  Preparations (Nightstalkers)

"Another storm on Tadath. This planet gets more rain..." Kairo trailed off as he walked down a glass hallway that connected to adjacent buildings in the command sector of the Army headquarters. It was filled with technicians and attendants transferring from one building to the other, going about their business. The pitter patter of rain glancing off the ceiling and walls created a soothing melody that echoed the many footsteps clicking off the polished floor. The only way rain sounds better is when you're in the jungle. Stopping in the middle of the hall, Kairo turned and leaned against the railing, staring out onto the small lawn area. A granite walkway planted into the grass wound its way around the area. A few bushes jutted out from the earth and a tree or two hung over a set of benches. A puddle had formed in the middle of the area where the rain was collecting. A streak of lightning illuminated the area, casting it an ephemeral lighting. Dark became light and what was light became dark, creating a look of another world. If only for a moment, Kairo wished he could have stepped into that world and left this one with all its cares and worries behind.

Enough of that, time to get to work again. Child's dreams anyways. Pushing off with his elbows, Kairo straightened up and composed himself. Striding down the hall, he merged with the crowd and headed for the Nightstalkers' briefing room.

____________________________ Ten Minutes Later ____________________________

Sliding into the chair at the head of the table, Kairo looked over his documents one last time before the squad arrived. The first was a message from Jak asking for a short leave for personal matters. With the amount of hours he had stocked up, Kairo wouldn't have been able to turn Jak down if he wanted to, but with Jester taking care of the only important mission at the moment, he had gladly given Jak the time he needed. With Jakireth gone though, Nightstalkers would have nothing to do, which was the main reason he had called this meeting. In Kairo's experience, troopers without a leader or mission had only two options: become lazy and lose their skills or grow restless and create minor annoyances. The best way to fix this was to give them a few simulator runs, and with Nightstalkers relative newness, the squad needed the extra training.

The first sign of life was Alan, a newer trooper with some potential. Kairo hadn't personal met him before-he hadn't met most of the squad for that matter. The next two people to show up were Leon and Christina, the only two troopers he had experience with. Both were still too green for Kairo's liking. It took a couple of more minutes for everyone to arrive. During that time, Kairo remained silent, staring down at his datapad the whole time. He didn't even look up when they entered.

"You ask him." Kairo heard Christina whisper.

"No, you ask him." Alan responded.

"I'm not going to get in trouble."

"You're the ASL and a higher rank."

"You're right, so I order you to ask him." Christina said smugly.

"You cheated." Alan grunted. Raising his voice, he asked, "Uh, sir, we're all here. Uh, did you call us here for a reason?"

Kairo lifted his eyes from the datapad and looked at Alan. There was a brief silence in which the room grew uncomfortably silent. Always good to keep them off balance. Newer troopers sometimes are a bit too headstrong for their own good. After extending the silence for another few agonizing seconds, Kairo sat up straight and replied, "It has come to my attention that your squad leader is away at the moment and that you haven't been on a mission for a short bit of time. I am going to take this opportunity to exam all your individual and squad skills and make sure they are up to par. If not, well, the exercise should provide you with enough training."

He waiting a second for the implications to sink in and continued, "So, we are going to go on three short training simulations that I have prepared. Each one will test and train you differently. A simulation may separate the team and see how well you do individually, or it may give you all an objective that is otherwise unattainable without working together. Now, seeing as your squad leader is missing, I will be taking his place. This will give me a chance to get to know you and exam you first hand. I find it's the best way to see how the troops in my squads handle themselves. Reports from your leader just aren't the same. Now, I am not going to be giving you any details on the simulations until they have started, and even then, only a few details. I want to see how well you adapt. You don't really know anything except your main objective on the battle field, and being mobile infantry makes that objective change.

"The armor for each mission is provided, but I'm giving you the option to give me a list of the weapons you want. It has to be within reason. So, I want you to compile a list of what you want and need and then meet me at simulator room twenty-three in one hour. That should be plenty of time. I would bring a set of clothes you don't really care about, because you are still going to sweat for real. Oh, and if your chosen equipment seems a bit too much or doesn't suit the mission, I will modify it. If you have any questions, ask me at the simulator room. That is all. You are dismissed." Standing up from his seat, Kairo exited the room before the squad realized what was happening. Keep them off balance Kairo. He though to himself. Every element that tries them physically and mentally are needed to see what their true potential is.

Turning down a side corridor, Kairo headed for the simulator room to finish preparations. Haven't gone on a mission in a little while, even if it is a simulator. I hope I haven't gotten rusty. In truth, the training mission wasn't just for Nightstalker squad.

(OOC Short and sweet. Nothing too complicated as of yet. I would like to see a post from everyone about what their character does up until they reach the simulator room by Sunday. That should be long enough. If you have any questions, send me a message or e-mail. Let's do this! )

Kantar Walked into the briefing room, seeing only Christina and Alan, he assumed that he wasn't late for the Briefing.

Approaching the two, he spoke up, "Hey, Christina, Alan, i haven't missed anything have I?"

Alan was the first to respond, "Actually Kantar, Gunnery Seargent Kairo just left, you had better report to Training room Twenty Three within the hour, Oh and make sure you have all the supplies you need, as well as some ratty clothes, Gunney promised this was going to be quite a workout."

Kantar's face lit up with Glee, "You mean we finally get to do something?!?  It's about time, I was getting extremely bored."

You keep talking like that Kantar", Christina chimed in, "but I bet you'll change that tune after going through one of Kairo's training sessions."

"I guess we'll see then wont we, I'll see you two there." and with that Kantar proceeded to the barracks to write up his list of requested equipment for the training that would son be happening.  After getting everything prepared, Kantar changed into his PT clothes from Basic, and started Heading toward Training Room #23.

Christina had spoken a little with Kantar and Alan before making her way away from the breifing room, towards her quarters. She would have to change and get ready for their training sim, which she hadn`t really been breifed much about herself.

They had the option to ask for any weapons which they may have needed, but imagining that Kairo would have picked out everything they would need, she didn`t bother making a list. If she would need something during the sim, oh well, she`d have to make due.

"Some crappy clothes eh? Well, I`ve got a whole bunch of those." She said to herself as she looked through a small dresser, pulling out a pair of pants with a whole in the knee and a t-shirt with a hole on the right shoulder about the size of a large coin. She grabbed a pair of boots and put them on, taking her time to lace them up. She wasn`t in much of a rush, considering the amount of time she had to get to the breifing room. Maybe a bit of food or something would be in order now...I am kinda hungry... She thought to herself as she looked around her quarters. Sometimes she would take things from the mess hall that wouldn`t go bad overnight, like fruit, and have it inthe morning insted of having to walk all the way to the mess hall.

Today she got lucky, finding a peice of fruit sitting on a small night table and after washing it off quickly, ate it slowly, enjoying its flavor, still not in much of a rush. When she finished she wiped her hands on her jeans, and began making her way out of the room.

It was now only 15 minutesuntil they were all supposed to meet, and checking her wrist chrono, she imagined that by the time she got to the sim room she would be right on time. She walked around a corner, and spotting Alan, ran towards him.

"Hey, how`s it going, looking forward to the sim?" She asked, somewhat enthusasticaly, walking next to him.

"Yeah, I`m glad we`re finally doing something." He replied, keeping in stride as they arrived at the door. "Ladies first?" He offered, hitting the access on the door. Tina nodded and slipped past him into the room.

Finally thought Alan some action.  Since Alan had qualified from the Academy and placed into the Nightstalkers squad he had seen no action whatsoever.  Now he sat in the briefing room waiting eagerly to hear what Sergeant Kairo was going to say and finally where they were going to go.

After being bullied by the ASL, Tina, Alan had queried why they were assembled.  His look of shock was evident when Kairo had told them they were to go on a training sim.  Christ Almighty thought Alan I've just finished training and instead of an assignment, we get shafted with yet more training.

Shaking his head dismally, Alan departed the briefing room.  On the way out he bumped into Kantar and told him about the training sim.  Tina looked at him leave with some concern on her face.

"What's up with him" queried Kantar

Tina shrugged, "I guess he's not a fan of training sim's"

Heading back to his bunk, he collapsed on the bed and sighed.  Taking his blaster from his back holster, he twirled the weapon around thinking about shooting Rebels, heck, shooting anyone he thought.  Not today it seems he said to himself inwardly.

Looking at his watch he realised that there was not much time left.  Better get this over with he thought as he headed towards the training room.  He spotted Tina ahead of him and he raced forward to see her, at least she'd be there.  That should brighten things up he thought.  Looking at her he realised that she still looked as lovely as the first day he met her even though she was wearing a few tatty clothes as ordered.

Tina asked him if he was looking forward to the sim.  He replied "yeah" to her, even though he put on a slightly sarcastic tone which he thought she hadn't picked up on.  "At least we're doing something" he said to her, which was true, he felt like he was going crazy being cooped up with no action.  He patted his blaster reassuringly; at least he'd get to shoot at something, even if it was just training targets.

Leaving the briefing room, Kairo headed straight for the simulation area of the base. Didn't seem many of them are going to like this simulation. They probably think they'll be shooting at droids from across the room to improve their accuracy, or some other lame thing they did in drill. Heh, Drill sucked. Kairo thought back for a few minutes and let his feet do the guiding. As he recovered from his day dream, he found himself already in the simulator area. Need to really pay attention more often.

Shaking off the weird feeling from not remember the past few minutes, he stepped next to the control panel and began to check to make sure the program was perfect. Any glitches and the whole simulation could get wildly out of control. Something he did not want happening to this batch of troopers. Three missions, three sets of equipment, and three different environments means a lot of stuff to go through. Thankful that he had an expert technician do the main programming, Kairo mainly went to work checking the things he wanted to make sure were set correctly.

With a small whoosh, the door to the room slid open, revealing two members of the squad. "Is it time already?" Kairo asked, glancing down at his chronometer.

"No, we're just early sir," Jayson answered, walking across the room to look through the viewport. "So, we'll be in there?" Jayson asked.

"Where else would we be?" Lion responded.

"He has a point," Kairo added, still going through the program's files. Moving out of the main program, he set the machine to standby and turned around. "Did you see anyone on your way here?"

"Just Kantar, but he was headed to his room. Probably be here right on time," Lion responded. "So, what exactly is this going to be like?" he asked nonchalantly.

"Nice try, but you'll have to wait. Why don't you just step into that room and wait for the rest of the squad to arrive. They'll be here," Kairo looked down at his wrist, "A few minutes. That is if they aren't late."

"Roger, sir," Jayson said and walked into the room. Lion followed a moment later, looking a bit displeased that he hadn't gotten any information out of Kairo.

True to Kairo's word, the squad was assembled in the simulator room only a few minutes later. "Alright, we're all here, so we can begin. Now, as you can see, there is a nice technician on the other side of that window who will be making sure everything runs smoothly. Once the simulation starts, there will be a moment of darkness in which you won't see anything. During that time, a list of your equipment for the first mission will scroll by, and then the fun begins. You'll get the rest of your information on the other side. Ready?" Kairo asked, but didn't wait for a response. Kairo raised his hand and gave the technician a hand signal.

A feeling of weightlessness washed over Kairo, as his mind was fed information and he gradually entered the simulation. All he could see was black for what seemed an eternity. Then, a listing of his equipment began to scroll down in front of his eyes as if on a computer screen.

  Standard Equipment:
    1x Storm Command Armor
    1x Jet Pack
    1x ES-23 ESPO Riot Gun
    1x DC-15 Blaster Pistol
    1x Hush 98 Comlink

  Personal Equipment:
    1x Kylon-3 Blaster
    15x Knives
    2x Thermal Detonators
    1x Flash Bang Grenade

Kairo had chosen the first set of equipment for everyone. It was the squad's normal weaponry, so he had decided it was best to do the first simulation with that. The personal equipment had been his choosing for this particular mission.

As the world started to resolve around him, Kairo felt the weight of his new equipment descend on his body. Flexing his hands and feet, Kairo positioned his body comfortably. Suddenly, a massive explosion ripped through the newly formed world and made his ears pop. I think I set that to be a bit too loud. "What the hell!?" Kairo heard Kantar yell.

The squad had materialized in the middle of a war zone. They were surrounded on all sides by towering buildings, with a building that was larger than the rest nestled amongst them. They were positioned behind an overturned hover vehicle, and most of the squad had taken the initiate to squat down behind it like Kairo. "Simulation, pause." Kairo said, and the world suddenly stopped. "Well now, I hope that woke you up. As you can see, I put us directly into a battle. In this world that I have created, our Empire has finally reached the Core and is now in the process of taking over Curascant. Now, none of his has taken place or may never take place, especially the layout of the cities defenses. This is just a training simulation anyways. It's not to prepare you for the real thing. So, we have already bypassed the planet's shields and taken out the Naval force in the area. Well, we're still technically dealing with it, but anyways, don't worry about that. Right now, the Army's main objective is to capture the capital building, the senate, and any other government buildings.

"Right now, we are right in front of the Capital building. There are four turret towers surrounding it along with enemy troops on the ground and such. I won't give you a detailed description; because we wouldn't know what we are facing if this was real life. Our objective right now is to destroy or to capture that turret tower." Kairo pointed at the tall tower to the right of them. "Any questions?"

Alan raised his hand. "Uh, how are we supposed to survive this or even get to that tower? I can already see that there are blaster bullets flying everywhere and its mass mayhem."

"Good question. We'll be flying. Hopefully you have been practicing. I have." Kairo grinned-a lot of practice, privately of course. "Oh yeah, and anything that goes on in here to you, you will feel. Say, you're leg gets chopped off. You'll feel that. You get a blaster shot in the chest. You'll feel it. This isn't to say you will die or actually sustain any true physical injury in the real world. This is just to motivate you not to think you are a god in here. You will feel pain to the point of you actually dying. Once you die, you leave the simulation. Oh, and even after coming out of the simulation, you will still feel some of the faint pain. This is because your mind still thinks you are wounded. It should go away relatively quickly, but sometimes it takes a few hours or a day for you mind to completely recover. Don't worry though, you won't still feel like you've lost a limb if that happens in here. Mostly just physical muscle pain, scratchs, burns, tears, gashes, and the more minor injuries. Now, you ready?" This time the squad knew he wasn't going to wait for them to prepare. Grasping their weapons, they looked determined to take out that tower if it was the last thing they did. Good. "Simulation, start."

The world jumped into motion once more; noise blasting into Kairo's ears and air vibrations from the blast a moment earlier beating against his body. Pulling the Riot Gun from behind his back, Kairo held it on his hands as he engaged the jet packs engines. Turning on the comlink which was attached to his helmet, he sent orders to the rest of the squad. "Kantar, Lion, and Jayson, you fly with me. Christina, you lead Alan and Leon. Stick as close as you can to my team as you can Tina, but if things get thick, you have my leave to break off. Our first objective is to take out that top ring of turrets. Either fire into that small area where the turrets are poking out, or be creative. Just get it done." Kairo pulled out his flash bang grenade and armed it. "We launch in," he lobbed it over the side of the vehicle, "Three, two, one." A bright light erupted on the other side, giving the cue to lift off. Hopefully, the light would blind or distract anyone who would have been firing at them, if only for a moment.

Soaring through the air, Kairo skimmed across the surface of the ground which led to the Capital building. Jayson, Kantar, and Lion following right behind him. This should be fun. Kairo thought sardonically.

(OOC Ok, now you have some fun stuff to do and work with. Good luck. If you have any questions, send me a message, e-mail me, or post it on the NS board. Let's have some fun. )

Tina walked into the simulator room as Alan held the door open, he followed her inside and noticed that the remainder of the Nightstalker's squad were already assembled.  They listened to Kairo's instructions as to what was going to happen.  Not giving too much away thought Alan.

Suddenly the room was plunged into darkness, so black was it that Alan couldn't see anyone or anything, even though he knew that the rest of the squad were right in front of him.  He began to think that this training sim was going to be whether or not they could find the exit when a list of equipment scrolled in front of him.  He noticed that they were being given the standard DC-15 blaster pistol.  He grimaced and wished they would upgrade their standard issue to his more preferred DL-44 heavy blaster pistol.

Before he had time to reflect about it the world started shimmering before his eyes.  Finally he thought.  Then all hell broke loose.  An earth shattering explosion rocked his senses as he dove down for cover.

"Christ almighty!" he exclaimed, barely hearing himself speak as he ears ringed.

Alan barely heard his friend Kantar exclaim "What the hell".

The squad listened as Kairo explained to them where they were and what their objective was.  He was glad to hear that he was being paired up with Tina.

Pulling out his riot gun, Alan fired up his rocket pack and followed closely behind Tina.

Kantar couldn't help but smile as he skidded to a halt closely behind Kairo, this simulation almost reminded him of his times catching bounties in the Outer Rim.

Looking down as his rifle, almost wiped the smile off of his face, looking at Kairo he spoke "Gunney, I remember you saying something about a list of personal equipment, is there anyway of getting your tech guy in the control room, to replace this fragging rifle with an E-11/M Marksman Blaster Rifle?"

"Oh?, Fancy yourself a sharpshooter there Trooper?"

"Yes Gunney, most of my bounty jobs were assassinations anyways, so Sniper rifles became a hobby of mine, a really good hobby."

"Fine Trooper, Tech, please change Kantar's rifle to an E-11/M model."

With that Kantar noticed the rifle in his hands change to his requested rifle.  Looking to his left, he saw Tina's team land, catching Alan's eye, he flashed him a quick grin, as well as a thumbs up.

Turning back to Kairo, "What now Gunney?"

After switching Kantar's weapons around, Kairo scanned the area up ahead to make sure things were going to plan. "What now Gunney?" he heard Kantar ask from behind him.

Ducking behind a piece of concrete which had been blasted up from the ground, Kairo responded by saying, "You tell me. I know how to finish the objective already, so I want you to give me a plan of attack. You have fifteen seconds. Otherwise, I take over." Kairo couldn't see Kantar's face through his helmet, but from the loosing of his grip on his weapon for a moment, Kairo could guess he had totally thrown Kantar off balance. "Ten seconds." A laser shot skimmed by Jayson's head, causing him to jerk down farther behind the slab.

"Uh, We should...." For a moment, Kairo thought Kantar was going to fail, but then a shift in Kantar's stance gave Kairo a reason to smile. Good. That only leaves five to test in a command position. "We'll fly as close to the ground as we can all the way up to the tower, shooting any ground troops we can, but our main objective is the building. Once we arrive, we'll make a sharp pull up, and skim across its surface to the top. We'll make a pass by the main turret hole, getting a glimpse of what's inside and also to throw any grenades we have inside it. We'll pull back around and fly into the chaos. Hopefully, they'll be off balance enough that we can take them out." Kantar finished breathlessly. He hadn't stopped through the whole thing.

"Nice work," Kairo said as he shot over the slab with his Kylon-3 and hit a trooper who was making a break for them. "Lucky shot," Kairo explained. "You hear that Tina?" he asked into the comlink.

"Most of it. We going to do it?" Christina asked.

"Yes, but I want you guys to climb the tower from the other side. That way, we'll be hitting it from both sides. I also want you to launch a few seconds after us. If the ground forces or turrets turn most of their attention to us, we may have to break off, but you'll be able to get through."

"Roger." Tina responded. Kairo looked across the area to the other team's position and saw them preparing to launch.

Sending them a hand signal, Kairo said to his team, "Get ready, we launch in five. Four." Kairo slid his Kylon-3 back into its holster and grasped his riot gun. "Three." He then positioned a thermal detonator where he could easily reach it. "Two." A flick of his wrist initiated the jet packs launch settings. "One. Launch." Kairo flew over the slab of concrete and dived as close to the ground as he was comfortable with.

The world had now switched around him. The ground was now a wall; the Capital Building became a far off ceiling; and the sky reached up behind him. Firing a quick burst from his gun at an approaching outcropping of rubble, Kairo allowed his eyes to methodically move across the area ahead of him. Any area which could hide an enemy soldier popped out at him. If anything moved, he would shoot, not aiming to actually kill, but distract them long enough for his group to fly past. If one of his shoots made contact then Tina's team would have an easier time.

Kairo jinked to the right to dodge an incoming missile and noticed he had placed himself in line with a pole sticking out of the ground. Throwing the controls to the right, he rolled to safety. That was close. Unable to look back, Kairo could only assume his team was still with him. A quick shot to his right ended an enemies life as they continued their approached on the building. Half way there.

(OOC Relatively short, but I figured you would actually want some form of direction for how to proceed. At least, that's what I got from the end of your post Kantar. Anyways, keep up the good work guys. )

Kantar kicked his jetpack into high gear, staying relatively close to Kairo, rolling to the left of the missle.  Taking aim, he dispatched two Rebels before catching up with Kairo.  Activating his commlink, he brought up a request, "Gunney, permission to take up position on the edge of the tower's coordinates, in order to provide sniper cover for the strike teams."

"Permission granted Trooper, you sure you'll be able to provide cover for both teams?" Kairo asked.

"Gunney, that's like asking if the Hutts are Greedy."

Kairo, couldn't help but smile, "Well put analogy Kantar, don't let me down."

"Of course not Gunney", and with that Kantar veered off in order to take up position, finding one that would allow him to keep an eye, on both teams, as well as protecting him from Rebel Fire.

"Alright Gunney, I've got you covered, 'Tina, I've got your team covered as well, just think of me a your friendly guardian Angel.  Gunney, just give me teh signal, and watch 'em drop like flies."

The jetpack was an odd device to Tina. She honestly would have prefurred running around over flying, but considering she had no other choice, she would have to make peace with the heavy equipment on her back. As they first took off she drifted clumsily to the right, but managed to straighten up and hoped that nobdy had noticed her issue.I suppose that being an ASL means I`m supposed to have good control over everything and everyone I work with...whoops... She thought to herself, slightly annoyed because of her lack of knowledge and experiance with the jetpack.

Unlike Kairo`s group, Tina`s group had headed off to the left of the Capital building. They had been placed in two seperate groups for a reason, and that reason was to help confuse and thin the enemy forces. If they had to concentrate on a pair of groups insted of a single group, their forces would be spread thinner and less likly to do serious damage.

They zipped along low to the ground, beginning a wide arc which would eventualy lead them around to the side of the Capital building. For the most part they seemed unopposed, and the little opposition they did run into was quickly dispatched by skillful shots from the group of Imperials. Tina spotted a pile of debries ahead of them, and quickly slowed down.

"Alright, we`re going to stop up there for a minute to figure out some sort of plan." Tina explained quickly as they shot towards the pile, before pulling herself into an upright position and landing behind the pile of rubble. She turned to watch the rest of her group land in a similer style, and behind her she could hear the sound of blaster bolts burrying themselves into the debries.

"Any ideas?" She asked, eyeing up the group. She couldn`t see any facial expressions due to the helmets, but was kind of thankful for that at the same time, considering she probably didn`t look one-hundred percent confident at the moment herself.

Before anyone could reply though, she was hearing a plan being discussed by Kantar and Kairo, and was soon told that that was the plan they would be following. She quickly relayed it to her group and then took a peek around the corner of their barrier. A bolt whizzed past her head and she ducked back in.

"looks to me like they have us covered. I saw maybe four or five of them sitting out their. They might not know how many we have in here though..." She said, quietly racking her brain for anything they could do next.

"Tina, you guys were supposed to be moving already!" Kairo told her over the comlink, sounding slightly frsutrated. he had looked over towards where they should have flown up from and hadn`t seen them yet.

"I know, I know! There are four or five of them and they`ve got us pinned down." She explained quickly, wishing she had thought to ask for thermal detonators. It was too late now, and asking for one might be considered cheating. If this were to be a real battle and she were t forget thermal detonators, she wouldn`t be able to just 'poof' one out of no where.

"Fine, but hurry up, otherwise this plan might end up not working." He said, still continuing on his path towards the building. Tina nodded to herself and looked around. She passedover it once, but on the second time managed to notice some large chunks of conrete, but still small enough to be carried by a single person.

"Nobody has any ideas? Alright, well, in that case, I`ve got one." Tina said quickly, before anyone was able to jump in. She walked over and picked up a large chunk of concrete and held it close to her chestplate. "We`re gunna fly up with these and drop them on the people shooting at us. Hopefully it will distract them enough for us to get out of here. Any bojections? No?" She asked, looking around the other two men, who had started towards the pile.

"Good, lets go."

Kantar spied Christina's team, as well as the rebel troops that had them pinned down.

Then Kantar spied Christina and her team picking up large rocks, then it clicked, "Hmm, large rocks as protection, clever."

"'Tina, this Kantar, can you read me?"

"Yes I can Kantar, what's up?"

"'Tina, I can provide your team cover as you break through the rebels who have you pinned down, as well a causing an initial distraction, if you want me to."

"Much appreciated Kantar."

"Alright 'Tina, feel free to break for it once you see my target drop."

"Roger."

With that said, Kantar sighted on the rebel soldier in the middle of the group, who looked like the leader of their little group.  Taking a deep breath Kantar focused his thoughts and sense on this single shot.  Squeezing the trigger a single burst fired out of his rifle, scoring a direct hit on his target, right in his left temple.

Before his target even hit the dirt, Kantar saw Christina's team spring into action.

(ooc: :P, fun for j00)

Before Alan could get a chance to make any form of suggestion, Tina chirped in with her idea of throwing rocks at the rebels.  Oh great thought Alan what next, we substitute our rifles for bows and arrows.  As ordered though, Alan grabbed a large rock and rocketed up when he saw Kantar's accuracy drop the lead rebel.

The rebels, spying Tina's group started shooting upwards at them, trying to get a target.  Another rebel dropped.

Alan hit his comlink "Kantar ole buddy, you want to leave some for the rest of us?"

"Don't take too long" chirped back Kantar over the com.

Suddenly Alan's rock shattered as a well aimed blaster shot hit it.  To hell with this thought Alan as he took out his riot gun.  Usually Alan hated the riot gun as it shot out several blaster bolts; he preferred a one shot blaster pistol, going more for accuracy than quantity but the riot gun would suffice for now.  Aiming down at the rebels, Alan fired numerous blaster shots amongst them.  He was satisfied when they dropped leaving only one remaining.  The rebel looked around at his dead comrades and shouted as he fired upwards.

"Kantar, want the final rebel" said Alan.

Looking down he saw the rebel drop instantly.  Nice shot, when this is all over, me and Kantar are going to have to have a sharp shooting contest thought Alan.

Now that the ground troops had been taken care of on their side Tina tapped her com "Kairo, what's your situation?"  She listened but only static came as her reply.

Tapping his comlink, Alan said "Kantar, you there?"

"Sure am, what can I do for you?"

"What's happening with the rest of your squad?"

Several seconds passed before Kantar replied "Seems like that tower has a nasty blaster cannon which has Kairo pinned down".

Alan looked over at Tina, "permission to take it out?"

Tina smiled at him "let's get it done".

Tina, Alan and Leon fired up their jetpacks and flew up the side of the tower, the blaster cannon focusing on Kairo's position.  They arrived inches below the cannon's placement.  Tina held up three fingers, Alan and Leon got their weapons ready.  Tina dropped a finger to show two fingers, then one finger then none.  At that moment they flew up to cannon emplacement and opened fire.  Blaster bolts flew relentlessly into the position.

"Cease fire!" shouted Tina.

The blaster bolts ceased and they waited several seconds to let the smoke clear, their fingers resting on their riot gun's trigger.  When the smoke cleared, the floor was littered with dead rebels with none standing.

Hitting her com Tina said "Kairo, the blaster cannon has been taken out; you're all clear to come up".

"Roger that" said Kairo.

Tina looked over at Alan "Nice work trooper".

Alan smiled, even though he knew Tina couldn't see.  Making a silly mock salute to her he replied "you didn't do too badly yourself".

Tina's squad rested whilst they waited for Kairo's squad to arrive.

"Whoo!", Kantar yelled into the comm, knowing that he just caused temporary hearing loss in half the squad, "Now, thats what I call an assault!"
"Enough celebrating Kantar, and form up with the rest of the squad", Kairo said over the comlink.
"Roger that Gunney, I'll be there in a jiff."

Moments later, Kantar formed up with the rest of his team, who in turn met up with Christina's team.

Walking up to the group he slapped Alan on the back, "How's that Riot gun treatin' ya Alan?"

"Horribly",Alan retorted, "I hate the frakkin' things."

"Well, I got my baby here, as those poor rebel learned the hard way.  So what is the plan now 'Tina, Gunney?"

After letting the squad reunite for a moment, Kairo said a word into his personal comlink to the technician. A moment later, they were standing in a stark white space with just their armor. "Woah, Kairo, you need to warn us when you are going to do that." Kantar gasped. For a moment, it looked like Leon was about to sick up inside his helmet.

"Oh, sorry," Kairo said. "Anyways, you completed the last mission quite well. That was a very good job, especially since none of you were seriously injured except for a few nicks and scratches here. Hopefully, you will do just as well with this next one, though that might be a bit harder. The entrance will be the exact same. You'll see your equipment scroll by, but you will also be given a short bit of information on what has happened to make you be where you are. That may sound a bit weird, but you will understand as soon as we begin. Do any of you need a breather?"

The squad was starting to understand how Kairo was testing and realized this was another one. "We're ready to go, sir. That last thing was just a warm up," Christina replied.

Smiling under his helmet, Kairo responded, "Good. Simulation start in three, two, one, initiate."

Once again the world went black. A moment later, Kairo saw the familiar text scroll down in front of his eyes.

Standard Equipment:
    1x Storm Commando Armor
    1x Depleted Jetpack
    1x DC-15 Blaster Pistol
    1x Damaged Hush 98 Comlink
1x Datapad with a map of Tadath

  Personal Equipment:
    1x Kylon-3 Blaster
    10x Knives
    1x Flash Bang Grenade

Kairo waited a second for the next wave of information to scroll by. This time it was accompanied with Kairo's voice, which was disconcerting at first to here his own voice speaking to him.

"Mission details: A surprise invasion force has struck deep into Imperial territory. Now, their main objective is to destroy the Army's headquarters-Tadath. Invasion forces have already landed and begun their march toward the Imperial base. Nightstalkers and Jester squads were sent out to examine the force and determine how large the enemy force was. During their recon, the squads were attacked at dispersed. Now, no one knows if anyone else is alive except for the people around them. Only a few members are still with each other, while some are wandering the forest alone. Luckily, each person knows the whereabouts of the enemy and the size of the force. Only one person has to get back to the main base alive. If luck holds, some one will reach headquarters before the enemy does. But if the Republic forces don't catch up to them first, Tadath's other native wildlife may also pose a problem."

A moment later, a list of names began to roll by Kairo's vision, showing who was with who.

    Kairo - Alone
    Christina and Lion - together
Leon, AlanRJ, and Jayson - together
    Kantar - Alone

Kairo's voice rang out into the darkness, saying, "Simulation beginning." Unlike last time, as Kairo materialized in the new environment, he found himself alone. Good, it's working correctly. Checking to make sure he had everything, Kairo took off the broken jetpack and dropped it onto the forest floor. He pulled out the comlink and popped the casing open. After he quickly rewired it, he reattached it to his helmet and set off into the jungle. Good thing I set the enemy forces to migrate randomly, otherwise this would be too easy for me. I wonder if anyone else in the squad will bother keeping the jetpack on them the whole way? Pulling out the datapad, Kairo glanced at it to make sure he was headed the right direction. Jumping over a jutting root, he slipped out his Kylon-3 and continued his quick sprint.

(OOC So, you should have been able to surmise what to do from that. Basically, your jetpack and comlink are damaged. The comlink may be able to be fixed, but only if you happen to be a good communications technician or know how, which is Kairo's case. The jetpack isn't broken, but its energy is depleted. If you some how find a way to recharge it, then you may be able to get it working again. So, have fun with it. If you have any questions, let me know. Oh, and your personal equipment can be anything really, since we are on Tadath and you would have been able to bring what you wanted. Please put what you brought at the beginning of your post like I did. This will let me know and see how much you think you can actually carry, plus it will limit what you write in future posts. You won't be able to just pull out another weapon this way. Good luck. )

As the simulation started, Kantar smiled under his mask, "Heh, how did I figure that Gunney was gonna put me by myself, oh well."
"Tech, you have that list of personal equipment i gave you right?"
"Yes Private, I do, why?"
"Well, I'm going to ask that you equip me with all the things on that list."
"Roger, good luck."

With that, Kantar's equipment shimmered, and changed into his listed equipment, a E-11/M Marksman Blaster Rifle, as well as a personally modified 210 Personal armor, it's normal white color replaced with a deep black, as well as a few other modifications.

After his new equipment was loaded onto his person, he removed his helmet, and began to tinker with his comm-link.  After a few tries, and a bit of frustrated cursings later, Kantar managed to finish rewiring his comm-link, he put in back on and re-donned his helmet.

Pulling out his datapad, Kantar checked it to see the direction of his objective. Once he gathered his senses, and figured out which direction he needed to head in, he slung his rifle over his back, making sure that it was snug and would not fall off, he bagan to head towards the base, swiftly, albeit cautiously, keeping an eye out for either the enemy, or other members of his squad.

As he set off, Kantar decided to see if anyone else had fixed their comm-links, "Nightstalkers, this is Kantar, can anyone read me, Alan, Christina, Gunney? Anyone?"

Alan looked over at the Tech and asked "do you have my list of personal items?"

The Tech pushed a few buttons and Alan's personal items materialised by his feet.

His trustworthy DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol
His newly acquired LJ-90 Sniper Blaster Rifle
A couple of thermal detonators
His new armour

His armour shimmered and the bright pristine white darkened until it was a deep dark black, so black that it looked like you were staring into the night.  Well it is the NightStalkers thought Alan besides which, when off duty I am never out of black.

Alan looked over to see Leon and Jayson getting equipped with their own personal items as he put the detonators in a secure pouch on his belt and holstered his blaster pistol.  Lying down on the ground, Alan looked through the viewfinder of his rifle to see if he could see any of the other squad members.

Prying open his comm. link, Alan tinkered with it until he was sure that it was working.  He tried calling the other members of the squad but nothing.  Either they're out of range of we're being jammed thought Alan.

"Wait a second" murmured Alan as he looked closer into the viewfinder of the rifle.

Jayson crawled over "What do you see?"

Alan zoomed in closer and yes, he was right, scanning the vicinity his brow creased slightly before answering "trouble".

Leon got out his weapon, preparing for the fight.

Jayson queried again more urgently "What did you see?"

Alan slung his rifle over his shoulder before answering "I saw Tina and Lion at least a half days walk away and they're being followed by a small rebel force".

"So" said Jayson "What are we waiting for, let's go to them"

"No" replied Alan "we must consider the mission, we have to get the information back to the base, Jayson, you and Leon get back to base as quickly as you can, I'll go warn Tina's group and help them out".

"Now wait just a damn minute" replied Leon.

"No time to argue" replied Alan, "Now go!" he shouted as he leapt into the jungle and disappeared into the dense forest.

"Damn fool" said Jayson, "Well let's get going then, and may god have mercy on his soul"

Alan ran as fast as he could through the jungle as his mind raced I'm coming Tina, I'm coming

Alan raced through the jungle as fast as he could, jumping over jutting roots and ducking under low branches.  As swiftly as he had started, he soon found himself face down on the ground.  Looking behind him he noticed a small root which he had failed to notice.  Getting up he thought to himself take it easy, let's get to them in one piece.  He headed off again at a steadier pace unaware that something else was matching that pace.

Moving to a clearing in the dense forest, Alan lay down and scanned the vicinity with the viewfinder of his sniper rifle.  He was getting closer to Tina and Lion but still had some distance to cover.  Looking to their left, he noticed the movement through the dense growth.  Alan grimaced inwardly knowing that he was in range with his rifle but yet unable to acquire a target.

I could just fire into their general vicinity and hope I hit someone pondered Alan.  Don't be stupid he reprimanded himself what if I hit someone and the rest just open fire indiscriminately, they could hit Tina or Lion, no, I've got to get down there and warn them.  Alan stood up and got ready to move out when he heard movement.  He whirled round, raising his blaster in his hand.

"What the..." he said, never finishing the statement before it happened.

Alan whirled around, blaster in hand and was astounded by the creature facing him.  It stood four foot tall on six legs.  Its body was an oval shape covered in black fur.  It opened its jaws and Alan saw several razor sharp teeth.  What astounded Alan the most was a sturdy thick tail which arched upwards and curved inwardly, at the tip was a sharp spear.

Alan gazed at the creature and uttered "What the..." but never got to finish as the creature leapt up and bowled Alan over onto his back, his blaster went flying out of his grasp.

Alan found himself lying on the ground on his back with the creature over him, its tail raised up menacingly.

"Oh yeah, this isn't good" Alan said, moments before the tail came crashing down.

After walking a bit towards the base, Kantar, came across a small bluff looking down a little ways, he decided to scope out the area, in hope of either spotting some of the enemy, or finding his seperated squadmates.  He spied a small group of Rebels who seemed to be following something.  He looked in the direction they were facing, and spied Christina and Lion Heart, with said rebels inching their way closer nad closer.

"Not Good", Kantar mumbled.
Taking sight on the Rebel closest to his squadmate's position
'If that rebel gets too close, those two will be the last thing he ever sees', Kantar thought.

But, right before took the shot, his helmet's HUD picked up more movement, when Kantar panned to get his sights on it, he spied a familiar suit.
"Hmmph', he thought, 'Its a good thing I remembered what Alan's personal suit looked like." But before Kantar could react, a strange beast had tackled Alan to the ground, positioning itself to strike with its tail, which by the looks of it, was probably poisoned.

As the beast brought downs its tail in a swift motion, Kantar's reflexes were just a little bit faster.  Squeezing off a few shots, Kantar's shot connected with the beasts tail causing it to embed in the ground, inches away from Alan's head.  Squeezing off a few more shot's, the beast toppled over dead, the holes from the blasts still smoking.

Alan quickly got up, and recovered his blaster, he looked around, seeing if he could find where the shots came from.

"Damn, that had to be Kantar, thank God he's on our side," Alan said with a slight grin.

Then suddenly he remebered 'Tina and Lion.
"Damn, I better hurry and get to them, As he began running towards his squadmates position, Alan heard more rifle blasts and some indistinct shouting from the rebels, obvious sounds that Kantar had decided they had gotten a little too close to 'Tina and lion Heart's position.

"I better hurry", Alan said, "'Tina and Lion might need my help."

Tina relaxed as they were ejected from the battle that had been going on around them, and let out a sigh as they reappeared in the room from before. They had done pretty good, she figured, and no one had been injured or killed, giving them a bit of a bonus. Kairo was already getting their next adventure set up, and Tina was glad to have a moment for a breather. It didn`t last long though, because her rest was interupted as they were launched into the next mission.

She watched as the mission breifing was played to her and then the mission equipment flashed infront of her eyes. She didn`t really ask for any changes or custom weapons, seeing as she didn`t have many of her own to use. A moment later, the world shimmered slightly and she found herself amongst dense bush, with Lion Heart easily spotted a few yards away due to his height. He struggled for a moment with a bush that had wrapped itself around him, pulling it out of the ground by its roots and untangling his legs.

"Got it sorted out buddy?" She called, and he let out a frusterated roar, but began his treck over to her, pushing most of the bushes out of his way. "Good. We`re supposed to find our way back to the base, and we`ll probably run into trouble."

Lion grunted an acknowledgement and began walking next to Tina after they had figured out which way they would need to go. The trip seemed to be going uneventfully, although occasionaly they would hear something snap behind them and twist quickly, weapons drawn to see what it was.  Most times they didn`t find anything, although once Lion spotted some creature running off and mentioned to Tina that it was probably following them or something.

With that a good enough explanation for the snapping noises, they continued on, almost expecting rebels to come from ahead of them. Finally, after another snap, Lion told her to stop while he went to check it out. She shrugged and stood still while he dissapeared into the trees, but reappeared a few minutes later empty handed. He shrugged and said a few things meaning he had found nothing and they continued on.

About ten seconds later, firering could be heard not to far off, and Tina and Lion both dropped to a knee, weapons drawn, attempting to find the source of the sounds. Lion still towered over Tina, which made her feel shorter then usual. Everything was quiet for a moment before some leaves to her right russled and a spray of blaster fire engulfed the spot they were crouching in. Both troopers hit the dirt and waited for the obviously unaimed shots to stop. Then a few bolts came from an upper left area, towards where the lower bolts were coming from.

Tina then took a turn shooting into the trees, as did Lion. After a moment, the incoming bolts stopped, and Tina let out a sigh of relief, then crawled towards the bushes and pulled some leaves out of the way. She could see a group of rebel soldiers, about five of them, dead on the ground. A sixth was wrething in pain, and Christina quickly took him out of his misery with a quick shot to the chest, before he even noticed her.

She scanned the area again quickly and sat up, then pushed herself off the ground in an attempt to stand. A sharp pain shot through her leg and she collapsed, her head turning quickly to her left leg. It had small singe marks around the knee armour shell, and she could see where a bolt had penetrated the black body glove and hit her. It was not a deep wound, but had caught her off guard the first tiem she attempted to stand and caused her to collapse in pain. The second time she tried, she braced herself for pain and pushed off the ground. It hurt again, but she quickly took pressure off it and then tried walking around, slowly.

Her walk was an obvious limp, but she could move on it. Lion grunted and she waved her hands at him.

"No, I`m -ow- fine. Don`t worry, I`ll live. Lets see if we can find out who did that. Or better yet, lets find them, insted of just find out who." she suggested, and Lion nodded, beginning on his way up to whewre the bolts had come from, Tina follwing slightly slower, making sure to stick on the path that the Wookie had made. They began their ascent up the hill and after a few minutes came to a plateu. Tina almost jumped back at the sight of another person, but after realizing who it was, she let out a sigh of relief.

"Glad to see you guys still in one piece." Kantar said quietly, eyeing the two troopers and holding his arms limply at his sides. "You`re lucky I was there." He told them.

"Yeah, but still, I`m not one-hundred percent." Tina said, motioning to her leg. Lion let out a low growl and then a laugh, thanking Kantar for his help but sarcasticaly saying they had the situation handled.

"If you say so big guy." Kantar said. "Didn`t look like it to me." He continued. He motioned towards the bushes in the direction they had originaly been headed. "Shall we continue?"

Alan looked up at the creature as it raised its tail up high.

"Oh yeah, this isn't good" Alan said.  Seconds later the tail came crashing down, but instead of being on the receiving end of the tail, it crashed down beside his head.  Then Alan heard the distinctive sound of blaster fire.  He watched as the creature took shot after shot before collapsing down.  Alan crawled out from under it and wrinkled up his nose.

"Man, that thing stinks" he said.

Alan looked around to find out who it was that had killed the creature but saw no-one, then he smiled to himself as he said "Damn, that had to be Kantar, thank God he's on our side, good work bud".

More shots were suddenly heard, this time in front of Alan.  Damn thought Alan that's coming from where Tina and Lion are.  Alan raced as fast as he could to lend his assistance.

Nearing the scene of the battle, Alan crawled forward to get a better look at what was going on.  Alan spied Tina, Lion and Kantar together and it looked like Tina was limping slightly.  Damn, how the hell did he get here before me pondered Alan.  He was about to go to them when four rebels suddenly appeared from behind their positions.  Alan watched as they lowered their weapons, he knew that there was nothing they could have done.

Slowly crawling through the dense jungle, Alan moved until he was directly behind the rebels.  Well here goes nothing he thought as he stood up and approached the rebels from their rear with his blaster pistol raised.

"Excuse me, I don't suppose you'd mind letting my friends go would you?" Alan said.

The rebels spun round surprised at the sound of this newcomer, weapons raised.  Before any of them could get a shot off, Alan's quickness and accuracy had dropped all four rebels to the ground, a neat smouldering hole showing in each of their foreheads.

Tina, Lion and Kantar turned round at the sound of the blaster fire to see the dead rebels and walking towards them was Alan.

Lion growled and Alan assumed it was a thank you growl.  I must take some time out to learn some basic wookie language thought Alan.

"How did you find us?" queried Tina.

"Now you didn't think I was going to let you go wandering around the jungle without me did you?" replied Alan.

Tina smiled, "nice suit by the way".

Alan smiled back "Thanks, I thought you'd like it".

"Kantar old buddy" said Alan, "I take it that was your handy work with that creature back there"

"You bet ya" replied Kantar

"Creature?" queried Tina

Kantar and Alan exchanged glances before Alan said "long story, I'll tell you about it later, what say we all head back to the base, hopefully Leon and Jayson will be back there by now"

"What about Kairo?" queried Kantar.

They all looked at each other and shook their heads.

Tina spoke up "I hope he's ok, but the mission comes first, lets double time it back to the base".

With that, Nighstalkers headed out unaware of what was to come.

After running for quite some time, Kairo decided he should slow down a little to conserve his strength. Vaulting over a log, Kairo dropped to the ground next to it and listened for any noise. Breathing in through his noise and out through his mouth, he recovered his energy. After a minutes pause, he got his baring again and headed off into the jungle.

This is boring. I set the forward New Republic scout forces to be way far ahead of the main force and to also comb the forest randomly. How come I haven't found any yet? The sound of a snapping twig made Kairo reflexively stop and turn in the direction of the noise, weapon raised. Ready for the worst, he ignored the bead of sweat that had formed on the tip of his nose. Finally, a small fox ran out of the lower foliage and scampered back off into the jungle. Great Kairo. Now you're jumping at small animals.

Suddenly, a large creature barreled out of the foliage, chasing after the fox. Spotting an even larger prey, it decided to quit its pursuit and turned toward Kairo with its ugly maw spread wide open. Scratch that, your jumping at large barreling behemoths. Pulling out his DC-15 Blast Pistol as well, Kairo aimed both of his guns into the creatures gullet. "You shouldn't leave your mouth open like that," he stated and shot right through the upper rough of the creature's mouth, melting through the soft tissue and through its brain. All it had time to do was jerk in surprise before it collapsed to the ground dead.

"Well, it was a patrol squad, but it was entertaining none the less. Though, if any body was near here, they would have heard that. . ." Walking over to a tree, Kairo looked around for a second then started to climb.

_______________________________________________________________

"Sir, do we have time for this. We have already lost contact with Delta Squad two. Shouldn't we go search from where they last were? Instead of hunting around where we think we heard a blaster shot?"

"Be quiet Corporal Menclare." The commander of the forward scout team ordered. Holding up his hand, he signaled for the squad to stop. Sniffing the air, he gathered the sent of ozone and charred flesh. Looking around, he spotted a dead creature a few meters off. Motioning for the squad to fan out and circle inward toward the beast, he started to creep forward, making sure not to make a sound.

Corporal Menclare nodded and followed the order, leading another member of the team off to the left. I still don't think this is a good idea, Menclare thought. After walking for a few minutes, he checked to make sure he was in position then heard a muffled sound from behind him. Spinning around, he found his team member gone. A cold feeling crept up his spine. Jerking his head around, he looked everywhere for his team mate. Finally looking down, he saw a glimmer in the dense underbrush. Squatting down, he pushed a bush aside. Before he could yell out to warn his squad, his throat had already been slit.

Reaching the beast, the leader of the squad checked the body to find why it had died along with any traces of the origin of the blaster shot he had heard. Catching a small gasp through the squad's comlink, he pulled his head up and looked into the jungle. Backing up against a tree, he quietly said, "Menclare, Thomas? Storvand? Karval?" Silence. A twig snap sounded off to his right. Aiming his blaster, he shot into the forest where the sound had come from. "I know you're out there! Show yourself." A moment later, a heavy object crashed down upon his shoulder, pushing him to the ground. Gasping for breath, the last thing he heard was, "I'm right here."

_______________________________________________________________

"I'm right here," Kairo said, before he knocked the man out. "I knew I should have made these guys tougher. Oh well, shouldn't make it too hard on the other members at. . ." The faint sound of blaster fire rang through the jungle. A moment later another shot rang out. That sounds to faint to be close, so whoever is shooting must be on a higher level. Must be Kantar. He seems to like sharp shooting. Too bad he probably alerted half the people in a kilometer radius to his whereabouts. Probably did it to save someone else from the squad though. Oh well, I better head in that direction.

Cracking his neck to remove a kink that had developed from waiting so long in the trees, Kairo sprinted off into the jungle, leaving the simulated corpses behind him. It didn't take him long to see the bluff that rose from the forest floor. Running to the top of the bluff, Kairo crouched down into a prone position so he wouldn't be spotted. As he looked out over the forest, he could see for quite a distance. Looking back in the directing he had come from, he saw a few trees randomly swaying. Damn. That must mean the second forward scout wave is coming, though with speeders this time. Checking his map to figure out where he was, Kairo then figured out the probable trajectory Kantar and whoever was with him would take. Those things will probably intersect them in ten minutes. I'll have to really move if I'm to catch up with the squad, before the speeders.

Kairo stood up then slid down the bluff. Regaining his feet, he set off into the forest once again. Well at least your getting a work out Kairo. It's been awhile since you ran like this. I hope I get to the squad in time to see how they handle the speeders. I don't plan on joining them until they have dealt with the speeders though. That would take all the fun out of testing them. Time to see how they handle this challenge.

(OOC If you didn't get that last part, it means Kairo won't join your team until after you deal with the speeders. He is just going to watch. He won't even step in if any of you die. This is a test after all. Also, you don't have any forewarning about the speeders. It's up to you how off guard you are caught. Great job so far guys. Keep up the good work. )

As the team was booking it throught the jungle, Kantar heard a distant sound, but when he strained to hear it better it quieted down.

"Nightstalkers, I heard something, did anyone else?"
The squad gave different variations of "Not really".

Kantar spoke up again, "I could have sworn I heard something." He approached a sturdy tree, and began to climb the tree.

"Kantar, what are you doing?" Christina asked.
"I'm going top-side to see if I can see anything, I'm getting a bad feeling, and I believe that knowing our surraoundings would make it harder for anyone to suprise us, be right back."

Kantar reached  some branches at the top, which formed into a sort of make-shift seat.  Looking through his  viewfinder, doing a sort of 360 pan, he stopped when he faced the way that they came from a few trees swaying. "Not good." he said as he began to head back down the tree.

"Whats taking him so long?" asked Christina. "Don't worry", interjected Alan, "It's what he does, its just one of his little quirks."

Almost instantly, Kantar dropped back into the group, breathing heavy, "Not good guys, we got more hostiles following us, alot more than should be normal for a regular scouting team. We had better hurry up, as well as stick to the thicker brush, just in case they have vehicles, it'll be harder for them to follow us."

"But ultiamtely, it's your call 'Tina."

Hearing that there are more enemies coming, Everyone started to run at the general direction of the base. But Lion knew that if there are going to be speeders on their tails, they won't make it. Sure enough, the loud noises from speeders could be heard off to the side of them, passing at high speeds not far away.

Lion crouched, then followed by the other members of the squad. Their only way to get out of this alive, was to stand and fight. If they don't, there's no way they'll even reach the base. Although their objective was to return to base, the top priority of any soldier is to stay alive.

Looking down at himself, Lion noted that his and his comrades' black commando armor stood out in the green growths, making themselves perfect targets. Knowing they needed camouflaging, Lion grabbed some plants around him, and tied them to his armor. He then did the same to his fellow troopers, tying long strands of plants to their helmets and armor.

As they crouched, more speeders went by, without a second look at them.

"Your camo work is not bad." Tina whispered.

"Lion, why do you still have your jetpack on?" Alan asked from behind. "Here, let me help you take it off."

"Freeze!" Just when one of the straps came off, the voice of a stranger said. "I..."

Before the second word came out of him, before he could yell to the rest of his men, Lion was on his feet in an instant. With one strap still over his shoulder, he spun around, right arm extended. The strap slid into his hand, and the jet pack slammed into the man's jaw. The sound of metal going into the jaw, and breaking the bone into a million pieces could be heard meters away.

As he did so, he also gave away their position. Enemy soldiers rounded to them from all directions. Holding up his DC-15 in front of him, he fired away at the incoming soldiers. The group of four formed a small circle, firing at their separate directions. Every so often, a shot would come at Lion's chest. At first he dodged a few, but then a stray shot hit the jetpack on his arm. The shot burned through one side of the empty fuel cells, but was stopped by the exhaust tube. Looks like their weapons aren't very powerful.

Then all of a sudden Lion's weapon stopped firing. Without thinking, Lion holstered it, and grabbed the pistol off the guy who he'd beat his jaws in, and continued to firing at the many enemies.

Alan watched as Lion smashed one of the soldiers jaws.  Damn, he's good thought Alan.  He didn't have long to watch Lion's handiwork as all hell erupted.  Soldiers appeared around them and started blasting.  Alan grabbed his blaster pistol and started shooting, smiling as his accuracy hit several soldiers neatly in their heads.  A loud noise suddenly was heard as Alan thought to himself oh no!

Kairo looked on as the Nightstalkers engaged the enemy soldiers.  He smiled as he witnessed many soldiers falling down from the blaster shots.  Oh, this should be good he thought as he watched several speeders approach their positions.

Alan looked up and his fears were brought to life as the noise he heard erupted through the trees in the form of several speeder bikes.  Lion immediately leapt in the air and bowled the rider off one of the bikes, the bike whirled out of control and slammed into a nearby tree.  The rider, stunned slightly, reached for his weapon and aimed it at Lion who was lifting himself up.  No you don't thought Alan as he aimed and fired, the soldier dropped instantly.  Lion roared appreciatively.

More speeder bikes roared in and the ground erupted into flames as Alan dove for cover.  The speeder bikes weapons tearing up the ground.  Alan quickly climbed a tree and waited, he knew that if this was going to work it would require precision timing or this was going to hurt a lot.

Alan looked down from his position to see Kantar and Tina firing continuously into the throng of enemy soldiers, many were dropping and the occasional speeder bike exploded from well placed shots.  Wait for it he thought to himself, now, and without a second's thought he leapt from the tree.

"What the hell is he doing!" shouted Kantar as he watched Alan leap from a nearby tree.  He watched, expecting his friend to shatter every bone in his body landing from that height.  Instead he witnessed Alan landing on the back of one of the bikes and the rider being flung off.

"Son of a..." said Kantar, not finishing his statement as more blaster shots landed close by and he responded with lethal force.

"We have a friendly on one of the bikes!" shouted Tina.

I really hate these things thought Alan as he threw off the rider and geared up the bike, firing its weapons into the throng of enemy soldiers and at the incoming speeder bikes.

Tina was firering into a group of rebel scouts whenshe heard something else. Above the buzz of a few speederbikes, she could hear a low rumble not to far off. The first small group had caught them a bit by surprise, using speed to get the better of the small group of Imperials. Althoguh no one had been hurt or killed yet for the NS team, Lion had almost been hit and Tina had been hurt previously. The scouts just kept pouring in though, making Tina wonder exactly how much of a scout team this actually was.

"I think we`ll have more to worry about soon here." Tina said to Kantar as she fired another shot towards a small band of enemy troops. The enemy team spread out to avoid a barrage of fire from herself and Kantar, but they could not all avoid it. A pair of troopers dropped, hit in fatal areas of their bodys.

It was just after this that the low rumbling grew much louder, the ground started shaking, and treetops nearby could be seen shaking. A moment later, two large trees toppled nearby Tina and a large rebel hover tank materialised out of the brush. it was flanked by two sets of troopers, each containing 6 troops. The tank thundered to a stop and its large turret swiveled, trying to decide which threat to eliminate first. Tina and Kantar had dove out of the way and managed to sufficiently cover themselves with foilage before either the troops or the tank noticed them.

Alan too had gotten out of the way, but along the way had sacrificed his new ride, turning to sharply and clipping a control vane on a tree, causing the bike to become uncontrolable, and him having to bail out. He had landed softly on a pile of leaves but the bike continued its trip and detonated against a tree. He was now hidden amougst the leaves, but had seen the tank and its escorts enter.

He eye`d the groups, which were looking for new targets. All of the VEA soldiers had dissapeared from view, and the new NR team seemed confused. Alan took this as his chance and pulled out a thermal detonator and set it for impact, then lobbed it into the middle of one of the groups. It connected with the ground and blew up, sending the soldiers flying and blackening the side of the tank, which had been lifted slightly by the force of the explosion, and Alan noticed that the back end now seemed to sag slightly, making him think he might have disabled a repulsor lift.

The rest of the team took this as their opportunity and showed themselves, opening fire into the stunned second group of rebels. After a brief exchange, the rebels were gone and only a single NR soldier had recieved a wound, with Kantar getting nicked in the hand. It was nothing but a glancing blow and caused a minor burn on his hand, thanks to protection from his armour. The tank now knew their positions though, and the turret was moving back and forth, unable to decide once more which threat was the biggest.

Lion now took some initiative, and when the tank`s turret was pointed away from him, he sprinted towards it and lept into the air, landing on the edge. The tank rocked slightly under the sudden weight, and the turret swiveled quickly towards him. He ducked under it and moved closer to the center of the tank. The hatch was to his left, and he grabbed hold of it and wrenched hard on it. It didn`t budge, but he continued to try pulling it off.

Now with the tank effectivly distracted, Alan tossed Tina a detonator and she began inching towards the tank, looking for a certain spot. She spotted it, and climbed aboard the tank as well, keeping low. She made her way around to the front of the cockpit and found one of the very small windows used to see outside the tank directly. She set the detonator and then wound up, stricking the window with the elbow of her armour. One of the tank pilots looked up at her and began raising his weapon, but she hurled the detonator inside, hitting the man, then yelled for Lion to bail out. He grunted and did as told, her following suit.

She hit the ground and sprinted away, but didn`t quite make it far enough. The tank exploded, once, then the explosion increased in intensity as the fire reached the fuel reserves. It was enough of a blast to knock her off her feet, and she landed hard on a patch of dirt.

"I`m ok!" She yelled as she stood up, dusting herself off slightly. Alan came running up to her, questioning her about if she was alright, but she pushed him back with one hand. "No time to check if I`m alright, We need to get moving, I have absolutly no doubt that they heard that."

Alan nodded and ran over to make sure that Lion was alright. The blast had knocked him off his feet as well, which slightly surprised Tina, considering the size and brute strength that the Wookie had. Kantar made his way over to her, also wondering if she was ok.

"Whats the plan?" He asked her as well, and she stood for a minute. She didn`t really have an escape plan, and had to admit that the destruction of the tank was the best planned part of the scenerio so far.

"I think we should look for Kairo." She said, but before she could do much another voice was there.

"No need to look, I`m here." He told her and the rest of the group, making himself known from a little ways back into the bush. "I`ve been watching."

"Well if you`ve been watching, why the hell didn`t you help?" Kantar burst out, seeming slightly frusterated that their leading officer had watched them the whole time.

"I`m here to make sure you`re doing ok. I`m not here to help you out every single step along the way." He retorted, then turned to Tina. "That was sharp thinking with the tank. I didn`t expect to see one of those, not out here. The next move is up to you to make."

"Why me?" Tina asked. She did not have a problem with being placed in a spot of resonsibility, but she was wondering why Kairo was making her tell them what to do next. What he had said before had almost completly passed by her.

"Well, You are the ASL of this squad, and I`m just helping coordinate this group until someone is named the SL. Right now, I`m technicaly not part of this squad, which means it is not my direct responsibility to command you step by step. That is your job. I`m just overseeing that you do your job well." He explained to her, stopping once to check over his shoulder at a snapping sound he had heard, only to find Kantar had shifted his weight and snapped a stick.

"I understand, sir." Tina replied, then thought for a moment. "there are 4 of us now, not including Kairo. I say we split up into two groups and spread out, maybe 50 meters apart, then make our way carfully down the forest, quietly eliminating any trouble we may run into." She said thoughtfully, seeming slightly happy with herself.

"Alan, you`re with me, Kantar and Lion, you go that way. Kairo, you can go with whichever group you wish, or go alone." Tina ordered, feeling slightly weird about ordering someone of higher rank then her around.

"Yes ma`am." Came a quick reply from everyone except Lion, who grunted in acknowledgment.

"Take it easy bud" said Alan as he watched Kantar head out with Lion.

"You too" replied Kantar.

"Let's head out" said Tina.

Kantar and Lion moved off and Alan moved alongside Tina as they headed off, weapons raised.  Both groups moved slowly and methodically through the jungle, getting closer to the base, yet coming across no enemies.

"Maybe we got them all" commented Alan as they walked.

"Perhaps" replied Tina "but I don't like it".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, out of sight several sparks flew from a console as several technicians swarmed around it.

"What seems to be the problem?" queried Sergeant Hawkins

The senior technician looked up at him with a concerned look "there's a malfunction in the primary processors, I'm afraid the safeties are no longer in effect".

"Well, Kairo isn't going to like it but you'll have to shut down the training simulation until we get this fixed" replied Hawkins.

The technician looked up at him, panic strewn across his face "We can't, the problem won't let us terminate the program, the only way to stop it is for the program to finish naturally, either the squad reaches its objectives or they all die".

"My God!" exclaimed Hawkins, "Nightstalkers had better be as good as what Kairo is expecting, otherwise this will be their last mission, keep trying to shut this down or re-establish the safeties".

The technician nodded and resumed working, knowing in his heart that is was a futile attempt yet trying nonetheless.  He had helped Kairo set up the simulation and knew that Kairo had set it up so difficult that he didn't expect Nightstalkers to end it successfully.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Munro of the Republic army looked through his viewfinder spotting four imperials walking slowly through the jungle.

"Is everything set?" he queried to one of his Lieutenants.

The Lieutenant nodded, "yes sir, this squad of imperials is heading directly into your trap"

The Commander smiled "excellent, we will see the end of this wretched Nightstalkers squad and then we will lay waste to the imperial base and every last imperial on this wretched world"

"Yes sir" replied the lieutenant, smiling.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kairo watched on, knowing what the Nightstalkers were walking into and wondered if any would survive and who they would be.  He had run this simulation on many recruits before and seldom did anyone survive.  Little did he know that if anyone died, it would be a fatality.

Tina and Alan walked slowly through the jungle, not far off Lion and Kantar moved steadfastly along.  They were making good time and were not far off from the base.  Suddenly Tina dropped down and motioned for Alan to do likewise.

"I thought I heard something" said Tina

Alan took his rifle off his shoulder and looked through the viewfinder, scanning the vicinity.  What he saw made his forehead crease.

"There are lots of rebel soldiers and I do mean lots, they are spread out in a wide area boxing us in if we continue further." said Alan.

"I guess we backtrack and try to find a long way round then" replied Tina.

Both Alan and Tina heard footsteps approaching and they grabbed their blasters, aiming them at the approaching sound.  Kantar and Lion came through the jungle and crouched down at their position.

"Whoa" commented Kantar, "don't shoot"

Alan looked over at Tina, smiling as they holstered their weapons.

"I'm glad you're here, we're heading straight into a large group of rebel soldiers with no way round, so we're going to have to backtrack and hopefully we can find a way around them" said Tina.

"Oh" replied Kantar "then you're not going to like what I have to say.  I scanned the vicinity behind us and there is a large group of rebel soldiers closing on our position.  It looks like they have us boxed in, with no way out".

"There's nothing for it then than to attack them hard and fight our way out.  Now I know this is only a training simulator but let's treat it like it's the real thing and let's show Kairo what Nightstalkers are all about" said Tina.

"No matter what happens, someone must make it back to the base, agreed" said Alan

The rest of the squad nodded and Lion roared.

"Let's move out" said Tina.

With that, the Nightstalkers squad raised their weapons and headed towards the rebels.

Outside of the simulation, the room had gone into a minor panic. "How is it even possible? It's a simulation. How can you die from a simulation?" one of the technicians asked shakily.

"It's simple," Sergeant Hawkins began to explain, using this to divert his attention. "Normally, the computer is sending the images and reality into your brain. To prevent weird things from happening, only a certain amount of information is allowed to reach the brain. This means that even though you are shot in the simulator you don't feel it. Plus, the programming won't alter your brain waves. Now, sometimes the safeties can be lowered to an extent that the brain still feels the pain of the wound you receive, even though you don't physically. What's happened now is that the safeties have completely malfunctioned and if the brain receives too much information from-let's call it mental harm-it will actually go into shock. You will have a seizure and your heart will stop. That is how it will kill them. Of course, everyone has their own extent to which they can receive mental harm, before they seize. Some only have to receive enough cuts and blaster wounds. Others can withstand having an entire limb removed. Haven't you gotten the safety up yet?"

  "No sir," Another technician replied.

"Can you at least patch a communication through to someone in there?" Hawkins demanded.

"Wait, we can. Kairo allowed for that loop hole in the programming, that way he could tell me to alter things if he wished."

"Then why haven't you contacted him about this yet?" Hawkins retorted.

"We, uh. . .that is to say, I. . "

"Just get me through to him!" Hawkins ordered.

As Tina and the rest of the squad began moving out into the jungle, Kairo's comlink buzzed in his ear. Who could that be? "Kairo, sir, we have a problem." That's the technician outside.

Moving to the side and behind a tree, Kairo asked, "What is it?"

"The simulator has malfunctioned. The safeties are completely off." Hawkins voice said in Kairo's helmet.

Kairo stood there a second, speechless. "Turn the simulation off."

  "We can't."

"What do you mean you can't!" Kairo yelled.

"We are working on it sir, but it may take a few minutes, maybe an hour. The best thing for you guys to do is finish the simulation. Then the program will shut down." Hawkins said quickly, realizing his job may be on the line.

"You just get it done soon. Let me know if anything changes." Kairo ordered, running through the trees to catch up to the squad.

  "Understood," Hawkins replied.

Can there ever be a day when my life is not on the line? Kairo pondered, as he continued to run toward the squad. As he came up behind them, four blasters turned to point at various parts of his body. "Put those down, and come back with me."

  "What?" Alan asked.

"I'm assuming command of this squad for awhile. Tina, I'll let you know why later." Tina nodded. Kairo was glad she hadn't argued, even if he was a superior officer.

"There are forces converging on us from ahead and behind, sir," Kantar informed Kairo. "There is no where to go back to."

"Yes, I know that. I did program this simulation." Kairo responded, running back through the foliage until he found the remains of the speeder and tank from the earlier fight. "Kantar, Lion, go the speeder and see there is any part of its fuel cells that didn't blow up when you crashed it. Tina, Alan, guard the perimeter." They all nodded and set off to do their tasks. Pulling off his helmet, Kairo reached inside and removed his comlink. Pulling off an added attachment, Kairo placed it back into his helmet and turned it to the squads frequency. "Leon, Jayson, come in, this is Kairo. Where are you?"

"Kairo, I thought you said the comlink was. . ."

"No time Leon, where are you?"

"We just passed this huge bluff in the jungle, and are heading toward the base. Why?"

"You heading for the base directly from the bluff?" Kairo asked, pulling out junk from the tank that had been melted from the explosion.

  "Yes."

"Then pick up the pace. An enemy detachment is probably right behind you. If you keep heading the way you are going, you should see a smoke stack rising from the jungle. Head towards that. It's from a downed tank. We are there. Do you happen to still have on of your jetpacks?" Kairo asked.

"We both do." Jayson answered this time.

"Good, keep them and get here as fast as you can." Kairo ordered, pulling out what remained of the tank's energy core.

  "Roger."

Kantar appeared next to Kairo, asking, "What is this all about?" He dropped a piece of machinery on the forest floor.

"That's a back thruster." Kairo said when he looked. "Basically, we're going to make a little present for the forces coming at us."

"Right, well, Lion's bringing what we think was one of the fuel cells," Kantar explained. "It appears it got blown off the speeder. I let him carry it, because it was heavy, and I figured it might explode at any minute."

"That's thoughtful. Here, help me with this." Kairo motioned for Kantar to hold one end of the energy core off the ground, so Kairo could move underneath it.

As his arms began to strain, Kantar decided to distract himself by asking, "Don't you need tools or something? And if this thing is blown up, what do expect to get from it?"

"Tools would be nice, but I'll make do with this," Kairo waved his right hand from underneath the core. He was holding a bent piece of metal. "It's from the tank. It works just as well as anything else. And yes, this thing has been blown to bits when the energy core was punctured. Thankfully, the fuel which was still being processed wasn't hit. All I'm going to do is, combine the fuel cells of this, the speeder, and the two jet packs that Leon and Jayson are bringing. Then, I'll all attach any grenades or detonates we have left and set them to be motion sensitive. When one of the forces get here, well, you know."

"Won't we be stuck here as well?"

"Ah, there is the beauty of it. We won't be exactly here. We'll move as far ahead as we can without being seen by the forward force. We'll then climb into the trees and wait for them to pass below us. Hopefully, they will miss us, but if we are noticed, we'll move quickly and silence anyone who spots us. When the first group of people gets here, they'll get blown to bits. This will also 'give away' our position. The two forces will then converge on this spot to find nothing. We should be half way to the base by then. It will then be a race between us and the speeders they are likely to send after us." Kairo finished his explanation right as Lion dropped the fuel cell on the forest floor with a grunt. "Thank you Lion. I know that was heavy. It's quite handy having a Wookiee around sometimes."

Five minutes later, Jayson and Leon ran into the small clearing, panting from their trek. "Here you go." Leon gasped, holding out the jet packs. "The... force is only.. a few minutes.. behind. . ."

"I understand Leon. Take a quick breather. Tina! Alan! Form up!" Kairo ordered. It had taken a little help from Kantar and Lion, but the two fuel cells had been combined. "I'm just going to prop these against this. We don't have time to connect them. They should also explode when punctured. Even if they are depleted, there should still be a little fuel left. Just not enough for flight." Grabbing the three detonators the group had left, Kairo set them for motion and backed away.

"How do you know how to do all this?" Tina asked encredulously.

"I've been trained as a vehicles crewman. We don't just learn how to pilot things. We also learn how to repair them. With that knowledge comes the power to also blow them up." Kairo explained as he placed Kantar's comlink on the forest floor, which he had asked for during the repairs. "Now let's move out. We don't have long, and we'll still probably have to silence a few people to remain undiscovered."

Running into the jungle, Kairo checked through everything he had done earlier in his mind's eye. He hoped it would work. He didn't need anymore people dieing on his hands. "Remind me when we are done with this, to have you show me what you did back there, step by step," Kantar said.

"Sure. When we get out of here." If we get out of here. Kairo thought grimly.

(OOC Kind of a long one. Not one of my best. Anyways, if you have any questions, let me know. Basically, we'll climb into the trees when we get close to the main force, then wait for them to pass. Once the bomb goes off, the NR forces should head towards it thinking we are there. We'll then use that chance to dash for the base perimeter. They'll figure out what happened and race after us. From there, it's basically running while trying to stay alive. If you have any questions, let me know. )

Weapons raised, the squad was about to advance on the Republic army when a rustle was heard from the jungle.  Swinging round, weapons raised, they were suddenly met with Kairo who immediately took command and ordered Tina and Alan to guard the perimeter whilst he set to work.

"So what do you think is going on?" queried Alan whilst keeping his eyes peeled for trouble.

"I've no idea, I thought we were doing well but I guess he has his reasons" replied Tina.

Jayson and Leon arrived and Kairo called the squad together and explained the plan.  The squad moved closer towards the Republic army and further away from the explosives that Kairo had set.  When they were far enough away Kairo ordered them up the trees.

Clambering up the trees without a moment to spare as the Nightstalkers squad looked down to see the rebels moving slowly underneath their position.  Suddenly a large explosion erupted, shattering the silence and the squad watched as the rebels started running towards its location.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elsewhere, Commander Munro of the Republic army had lost sight of the Nightstalkers squad.

"Order our troops to close in, I want those Imperial scum eliminated, now!" he barked to one of his Lieutenants.

"Yes sir" he replied, quickly relaying the orders.

A large explosion shattered the calmness and shouts were heard.  Commander Munro scanned the area through his viewfinder and watched as his army went in disarray, their lines collapsing and soldiers running around erratically to the source of the explosion.

"What the devil is going on there?" queried Munro.

Listening to the com chatter, a Lieutenant looked up at him and said "reports are coming in sir.  A large explosion has taken out four of our troopers and several more are injured."

"What of the Nightstalkers?" Munro queried.

"No sign of them sir, it's possible they were killed in the explosion" replied the Lieutenant.

"No, they are cleverer than that.  Damn it, it must have been a diversion to draw our troopers away.  How many speeders do we have left?"

The Lieutenant looked up "we lost quite a few in our last skirmish"

"Dammit, I asked how many" barked Munro.

"We only have six sir" replied the Lieutenant.

"Send them in now, I want that squad, they will pay for this outrage!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kairo signalled to the squad to get down from the trees.  Dropping to the ground, they assembled.

Kairo immediately whispered "let's move out before they get a chance to regroup".

The squad started heading towards the base.  A noise was suddenly heard by all, getting closer.

Kantar looked around and said "I know that noise".

"Let's double time in people!" shouted Kairo.

The squad started running towards the base as Alan muttered under his breath "bloody speeders".

They had been running for what seemed like hours, but Tina knew in the back of her mind that it had only been a few minutes and they probably wern`t getting anywhere closer to the base. The roar of the speeders could be heard in the distance behind them, slowly gorwing louder as if the speeders were having trouble with the forest, which seemed to be getting denser. Tina tripped but managed to catch herself with her hands and push off again, keeping pace with the rest of the group.

"You don`t think they`re gunna get us, do you?" Alan asked, breathing hard, doing his best to keep up the quick sprint they were at.

"Save your breath for running..." Tina advised him, then with a quick check over her shoulder, replied with a quick 'no'.

She did not know that the Republic troops had found the trees to be to think for their speeders, causing it to be much more dangerous, if not impassable. The Republic troops were now embarking on foot, doing their best to catch up with the Vast Empire troops.

A moment later, Tina noticed something flicker ahead of her, followed by a few more flickers. Apperently the rest of the group had noticed as well, because Kario quickly yelled get down, but Tina had been a step ahead and had thrown herself to the forest floor, dragging Alan with her.

A second later, red bolts ripped past their heads and into the foilage behind them. Kantar swore and mumbled something about this hell never ending, and Kairo lay still, apperently thinking something over in his head. He waited a second before turning to face the group.

"Alright, here`s the deal. Once again, they have us from both sides. The most we can do is make our way out to the side and try and go around them. I totaly forgot about this part of the sim, but the group ahead of us is the last team before the base. After them, its only 500 meters or so." Kairo explained, doinging his best to keep the situation simple, not wanting to worry his troops yet by telling them what was going to happen.

"Alright, well, lets get moving then?" Tina suggested, half rising and beginning to make her way to the side, followed by the rest of the squad. Once they had gone about one hundred meters like this, Tina stood up straight and began jogging again, once more followed by the rest of the team. She let Kairo get ahead of her, so she could follow him, seeing as he had taken control fo the squad.

"We should almost be around them now, but we`ll kind of make it in a big loop, so the we put more space between us and them. I bet that if we keep up this pace, we`ll make it to the base in another 5 minutes." Kairo told her, jumping over a root as he ran. "Switch over to a private channel for a sec though."

"Alright, what`s up?" Tina asked as she did what she was told and switched channels. Kairo didnt say anything for a moment, but then replied -

"Well, we've got a bit of a serious situation." He told her. Tina was about to speak, but he cut her off. "Not just in the sim. Something is wrong with the machines, and if any of us dies, or if we fail the mission, those people die in real life too." He explained, and Tina`s mouth dropped open inside her helmet. She didn`t want to belive it, but knew that he was right, and that such problems had arisen before with the simulation technology.

"Well, what are we going to do?" She asked, quickly checking over her shoulder and making sure that the whole squad was still there.

"We`re going to beat this mission or die trying...Litteraly. And they arn`t going to find out about this until after." Kario said in a warning tone.

"Got it." Tina replied, before switching off the main comm channel and back onto the helmets main speaker. "Double Time team! Lets get this one finished up ASAP."
