I don't know if this has ever taken place.  But anyways, last night me and Liquid were going at it because we hate eachother.  And we ended up, god knows how, talking about keeping the VEN alive.  We came to the conclusion that we should send out an awol.  Giant one...  And if they don't reply.  They get a week or so till there are out of the VE.  Neither of us really new how to enforce that.  But anyways.  Rema was sitting around trying to help us settle our differences.  And we also came to the conclusion, that even if the VEN were to become active again.  It would just sink below.  Liquid said if they don't wanna play games or write stories, they shouldn't be in the VE.  I critisized it thinking that was a little over the top.  I was sure there was some way we could either bend it to create a new activity, or to make both of them that much more interesting.  Rema was coming up with a lot of the questions and answers.  But this morning...
I thought to myself.  Why isn't Spirit thought of as a sport.  Well VE sport that is.  We have like no competions for best graphics, or best drawings.  Or best all together.  No competition for best Team spirit really.
I don't know if it's because no one can draw or use a graphics program.  But it certainly seems a lot easier to set up than a stock market or store.  Although I am certainly anxious for the Re-opening of the store.  I bring up competion because Liquid said there had been severl attempts at Story and Gaming competitions...  Not any spirit ones that I know of...  Why not give it a try though.  We could pick some judges...  It would certainly put our Image archive back into use.  And you'd be surprised what you can do in a simple paint program.
Just wondering if that is an option is all.  Sounds interesting to me.  Post your comments or suggestions...

I second that Rizzit

I'd like to see a graphics competition being run, even though I suck at them. But hell, I'm sure most of us can whip something up with MS Paint.

Also, something minor but fun like weekly trivia or caption contests can do alot to raise this club's spirits.

what would be cool would be a military design contest. the powers that be pick a need for the design to fufill (ex: a light tactical transport for atmospheric combat) and then people would design and submit 1 design. then the powers that be would judge them.

Now THAT is a great idea.

Even if all you could conjure up is a sketch, I can kinda beg an artist to give your idea a run.  He's done some work for me on ships for Imperial Center and picks up the odd item in his spare time.  Barring that, the kids at SWAG might take a crack at it.

I'll mull this over a bit.

Excelent idea!  Even a rough sketch in anything is good.  Atleast we'd have activity.  And I'm not sure we've tried that before.  Great post man.  Fury, would you be willing to run this by anyone who would be interested in running a contest?
I bet we could all come up with some guide lines and rules for such a thing.  Especially, those of you out there who want to bring the VE back into the hot spot.

Well, I'd be willing to dole out ICs for it, and then we could work out rules and judges.

The primary thing is "What do we need?"

Other than walkers, we really work off an old base for transports and the like.  Plus, with all the prequel flicks giving us ideas, we have a serious shortage of low altitude attack craft and the like.

So, I'll leave it up to you to work through for the time being, but I think we may be on to something here.

i have an idea for the first specificaitons:

ground vehicle that can be easily configured to preform multipile roles such as anti-vehicle, anti-aircraft, anti-infantry, anti-aquactic craft.

Hrm...  Interesting.  I was thinking I was ganna make some atmoshperic craft...  But the Bunny can be saved for later...  Alright...  That guide line sounds good.  You mentioned like four different types...  That means we could easilly have three or four different categories for contest.  We could have a Winner over all...  And then a winner for each category.  But along with the designs we should also have some technolodgy help.  I mean you can't send in a picture and expect people to make sence of it.  They should have a little info on it.

that is good that it is a good design idea because i have a superb idea. and a drawing. a cool one. but my scanner is cranky and won't install on my sister's laptop. my computer fried on last thursday and might be online on saturday (we are getting recovery disks from Sony)

but anyway, i of course am in. with a superb idea. a very original one. bwawawa. wawa. wawawa.

atmospheric craft are good idea. yes. good. got undeveloped ideas for those too.

how specific do you want technical info? like: here is the sheild generator, here is the laser-of-death, here is the power genorator. or more speific.

when are they due? who will grade them? the council?

I think laser of death is technical enough unless you choose otherwise.  And I believe maybe we could get cosmic or some one like that with experience in such matters to judge.  Or maybe Talon.  Dunno...  I'll leave that to Fury...  The competition will only be a few weeks longs...  So...  We'll have to figure out when that little start date would be...

Later,

Sounds like a good idea to me.  I'd be willing to contribute 100,000 ics or so towards a reward, though I can't really contribute to something like that, being completely unskilled with any type of graphics.

It sounds like a good idea, but "laser of death?" Is it possible to find a less cliched name?

Basically, superweapons are NOT what we need.

I know it is less exciting than a new Death Star, but regular battle and utility craft seem to be what we are missing.  There is a comp coming up where we have to redesign old technology just to get people where they need to go.  That's just sad.

But no, you don't need to design blueprints, but maybe some general stats like weapons load, speed, length and height dimensions, crew and passenger space.  Basically anything that will help give those who judge an idea on what we are seeing and what uses it can have.

As for judges, I can be one if you'd like.  I'd also like PM and someone else involved so that we can have a nice odd number of judges.  If we get a lot of entries, maybe more judges and a ranking for each entry to make it more fair (like an item who gets a "2" vote across the board could win if there is a debate over number "1" votes, for example).

I was just joking about the Super Ray of death or whatever.  Lol.  Cosmic, if he decides not to be an entry, could be a judge...  I could look up some helpful websites for information on ground assault stuff.  I could be a referance in other words.  PM would make a great judge.  Blue prints are awesome, but not really nescesary.  A simple schematics' is fine.  IF...  The contest were to really take off, then maybe the idea of adding judges could happen.  But then again, we could just start splitting them off into different cattegories.
I say we should start the contest within the next week or week and a half.  Enough time to get our ground rules set and someone to get it on the News.  On the Main that is...
An IC reward is great.  Many thanks for offering the rewards.  Blah is obviously kind of anxious for this contest, so lets get underway here in a little bit.
