Under the control of British troops..?
There are British Army bases there, yes. But there are British Army bases in England.. is England under the control of British troops?
The army are there because there are a lot of illegal guns all over the place. The process to destroy them started a long time ago, but there is still lots more work to do.
Most foreigners think the British troops are there to defend the population from attack, and to act as millitary policemen. Well, they're not. They're there to protect people from the threat of some idiot firing a Klashkinov all over the place. You see, if somebody starts shooting something, the best people to stop them are the soldiers.
Northern Ireland is a place in the UK.. it is as much a part of the UK as Alaska is a part of the USA. It is not "Part of the Empire" like Gibralter or the Falklands (and formerly Hong Kong), but a part of the country.
I remind you that on a British passport it says "Citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Northern Ireland is a part of the UK. Alaska is part of the US.. so if Alaska is "Under the control of the USA" then Northern Ireland is "Under the control of the UK".
So, basically, get it right ----------------------- 2nd Lieuteneant Bear

Its because we own part of ireland and we want to keep it (northern ireland) the rest of ireland has been campaigning for a long time for northern irelend to become part of the republic or ireland.
However most of the northern irish are happy to be a part of britain.
And then thers the fact that the protestants and catholics hate each other.
put it this way over the last twenty years ireland has become a much much better place in the 80's it was almost a war zone

Ah, I see. So the report I heard about the British military having to protect a Protestant parade through Belfast was wrong. And so was the report that children going to a Catholic school in a Protestant area had to be escorted to class by military police. I see now that Northern Ireland has no British military personel keeping the peace Get used to it, when that level of military involvement has to take place in an area, it's under military control because the people either hate the nation or someone else. In this case, it's a simple arguement over whether or not to kneel when praying(basically, that's the arguement, isn't it?). I thought Christianity was "PRO"-peace, and here they are, killing each other because they believe the same thing different ways. And I DO know that the Protestants have been in control for a long time and the Catholics hate them for that, but it's still a peaceful religion, so it shouldn't matter who's in charge ----------------------- Argon Viper

Viper i agree that all this arguing over religion is utter ****** ireland really isnt under military control though, far from it
I personally absolutely hate religion...thats a personal view though. I do however have no problem when religion teaches people to try and live good peaceful lives.

My personal view is, I won't go to religion unless you prove it. But if others wish to practice it, then do it right. Most people take the God part, and the convert part, and forget about the morals that are SUPPOSED to go with it. If that was the way religion was, I might even join it, too bad it's not :P ----------------------- Argon Viper

Christ taught that the fundamental law of god was to love thy neighbor and that all other laws flowed from that central point. He said this exact thing at least three times that I can remember right now off the top of my head. As a quaker raised by quakers who were in turn raised by quakers, I have always believed that everything else is window dressing, and if you are not true to that fundamental principle, then no amount of hail marys or catholic masses (ever notice how they sound like the borg collective ) or confessionals will save you. The fact is that I am not the only one that thinks that way, but there are far to many people in this world who insist on doing everything according to an instruction manual. Christ did not write an instruction manual!

I agree with everything Geist just said(in that paragraph, I'll get to that last part later ). The problem is that everyone who's trying to convert me follows the morals Christ wrote down less than I do!!! So, my belief is that, if there is a God, and he is like they describe him, he will let me into heaven for having followed the morals of the bible, even if I don't believe in him. Also, I think I have been falsely stating my religion, the new UK religion form shows Athiesm and None as two seperate groups, until someone tells me there's no difference I'm gonna go with the "None" option.

Ah, but I don't exist.
In fact, all of this is a figment of your imagination. You are actually right now in a secret government laboratory north of Groom Lake Nevada where government doctors are preparing you to become the dummy plug for Eva units 5 through 13. You will be key in the operation to deal with the renegade NERV
When Instrumentality begins it will all become clear to you.
