G'day VEN
Recently I've been entertaining the idea of starting a Navy character since we all know that blowing stuff up is more more entertaining when done in space ^^
The question I put forward is as follows:
Would someone be able to create a Navy character with the purpose piloting capital class ships
I recently read through my considerable store of star wars books and decided that big ships are where it's at. Though zipping around in a TIE and getting into dog fights can be amusing to write about, nothing beats ordering a full broadside from 20 heavy turbo laser cannons, each the size of a Fighter.
Now I realise due to restraints in the VE that this strange request might not be possible, and I do realise that Star Destroyers are not easy to come by, but I think that writing in a commander of say a corvette or gunship with capital class combat as well as fighters might be entertaining and enjoyable for myself ^^
But yer, just wondering if a character along those lines could ever exist.

Although i would'nt trust my word too much, cant high ranking Navy members pilot capital ships already?
Through training (and a lot of it) you can pilot a capital ship. But i guess in answer to your question, no you cant just create a character designed to pilot Capital Ships. The Navy wouldn't let just about anybody pilot their most expensive ships, now would they

I admit I'm not too knowledgeable of the workings of the VEN :P
But in my recent readings (not actually VE related) :P there has always been a distinction between the fighter core and the Navy, I guess the character would enter as a un-battle tested captain or something, I don't actually know....heh

I would assume that you would start out as some type of officer onboard a cruiser. Then work your way up. -----------------------

As it stands right now capital ship duty is extremely limited and restricted due to the number of members. Until such time as some new navy framework is established it will probably remain that way. As it stands there are 3 members on capital ship duty, 2 others in positions that aren't directly in squadrons, and the rest are in squadron. There will probably be little change there any time soon. and there will most certainly not be any more ship captains for a long time.

If you start now, you'll work your way up there eventually, while the members is still low on the Navy side. That is, assuming you think you can run two characters at the same time. -----------------------

Good question actually... The topic is actually already being considered, but probably not on the scale you're thinking. I mean, you could maybe start off in a fairly low position on ship and work your way up, but we can't actually give you a ship of your own to start off with. However, one thing that could accelerate your transition would be to transfer your Army Rank to Naval Rank- I forget how it is, but we drop you a few ranks in our system and call it good  Either way, you've brought up a decent question, and as of right now, I can only admit you into training and put you into a squadron, though those stories are going to be opening up a lot more. My thoughts are that too much of anything is a bad thing- all things are good in moderation. If you can spend some time on ships, some time in fighters and some time on the ground to truly develop characters and the fights that ensues- you're in a decent story. What can I say, we're privlaged ^^. Pay is better too.
I can only think of three memebrs who are not currently in active squadron duty but are still writing. This is not counting people such as Shazam who work the acadamy, but I'm refurring to Toki, Art and Amason (although Amason is still in our squadron story for now.).
