Level 1: Electrical Systems
Story 1: Basic Electronics/Wiring
Jenerin was sitting in class, going over some schematics while the teacher rambled on. The door opened and he looked up to see an officer walk in and whisper something into the teacher’s ear before leaving. A look of concern spread across the teachers face.
"We have a situation. Four AT-ST's were out scouting when they were attacked by the locals. Three are on their way back and crews are headed out to retrieve the fourth. According to reports the three are in bad shape and in need of repairs. We are the closest base so they are coming here for repairs. Head for Bay 7 and await instructions. Time for a pop quiz.”
The class rose from their chairs and shuffled out the door. As they headed for the receiving bay, Jenerin thought to himself, “They always put us rookies on the job.” The class ran through the door and came out in the receiving bay, and noticed that three AT-ST’s were entering through the rear. The first to enter was in the best condition, only some slight damage in the cockpit. The second had some damage done to the legs support systems, and the weapons were bent out of repair. They would have to replace both forward cannons. The third was in the worst condition possible, with severe damage to the leg hydraulics, and some major dents in the cockpit.
When they were all in the bay, they were all assigned a job on a specific walker. Jenerin and his partner Merety were assigned to the third walker. They approached the walker and saw the full extent of the damage. They would definitely have to replace quite a bit of the walker. The hydraulics had been punctured and were leaking fluid. The windows were darker than usual which meant that the console and maybe some other electronics had shorted out. The top hatch opened and a man stumbled out with great difficulty.
“We need a medic over here,” Jenerin shouted.
Some medics who were on standby ran in and helped the man down and rushed him off. Jenerin hurried up the ladder and peeked in the cockpit. He quickly pulled back at the stench and thick smoke that had rolled out of the hatch. He yelled down to his partner, “Help me out here. Oh yeah, bring some rebreathers.” He sat on the top, and shouted down to the other techs, “I’m going to need some wire and a new panel on standby. And I need someone to look at those hydraulics.” At about that time Merety had come up the ladder and handed him a mask. He quickly slipped it on and ducked into the cockpit. The other pilot was dead in his chair, clearly burnt from the panel exploding. He poked his head out and looked at Merety and said,” Hey can you help me with a stiff.” They went into the cockpit and eased the man from the chair and lifted him out, into the waiting arms of a medic who was nearby. Jenerin finally got a good look around. The panel would need to be replaced along with the comm. Systems and probably the sensors as well. He went about pulling out wrecked pieces and panels and pulling burned wiring from their sockets. Merety came back with the spare wire and headed back for the panel. Jenerin started putting fresh wiring in and restoring damaged connections. He went to where the panel used to be and started repairing the plugs and digging any corrosion out of the socket. His partner came in with the new panel and helped ease into place as Jenerin plugged in the components.
When they finally got the panel, comms, and sensors restored, Jenerin hooked power back up and started booting systems.
“Everything checks out green. We are done here.”
As Jenerin left the cockpit he noticed that work on the hydraulics was done, and the crews had buffed out most the dents and scratches. He crawled down the ladder and grabbed a towel to wipe his face and clean his hands. He headed to his quarters for a shower and thought to himself,
I love my job, but a vacation couldn’t hurt either.
"See, if we pull out the security measures on your pistol, it should shoot farther and harder. It shouldn't explode as well. I think"
"He's in there, I was gonna shoot him but I was... busy."
