You've read it on #Serpent_Cove's Topic. You've heard it while eavesdropping on story planning conversations. You've heard people talk about how excited they were about it. And now, it's here! StarCraft:Trial By Fire is a story by post set in the Starcraft Universe after the original game that leads into Brood War. An Introduction has been posted soon. It's easy to join.
Notes:
1. Just because this is not a squad mission does
NOT mean you are exempt from making quality posts. Not chatspeak, no L337, no stupidity. Standard English is recommended. I can not stress this enough.
2. Garet will help moderate this story a bit.
3. No knowledge of Starcraft is needed as much will be explained. It is advised you wiki Starcraft if you are unsure of details.
4. No posting on the story until further notice. The introduction is there for simple reading while the final details are finished.
5. A post on the selectable character types will be up soon.
For now those are the rules. Updates will happen and notices will be posted if there are any. For now, if you are interested you many post below to say it.

Below is a character creation guide. It is very vague as I didn't have much time. More will be added later, such as protoss pilots and zerg units. Terran:
The Terran Dominion has a wide variety of specializations for it's men.
Infantry:
Regular army men deployed on the everyday battlefield. They were standard armor and have standard equipment so there are some variants.
Marines(Privates):
Armor
Weight- 60 pounds
Reasonable Mobility
Performance Enhancing Drug Injector
Usual Weapon: Gauss Rifles
FireBats(Corporals):
Armor-
Basically, an enhanced, heavier version of the marines armor equipped to support the trooper's flamethrower.
Usual Weapon: FlameThrower
Medics:
Armor-
A lighter version of the armor equipped with medical equipments. White in color.
Usual Weapon: None
Ghost(Specialists):
Armor-
A lighter and stealthier suit. It is equipped with a huge amount of special features. Only troopers with at least a slight telepathic sense can be Ghosts.
Usual Weapon: C-10 Canister Rifle
(Newly added, some ghosts have more enhanced guns that have multiple functions such as grenade launching, lockdown capable(the ability to lock down mechanical objects), sniping and anti-armor.)
Pilots:
The Dominion possesses several vehicles and ships that need piloting.
Goliath A mobile walker equipped with dual machine guns and anti-air rockets.
Vulture Speeder Bike- A speeder bike, fast and has the ability to lay mines along with some minor weapons.
Arclite Siege Tanks A tank, in short. It contains the special ability to switch to it's secondary cannon, and while bracing itself to the ground delivers long range heavy fire.
Ships-
Wraith Fighters- General fighters equipped with burst lasers for ground, and missiles for air.
Drop Ship- an unarmed or poorly armed armored transport ship.
Battlecruiser These are huge ships, manned by an equally huge crew.
Protoss
The Protoss military contains advanced technology and provide highly advantageously powerful armor and weapons.
Zealot:
The average protoss warrior. A relatively medium armor that has leg enhancements and plasma shields. Each arm is armed with a psiblade.
Dragoon:
A four legged shell that resembles an animal. Veterans or injured Protoss who wish to continue fighting but lack the physical condition needed to continue reside in a metallic shell controlling the dragoons every move. The dragoon is armed with a phase disrupter cannon.
The Templar Caste-
High ranking Protoss rarely engage in hand to hand fighting. Instead, some decide to lend their strength through the practice of psionic magic such as calling electrical storms. Their armor is light as they refuse to wear anything that may disrupt their psionic energy.
Archons-
Two templars may give up their life to merge into a weapon of distruction. Engulfed in energy field, the Archon uses heavy psionic blasts, acting as a demolitionist.
The Dark Templar Caste-
Fomerly banished brethrens of the Protoss, they have now joined the fight against the zerg. Their new technology introduces the shadow warriors. These are armed with powerful warp blades which surpass the psiblades in strength. However, their armor provides less protection though they make up for it with a personal cloaking system.
The Dark Archons-
The creations of these powerful entities were once outlawed though times of stress has forced the Protoss to suspend these laws. The Dark Archons do not attack directly but rather use powerful mental abilities such as the ability to briefly control another being. (Archons and Dark Archons are not recommended as they are unintelligent and serve just as a weapon. Of course, if you are comfortable with the concept, I don't object to it.)
The Zerg
The Zerg swarm has incorporated many species since it's rise. It's swarm consists of the most deadly and feral of beasts.
Zergling- Small, quick and deadly. Though they are not the mosty enduring, they can easily tear troopers to shreds with their two deadly foreclaws.
Hydralisks- They consist the bulk of the swarm army. They are highly volatie, armed with deadly claws as well as the ability to shoot poisonous spines from their carapace.
Mutalisk- Fast-flyers. They breed special glave worms which they shoot out at incredible speeds as an attack. These worms break off into smaller pieces, hitting things nearby as well.
Guardian- Slow by powerful. Resembling a flying spider, the Guardian bombards the ground with toxic spores. They are borne from mutalisks.
Devourers- Also born from mutalisks, they can shoot out clouds of toxic spores that corrode the armor of enemy ships.
Lurkers- An advanced breed of the Hydralisks, they dig into the ground with their claws and then shoot a row of subterranean spines. These rip through unsuspecting enemies, killing them.
Ultralisks- Heavily Armored Melee Units. They resemble biological tanks, able to endure a seemingly unreal amount of punishment. They are armed with huge kaiser blades on their forearms which they use to rip through metal and flesh alike. They also to trample anything smaller than them.
Defilers- non combat support. They can secret certain poisons that help their allies or hurt their enemies. They are also cannabalistic, preying on other Zerg to recover their health or energy.
Queens- Troops that help hives in growth and production. They can spread parasites, shoot out eggs at speeds that destroy things instantly which then hatch into broodlings and also slow enemies down with a powerful sticky green goo.
Overlords- They are commanders of small swarms and also provide transport. They hover over enemies, detecting what is usually invisible to the naked eye.
