Among the older stories, before we really started increasing the scale of the Navy stuff, Nazgul: The Ties that Bind was one of the most interesting and fun missions. Edit: Heh. Guess I should have checked Trick's link first. But hey, there's something to be said for longevity if I still think highly of the story half a decade later. I think the main requirement of any of the suggestions are, it needs to be a story or thread that a stranger with no idea of what is going on in terms of the VE can easily fall into. |

If memory serves, "The Vast Empire Strikes Back" was fairly approachable, from a reader's POV. It was a collaboration between some Army folks and some Navy folks, years ago. http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/15526/I think the one-off story I did for VENI holds up pretty well. It isn't Navy, nor Army: it's about spies from rival Imperial splinter factions, competing to get a holograph of a wanted criminal. But it's a self-contained story, with a hopefully-clear, direct plot. http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/15059/So is another short I wrote, called "Shakedown Cruise." It doesn't hold up as well as some other stories, but it's about Navy characters/situations, it's easy to follow and understand, it's short, and it has an ending. Surprisingly hard to find threads that are all of those things. http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/14835/EDIT: Actually, if you want to find Navy pieces that are short-but-complete stories, try the certification board. These had to have beginnings, middles, and ends, and were each written by a single author. Not super familiar with FanFiction.net's format, for synopses. But hopefully this is close enough that you can adapt it: A Holo's Worth a Thousand Words, by Will Trichon (or, I guess, by whatever the VE fanfiction.net account is called) A decade after the Battle of Endor, the Galaxy remains divided. On Corellia, a young spy for the Thrawnist Imperials begins her first field assignment... and gets swept up in a dangerous new mission. One that will bring her into close contact with an old flame, a deadly hitman, and one of the galaxy's most wanted terrorist masterminds. Surprisingly tough, to make it that short.
