As one of the few Conservative minded folks here I take my fair share of ribbing.  I endure the repeated jabs at my intellegence (IQ of 152 thank you) and my moral fibre.  However, enough is enough.

I am very much tired of it. I find it amazing how many self-professed 'open-minded' people here have gone out of thier way to belittle and gloat over the recent election results.  Yes, he won. Yes, I am not happy. Yes, I will have to deal w/it...and so will we all. 

I have been attacked publicly for stating my beliefs. I have been kicked and banned from IRC by mods who had differing beliefs than I.  I have been called every name in the book and shouted down, even by those who cite their own 'oppression' by others.

It has become so bad that Chesh had to set up a new politics board (w/o mods) and ban political talk from the main. 

Enough is enough. If you are secure enough your beliefs, mine won't harm you. If not, then I see why you react as you do.  I keep the vast majority of my beliefs silent due to the overwhelmingly intolerant nature of this place.  Yes, it is intolerant.

  I'm qute sure I will recieve a note or two on this, or have it deleted in its entirety.  I have talked to others here who feel the same as I, and we are not happy.

We are in the midst of a Naval competition. Part of that competition is recruiting.  How many of those new recruits will stick around after they get shouted down on the IRC.  How many will log back in after they are kicked or banned for stating their opinions. 

How many indeed.

Quite frankly, the behavior you describe is inappropriate, no matter who does it or why.

I'll just say that this, sadly, isn't limited to one political camphere and leave it at that.

Actually I believe this is the perfect place to voice a complaint. He's not berating anyone in particular. He's not attacking anyone. He's asking people to be open minded and not trash people's views just because they are opposite to their own.

It's politics, no one can POSSIBLY be in the right. I personally despise discussing politics for many of the same reasons as Gshlecc. I was all for Tal banning politics in the main VE channel. Nothing good comes from discussing politics, it just drives people apart, rather than the other way around.

I agree that you should be able to express your personal opinon as long as it doesn't aim to intentionally offend someone. I also know from first hand experience, that you can be somewhat heavy handed in your delivery of it, and it can offend people sometimes.

Therefore, I dont believe that in your own experience you were hounded because of your belief, but of how you said it. Then again, I was on leave during this entire thing, and thus I wouldn't truly know. Just food for thought.
