Tal and the rest of the VEHC are hard at work on re-organization stuff.

I wanted to float an idea, though, while we're waiting for changes to come down the pipeline: does our in-story faction have to be called "The Vast Empire" anymore?  It was always super awkward, IC, to talk about our faction and its various parts.  Were we "Vast Imperials"?  Was it called the "Vast Imperial Navy"?  So clunky.  So weird.  So, like, insecure-sounding.

By all means, let's keep "The Vast Empire" as the OOC name of the club.  It's got a long history, a great pedigree, brand recognition among those who've rp'ed here, and we (Kad?) own the url.

But maybe we can use this back-from-the-brink moment to rebrand ourselves, IC?  The EE went with a self-declared "Second Galactic Empire," but I'm not attached to that specifically.  I just think we should find something less awkward than Vast Empire.

Oh, very well.  I thought I'd float a test ballon.  Experiment, concluded. 

I mean, the canon is going to fill back in.  Just because all the Legends stuff was tossed out, doesn't mean we're going to only have movies to go off of.  The novel I picked up the other day, Aftermath, already has a summit of Imperial leaders happening.  They're calling themselves the Imperial Future Council, and they look to be split between those who want to focus on maintaining peace and order (and get away from some of the excesses of the Palpatine regime), and those who want to double down on the Dark Side path the Emperor laid out to follow.

Definitely that's the most compelling reason, to me.  VE has a history, a following, and brand recognition, at this point.

I wish we could play through the transition from Palpatine's pre-Endor Empire to what the VE is/became, though.  How did Stormtroopers and TIE pilots go from elite, ideologically-pure shock troops, loyal directly to the Emperor and answering only to designations instead of names, to the rag-tag, heterogeneous group of misfits that the VE was home to?  I include my own character(s) in that.  It's a fascinating progression, particularly in light of the new movie's villains, who are sort of the exact opposite.  If the VE was a kinder, gentler Empire, we've now seen what happens if Imperials double down on Palpatine's policies.  And that's a neat comparison to consider.

Well, so, that's a different approach.  Some folks call us the Vast Empire, in-story.  Others prefer to just call us the Empire, and ignore the other successor states that also lay claim to that name.  Both have pluses and minuses.  Some level of official sanction for one over the other would be welcome, I guess is my main point.  We can use this moment to bring greater internal consistency to our shared setting, which in a bunch of really small, insignificant-on-their-own ways, has become somewhat self-contradicting.  Too much "leave it vague," by too many people, over too many years, ya know?
