Well, boredom and the history channel seem to have conspired to make me miss flight sims. It seems the entire genre has pretty much evaporated though, so I'm now turning to the masses.

Looking for something that a person can just pick up and play, or at least come close because I'm going to want to play it with my little brother and have to deal with a minimum amount of angst and confusion. Also, I have crimson skies. I'm sick of it. Don't suggest it. Although something similar is game play would be acceptable. Doesn't matter if it's a bit older. Although I still want at least some shiny graphics.

I have always stood by TIE Fighter as my all-time favorite flight-sim, except for the minor problem that my laptop for some reason is unable to play it...

European Air War is a good old-school WWII sim.

This is more of a role-play flight sim with a pretty decent storyline: Freelancer

It has a SW mod as well.

Freelancer is an amazing game.  You can keep playing after finishing story mode with an ultrapowerful ship.  The only problem is that you can't use a joystick.

I thought you could use a joystick in freelancer? dunno, been awhile since I played the demo. Fun game, but not exactly what I was looking for.

I found Heroes of the Pacific which is close enough to what I was looking for, although really I wanted something a bit more modern/futuristic, but this has a nice pick up and play value that will work nicely for LAN games with my brother.

Now just to get a new joystick, my quite archaic MS Sidewinder is getting a bit sloppy. And when I say archaic I mean really old. Doesn't look anything like the Sidewinders of today.

I've been playing X3: Reunion lately.  Joystick control, stunning graphics, good replayability, and more realistic physics than any of the SW sims.  I do still play XWA a bit...when I'm feeling sentimental.    I used to play Comanche 4, and Falcon 2.0 alot (yes, I know it's old).
