I'm glad the murderer was shot on the scene. Although he deserved to have his intestines sliced from his body and hung from a balcony, it's good that he got his not 5 minutes after killing such an influential and amazing musician. I feel really bad for Vinnie, there's got to be nothing worse than watching your brother get shot and you can't do anything about it.
Metal will never be the same. The next chance I get, I'm going out and buying all the Pantera albums and the Damageplan album. Dimebag, rest in peace my man, rest in peace. And may your murderer rest in pieces.

I am a man of rock, and I have yet to hear Pantera, but it has been recommended to me, and dimebag's legend has been told to me as well, but now I feel I need to hear them.  That is truly a horrible way to kill someone, and the man was obviously out of it.  Either way, he's meeting the judge sometime soon...

Heh, no, there'll be no judge for him. He met the led of a 12 gauge not 5 minutes after shooting Dimebag.

I'm not much for that kind of music, but I can guarantee that the Judge we all eventually meet is not too fond of murdering scumbags.

God was known as compassionate and forgiving. Can't remember what century it was, the Romans/Greeks (?) began depicting God as some kind of harsh, fearful judge, and that's sad to see in my opinion.

Never heard the band play, not into that kind of music, and I'm sorry to see that two lives were taken.

I never meant that God was harsh or cruel. But the Bible does specifically say that you aren't supposed to murder. Can't get around it.

The Bible says a lot of things, do most Christians actually follow a quarter of what it says? No. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that murder is in anyway right in anyone's eyes, especially God's, but, even though I myself am a strong Christian, I've made it a big thing for myself to make it clear that just because the Bible says something, it doesn't always make it set to follow. Cause the Bible, or more accuratly, the writers of the books of the Bible, contradict each other, badly.

Touche'....  However, the bible is seen from more than one view, so naturally, they will contradict eachother, but make no mistake about it, you'll get yourself in trouble if you go on a shooting rampage.  And yes, the bible, contradicting as it may seem, is a device that is meant to be translated and attempted to be understood.  Chances are we never will fully.

Apologies for going off topic. Maybe one of these days we'll start a topic specifically for religion. Or maybe that would be more of an explosive, dangerous thing... Ah well.

In the hope of not offending anyone, I'm simply going to try and explain some of my own beliefs, rather than calling out anyone else on anything that they have posted.

I think that God is a loving, compassionate God, but that there are some things that simply can't be tolerated. A good example is murder, as that was the original topic of this thread. God is willing to forgive us, but if we don't ask for it we don't get it. I believe that Jesus died on the cross so that he could take away all the sins of those who followed him, sort of acting as a whipping boy for us. But I believe, and this is supported by some of Jesus' own statements, that you have to be one of his followers. This could be anything from Catholic to Jehovah's Witness to Southern Baptist; as long as you accept Jesus into your life and do your best to follow him, you're saved.

I don't think that simply going to church counts. I think that it's an ongoing process of acceptance, the first part begining with simply accepting him into your heart. Jesus himself called it being "born again," which is where the "born-again" Christians got their name. So being a born-again Christian doesn't mean that you're some fanatic who thinks Santa is the devil because he wears a red suit. There are people who thought I was one of those, just because I'm a B.A. You'll find fanatics in every branch of every religion. But back to what I was saying.

I feel that after accepting Jesus, you have to continue to follow Him. At first it's difficult to surrender your life to God. For a while I was very reluctant. Now it's liberating. I don't know what God has planned for me, but I know that whatever happens He'll provide for me. I'm sorry I don't have any incredible, beyond-belief stories of His work in my life, but there have be many little, tiny things that have helped me get through. I honestly belief I would have died around July or so if He hadn't been there to comfort me.

And now this thread is probably getting wildly off-topic, so I'll stop there. If anyone else wants to continue, I recomend starting a new topic. Hopefully it'll have a more inviting title than "Wars of Religion."
