd definately give my "nay" on the topic.

Why? Because I think it'd be much more efficient to have (under your avatar) the name of your country instead of a time zone. The FES currently have that system - country under their avatar.

Think about it. If you had "Pacific Standard Time" and "Eastern Standard Time" under everyones names, you would have to assume that everyone knows that EST is 3 hours ahead of PST. For most, that particular example is general knowledge, but when you start talking about comparing PST to a time zone in the UK, then you'll find most Americans pretty ignorant in that respect (including myself in terms of Time Zone naming conventions and their repsective "hour-to-hour" comparison with other nations).

Now, if I saw a Filipino flag under someone's name and an American flag on another, then I'd say "Oh, ok. That guy's 15 hours ahead."

I'm more of a visual person, so I look at the time zone issue on a geological perspective.

Tome zones are most usefully denoted as UTC+/-X (Coordinated Universal Time)/

For example, CST is UTC-6, England is in UTC.

Alright, I'm all against causing Kad anymore pain and suffering than really necessary. Not just because I'm a nice guy and I like sucking up (did I mention my back rubs are awesome ) but because it'll slow down future releases of the comnet and i believe there's still a bit Kad has up his sleave and because it's not that terribly important. If you really have to let some one know your time zone then smack in down in your sig.

A more "proper" place would be in your profile. Personally, I'd rather keep the signatures as least cluttered as possible - containing only relevant military information.

As to the many different time zone issues, I was refering to GMT I believe. -6 for example is Central. Then if somebody, it's around England I believe is 0, it's like Ok they're 6 hours ahead. I know the US timezone lines and that's about it, so if you told me somebody is from, say Finland, I would have no freaking idea what time it was their time.

As for asking Kad to put it into his code, that would just never happen. He's way too busy to bother with something like this, I was just bringing it up in the hopes that it would be looked at in the future.

And finally, as to the sig, yea it probably should, if anywhere, be placed in the profile.

(Sorry, been gone a bit)
