To Whom it May Concern:  Hello, I just signed up.  I wish have done a little reading and know what the general procedure of BT is... I would like someone's assistance with this task.  This looks like a pretty well-run place, and I only hope that I come to enjoy it even more as I get to know everybody here.  BTW, I don't mean to sound cocky or anythng, but I'll bet my summer wages that none of you know more about Gettysburg than I do   Consider this a challenge to any Civil War buffs that may be lurking out there.  Anyhow, I again say hello to all.

Finished my bio... Feedback, anyone?  (I enjoy a little constructive criticism.)  Enjoy.

Character Bio - Sol

General Information-
    Name: Solomon Larith
    Nickname: "Long Sol" or "Sol"
    Age: 27
    Species: Human
    Date of Birth: 18 BBY
    Place of Birth: Bespin

Physical Description-
    Height: 6' 5'
    Weight: 178 lbs
    Hair Color: Dark brown
    Hair Description: Short, w/ sideburns
Facial Hair: Small stubbly beard on chin, also brown
    Eye Color: Black
    Build: Long and lanky
    Shoe Size: 16

Personality-
Likes:  Flying, tinkering with machinery, souping up ships, drinking and cards; also enjoys watching swoop races
Dislikes: Mentions of his family, intellectuals, most other people and disorganization (probably due to his mechanic's need to know where everything is)
Has something of an angry attitude about him, always wants to get things done right the first time, and has a volcanic temper with a sharp tongue.  Has an affinity for strong drinks and female mechanics.  Hates crowds and prefers to be alone with his machinery.  Chooses his friends very carefully and is naturally cautious; not a huge risk-taker, save for the occasional poker game.  However, Sol will work with people when he needs to, and can be very agreeable if one knows what buttons to push (mechanic talk, for example, is a good way to get him to not hate you.)

History -
Solomon Larith, the oldest of three sons of Vanni and Tarn Larith, was born on Bespin approximately 18 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin).  His two younger brothers, Aren and Ton, were his constant companions throughout his childhood years.  They studied with him, hung out with him, and helped him whenever he needed something done.  All three of them helped their father, Tarn, with his duties as a mechanic in the Cloud City Security Force's motor pool.  However, Tarn was forced into an early retirement, due to deteriorating health.  In order to keep food on the table, Sol had to quit his studies and take over Tarn's task of servicing a squadron of the CCSF's cloud cars.  Sol had an appetite for mechanics and engineering, but often found the work to be tedious and boring.  As Sol came of age, he began frequenting the local pilot hang-outs, chatting with all of the hotshots and aces, after finishing his work for the day.  He befriended a pilot by the name of Lyal, who turned out to be the pilot of one of the cloud cars that Sol regularly serviced.  The two became close friends, and when he wasn't on duty, Lyal often came to visit Sol while he worked.  They often taught each other tidbits about their jobs: Sol showed Lyal how to repair this and that, and Lyal pointed out all of the various controls and instruments in his craft.  Sometimes, they both got into Lyal's cloud car, Sol in the gunner's pod, and flew all over and around in the endless skies of Bespin.  Eventually, Sol developed rudimentary piloting abilities, whereas Lyal became more proficient with his mechanical skills.  It was in this way that Sol first learned to fly.  After many months, Lyal was transferred to another sector of Cloud City, and Sol was alone this time, for his brothers had both left Bespin for a life in the Rebellion two years earlier, 1 BBY.  They became officers on a capial ship, the Defiant.  Sol still worked his shift day in and day out, until his father perished from illness.  Vanni and Sol were grief-stricken.  Sol began to develop a temper, and shot back at anybody who tried to console him.  He eventually began to drink and did not like the company of others; he preferred to be alone.  And that's how life was for Solomon Larith.
As he neared his 21st birthday, Sol began to get into trouble, mostly bar fights and such.  But one day, as he was working on one of his vehicles, a fellow mechanic by the name of Tainn began speaking about Sol's father.  Sol became enraged by this, and promptly hurled his hydrospanner at the man.  Tainn suffered a concussion and several broken vertebrae from the impact, and Sol was fired for the incident.  Sol began to drink harder than ever, and soon he spent nearly all of his time in bars and cantinas, begging for drinks and money.  His elderly mother, Vanni, passed away as well, and Sol became self-destructive.  He blamed himself for the death of his parents and resolved to go straight from here on out.  As hard as he tried, however, Sol could not resist the allure of liquor, and he was often drunk.  It was at this time that the Empire showed up on Bespin, in the form of Darth Vader and his stormtrooper entourage.  Sol was pressed back into the mechanic's service in a frantic effort to get every vehicle available ready for an evacuation of Cloud City, "just in case" he was told.  Sol still frequented the local bars, and as he was having his usual ale, a group of Imperial pilots turned up in the booth next to him.  He found himself in conversation with them, and they convinced the now-drunk Sol to enlist as a cargo pilot.  Thus, Solomon now flew cargo shuttles for the Empire, from Corulag to Bonadan, three times a week.  As he continued to fly different runs all over the Empire, Sol became a competent shuttle pilot.  When he was on leave, on Abregado Rae, he encountered his old pilot friend, Lyal.  Lyal was now a pilot in the Navy, and he took note of Sol's skills.  After reporting Sol's abilities to his CO, Sol was transferred (with his consent) out of the supply corps and into the Vast Empire Naval Academy. This shift happened around 8 years after Yavin. So all of Sol's years of being a mechanic, and then a cargo runner, cumulated into this chance for Solomon to take his temper out on someone else... while getting paid to do it.

Service Record-

Enlisted in VEN- 4-7-07

P.S.- I intentionally made Sol oversized, it adds to his frustration sometimes, but he finds having to contort himself into a cockpit humorous, if uncomfortable.

The explanation of "BBY" is for clarification purposes, not because I don't believe you guys don't know what it is.  I just like to put things like that in my writing so I don't have to answer a barrage of quetions about what something is, that's all.  I'm not trying to talk down to anybody at all- I merely wish to have all bases covered in the interest of comprehension.  And, BTW, thank you for the welcome.

Maneuvers Assignment

1. The Break Turn -
This maneuver is pretty simple- just break to the right (roll to starboard 1/4 turn, then pull back on stick to come to desired heading, then level out by easing off the stick and rolling 1/4 turn to port) or left (same procedure, but start with a roll to port and finish with a roll to starboard.) This move is used as an offensive weapon, in order to cut inside of the enemy's turn radius and thus close with him, or to simply get him in your sights. The Break Turn can also be employed as an evasive maneuver- a hard and sudden break will leave the enemy wondering where you went.
2. The Barrel Roll -
To perform a Barrel Roll, the pilot must simultaneously pull back on the stick and roll, so that the craft is looping around a central axis in a spiral, hence the name Barrel Roll. This maneuver can be utilized to bleed off excess speed if the pilot is going to overshoot his target (resulting in the pilot drifting right into "money lane" for the enemy.) This allows the pursuer to stay behind his target and get him in his sights. In a defensive role, the Barrel Roll can be used to make a pursuer overshoot you, thus letting him fly right in front of your lasers and get vaped. Good timing is required, but the Barrel Roll could also be used to dodge incoming missiles or laserfire.

Wow, way better posting than I did when I first came here. I hope you get into the Kaph squadron.

We are an elite flying force that needs new recruits like you.

You'll fly past me in a month.

Alright, your good to go.  Manuevers look good, and you seem to know how things are going around here.  I'm placing you into Nazgul Squadron.  You can post your intro on the Navy Main Comnet under the Nazgul Topic.  Your commander is Trevor, and he should be able to help you out once you join.  From there, your next step is to take the Aviators exam.  Once your finished, you can send that to me on the message center built into the comnet system on here.

Good luck, and keep up the good work Pilot!  You are now part of a fully active squadron!

Apologies to everyone around, lol- it's been tough trying to get back.

I'm going to have to say that I really liked your bio.  A lot of people, myself included, either don't post the true intentions or emotions of their characters because they can't be revealed at this time or because they don't know what they are.  You seem to understand your character very, very well.  Also- your time line is very accurate and coincides well with our destination in the SW universe: good job   I have not further contentions with your bio, but I'm sure it will become of far greater interest as your opportunities for expansion grows with the arrival of squadron stories.

I'm going to pass your maneuvers as well because you put them into simple terms and seem to understand them just as well as your first assignment- a good understanding will serve you well in future stories.

Right now I'd like to get your proficiencies set up, which is basically our way of judging your character's natural abilities against others.  Over time, as you post certain qualities of your character in multiple stories, we'll assign you points that you can allocate to any of the skills you wish, allowing your character's skills to grow and become more honed.  Follow the link below for a better understanding and post your decided proficiencies here.  If you have any questions you have but to ask myself or Arturus: we should be able to get back to you rather quickly.  Also- you'll need to complete your Aviator's exam in approximately one week's time: that way you'll be ready for active service.  As for your squadron- give me a day to consider: I'm still weeding through my messages to see what's really going on in our groups.  Thank you for your patience: welcome ot the Vast Empire Navy.
