I will be running my first 5K (2.5 mile) race tomorrow morning and I think I will be the only blind/visually impaired runner to run this specific race as it is only in its 3rd year, so not as popular as say Ottawa Race Weekend (which you can compare to say..the Boston Marathon in popularity)

How well do you think I'll do? What do you think my time will be? My guide runner and I think it will takes us a little over half an hour, under 40 minutes to complete it. With a 8- 7 1/2 minute pace and with intervals of 5 min. run, 1 min. walk do you think we will be able to achieve our goal?

I absolutely think you can achieve your goal; I ran a 26 minute 5k in okay fitness, but you are likely more fit than I am. Even being visually impaired, you should definitely be able to fulfill your goal. Good luck!

Will let you guys know what my time was once I...eventually...get back home tomorrow :P and I wonder if it is simply a coincidence but my guide ad I's bib numbers are almost identical, hers precedes mine by 1. my bib # is 1481 and hers is 1480 hmm...

Maybe because you registered at the same time?

Indeed we do! And yes, we registered about 2 mins apart from one another.

The race went rather well, I experienced some stiffness in my shoulders and got a stitch in my side at one point, but we finished faster than we initially thought we would. And so without further adieu...

Ladies and gents, my official time was 34.04! Well...We had to rely on the Garmin my guide was using since the race clock got stuck at 28.28...But it is still much better than we thought we would do. As well, I wasn't the last one to finish so I'm not the slowest runner there is!

The people were nice and the pancake breakfast was awesome....Was for a very good cause and I wish  the men good luck in their recovery.

The race  I ran was for a local establishment - you could almost call it a rehab. It is a facility for men who have abused drugs and alcohol in the past and couldn't get out of the mess they were in no matter how hard they tried, so the place is in a rural setting to help them stay away from city life and essentially their pasts and give them time to focus on themselves. The race specifically though was for their running program, they want the guys to get into running as opposed to getting back into drinking, drugs and the like. A few of the residents ran with us and they were very nice, there was one water station which we didn't need to stop at because we had our own water and there were some ladies who were cheering us on and got creative when it came to making noise by using an empty water bottle  and bucket, putting rocks in there and shaking them

Good job finishing. I doubt I would have even participated. What race did you do anyway? I'm just curious as to the name of it, e.g. the Ottawa Race or the Boston Marathon.

The organization does have a Newsletter and their sponsor (Investors Group) might be doing their part as well, as for us we'll stick to word-of-mouth and we'll see how many people we get to join the RR gang.
