Welcome to the Vast Empire Naval Academy, Crewman Furthing. Happy to know you're alive.  My name is Warrant Officer 2nd Class Wyl Trykon, and I'll be your Training Officer (TO) while you go through the Academy's Orientation program. I'll be around to help get you acclimated to life in the Vast Empire (a process we call, "Basic Training"), the most important part of which is learning how to role-play as an Imperial starfighter pilot in an ongoing, collaboratively-written story (a set of skills which is taught in something we call, "Flight School"). With your first post here on the Naval Academy board, you've completed Imperial Initiation (well done) and are hereby clear to begin Flight School, which will prepare you for daily life as a pilot in a VE squadron. Your next step should be to visit the VE Wiki page for Flight School, found here, and begin working on Chapter 1: Character Development by clicking the appropriate link. When you finish the assignment, post your work here (bio and ID line), so I can review it, and we'll proceed from there. Tattoos: None Character’s Background Virgil Furthing was born on Brentaal to Vin and Jacent Furthing. A few years later, his brother Jac was born, but didn't live past his first year. After that, his parents hit financial turmoil and the stress on their marriage eventually led to his mother abandoning them when Virgil was five.
Virgil was left to be raised by his bitter and unforgiving father. Him and his father found it hard to get along and they grew up distanced from each other. Unprepared to raise a son on his own, his father tried to teach Virgil all he knew and would often teach him cynical lessons about the world. Being a trader, his father taught him how to pilot a ship and often brought him along on trading deals, where he learned all about trading and negotiations.
Despite his childhood, Virgil grew up to be self reliant and sensible. He left home when he was eighteen in order to pursue his education in the medical field. He attended a local university but dropped out after a few years there. Unsure of where to go next in life, he decided to make use of his piloting skills and enlisted in the Vast Empire Navy. Personality Furthing is smart and quick witted although he may not make the best decisions, in which case he'll attribute it to his infamous bad luck. Growing up underneath his cynical father, he's learned to be wary of strangers and is hesitant in trusting others initially. He's always alert and ready to fight. Despite this, he doesn't handle stress very well and hates to be frustrated, an attribute that will quickly change his normally cool demeanor sour. In stressful situations, he has to focus to maintain control and can usually do so, so long as his luck holds out. He generally tries to avoid these type of situations. Physical Description Furthing has a lean but muscular figure and usually wears jeans, shirt and a jacket when not on duty. He never bothers to do anything with his hair except to cut it occasionally and often forgets to shave. Although he remains alert and vigil for the most part, he is often found slouching and leaning against anything he can find, rather than standing straight or sitting properly. He is a past smoker and although he claims to have quit, he has trouble staying away from deathsticks when stressed.

Bio and ID line look good, Crewman. One note: Raptor is a part of Defiance Wing, but it's a minor point. You're clear to move on to Chapter 2 of Flight School. Keep up the good work!

So here's me report for part three of my training:
I started a topic on the naval academy introducing myself to begin training, and I've posted once on the story Overwhelming Odds. I haven't been on IRC yet, but I'll make it a point to do so in the near future.
So that's all I've done so far this week. I'll work on doing more next week.
