There is no practical way to impliment such a tool that I am aware of. The HC is currently discussing what to do about this, expect something in a few days. -----------------------

Well... unless you mean creating code/a script that looks for specific key words in a post prior to it being publicly released... I don't know how you're going to pull that off. -----------------------

Okay first off all, i am guilty of going off topic at a one or two topics.
What i suggest, its only an suggestion, is to give people a warning if you notice that this happens constantly, work out a system, a punishment system. But of course only a suggestion |

The sound of an idea police squad sounds good to me.
People would listen more since they afficialy have the the last say or something in the last line. Of course it could be an honour to be part of that squad...but it would be a total new system i guess...and also it would give the memebrs something to work for etc....just random ideas yet again.
Also, Police squad members can also be on guard in the IRC, i mean you know how iritating some people can guess, kinda stupid idea that..but this is what the suggestion box is i guess, brilliant and stupid ideas. |

Here is a major problem with having a "police squad". It would mean they would have to judge if a topic is going extremely off topic or not. We would have to trust their judgment. It is helpful to have in the main comnet, maybe, but we already have Kad and them to do that. Plus, the lounge topic is a place for off topic posts, unless it is a completely useless conversation that would be better suited for IRC. The other things is if we had comnet police, that would give them the power to edit posts. You can't just give them the power to delete stuff without them being overseers. If you look next to the different areas, you will see one or two names. Those names are the people who can edit and delete stuff. So, giving a group of people that much power can be a little dangerous. It would make most people feel uncomfortable. And if you say you won't use the power unjustly, let me tell you that power has a very interesting way to corrupt. Your judgement isn't always correct. So it is best to leave it up to the people who already have that power: Kad, Tal, Japth, and Fury. Anyways, that's my two bits...

I understand your point.
But instead of giving the power to delete posts, why not just let them give warnings out etc...If they notice there is one person always going of topic then they report him. Of course it would be difficult on some topics to define if they are of topic or not. |

it is almost impossible to do such a thing without a whole separate program behind it. hellra, are you suggesting that we put actual members to be police, or imagenary NPCs that acts like AI? But i think a main thing is just that people should just watch what they post. -----------------------

Here's what should, ideally, happen. People don't go off topic. If they do, a MODERATOR warns them, and if it continues, starts to delete their posts. PLEASE keep in mind, all of you, that it is the responsibility of the MODERATORS and ADMINS to moderate the boards, not the standard members. It is their judgement that the HC has put faith in to keep the boards orderly. -----------------------

How about we have a section off the specific topic that somewhat relates to the topic at hand, but is a bit off base. That way, those who wish to ignore anything off topic can continue reading without becoming annoyed, and those of us who like to "go off base" can enjoy our conversation without the infamous off-topic signs popping up everywhere. It makes more sense then having a number of people wasting their time patroling the ComNet and judging what is really off and on topic.
If anyone doesn't understand this concept, I'll further explain. We could have a link off any main topic, like this one for example, and have any questions or comments that are slightly off topic placed there.
Just an idea, thought it might help. -----------------------

The HC is handling the situation. The moderators do their job, just sometimes you guys get there first and there's more posts about "That's off topic!" than there are off topic posts. You're feeding the problem here. Just let us handle it. -----------------------
