Blanchard Roasting on an Open Fire - Jester

Tadath, seat of the Vast Empire’s government and military, was the center of the Vast Empire’s power and influence, commerce and its most important world. Its defenses were the heavier than any other world in VE space, and it served as the headquarters of the VE’s elite Stormtrooper and Navy corps. But one cold winter, during the shortest days, Tadath’s defenses had been cracked, and its capital, Sianat, had been bathed in blood.

All of this had been the work of J’ak Frozt and his organization. It was only thanks to the actions of Phoenix company that Tadath itself was not permanently crippled by the cyber-attack that had briefly taken down the vaunted defenses of the Empire’s most important world.

Stormtrooper Wing: Fort Sexton, Tadath

“So you ordered the destruction of a highly valuable research station? And you actually did it, Commander?” the scientist demanded, his own uniform’s captain’s bars conflicting with his non-military regulation hair cut and thick spectacles and nervous demeanor. “That station was making crucial developments in the analysis of dozens of new species! And you burned it up and threw it all into a fire like it was nothing, you barbarians!”

Gates rose from his chair, but Havock shook her head imperceptibly. The three of them - Havock, Vask, and Gates were all in dress-uniform and were present for the ‘debriefing’ of the Observation Platform 86-Alpha mission. Rarely had Garryll been present for a debriefing that included the science branch of the Army as well as both Stormtrooper and Navy upper-ranks.

“Captain, please refrain from insulting the soldiers,” said the Stormtrooper Colonel who was presiding over the debriefing, stressing the word ‘soldiers.’ “Continue, Major.”

“Most of the details are classified, Colonel. Commander Vask responded to our call, and used his initiative to help us complete our objective,” Havock said.

“You had orders to destroy the station?” asked the Navy Captain, sitting beside the Colonel.

“Our objective changed when the station became unreclaimable. Almost every mission has a contingency plan. It was all we could do to escape with our lives, sir,” Gates inserted. “If you’ve seen the vids and our after-action reports, I think you’d agree.”

“I have,” the Stormtrooper officer said, “And-”

He was interrupted by a knock on the conference room door. “Enter.”

A pair of tall men entered the room, uniforms unmarked except for their rank pins - a lieutenant and a commander. “Major Havock? Captain Gates?”

The two of them turned around.

“We’re rather in the middle of something, Commander,” the Colonel said.

“I have the authority to interrupt this, sir,” the man replied. He handed the Stormtrooper a datapad and gestured for the Phoenix officers to follow him.

“What do you need, Commander?” Gates asked as they left the conference room.

“I’ve got a problem that Phoenix Company is...uniquely qualified for,” the man replied. “My name is Orr. Lieutenant Andrews is one of the ARC controllers. I’m the leader of ARC squad Iota.”

“ARC? What do you need with us Stormtroopers?” Havock asked.

“I’d prefer to only explain it once; I’ve gathered the Squad leaders of your company,” Orr replied.

They entered into the Phoenix conference room. Joamer, Brightstar and Skarr stood up as they entered. Skarr gestured at the two men. “What’s up with this, Major?”

“We’re ARCs, Sergeant Major,” said Orr.

The SLs had a visible response - but it was more surprise than anything. They looked at Havock for any hint of why they were here, but all she could do was shrug.

“I’ll lay it out straight for you, Phoenix. ARC Team Theta investigated a tip, and they ain’t back yet. They haven’t even written.”

Havock stiffened at the news, but it only drew a nervous chuckle from the SLs. Garryll spoke up. “You sure it isn’t just a communications problem?”

“It’s been two-and-a-half weeks since the last communique. Even bad comms can’t cover that.”

“Okay, then,” Havock said, some agitation creeping into her voice. “How did Theta get deployed somewhere even an ARC team can’t fight out of?”

“Simple. We had someone tip us off. Andrews - get Ms. Sleicer, please,” Orr said, gesturing at the door. The man opened the door and walked out of the room, returning a moment later with a woman in tow.

“Jana Sleicer, tech expert, and the reason Theta was deployed,” Orr said, as the woman walked in. “She’s...worked with Phoenix before.”

“I was abducted, Commander. Jester squad took me hostage when Stormtroopers invaded a base on Anteevy. It just so happens that that same base is now active again.”

“Anteevy... what did we go there for?” Gates muttered.

“J’ak Frozt,” Orr said, flatly. “Created a program that was capable of taking down the Tadath Defense Grid.”

“Tough customer. What’s the relationship?” Gates asked.

“I’m not sure,” said the woman. “But look - whoever it is used to be there, in the organization.”

“What’s this new organization want?” Skarr asked.

“Theta’s initial findings suggest some sort of strike against the VE. They went in before discovering anything other than the name of the organization - ‘Blanchard,’” Orr said. “We’re pretty sure Theta’s been captured. We need someone to go in, get them out, and take this ‘Blanchard’ apart, base and all - since you folks seem to be experts at leaving bases in pieces when you leave, this shouldn’t be an issue.”

*** *** VSD Dominion, Anteevy Space *** ***

The Victory-Class Star Destroyer dropped back into real-space with a flicker. Onboard, its passengers - the Stormtroopers of Phoenix Company - stood up and got their stuff together.

“This is the Commander speaking. We have reached Anteevy. Prepare to disembark.”

OOC:

The HSC has arrived!

Phoenix company is assigned to infiltrate the base and then go about various objectives.

All squads will be opposed by mercenaries with full-body armor, usually in black, with good training and weaponry. Each squad will have one or two ARC troopers attached to them. These troopers will be competent, but they’ll be new ARCs

As usual, please stick with squad gear, and get any other items approved by your SL, and let the SL/ASL post first, unless you get permission.

First Objectives:
Jester: Infiltrate the base via the surface elevator and hack into the upper levels computer systems - lock down the top layer of the base. You will also be accompanied by Havock and Jana Sleicer.

Company Adjutant of Phoenix Company | Platoon Commander of Wildcard Platoon | Elite Squad Leader of Blackjack Squad | Acolyte of the Dark Jedi Order

“I should have let the wolves eat me.” Bright muttered.

Sergeant First Class Brightstar was having one of the worst weeks of her career. First Platform 86-Alpha, and then Snipes leaving. She was acting squad leader for Jester, but that didn't mean she knew what she was doing. To her comfort though, Havock would be with Jester for this campaign. She looked over at the Company Commander and felt her insides tighten. What if she screwed up?

Her violet eyes flicked to the other woman that had joined them: Jana Sleicer. Bright thought back to the first time she'd met the woman. It was true that Jester squad had taken her hostage, and Bright would be the first to admit that it hadn't been pretty. She'd done everything she could do to make sure that Jana remained safe while in her care. She did not want to see Jana end up like some of her colleagues. She shivered and pushed the image of a man on fire out of her mind.

In the end, Jana was willing enough to help bring down the company she worked for, but she was still an unwilling hostage at the mercy of Jester's squad leader at the time. Seeing her walking into the briefing room and blatantly say what she said had made Bright flinch almost visibly. The red head did still have her honor and dignity, but that comment stung.

Having Jana with them wasn't the only thing that had Bright thinking and on edge. Aeos was with them as well. For as long as Bright had known her she had looked up to her and aspired to be as successful as she had been. It felt strange.... no, it felt wrong that she was now Ae's squad leader. In addition to Aeos, Abalar, a trooper from Jester days past, had returned. A bit of happy news that seemed to balance out the nerves. It was just as well that the woman was also a medic. After all, Havock was with the Jesters, someone had to come and play doctor for that reason alone.

Taking a deep cleansing breath, Bright looked down at the floor before looking back up. “This is the Commander speaking. We have reached Anteevy. Prepare to disembark.” Bright felt sick for a moment before looking back at her squad. My squad. Gods that sounds weird. She thought before pulling her helmet over her head. As Jester disembarked from their shuttle, Bright made sure that she was the first one on the ground. She knew instinctively that Havock had been right behind her.

They had disembarked their shuttle, less than three klicks from the base and Bright almost seemed grateful. However, she knew the dangers of having landed so close to an enemy base. She had to worry that they had been spotted by some sort of security measures. That was if they had any security measures. Bright recalled that part of the base had been destroyed the last time they were here.

She looked around noticing the snow and how heavily it was falling. Not much for cover. She and her troopers were in SCOPE armor. They could still be seen through the snow fall. Through habit she almost looked to Havock for orders. Shaking her head inwardly she called for her people to check in.

“Everyone here?” She asked. After getting a confirmation from everyone, Bright nodded and took to her knee. “Ok listen up, we don't have much time, but I want you to be aware of how we're going to do this. Jana, you have a map?” She asked the tech.

Jana nodded. The woman was wearing combat armor that matched the color of the SCOPE armor that the Jesters were sporting. Bright had made sure that she wouldn't be confused with the enemy should it come to shooting at things. She had not expected the woman to look so comfortable in it. Before they had left for Anteevy, the acting SL had done her homework. She knew that Jana was now skilled in both armed and unarmed combat and that the custom blaster at her hip wasn't just for show.

The tech produced her data pad and brought up a map of the base and the surrounding area. “We're right here, roughly anyway.”

Bright had never thought of herself as a great strategist, she'd always let others do that for her. Now she looked at the map carefully. “We'll move along this ridge here for as long as we can,” She said, “if we're lucky we can avoid any security patrols, if we are unlucky we'll have to fight through it. The surface elevator we need is on the ground floor of the facility. At that point, it is highly likely we will be fighting to get to it. Abalar I hope your supplies are well stocked, as you can see, Havock is with us.”

The medic nodded patting her med pack. “THX, Lukas I want you two to take point.  Abalar stick close to Jana. I'll let our ARC brethren watch our backs.”

Aeos' helmeted head turned to look at her. Bright could almost feel the steel in the other woman's gaze. “They may be new to ARC Ae but in order to get there they had to prove themselves as troopers.” Bright said before indicating that she, Havock and Aeos would take spots to the right, left and in front of Jana. Abalar had already placed herself at the other woman's back.

“Lets go and hope they haven't sent us a welcoming committee.” Bright said signaling for them to move. And hope they don't shoot us all to the seven levels of hell. Bright thought silently.

OOC:
Okie dokie Jesters. We are currently three klicks away from the base. It is likely that we will meet a recon/scout security patrol while on our way to our objective. You may have one personal weapon and one only. Other than that it is standard SCOPE gear.

“I’ll lay it out straight for you, Phoenix. ARC Team Theta investigated a tip, and they ain’t back yet. They haven’t even written.”

The words continued to echo in Havock's mind. Her sister was ARC lead, she knew that Whiskey was out there - hopefully alive, but she had to acknowledge that she was possibly dead. She couldn't let the fact that the image of her dead sister kept creeping into her vision show to the other troopers, especially not now. She was with Jester, and responsible for Jana's life. Most importantly Aeos would kick her ass.

"Can I ask you something?"

Havock glanced at the tech formerly employed by J'ak Frozt. The woman had guts she gave her that much credit. Ayme had demons in her past too, confronting the ones she had survived was not something she would wish upon anyone. This lady basically volunteered to relive her nightmare with the same squad that had ripped her from her former life.

"Sure."

"When I was contacted about this mission I nearly passed out, I guess I just wasn't expecting I'd ever have to return to...this. But in that briefing room you turned the color of that armor you're wearing. Why?"

Brightstar was in earshot and turned curiously towards the pair. The sound of snow crunching beneath their feet was the only sound for almost a solid minute. Havock hadn't seen her sister in almost a year, but they remained in contact through messages, most of which would be frowned upon by the higher ups. She could compromise the ARC mission, even though they were careful never to talk about work so to speak.

"This mission, I shouldn't be here. I compromise the mission. My sister is ARC lead, well ARC Theta lead." She grimaced in the direction of the ARC Iota members protecting their rear. "My purpose here is to protect you, and I have to focus on that." She caught the glare she was getting from Aeos and decided that was enough talking.

"Only one click left from the looks of things." Therex broke the silence again from his position behind the ladies.

Jana nodded. "Just over that ridge."

"We may need to make an entrance, you brought some toys right Ae?"

"Of course." The response was quick, it was clear to Havock that Aeos had a lot on her mind. She just wasn't sure if it was related to her, Whiskey, or something else entirely.

The ridge before them would be the last one, then they would be entering the base. Most likely they would face a security team on alert waiting for them to arrive. This was not going to be an easy mission, logistically or emotionally.

Abalar wasn’t terribly happy. Sure, things were going well so far, but if she knew anything, Jester was going to run into some major trouble pretty quick. They always did.

Oh sure, she was thrilled to be back with Jester, don’t get her wrong. Aeos and Brightstar were two of her very first squad-mates. Snipes wasn’t around to ditch her in an alleyway in the middle of a war zone. The rest she assumed were dead. She couldn’t ask for much more. Abalar hated the cold though. Why did she always return to combat just in time to be shipped off to a frigid planet? Seriously, standing almost knee deep in snow was not her idea of a good time. However, what else could the young sergeant do? All hail the Emperor and what not.

Abalar vaguely remembered Jana Sleicer from a couple years ago.

“Its funny how the world comes full circle,” Abalar thought to herself. “And you still have a gun pretty much pointed at your back.”

In the foot deep snow, Jana seemed to be having a hard time. If Abalar had been in a better mood, she’d sympathize with the woman. Abalar was certainly finding it not easy going, and when she quickly glanced around, she could see everyone’s head bowed as the focused on where their feet were going.

For about a click, coms were kept on minimum chatter. It was clear that the main focus of all Jesters was to get where they needed to go as fast as possible, and avoid as many mercenaries as possible. Abalar still couldn’t believe her clone, Harlequin, had disappeared with the rest of ARC Theta. Known only as Harlequin, Abalar thought of her almost as a sister, though the two had only met once, just before Harlequin set out on her first mission. Abalar had always assumed they meet again, though that assumption seemed to be more like a glimmer of hope now.

Brightstar suddenly stopped and knelt down, and though she used hand signals for her squad to follow, everyone did so without a glance at Bright. Abalar was surprised that she didn’t need to drag Jana down with her, for she too dropped with the rest of Jester. In the silence, Abalar could pick up the sound of roughly three men, walking in the fresh, crunchy snow. They were either far enough away not to be too much of a threat, or light footed. From her almost three years of experience, Abalar assumed the later.

Bright motioned Abalar and Aeos to fan out and precede a little ways ahead, in the hopes of determining where they were. Both nodded in understanding and headed in opposite directions, away from the rest of the Jesters. They kept each other within sight as they slowly made their way forward. Very quickly the sound of the mercs in the snow got louder. Aeos suddenly stopped. Abalar mimicked her, and watched as Aeos signalled that she saw tracks. Quickly glancing ahead, Abalar scanned the snow for tracks. Within moments she saw one line of freshly disturbed snow, heading right to left. However, Abalar couldn’t hear any more sounds. The mercs, or merc as it appeared, had stopped. Chances were they were doing exactly what Jester was doing: waiting and listening.

The hair on Abalar’s neck stood up. Aeos apparently had the same feeling, because she signalled to head slowly back to the rest of Jester. With every carefully placed footstep, Abalar cursed the snow. Every snowflake compacting under her boots seemed to resonate a hundred times louder than it should have. They had half the distance left when Abalar saw them: three mercs, trying to circle around Jester on Ae’s side. Abalar clicked a warning over the comlink, and Jester assembled on their position in a matter of moments. Of course, the sudden movement and sound alerted the mercs that their presence was known. They sent off a warning shots in Jester’s direction. Abalar knew right away they were up against well trained mercs because all three shots came within a couple feet of Jester members.

Jester returned fire, but the snow suddenly picked up, blinding both sides.

“How are we supposed to fight in this?” Abalar heard Jana say.

“Very carefully,” one of the men said. Abalar didn’t know either of them, so she couldn’t determine whose voice the comment belonged to.

“Keep quiet and focus,” Brightstar said.

“Its not like they’re much threat,” Jana continued. “There is only three of them.”

As if the mercs heard her, three well placed shots were fired over Jana’s head. If she hadn’t almost lying in the snow, they certainly would have hit. That kept Jana quiet.

In the following minutes, Jester managed to hit one of the mercs because the blaster rate dropped. In another long moment, Jester heard a loud yelp of a merc being shot and injured. Abalar could understand, blaster fire hurt. Just as quickly as the blaster fire started, it ended.

“Hold fire,” Brightstar said. By the tone of her voice, it seemed she wasn’t used to the command position, at least from Abalar’s perspective. Maybe she was wrong.

In the silence, Jester could hear receding footsteps.

“Shouldn’t we go after them?” Jana asked, annoyed.

“It wouldn’t make much difference in this heavy snowfall. We’d be more blind if we were running in this. At least we know they are expecting us now,” Bright said. “Well, check your clips, and assume positions.”

Jester did so as Brightstar spoke, and the soon carried on. Com silence was maintained for the next two clicks, until they reached the entrance. No one wanted to be ambushed, and now that their presence was known, it was certainly a real risk of happening.

“Lets just hope RAIDERS has turned on the power,” Abalar thought as they cleared the last ten feet.

The minute that shuttle door had opened, Therex was instantly in the best mood since joining the Army. The cold frigid air, and blank white scenery, brought back memories of his childhood. All Chiss loved the cold.

However, when they were laying in foot deep snow, the feeling began to wane. Because of growing up on Csilla, Therex was having a slightly easier time than the others in the snow. It wasn't deep but it was very dry and powdery, causing it to collapse at every step.

At one point they encountered some mercs. The fight had been short, with one escaped mercenary. Slowly watching his receding heat signatures, Therex cursed his lack of foresight. If he had brought his Suppressors, he could have taken the fleeing man down. Instead, he had opted to use his shotgun, expecting not to be in too many firefights.

Just as the tiny red blip evaporated into a sea of purples and blues, Bright ordered the squad back together. Therex turned toward the squad, sliding a lead slug into his shotgun, in case they ran into more trouble.

Thankfully, they hadn't run into anymore trouble on their way to the base. Moving slowly, they navigated their way around the outer wall, making their way towards the elevator. Watching the squad in front of him, Therex began to run a critical eye over it's newest member. He had no idea what her history was, and quite frankly, from personal experience he knew that most people had pasts that were meant to be buried. His eye socket began to throb as memories of his brother started to come back. Stopping, Therex forced it all back into the back of his mind. He didn't want another incident, here in the middle of a mission.

By the time Therex caught up with the squad, they were crouching behind some shrubs, with a clear run to the elevator door. They had to be careful in this last stretch, especially since they had a couple guards right next to their target. Bright considered the situation and whispered something to the new member and she nodded in reply. Slowly, she slid to one side with Bright and they both approached the door, using snow berms for marginal cover. When they were maybe 20 or so feet from the door, Bright motioned at her comrade. In unison they rose and fired one shot each, bringing down both guards, quietly and effectively.

Bright waved the rest of the squad over. When he reached the door, Therex pulled out a thumbnail sized chunk of detonite, and placed on the slightly outdated lock. Corrosion and weathering were evident all over the door. Bright looked at him, skeptical. "You sure that will get us in?" she asked. Without responding Therex stepped around the corner and pulled out his detonator.

The squad stepped back when Therex squeezed the trigger. At first nothing happened. Therex hit the button again with the same result. Something was terribly wrong. This had never happened to him before. Checking the detonator yielded no results. Everything should have worked. Approaching the door, Therex checked the diode in the detonite. Reaching out he touched it. At his touch, the detonite heated up and became unstable.

Therex's eyes went wide, as the charge went off with tenfold force than usual. He was thrown back about 3 meters, and he skidded in the snow for about another meter. Getting up he coughed and smiled at his squad.

"Tah-dah," he said weakly.

Looking down, he noticed his armor was relatively unscathed. Without it, that blast could have done some serious damage. Getting back on his feet, Therex brushed himself off and surveyed the door. It was blown clean out of it's frame. You can bet someone heard that.

Bright must have thought the same thing, because she moved a little more hastily, and readied her blaster, while the medic patched him up.

I am really starting to like today. It jut got interesting.
"He has his orders, and when a Chiss accepts orders he carries them out, period."

"He's in there, I was gonna shoot him but I was... busy."

"Chiss don't invade the territories of others. We don't even make war against potential enemies unless we're attacked first."

"You have to admire the Chiss. They don't just steal your technology—they make it better."

"I served with Whiskey yanno."

Havock had slowed her pace once the base was visible. She was confident in Brightstar's ability to handle the squad and watch over Jana for now. The skills of the ARC troopers they attached to Jester was another matter though.

"What was your callsign again? I'm pretty awful with names."

"Especially expendable ones I'm guessing ma'am." The young man crouched with her behind an embankment of snow. The entry to the elevator was only five meters in front of her, several troopers had already started to work on making their way in. "Sergeant Meyers, callsign Shield. When I saw you in the briefing ma'am, I've gotta be honest, I thought you were a ghost."

"I actually get that a lot Meyers."

ARC had only three ranks. Sergeant being the lowest, followed by Lieutenant, and finally Commander. Even though Meyers was the lowest rank you had to be a trooper, and an exceptional one at that, to be chosen for ARC. It was an honor in and of itself, which most troopers would love to take advantage of. The armor alone was fairly awesome, as far as Havock was concerned.

"I'm not Whiskey." She muttered somewhat sadly.

An explosion shook the ground sending waves of snow falling on Havock's helmet. She rolled to her back, making sure Meyers was on look out. "What in the name of frak just happened?"

The comm crackled for a second before the reply. "THX opened a door for us."

"Bright, he also send a gorram postcard to everyone in the base that we are here. I'm going to kick his blue ass back to Tadath."

Aeos broke in on the conversation. "We need to move, now or never."

Havock slapped Meyers on the shoulder and they both stayed crouched and ran for the now open door. Doing a quick visual count, she could tell they all had arrived in the lift. Lukas had already gotten to work on the keypad.

Jana made eye contact with Havock then addressed Brightstar. "The lift will take us directly to the upper command level. Its going to be heavily guarded, and we will be backed into a corner fighting."

"Sounds fantastic, don't suppose we could opt out?"

Havock shook her head to indicate a solid no.

Jana continued. "The computer systems can be easily accessed from that room, you can lock down whatever you want from there."

"Okay we are good to go." Lukas chimed in.

Havock grabbed a the side of the lift. "This isn't a quick trip, its several floors, so hold on and get comfortable. I hope you all showered."

Bright did not like using explosive force to enter a building. Her anger at the chiss private wasn't completely evident through her face plate. She did a bit of cursing to herself before Havock had asked what had happened.  She couldn't blame the woman, in fact Bright would help her to 'kick his blue ass back to Tadath.' As she had so eloquently put it.

She was not a fan of long lift rides to any place underground. It wasn't natural to go under, and Bright had fought with small tight spaces her entire life. She always found something else to focus on. Now however, she was in a cramped lift with several other people going to some location under the surface of the planet. She was beginning to seriously doubt her own competence when she heard it.

“What the frak is that sound?” Therex asked standing straighter with his helmeted head tilted to the side. Bright was impressed he could even still hear anything.

As everyone stood still and became quieter, she could here it. “I believe that is what some people of the civilian population, call Elevator Music.” Bright said bracing herself for the inevitable.

“You have got to be kidding me.” Havock growled from beside her. The two women shared a look that neither one of them needed to take their helmets off to see. Bright knew the look well enough, and thinking about it now was almost enough to make her laugh.

A string of muttered curses  from behind her signaled another unimpressed trooper. She looked behind her to see that it was Abalar. Bright had never heard the woman curse before let alone so colorfully. “May I please get rid of the noise, Bright?” She asked in a grumpy tone.

Bright looked over at Jana when the tech laughed. “What?” She shrugged. “It's perfectly normal to hear music in a lift.”

“Typical civvie.” Aeos muttered.

“Oh alright people listen to me then.” Bright said half amused. “We need a plan of action, I am not a strategist by any meaning of the word. Havock?” The acting squad leader looked at the company commander, a wave of nostalgia washing over her. How many times had she turned to the Major for orders like this?

“Do you still carry flash bangs wherever you go?” Havock asked. At Bright's nod, Havock  continued. “When the doors open use a flash bang or two, then everybody pile out firing. I'll stay close to Jana and keep her covered.”

Bright nodded, it made sense. Silently she wondered what she was going to do without Havock in the long run. “We could just dump the techie, we already have someone who can work with computers.” Bright didn't even think, she simply reacted.

She had the muzzle of her blaster pressed against the thin black glove undergarment between Therex's helmet and chest plate. “If you suggest something of the sort again I will not hesitate to shoot you.” She said darkly. “I want to make this very clear. No one, I repeat  no one is going to do anything to Jana, dumping her is not an option.” She looked at the rest of the squad while taking her blaster from the chiss's neck. No one in the lift moved. “I am leading this squad, and I will not tolerate anyone torturing, a civilian for information. If they surrender then restrain them and leave them.”

Bright didn't know just what had come over her, except she wanted everyone to know that this was not going to be like the last time she was on Anteevy. “Security, mercs, and guards of any kind should be your targets. If a civilian takes up arms against you, then you may shoot, but you had best shoot straight.”  She looked at Jana. “I will not allow them to shoot or kill a civilian tech, or scientist,  who has surrendered, but I cannot and will not expect them to take fire and not return it. Civilian or not.”

For a long moment Jana and Bright stared at each other. Both women were undoubtedly recalling events from Days of Anteevy past. Finally Jana nodded. Bright wasn't sure if the woman just realized that the red head wasn't Angel or if there was still smidgen of trust still there. Bright nodded in turn and  turned in the lift. “Have I made myself clear?” She asked

When everyone had confirmed that she had made herself perfectly clear, Bright nodded and made her way to stand in front of the doors. Hearing the private channel in her comm unit crackle and then emit Havock's voice, Bright stiffened. “Rain, I do believe that is the first time I have ever seen you take control so thoroughly.”

The acting squad leader held her breath. “Well done.” Hearing those two words, Bright let her breath out. She nodded but kept her stance rigid.

A few moments later Lukas informed them that they were only two meters from their objective. Bright grabbed a flash bang grenade from her belt and readied herself. The moment the doors opened she called, “Eyes!” and let the grenade fly. Clenching her own eyes closed she waited for the bang and opened her eyes again running out of the lift with her blaster blazing. She found some cover and perched behind it. By the time that the mercenaries knew what had happened she had killed two of them and the rest of her squad had joined in, taking advantage of the enemies momentary blindness and deafness, to find cover of their own.

“And now the fun begins.” She muttered to herself.

After Brightstar’s speech, the past came flooding back. Abalar remembered Anteevy. She remembered it well. She remembered the bloodshed, she remembered Jana. Abalar also remembered . Abalar quietly leant up against the elevator wall to steady herself, thankful that she was on the outside edge. She knew all to well what would happen to her if the past continued to flood into her mind. It hadn’t been pretty, and Jester had seen her as damaged goods for the rest of her time with them. Brightstar and Aeos had been there. If both didn’t remember, Brightstar surely did. She had been the one to bring Abalar out of her coma-like state.

Abalar reached up with her bare cybernetic arm and touched her helmet, remembering Brightstar’s saving slap. Never had she been so happy to be slapped, before or since.

“Two metres.”

All of Jester straightened and readied their guns.

“Eyes!”

Abalar squeezed her eyes shut and turned her head slightly to one side. As soon as the bang went off, Jester charged out of the elevator like mynocks out of Hell. Before Abalar had the chance to take cover, Bright had already shot two. One more went down by the time Abalar reached her cover: a turned over table to the far left of the room. It had been one of the few tables without computers. She caught movement out of the corner of her eye and spun towards it, flipping onto her back so she would slide up against the table, and placed her cybernetic finger on the trigger. It was Jana. Thank the Emperor she shot with her right hand. Her finger released from the trigger before she even thought about doing so.

“Shit, I almost shot you!” Abalar yelled. Now she remembered why she hated civvies. They always seemed to move just within your blind spot, and Abalar was particularly jumpy with things in that area. Her cybernetic arm was a testament as to why.

“I’m sure that wouldn’t have bothered you.” Jana replied, her tone cold.

Brightstar’s words echoed in her mind. Abalar was sure she was trying to avoid a repeat of Jester’s previous mission on Anteevy. The bloodshed that Angel had brought had been over the top, and completely unnecessary. Abalar herself had avoided the SL and ASL as much as possible to prevent murdering the innocent. Sure it had been a violation of a direct order, but Abalar knew that if she had carried out those orders, she would have jumped out an airlock as soon as she had left Anteevy all those years ago.

Abalar didn’t respond. She didn’t know what Jana was trying to goad her into but Abalar was sure it wasn’t going to work.

The flashbang was starting to wear off. Abalar could hear a decrease in movement from behind her cover. They were good, she would give them that. The mercs knew they were making noise and stopped doing it.

“Its only been that long?” Abalar thought, her heart sinking. It felt like it had been hours since that grenade had been left off.

“Alright Jesters, let the fun begin,” Havock said over the comlink.

Within seconds the room was filled with blaster fire. Computers exploded left right and center as mercs and Jesters alike dove and weaved behind the desks. Eveytime Abalar popped her head out to shoot she was met with heavy fire.

“There has to be at least twenty five of those mercs Brightstar!” Abalar said, hiding the panic in her voice.

These were not good odds at all. Someone was going to get shot sooner or later, and Abalar really hoped it wasn’t Jana, though odds were it was going to be the civilian.

“Just keep at it!” Brightstar and Havock said in unison.

Abalar half smiled under her helmet and managed to get another one down. THX was also lucky enough to shoot one just as the merc was bringing his head up to aim.

“Twenty more to go,” Abalar thought to herself.

It was then something inside her awoke. A nervous feeling, overpowering anything she was feeling. Abalar glanced to her left where Jana had taken cover beside her. The bloody woman was standing up!

“Get your ass down!” Abalar yelled at Jana. Of course, Jana ignored her.

Furious, Abalar quickly half stood and hauled Jana down to the floor. Blaster fire grazed her back as Abalar was ducking back into cover. A series of shots fired through the very space that Jana had occupied moments ago.

“Havock, Brightstar, I can’t take this anymore. I’m sending the civie over to you. I need cover fire.”

Jester clicked they understood.

“Now!”

As Jester stood to give cover fire, Abalar grabbed and half dragged, half threw Jana to her feet and over towards Havock, who, thankfully, was only a few feet away. Being at least half intelligent, Jana didn’t try to turn around or stop, and even started running towards Havock. Abalar didn’t see her finish for she turned to aid in the cover fire.

Abalar say five more go down, bringing the number down to twenty.

“FRACK,” roared a male voice. Abalar still couldn’t tell the men apart. Instinctively the blond crouched behind the overturned table, ready to make a run towards the injured trooper.

As the medic, she was the first to respond. “You alright?”

“Yeah, the bugger nicked my armour.”

Abalar sighed, what a baby. “You’ll live, but it’ll sting like hell for the next while.” Abalar wasn’t trying to sound cold, it was just that she had better things to do than to run over and patch up a nonexistent wound.

“Some medic you are you…” The rest was cut out either from the sudden increase in blaster fire, or the owner of the voice had realized the com channel was still open and had promptly closed it.

Abalar shook her head and returned her focus to the fight. The mercs had settled themselves if well. She assumed the two mercs that escaped them on the surface had made sure of that. They even had a good barricade set on the far side of the room.

“Next time, no merc escapes,” Abalar thought to herself grimly. “We can’t keep going up against odds like this.”

Blaster fire whizzed over Lukas' head but it didn't phase him, he had seen so much combat over the years it never got really easier, not that it bothered him at all. Comm chatter came on an off again as the Jester's came out of the elevator and got behind cover. The new ARC troopers were all good and everything...but to Lukas they seemed like green horns, itching to get into action, he was curious to see as how they would act when the bantha dung hit the fan.

Lukas heard that they were heavily outnumbered and not to mention they had a civilian with them. This was new to Lukas because in all the years in the Vast Empire he had the luxury of not going on missions with civilians because they always got in the way. He watched Abalar throw the civillian towards Havock as the lay down cover fire to get her away from the action as best they could.

He downed a few more well trained mercs with some careless mistakes they had made by not being in complete cover and leaving some of there hind quarters exposed from behind some blaster shredded desks with computers lying in pieces from the fighting that had gone on. Lukas got up and dove over a desk to get to some more decent cover, tackling a merc over and proceeding to stab him in the neck with his knife and then took his blaster and began shooting over the desk to pin some more mercenaries down.

"I managed to down a few more of there men Bright, I can provide more cover fire for you guys so you can move up if you have too" Lukas said into the comm piece as more blaster fire erupted from the mercenaries in retaliation for what he had done to there fellow mate.

Lukas took a frag grenade out, primed it, counted to three then threw it over behind one of the desks on the far right side of the room and heard an explosion go off proceeding to drown out screams of mercenaries.

Bright sat with her back to her cover. Havock and Jana were five feet to her right, Abalar farther away than that, also to her right. She had no visual on Therex and she was sure now that Lukas was in front of her somewhere. Aeos was on her left and roughly eight feet away. Gritting her teeth she growled. The frontal approach was the Blackjack thing not the Jester thing. Jesters were infiltrators on a scale that Wraith had been back in the day. In fact her entire career she had been in a squad specialized for reconnaissance and infiltration. Jester had even handled criminal investigations in it's last incarnation.

“If this is what happens when we take the front door, I say leave it for Blackjack. I'll do the sneaking around.” She said to herself more than to anyone else.

“I managed to down a few more of their men, Bright. I can provide more cover fire for you guys so you can move up if you have too.” Lukas's voice said in her ear. She clicked a confirmation and chanced a peek around the edge of her cover.

She was not expecting another explosion, but she didn't care at the moment. “Do try to leave some computers intact. Jana needs at least one to work with.” She commed to her squad.

Using the frag explosion as her cue, Bright moved from her cover and up to where Lukas now sat. She wasn't sure how many mercenaries were left but the returning fire had begun to dwindle and slow. Looking over at Lukas she nodded. “Cover me.” She told him.

He gave her a thumbs up and she she moved. Her finger on her blaster's trigger she laid down a suppressing spray of red blaster bolts in the enemies direction, two more mercs met their ends and she couldn't be sure if it was because of her or Lukas. Taking cover behind another table, she checked her power levels. Frowning slightly she took stock of her location relative to the rest of her squad.  She'd moved forward about ten feet.

“What do you think, Hav, another flash bang or a feint?” Bright said through her comms.

“Just do what you need to do, Rain.” Havock replied.

“Good God's woman, was that supposed to help?” Bright replied grabbing another flash bang grenade from her belt. She didn't prime it. These mercs were well trained and smart. They would not allow themselves to be blinded again. But that didn't mean they couldn't be fooled.

“You asked me what I thought,” Havock said amusement evident in her voice. “That's what I was thinking.”

The acting squad leader reigned in a retort and let her unprimed grenade fly. All enemy fire stopped and she heard one of them call out, “Watch your eyes!” That was when she made her move. She signaled for Lukas to follow.  They stood up and stormed forward blasting the mercs that they saw. It took them a few seconds to realize that the grenade had not gone off but it didn't take the remainder of them long to return fire.

While Lukas found more cover, Bright had been a bit slower and she felt her armor take a few glancing hits before she found cover herself.

“What the!”

“How the hell!”

Both voices were either silenced or turned to gargles as a new series of shots were fired. Standing up with her blaster at the ready, Bright was surprised that she didn't take any fire. Carefully she stepped forward with her finger on the trigger.

“I'm standing up, Brightstar, don't shoot.” One of the ARC troopers commed. “Maroni, and I pincered them while you and your troopers did your thing.” Meyers said standing up slowly.

Bright lowered her weapon and looked around. Unbelievably Jester squad had come out on top. “Everyone good?” She asked.

Slowly the rest of Jester stood. “I think we're all good.” Aeos murmured, “now may we please just get down to business.”

Narrowing her eyes, Bright looked at the other woman for a solid minute before she nodded. “Alright everyone on your guards. Meyers, Maroni, you two watch the entrance over there.” She pointed across the room to a door that looked like it had seen much better days. “Lukas, Therex, you two take the opposite entrance. Our fire fight will not have gone unnoticed. And this base is huge, there is no telling how many more of their friends are in the base.”

Looking around, Bright saw that Havock and Jana were already working at a computer that had not been destroyed in the fire fight. “Abalar make your way around the squad and check for any injuries. I know everyone said they were good, but that doesn't mean anything.” The medic nodded and got to work.

Breathing a sigh, Bright removed her helmet  and made her way over to were Havock and Jana and now Aeos had congregated. “I'm bringing the systems up now.” Jana said, her fingers flying over the keys with practiced ease. “If we get stuck down here with a ton of mercenaries and security, don't get mad at me. Get mad at whoever wanted the top layers of the base locked down.” Her eyes never left her work. Bright had to admit that she appeared much more confident now than she did two years ago.

“Such is life, Jana. Nobody said it was fair.” Bright said. “Let me know when your done.”

OOC:
Ok peoples, the initial fire fight is done. Jana is working on locking down the top layers of the base but has not yet achieved it. Your next posts should either detail what your character is doing or you can write a post from the PoV of our two ARC Troopers. Jana will not be finished hacking until Havock or I posts or unless I give you permission.

Lukas looked around the room and surveyed the carnage that had just gotten over with. Blaster bolt marks pock marked the walls, shot through computers, and over turned desks that had been flipped over without hesitation. There were papers everywhere either torn in half or scattered all over. Lukas watched as Bright took off her helmet and talked to them, not taking his eyes off of her until she stopped talking and giving them orders.

Before walking over to the door way he an Therex were going to cover he decided to check himself to see if he had been hit during the firefight even though Abalar was going to come around and check him. He ran his fingers up and down the armor he had, had since the beginning of his Vast Empire career. Blaster scorch marks scarred various parts of the under armor, some had even faded so he wouldn't really be able to tell if he had been hit or not since they all looked the same.

He had 4 frags attached to his belt on the left side, 4 flash bangs on the right, towards the back of his belt he had a small pouch that contained some grey metallic spheres with crossbones etched into them that when thrown hard they would explode and cause smoke to come out. He had had these since bringing them to the Vast Empire and they had saved him and his squad mates countless times so he never left his barracks room without them. His fingertips brushed over the knife hilt, making sure his Heib and Stitch knife was still there as well. Last but not least he had brought his old and trusted friend, Whisper, his Sniper rifle he had back in his Wraith days, it was placed on a sling attached to his back. This thing had seen more action than most green horns did in there life time for war, if they were lucky to survive there first firefight of course.

Lukas returned an overturned table to its upright position before setting his sniper rifle down on the table. He broke it down, cleaned it, and reassembled it in a matter of minutes. He also made sure that his blaster pistol was reloaded and armed before returning to its holster on his side. He then flipped the table back onto its side just in case some more mercenaries try to rain on the Jester's parade while the civilian was working.

He leaned up against the wall near the entrance he was to cover and waited for Abalar to come to him and check him for injuries. His eyes glided over the room once or twice more to study escape routes and took other mental notes. Abalar came to him after a few minutes and checked him over.

"Looks like you only have a few blaster marks that grazed you during the firefight, other than that you look fine and perfectly good to me." Abalar stated. Lukas nodded in return to acknowledge her.

He then turned around and looked at the door that stood between him, the squad, and the enemies. It didn't look so sturdy, like the door on the other side of the room. Lukas had Therex take two over turned tables and put them on there sides facing the door way so they could be behind cover in case the door were to be blown open or kicked in. Lukas knew that there was more action to come, it was only a matter of time because with all the explosions and what not, there would be more men to come rushing to there deaths.

And with that, Lukas sat behind one of the overturned tables making sure nothing would get past him if it came through that door.

Jana's hands moved deftly across the keyboard. Havock had to hope that they could get the lockdown in place before the upper levels were evacuated. It still blew her mind that the 'upper' levels were actually still several levels below where they actually were,

"Any injuries Major?" Havock blinked and looked at the squads medic, Abalar. They knew each other, but only in passing. It had actually been quite awhile since the two had seen each other.

"No, I'm fine."

"Frisk her."

Havock and Abalar both turned to look at Brightstar. The red head was searching through the rubble. A couple other squadmembers were joining her, while the rest had taken positions near the exits.

"Seriously, if Havock ever actually admits to being injured she's probably running a fever and delirious." The acting squad leader looked up and smirked.

Everyone had taken off their helmets except the troopers guarding the doors. Havock preferred to keep hers off whenever possible, the thing had a great HUD but was stuffy as hell.

Abalar shrugged and moved to frisk, poke, or in some other way determine if the company commander was injured.

"Whoa stand down there Sergeant. I'm good."

Brightstar chuckled and got back to her searching. There wasn't going to be much to find in their current location, which appeared to be little more than some kind of data entry office. The walls were lined with cubicles and reeked of the boredom that had to come with such a job.

A small black semi-circle attached to the roof caught Havock's eye. "Sleicer, what's that?" She was careful not to point, and Jana was smart enough to just follow her line of sight.

Jana shrugged once she figured out which device Havock was referring to, then returned to her work. "Its a security cam, they are throughout the base."

"So in other words, the upper command has been watching us, identifying us, and they know exactly where we are and how many of us there are. Did I get that all correct?" Havock's voice was monotone and tense. If the enemy knew who they were, they knew infinitely more than Jester or anyone in Phoenix knew about them. She really didn't like that.

"Well, yes."

Brightstar slowly stood up and her violet eyes met Havock's blue ones. The two women had worked together and grown close enough to not need words to communicate. Havock shot her eyes back to the security cam behind her and the one she initially found in front of her. Brightstar sagely nodded.

"Okay I'm done." Alarm klaksons sounded in the area just below them. The doors would be locking down, sealing the higher ups where they stood. "We should be good to go."

Havock winked at Brightstar, who smirked back. "Okay Jesters, follow me." The others immediately fell into line behind the company commander. She walked at a steady pace until she was just under the security cam, then raised her E-45 which was a signal to Brightstar to do the same. The two women fired at the same moment, not missing a step in their stride.

Lukas flinched. "What the frak are you two doing?"

Havock stopped and checked her cam, then looked back to see Brightstar's cam smoking in the distance. "To the vents?"

"Sounds like you." Brightstar made sure everyone was listening then continued. "Now that our enemy things we are using the front door, lets hop in the vents and drop in on the command center which should be just below us. Our objective is the same, infiltrate the upper level command, cut off the snakes head."

Her personal com clicked on. "Couldn't have said it better myself Rain. Let's go do some damage shall we.'

"I'm ready when you are Ayme."

OOC:
Now the upper levels are locked down, we are going to find our way in (and hopefully use this method to have a way out as well.) Same game, infiltrate, kick ass, take names. Carry on Jester.

Finally they were doing something that was normal, at least normal for Bright. She smiled to herself and wondered if she had spent too much time sneaking around with the RAIDERS and just sneaking around in general. Shaking her head she watched as Meyers, one of their ARC attachments, climbed into the vent first. It was a tight fit for him and he'd even had to remove the shoulder pads of his armor to even get inside.  When Bright had asked if he was claustrophobic, he had simply shrugged and inspected the vent.

“Tell me again why the big guy is going first.” Abalar asked, a tone of worry in her voice.  She watched as he disappeared for a few moments then reappeared.

“Your tech was right about the dimensions,” He said climbing out of the vent and waving Bright over, “it opens up wider  about nine feet in. A good eight inches I'd say, and gives about six inches of more head room.”

Bright nodded and handed her rifle to Aeos while she climbed into the vent herself. As vents, air ducts, small service areas, and such were her specialty, Bright had declared that she would be taking point this time. Once she was in she had Ae hand up her rifle and she was off. As she made her way forward she listened for sounds of the rest of the squad joining her.  She hadn't set an order as to who would follow and when, but she was certain that smaller of them would be going first. That meant that the sound behind her was likely Jana or perhaps Abalar. Both women were roughly the same size, with the exception of the fact that Abalar wore armor.

Feeling the sweat forming on the back of her neck, Bright stopped for a deep breath. She refused to focus on where she had found herself.  It was not something that she generally focused on at all. Now however, she was stuck underground and reduced to crawling through vents to achieve her objectives. Moving forward again, she noticed the spacing begin to widen just where Meyers had said that it would, and she felt a little bit of her fear dissipate. It was not common  knowledge, her fear of tight spaces, or even her fear of being underground, she'd always had something else to focus on when in situations like this. Now she was the leader, and had to be calm and collected. A task she was finding increasingly difficult the farther into this base that they went.

“Bright.” So it had been Abalar that followed her. “Jana wanted me to tell you that when we get to the four way, we want to go left.”

“Understood.” Bright said as she continued to crawl on all fours.

Breathing slowly and steadily, and using a technique she learned as a child on Bakura, Bright started to recall her language tutor. He had taught her to count in five different languages and up to five thousand. She whispered those numbers now, in Basic and in Bithian, Bothese, Huttese, Bocce, and Durese. She was just becoming impressed with how much she remembered when she spotted the four way split in the vent.

Silently she turned to the left one and sighed happily. It looked as though this one was a service vent, built for specialists to make their way in and make repairs to this sector of the ventilation systems for the facility. “Ayme, we have ourselves a service vent. Does Jana have any idea where it leads?”  For a moment the red head cursed herself for not finding Jana a headset at least.

The slight crackle signaled Havock's answer, “Leads to  a stairwell on the level below the one we just vacated.” Havock replied.

Now why can't I be calm and focused like her? Bright asked herself. By this point her pulse was pounding in her ears and she was ready to just blow the base to hell so she could just go home. Her personal issues warred with her sense of honor and duty to the VE and to her squad. She was stubborn though, and so far honor and duty were winning.

“Rain, when we get back to Tadath, I'm taking you cave diving.” Havock  said, the smile on her face evident in her voice.

The acting squad leader swore colorfully and started to think of a retort when she heard a series of panicked voices ahead of her. Bright signaled for the squad to stop moving.  She did not want their presence known.

“Frak! Even the service doors are locked down.” An angry male voice growled as the sound of his fist, or maybe his foot connected with the service stairwell door. “Total lock down. Everything is locked from this floor and  up by three.”

“You mean they locked us down here to rot?” A female voice questioned. She sounded older calmer than the others, but there was still an underlying trace of fear in her voice. “Are there no fail safes to override the lock down procedures?”

“We've tried those codes already. They seem to have been either changed or a system virus was unleashed that burned through them making them unusable.” Another man said, his voice dry.

Bright grinned. Jana had done it again. She was practically shouting in there faces that she was the one that had done it, just like last time. She waited until she was certain that the people had gone back to whatever room they had come from and she continued forward slowly until she came to a vent grate. Shifting to be able to see if there was any security posted in the stairwell, Bright was unable to see beyond a few feet in the direction she was looking.

She sighed and keyed her comms again. “Ok looks like the stair way is clear but I can't be sure. I can only see a few feet in either direction.” Bright said quietly, “It looks like we're going to have to take a chance.” She finished.

OOC:
Ok Jesters, I got us to the service stairwell, you choose whether it is guarded or not. As a side note I would like to remind you that I will be the first one out of the vent. Don't get me killed.

Therex hung back till the last person was in the vent and tentatively followed. As they moved forward, he could the squad's chatter cut off unexpectedly, and was replaced by two voices, a male and a female. Most likely a security group trapped on this level. Bright's voice came over the com when the man and woman walked off.

“Ok looks like the stair way is clear but I can't be sure. I can only see a few feet in either direction. It looks like we're going to have to take a chance.” she whispered.

Therex craned his neck upward and watched the back end of Bright slide out of the vent. If she wasn't a human, he might find her attractive. His line of thought was cut short when Bright hit the floor a little harder than she expected.

"What the heck is she doing?", Therex hissed over the com. He then heard several footsteps running in their direction. Bright came over the com again.

"Get your butts down here. They are coming from the stairs." she yelled, obviously panicked.

Therex heard the thud of army boots, as the squad poured out of the vent. As he approached the hole, the first shot was fired. A stray shot pinged near the vent, shearing one of the supports clean off. The whole vent tilted to one side, throwing Therex against the wall. The shift of weight pulled another support out, causing the whole vent to tip down and deposit Therex in the middle of the fight. Still lying on the floor he pulled up his shotgun and fired a lead slug into the chest of one of the mercs. Thanking the multitude of God's for his hindsight to already have his gun loaded.

Bracing himself, he stood and slid a full magazine into his shotgun. Suddenly an arm grabbed him and one of the ARCs pulled him behind what little cover their was. Nodding at the trooper, Therex readied himself. Letting out a breath, he swings his gun around the corner and joins his squad in firing. In a couple minutes they were done. Therex ejected his empty magazine and replaced it, and the rest of the squad covered the stairway, readying for another attack.

He leaned over to one of his squadmtes and said, "And I thought I was the only klutz here."

Bright's harsh voice came over the com, "Next time you wanna talk about superiors, please have the decency to mute your squad com."

Smiling under his helmet, Therex took up position while they figured out their next move.

Aeos shook her head.
Take a chance.  She thought bemused at the ease with which the woman spoke.

As much as she respected and perhaps even liked the fresh Squad Leader, she wasn’t completely amped at taking a chance. Was she like that a couple of years ago? She repressed a snort. No. Definitely not.  Their crawling had slowed down to a snail’s pace as each trooper dropped from the vents and immediately proceeded engaging the enemy.

The skirmish was quick and pumped all their adrenaline levels through the roof again. Within minutes it was over with all casualties on the other side of the line. For now.

She was working in retired capacity, responding to missions like these for reasons beyond her scope. Perhaps, knowing both her sisters was in this. That Whiskey was part of a team who failed to report back while in enemy territory.  She brushed the thought off with a mental shrug. No. She was however consulting from previous encounter with these circumstances, although there were many troopers still on duty who could boast the same. However, the more experience, the better the estimates hence her presence.

“Okay, coast seems clear, I’m moving.”  She heard Bright mutter.  The woman whipped around the corner of the stairwell and pressed her back to the wall again. They crawled forward again, she on the heels of Abalar filling the space Bright had voided. Abalar was next to disappear around the corner, and Aeos followed lithely and quickly. Even if the coast was clear, the scene would be treated as hot until it was cleared and everyone was present.

Something nagged in the back of her mind. She didn’t like this approach. It was…predictable. Shoot the camera, chase the vents.  Although at the same time, the scenario could also swing the other way.  The enemy had lost visual of them, and most possibly to enter through the vents and dropkick on them on. But if the enemy went blind, they would not know whether the Jesters were entering through the vents, the front door as Havock had termed it or an alternative forcing them to split their protective forces to all entrances.

The fact that they remained in the base that had been almost destroyed in the previous also meant something. The bastards were confident about their security even it had been compromised. Confident or stupid, and the combination was deadly. It made them unpredictable.  Top that with locking them down she thought.  For now the enemy was the rats, and they were the mouse but how soon until those positions reversed?

She pressed her back against the wall breathing heavily from the stairs, covering Abby who was covering Bright.  Even if the service stairwell was rarely used, there was bound to be a camera as well.  She bit her lip. Did they have the funds to rewire all the security after the previous B&E? And if so, where did the funds come from? Had a trace on their finances been attempted?  She wasn’t interested in interfering with the proceeds of the mission yet at the same time she would have to voice her concerns. She slapped at herself mentally,  her superiors knew how to do their job. She had to do hers.

Behind her, the rest of the squad was exiting the vents as well with some of the boys sighing in relief to be out. She ignored Havock.  She wasn’t as close with Whiskey as Havock even though those two had spent almost two thirds of their lives apart, the bond of a twin was impossible to break. She was concerned however, not just for the ARC twin, but feared Havock might be operating in diminished capacity. She trusted the Company Commander to be efficient, but she also knew her to make stupid decisions in a fraction of a second if she was subjectively compromised. She was here to ensure those fraction of a second would not result in death.

“Bright...since they already know we’re here, we’ve lost the element of surprise. We might as well knock out security and leave them blind to our location. They know we know they know….if that made sense.  They know our alternative to the corridors are vents and service stairwells. They may be trapped, but we should assume they will know through which door we’re coming.  I assume there would be at least two or three entrances. They would split their forces not knowing through which we will come if they went blind. “ Aeos explained as soon as Bright waved the coast clear and gave the squad a chance to regroup and  do a standard check on their weapons.

“Sure, knock out the security cams…no problem. Push of a button  right?” Jana muttered.

Aeos risked smiling inside her helmet. She respected the civilian to remain calm, even spunky under pressurized conditions.

“And I’m sure you have magic fingers, Ma’am”  Lukas said with charming innocence and sincerity.

“Ae does have a point.” Bright muttered.

“I’d need to find a electronic access point at least.” Jana said.

“That’s if Havock and Bright approves going through with this.”  Abalar muttered. The squad turned to Havock and Bright expectantly and waited.

Havock looked at Brightstar. Their objective was to lock down the upper level, and now they were there, staring at an objective that they didn't have any obvious way out of. In almost every scenario, she saw them trapped and dead.

"We find the lady a data terminal, and fast."

Brightstar nodded and walked in pace with Havock with the others following. They slowed at each doorway searching for a terminal or a fight. It was debatable if they would shut down the security feeds before or after they killed all the personnel on the level.

The lights flickered which only perpetuated the madness of what they were doing. Now they had to walk in a group with flickering lights and an entire station converging on their location. That was why they needed to hack the security systems. If they had to be blind in this fight, then Blanchard damn sure was going to be blind too.

"Ayme." Havock looked expectantly at Brightstar but only got a confused cocked head. She blinked and turned to her other arm and was shocked to slowly realize the voice was owned by Aeos. "The base, there are things you need to know."

"Everything was in the dossier Ae, relax. Other than being here a handful of years ago, what has you all tense...you never get tense. Actually now that I realize that I'm getting kinda nervous. What is it you need to tell me?"

The long pause that followed only served to increase Havock's anxiety. She could count the number of times her older sister actually used her first name on one hand, and none of them were pleasant conversations. Yet every time in the past Aeos was more angry, instead this time she seemed almost scared. Frankly for Aeos to exude any emotion probably meant someone was going to get the brunt of her ire, today Havock could only hope those would be members of Blanchard.

“Found one.” Jana whispered from the entry way to a small office. The room probably belonged to some high level analyst. It was bigger than most single suites with a desk in the center and several chairs around the room for meetings, most likely. The most important thing was the terminal that sat ready and waiting on the desk.

Havock grabbed the shoulder of the suddenly eager tech and did a quick sweep of the room. Standing in the far corner was a man searching for something with a distracted look on his face. The company commander raised her rifle and was about to bark a command at him when he interrupted her.

“Oh good.” He held up a cup, half filled with caf. “Do you know if they switched to decaf in the lounge? I’ve been looking everywhere for another caf machine and just can’t seem to find one.” He shook his head. “Its just not the same yanno.”

Havock blinked and looked over at Brightstar who was already lowering her weapon. “I don’t think they changed it, but maybe you should ask someone else.”

“Hmmhmm.” He nodded and took another sip, then raised his glass as a sign of thanks. “I’ll do just that.” As he walked down the corridor past all the stormtroopers he just kept muttering to himself about the quality of caf.

“Oooooookay?”

Havock shrugged. “Let’s go Jana.”

She nodded and bounced behind the terminal. Soon the security holos would be out and they could move more freely. Although Havock had to wonder where their opposition was, with the exception of the merc who had an issue with his caf. The whole thing just gave her a bad feeling.

OOC:
Okay Jesters, Jana is hacking the computer, we need to set up defenses so that she can finish that task. Assume someone knows we are there and that we will have company before she finishes. Once she is done we will be scouting the upper levels to see what we have found.

He had been in situations like this before, it was either kill or be killed, he chose the first of the two. He slid his hand to his pistol, withdrew it and decided to go do some scouting. Walking over to the door he opened it slowly then peeking out and around in the corridor he noticed that it was a two way corridor. This would mean that Jester squad could hunker down behind cover of the desks and various executive furniture in the room.

Now that they had found Jana a terminal to work on Lukas looked around the room, it was a medium sized room with desks, chairs, and a few vases filled with flowers for decoration and random pictures of artwork. The squad hadn't met opposition for awhile so it was likely, they knew were Jester was or they were blind and couldn't spot a needle in broad daylight. Lukas could feel the tension in the air from the rest of the squad but didn't say anything because they were uneasy.

Lukas proceeded, with the help of THX and the ARC troopers attached to the squad they flipped over the furniture, overturned a few tables, and maximized cover on Jana with what they had available. On the way into the small office there was another office directly across from it that looked vacant, Lukas let Bright know that he was going to check it out. He walked out into the hall slowly making sure that no one was coming and proceeded to go into the other abandoned office.

It looked exactly like the other one but there was no computer, no pictures, and really dusty. The furniture was covered by grey sheets that looked very old. It looked like no one had occupied this office in years. The furniture would be good and used for cover, the only problem would be moving the furniture without making any noise. That or they could just have half the squad in one room and half in the other that way Jester wouldn't be over run so easy, the enemy would probably just assume they were all in one room with Jana.

Lukas took one last look around the room and noticed that it had windows covered with retractable blinds, this means they could use it to there advantage and ambush anyone that came by. He then walked back into the room with the rest of Jester and told Bright and Havock what he had found. Meanwhile, Jana kept swiftly typing away at the console, not knowing how much time they had left so Lukas took up behind a desk at the end of the corridor out in the hallway, his sniper rifle trained at the other end of the hallway since his back was to a dead end he couldn't get flanked.

"Anyone that tries to get down this corridor will be struck down Bright, I will hold them off and stall you guys time if anyone comes. If I get over run I can get to the office behind me for retreat", Lukas spoke into his headset.

"Got it!" Jana stepped back to admire the terminal screen that now blinked confirmation that the security systems were down.

"Coast is clear boss." Lukas spoke from his position near the entrance to the office.

Brightstar walked over to Havock and pulled her aside, both of them removed their helmets for air. They both had a dullness to their eyes that came from exhaustion, yet neither of them would let that squash their determination to see the job through.

Now that they had locked down the upper levels and could move without alerting the security teams, the command officers of Blanchard would be trapped just waiting for a regrouped Phoenix company to come in and end this properly. Something still unsettled Havock, the whole thing seemed just a tad too easy. This wasn't a fly-by-night operation. Blanchard was a merc organization that had directly and aggressively attacked the Vast Empire in the past. They had rebuilt each brick of their base with a mortar of vengeance. They wanted blood, and yet they seemed barely interested in Phoenix's invasion of their privacy.

"What's our next move?"

"You are the squad leader for now Rain, you tell me."

The red head rolled her eyes and looked away slightly amused. "You are such a pain in the ass sometimes aren't you?"

"I feel like that comment deserves a demotion Sergeant." Havock smirked.

Brightstar shook her head and seemed to genuinely appreciate the brevity in their current situation. "We need to get out of here before they find us and surround us, but I feel like going back the way we came would be a bad idea." She pulled out her data pad and called up the map. "If we head around this section here, we can double back and reach our vent back to the other levels. From there we can get out and set up a defensive line."

"See now, was that really so hard?" Havock gave her friend a pat on the shoulder and watched as she delivered the orders to the rest of the squad.

One of the ARC troopers was standing next to Jana along with the newest member of Jester, Meno "DSC912" Amadeus. The private had kept quiet for most of their journey and Havock honestly knew very little about him. She was just glad he had managed to stay out of trouble and not be injured. Far too many recruits took a nasty blaster burn on their first trip out, if not worse.

Amadeus tapped the ARC troopers shoulder and pointed at the terminal screen. Jana was distracted by Brightstar's speech and had to similarly be tapped on the shoulder.

"Sergeant..." Jana muttered her eyes narrowing on the screen. "We have a problem...a really, really big problem."

Havock was moving before Brightstar could respond, her eyes fell on the read out that was now flashing red with the words Auxiliary Security Measures Engaged. ID badges must be presented or extreme measures are authorized to be used.

"Ooooookay, this sounds bad. Bright?"

"Let's move, now. If we are found here we are trapped, we need to reach that vent."

Jesters all fell into place, moving down the halls in roughly the same formation they used before. Havock, Brightstar and Aeos were in the front with the ARC troopers protecting their rear. They followed the squad leaders same plan, to continue down the cooridor and round the corner then double back down the next hallway. They would still end up at the vent, Havock had to hope it was enough of a distraction with the security holos out for them to make it.

They made it around the first corner with no resistance, the only thing out of place were some silent alarms that must have been going off, lights near the top of the walls blinked an alternating red and green. They turned for the last time and should have been looking at the room with the vent only a few dozen meters away. Instead the three women in front skidded to a halt. Jana was taken off guard and slammed into Havock's back.

In front of them sat three droids. They were a manufacture Havock had never seen. They stood towering over them at least three meters in height, and a solid meter or more in girth. They looked squeezed in the corridor standing together. A triad of perfect death.

The oval heads slowly clicked to an upright position and green lights lit up in their eye sockets. A scanning red bar was located in their chestplate, for what purpose Havock could only imagine would be detrimental to her survival. The arms raised to reveal what looked like a twin pair of E-webs and locked into place.

"Bright."

"Yea Hav?"

"Run."

OOC:
Danger Will Robinson Danger! War Bots, they gonna getcha. So we need to defend ourself against these baddies, and you better believe security teams are on their way. Consider the other way around blocked as well. You are going to have to fight these things. And its going to suck, these are not easy targets. Umm it was nice knowing ya'll, good luck?

The three android bots were hulking with solid plated armor and were menacing looking but looked like they could barely fit in the corridor. Although they were blocking the only path that Jester could go through, besides going back the way they came which wasn't exactly the best option. With Lukas being in the rear anyways he could hear footsteps coming.

"Looks like we are going to have company before our friends get here!", Lukas said diving to the ground, firing off some rounds, downing some merc patrols heading there way. The two ARC troopers with him along with THX began laying down covering fire to the rear of the squad holding the incoming mercs at bay. Meanwhile it was Lukas, Havock, Jana, and Bright looking at the walking fortresses coming through them.

Lukas remembered seeing these kind of droids on a Wraith mission he had done a long time ago. "Since the armor is so thick we have to hit them on the inside when they open up there sensor slots", Lukas spoke into the comm piece to Hav and Bright. To give the rest of the squad time, Lukas took one small sphere from his pouch and threw it as hard as he could at the droid infront of the three. It slammed into its hulking chest and exploded into a swirl of instant smoke, at this opportunity Lukas ran up and slid down through between the front droid's leg and fired his sniper rifle and close range right through one of its knee caps and it went down, lucky shot Lukas thought to himself.

However he didn't have very much time to think about that because as soon as the one in front went down, the other two droids opened up him as he dove into nearby room, the  wall lining and door were pocked with blaster marks. Lukas had a feeling that the droids were pissed and were coming after him so he took up cover behind one of the few desks in the room.

"Lukas! The droids are coming after you....whatever you did, you pissed them off bad!", Hav hollered into the comm piece. With that being said Lukas decided to not stick around in the room so he got up ran straight into a window, shattering it as he dove through it and back out into the hall where the battle was going on. Havock and Bright were firing at the droids while Jana was hiding and staying in cover behind what little there was.

Therex had already fired several rounds down the hallway at the oncoming mercs. However, at this distance his typical shots were useless. And he was running low on lead slugs. Behind him, he heard the groan of metal on metal. He turned just in time to watch one of the droids drop down on one knee. While it tried to recover the other two turned the other direction. It was at this point he noticed that Lukas wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Looking down at his ammo, he remembered that he had some explosive slugs. However, they wouldn't be enough to punch through the thick armor. Loading a full clip into his shotgun, Therex braced himself against the wall. Taking a quick breath, he ran down the hallway towards the droid that was slowly standing, using the wall to support itself. Jumping up, Therex found a small opening in the armor, a joint that had been blown open by the thermal detonator. Lowering his weapon, Therex fired two quick shots through the gap.

The droid lurched forward, stopped, and toppled over with a loud bang. One down, two more to go. With the loss of their comrade, one of the remaining droids turned away from Lukas. Panicking, Therex threw himself behind the hulk of the downed droid, using their thick armor against them. Peeking over the top, Therex noticed that one of the E-Webs on the droid he was hiding behind, looked to still be operational.

Reaching around, Therex found the hole he had fired into, and prayed that he hadn't destroyed what he was looking for. When he reached around, his hands struck a hardened metal object. Looking in, Therex saw that the power cell was still intact. He pulled out his knife and started to try to wriggle the box free. Once you got inside the droid, the armor wasn't that thick. The box eventually slid free.

Checking the squad, he saw that on of the droids almost seemed to be slowing under the constant fire. It's armor was pockmarked and dented countless times, yet they still couldn't punch through. Grabbing a handful of cords from inside the droid, he began to jury-rig the power cell into the E-Web. Once it was set up, Therex pulled the massive gun around and pointed it at the weakened droid. Attaching the wire to the power cell to complete the circuit, he ducked down lower.

The E-Web opened up, firing wildly. Because the servos no longer had power, Therex had to constantly re-adjust the aim of the gun. Slowly but surely, the repetitive shots began to puncture the armor. Moving one of it's E-Webs toward Therex, it began to spray it's dead companion with laser bolts. Not sure what to do, Therex remained behind the droid's dead body, until slowly, the firing quieted down. Peeking tentatively over his barricade, Therex saw that the other droid started to finally buckle as it's armor caved in under fire.

Jumping up, Therex threw his arms up in excitement. His victory was short-lived. Because he was using an impromptu power system for the gun, it was rather unstable. He didn't need his cybernetic eye to tell him that the pack was heating up quickly. Flailing madly, he ran back towards the squad, yelling, "Get down, now!" The explosion that ensued was quick and violent. After the debris stopped flying around, Therex looked back up the hall. The droid he had been hiding behind was completely gone, and the remaining one had taken quite a bit of damage. Switching on his com he called out, "Lukas, you all right? Lukas?"

Swearing, Therex ran past the temporarily stunned droid and found Lukas slumped against a wall. He had no visible wounds, but he was out cold. Checking his vital signs, Therex let out a sigh of relief. Lukas was alive, probably just thrown against the wall by the blast. Switching his com on again, Therex saidto Bright, "We need to end this quickly. Lukas might be hurt, and we still have that droid between you and us."

In reply, Therex could hear several laser blasts as the squad tried to take out the last droid. While he waited, Therex did a once over on Lukas. He had no broken bones, and his skull was still intact.

Maybe I should have stayed in medical school.

Bright looked around her. To say that all hell had broken loose was an understatement. Knowing that she couldn't retreat back down the hallway from which they had come, and their way forward blocked by the two remaining  battle droids, she felt her heart begin to race. Strangely enough her thoughts remained calm. I need to take those things out. Who has the most mechanical experience? She asked herself as she opened fire on the  droid in front of her.  Me, Havock, Jana.

She chanced a glance over at the two of them. I don't have enough experience taking down battle droids nor would I know where to begin. Havock could probably do it, but I don't want to give her an excuse to get herself killed either. Jana is a civilian, I can't put her in that kind of danger. Unless we can shut it down remotely.

She stopped firing and opened her squad channel up. “Abalar find a way to get to Lukas and Therex. Therex when she gets to you get your ass over here.” She started, “Ae, coordinate with Meyers and Maroni to draw that thing's fire away from us. Havock and I are going to find Jana a terminal to shut it down. Therex will be our cover. DSC you're with Aeos and the ARC troopers.”

Hoping she knew what she was doing, Bright turned and nodded to Havock indicating that she was ready. Therex slammed against the wall next to her, cursing and vowing all sorts of disasters upon those that created the hulking metal droid before them. Bright tried not to smile as the four of them moved away from the rest of the squad to a terminal not too far from them.

“Jana, Havock, do something, I don't care what, but shut that fraking thing down.” Bright ordered and turned to provide cover fire against the oncoming enemy mercenaries.

She knew they were there, it was just a matter of time before they finally caught up to them. Bright growled and kept her focus squarely on getting out of the mess they were in. Later she would complain about how badly she wanted to murder whoever was in charge of this...whatever it was.

Havock rolled into a doorway, cursing at several shots that sent drywall dust into her eyes. She wasn't sure when she lost her helmet. She had pinned it down to after they saw the battle droids and before she'd gotten herself into this mess. Jana screamed and then flew into Havock's lap.

"Oof, aren't we suddenly friendly?"

The technician turned captive, turned back to a technician for the Vast Empire frowned with a look of utter confusion in her eyes. "We are going to die and you are flirting? What is wrong with you?"

Havock held a finger up to Jana's face. "Not flirting, just making conversation." The company commander reached up and felt for the door controls. She managed to push them seconds before a bolt fried the controls and singed her hand through the glove. "Frak."

Havock rolled with her arm clenching Jana into the room and pushed the tech up to her feet in the direction of a remote terminal. She stayed on her knee swallowing the curses in her throat as she checked her hand. Jana gave her a few concerned glances then got to work.

Therex flew through the door being jerked into the room by Brightstar. The trooper sprawled to the floor next to Havock. "Hey Rexy, bad day?"

The Chiss man raised his head slightly, she didn't need him to remove the helmet to know he loathed the nickname.

"Havock, one is diverting to our location."

"Right."

The blond jumped to her feet and grabbed a bar that was once attached to some piping in the room. She still had to wince when she used her burnt hand. "Bright, tell me when the bastard coming for them is right by the door. Or whichever one is first and close. I need to get it to hold still and keep those damn guns off us."

As the battle droid came past and Havock jammed the metal rod into the gears and listened to the whine caused by the gears.

"Ayme, that's not going to hold it for long." Brightstar was right, the giant droid was already twisting around towards their position. It was fighting for its existence and ready to blow them apart to make sure it survived.

"Then we better work fast huh."

Bright looked back at Havock quickly. Concern for her friend filled her mind, but she pushed it aside knowing that she needed to focus on the still twisting hulk of gears, motors and metal plating in front of her. She swallowed hard and knew exactly where she was standing, right between it and those of her squad that were with her. In reality Therex was the only true Jester besides her that was in the room. Havock was the company commander and the XO of the army, more importantly she was Bright's friend. Jana was only a civilian technician who'd found herself caught up in this whole mess once again.

The grip on her weapon tightened and she chanced another look behind her. Jana was working furiously at the terminal not even looking up when the whine of the gears from the battle droid became louder. Bright's eyes snapped back to the problem. If I ever get out of this, I'm going to take a nice long vacation, far far away from here and out of communication with any of the VE high command. She thought bringing her E-11 rifle up to bear on the mechanical monstrosity before her.

“Not to sound urgent or anything, but any time would be great, Jana.” Bright said. Suddenly her helmet was too confining, her armor felt like it was constricting across her chest. A blossom of true fear enveloped her. What was going to happen to her squad? What if she couldn't get them out of this?

The droid was fully turned to face them now, it's expressionless face grill, and red photoreceptors glared down at her as it raised its weapon modified arms.  She bared her teeth and started blasting it with her rifle in a final defiance of what seemed to be her fate. If she was going to die here today she was going to do it fighting. She watched, almost in slow motion, as the droid's E-Web guns powered up and pointed in her direction.

Bright inhaled deeply and closed her eyes waiting for the inevitable blast that would send her descending into the hell she knew she would be heading for. A yell filled the air behind her, and Bright was sure that it was the end for her.  But that burning blast didn't come. Holding her breath, the Jester SL slowly opened her eyes. The droid was there, but all power that it had displayed moments earlier, now seemed to have abandoned it.

Her breath left her in a rush and she stumbled backward. Shaking slightly she pulled her helmet from her head and took a deep quivering breath. Looking behind her she could see Jana grinning in triumph. Bright smiled shakily at Havock. “Remind me to give her my first born if I live long enough to have children.” She said jokingly.

“The girl's got skills.” Therex's voice uttered appreciatively. “And we still have problems, Boss.”

Bright nodded and looked back out the door. “Jana did you manage to shut the other one down as well?” Bright asked, turning to face the other woman.

Jana nodded, her triumphant grin still gracing her features. Bright smiled and nodded before she placed her helmet back on. The moment she did, her com channel crackled. “Bright, We're cut off from you.” An all too familiar voice said in her ears. It sounded strained and extremely irritated, but blessedly alive.

“Aeos, hang on and we'll get back to you and cover--”

Aeos cut her off, “Just go, Bright, we'll catch up.” Bright stiffened. She couldn't say why, but she didn't believe Aeos. “Rain, did you copy?” She asked. Maybe it was just her current mood, but Bright thought she heard a plea in the other woman's voice. “We'll catch up, you're the one whose going to have the problems, I have the rest of the squad. We'll be fine.”

Bright looked over at Havock. It was no secret to her that her and Ae were sisters. Besides that, Bright had always considered Aeos a friend despite the latter's dislike for personal bonds. Suddenly she was thankful for the faceplate of her helmet, otherwise Havock would surly do something that neither she or Aeos would approve of. “Copy.” Bright said through numb lips. She was surprised that she sounded so calm and in control. “We'll be waiting for you and tell Abalar to be prepared to treat a burn. Havock went and got her self singed.”

“I'll tell her. See ya in a bit. Aeos out.”

The silence coming from the other end of her com device was deafening. Not for the first time on this mission, Bright felt the ice cold fist of fear grip her heart. Telling herself that Aeos would get herself and the others out of the situation they were in, Bright turned to Havock and Jana, Therex had posted himself at the door. She dreaded this next part, but she had to do it.

“We've been cut off from the others. Ae, has a plan to get passed them and to catch up with us, but she doesn't feel like waiting around for us to come up with a plan out of here.” She still sounded in control, and inwardly she was wondering when she'd gained that ability. “We'll clear the rest of the way out of this dunghole and set up an escape rout while we're at it.”

Bright watched Havock's eyes narrow, but she seemed to -- at least for now -- believe that Aeos would actually catch up with them. “Go figure. She's the one with all the fire power.” Havock muttered. “Well what are we waiting for?”

Bright nodded and turned to Therex. “Slow and steady wins the race. You take point, I have the rear.” She said. Somewhere in the back of her mind Bright knew that this day was not going to end well, and was sure that her heart would be broken by the time she returned to Tadath.

OOC:
Woot! Look 1019 words. Take that writer's block. Anyway, Jester is seperated. Havock, Bright, Jana and Therex are now making their way forward to look for a way out and will most definitely run into some trouble. The rest of Jester is cut off from those four and depending on whether or not one of you other's posts (Not you Jake) you getting out of that situation you will remain cut off.

Opening his eyes Lukas took his hand and pressed it up against the back of his head and noticed he had been propped up against an overturned table an wondered how he had gotten there. The last thing he had remembered doing was taking down the droid carefully, diving off into an office an dispatching a few soldiers before hearing a loud explosion before being thrown up against a wall and had obviously blacked out. He quickly analyzed the rest of the situation so far and had caught the fact that the squad was no where to be seen. Lukas took his pistol out of his holster and did a quick check over to make sure all of his equipment worked and then looked out of the shattered window to see that all the droids were in a heaping pile of scrap in the hallway but there were sirens going off and mass amounts of soldiers pouring in from over the lifeless droid.

He took out one of the many small sphere's he had in his pouch and hurled it towards the opposing wall that the mercenaries were coming towards him as it exploded, he leap effortlessly over the broken frame and headed in the opposite direction because it was obvious he couldn't go that way. Lukas turned down into another corridor as another one dead ended and ran into a few mercenaries, catching them off guard he shot them both and picked up one of the headsets off of them to listen to the comm chatter:

"Men are being sent down to sector delta because the droids went down, don't know how many intruders there are but we are cut off because of the droids blocking most of our path so we have to send the troops the other way around, do you copy Alpha 1205?"

With that Lukas threw away the headset into the wall and began sprinting down the corridor while speaking into his headset:

"Bright, this is Lukas I am sure you already know this but you have got a large number of troops heading your way, we blocked them for the time being because the droids they sent after us are blocking there direct route to us so in the mean time I am going to catch up to you guys when I get the chance"

Shortly after ending his comm chat with his squad leader he ran into a semi large group of mercs. Lukas dove down to the floor and fired off some pistol rounds, catching two of the mercs in the chest as they returned fire, blaster bolts whizzed past his face. He rolled towards the wall and shot two more. He got up and then ran towards the wall, kicked off it, and caught one more merc trying to bring up his rifle to the face bringing him down. There was shouting behind him as more mercenaries ran around the corner just to see Lukas's shadowed figure disappear down another corridor. This corridor was different though because there were dead bodies strewn about and it was not from him, someone else had been through here and it must have been the rest of Jester. Blaster marks scorched the walls, bodies were cleanly executed an some were even blown up by grenades, other than that they had to be around somewhere close by.

He came to a split corridor that went left an right so he looked down both ways and noticed there had been a fight on both sides so he took a chance and went left, hearing screaming and shouting at the end so he put his back to the wall once getting to the end and peaked around the corner to see Bright's armor and the rest of the squad perched behind what little cover they could find.

"Bright, I am on your six and covering your flank,so anything that tries coming down this corridor won't make it down alive if I can help it", he grinned behind his helmet, took out his sniper rifle and got in the prone position on one knee and set his sights down at the opposite end of the corridor behind an old metal desk he dragged out from an old office near by.

Sure enough the mercs had finally caught up to him and began to funnel in down the very same corridor he was protecting, so Lukas took aim and began downing the mercs quickly one by one as they began to try and advance on him.

Therex was moving quickly up the hallway, leading what remained of Jester squad out of the base. As they turned a corner, alarms started blaring, the shrieking noise hurting Therex's ears. Obviously they weren't getting out easily. From down the hallway, he heard sniper fire. Lukas was having fun, that was for sure. Therex raised his shotgun, and approached the end of the hallway slowly. Peeking around the corner, he saw several mercs charging towards them. Signalling to the rest of the squad, he slipped behind a support pillar and waited. When the first merc cleared the corner, the squad opened fire, mowing down their surprised targets in no time. After the chaos calmed Bright took point and checked the corner. Giving the all clear, she had Therex take point again.

"We need to pick up the pace," Bright commented. Nodding in approval, Therex double-timed it down the hallway. He realized his error a little too late. As he rounded the corner, a large blunt object came up and met Therex in the face. While on the floor, Therex noticed that the tree had run into, was actually the arm of one of the mercs. Standing behind him, was several more mercs, with their guns trained on him. Mere seconds later, Bright came around the corner and started firing over Therex's head. However, this group was better prepared than the last. One of the mercs had a slug thrower. His shot caught Bright in the shoulder and threw her onto the floor. Havock and Jana were at the taking cover further down the hall waiting for an opening.

Slowly, Therex's vision started to blur, and he began to drift. When he opened his eyes again, he was no longer in control. Reaching behind himself, Therex slid a small cylinder out of a discreet holster. Hitting a release on the side it extended to it's full length and the ends surged with energy. Swinging the electrostaff, Therex caught the large merc who had knocked him to the floor, between the legs. While he fell to the floor, Therex used the upward force of his swing and jumped up, catching another merc in the face. The first merc was trying to stand, so Therex brought the back end of the staff up to the merc' chin, and shoved him back down, vaulting over the merc with the staff jammed into his throat. Just before landing, Therex heard a crack, as the merc's neck snapped under the extreme pressure.

Joining him, Havock and Jana started firing down the hallway, taking out the remaining mercs. Bright recovered and checked her shoulder. The bullet had dented the armor, but it didn't appear to have penetrated. Standing, she patted Therex's shoulder.

"That was-" she started. Therex grabbed her wrist and spun himself around facing Bright. However he was slowly coming out of his haze, so his grip slackened. The next thing Therex felt, was a feeling of floating. Turning, he noticed a large flat object coming up to meet him. Too late, he realized that Bright had picked him up and threw him down. When he landed, Therex's head came down pretty hard and cracked against the permacrete floor.

"What the heck was that all about?" Bright asked. Therex groaned and sat up.

"I was just about ask you the same thing." he said, grunting with effort, trying to stand. Looking around the hallway, he reached for his electrostaff. Bright slammed a boot down on his hand, stopping his progress.

"You gonna go crazy on us again?" she asked, reaching for her sidearm. Nodding slowly, Therex was fighting the urge to scream. His hand was throbbing two beats faster than his head. Reluctantly, Bright lifted her boot up and let him go. Grabbing his staff, Therex collapsed it back down and slid it into the holster.

Motioning down the hallway with a sweeping motion, Therex looked back at the rest of his squad.

  "Shall we?"
