Story 2: Mine/Countermine

A week after doing her Sabotage and Demolitions exam , she couldn’t wait for the next exam. It was going to be today , at 1400 hours . She had received the message from a messenger.

That had been quite odd, since you didn’t need messengers today with all the technology unless....No , it couldn’t be. But what if it was what she thought it was. She had been given a paper with coordinates, she looked them up on a special search engine and came across a page which described everything in detail.

She would not be doing the exam in the Complex, but in a zone where Civil war was going on. She didn’t like the sound of that , she didn’t know for whom she would be doing a favor, and didn’t really want to get into that type of a mess at present. She got her old Standard Stormtrooper Armor out , and put it on with pride. She would be going into that conflict area with pride , she would not allow herself to go looking ashamed to be a soldier.

Once she had checked that everything was in good working order, she walked out of her quarters and headed towards the hangars. She searched for the one that contained the ship that would be bringing her to that city. She found it a few minutes later , there was a pilot standing beside it, waiting for her to appear.

She walked towards him , saluted and boarded the ship in silence. Members from the Imperial Army didn’t socialize much with Navy members as with the rest of the Army, but she still knew a couple of Pilots, and she drank with them at the bar sometimes.

There was no attempt at a friendly conversation from the pilot, which gave her the chance to think about the exam. Being a Combat Engineer was dangerous business , but not as dangerous as other Specialties. She took her time double-checking her equipment and , when they had finally arrived. She hopped off the ramp before it had lowered itself completely and started to walk towards where she was to be trained.

Gunshots and shouting could be heard in the distance, so she took out her E-11/M and held it close to her chest, ready to fire should she be attacked. In the distance , behind a thick cloud of swirling sand, she could se a man standing tall. She assumed the he was her instructor. Once she was close enough to him , he made a gesture that indicated she should follow him, this she did hesitantly. She did not know the region , and the people here were at war.

After walking for a few hundred metres, he stopped and faced her. “You will be helping no one but yourself today. You already know what to do , I assume.”

She nodded, silent. It had been said in writing that she would have to disarm a mine and arm another one afterwards. She knew how to arm one, it was the disarming part which made her nervous.

“What are you waiting for? You can get started y’know.”

With a single gulp , she took out the necessary equipment and laid it in front of her. For equipment, she had an integrated magnifier into a blast helmet which she had brought along with her , pressure sensors , a mine detector, and she would use what Mother Nature allowed her to use to disarm it.

With the detector in one hand and the equipment bag slung over her shoulder, she set about locating the mine. After ten minutes of careful and painfully slow walking, she located what she had been looking for. The mine was round and about the size of her fist. She looked around her and saw a few small , dry-looking bushes. These will have to do

Leaving her equipment right beside the mine so she knew where it was when she walked back , she jogged towards the bushes and took a few sturdy branches out and brought them back with her. Her plan was to blow the mine up without blowing herself up with it.

She took out a small roll of tape and taped three branches together on each stick. When she was done her work , she had two long sticks with which she could lift the rocks she would put on the mine since it was pressure activated.

She walked back to her equipment , searched for a few big rocks to put on the mine and looked for a safe spot to take cover. Coincidentally , fifty yards away was a big boulder that would give her good cover, but her sticks weren’t long enough to go that far , so she took out some rope, which she always brought with her in missions just in case it would ever be needed , cut and taped the rope two the two ends she was supposed to be holding and put the other ends on the mine. Holding her breath , she put the rocks on top of the end pieces and slowly backed away.

Once she was safely behind the boulder, she was just holding the tips of the pieces of rope but that would be enough. She pulled as hard as she could and a few seconds later, heard a big explosion ahead of her. When she heard nothing else, she slowly looked up over the top of the boulder and saw a cloud of orange dust and sand settling back on the ground. Her plan had worked.

She knew that you didn't have to blow a mine up to disarm it, but that way was easiest. Another way you could disarm a mine, which was not activated by pressure would be to put it into a source of water , so a bucket or a stream or something. The liquid would make the wiring and electronics short-circuit. And so the mine would be deactivated a few seconds after contact with the liwuid.

Satisfied that the first half of her work was done , she went on to the easier part: setting a mine. She walked a small distance away to a small , unused service road and set her pack gently down on one side. She unzipped a pocket , and looked inside to make sure the vehicle mine she had put in there was not activated. She took it out slowly and gently and walked to the middle of the road where she dug a small hole with her hands. She set the mine in the small hole and gingerly lifted her hands away before burying the explosive and walking back to where the instructor said he would be waiting for her.

She spotted him looking at the burnt ground, where the mine she had detonated had been. ‘Nice work , clean and simple, though I found your methods a bit primitive, but you could work on that in later exams and squad missions. Now, show me where you put the other mine, please.”

Dutifully , she brought him to the service road and showed him the spot where you could just make out a fresh patch of turned soil.

“Military vehicle drivers won’t be able to see that from where they are sitting, so that’s acceptable.”

After a few minutes pondering, he finally said “Gunnery Sergeant Luckystar , you have passed.” They both saluted, and Lucky walked back to where the ship would be waiting for her. While she was walking towards the rendezvous point, she breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t wait to get back to the Corps and eat a late dinner.

OOC:
This is very well done, thanks for making the one addition as well. Good work and good luck on the next one.

Level 6:Terrain Management
Story 1: Navigation

Lucky was excited about her next exam. She knew that she would have to walk through some sort of terrain, which she was pretty good at doing. She laid out some clothing for the trek, and made sure to bring plenty of water and some food. She knew she would have to walk back to base , what she didn’t know though , was how she would be evaluated afterwards. The weather was warm this time of year , so she would be wearing khakis and a T-shirt to the exam. That night, she went to bed early so that she would have plenty of energy the next day. She fell asleep wondering what the terrain she would be walking through will look like, and what kind of dangers would be in the area.

She awoke the next day refreshed and ready to tackle the challenges that would be presented to her. Getting dressed, she wondered where they would bring her for the task. She ate a big , filling breakfast before heading to her PC’s office. He would accompany her on the flight to the unknown destination with the instructor.

Twenty minutes later, she knocked on Riqimo’s door, and entered after waiting outside for a moment. Tall , muscular and young, Riqimo didn’t look his age. He looked a few years younger which was good, she guessed. She stood tall in front of his desk and saluted. “At ease” he said after saluting in turn.  He offered her a drink , she wanted one but declined because alcohol would make her thirsty. And she didn’t want to start drinking the bottled water until later, when she was actually trekking back to the Corps.

When they got on the transport vehicle which would bring them to her starting point, they made small talk about life in general. It allowed Doc , as he was commonly called, to know what was going on in her present life with the squad , amongst other things and it also gave her the opportunity to relax before the long walk back. The ride was short but rocky , though Lucky didn’t mind that much. She had watched the weather news for the next few days before coming , it would be sunny for the next four days and the temperatures would be warm during the day , and mild at night. She would get a chance to make the exposed skin tan a little so taht she didn’t look like a ghost as much. When she mentioned this to Doc, he laughed a good-hearted , warm laugh , and at that very moment, the instructor announced their arrival.

Lucky looked out one of the small view ports at the landscape. From what she could see, they were in the middle fo the woods. The spot the pilot had picked had a canopy of trees on top, so it was quite shady. The ramp was lowered , and lucky walked out with her pack on her back. She looked at her surroundings, knowing she was in one of the forests near the Stormtrooper Corps base, but she did not know which one.

“Your task, soldier is to find your way back to the Corps as quickly as possible. In your bag, you have everything you’ll be needing. As you are aware of, you are not allowed to use a compass, which is why I checked your bag before handing it to you on the ride over here. Good luck.”

With that, the ramp rose, and the two men slowly disappeared behind a sheet of metal plating. She waited for the ship to lift off and disappear before starting the long walk back. She looked up to see where the sun was located, and spotted it in the middle of the sky. That meant it was lunchtime.

She started to walk north, and only stopped an hour later to look at the sky , to see if she was on the right track and ate a snack. The weather was getting warmer, so she looked around for a spot where she could rest for a few minutes. Walking around near the trees, she saw a dip in the ground that could be used to her squad’s advantage for cover in battle, should they fight in a terrain like this. She walked over to the depression and sat in ut. It was quite comfortable, she could stay there in full armour for awhile.

After a short while’s rest , she got back up and continued on her long journey back to base. It would take her more than 24 hours to get back to the Corps, but she was up to the challenge. If she also travelled at night, that time may be cut in half. As she walked on , she constantly looked around at her surroundings to see if there was any other spot she could identify as a good hideout for a squad on a mission. She didn’t see anything of interest until she reached a steep but small mountain. She would have to climb up, she knew.

As she climbed, her arm muscles strained to lift her whole body over high ledges. A half hour later, she was at the very top of the mountain . She looked down and spent a few long minutes scrutinizing the environs , after which she decided to clamber down.

Once she was back on solid ground, she quickened her pace a bit. This would burn more calories, thus helping her lose weight, and she would gain more energy in the long run. It was getting dark, she decided to eat a meagre dinner sitting with her back propped against a boulder.

She rested for about an hour, just long enough to regain some strength and catch a bit of shut-eye before taking a torch out of her bag and turning it on. The wilderness at night looked surreal, shadows accentuated the looks of trees, fallen trunks, rocks, and pretty much everything else around her.

As she walked, she realised taht in a situation like this, in a mission of this setting, they were better off working at night since it would provide them more cover, and they couldn’t be detected as easily.  She could hear a rushing sound nearby A stream! Her water bottles had been dry of water fir a couple hours and she was thirsty. Using her keen sense of eharing, she followed the sound until it intensified so much , that if she spoke she wouldn’t hear the words coming out of her mouth.

When she reached the stream, she knelt at the edge and drank deeply. The water was cool and refreshing on her throat. She took out her bottles, filled them, hopped over the stream onto the other side and continued on.

As the hours went by , she looked up at the stars and used them to guide her. She passed meadows, clearings, animal trails , you name it. Exhausted, she slipped, fell and leaned her back on a tree trunk to rest. She found herself dozing off, and when she awoke again, it was dawn. According to her calculations, she had slept three full hours. She got up and stretched, she felt refreshed but thirsty. She took out one of the canteens and drank deeply. The water was still quite cold which was good, she didn’t like to drink warm water because it didn’t feel hydrating.

She walked another two miles before she found herself out of the forest. She took her time looking around and eating a well-deserved snack at the same time. Around her were green fields, hills and beyond that...The gates that surrounded the Stormtrooper Corps!

Happy to see a bit of what she now called home, she started to jog down the hill, but did so too quickly. She slipped, fell and twisted her knee. Wincing , she got back up, shifted most of her weight onto her left leg and limped along. In a few hours, she will be enjoying a nice, warm meal with all the other Army members.

With that thought in mind, she quickened her hobbling pace and sure enough, two and a half hours later, she spotted a pitched tent right in front of the entrance gates to the Corps. In it , the instructor was alone. When he saw her approach him, she saw a genuine look of surprise on his face.

“That was quick , soldier! Very impressive. Now tell me, in those woods, what two areas would give your squad an advantage in battle?”

In detail, she described in detail the depression and her theory about travelling at night.

“Very good” the instructor said after hearing her explanations. “It took you fifteen hours to get from there to here, thus you pass.”

Beaming , she saluted , as did he , and after being dismissed, she walked to the mess hall to eat a big lunch.

Story 2: Battlefield Recon

Lucky read the message displayed on the computer screen. It told a little about the task for that Specialty course. According to what was displayed, she would be taught on how to recon on a battlefield. She knew she would do better with doing plans using the information the terrain and the enemy locations .

She went down to the gym and worked out a bit before going outside for a jog around the Complex. When she was ready to roll , she headed to the hangars where a pilot should be waiting for her to bring her to the are where the course would take place.

She got on board the ship , they lifted off in a matter of minutes and got to their destination in two hours time. They had to leave Tadath and go to Selonia, where she had gone on a mission not too long ago with a friend of hers. They had succeeded in the mission , which she was happy about since the Stormtrooper Corps was still standing.

When they landed, she looked outside at what remained of the scrapyard where she had been taken. It was a mess, scraps of metal was strewn everywhere, ships were heaped one on top of another in places, the damage here was incredible.  She knew that beyond here, there were some foothills that hid this area from the population on the other side even though this planet was considered deserted.

She saw a man standing alone in the middle of all the rubbish. She walked towards him, and saluted. He saluted in turn and handed her a paper. On it was a drawing of the place. The enemy troops were represented by a large X in a location not far from where she was standing. She looked up just as the man was starting to speak.

“In your hands you have the location of enemy troops. Using that data and the terrain, you have to make a battle plan. One of my men will be acting as one of your Troopers. Get started!"

With that, he left and she started thinking about what she would do.  According to the rudimentary schematics of the surrounding environs , they could launch a rocket right on their enemies. That was a logic tactic, but it was no fun. She started thinking about her other options. They could throw a few smoke grenades or flash bangs and then attack while the enemy troops were still recovering. Both ways were pretty good, send ing a rocket to do the job was safer though.

Having decided that they would get adventurous and not use the rocket launcher, they started moving towards the enemy encampment. She had put rubber bullets in her rifle and set her blaster to Stun so that she didn’t kill the instructor’s men.

Once she had checked all her gear , they started to move out towards the targeted area. Silently , they went up hills and used trees as cover in case some Troopers were out on scouting missions. Once she was sure they were clear to go ahead , she resumed walking and looked at her datapad. She had entered the coordinates and it was showing on the screen in a big, red dot.  They were nearing their destination. She suddenly felt a wave of warmth under her skin as the adrenaline started pumping. She started a quiet , but fast jog and she soon saw the mound where enemy troops were supposedly hiding.

Not wanting to take any chances, she took out a few smoke grenades and threw them in the pit. When they exploded in a greenish haze, she heard screams of pain as the smoke stun the men’s eyes.  Grinning, she ran up the small hill and jumped in the small badly made hideout Before her feet landed on firm ground she started shooting the rubber bullets and once she had a good look at the men she saw that their armour was peppered with them.

She heard footsteps coming from the other side of the mound, she raised her weapon , ready to fire when she saw the instructor holding his hands up.

“Good work , soldier”

She lowered her rifle and stared at him hard.

“You passed your exam. I’m glad you opted not to use the rocket launcher. You may leave.”

As she turned around and started walking away , the instructor spoke once more to her retreating back.

“Next time you come to a planet you previously visited for war reasons, I’d be a little more careful with my actions.”

Not knowing what he meant, she kept walking and was soon back at the ship. When they finally arrived, night had fallen and she headed to her room wit hthe intention of sleeping in late the next day.

OOC:
Passed, a little shorter than the others, but still well done.  I liked the coming back to an area somewhat familiar to you from a prior mission, added a dimension I haven't seen in specs for a while.

Story 1: Improvised Munitions

Finally! The day has come when Lucky could do her Qualifications to be a certified Combat Engineer. She would have to work hard to be able to pass these. They were a little harder than the other Courses. She looked down the list of courses and saw that the one she would be doing is Improvised Munitions. this should be fun. The one part she did not like about this was the lecture section. She hated lectures, she found them boring. With a sigh , she headed to the library to do some research on what was specified and hopefully find ideas for what kinds of munitions she could do.

Two floors above her room was a small, “secret’ library where you could do research to help you in your Specialties. It was said, secret because not many people knew about it. She looked in the section where most books were for electrical purposes. Once she found the one she was looking for, she went to a table, sat down with her feet propped on another chair and began reading. She could make an explosive, but modifying power packs was a completely different story.

There are not many ways to modify a power pack to provide you with extra ammunition, there is one basic way to get a power pack to work to your advantage in battle, and that is to “play” with the wiring in a way that is most beneficiary to you. Example: If you were to remove a wire from a socket and place it in another socket, that socket being the one providing you with the amount of charge your weapon will get, you can increase the amount of shots you can take with that weapon.

Power packs were really a simple piece of equipment. All they provide essentially is power where it is most needed. After finishing to write the notes down, she put the book back where it had come from and exited the room. She headed directly to lecture hall A4, she had received a message the previous day telling her that the lecture would take place there.

When she entered the room, there were only two other students there. She did not know them and did not intend on chatting with them since she was all business. As soon as she took her seat in one of the front rows, the instructor walked in.

“Hello everyone, today’s lecture is about improvising munitions...”

As he started talking, she tuned out his droning voice and thought about the hands-on part of the course. She hated lectures and she had just read everything he was talking about. Thankfully, he didn’t ask her any questions, and she snapped back to attention when he clapped his hands together.

“Alright, you may leave this room and proceed onto the second part of this Exam.”

As everyone filed out, she looked at the instructor and he winked at her. Why? She asked herself. She would soon find out. When she went outside, out to the field near the target practise ranges, she saw the two students who were in the lecture hall wi h her standing in front of power packs. An instructor who was waiting for them, placed her in the middle f the two, and then she knew why the previous instructor had winked at her. Her power pack was different than the two others. Hers was a little more advanced which would make things a little harder for her.

When the instructor nodded, she bent down and examined her power pack. There was a fairly large socket in the lower middle part , just below the cover. Normally, they were for hooking up electrical equipment , but since she had to modify it so that it served for ammunition purposes, she undid the cover and looked at the circuitry. If she had the barrel of a gun, she could make it a firearm of its own.

Completely ignoring what she had read in the library that morning, she undid two wires out of their sockets and plugged them into some spare ones which , normally would be for the plugged electrical equipment.  She worked a little more on the power pack, and when she deemed her work completed here, she was surprised when the instructor gave her exactly what she needed: A weapons’ barrel. She closed the cover, and hooked up the gun barrel. The instructor motioned for the two other CEs who were still working on their packs to stop working.  They did so without asking why and moved aside.

“Turn it on” he commanded to Lucky.

She did and moved back a split second later, expecting an explosion, but nothing seemed to happen. Seeing this, the instructor took out an instrument which he placed beside the power pack and took out a blaster pistol. He placed himself in front of the power pack a few yards away, pointed his blaster pistol at it and pulled the trigger, but to everyone’s astonishment, nothing happened.

He moved back to the power pack, switched it off and looked at the screen on his little device.

“Thought so” he muttered . “Gunnery Sergeant Luckystar , you have made a machine which sends microwave pulses that affect weaponry needing electrical charge. Only five other people have been able to do this, and for that , I'm giving you a passing grade , though you can move on to the last phase of the exam."

He motioned for her to walk off to a table that she could just make out. Without hesitation, she jogged off towards it and soon saw :A few plastic containers full of various ingredients, a stick for grinding , a plastic bowl and an empty container with a blasting cap beside it. She knew right away what she would make, it was one of the easiest explosives you could make.

she got some pottasium clorate and placed it on the table, using the stick, she ground it into a fine powder. When she was satisfied with its fineness, she got some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) and dumped half the container's worth into the empty bowl. She took the potassium clorate powder and placed it in the bowl with the vaseline.

She rolled up her sleeves and started mixing the two ingredients with her hands until it became a thick paste. By this time, the others were finished with their power packs and they too had started workign on their explosives.

Once the paste was thick enough for her taste, she put it into the emoty container and placed the blasting cap on top. she ahdn't noticed the instructor looking over her shoulder .

"Good wok, soldier' he spoke suddenly, startling her. Nodding, he dismissed her and she went off to her quarters for a well deserved nap. She knew she had passed, this was confirmed two days later. she received a message congratulating her upon assing the exam and it also told her she had passed with honors. Smiling, she got ready for her enxt exam which would be coming up shortly.

OOC:
Passed, thanks for doing the suggestion I had, makes it better.  Good luck on the next one.

Story 2: target Analysis

Lucky awoke early that day, when she looked at her clock she saw that it was only 0300 in the morning. She plopped back down on her pillows, closed her eyes and willed sleep to come. a half hour later, when she was even more awake but sill a little groggy, she made up her mind to get out of bed.

She stretched, slowly looked around her bedroom, letting her eyes adjust to the semi-darkness of her private quarters before moving off to the kitchen. She opened the fridge, got out a carton of orange juice and a few slices of bread. Opening a cupboard on the upper left of the fridge, she got out a glass and set it on the table. As she was pouring herself a glass of juice, her data pad which was in the next room emitted a loud beep. She set the glass down and moved to the small study where her data pad was lying on a low table. She took the device back to the kitchen and on her way to the table, turned the coffeemaker on. As she drank the remainder of her juice, she began reading the message that was displayed on the screen.

To: Platoon Sergeant Luckystar
From: STC Training and Examinations Center

You are to report to Sim Room 34A at 0900 hours today. This is an automated message from the Stormtrooepr Corps Training Center.

She had never gotten a message of that format before but there was always a first time for everything, right? She already knew what this Exam was about, she just didn’t know what to expect. At 0600 hours, she walked out of her apartment to do a little jogging. The cool air outside helped clear her head of any doubts she had about what was coming up.

An hour later, she went back to her apartment to change into some proper clothes before heading to the turbo lifts. Once she was on the floor where the Sim Rooms were located, she had no problem finding hers. There hadn’t really been anything to study for this Exam really, but she still took out her data pad and studied up on all the potential targets she could encounter.

At 0845, came into the room, looked around for her and motioned for her to follow him. She got up from her seat and did as instructed. They left the Sim Room only to enter another one a few doors down, the only differences between this room and the one she had been in before were that the other room simply had study desks and a large video screen, while this one had recliners with IV drips along one side of each chair, and the chairs were equipped with sensors that could monitor her vital signs.  At the very center of the circular room was a bank of computers.

This looks strangely familiar...

The technician was now standing alongside one of the recliners. Slowly, she approached the chair and lay down in a comfortable position.
“I promise this won’t hurt a bit” she heard the man whisper before calm and darkness came over her.

When she came to a few seconds later, she found herself in a similar environment to one she had been in a few months previously. A man was shouting orders at them all, but nothing he was saying seemed to have anything to do with her. He suddenly turned his head towards her and shouted "Move it soldier, you know what to do!"

She started jogging and scanned the surrounding area for all possible targets on her HUD. There was a communications tower , two guard towers and a few ground patrol units. The communications technicians were a threat, but so were the ground patrol.  The patrols had to be taken care of first. She direct the rest of the group to the locations of the patrols, a short distance away from the guard towers so as not to be seen. Their weapons were silenced, so that was one thing they didn't have to worry about.

She stayed a little behind as she had to take care of the comm techs. Once she heard a few soft pops into her comm, she started to move. She entered the nearest building which turned out to be an outhouse. Thankfully, there was a door at the very back which led outside again. once she had shut the door, she found herself staring at the tower she needed to reach. It was straight ahead, maybe a hundred feet away. Once she reached the door, she noticed that she needed a key code to open it. Screw that!

She took out a small amount of C-4 she had with her and blasted the lock away, a few wisps of smoke wafted upwards but she wasn't worried. She opened the door which swung inwards smoothly without making a sound, once inside, she shut the door and took  a long look around. The building was big and dark, the floor she was on seemed to be deserted. off to her left was a flight of stairs  that led up to a second floor. She went up with caution, when she scanned the upper floor, she found that it only had two rooms: a bathroom (the one outside was probably for the guards)  and the communications center itself. Seeing that the door leading to the communications center also used a keypad lock, she used the remainder of the C-4 she had, and a minute later, the door disintegrated and dust was floating in the air.

There were only two men inside, both looked surprised to see her. She shot the one nearest the radio first  before shooting the other man in turn. now that the men were eliminated, it was time to do a little sabotage work. She aimed her rifle at some servers lining the wall and fired a few shots, making sure the information on them was irretrievable. Next she took a  grenade , aimed at the console, pulled the pin and leaped out of the room just in time , sparks flew and there was a bit of smoke , but her job here was done.

"Good job Trooper, the tower guards are freaking out , which will give us an easy escape route. Come join us downstairs , our job here is done.'

grinning, she raced out of the building and they managed to get out of  the compound without any trouble.  she was starting to hear different sounds than was typical in this environment, her vision was also starting to blur.

I'm coming back to the present...The VE

When she opened her eyes , she saw the technician who was there earlier and beside him, an instructor.

'Good work, you passed" he told her. She tried to reply but no sound came out of her mouth, so she contented herself with nodding. When she was finally dismissed a few minutes later, she made her way to her quarters fr a well deserved nap.

Story 1: Hardware-Vehicle Electronics

Lucky walked out of her Condo to a bright, sunny morning and slowly walked towards the area of the base where the hangars were located. She needed to find hangar number 42, looking at the numbers on the large metal doors, she found what she had been looking for two long rows later.

The outside looked a little worn, the large hangar door was closed so she went to the side door and walked inside. It looked empty, she was used to seeing hangars with many ships inside depending on their size, this one only had one LAAT/i, it made her wonder if she was in the right place until she heard a deep voice behind her.

The light was quite weak and so, all she could make out was a tall, shadowy figure standing in the doorway. "Glad to see you made it on time" the voice said. Realising it was her instructor, she snapped to attention and delivered a quick, crisp salute.

"At ease."

Relaxing slightly, she saw that the instructor was carrying a heavy-looking metal case in one hand. Probably my tools The instructor set the case down next to the LAAT and pointed a finger at the cockpit window.

"There's a malfunctioning instrument in there, I want you to find it and fix it, you'll know when the repair is successful."

Moving off,the instructor left her alone so she could get to work. Entering the ship, she powered it up and looked at all the instruments lining up in the pilot's cabin. Wondering which instrument wouldn't be working properly or at all, she spotted it almost immediately. The display screen in the center of the console was dark. This ship wasn't one of the recent ones, so she suspected a wiring issue.

Stepping out of the craft, she grabbed the case and brought it aboard. Powering off the vehicle's engines, , she went behind the pilot's seat to an electrical panel, this particular panel was the main one on the ship. Luckily for her, the mass of wires were divided into sections by electrical tape, and she managed to find the small bunch that powered the small display screen.

"Ah-ah! I'm pretty sure I found our problem."

Among the mass of wires, she spotted one that wasn't well connected to its port and when she tested the others to see if any wires needed replacing, she found that a wire was faulty. She connected the good wire and went through the meticulous and painstaking process of replacing the other one before closing the panel door securely. Powering up the ship once more, she re-checked everything to make sure it was all in working order and was satisfied with her repair. On the display screen, she saw the onboard computer run diagnostic checks as it whined to life.

"Good work soldier, now head on home and you should have your results within a few days."

When she opened the door to leave the dark hangar, she took a minute to let her eyes adjust to the sunlight an noticed that the sun wasn't quite high yet. Judging from its position, it was about ten o'clock in the morning.

When she opened the door to the Condo, she found Alan sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee , watching the morning news.

"How did it go?" he asked, looking up at her.

"I think it went well, we'll find out if I passed it shortly though."

"Want some?" he asked, raising his cup.

"Sure."

Three days later, her datapad buzzed , anxious, she read the message: She had passed her first Qualification and could move on to the second one.

story 2: Sabotage Operations

Luckystar awoke at 0300 hours, she had to wake up early because her Qualification was a little ways away here. though she would still be on Tadath, it would be in a desert, where there would be no real danger of injuring or killing anyone.

Being careful as to not wake up Alan, she got dressed in her undersuit and went downstairs to done the Stromtrooper Corps issued FemTrooper armor. It felt awkward to wear it after  so long, but she would have to get used to it.

She walked outside towards a landing pad where a shuttle was already waiting. Without a word, she hopped on and gave the pilot a silent greeting before taking a seat.

A half hour later, she found herself on soft, yellow sand, the wind was blowing slightly , swirls of sand could be seen floating upwards and moving off somewhere else. Further up a dune, a man in armor was waiting. When she got closer, he saluted and motioned for her to follow him, he was wearing green colored armor. She had a feeling something was up.

The Trooper led her  to a man standing amidst some tanks and other vehicles. The tall man quickly looked her up and down, not bothering to introduce himself.

"Here's the drill Sarge, these guys..." he said motioning to the few green-clad men. "Are going to take on the role of Rebel troops. Your job will be to sabotage two of these vehicles, which they will be driving. Set your weapons to stun, as will my troops, that way everyone will be alive and well when this is over. Understood?"

Everyone nodded in agreement and all parted ways.  she went to  a spot which the commander had previously told her to wait at and did as instructed: Wait two minutes, then move out and locate the vehicles.

Two minutes later, she was jogging along quickly in the sand and soon spotted the vehicles, they were off to her left, in line with her. She found  a little trail that would bring her a little ahead of the lead tank and took it without hesitation.

While she was advancing, she took out a land mine and once she had arrived a few hundred yards in front of the tank, quickly dug a hole big enough and deep enough to accommodate the mine. By the time the mine was set and covered by the sand, the tank was right in front of her.  she moved behind a dune just in time before she heard the mine go of beneath the heavy tank tracks and heard a whizzing sound as a blaster bolt shot right past her helmet.

The tank slowed and finally grinded to a stop. She heard men's voices  as they got out to assess the damage.

"Sithspit, she's good. "

"Yeah well, she's only got to bust one more of our vehicles before she's done this Qualification, let's not make it easy on her anymore boys."

The one thing they didn't know was that she had jumped in the dune right next to them and was able to hear their every word. Smiling inside her helmet, she decided she would give them a break. It was lunchtime, so she took out the ration pack she had brought along with her, she had anticipated that this task would take longer than the last one and she seemed to be correct.

In the afternoon, she only showed herself a few times, but the last time she decided to come out of hiding was one time too many. One of the green-clad soldiers managed to hit her square in the left shoulder, luckily for her the armor was still in pretty good condition considering all the hardship it had had to endure and all she felt was a slight burning feeling on her shoulder.

When nightfall finally came around, she had no food and had run out of water a short while earlier.  The men made a small fire, sat around it chatting away seemingly not wondering where she was or what she was up to.

Staying in the shadows, she spotted one of their landspeeders and decided to strike. Making sure she still hadn't been noticed, she walked with cat-like stealthiness to the speeder and carefully unscrewed the few screws with her pocket knife, the panel was heavily armored which confirmed her suspicions. Electrical components were behind it, which what she wanted.

Setting the panel in the sand and setting the screws on it as to not lose them, she proceeded to use wire cutters to cut the ignition wire before putting the panel back in place and screwing it shut. When she inspected her work, she smiled to herself. There was no visible evidence of her being here and her tampering with the equipment. Noting the tracks she had made with her boots, she got on her stomach and used her arms to propel herself forwards, making sure to erase each and every step that was hers.

The task complete, she got back up and walked to camp, making sure to stay in the shadows again. Without stealth you were as good as dead. The spot she had chosen for her camp was a little ways away from the men, but not too far away. She only made a fire big enough so that all she had were glowing coals. realizing how dehydrated she was, she dug a very deep hole in the sand and retrieved the little water she could find at the depth she had dug.  Once she had finished drinking, she promptly fell asleep from exhaustion.

"Dammit!"

Lucky startled awake and listened intently, soon realizing that they had discovered the previous night's handiwork. they had realized the hard way that the speeder was disabled.

"Contact the Lieutenant, tell him that she succeeded." She heard a man say to another. Five minutes later, her comm crackled to life.

"Well done, Platoon Sergeant Luckystar. Meet up with the men, they'll bring you back to our rendezvous point. a pilot will be picking you up shortly to bring you back to the Corps."

Smiling, she walked out of her hiding spot and was met by the few very surprised men.

"Congratulations,  how'd you do it? we thought you had given up on us for a little while there." The tallest man of the group said.

"You need patience, stealth, your wits and you also have to stay focused and alert at all times. Your assumptions is what made you guys fail your goal of trying to make it harder on me" she said with a smile.

"Come along then, we'll give you a ride back."

"Would you guys happen to have anything to drink?" She asked them as they towards the one tank.

Smiling, the youngest of the group handed her a canteen that was a quarter full of water. She thanked him before drinking greedily all the way down to the very last drop.

Four hours later, she was back home and taking off the armor piece by piece in the middle of the living room. When Alan saw her reddened shoulder, he got some ointment out of one of the medicine cabinets and applied the cool cream to the burn.  After which, she showered, ate and got into bed.Boy, it's good to be home.

Story 3: Demolitions & Explosives Science

It was just before lunchtime and Lucky was making her way to her last Qualification Exam. She knew that this one could  get a little complicated, but she was up for the challenge. Preoccupied by her thoughts, she walked across a courtyard and was almost  hit in the head by a basketball. Smiling, she dribbled it a few times and made a nice pass to a young Trooper standing  a few feet away.

Getting back on her way, she used a key card to open to open  a gate to a closed off area that was seldom visited by other training Stormtroopers. it was a vast area where no grass grew, there was only hard, dusty ground, some mud and a bit of loose sand, in some places the mud and sand had mixed together and hardened so that they looked a little like rocks.

Near the gate door was a small shack, she opened the slightly rusted, creaky door and got out a bottle of ordinary garden fertilizer as well as a few more fertilizers and flammable liquids . Rummaging around a bit, she found  few small jars she could use  and put them into the kit she always brought with her.

Today was another day of which she had to make an explosive, she had already made one using some petroleum jelly, and had decided that she would try her hand at a fertilizer bomb. Though his type of explosive was uncommon, she had learned a long time ago that you had to make do with what you could find.

moving off to the center of the large field, she saw that the man who would be watching her progress was the very same Lieutenant she had had  a few days ago. she acknowledged his presence, he nodded in her direction, watching silently as she got to work.

Taking out the various fertilizers, she mixed a small amount of each into every single one of the small jars she had brought along. Opening her kit box,  she took out the few wires and electrical components she would need to properly fabricate the bomb.

Once the jars were filled, she capped them with their covers, drilled a small hole in the center of each cover , inserted a lead wire which she hen hooked up to a remotely activated detonator and buried the bombs in the sand before moving a few hundred meters away and setting up the rest of her equipment at that safe distance.

Five minutes later, everything was ready to go, keying her comm, she shouted the all to familiar words "Fire in the hole!" alerting the Lieutenant of the imminent detonation before depressing a large, red button on a wireless console.]

A split second later, a sound that sounded like a sonic boom was audible and dust particles left the ground into a grey flurry as the ground shook slightly. After a minute of dead silence, she heard the Lt. say two words "move on."

Carefully, she moved around the demo site to a small, abandoned house four kilometers away. She felt this task would be the most interesting of her exam, she had to blow the place to pieces.

Entering the building, she noted items that were still used on planets that only had ancient technologies. Throughout the small house, she found a digital clock, a radio and a few more electronics that she could use to wire an old type of explosive she had read about.

Disassembling the items she had collected, she set up the clock so that it became a timer, which she then hooked up to the radio, which was finally connected to a detonator with the rest of the wires she had taken.

She set the clock to go off in five minutes after she would depress the detonator button. Running outside, she took out a  land speeder which was parked a short distance away and brought it back with her, parking it beside the building. It was the ideal vehicle for this type of terrain, and she was glad she had it.

Walking back inside, she made sure everything was properly wired and connected before she set off the detonator and sprinted outside. Quickly glancing at her watch, she jumped on the speeder and sped off as far away as possible in the time remaining until she could barely see the house anymore This is going to be such a blowout!.

Glancing down at her watch, she noted that there were thirty seconds left, by the time she looked up at the building for a few seconds, six seconds remained on her watch. Five...Four...Three...Two...One...

With a  loud boom! a huge fireball erupted and engulfed the old house, the sight was mesmerizing. Time seemed to have stopped before the house fell to the ground in a sort of slow motion before it crashed down to the ground, creating a big, dark grey cloud of dust.

With a satisfied smile, she met up with the Lieutenant and was surprised by the look on his face. He looked satisfied, happy with what he had just witnessed.

"I've heard good things about you. This is the second time I've watched you at work and I'm impressed. Good work, now go home and grab some lunch. You deserve a break."

That day, she couldn't help but smile at herself, as she walked home.
