    I would have sworn I wrote this somewhere...  Anyways, I put this here so it would get seen faster...  This is just kind of an idea for navy improvement, something that would give us a real reason to wanna get IC's (pay per click would get used a lot more) and an all around good reason to wanna be in a fighter instead of using a gun in battle... 

    Imagine if you will, a kind of garage for space fighters, cruisers, and store houses for capital ships...  Now, the idea is to be able to add or take things off your ships, fighters, and all around space machinery.  So if I took my Viper into the shop and asked for some kind of weapons upgrade, like a new gun altogether for instance...  Where would I get it?  The Garage of course.  It'd be kind of like the Imperial center but slightly more complicated... 

    Why complicated...?  Cause it has to be.  If we just let everyone get some awesome equipment, there would be no challenges in the middle of a battle.  So if you really wanted a new weapon, before you could use the weapon, you'd have to get a series of equipment.  Like a new radar system, tracking system, and actually attaments to be put in your ship so that you could carry that weapon. 

    It wouldn't be directly connected to the Imperial Center, cause it isn't the Imperial center.  The IC is like Wal Mart where as the Garage would be more like a retailer shop in the front and a mechanics shop out back...  Of course the army could be included by being aloud to get things done to thier landspeeders and such... 

    What ya think?  It might take a while to make a page like that, but I'd be willing to do some of the searching for equipment and such as well as make up a few...

I asked for this before...kinda a mod shop.

Problem is, it's gonna be hell to build up as you have limits to how much you can mod a particular craft. 

But hell, if people want it and want to jump in, I am all for something like this.

Why only for the Navy? You could buy a speeder and have laser cannons fitted to it, in theory.

Of course...  And we'd also have those 25 cent toys in the lobby in case you get bored while your modifications are getting done...  I like the the hands in particular...  You know, the ones that stick to the ceiling, and you think it's really cool for about an hour, then it falls on the ground and the dirt gets stuck all over it, and....  Never mind...  Getting off track...

Anyways, I thought it was a good idea, and I think I do remember something about you wanting to add something, some time ago...  Probably at the height of the VE...  There'd have to be some one to actually make the sight, cause I have no idea how to do such things...  But I could search up weapons and all that stuff...

Fishy theory:

Each ship/vehicle/whatever could have a number of 'upgrade slots', and each upgrade takes a number of slots, and has a benefit to the vehicle's statistics.
You could also have it in the Mechwarrior way where each vehicle has a mass limit, and you can easily overtop that without filling all the upgrade slots.

Exactly Fish.

The easiest route is to stick by the generic RPG rules that classify a ship according to it's class, size, and a few other factors.  This puts a top limit of types of weapons, engines, shields, etc. you can have.

For example, you could never fit a capital ship turbolaser to a small fighter.  The bulk, not to mention the energy consumption would be crippling to the ship.

And yes, vehicles could be modded.  We could have a regular Outer Rim Swoopers or something.

I also have an idea.

We shoud have fuel, gas, oil, gun powder, ammo, sheild power and all that kind of stuff. If you wonted this to be almost real RPG thing it should be as real as possable. For example if you had a real speeder do you think it would last forever? And if we did do it, In First Galactic Bank when we click on our speeder and we have already brought fuel or watever, There should be a button and when you click it it refuels the ship. We should also have things that tell us how much fuel or fire-power we have and how much we need for it to at least get going.

Battletech has tons of interesting construction rules,  Battle Armor(did my VCMA by the out dated rules and it came up exactly where I wanted, need to get the current rules from someone), vehicles of all sorts, conventional and aerospace fighters, mechs, warships, and space stations.

I think that's everything they have design rules for.

I have design programs for just about all of them too if anyone likes.  Though that assumes we'll be using something along those lines.

It's all really complicated until you get used ot it though.

Caleb, in a way we do have that. On some items there is a "maintenance cost per month" that is deducted from your account every month. (I think iit is. Fury is it?)

Actually, it is not currently being used.  Though you never know when it will so be careful when you make a purchase.

Alright, before this concept gets taken down a way-too-complicated road, let me point you all to this basic guide from GM Sarli over at the SWRPGNetwork, amongst other places.  WotC's Starships of the Galaxy takes this info a step further.  I also have a few sites (somewhere in my overflowing bookmarks) that breaks out some of this stuff in greater detail. 

This is all info that would be common to a player of the Star Wars D20 system.  If we are going to do this - and if we are ever going to get off our butts and build up an RPG group - let's focus on using info common to that strategy. That way no one has to a) reinvent the wheel, and b) learn a half dozen ways to do one thing.

There is usually a D6 starship builder here but it seems to be offline right now.  Hopefully the site isn't dead or something.  Just to give you an idea of how we might approach this concept.

Your right, it would be too complicated to make up our own system anyways...  I took a look at that link, and I was wondering if you were refering to that link as the certain ships with certain weapons type of idea...  Or were you thinking along somethin else, but that one looks pretty complete...

As for the walkers, I told you there wasn't a lot to work from and that you don't have to do it if you don't want to.

Probably the same reason no one else has over the years.

danm! TK, you too, you have half the posts i do and still out rank me. garfeegai (pronounced Gar Fee Gee I)  and im catching up to Fury. anyway.

it would kinda ruin my LAAT/i, senc i dont think any of its vast improvements would exatly work, nor would i beable to put the cutting laser on my YT-1760 instead of blaster cannons like i was going to, but it would give alot of people something to do. . .for about a month.

The garage thing would definitely be a cool idea. The info would be updated when we view our craft in the bank's "Possesions" list, right?
