I suggest finding a writing pal/partner. Correct each other's work.

Also, read some Tom Clancy. I like his work because he's very detailed, elaborate, and has excellent plot navigation/planning.

What might work for you, is to make up a basic formula...  Like, a paragraph structure that you'd like to go by, you know a little detail here, a little there.  But if you'd like some help, you can add me at [email protected], and I can look at some of your work.

One way to start is to begin capitalizing the beginings of sentences.

I disagree, I don't really like the way Clancy writes, he takes too long to get t practically any point.

I don't think who you read is important, reading a lot does help though.

Also, type the things you write in Word or something, it'll correct minor grammar and spelling errors for you.

Only when I wrote Varneck Inheritor Nergal did I ever write something in Word then post it, but it does have a good spell checker and the grammer checker does not work that well.

Probably the best advice I can give is try and not take criticism too personaly, especialy in this electronic format.

The next most important piece of advice I can give you is the hardest to follow even for a seasoned writer like myself.  It's easy to solve your plots with super soldiers, super weapons, and reality bending powers.  At least try and make it entertaining.

If you can find a writing partner near where you live, having someone you can actualy talk with in real time about your writing rather does help.

There are a lot of good writers in the VE and I know some of them are more then willing to help.

please, i wont get into relations with the people around here, but lets just say i cant get somebody i could acctualy talk to with in 300 miles and she'd prolly slap me b4 she said anything to me. i try to write most storys in word and the grammer checker is terrible, heh one of my main problems with grammer is that my speach is full of gramaical errors, anyway, im writing a character dev story right now that i should be posting within a week or two,if anyone wants to take a look at it before i posted it i'd apreciate it. if i ever get time to finish it, i dont realy take critism personaly, atleast i dont think i do.

i tend to stay away from the super powers/superweapons/super soldiers, except in certian instances, special occasions, its to simple an ending for me, i dont realy like reading about it except in the Eye of the World, something like that i liked, it wasnt so much an ending as another begining.

And if you type your stories in word then copy it and paste it into a .txt notebook pad and then paste it into the post. Otherwise small boxes will come up for every punctuation mark. Its not to hard to understand but it makes it a little difficult because its hard to tell the difference between periods and commas and such.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but someone above said (in so many words) to hone your writing style. Choose a style that you like to write in, and then work from there. Whether it's MLA format (without the double-spacing), or whatever.

It took me a long time to decide which writing style to use. You can ask Talon.

Is there any website or place where you can look up the different types of writing styles because I would like to choose one.

Umm... Not sure if there is an actual page dedicated to "writing styles".

Just write in such a way that it is easy to read, follow, and comfortable for you.

i just htought of somthing to tac on here, if you want to read good plot twisting suspense and such read Alistair McLain, he writes liitle dime novels, but his plots end up extremely twisted, and at times hard to fallow, although i had little trouble, however they are short books, takes me about 2-3hours casual reading to finish one.

Well, thought i'd just post over somethings I said earlier...  In order to make a story make real sense, and be a good story, well told and such, you might go for a certain smoothness.  Maybe that goes along with style, but I think it's a bit to do with actual writing as well.  Knowing how to put words together so they flow and they arn't choppy is the way to go I say.  If you can read it out loud, and it sounds good, but your staying on point and not confusing yourself, your probably doing it right.  You might think of it as trying to get the reader comfortable, I've attempted to in some of the stories, unfortunelly, I write most of my stories in here off hand so I don't get enough time to proofread or insert any of that fluid motion i've spoken of...  Listening to music might also help... Certain genre's might make you write differently, or for that matter head your storyline in a completely direction.  Keep it under control and you might very well be fine with that...
