The fighting on Lotaith had died down, and it was now down as far as sporadic raids by groups of bandits which were slowly being picked up by patrols. Phoenix Company had been given a good portion of shore leave to make up for the tour they had just pulled.
Stonefish stood in the cargo bay of the Scythe examining the wreckage of his V-Wing. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as he'd first thought. It only needed a few panels beating out, new gear and a new cannon. He wrote down a list of what he'd need to requisistion or buy to get the fighter operational again and put the datapad in the cockpit. He sighed at the work he'd have to put in and went to the rec room to find himself a cigar, a drink, and maybe a card game. ----------------------- Ramon Stonefish

Argon was already in the rec room, drinking the strongest liquor available.
This did nothing to his simulator skills, and he was flying one handed through the most advanced Navy obstacle course.

The first thing that Raziel did when he was taken off Duty was to have a shower and a shave. Apart from the last two weeks of combat on lolaith the Wraiths hadn't been in direct contact with VE forces for two months. These luxuries that had been kept from him for so long now had to be fully savoured. His shower took him a full hour.
After this he made himself some real cooked food, rations were beginning to get hard on the stomach.
After this he got dressed in some suitably comfortable clothes and went drinking ----------------------- SL/1SGTRaziel/4SQD/1COMP/1BAT/1RGT/Tadath/VEA/ {EW1}

Days ago, security teams had left to go to Tadath. Most of the trainees and workers there had been trying to restore atmosphere and power to the Army HQ complex for weeks now. At first their progress was effective enough but there were just so many hands to deal with all of the problems. They were falling behind and the Corps was in danger of losing it's facilities yet again.
Through a fancy bit of administrative filing, Fury had gotten permission to use captive troops to make work crews from. Intel had spent the past weeks getting information from the prisoners. From this database, he pulled forth a list of beings who were either skilled techs or merely physically tough enough to deal with the rigors of the reconstruction. Many of the those chosen had given up peacefully and were more mercenary than hard-core opposition.
The facilities to hold them in place, two thousand prisoners were boarded onto transports and taken to Tadath. Fury went along for the journey, for more than a few reasons. First and foremost, he wanted to see the devastation and would make an assessment that the Council could use to decide what resources were still needed. Second, travel had been strictly forbidden through VE space until life could start getting back to normal. Nearly every available ship was in use performing transport, repatriation, delivering wounded, moving emergency supplies, or some such effort. The only way he could get to Tadath was this prisoner run.
Hours later, four transports docked at the starport on Tadath. News from the orbital platform showed that it would be weeks before they could dock the Dominion and Scythe safely at it. The surface showed little more promise. Droids and repair craft hovered above the landscape, picking up barely recognizable pieces of buildings or military equipment.
As he journeyed below, more of the same. He walked past a stack of furniture, presumably salvaged from various quarters. Checking in with a desk clerk, he discovered that officer's country hadn't been tackled yet. Taking a couple of glowlights, a repulsorcart, and a laminated map, he headed off towards his old quarters. An hour later, plus a need to check out an environmental suit, he had found his quarters. The fighting in this area had been pretty bad. Only recently had gravity been restored to this sector and objects lay strewn about. It took a couple of blasts from his sidearm to get his door to cycle open. That in itself was good news. Inside, while quite messy, all of his personal items were present. Many things were broken and would need to be thrown out, but at least that choice had been left for him to make. Some quarters were literally ravaged, a few had been chosen as makeshift latrines or field hospitals by one side or the other. Apparently it had been a unpleasant piece of business fighting for this rock.
Fury kicked open his uncooperative storage area and pulled out a large spacer's chest. Inside was the armor that had once been given him by Threeof4. It needed a good polishing, but was still very useful. He put the chest on the repulsorcart, along with a few personal items, plus a couple changes of clothing. He wouldn't be able to bunk in this area, but he at least wanted some comfort while he spent the next few days assessing what the facility needed to be operational again. ----------------------- XO/LTC Fury/VEA/TADATH/VE [PoC][SotE:HC][SotE:VEA][IOC]

Tadath - at least the army section of it - was nearly back in business. Two heavy industrial construction droids borrowed temporarily from Lotaith were in the process of finishing off two of the environmental domes. Below, a combination of prisoner labor and army trainees assigned to work crews had reopened tunnels, reinforced weakened supports, and had done the horrid task of picking up the pieces (both mechanical and biological) that were the ruin of this battlefield.
Above, rework crews had repaired the orbital station ahead of schedule. One hangar and a docking bay was open, allowing the TIE Droid contingent to return via transport. At least they could now call upon some air defenses should it be necessary. Fury would not order the Dominion or Scythe back until necessary. No one knew what orders the HC might churn out and he wanted the ships near the bulk of the Corps.
Most of the wounded had been brought to Tadath once the campaign was over. About the only intact part of the installation had been the hospital district. Both sides had needed the facilities too much to fight over it. Indeed, wounded from both sides had changed hands numerous times as no one wanted to fight over their injured colleagues.
As for administrative duties, Fury had stayed in the rebuild admin complex in Dome Two. A new spacious apartment was part of the renovations - apparently a design change considered before the attacks even occurred. Well, General Talon's loss was his gain. Of course the Prefect had quarters far better somewhere in the maze, but this beat a tiny cubicle way over in the barracks district. Indeed, without any visitors other than the daily status reports dropped on his desk, there was no reason to go to the office other than once or twice a day; so he spent the time in his almost bare apartment. Eventually he would find some furniture and decorative thing, but for now he just enjoyed the uncluttered openness of it all. Even as a child, this was more room than his entire family shared.
Definitely there was something to this officer business. Too bad he had to leave. Since he could basically administer the reconstruction efforts from his datapad, it was decided that he would return to Lotaith on the next transport. Sergeant Major Stormie and the latest additions to Drill Squad would be going along as well. With patrols ongoing, every warm body was needed to make sure any enemy holdouts were quickly captured or taken out. In addition, food and medical supplies needed distributed, as well as the grisly task of body recovery and burial. This would unfortunately be the troops first task as stormtroopers - recovering the dead and making sure no one looted the war torn cities of the planet.
So, whenever the construction droids were finished with Dome Three, they would depart for Lotaith. Until then, he walked the twenty-five paces over to his refrigerator and grabbed another cold beverage, enjoying the feeling of deep pile carpet on his bare feet.
OOC: Rage, thanks to you and all your clan for taking part in this. I hope that those who participated enjoyed themselves. Special thanks to General Matok from bringing the big walkers down to save our butts on Lotaith. ----------------------- XO/LTC Fury/VEA/TADATH/VE [PoC][SotE:HC][SotE:VEA][IOC]

While all of this was happening, D-13 wandered down to Lotaith to pay tribute to the VEA casualties of the war. After that was finished, he wandered down to the rec room and spent time playing VR games. ----------------------- TRP/CPL D-13/3SQD/1PLT/1COMP/1BAT/Lorn IV/VEA

Fury popped the hatch on the hovertank he was riding in and jumped out of the vehicle as it stopped along with the rest of the column. Taking off his helmet, he pulled out a cigarra and lit it, taking a couple of drags before realizing he was drawing a crowd.
This had happened in nearly every stop they'd taken through a village. Since returning from Tadath he had gone for ride-alongs on the heavily armored patrols that brought food, supplies, and security to the more remote areas of Lotaith. Most of the crews of the patrols were his former comrades-in-arms, the homegrown militia units that fought the invaders and remained under arms. Most were from towns wiped out during the fighting, others just could not find any other work in the battle-weary cities. Construction droids were rebuilding homes and factories at a breakneck pace, but it would be at months at the least before any semblance of normalcy returned to the planet.
So, along with a need to keep people fed and out of the control of the roving bands of separatists that had arisen as soon as the campaign had come to a close, the High Council had endorsed the security patrols. Food, blankets, medication, and more importantly, news and security teams that would stay in each town had come via the supply convoys.
Everything had been thought of - except tabacc. Looking at the two dozen or so men and women greedily looking at the burning cigarra in his left hand, Fury called inside the tank and clambered up on top of it again. The gunner passes up two cartons of New Order cigarras. Definitely among the worst brands in the galaxy, it was all he could turn up in massive quantities amongst the stores the enemy had moved in with their invasion force. Breaking open the packs he passed individual packs around until there were none left. Those who had packs, opened them and shared with the others in the crowd. Down the street, the distribution of food and clothing went on almost unnoticed and without difficulty.
Pretty much textbook as far as the PsyOps teams had projected. No angry mobs, no pushing and shoving, and everyone got supplied, thanks to a couple puffs of smoke.
Fury went down to the local market with some of the troops. While there was little in the way of industrial finished goods available, their wages went very far when looking for local handcrafts. It felt a bit wrong, but it was hard to pass up such a good deal on one-of-a-kind woodwork, metalwork, and fabrics. If he tried hard and kept a good eye, he might eventually find enough things to decorate his new apartment on Tadath. ----------------------- XO/LTC Fury/VEA/TADATH/VE [PoC][SotE:HC][SotE:VEA][IOC]
